The new year feels like a broken clock that speeds up when you want the world to slow down. It doesn't care how heavy your heart is or how you fail to catch the light with your flimsy hands, it just approaches whether you're ready or not.

It spins forward and we spin with it and it sometimes feels a little unnerving, how evrything keeps moving while you’re standing there counting how many breaths you have left. But it's also comforting, It’s like a little nudge saying hey by the way, you can hit reset whenever you want. and you can, there's no universal default start date, your beginning can be when ever you want it to be. Maybe your new year starts when the winter months are long gone and the flowers are in bloom, maybe you begin when the sun baths the ground with new life and the glow of it all makes everything feel easier.

Maybe this year you don't think about beginnings or endings but just let yourself enjoy the middle. Time doesn't care when you start or how, it will push you along regardless. This year will be what it'll be, things from the last year will be carried along and some left behind, we just have to have hope that it'll kind.

i keep coming back to 'i was a functioning alcoholic til nobody noticed my new aesthetic' because i do distinctly remember conversations about how taylor seemed to be drinking a lot more and getting drunk at like every awards show she went to. and those conversations were coming from a place of concern and of hoping that she was alright and that this wasn't a problem.

so to then say 'ugh i can't believe no one noticed this problem i had' when i know that people definitely did, and on the same album say that fans who are genuinely concerned about a new relationship that you are in are just 'bitching and moaning'? what do you want from them? you're talking about so many people who do at least believe that they are coming from a place of care and concern, and you are totally dismissing them on both ends of a scale!

not to mention that her implying that since nobody (???) was noticing her ~aesthetic~ drinking problem she just stopped having it is a bit of a kick in the teeth to people who do have drinking problems and can't just stop having them, since that's not how it fucking works.

A Letter

To whom it may concern:

I am a visibly queer person

I am gender non conforming and goth.

I am a young teenager.

I’ve been hate crimed six times, four of them physical.

I have scars.

I’m scared of being shot or killed when I leave my house.

I shouldn’t.

I’m so, so scared.

And it’s so, so unfair.

I should be doing regular teenager things

I should be laughing with friends

or playing games

I should be painting

or studying for GCSEs

But instead I’m fearing for my friends’ lives

And they’re fearing for mine.

My best friend is a trans girl.

Will she be here in the morning?

We’re all targets.

My best friend is Asian.

Will they be here in the morning?

We’re all targets.

My best friend is disabled.

Will he be here in the morning?

We’re all targets.

The person that’s told me so many times to live

Is she going to live with me?

Or is she going to be another Nex Benedict?

Another Pauly Likens?

Another name on a memorial?

Another case to close?

Yet another trans teen to mourn?

I’m turning fifteen in two weeks. Will I make it to sixteen?

Sure, poetry is rooted in emotion

There’s a lot of them going around

But it shouldn’t have to be this emotion.

Each year I have a new resolution and I can't help but have another. For the past four years it was to have enough food to eat, for a bed to sleep on instead of the hard floor, for my mother( where ever she may be) to be okay. This year I want to feel like a bird let out a cage, I want to shed the apathy from me, I want to peel back a layer and expose myself to all sorts of possibilities, I want to feel the heat of it on new skin. I want to live, not just survive, here's to 2025.
