Saw the JD & Floyd post and was about to say “Maybe he should” but then it just made me sad. Like damn he cares about his family to the detriment of himself, what does that say about his relationship with Creek. I think I remember you writing something about Floyd realizing he’s genuinely fallen in love with him.

you want me to show how much thought ive put into tdau floyd? the funny cokehead with commitment issues? the guy who posts thirst traps out of spite? okay (keep in mind that most of this is just what *I* think and hasnt been cleared with alex, but when i write for floyd its genuinely what i consider in the back of my mind)

i think he was 13 y/o when he went out on his own (1999), began seeing the rest of the troll tree for himself, until he finally escaped on his own at around 15 (2001), a year before the entire tribe was evacuated (2002). he hitch hiked a bit and got to see a bunch of tribes but he only really got to see techno reef and volcano rock city, staying in vrc a lot longer (LONG before barb was in power and turned rocks view on pop from "they fucked up a really long time ago but were safe from them now" to "we need to colonise them back") and discovering a lot about himself in the process

he turned 18 (2004) and, as most ex-child stars do, immediately went IN on hard drugs and sex with strangers, as if thats the test for proving your adulthood. and he had a good time! he spent most of his life drugged to the gills and unable to look himself in the mirror the rare moments he was sober, but, yknow. details. then he got bored. and he went travelling again

at the age of 20 (2006) he left troll kingdom entirely. obviously he stayed CLEAR of bergen town (and silently prayed to whatever god pop trolls typically believe in that his family were safe and undigested). but he saw all sorts of places! places we havent seen yet, with species we havent seen yet, of extremely varying sizes! hell, he mightve met a species or two that are smaller than trolls! imagine that. but spending years travelling, it gets lonely. he never got to connect with anyone. hell, he never even had a real boyfriend! the most he had was that situationship he had that lasted 5 weeks before he got ghosted when that techno troll got back with his girlfriend. (its okay though, he channels his pain into his art, and that was one became his most popular song on bandcamp by a significant margin!)

at 27 years old (2013) he arrived in mount rageous. sure, they were huge, and he was terrified of being eaten, obviously. but they didnt want to eat him! they thought he was cute. and, he wont lie, he liked the attention. he became a novelty, that tiny little creature with his even tinier guitar, who apparently built up such a tolerance he can handle mount rageon drugs. imagine doing blow with stewert little. they loved him, as entertainment. he still didnt have anyone who loved him as a person, but at that point he was willing to settle.

when hes 36 (2023) he gets kidnapped by velvet & veneer, and of course no one thought to look for him. you wouldnt notice if the mouse in your house suddenly went missing. at most youd think someone you live with finally took care of it, and youd move on with your life.

the events of the movie happen, hes reunited with his siblings, he actually feels valued as a person again, AND to top it all off, those two months in the bottle did WONDERS for detoxing. next time he tries pop troll coke he actually feels a buzz! he never thought hed see the day!

brozone reunite, we see the early days of their career carry out in the au. floyd feels like hes on top of the world. hes got his family back, hes back in pop village (albeit, its a different pop village than he knew. hell, they used to all it troll village back then!) hes releasing actual music again, and not just busking for tips (its okay he didnt need much, he rented out a mouse hole for cheap). but he wants an actual connection. he wants a relationship. but hes never actually had that! hes never even felt respected by a potential partner! so he goes back to random hookups. and, yknow, its fun, he guesses. but he wants more

the first troll who seems to actually take interest in him as anything more than a hot piece of ass or "that guy from brozone" rocks his world. hes ashamed to admit that after knowing the guy for 3 hours he already thought about spending the rest of his life with him. he just wasnt used to being spoken to like a person by anyone other than immediate family members! its okay though, he couldnt scare him off, because he was being paid to be there, and after recording himself getting in floyds pants (the only way he knows how to show affection at this point) it was all over the internet

so, you know, obviously floyd wasnt doing great. hes gotten good at hiding his feelings (not like anyone really cares about them anyway) but he was clearly struggling. he did what he does best, and turned it into a joke, so maybe itd hurt a little less. he probably made it worse, but at least he was numb now. he goes back to hookups, deciding hell never have an actual boyfriend, hell never get married, and hes okay with that. well, hes clearly not, but its not like anyone ever asked, so he has to deal.

then he meets creek. and at this point hes not stupid. hes not that naive little kid anymore, and when he wakes up the next morning and realises his newest one night stand was that guy, the asshole, the one who everyone hates, he knows hes the butt of the joke, again. theres probably a camera, again. he leaves before creek wakes up.

