Season 2 Rewatch Drabbles--2x10 The Cricket Game

Summary:  A series of 100-500 word drabbles to accompany my   rewatch of season 2 of Once Upon a Time as an attempt to finally jump   start the muse again.  There will be a drabble–either a deleted scene, a   “fix it” fic or a character musing for each episode of the season.    Focus will be on Emma, Henry, the Charmings and Killian–with an   emphasis on the very beginnings of Captain Swan’s epic love story, as   soon as a certain dashing pirate makes his appearance.

Note:  I never expected to write a fic from Pongo’s POV, but here we are!
He could tell from the moment she walked into his human’s office that something was off.
This woman who confidently walked into Archie’s office looked like the mayor, but Pongo knew differently.  He knew the mayor’s scent.  This one was similar—but it wasn’t the same. It was foreign.  Something he’d never smelled before.
Life in Storybrooke had always been predictable, routine, and Pongo loved routine.  Every morning just as the sun peaked through the curtains, he woke and then fulfilled his first task—waking the human.  Archie liked to grumble about Pongo waking him up with a lick to the face, but then Archie would do that thing that humans did with their faces where their lips go up.  Pongo thought it was called a smile.  All he knew is that humans did it when they were pleased with him and he was being a very good boy.
Later, Archie would feed him, and then they’d take their morning walk, greeting all their neighbors. Then it was off to work.  While his master talked to other people and helped them to feel better, Pongo sat by in his bed, ready at a moment’s notice to provide assistance if he was needed.
Every day was the same. Every scent was the same—at least until that woman, Emma, arrived.  She had a different scent, but Pongo liked her.  She gave him pets and sometimes even treats.
And Henry loved her. If ever Pongo was to adopt a little boy, it would be Henry.  Pongo knew he’d been lonely, and he’d hoped he would someday find someone to love.  This Emma was good for his favorite little boy, and that made Emma good in Pongo’s book.
But this new woman who’d just walked in—the one who wore the mayor’s face—she wasn’t a good new scent like Emma.  She was a very, very bad scent.
Pongo felt his hackles rise and he sat tall, growling menacingly as she walked in the door.  Archie chided him for his reaction, but Archie didn’t know, couldn’t smell who this was.  Humans had the worst noses!
It didn’t take long for Pongo’s instincts to be proven right.  No sooner had the imposter walked in the door than she raised her hand, putting Archie in a choke hold.   Pongo sprang to his feet, barking for all he was worth, but it was all over too soon for him to save his person.  One moment the woman wearing the mayor’s face was holding him, and then they both disappeared in a puff of smoke, leaving the lifeless body of a man behind.
This man looked like Archie, but it wasn’t him.  Pongo knew it wasn’t him.
Something was very, very wrong here, and Pongo knew he needed help.  Emma would help him!  Emma and Henry, but how would he tell them what had happened?
Then it clicked. Ruby.  She was different.  She understood him.  He had to find her; there was no time to lose!

gonna ask this pre finale because if we get a confession and kiss that will obviously be number one. But rank season 2 portwell scenes from favourite to least favourite (but let's be real there isn't one bad portwell scene cause they're all amazing) out of the 2x05 quinceanero scene, 2x06 wonderstudy scene, 2x07 fake dating scene, 2x08 couch scene, 2x09 airport scene, 2x10 risotto scene, 2x11 seperate interview scene, 2x11 hallway scene & 2x11 something there scene.
ahhh i’ll try my best <3
1. 2x08 couch scene - this could be the only portwell scene in existence and i would ship them solely for this reason. the beauty and the beast energy they radiated i cry
2. 2x09 airport scene - they came straight out of a 2000s romcom
3. 2x11 something there scene - the actual soulmatism. there was literally a curtain between them yet they felt each other on the other side. also, this song is the turning point of adam and belle’s relationship.
4. 2x10 risotto scene - literally the chemistry here. the way they were both glowing. also, applause for very nuanced acting from matt and sofia <3
5. 2x07 fake dating scene - the fact they fake dated twice… they own this trope. covinsky has nothing on them.
