the ceiling was nice.

or maybe it was a couple minutes ago. hours ago? you had no clue how long you bad been up staring at it.

the door to your room opened but you dont even have the strength to look. with war at large you should be alert, especially with the attempt on your mothers life you should care. yet if someone has come to kill you you’ll let them because you cannot find it in yourself to care.

what you do notice however is the bed next to you sinking down and the warm heat, his smell. you turn your head, the first time youve moved in awhile you can feel the strain on your bones. a gentle hand runs on your cheek and you close your eyes at the warm. You can feel his breath on your skin, face to face though you cant bare to look at him, your eyes closed but you are more awake then ever.

“you were not at supper.”

you have barely left your bed today you certainly could not attend dinner.

“i am not hungry.”

“when was the last time you ate?”

you dont know. yesterday? a week ago? nothing mattered to you anymore.

your silence tells him everything he needs to know and he sighs, scooting closer to you and pulling you right against him. your head in his neck where you can feel his pulse. It gives you a sense of semblance a sense of life. He is alive.

“i miss him.” He knows exactly who youre talking about and his pulse races a shuttering breath leaves his lips. “i do too, so much.”

“its my fault.” you two say at the same time, pulling apart to look at each other. he is the first to speak, his guilt racing through his bones.

“how is this your fault? i was the one who had suggested we fly out the blame is on me alone-“

“i had swapped with him. i did not want to fly to see borros and i asked if i could take lady arryn. He agreed,” you find yourself struggling to speak as the tears flood into your eyes and your throat closes around you. “it would have been me. it should have been me.”

He grips your shoulders and looks you dead in the eyes, despite the gloss over them you can feel the fury. “never say such a thing. what would i do without you?” your eyes shut and shaky sobs escape your lips. His lips press against yours and your sobs cease. He pulls away and brushes your tears off your face.

“i suppose it does not matter whos fault it is. Because we have each other. and we will never lose each other. ever. when our mother ascends the throne we will take her place after her. and everyday we will live, for him.”

You nod. Hes right. You should not be wallowing in your grief it is not what he would have wanted. You allow him to lull you to sleep. It is the first time you’ve been able to sleep in days. You are at peace.

saw a lot of TheAc. criticals post from angry/disappointed fans going around my dashboard these past few days -? tumblr algorythm when i catch you - whose recurring (and sometimes only) argument against it, is that Osha is OOC, (mostly starting from ep5) and would never have acted/done this kind of stuff to Sol, betraying the jedi, and mainly that [ep5 to 6] ruined the show.

and okay. okay. if you didnt like the turn and direction the show's taken, i understand, i have my beefs with other series/movies too, so here i'm only trying to share my own perspective on Osha's development, that some may have considered too 'sudden' and 'ooc',

and i completely get why others might see it differently and not be comfortable with it. their feelings are just as valid and legitimate.

but, her being out of character is something i just cannot quite 'accept', if only for the sake of 'rightful' criticism the show may have toward the end:

Osha [and by extension the Acolyte too, but this post is abt Osha] is a brand new character we just been introduced to for the very first time, no old reference, no comics, nothing. and that's something important to note, because in the 4 episodes we had before the 'infamous' ep5, the most we got on Osha's characterization was very 'scarce' in reality, and not really 'set in stone' by the narrative

( contrary to Anakin skywalker, for example: notice the stark difference between how they portrayed him in the 3 prequels movies, and the Clone wars cartoon - 2008. Here, we had 3 long ass movies to get used to Anakin's character, his story, his relationship with Obi Wan and Padme, and how his fall played out, and it was credible. What wasn't though, (beside the fact the cartoon did some blatant damage to how people now view Anidala and Anakin - cough cough sorry cough cough it was my first otp -) was that they heard some..fans didnt like the not 'virile' enough Anakin from AotC/Rots and thought, well, lets take the worst of him in the movie, all his flaws, his dark emotions, and lets mix it to give the fans some kind of jock/popular-aligned/macho-light w/ anger issues/possessive of his girl/action stoic/terminator hero, and nevermind the characterization already etablished by the 3 movies.!)

so, back to Osha in the first 4 eps:

first, from her interaction with her meknek 'bud', Fillik. She's friendly enough - not that much, she didnt went out with her crew/ nor she wanted to share her doings with him (yeah, you can put that on her preferring her privacy/but also: her Jedi's teachings! it did take roots in her very being, her mind and consequently her everyday's life after!), but she knows how to level the mood, and doesnt hesitate to go toward something ..dangerous, if it need to be repared, even if this something is trauma related, like fire...(mmmh. im not saying it's forshadowing, but it was without doubt the first indication that she wasnt at peace with her past - and vice versa, that she's have to confront it)

second, from Yord. it's the first figure from her 'second' past life we/she see. She's a little playful, teasing him, not even a little wary when she sees him again after all this time, and most importantly she seems to trust him from the get go, thats why it hurts her that way! - and it matters, that it was him first, i think. Sol wouldnt have had the same - ah! - detachment, ironically as Yord. Yord, with whom she likely used to train with as a Padawan, and who didnt see her for 6 whole years after she left the Order. so for him to not trust immediately her words, her, it highlights from the start that the connection she had with the Jedi Order is no more, -at the very best holding on a veeery light thread- since she left it behind all these years ago; and even if in the 3 following episodes, Jecki, Sol, Yord (to some extent venestra) believe her, there's always this gap in the back of her/our mind, between her and the Order, that she cant seem to fill...