but then he meets him again, a few days later. and creek says how much of a shame it is he never got his digits. and floyd doesnt know what to make of this. but he knows he shouldnt trust him. he heard everything riff said about him, everything BRANCH said about him. he knows every one of creeks crimes. but maybe he just wants to have some fun, yknow? everyones always fucking with him, maybe he wants to play around sometime. show the world hes not some little helpless doll.

what follows is about a year and a half of gay chicken on expert mode. creek pretends to love floyd. floyd pretends he doesnt know creeks pretending. floyd feels in control, almost. he gets comfortable. he refuses to believe its love, how could it be love? theyre awful to each other. but its, technically, his first real relationship. he tries not to think about it.

maybe encouraging creek to propose was a little more than seeing how far he can push him before he snaps. maybe he wanted to prove that hes worth it, even if the other guy wasnt. maybe he genuinely cried when he got angelinas egg, even if hed rather die than let creek see him express genuine emotions. he knows hes the sensitive one, but hes more than brozone. hes a person. a person that people dont ever seem to want to know.

then he realises. hes not the only one whos gotten comfortable. creek looks... not happy, exactly. but content. and floyd thinks thats terrifying. its too far, thats not how any of this was supposed to work. it was REVENGE. floyd was fucking with him, because creek was fucking with him first! now hes married, hes MARRIED, with KIDS, TWINS! THAT HE NAMED! and he loves them! and he loves creek! and creek loves him! hes gonna be sick. he cant do this. he cant be here. he lives in a mansion but its suffocating him. he leaves. he divorces creek.

hes miserable again. jd doesnt notice bc hes "the sensitive one", and his other brothers dont know how to bring it up without making it worse. branch is the only one who asks how hes holding up, but he just says hes fine, hell bounce back. he doesnt bounce back

when he meets creek again, he wants to cry. he wants to get on his hands and knees and beg him to take him back, but he has a LITTLE bit of self respect left. when he finds out creek missed him too its more than he can take. when they get drunk, and floyd forces jd to re-marry them, floyd actually feels like a person. a broken person, who healed in a creek-shaped mould, but a person nonetheless. and maybe thats all he can ask for

Ninjavember 2023!

Here's completed version with a bunch of explaining below each picture! Just scroll down if you don't want to see me blabbering. (I tried to go short as much as possible)

(I have a lot of AUs and headcanons that only exist in my head and my sketchbooks. Forgive me for wanting to spill them out.)

Day 2: Randy was listening to music with earphones so he didn't know Theresa was sitting next to him. Imagine how embarrassed he would get when he knows.

Day 8: Tech-Ninja AU. It's about machinist Randy being set up by Mcfist for murdering the town hero Ninja with his invention, the Tech-Ninja armor. Then the spirit of the destroyed Nomicon travelled to his armor and become an AI, choosing him to be the next Ninja. So Randy accepted it and was determined to make up for what he caused, when nobody except Howard, the boss of Weinerman industries, trusted him.

Day 10: Apocalypse AU. It's about Randy lost the battle at the end of season 2 and became the prisoner of the Sorcerer. The Nomicon was handed to Howard before that, and they later recruited survivors to form a resistance against the Sorcerer. Then Randy was stanked, but instead of turning into a monster, he was brainwashed and given the power of creating his own red and black stank. And- You know what will happen. (Inspired by the Darkness of Randy Cunningham)

Day 13: Elemental trial AU. You can say it's my take on what will happen in season 3. The Carp god was under the cover of a random carpfish as Norisville mascot. After a series of events it was awaken and gave Randy the power of Ice Rage.

Day 14: I think there's more than just the blood of First Ninja's brothers, since nobody knows how to destank people at the beginning...

Day 17: The Warrior might have been living or sleeping there, waiting for some ninjas to wake him up or consult him about his forbidden arts. (Ha, It's kinda like Eclipsa in Star vs. the forces of Evil)

Day 18: Or it can be called the New Generation AU. In the future, Randy took the place of Messager as well as the Ninja Guardian, while Brent became the new Sword Smith and Sorceress became their main villain. I am not really good at designing OCs so there's no next ninja yet.

However, I read a fanfic of another fandom in the form of CYOA, and it gave me new idea: just let the reader be the next ninja, it will be fun, too. (Also, this AU was inspired by an RC9GN fanfic titled from the past to the future, where future Randy became Ninja Guardian. But I couldn't find it on fanfiction.net any more. Has anyone read it? I didn't dream about it, right?)