6. 2x05 quinceañero scene - literally where my obsession started. i shipped them since s1 but this was when they became my otp of the show. ej being the only one asking how gina felt & then he stares at her from afar. top tier.
7. 2x11 separate interview scene - gina used to say she doesn’t do dates then straight up said “what do you wear on a date?” she doesn’t do dates unless it’s with ej caswell is what i’m getting at
8. 2x06 wonderstudy scene - i remember screaming at my screen “go with ej!!!” and she rejected ricky and chose ej, as i knew she would
9. 2x11 hallway scene - i cringe at ej’s pun… but gina was so happy so that’s all that matters… also ej not being threatened by ricky or the chocolates at all & gina being unbothered as well and giggling >>>

script notes part 2 (nick)
as promised here are my notes on the season 2 scripts i read, still with the heavy Nick bias. if you missed it, you can see my season 1 post here!
btw i did not write up the scenes that are already in the “script to screen” clips - like the ambulance scene, etc - since you can already see those for yourself.
uhh the writers get spicy with the love scenes in this season. felt like an erotic novel at times. i actually read the phrase “stroked his soft penis until it was hard” with my own eyes not once but twice... those table reads must’ve been a real treat 👀
June being rough with Nick wasn’t in the script, that was Lizzie. in the script Nick just kisses June and backs her up against a wall before they bone all day.
June told Nick all about the letters and how she got them during her time at the Globe, so he knows what they are when he catches her burning them later. (this wasn’t a cut scene, it’s just mentioned during said burning) also they apparently got really used to being a normal couple during that time, and going back to sneaking around is one of the hardest things June has to adjust to when she returns to the Waterfords.
June seeing Nick in the kitchen for the first time after she was caught was “like watching her life preserver float away”
when Aunt Lydia shows up at the Waterford house and makes comments about the baby’s father while Nick tries super hard to look casual - this is when Fred realizes the baby is actually his
Nick is worried sick about June “becoming Offred” again. when he asks Serena Joy to get June a different kind of doctor, he was acting entirely on his anxiety. this is what sets off Serena Joy’s jealousy aaaand...
Nick’s wedding was entirely Serena Joy’s idea. she just manipulates Fred into setting it in motion.
the wedding really did break Nick. him saying he’ll have a child of his own someday was not a dig at Fred, it was him “showing his belly to the alpha” and disclaiming their child 😭
June still thinks about Nick a lot. the scene where she walks into the kitchen and finds Fred grumpily eating a snack, she actually went in there hoping it was Nick.
Nick told June that he loves her because it’s why he can’t consummate his marriage (besides, of course, being hella grossed out by it) so it wasn’t just a random declaration with bad timing, it was basically “i can’t do this BECAUSE i love you”
during the consummation, good old “hole in the sheet” was not present in the script. also Nick thinks about June and touches himself before the actual act (see my first note 😳) then just pretty much closes his eyes and does it. he feels sick the whole time. i was trying not to scream in the library while reading this
there was nothing fishy about the weird scene with Pryce where Nick requests a transfer. it’s mostly dialogue again. but Nick was described as “shattered” (note that this is a word usually only used to describe June) by the consummation so he was apparently just panicking. this season put heavy emphasis on the breaking of Nick.
also the red center explosion was written from Nick’s perspective. he’s standing with the other drivers and about to light a cigarette when boom.
the loss of Pryce affected Nick because he saw him as “an ally and protector” (i feel like protector is an interesting choice of words)
June and Nick’s kiss at the hospital was mostly dialogue. all the touching and Nick wiping away her tears was Max and Lizzie.