thirdly, from Sol. do i need to say more?? okay, i will only say that: blind trust. there's nothing this man could do to make Osha dislike him, or acting ill toward him, he held the truth, 'controlled - take this word with a grain of salt, when i say 'controlled', it holds no malicious intent from Sol, - the narrative, for years ! (and here im not saying he was a villain, i am not demonizing him nor am i saying he was an abusive piece of shit at ALL just so we're clear. ik my words may seem cold and harsh) but, indeed, Osha had no special reason to be mad at him, there was this parental/father figure she saw in him, replacing what she had lost on Brendok... ( but the savior hold as much weight to their relation me think.)

and lastly, from the twins/her coven's interactions, and how she (and we, watchers!) interpreted a lot of things 'wrong' because..povs !! To name just a few :

Osha is literally torturing the poor insect: Mae copying her and since Osha is the one calling her out on it, her sister is seen in a bad light by the viewer, since we identify a lot more with Osha, the 'light' twin

Osha getting mad at Mae for taking a sneekpeak at her drawingbook (she needs the space from her sister, who wont give it to her, who's becoming too much, too close, she needs to breathe alone, and it gives the impression that Osha is trapped, in some kind of 'prison')

Osha seeing her sister lighting it on fire just after locking her up, aaaand the fire expanding, fast (we dont see Mae panicking!!!) i'll admit, the show did a good fucking job at trolling us, into thinking Mae was some sort of... 'unhinged' and 'deranged' sister, who set the entire coven on fire 'just' to keep Osha : thats why i also cant get behind these 'ooc' accusations, because, as flawed as the writing might have gotten at some parts - and other things, but i wont dwelve on that here, the Acolyte was, from start to finish, headed in one direction, fully centered on Osha/Mae subversion arcs, and Osha ascension to the dark side: its all the emotional unbalance i mentioned above, in her interactions with Sol, Yord, her family, and how the serie choose to present us with Osha's version of the story first.

and finally, the fact everyone is throwing 'OOC' around to describe Osha's actions is, very mid 'critic' at best, and inherently contradicting the core message of the Acolyte, which is that everyone can do 'evil' and destructive acts in the name of what they may consider the greater good, whether they're justified or not (Sol/Mae parallels go hard in that sense), and inversely the most 'evil' character can be all in all, very honest -Qimir, even back in Khofar didnt really lie did he? - and vulnerable in his presentation: the revealing of his intention toward Osha etc etc..)

aaand im done i dont know if what i wrote made sense (i dont want to cringe so im not rereading this but know that if there're any typos or weird turn of phrase then its normal :)

After this latest ep, it made me think back to the bts where Emily talked about wanting to retire Fig. I still dont really understand this at all. I really respect these creatives but it just doesnt make sense to me. I love Emily, this is just me rambling about something I truly dont get.

1) Fig says over and over that she cares more about her friends than anything. How would she feel if she takes off and they all die in a battle like the last stand because she wasnt there. Or if even one of them permanently dies. Maybe Sandra Lynn or Gorthalax or Gilear.

And on the less fatal end- what if her friends failed their junior year because she wasnt there. All of Rizs hopes for the future gone. This isnt a normal high school- this school is all about setting up an adventuring party for the rest of your life. Fig knows that her mothers life was completely changed by a decision she made at 17. Sandra Lynn left her adventuring party, got kicked out of another, and never found one again. Brennan said Aguefort Adventurers dont usually end up as rangers (i think he literally said thats usually a mumple type thing). We hear over and over that there is a lasting upset in Sandra Lynn because of those times.

2) i believe she said something about giving Fig her happy ending. She is 17!!! And she just got her first girlfriend. And that's it?! Now shes happy and her stories over? Nothing about the complex relationships she has with all her parents or with her connection to hell. Nothing about the friends she loves. Nothing about her complex relationship with herself and feeling lost and not good enough unless shes pretending to be someone else. Could just be my amatonormative-hating self but I dont see how thats a happy ending for Fig.

3) on a show level, I cant see it working to just have a new character and have Fig be offscreen. FH is more about the party and their freindship dynamic than any other season. In the seasons where pcs have been switched out, it makes sense. Unsleeping city doesnt have that same tight group dynamic because they are all adults with their own lives. Crown of Candies Pc changes were campaign changing purposefully.

Fantasy High is all about this dynamic with the Bad Kids and if one of them just left, I cant see the others not being affected by that. Instead of a fun Junior Year, we'd get tons of moments of them missing Fig. And with a new PC we'd be spending lots of time creating new dynamics vs exploring the rich ones we already have. I dont see the bad kids just adopting a new member, that would feel forced to me. I think theyd really be losing something with not having the full party that weve had from the beginning.

I know that the cast are incredible and Im sure they would've found ways to make all of this work. But personally Ill be very disappointed if we get a Senior Year and it doesnt have all of the original PCs. I think without Fig, it would just feel emptier. Shes really the heart of all of this.

Okay so i finished NAtLA

Im gonna be talking about what i think could have been done better, my few nit picks where i was ready to throw my tv out the window, the stuff that made me go what the hell, and the 2 things that i felt like they did really well/better than og, and shit that had me laughing

And before i go any further if i were to sum up everything wrong with this the main and biggest issue with this remake is that there is a common theme of them making shit up that a, completely disregards the og world building. B, give us no reason for the deviance. And c, just putting in cheap plot devices or shit that doesnt do anything for the story.