Day 19: During that time I got even crazier after I read Enter the Nomicon. It's hard to believe I had a crazy period of shipping Randicon, even for myself. Especially weird for me since I now have a completely different view about Nomicon (peek at my Yokai Ninja AU comics). Time really can change a person, wow.

Day 21: Yes, a whole page just for this headcanon. I used the screenshots in the show because it's too hard to draw. The barrier thing is kinda like the one that held Bill's power in the range of Gravity Falls.

Day 23: Danny: the Walking Air-Conditioner. Inspired by a chapter of Secret Quartet. Danny phased his hand through the scarf. Just imagine your friend put a cold hand inside your scarf in winter. *shiver*

Day 25: Besides Ninja vine ball, there are also spike ball, gas ball, sonic ball, rainbow illusion ball, tear ball and so on. I just pick the most common one from my ninja balls headcanons to put in here.

Day 27: You may see I prefer using numbers to refer episodes, because that's how I track and rewatch them. To be more specific, I list some keywords here: NomiRandy, First Ninja, Debbie, Tengu. As fellow RC9GN Fans I'm sure you get it.

Day 30: It's a half-baked AU thing. The flowers I tried to draw are rosemary?

Gen When Luna’s mom dies she goes to the burrow to tell the Weasley’s her family won’t be coming over for dinner after all and Percy walks her home. I really liked this. Percy’s reactions to a 9 year old Luna trying to weave around saying outright that her mom is dead was really good.

I had to shorten a few to make them snappy, so here's some clarification!

Parent Generation: Bill, Lucrezia, and Klaus's generation. Includes Barry, Aaronev, etc.

Near-Modern AU: a recent history AU (e.g. an eighties AU) that is lacking in canon fantasy elements... or a modern AU with non-canon fantastical elements, like an urban fantasy. (Or you can just stick with a real world modern AU! There's plenty of interesting work to be done there, too.)

Fighting Girls Tea and Cake Society: the canon nickname for Zeetha, Violetta, and Bang as a trio

Kid Fic: Could be a flashback to when they were kids. Could be de-aging. Could be about their children, a few years into the future. Go nuts.

Foreign Rulers: Albia, Voltaire, Zantabraxus, and so on. If they aren't inside Wulfenbach territory, they count.

Genre AU: Doing a genre fiction story about canon. GG covers plenty of genres in a mix, but a Genre AU would be dedicated to one specific genre that isn't GG's main. For instance, if you wanted to do a film noir AU, you could do a standard film noir setting with GG characters, or you could do something more like the Ivo Sharktooth comic.

Cheesecake/Beefcake: Cheesecake is pin-up style sexy ladies. Beefcake is pin-up style sexy dudes. Phil draws a lot of these, so the prompts are in honor of that. If you aren’t in the mood to draw or write something relating to sexy people, then we also have the option of literal cake.

To be immortal is to be oppressed, as Atsushi has learned for his a thousand years on Earth. Once people learn that he cannot die, he becomes something other than human. Not greater than, certainly. If they think he is a god, then he wouldn’t be treated as he is. He wouldn’t be used as a sword and shield, an experiment, or an animal. They wouldn’t dare hunt him down as an escaped prisoner or wild game.

He’s lucky to not have experienced the world alone. Centuries ago, he was speared through the gut by a man whose hair was black except for the white edges during the Goguryeo-Wei War. When the man’s back was turned under the assumption that Atsushi would remain dead on the ground, Atsushi returned the favor with all the vigor he could manage. He watched the man’s life begin to fade from his eyes.

Atsushi turned to continue fighting and no sooner did he feel a cool blade pierce his heart.

The resentment he experienced from the pain soon faded into disbelief, and then relief when he made the connection that he was not alone in his heavenless immortality. However, they were still on opposite sides of the war. Proper communication didn’t start until long after the fighting had ended, and even then, their encounters weren’t exactly friendly. Each conversation was short and usually ended with one or the other limping home with a new, permanent scar that could only be inflicted, as they learned, from a fellow immortal.

The exact date on which Atsushi’s luck turned around is lost to him. Time became inscrutable as his bondage was passed from one clan to the next. At one point or another, the mysterious, volatile man stopped trying to fight him at every move. Their conversations lasted longer, and Atsushi was finally able to glean his family name.