June and Nick holding hands in 2x08 was also unscripted
Nick returns to his apartment stressing hard about June going to Fred’s office (where Serena Joy gets beaten) when Eden jumps him about the curtains
when Eden finds the letters and Nick gets pissed - “Nick assumes the role of patriarch with frightening ease” but he later gets mad at himself for it
the script does not clarify whether or not Eden read the letters so it must be irrelevant. this scene only brings the focus on Nick feeling overwhelmed and trapped in his own house.
when Nick is about to leave for Canada, it says he stays cold with Eden because he has not forgiven himself for scolding her
with all the Eden scenes there is a lot of “Nick doesn’t know what to say; chooses silence” going on
when Nick meets Luke - the only thing different from the “script to screen” clip is that when Nick tells Luke he’s just a driver, he pauses and adds that he lives above the garage with his wife. this is why Luke isn’t suspicious of his relationship with June.
Nick and June’s reunion after Canada was apparently the first time they had touched in months
June was unable to process the news about Luke, and Nick was “hit by the strength of this woman” gosh darniT
when he says “i love you” for the second time, June doesn’t respond because “it’s all too complicated to put into words”
Eden’s breakdown after kissing Isaac is described as a “teenage temper tantrum” and Nick was really sad for her but also 100% over his life at the moment 😬
when Nick is sitting alone flicking his lighter, he’s thinking about how he could’ve become a father that day 😭
Nick tearing up during the June/Hannah reunion was not in the script
Nick holds and comforts June as Hannah is leaving with the Martha, before Hannah runs back to her. i was surprised by this as there were still Guardians present. he also runs to her and drops to his knees in the snow to hold her again after Hannah is gone.
there is no mention of Nick in the script during the birth of their child. June is really worried for him at the beginning of this episode, but that’s it.
in the church when June starts leaking milk at the sound of Holly crying, Nick is “amazed and moved” by it while Fred is “repelled” because he’s trash
Holly is referred to only as Nichole from this point on and i really Hate it
in the Hawaii scene, Nick’s line is actually “the baby is so beautiful” but Max says “our baby” in the final cut 😭 bless you Max
Nick walked away from June’s comfort after Eden’s execution because he knew if he opened up to her he would break down
there was a cut scene where he goes back to his empty apartment and really does break down
when Rita and June are going through Eden’s belongings, there was a part where Nick is bringing the stuff in and gets sad looking at it. June holds his hand and finally gets to comfort him, right in front of Rita who’s just like “we been knew”
the “your girlfriend is a badass” scene was mostly dialogue. again, all the touching was Max and Lizzie.
the scene when Nick holds Holly is described in the script as “a real family portrait” to juxtapose Fred and Serena Joy’s family portrait 😭
June saying “i love you” to Nick was completely genuine, nothing in the script implies otherwise. Nick is described as speechless. this scene is written like a sort of happy ending for Nick and June in season 2, and mirrors the pregnancy scene in season 1.
Nick was not aware that June may escape in the last episode, but when he looked up at the house he had a gut feeling that she was going to do it.
some other random things i took note of:
when June is going through newspaper clippings at the Globe, there’s so much info about Gilead being dumped here. she listens to recordings on a tape and the script describes everything she is finding in detail. i was running out of time at this point so i’ll need to go back and take notes on this scene specifically because it’s super interesting.
during the false labor scene when Fred is entertaining commanders in his office, there is heavy emphasis on Commander Horace having a baby with his wife and the fact that he “hopes to make all commanders like Fred obsolete” so i think this may be revisited in season 3
Serena Joy was absolutely VILE during the 2x10 rape scene. even Fred feels guilt immediately afterwards and can recognize that June is a person. but Serena Joy was only upset that it was more difficult than she expected. June’s crying makes Serena realize she “might actually be a terrible person” which makes her feel weak, and the weakness makes her angry. the script goes on to say that she hates June for fighting back and making it harder than it needed to be. she even holds June down by her neck at some point. remind me again why anyone is stanning for a Serena Joy redemption??
