Everytime something happens in France in a comic, I realize how little researches comics writers do. And like, if they are this bad with my western country, how bad it is with third-world countries they talk about???

In Nightwing (2016), Raptor is from a circus that was near Paris during Mary Grayson's childhood, so more than 40 years ago at least.

In this flashback, they accuse the mayor of Paris of having given leprosy to the romani and of keeping away the meds they need. Already, with our healthcare's system, it's hardly possible, as they would be able to go to a hospital to get the help they need. Do they think "public healthcare" means the state has a direct control on medication, because that's not the case at all. The French gov control the money put into medication, how much is bought, but a mayor has no power over this. I just don't understand how something like this could happen. You can totally write a racist medical scandal in France, but makes it make sense with our system.

But also, Paris didn't have a mayor until 1977, so if it's before 1977, impossible. And, Paris' mayor from 1977 to 1995 is JACQUES CHIRAC, who was the PRESIDENT after. They wrote a story implying that a French President kept medications away from sick people, was discovered and was still elected President. And, yes, the French government is far from good and they have deeply harmed the romani, but like, maybe don't write shit like that. (Also, Chirac was really against the war of Iraq, and stood up against the US, which France is still paying the price for to this day. So I don't really like an USAmerican to criticize Chirac. Like, we can do it, others can do it, but not USAmericans, y'all have done enough) I'm pretty sure that wasn't the goal of the writers. No, what happen is that they didn't do researches about Paris' mayor and so, wrote that shit.

This may be inspired by the contaminated blood's scandal in the 80s-90s, which was worst in France, but no mayor was found guilty, it was doctors who knowingly contaminated patients with a deadly illness. And the French government was held accountable, even if they had no hand in it, as a matter of principle.

I understand it's a fiction, and they didn't literally wrote "Chirac did this", but it's kind of clumsy. (Especially because of everything I wrote earlier about Chirac's politics and how the US is still punishing France for being against killing civilians and destroying Iraq. France was doing the right thing, and the US worked so France would go back in line and treat Arabs like shit. Do not think western countries are free from the US' imperialism)

And in no way I'm saying that you cannot write France being awful, I know my gov's crimes (rn, they have deported homeless out of Paris for the Olympics, the President is refusing to acknowledge the left won the elections and to take a leftist prime minister so we have no prime minister since mid July and fuck democracy I guess, they support Israel's crimes against humanity, and are behaving like the colonizers that they are in New-Caledonia, sending the armies against the Kanaks that have not enough power on their own land), I'm just saying it should at least be believable enough to work. As per Tumblr recommendation, I started Kevin can fuck himself yesterday. I see people comment on how the sitcom part makes it look the way people see an abuser and how the abuse can be disguised. People think he is just a funny guy and the abuse goes unnoticed. I personally see it otherwise, although it's similar.

People know he is an asshole. He spends a whole episode being mean to the new neighbours just because. He meets a dangerous guy at a bar, in public. He is an alcoholic who throws weird parties with lots of other people at home. Patty's boyfriend tells her twice in the 3 or 4 conversations we see that he is an idiot. People know, and people avoid him.

And his bubble know, but they justify it and excuse it. And that's the sitcom. The sitcom is the theater of excuses Allison has (and then other characters too) about his behaviour.

"Can you believe it? We were in our anniversary, such a fun party, we were both super drunk and I don't know how it ended, that I was face down on the floor and the table was broken! Anniversa-rager we call it lol"

"He is such a clumsy guy that just as I was leaving the house, you won't believe that I don't know how he managed to cover me in chilli sauce! What a silly goose!"

"He is so helpless without me, he couldn't find the printer and he called me all day because he needed me to explain to him how to work it. And he worries too! He called the cops because he didn't know where I was, maybe I forgot to tell him".

The conversations with her coworker about husbands help drive this point. That's what mariage is. You find ways to justify it and to avoid certain fights and that's it. We got lucky.

But he did all these things on purpose. And the unreliable narrator of the sitcom makes the joke of it and makes the audience consider that maybe it isn't *that bad*. Allison needs to believe that's what it is, so it is. It really isn't that bad, she thinks, he is just like that.

And we can actually see the worrying things and the threatening parts from minute one. It's only a joke because we have been trained to dismiss it. To justify it and to move on. He isn't doing any heavy lifting here.

In episode 1, just the fact that he ends up standing on the table (when she doesn't want him to even put glasses on without protection) says a lot. But then the table breaks and he fixes it poorly and visibly. It would be bad enough just like this, but I personally think there is more to it. It's just that Allison doesn't want to speak about it or look at it so it is just the table, but it's the switch that turns on for her, the last drop. But she did end face down on her living room, on top of the broken table. It's a very elegant narrative tool where we don't see, but if we wanted to see, it's there.