“Akutagawa,” he’d muttered. They were standing in a small valley tucked between two looming mountains, just outside of a neutral village. The villagers were in the midst of sacrificing cattle to whichever deity they believed in. Atsushi had stopped caring long ago. He found no deity he could put his faith in besides himself.

“Akutagawa,” Atsushi repeated, testing the name out on his tongue. It rolled off easier than his war-born alias Rashoumon. “Is that your given name?”

Akutagawa assessed him with a critical gaze, his expression betraying little other than mistrust. “I don’t want to hear my name from your mouth.”

It wasn’t said in vain bitterness, but rather with plain indifference. Atsushi refused to take it as a personal attack, no matter how hard his heart screamed in agony at the statement. He redirected his disappointment to an alternative interpretation: an opening for change. Akutagawa didn’t trust him yet, but in the future, he would tell Atsushi the name that only belonged to him.

Presently, Atsushi whispers Ryuunosuke’s name under his breath over and over again as a prayer. Akutagawa is no more a god than Atsushi, but after searching every corner of the world, he’s become the only deity Atsushi wants to pray to.

“Who is this Ree-you-eno-see-key? Who do you condemn?” The English noble grabbed his face, nearly spitting in his eye with his demand. Atsushi shut his mouth and closed his eyes, unwilling to look the white man in the face.

Traveling the world was an idea they developed after participating in various other conflicts in the homeland. The assassinations, wars, and petty squabbles never seemed to end, and they couldn’t escape it within the island. After spending some time in a bustling harbor, Akutagawa studied as an apprentice under a maritime craftsman and built a compatible ship for two immortals with no destination in mind. They abandoned their posts overnight, and they drifted across the sea until they reached the Han Dynasty.

From there, they traveled inwards, living decades in one place before moving on to the next. Bloodshed followed their footsteps — war was never more than a hairwidth away. The need to fight after spending so many years on the island toiling away under clan flags raged within them, and before war could tear them apart again, they fled.

That was how they found themselves in Engla Land during the Crusades, a unique religious war that didn’t take kindly to the likes of Akutagawa and Atsushi. While the war wasn’t being fought on English soil, it brought a heightened religious fervor to the home country.

They’ve never been in a predicament quite like this.

People were quick to bond and use them for their desires, but none had expressed disgust at their existence. Atsushi wasn’t revered, but he wasn’t an object of hatred and heresy. The Christians think differently. Immortality, for people that did not look, act, or dress as they do, is a sort of crime in their religion. There is only one deity, and for any human to be immortal is to claim deity status, which is then an attack on their god.

Or something like that. Atsushi hasn’t had enough time to become fluent in the native language, nor understand the intricacies of their religion.

The noble lets go of his face when he sees that his attempts at gaining information are getting nowhere. Atsushi blinks his eyes open and tries to move, but the heavy metal box he’s been shoved in and the nails keeping his hands and feet together prevent any significant movement. He could rip them out, technically, but his energy is depleted. Hours of torture have led to a slow heart and fuzzy brain.

When the noble steps away to command his cell to be sealed, Atsushi scans the crowd once more. Nobles, knights. and peasants alike are gathered at the edge of the harbor to watch the heretic drown for his sins. Public executions are supposed to be exemplary, but Atsushi is only aware of one person who could possibly head the warning the Crown is sending.

Finally, just before the door shuts on Atsushi, he finds Ryuuonsuke at the very back of the crowd, hidden in the shadow of a market building. His eyes barely meet Atsushi’s, and from so far away, it’s impossible to tell what his expression is made out to be.

The knights had stormed their home, they had not taken Akutagawa. They only recognized Atsushi, and as such, Atsushi made a quick agreement with Ryuunosuke that he would not reveal himself and resign himself to the same fate Atsushi was given. Akutagawa only relented under the pretense that he was allowed to rescue Atsushi, or that Atsushi had to get himself out promptly.

If it had been down to Akutagawa, he would have killed everyone right then and there. Atsushi knows this because he knows his partner better than he knows the back of his own hand.

But, a century ago, Atsushi proposed that they cannot kill for a millennium. They have killed too many innocents, Akutagawa more than Atsushi. It is within their duties as stronger beings to refrain from massacring the weak.

Ryuunsouke made a blood contract with Atsushi on this deal, and thus far, it has not been broken.

Since they didn’t understand their native language, the knights were blissfully unaware of the compromise. They didn’t know that the two beings they withheld had been fighting for a hundred generations before their time, since before their country had even formed what it is today.