also despite Serena Joy being complete rotten garbage, after June tells Emily “call her Nichole” she actually goes on to say “tell her about Serena, that she loved her” (instead of “tell her i love her”) because the writers apparently had amnesia while making season 2
after reading all these scripts my conclusion is that Nick/June appears to be endgame. it’s definitely NOT a lustful tryst, or a convenient affair. their whole story reads like an epic romance - season 1 especially - and Max and Lizzie added SO much depth and chemistry to their interactions when they didn’t have to. i can tell that the writers put real effort into shaping Nick into the ideal love interest for someone in June’s position, while Luke is more of an afterthought. they wouldn’t do all that if June was meant to give up Nick and go back to Luke in the end.
i think in the final cut of the show they tried to scale back the romantic aspects and put more focus on survival, but it’s still real. and yeah, the main reason i did this is because people are prone to interpreting Nick’s character wrong, even though Max is great at getting these nuances across. he shouldn’t be dismissed as a non-victim just because he happens to be a Guardian.
also, since these posts are picking up steam, if anyone has questions about something specific that i may not have mentioned, i’ll answer while the scripts are still fresh in my mind! i’ll be returning to the library at some point as well, so if there’s something you want me to look up, i will take note.

Tagging @ksaxophone who wanted both 2x10 scenes. 
Emotionally ready? LMAO NONNY, YOU’RE FUNNY. I have not been emotionally ready for anything ever since the finale and I am still not. BUT. I did rewatch that scene like a hundred times today so I’m about as close as I think I’m going to get. 
With Lucy, I’m assuming she’s been sitting there for awhile by the time Flynn arrives. Sitting, waiting, thinking about everything–Wyatt’s betrayal, Jessica, losing Carol, Carol’s last words–she’s about at the end of her rope by the time this scene starts. 
And then Flynn walks in and he’s tense and frustrated, possibly even regretful that he doesn’t have news Lucy’s going to want to hear. Because Emma got away. The frustration is most obvious in his voice when he mentions Wyatt (”Relax, I couldn’t kill Wyatt even if I wanted to. And I want to.”), which…valid. It is entirely legitimate for absolutely all of them to be pissed at Wyatt right now. And it’s even more legitimate for Flynn, who has every reason to not only be pissed at Wyatt, but all of them for cutting him out of the loop on an issue that ended up totally fucking them over. 
But he doesn’t hold onto that. Instead, he drops the curtain, sighs, takes a few steps toward Lucy. You can tell from how resigned his voice is when he asks about Carol that he’s already sure she’s dead. It’s just a matter of reading the situation, seeing what kind of comfort, if any, he can offer now. 
Lucy…god, she kills me in this scene. She doesn’t look at him for most of it. From the time she says that Carol’s dead all the way up until Flynn mentions Wyatt again, she’s just looking straight ahead, but not really seeing. And Flynn…he puts himself in her line of sight anyway.   
“She’s dead,” and Lucy isn’t looking at him, isn’t looking at anything, so he steps closer, into her field of vision so she’ll know he’s there for her(physically and metaphorically). And he tells her he’s sorry. Now, I don’t think he’s actually sorry Carol is dead. I stand by what I said after 2x06 that if Flynn had been in Wyatt’s place then, he would have taken the shot. But he’s sorry that Lucy is hurting. He’s sorry that she had to lose Carol like that. And I’m sure he’s sorry that he couldn’t have at least come back to tell her that he took out Emma. 
The camera stays pretty close to Lucy’s face while she’s talking about Carol, and she’s still stuck in that hollow-eyed, seeing/unseeing stare into nothingness.  The one shot of Flynn we get then, he’s struggling. Pretty sure his face is the “God, Carol, we knew you were bad but that’s terrible even for you” representation of all of us while his heart breaks for her. And then we get, “You were right.” 
“You were right,” and his mouth opens slightly, maybe in shock, maybe to say something, but the camera cuts away and Lucy keeps going. “You were right,” and under different circumstances he would love to hear that from her, but not now. Not with this. Not when her next words are blaming herself, criticizing herself, echoing his own words from 2x02. But when he said them he was angry, he was lashing out, he wanted them to cut. Now though, when she’s the one saying them, hurting herself, he can’t stand to hear it. So he cuts her off. He shifts the focus back to Wyatt. Wyatt’s the one who got them into this situation, not her. Not her mother. He wants her to stop blaming herself, so he gives her another option. 