With that aside for what it was i liked it. it was okay, it definitely met my expectation of being average and mediocre.

Could have been better

Episode run time/plot set up had a choppy flow. So all the episodes average out to about 50 minutes and we got 8 episodes this season, they obviously would have to merge or cut episodes no matter what. The flow was especially weird with ep 3&4 the ones scened in omashu, where they combined like 3 episodes from the original and just-was not put together well and they definitely could have paced the story better. I honestly think-in my personal opinion-it would have been better if they had split the 7 hours down to 20-25 minutes each episode. that would have given us about 17 episode rather than the 8 40-50 minutes that each episode was, i think it would have helped their pacing

Why the comit celebration with the air nomads? Like why are they celebrating that comit? Is it culturally significant to them, if anything it seems like something only the firenation would celebrate, what significance does the comit that strengthens firebenders that only omes by once every 100 years have to the airbender? In the og it was multiple sycronized attacks on each temple if im recalling corectly, but yeah comit festivle at the air nation just was a tad bit weird for me

For yue im just mad the didnt save their cgi budget to give us floaty ghost yue, we were deprived of spirit yue and i detest that, other than that i apreciate she had the option to not go through with the aranged marriage, they would have written her as a character better, it just felt, a lot more surface level than in the og.

Why'd they take aangs shirt off in the first ep? I know they did it to show us his sick tattoos but, bro is seriously in the southern water tribe please give him his shit back while he's passed the hell out

I have...opinions about them physically showing us the genocide of the airbenders because on one had, we didnt see that in the og and its and intresting exploration of what we knew but hadn't seen, on the other hand, genocide... idk if it was necessarily an okay thing to portray the way that they did, it left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth (but thats kinda the point of it(genocide is supposed to make you feel uncomfortable it should feel wrong)) but yeah it was definitely a decision that they made.

My only complaint about Suki is just the fact that they made her shy??? Like that felt so unnatural not having her talk to sokka for a whole 20 ass minutes (closer to five but it felt like 20) and not to mention the scene where shes teaching sokka i-i dont have words it was just horrible. it was so ooc for suki and i cant even think of a reason why they would do it, like, the audience doesnt gain anything from her not talking besides cringe 10,000 and it doesnt do anything for the plot whatsoever or narrative, someone was just like, "what if she didn't talk lol because outsiders are in her village and that water tribe guy is cute". The reason that sokka and suki worked was because she was just as if not more head strong than him, and she's really not the kind of person to have a crush at first sight. Just felt ick. Give me season one misogynistic, sexist sokka, let him have caracter development of getting his ass beat and his standards thrown back at him torn to shreds

The only being able to talk to the previous Avatars via avatar statues makes no fucking sense and i have no clue what the hell possessed them to make them think it was a good idea to do that. First off how in the hell would they have figured it out (people in atla world)? There would have been a point at the beginning of the avatar cycle where mfs were not making statues of them, and then they did do it and some avatar was just like lemme meditate under this previous avatar and see what happens-it just agh. Second of all at some point avatar statues are going to be destroyed whether by time or intentionally at some point there will be avatars that will just never be reachable or wholly forgoten. It also just feels like a cheap plot device to get them to go places and we dont really gain anything from it.

Okay the spirit episode with hei bai, was just... a mess. And im chunking this all together, number one the fucking, ahhdhdhg, it makes me mad just thinking about it, the fact that katara and sokka got "pulled into" the spirit world with and was just bad. Bad storytelling. Bad writing. And they fucking knew it, and they knew that we would know that they were pulling shit out of their ass with it, they acknowledged that in the fucking show, they had sokka and katara say "hey how did we get in here with you" and aang just shrugs and says "idk" and it actually has me griping at my scalp and pulling my fucking hair out. that was first draft kinda stuff and the fact that it made it into the final fucking product has me raising my fucking fists to fight whoever made that decision. Numero dos why was yue there (yes i know that they gave an explanation but still why, it served no purpose it did nothing) number 3 sokka should not have a face aang should not have a face, koh the face stealer. he steals faces, specifically when people show emotion. Thats what makes him scary, not the memory bullshit whatever that was . It was just weak.

Kataras whole bending arc, nothing more needs to be said, actually basically her whole character in this.

Okay i really liked this

I really liked how they casted Azula. Spesifically that she looks her age, she looks young, because she is, even though shes definitely trying to be/apear older. And i like that they made her also just as much a victim of ozai's abuse as zuko(dont get me wrong love og but this is a good expansion of the narative for an adaptation) not to mention durring zukos agni kai shes not smiling, she looks conflicted, glad its not her, but thats her brother. and shes still is a genius in bending and her personality has been moulded to not be a target for ozai and vying for his aproval its obvious that she aware that ozai's wrath could also be turned onto her and had learned from zukos mistakes to not get the brunt of it. Just a good exploration of azula over all

Appa looks so cute! They did my boy good and Momo! Adorable truely 10/10 except the part where they nearly fucking killed him, that was unnecessary and he shoud have a part of the moon or ocean spirit in him like yue canonically speaking but ig.