The door shuts on Atsushi, cutting him off from the crowd and Akutagawa, and the only light he can see filters through the small holes cut for air and water alike. It takes a great deal of effort for the knights to lug him on the ship waiting behind them. It would be funny if he were not dreading the fate that was about to await him, and he has yet to puzzle a way to escape his captivity.

Shouts trail as the ship leaves the harbor, and their voices eventually fade to the calls of the English sailors, knights, and the rock of the wooden ship. An anchor is attached to the metal box.

Then, after an amount of pushing and pulling, he falls overboard and sinks into the depths of the tumultuous ocean. The anchor keeps pulling him down, down, and down while the salty water seeps into his cell from the peepholes.

Immortals cannot be killed, but if one wanted to try their damn best, they would do it like this. By the time the box reaches the bottom of the floor, he has already drowned three times. His nostrils fill with water and his lungs collapse under the lack of air until it brings him to the brink of death. His organs then heal, but with his environment unchanging and the constrained space, he cycles back into the same death. His attempts at beating the box until it breaks don’t work. He eventually gets his hands and feet free of the nails, but the water keeps him from having any force behind his fists.

His only reliance is on Ryuunosuke. Atsushi whispers his name under the dark sea, with salt water burning his eyes and the thick metal box restraining him to never-ending death.

In the year 2016, dozens of miles off the coast of Southampton, England, a group of five researchers dives into the Atlantic Ocean to examine the local sea life of both plants and animals. They swim along the sea floor and slowly make their rounds, taking pictures and mental notes while simultaneously enjoying the quiet sounds of the gentle rush of water around them.

Fish pass by the feet, some curious but most avoiding the humans. They laugh, and though two of them have been deep-diving for over a decade, they can never get past the bliss of the nature that surrounds them.

One researcher spots a shine from the corner of her eye after taking a picture of the pod of dolphins swimming adjacent to them. They appear healthy, she notes, with no visible signs of prevailing illness or starvation. She turns and presses her hand against the shine, soon recognizing that she’s touching metal. Quickly, she sweeps aside the rocks and sand. More metal greets her.

Waving over the two nearby researchers and signaling for help, they begin to earnestly uncover the unknown object. She thinks it could be a lost missile or cannonball, both of which would be hard to carry alone, but if they all worked together, they may be able to bring it to the waiting boat. As they continue to uncover the metal, however, she starts to think otherwise.

It’s much too big to be even a missile, and what they manage to uncover appears to be an old door. After receiving an affirmative signal from the rest of her team — all of whom eventually drifted together to work on the object — she reaches for the lock and worked on breaking it away. Since it’s long rusted, it gives way after a few harsh tugs. She holds the lock as two other researchers heave the door open.

Her guesses as to what lay inside throughout the process of unveiling the door evolved into golden treasures, weapons, or even a rotted corpse. She wasn’t particularly fond of the last one, but it was always a possibility.

Only one thing rests behind the old metal door. Her stomach twisted inside out as she met the purple-orange-hued eyes of an alive boy.

His skin is pale, nearly translucent, and his mouth is gaping open while his chest heaves for anything other than the water it desperately expels. She isn’t the first to act; three other researchers grab a hold of the boy and immediately break away to the surface. She knows they aren’t going to get him up there in time before he drowns, but that doesn’t stop them from trying.

What flops onto the team’s boat isn’t exactly human.

His eyes glow with unnatural light, not to mention the strange colorings, The fact that he survived the journey up to the surface points is logically impossible. He coughs out the water in his lungs and hugs their only towels close to his body. His limbs shake, but he doesn’t seem emaciated from hunger or thirst. His skin is clear of pruning, and he stares at the lead researcher with a ferocity unlike anything she’s ever seen before.

He doesn’t speak the same language as her. If she were to guess, it sounds like a mixture of Latin and Japanese, the latter of which the boy is ethnically from. At their incomprehension, the boy closes his mouth, then reopens it to say one name only.

“Akutagawa Ryuunosuke.”

Fake Fic Summaries 30/?, the Gotta Complete The Set edition (2023-02-27)

The Theories of Uncertain Presents

Naruto knows that one day he’ll go back home and reunite with his teammates, the only family he’s ever had, but until then he’ll try to find himself.

Literally.

He probably shouldn’t have done shadow clone jutsu so close to an unfamiliar seal.