Only, as I wrote in this post earlier, Lucy doesn’t want to blame Wyatt right now. It’s too much. So instead, she does to Flynn what Wyatt did to her and pulls the “What would you have done in this situation?” card. But even as she’s asking, she’s falling apart. Her voice shakes, she sounds almost on the verge of tears at points, she’s talking very fast. She doesn’t even let him answer before she jumps into “You can blame Wyatt if you want–” and that’s his breaking point. He’s been keeping his distance, trying to figure out what she needs in this moment, what he can do, but he’s not going to do nothing when she’s clearly so close to the edge. 
So he cuts her off. “I don’t give a damn about Wyatt,” but it’s not angry or bitter or anything like that. It’s soft, almost pleading in a way, and he goes down on one knee to put himself on her level, to get as close as possible without overstepping. And the way he looks at her is also so damn soft. The split-second smile on “Wyatt”, the hush in his voice, the whole thing is A Lot, okay? And then we get an instant of Lucy being…surprised? It’s fast and hard to read her expression, but she certainly doesn’t seem to be against his proximity, which in itself says volumes about how far their relationship has come. 
“That’s not why I’m here.” 
Lucy’s face. Lucy’s. Face. He’s gazing at her with all this intensity and is so close and she cycles through a number of different emotions. Confusion. A hint of fear. Curiosity. Wonder. Because it’s clear that this is A Moment. A moment like the end of 2x08, where if she asks the right questions, she’ll get answers. But they may be big and life changing and terrifying…or they could be those things and also beautiful and hopeful and right. And yet, she does ask. 
“Why are you here?” And it’s everything. It’s why did he do any of it to begin with. Why didn’t he abandon them all after he escaped prison. Why has he stayed, why has he put up with a miserable existence in a cramped bunker with people who don’t like him. Why has he been there…for her. Why is he there for her now. 
She searches his face with her eyes in that pause, and when the camera cuts back to him, you can tell that he’s resolving himself to just saying it (whatever “it” is), he opens his mouth…and then the door opens and I swear to god I have never hated Wyatt more in my entire life than I have in that moment. Because nonny, I have no idea what Flynn was going to say. I feel confident that it wasn’t anything he’s said before. Given the context, the look on his face before he decided to go for it, and the way he tugs at his collar and leans back when Wyatt interrupts, I’m sure it was very personal and quite probably romantic. Why is he there? He’s there for her. 
Anyway. Let Flynn Tell Lucy He Loves Her 2K18/In Season 3, because the man is absolutely ass-over-teakettle gone for her and this entire season has done nothing to challenge my feelings that they’re married/together in the future/in the journal. 
I love one (1) supportive, comforting, beautiful husband. *cries about it for a year*

Caretaker Jenkins Appreciation Week #CJAW2018
Day 2 (May 2nd): Favorite Lines or Scenes 
Ok so, first, yesterday’s warning: I still got a fever, hence I’m not exactly compos mentis. Second, I restrained myself to only putting here non-relationship moments as much as possible, saving them for Day 5, or things that I’ve already used yesterday. So, to understand my love appreciation for Jenkins you will have to kinda look at all the Days together and some more which means you’ll see every single moment he’s on screen. Let’s rant.
1x03 and the Horns of a Dilemma: every single time I see that shot I start laughing so much, so here it is! Jenkins in his cute lab-coat, upside-down, head tilted. Gotta love him.
1x05 and the Apple of Discord: Do I need to comment on this? His gestuality and his expression are priceless
1x06 and the Fables of Doom: this scene is so freaking cute - also, I saw @jenksel‘s Day 2 earlier and I was like “I do that too!” I move my arms unconsciously like him every time I use a vending machine and receive some weird looks for it
2x02 and the Broken Staff: possibly one of his best line ever (comically speaking) and so #relatable it hurts
2x04 and the Cost of Education: you know by now that I love this moment because it’s the first time he calls her Cassandra and not Miss Cillian
2x06 and the Infernal Contract: I mean, how could I not put here The Butt Slap™ and his reaction to Eve’s amazing punch? 