im still in my post-show-comedown period and cant sleep so time for a story :3

so, im in kaiju queers, we're a queercore punk band in denton, tx. i joined back in february of this year, taking the place of the former drummer

for this band, i bought a new-to-me drum set, a 2017 yamaha stage custom kit in cranberry red, and i LOVE them omg look at my pwetty dwumbz

its a 5 piece kit (pieces in drummer speak means drums, excludes cymbals/other pieces of kit), comprising a 20 inch kick, 14 inch snare, 10 and 12 inch rack toms, and a 14 inch floor tom. ive also carried over the 16 inch floor tom from my circa-2002 childhood pearl export kit for more boom

i also have a very odd cymbal configuration. from left to right, i have a set of 13 inch zildjian planet z hi-hats (cheap, brass beginner cymbals i got for $50 used), my childhood 18 inch sabian b8 crash/ride, a secondary hi-hat without a pedal using my childhood 14 inch sabian b8 hats, and a 20 inch b8 ride with a 12 inch b8pro splash mounted upside down on top of the ride

ANYWAY

in between practices/shows/etc my drums live in our frontwoman dana's house for convenience, we rehearse there and operate out of there on gig days, so while it makes practicing with the band far easier, it also means i dont have immediate access to my gear

however

it also means that my drums get used when im not around, like when dana jams with the rest of the band or with other musician friends

and on one such recent occasion, the former kaiju queers drummer (whos actually on the EP) was over jamming, using his kit, but when he packed up to leave, he took some of my kit with him

and then he put it in a friend's rehearsal space

so last week, i roll in for practice, and my hi-hat stand (with pedal) is gone, a cymbal stand is gone, my snare stand is gone, and the lil doohickey that goes into the kick drum and holds the rack tom and second hi-hat was gone too

but fuck it we ball, the show must go on, etc

so i had to improvise and make my already unconventional kit (there's a reason for all of it, promise!) even weirder

i used the one cymbal stand for the ride and splash like normal, and just went without a pedal hat (which was not pleasant), using the auxiliary contraption i built plugged directly into the kick

for toms, i used the smaller floor tom as a rack tom at times and as a double floor tom at others depending on the song

observe, shenanigans

this completely broke all my muscle memory for playing fills and other accent parts and i had to constantly adjust things and it never felt comfortable, but i managed

and at times it ended up making me more creative with improvising

oh and the kick kept sliding around on the carpet cuz the little rubber feetsies on the legs got pushed too far up and exposed the spikes which only grip by chewing into the floor

now for some band operational behind-the-scenes shit

when multiple bands are playing a show together, its rather common for one band's drummer to supply the core kit (kick, toms, sometimes a snare, stands/hardware) with each drummer swapping in their own cymbals and snare if desired

since i play such a weird and bigger than average kit (most drummers ive played with only use a 4 piece kit (one rack tom, one floor tom) with a handful using a second rack tom for a 5 piece)

i usually supply the drums for the show (called backlining)

but for last friday's show, i didnt have a full kit to bring, i had to use a backup snare stand (which is literally shaking itself apart) just to get thru rehearsal

so i had to play the backline drums from another band

and of course, that drummer uses a 4 piece kit, so i was having to adjust on the fly, on stage, during the show

i made it thru by bringing my own snare and larger floor tom along with the auxiliary hi-hat contraption, which made it not as bad as it could have been, but damn it was weird. that guy likes to keep his shit tuned LOW with almost like, flabby-loose heads on the toms, whereas i keep mine tuned up a bit higher, so my 16 inch floor tom (my lowest tuned not-a-kick drum) was dramatically higher pitch than his floor tom

and my muscle memory still was off, going for drums that werent there constantly

i got thru the show, but definitely wasnt my best work

for this past tuesdays practice, i still had to go without my normal set up, as the previous drummer still hadnt been back with my gear, so once again, had to improvise, using the smaller floor tom fully extended as a makeshift rack tom, and it went a little better

but i was so fuckin happy to see him roll up after practice that night with a trunk full of hardware

and for the show i just played a few hours ago, i was able to roll up and backline with my full 6 piece kit assembled how i like it :3

Anyway, we left off at the symbolism of hands- or more who uses what hand and how it, right now, seems like KMC is ambidextrous.

I gathered some information (during class break, so it might be rushed but i'll read over it again as soon as I got enough time) about the "ambidextrous angel" i mentioned.

All highlighted texts are important to the statement I made earlier.

The paper I'm citating is "The Ambidextrous Angel (Daniel 12:7 and Deuteronomy 32:40): Inner-Biblical Exegesis and Textual Criticism in Counterpoint)" by Eugene P. McGarry (the whole of Deuteronomy 32 is pretty interesting and fitting to the whole topic of the drama- I will come back to this at the end of the post, where I dissect the different things I find the most interesting and important)

Eugene starts his paper with this paragraph where he introduces the angel

He later continues by expanding on what the angel does as soon as they set feet on earth. Tho, here its mentioned the angel only uses one hand to swear an oath, yet in the following paragraphs highlighted it shows it varies and its sometimes rather ambiguous and mysterious if one hand is used or two. Something nobody know of its true or not. There also is a man in "linen clothes" mentioned.