Okay, I felt like I was dogging on Naruto in the bleak primadonna AU and I’ve been reading a lot of DoS fic which, understandably, focuses more on Shikako and Sasuke doing ANBU shenanigans — more specifically the In a Definite Place at a Definite Time ‘verse and all of it’s spin offs/permutations/inspired by, etc. In which Shikako and Sasuke end up in Warring Clans Era and sort of complicate and encourage peace between the Uchiha and Senju depending on which fics you read, lol.

In particular, I read The Results of Non-Future’s Past by Aryia_Lexi_Sevorus which is where the title of this fake fic comes from, and which resolves the time travel issue with Shikako reverse engineering the memory sharing aspect of the shadow clone jutsu such that there are two version of Sasuke and Shikako, one who stay in the past, and one who receive their memories and don’t set off the seal to begin with. Aryia_Lexi_Sevorus’ fic is about Kakashi joining them. It’s very heartwarming.

But then my brain went… HOW DOES NARUTO JOIN THEM? Because how sad would it be for the Lucky Sevens to only be partially complete T_T

On the one hand, of course it would be LOGICAL if it just occurred when he returns after his training trip and did what Kakashi did to join them, but that’s SO LONG and it’s not like Naruto doesn’t ALSO encounter strange things when he’s on his own, and it WAS an Uzumaki seal plus shadow clones (his specialty) that sends the others’ memories back.

So what if he did it in reverse? (Konoha’s #1 most unpredictable ninja, lol)

As in, Naruto is out training somewhere (maybe Jiraiya’s busy doing spymaster stuff or he’s just being irresponsible, who knows) but he does shadow clone—as per usual when he’s solo training—in a place he shouldn’t ie where there is a similar Uzumaki time travel seal. But instead of making a shadow clone, he makes Schroedinger’s copies of himself one for the present and one for the past. Both of them are the real him because both of them are also the shadow clone. This is basically Everything, Everywhere, All At Once rules: either all of them are real or none of them are real, there’s no “truer” versions of yourself. But we’re dealing with two anyways… although the EEAAT comparison may come back up again.

Anyways, we would follow travelled-to-the-past!Naruto’s POV to the Warring Clans Era where he maybe even encounters the Uzumaki who made the original seal. And, weirdly enough, I almost feel like—in a similar way that his method to get there is opposite to the others—he doesn’t have that many problems integrating with the Uzumaki, and once he figures out what’s happening he just straight up tells the Uzumaki the truth.

And they believe him. Because they’re the Uzumaki. (And, also, if the person making the seal was there then they have an idea of what it could do. In addition, there’s probably a chakra sensor who can absolutely confirm that Naruto is in fact an Uzumaki. And thirdly, even if the Kyuubi chakra freaks them out, I’m assuming the jinchuuriki is Mito’s seal, and I feel like the Uzumaki would recognize her handiwork)

He’s an Uzumaki who gets to discover what the Uzumaki were like! He gets to discover family! He has a clan! All of my Uzushio Feels™!

So it’s more of a “discovering his heritage” fic than a “high stakes undercover don’t mess up the timeline” thing that his teammates are going through, but that’s kind of what the Uzumaki are like. Also, it would be funny if it’s happening at the same time as Sasuke and Shikako’s situation, which would explain where the heck Mito is the whole time considering I think she’s mentioned to already be married to Hashirama but is very rarely in any of the various fic. Like, she went back to Uzushio for a quick errand and then Naruto showed up. They might assume that Naruto is Mito’s descendant anyway considering 1) he doesn’t know his parents’ names, only that he is an Uzumaki from Konoha and 2) the jinchuuriki seal on his belly is probably her style

She’ll go back once she figures out this new Uzumaki situation and lets him enjoy being an Uzumaki in Uzushio.

And at some point Mito is like… I’m going to bring my new little brother to Konoha and Team Seven just does the Spiderman pointing meme before group hugging, absolutely baffling everyone else witnessing. Well, probably not Mito, because she already knows he’s from the future. Although I suppose she’d be baffled by the fact that his teammates are also back in time.

To prevent it from being ENTIRELY fluff, I would probably throw in the fact that, since his situation is extremely different from Sasuke and Shikako, that each time he does shadow clone in either the Warring Clans Era or the Present both versions of him get the memory feedback. So if WCE!Naruto does a shadow clone, both WCE!Naruto AND Present!Naruto will received that shadow clone’s memories—because, again, both are the real Naruto. Which means, eventually, this will be very useful for information passing back and forth once he gets back to Konoha and can confer with his teammates, but for right now if probably very bewildering and alarming. Especially for Present!Naruto who is just getting hit with memories of time traveling and meeting other Uzumaki?