2x10 and the Final Curtain: because I can’t stop laughing at the term “mid-life crisis” (you know, immortal ‘till a certain f*cking Noone got in the way but that never happened) and at Cassandra’s interested expression because “in that moment, I swear, we were-” all Cassandra 
3x05 and the Tears of a Clown: I mean, this scene didn’t have me in tears. Not at all. *starts crying again*
4x08 and the Hidden Sanctuary: this was probably one of the most important scenes of season 4 for me, because here, he’s the only thing making sense to her, the only thing centering her, and for someone who’s had panick attacks, that spoke True Love maybe even more than the Tea Party and the Cucumber-Sandwiches-Scene-which-we-are-not-talking-about-because-it-never-happened-nope.

I guess the only explanation for them meeting there would be that all of them happened to see Vanya on tv or just heard about an explosion happening which eventually led to the military getting involved and then the USSR and blah blah blah so being superheroes they wanted to try to stop it but just so happened to run into their siblings while they were there so they banded together. 
As for the song though I like it but only lyrical wise. I you look up the lyrics to “My Way” by Frank Sinatra they match really well to it. Unbeknownst to the siblings, it’s their final stand and they’re together and fighting. They are quite literally doing it “their way” and are about to face their deaths. 
And now, the end is near And so I face the final curtain My friend, I'll say it clear I'll state my case, of which I'm certain I've lived a life that's full I traveled each and every highway And more, much more than this I did it my way
But yeah I agree, that scene just feels really off and just shoved in your face. How did Hazel know that Five was going to show up there? Wasn’t he done with The Commission at the end of S1 so he wouldn’t have known? And yeah in the end it didn’t even show the siblings developing their powers. I’m even going to say that just Diego, Klaus, and Vanya were the only ones who discovered new parts of abilities, but even with Klaus that’s going out on a limb. He simply learned how to conjure more than one spirit (suddenly he can conjure a small army and Ben when in 1x10 he was struggling to conjure just Ben). If they were going to show us random power upgrades during that scene then they should have shown Luther, Allison, and Ben with upgrades too :/ 
This all still applies to the end of S2. It would have been nice to previously show Diego and Klaus at least learning to develop the new part of their ability. I think in 2x10 with Diego suddenly deflecting the bullets was a nice surprise though oddly enough (don’t get me started on my rant about his powers though). But TUA thrives on sudden and shocking moments, which don’t always make sense!
perhaps a hot take but... i dislike that season 2 opening scene where five's siblings suddenly have upgraded powers. like i really really dislike it. whatevenwasthepointofthat

Day 5: Fav Reference Ezekiel Said
So this one was super easy for me, cuz my inner Whovian went crazy when Ezekiel compared the house in “And the Heart of Darkness” (1x08) to the Tardis since it could teleport around.

And that reference got even better in the next season in “And the Final Curtain” (2x10) where they go to the time machine room in the Library...which had a tardis in it.

And in the first ep of Season 3 “And in the Rise of Chaos” there were the mannequins that suddenly came alive...which was some super strong auton vibes from Doctor Who, which John Kim confirmed on twitter.
Honestly as the Librarians started, I was already waning pretty quickly in my obsession with Doctor Who with the whole Doctor change, meh writing, and the Clara thing (not a fan of her really). So the Librarians took me back to the good times, reminding me of the fun and funny Doctor Who, with smart but also goofy characters who were all really well written and allowed to grow.
I’m also a nerd for lore and mythology so of course the Librarians fulfills that need loads. I was really into Indiana Jones as a kid, then Merlin happened, and Supernatural happened, then Atlantis happened for a season on BBC. I mean don’t get me wrong, I also love sci-fi, Star Trek especially, but there’s just something about exploring stuff from the distant past that gets me going.
Wow I diverged there, but yeah, the Doctor Who references in the Librarians made me smile