The author elaborates on what the man (presumable also the angel) taunts his people

nocturne review, ramblings

obvs spoilers for the show down below.

so, i'm gonna be real with y'all; i dont think i would have watched this if not for one of my mutuals spilling the beans about alucard making an appearance 💀 s4 was ok and a fine conclusion to the og castlevania that started this animated franchise, but i dont think i will ever get over the absolute fumble and frankly, insulting way they wrapped up s3. even s4 had its cringe moments, like lenore getting a peaceful sendoff and carmilla getting to kill herself. but, i digress. i was going into nocturne with an already negative mindset and that may have made me more critical of the show. can u blame me though? lmao

i had seen a few clips and screenshots on twitter when they dropped the first 3 eps early and... they only helped solidify my decision to remain skeptical of the staff's writing capabilities. shit was already a little hazy and wishy-washy with their portrayal of isaac in s2 and how they treated hector thruought the show (not to mention the two asian-coded characters in s3). let's just say, the netflix castlevania team doesnt have the greatest track record when it comes to writing poc characters. so, when i saw screengrabs just outright stating that this show was going to deal with historically accurate racism? hm.

obvs as a white woman, i can only go so far on this criticism of the writing, but i dont really understand why they needed to include this? the comparisons and allegory of freedom from indentured servitude to the french revolution, was very weak and bare bones at best. you can keep the motif of the church existing on exploitation and blood of the people-- a whole cross section of the world was involved in the crusades, which is the priests & his entourages whole deal--but, why couldnt annette just be a witch? why did this "historical accuracy" need to get involved with the time period? bcuz the french revolution was name dropped? your main villain is a hungarian countess from the 16th century that made a pact with an EGYPTIAN goddess to become all powerful. like.

and also..... why the FUCK are vampires getting involved with the intercontinental slave trade bro??? 😭 theyre immortal beings that have seen the rise and fall of empires and can do whatever tf they want and go wherever tf they want and they choose to..... own a plantation? give af abut the economy? with selling goods??? okkkkk. also, this line of dialogue is insane to me:

you cant have a central theme of your story be standing up against the oppressors and then make said oppressors fantastical monsters. what kills me is that they've delved into the monstrosity of humanity in s1 and s2, and yet, when you bring in one of the most monstrous things humanity has ever done in its history for the sake of historical accuracy, you turn the very perpetrators into something mythical, and evil that the common folk had no chance of ever defeating even if they tried. its just overall, very messy and they certainly were not the creative team to try and tackle something like this.

speaking of, the writing, again, it definitely left something to be desired. there are moments that are good, don't get me wrong. episode 6 is a particular favorite of mine, shining through with its wonderful character moments b/w annette's soul searching with her ancestors, richter and juste's heart to heart, and olrox's confessions to mizrak. tera's sacrifice to ensure maria's safety is also really well done, as well as maria's final confrontation with her father in the church. however, these were fewer and farther between than i would have liked. a lot of the scenes that played out just fine, were ultimately sullied by this series' incessant need to insert swearing into every other sentence. its something that bothered me nearing the end of s4 especially, and i've just grown tired of it. it honestly takes me out of the scene to constantly hear fuck thrown out every 2 seconds for literally... no reason. i promise y'all can write meaningful and impactful dialogue without having your characters swear lmao

the writing itself is what unfortunately makes the first half of the show kind of drag a bit. the story doesn't really know what it wants to do. none of these new characters are really given time to breathe and be really fleshed out, bcuz every time things settle down and we're given the chance to learn more about their motivations, its like they're almost scared they'll lose your attention and any down time is immediately followed up with an intense action sequence. which, dont get me wrong, if theres one thing they dont disappoint with--its the action. but, i dont think that was ever up for debate to begin with. however, i believe that the characters really suffer bcuz of this. if you've never played the games, which, i believe most people tuning in to watch these series never have, you would have no idea who maria or richter are, and, i really don't think they were given enough time to be fleshed out. half the time, richter's dialogue just ends up being naive, walmart trevor belmont sarcastic one-liners and poor maria ping-pongs b/w the blandest, generic, wonderbread toutings of 'revolution' or calling richter a dick, wanker, or anything in b/w. episode 6, one of the better episodes as mentioned previously, is where we really get to see some actual growth around richter especially. there were moments where his trauma could have been further explored earlier, but they kind of got shoved to the wayside in favor of dragging out the interworking bw all the villains. which.....

if i'm gonna talk about the villains. my initial thoughts were that nocturne was going to be a one-and-done, standalone series with its own self contained story that would be wrapped up in these 8 episodes. i was wrong. and i really dont know how they're going to keep this story going. erzsebet is already a very weak and uninteresting and, honestly, confusing ? villain? for more than half of the series, she's talked about as the mysterious and all powerful Messiah and theyre gathering all these sacrifices for her to bring her back and create an army of night creatures. why is she considered powerful? bcause she made a pact with Sekhmet, an egyptian goddess. why did she do this? who knows! why does she have such a devoted cult of loyal followers when she hasnt done anything but kill a lot of people? again, who knows. why did maria's father think that a VAMPIRE would keep him in cahoots during this whole plan and not immediately fuck him over once she got what she wanted...? who fucking knows. olrox is the most interesting of the villains but even he isnt fully explored. the motivations are just not really explained very well and the buildup to erzsebet's arrival was so sudden that i literally thought i missed an entire episode. one minute, shes hiding in the shadows and the next ? waltzing in on a golden chariot and being heralded as the people's savior?? so damn messy and honestly? i really could not have cared less about her. which is insane to say, bcuz shes literally based off of a real countess who's case and life were a special interest of mine. i just... why an EGYPTIAN goddess?? shes from HUNGARY. were there no goddesses in europe to pull from she could have made a pact with? idk man it just makes no damn sense.