Although, now that I’ve typed it out, obviously that means Present!Naruto can send information back to WCE!Naruto. And obviously Present!Naruto will tell Jiraiya what’s happening, so at some point Jiraiya’s gotta confess that he’s known who Naruto’s parents are the whole time and I guess what I’m saying is—again, in a similarly everything is opposite of his teammates—Naruto’s drama/stress happens in the present not the WCE.

I mostly just wanted Naruto to be included in the time traveling thing and also the Spiderman pointing meme with Team Seven, lol.

Tag 24. 27.07.2023

Fuji-Vorbereitung. Heute standen wir früh auf, um den 07:57 Uhr Zug von Tokyo nach Mishima zu schaffen. Wir fuhren mit dem sogenannten Shinkansen Zug, der 320km/h schnell fährt und weltweit als “Bullet Train” bekannt ist. In Mishima stiegen wir in einen Regionalzug um und erreichten gegen 10:00 Uhr Gotemba, eine niedliche Stadt im Vorland des Fuji Berges (3.776M hoch, Japans höchster Gipfel). Im Hotel angekommen stellten wir unser Gepäck ab, packten für einen Tagesausflug an eines der fünf Seen rund um Fuji und liefen zur Bäckerei.

Die Bäckerei war gigantisch, wir aßen zum ersten Mal in Asien richtige Croissants, Baguettes und Brot. Im Anschluss ging’s zur Touristeninfo, wo wir einige Fragen i.B.a. den Fuji-Riesen hatten. Ganz zufällig fragte Wilson, ob eines der Hütten noch zwei Plätze für den 28.07 auf den 29.07 frei hätte, denn eine Eintageswanderung von unten nach oben, v.a. mit möglichem Aufkommen von Höhenkrankheit, wäre grenzwertig gefährlich. Der Mann an der Info rief netterweise in verschiedenen Hütten an. Die (meisten) Hütten nehmen nämlich nur per Telefon und auf japanisch Reservierungen an, zudem kommt der von der Pandemie verursachte Rückstand japanischer Touristen, die den Riesen besteigen wollen. Zu unserer Überraschung waren 2 Betten auf der 5. Hütte frei, es änderten sich also unsere Pläne - keine Seentour.

Wir fuhren direkt zur Outlet-Mall, wo wir zwei paar Wanderschuhe kauften (Turnschuhe sind natürlich ungeeignet, zudem brauchte Webster neue Wanderschuhe und Wilsons Schuhe hat derzeit Wenzel) und einen neuen Wanderrucksack (Webster braucht auch einen neuen, seiner hat schon etliches durch und wird bald in Rente gehen). Wir kauften auch zwei billige Kopflampen, am 29.07 stehen wir nämlich um 01:30 Uhr auf, um den Sonnenaufgang ganz oben mitzuerleben. Wir fuhren dann gegen 16:30 Uhr wieder mit dem kostenlosen Shuttle-Bus in die Innenstadt Gotembas zurück, schauten im Supermarkt vorbei und besuchten erneut die Bäckerei, wo wir zwei Baguettes für den Bergsteig kauften und eine kleine Tüte Nussbrot geschenkt bekamen - sehr nett.

Im Hotel ruhten wir uns aus, schauten Ricky Gervais auf YouTube, lasen die Nachrichten und lagen 20 Minuten im Halbschlaf. Daraufhin gabs im Hotel Abendessen, Reis mit Rindfleischsoße - eine kostenlose Mahlzeit, die gut schmeckte und satt machte. Schließlich packten wir, schmierten unsere Brote und gingen in die Hotelsauna (Japanese Bath - könnt ihr gerne recherchieren). Morgen gehts wieder früh los, um 07:35 Uhr fährt der Bus von Gotemba Richtung Fuji Talstation. Aufregend!

Day 24. July 27, 2023

Fuji Preparation. Today, we got up early to catch the 07:57 am train from Tokyo to Mishima. We traveled on the so-called Shinkansen train, which runs at a speed of 320 km/h and is globally known as the "Bullet Train." In Mishima, we changed to a regional train and reached Gotemba around 10:00 am, a charming town in the foothills of Mount Fuji (3,776 meters high, Japan's highest peak). Upon arriving at the hotel, we dropped off our luggage, prepared for a day trip to one of the five lakes around Fuji, and walked to the bakery.