And the more she notices, the more off-putting the sitcom is. It's still played as a joke, with the laugh track, but she is more aware now, so we can notice too.

We start the series with her turning point, but if the series started a year before that, it would only be happening in her house, as it is her life, her only frame of reference, and it would only be a sitcom because isn't he such a clumsy but caring guy?

no but, im taking that as a huge compliment!! im always so worried i come off as one of those .. angery gamerdudes who get mad about whatever they deem is "woke" and hate on gamedevs (which i really dont want to do, as much as i hate totk i dont wish any dev ill)

the 'hire fans' thing isnt realistic, as im sure we both know (like .. id have to be in some of the highest position there to achieve anything id want xD) and sometimes i dream of working on a zelda game, but then always have to think how much torture it would be to have to work on things you dont like, or watch as the director decides on things you know arent good, repeat the same old stereotypes etc etc

so then im more happy to not be there (although it is also very painful to watch them do it from the outside .......... i jsut imagine the pain be greater when you are working on it but cant decide on anything)

My version of a Fully Charged Aquaman :D

You all know that Aquaman is one of my favorite robot masters. And since he didn't appear in Fully Charged, I spontaneously decided to imagine what he could have looked like. I had a vague color palette, the word aquarium and some free time, so I made it happen.

This version of Aquaman used to work at a water treatment plant (maybe even together with Waveman), but quit his job because he was following his dream of becoming a famous comedian. That dream didn't really work out, since all of his jokes were sewage related and most people couldn't stand them, leading to Aquaman being banned from pretty much any stage in the entire city.

With his hopes and dreams crushed, he started trying to come up with other business ventures to keep him afloat, which eventually led him to build aquariums for a living. But not just boring pet shop aquariums, no no, ginormous, fancy, if slightly tacky aquariums for rich people. Like in that show that's very similar to "cake boss", but instead of giant, shitty cardboard cakes they build giant, shitty aquariums. That's the kind of stuff Aquaman sells to people.

Eventually, he gets really into it, even though at the back of his mind there will always be jokes about shitting ones self.

Now you may be asking "Why does he keep fish in his body? Isn't this animal cruelty?" and you may be right about that, IF they were living, breathing fish, but in actuality, all the fish Aquaman puts in his aquariums are robot fish. Even the ones he always carries around in his body. They're like his little companions. They have different personalities, always judge him when he makes stupid mistakes... Like true friends.

Now for all of you people hungry for robot yaoi... You all know that I'm really into shipping Aquaman with Woodman. And even in the Fully Charged continuity, I'm gonna make exactly that happen.

I feel like they have a similar dynamic to their classic counterparts, as in, Woodman is the only person to laugh at Aquamans stupid jokes, which makes Aquaman fall head over heels for him. Though in Fully Charged, Woodman is quite the troubled individual (paranoia and trust issues), so it's probably gonna take a little time for Aqua to get through to him.

Aquaman also used to be friends with Drillman Sr., after spending many days building and maintaining the giant aquarium in his (former) company building, before he sold it off to Skyraisers Inc., who got rid of the aquarium shortly after they bought it. I feel like he exclusively calls "our" Drillman "Junior" or something, to differentiate between him and his old friend.

Aaaaand I think that's all I wanted to tell you about him. I have a few more ideas for Fully Charged versions of classic robot masters, like Needleman, Swordman and Flashman. Maybe I'll draw them some time in the future. But if I don't manage to do that, I could tell you a little bit about one of them here: So Needleman, for example. I said on a post here a while back that I think Drillman probably got his affinity for music from his mother, or in this case, his (second) dad. I also said that whoever his second parent was is not in his life anymore. Not because they died or anything, but because they were sick of Drillman Seniors shit. I mean, understandable.

Some time ago I joked that Fully Charged Drillman inherited the looks of Classic Drillman and the crippling depression of Classic Needleman, lol. So I decided to turn that joke into my actual headcanon.

My Fully Charged version of Needleman was a punk musician, who got his name from the studded leather jacket he always wore and the needles on his head that were arranged in a way similar to a mohawk. I imagine he and Drillman Senior had a loooot of differences, which eventually led him to leave the country to kickstart his career as a musician shortly after they had Drillman (Junior). Man, the fact that they both share a name sucks so much when I'm trying to write about them. But yeah, that's even more fuel to Drillmans already giant pile of daddy issues.

I've rambled enough again. I promise to deliver you more robot yaoi by the end of the week. Probably. (It's Fireman and Waveman btw.)