i am definitely more than a little peeved that this wasn't even the complete story, bcuz they did such a poor job establishing erzsebet as a villain, that i really dont give af what crazy shit they come up with to extend the story. you show her being a big badass in the very last episode. ok, you as an audience member, are immediately shown why dracula is so feared within the first 10 minutes of the first episode. and all of that wasnt even HIM fighting!!! the worst thing i've seen miss countess bathory do over here is summon a crazy orb and turn into a furry. like, where is the story going to go from here? they fight tera? save edouard and have a night creature alliance? make maria or alucard (yes, i'll get to him) summon the portal again? which btw... machine from HELL? im not even gonna touch that can of worms. somehow bring olrox back to.....? help kill bathory? idfk

and man...... i was hoping against hope that when i found out alucard was going to make an appearance, that it was just going to be some neat little cameo at the v end of the series after the main story had concluded. a little nod, a little treat to the audience that the next series would be encompassing the events of symphony of the night. maybe we'd even get a depiction of maria and richter when theyre older, i dont know, anything but throwing him in there as an overpowered hail mary to save the day. we couldnt just let these new characters figure it out and triumph in their own way? we had to drag him into this, now? i cant even tell you how disappointed i was when i saw that sword pierce drolta. ME! the resident alucard fan since i was like mf elementary school!!! ugh.

i think this is it for me and netflix castlevania lmao im a grumpy old man and miss when it was mainly fun easter eggs to the games, like how they brought in juste or how olrox turns into a big green monster and has an attack that sends flying skulls your way, or the REMIX of RICHTER'S THEME!!! but its just gotten so silly and the writing hasnt gotten any better..... from now on, im going to simply stick to the games that made me fall in love with this series in the first place & let this be the last time i ever feel the need to bitch about new 'netflixvania' content.

I wish there could be a redemption arc but the person I wanted to help BM get better was killed off, I feel like they didn’t know where to go with KC so they just said you know what let’s get rid of it, but I truly feel they had a lot of things that could happen with KC.

3rd Person Wednesday

“I’m going to stay with Yoko for a while, I can’t be here.” and with that she was gone. Enid had dragged her suitcase out of the door and out of Wednesday’s reach.

Wednesday looked back at the door after a while, realising she wasn’t going to come back. All she could think was “Fuck.” She was so incredibly angry, so angry that her eyes became glassy and her heart began to year at her chest.

So increasing angry that her hands began to shake.

So undeniably angry, in fact, that she started to feel her whole body shaking from the thumps of her heart. How she knew this? Her hair was shaking, everything was moving.

She tried to breathe but struggled for a second. She gasped a bit for air, finally getting it. She began to make her way to the window, trying to get anything that could stabilise her and keep her grounded.

This isn’t real, is it? It’s all a dream, she’s just having a dream, a horrible, horrible dream. Enid would never just leave like that, that isn’t Enid. Enid loves her too, Enid would never leave, somethings making her leave, somethings distracting her from Wednesday. She needs her, she needs her constant presence, no matter how annoying she can be, she’s grown used to it, they both cant be without the other, it’s been proven time and time again. They need eachother.

Sooner or later, Enid will come running back like nothing happened and start talking about some boy problem. Or maybe Yoko will force them to talk to each other again. Either way, they both can be right, Enid can go off for a couple days for some space, and Wednesday doesn’t have to apologise for what she hasn’t done.

And with that comforting thought, Wednesday drifted off to a dreamless sleep.

2 days later.

Wednesday wasn’t about to sacrifice her pride for some stupid fight, Enid was bound to come back. It’s just taken a bit longer. It’s not like they’ve even fought before, so theres no way she’s about to stop being friends with Wednesday over one childish disagreement.

Well

That’s what Wednesday thought.

Enid passes in the hallway, not a single thought in her head, laughing until she had no breath left to give and her ribs starts hurting.

But that isn’t right? If she’s so happy, why wouldn’t she be back with Wednesday? Why wouldn’t she be waiting in the dorm, waiting to give some clearly fake excuse why she’s back and why she wants to talk again? Was she staying at Yoko’s dorm forever? That isn’t fair. That isn’t where she is supposed to stay, she’s supposed to stay in Ophelia hall, she’s supposed to stay in that room, she’s supposed to stay in their room.

She wasn’t supposed to be happy, she wasn’t supposed to laugh, she wasn’t supposed to be happy without Wednesday, she is her source of happiness so why wasn’t she hers? None of this is fair.

So she did something about it.

She made her way down to Principle Weems office as if a rainbow hovered above her head for all to see.

The door opens in an aggressive manner, Weems swivels around in slight shock but her shoulders relax when she sees it’s just Wednesday. “Please, don’t slam-“

“Enid.”

“What? Take a seat, Wednesday..” Weems tilts her head slightly, squinting at her.

She didn’t move an inch and didn’t Miss a beat.“Enid, she’s never in our dorm, it’s been 2 days.”

“She requested to be moved for the time being, there’s nothing I can do, I’m afraid..” Her eyes softened a bit, sympathising with Wednesday. “You Look tried, Are you okay?”

“Yes, now invalidate the request and make her move back in, she is needed for the investigation.” Her eyes looked like a sailor’s storm, the bags proudly claiming the title of her most prominent facial feature.

“Again, there’s nothing I can do unless she, personally, requests to be placed back. We cannot move students back in when having a disagreement with their roommate for safety reasons.” Weems took a more professional approach with Wednesday when she was like this, sleepless and motivated to get something she just can’t have.

“Ms W-“

“Wednesday.” She started to sound more firm in her decision while still trying to understand her perspective. “If you can get Enid to personally request to go back, then I’ll do it with no problem. However, I cannot-“

Wednesday huffed angrily and slammed the door behind her. If she isn’t getting what she wants then why would she want to stay? She knows the answer so why wait that extra, valuable time she could be spending with Enid there?

She considered swallowing her pride but decided against it, thinking of other solutions, any solution that could keep Enid close but keep her dignity.

An ear screeching bell ring throughout the school, making her jump slightly as her thoughts were disturbed.

She would have to devise a plan later, lunch is over.

But thAT’S NOT THE TOPIC. IM GONNA BE TALKING ABOUT ELENA OF AVALOR. THE PEAK FICTION SISTER SERIES that hasn’t left my fuckin mind since we watched it alongside our Sofia run. Elena is what you get after you graduate from Sofia. We finished it weeks ago yet we still go back and rewatch eps.

HELLO MY QUEeN. I have been actively holding back talking about it (THAT and i haven’t had the time in the first place). And the weird thing is, people are aware of Elena’s existence — but have also never actually watched her series? Or at least I never see anyone mention anything beyond surface level. WHICH IS NOT FAIR that shit bangs I gotta tell somebody!! So why not tell my platform of people who would not look at this!! 💀 but this is MY nasty blog on YOUR dash

So!! Here’s an informal 10 paragraph long (mostly spoiler-free) premise synopsis copy and pasted from when I bombarded someone on discord about it [I SAY MOSTLY BECAUSE ONE CHARACTER IS A WALKING SPOILER I cant avoid this, thank god it’s one of the first things learned]

… But I gotta begin with Sofia the First 🤡— I PROMISE IT’S RELEVANT. Gotta talk HER premise first-

Sofia is some regular villager whose mom marries the King of her country Enchancia. She was a girl in the village doin’ alright, but then became a princess overnight. Her new stepfather gives her the Amulet of Avalor, an artifact that was passed down for decades in his family. THE TWIST? It sEcRetly has magic!! (Note: Sofia is the only person who knows it’s magical.) The magic gives her the power to talk to animals, and basically whatever the plot dictates. But the amulet is also cursed.

After a series of unimportant events irrelevant to Elena, and one single important one— Sofia finds a magic book that has a wizard called Alacazar in it, and he tells her that a princess has been trapped inside her Amulet for 41 years, and essentially has been trying to escape. Sofia is apparently the only person who can help her. This leads her and her family to going to Avalor and figure this shit out.

And she does.

This is where Sofia’s relevance more or less ends until further notice.

[41 YEARS AGO]

Once upon a time there was a kingdom named Avalor, and there was a princess named Elena. She lived with her parents the king and queen, little sister Isabel, Abuela, Abuelo and her cousin Esteban.

On her 15th birthday, her mom the Queen gave her the Amulet of Avalor as a gift.

Then a nondescript amount of time later, an evil sorceress named Shuriki invaded Avalor and murders her parents in front of her, and starts taking over. Elena tried to personally stop her, only for Shuruki to try killing her too. Shuriki’s assassination attempt fails because Elena’s magic amulet protected her by pulling her inside of it. Elena is fully sentient in her stupor.

After witnessing that happen, the then Royal wizard Alacazar takes action and seals her grandparents and Isabel a magic painting to keep them alive.

The royal family is officially deposed and Shuriki is becomes dictator of Avalor for the next 41 years. Meanwhile the only surviving family member, Esteban, works in servitude for her. (IMPORTANT GUY. REMEMBER HIM)

Meanwhile, Alacazar travels the world with the Amulet of Avalar to find someone who can free Elena (because the amulets power to too strong and godlike). He eventually gets too old to go on, and seals himself away in a magic book to keep himself alive, while the Amulet itself somehow ends up exactly where it needs to. (The specifics of how it ended up with Sofia’s stepfather’s family are unclear, but it becomes an heirloom of sorts)

And we circle back to Sofia, who finds out the Amulet has Elena in it thanks to Alacazar’s spirit telling her in the first place after she finds his book.

Sofia goes to Avalor, blah blah, she frees Elena, they depose of the dictator, free her family, and alls well that ends well.

Elena lets Sofia keep the amulet because she’s seen enough of that fucking thing.

The end

OR IS IT??? All of this (sans Sofia) is recapped in the first episode of Elena. The actual pilot episode that goes into all that junk is in Season 3 of Sofia the First as a 3-episode long special. YA DON’T REALLY NEED context on Sofia to see that, BUT!! It’s nice anyway. (Tho episode 0, imo, absolutely should be seen first for prime context. Also the beta-designs and mild jank will be less jarring)

One last teeny tiny thing. Too important but it’s part of the premise literally dropped in the pilot.

Esteban is the reason why Shuriki invaded Avalor in the first place. And he is indirectly responsible for the deaths of his aunt and uncle.

When he learns that Elena and the rest of the family are alive and Shuriki gets defeated, however, he does not bring this up. Claiming he had no choice but to serve her in order to survive. This is knowledge the audience is given while the family remains unaware.

As a result of being the only one not magically sealed away in that 41 year long reign, Esteban is the only person who aged at all. Everyone else is the exact same age they were when they were first put in stasis. This is relevant.

This is a show for 6 year olds.

Okay that’s unfair, it’s for anyone.

I left out a lot of smaller details (that are very relevant), like the spirit guide fox thing, Alacazar’s grandson Mateo being someone to help Sofia— junk like that. But for broad strokes THIS is the important stuff.

THERE’S A LOT IM OBSESSED WITH- the character animation is genuinely really good. Like, hello?? And it actually gets better as it goes on. They got all kinds of stuff to look at in the background. The designs? Peak. Gabe means the world to me. Songs? Bangers. THE OVERARCHING NARRATIVE?? They actually GOT 3 seasons to build and finish so I— 🤧🤧. There’s a body count in this show. Elena kills somebody, this is not a joke. I love Elena, I love her friends, I love her family, fuck. I love the worldbuilding I LOVE anything that utilizes mesoamerica in it’s lore, fuck.

I think about it more than I should.

THIS BITCH—- I could go on about this bitch all day. Genuinely went from despising him at first to shooting up to my favorite by the end of the series, I’m going to combust, I should have liveblogged my first viewing. That’s my one regret. It probably would have been very funny

Crowley is soooo gentle with Muriel I love it. I think that in season 3 Crowley will be helping Muriel adjust on earth. Maybe he wont be going back at the bookshop but he might be popping up here and there like he did with Aziraphale.

Not even Aziraphale’s recognize him BUT Crowley does.. if Gabriel had his memories would he recognize him as well? Is that a hierarchy thing or is it because he fell? Did Crowley talk with him the same way Aziraphale did last season and then took the decision to fall?

Question. What are the consequences of letting an Archangel and a Duke of hell leave. Like Lucy and the other angels the first time left because there was no “bad side” and someone had to be it, so they fell and made hell, but now it's bc the want to? Like they are not becoming humans they are just peacing out. And they are the “leaders”!! If Aziraphale and Crowley left they would have being just replaced but you can’t replace a fucking Archangel and a Duke can you? They do put Shax and Aziraphale (allegedly) but can they actually replace them?

Aziraphale is very cold at the beginning when talking to Metatron, then he drinks from the coffee and then when he listened to Metatron’s proposition he became warmer (but in the end he got manipulated into it)

Aziraphale is literally going against the status quo, albeit accidentally yes, since the Garden so why him?

 “Oh Crowley, nothing lasts forever” WHO GAVE YOU THIS IDEA THO? You collect books. Yes you know that nothings lasts forever cuz you are an immortal being living among the mortal but that is a “new” mentality for an optimistic character. Again you collect books. Books that are made from organic matter. Books that almost got burned. Aziraphale didn’t stop having the bookshop after the fire, he took precaution so that it wont happen again. That’s not an “nothing lasts forever” mentality if you ask me. It was either from the coffee or he was meant to say something else.

I would like to point out that Crowley took his glasses off when he tried to speak first and put them back on after “nothing lasts forever”. Thank you im not ok

lovely ali @fairydyke-mothr tagged me to post 5 things i can't stop writing <3 i am not much of a writer beyond fics aka half formed fic ideas so this list will be a lil messy. i have the most stuff for ted lasso and svu but ill focus on svu here LOL

1. toxic WASTE eo like love confessions buried in the nastiest arguments ever. im sorry i just love mess. similarly, someone saying i love you and being hit with like "no you dont. die" or "i wish i didnt" also eo as the soulmates who should never have met ive blown apart my life for you and eo from every outside view being the two most infuriating people ever (as explained by kathy stabler to barba, and amanda to liv and to elliot). eo who became a swirling black hole that took everyone with them. i think its easier for me to write eo from like other character povs bc i didnt originally watch the eo seasons so theres always an element of like. ghostly entity elliot stabler coloring my perception of him And i find their dynamic really hard to put into words in like. an interesting way. theyre just insane idk

2. the olivia bensonism of right where you left me and her constant fear of being left behind + her pushing people away + single most important person in my life and you just disappeared i have a few different "i cant do this" lines written and this last ep has obviously only made me worse

i also have elliot getting offered a transfer back to rome and in a moment of pure insanity telling liv he'll do whatever she asks him to. and because shes Her she tells him to leave and hes like okay ? and shes like i am obviously lying what is wrong with you.

a lot of sad liv internal monologues about how she misses elliot every moment that shes with him

3. the girls are fightiiing my list of conversations amanda and liv have never had and my ongoing list of out of pocket things liv has said or done to amanda <3 mess ! and a random fight about kim that leads to kissing lol

also a list of random thoughts about liv and amanda when i was first figuring out their dynamic like "real canon compliant rollivia means fighting and miscommunication"

4. amanda taking eo matters into her own hands. she talks to stabler. a lot. and she yells at liv for not making a move after she finds out about the intervention. more on this as it develops.

5. girl. grief and parental trauma ! the mother wound chile ! olivia bensons slight obsessive jealous homoerotic hatred of other women in non professional settings ! this became a note about how she separates everyone she meets into a kathy stabler or a serena benson and uses that to inform her feelings towards them