The bakery was brilliant, and we had proper croissants, baguettes, and bread for the first time in Asia. After that, we went to the tourist information center, where we had some questions about Mount Fuji. By chance, Wilson asked if any of the mountain huts had two available spots for the night of July 28th to 29th because attempting a one-day hike from the bottom to the top, especially with the risk of altitude sickness, would be dangerously challenging. The man at the info center kindly made calls to different huts. Most of them only accept reservations over the phone and in Japanese, plus there's a backlog of Japanese tourists wanting to climb the mountain due to the pandemic. To our surprise, there were two available beds at the 5th hut, so our plans changed - no lake tour.

We went straight to the outlet mall, where we bought two pairs of hiking boots (sneakers are, of course, unsuitable, and Webster needed new hiking boots while Wilson's shoes are currently worn out). We also purchased a new hiking backpack (Webster needs one too, as his has been through a lot and will soon retire). Additionally, we bought two cheap headlamps since on the 29th of July, we'll be getting up at 01:30 am to witness the sunrise from the top. Around 4:30 pm, we took the complimentary shuttle bus back to downtown Gotemba, stopped by the supermarket, and revisited the bakery, where we purchased two baguettes for the ascent and received a small bag of walnut bread as a gift - very kind.

We rested in the hotel, watched Ricky Gervais on YouTube, read the news, and dozed off for about 20 minutes. Afterward, we had dinner at the hotel, rice with beef sauce - a complimentary meal that tasted good and filled us up. Finally, we packed up, prepared our lunchboxes and went to the hotel sauna (Japanese Bath - you can research more about it if you like). Tomorrow, we'll be starting early again; the bus from Gotemba to the Fuji Talstation departs at 07:35 am. Exciting!

Canada Braces for Another Season of Flames (NYT) Canada’s emergency preparedness minister is warning that this year’s wildfire season will be worse than the record-breaking season of 2023, when thousands of fires burned tens of millions of acres and set off massive plumes of smoke that enveloped major U.S. cities, including New York and Washington. This year’s fires could be especially bad in two of the country’s most fire-prone provinces, where nearly 150 of the blazes that started during last year’s season are still burning this winter, under snow-covered ground. While so-called “zombie fires,” a term recently popularized in the Canadian media, are an annual phenomenon in parts of the country, never have so many fires been reported in a single winter, raising fears that many of them may flare up again above ground. The “zombie fires” persist during winter because porous peat and moss ground cover in northern areas act as underground fuel for them.

The ZIP Code Shift: Many Americans No Longer Live Where They Work (NYT) In 2020, Virginia Martin lived two and a half miles from her office. Today, the distance between her work and home is 156. Ms. Martin, 37, used to live in Durham, N.C., and drove about 10 minutes to her job as a librarian at Duke. After the onset of remote work, Ms. Martin got her boss’s blessing to return to her hometown, Richmond, Va., in March 2022, so she could raise her two young children with help from family. As an ‘80s-born “child of AIM,” Ms. Martin said of AOL instant messaging, it hadn’t been hard for her to maintain co-worker friendships online. She drives back to the office several times a year for events. Ms. Martin is part of today’s growing ZIP code shift: She is one of the millions of Americans who, thanks to remote and hybrid work, no longer lives close to where she works. Many Americans now live roughly twice as far from their offices as they did prepandemic. Economists studied employee and employer address data from nearly 6,000 employers across the country and found that the average distance between people’s homes and workplaces rose to 27 miles in 2023 from 10 miles in 2019, more than doubling.

Miami Beach is breaking up with spring break—or at least trying to (AP) Miami Beach is trying to break up with spring break, but it’s not yet clear whether spring break will take the hint. After three consecutive years of spring break violence, Miami Beach officials are implementing monthlong security measures aimed at curbing the chaos, including parking restrictions for non-residents and closing sidewalk cafes on busy weekends. The city has warned visitors to expect curfews, bag searches at the beach, early beach closures, DUI checkpoints, and arrests for drug possession and violence. Many of the city’s restrictions aren’t new, but in past years, they were instituted as emergency measures during the unofficial holiday—not measures put in place ahead of time.

Continued Chaos in Haiti (Foreign Policy) Armed gangs tried to take control of Toussaint Louverture International Airport in Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince, on Monday during a coordinated attack on interim Prime Minister Ariel Henry’s rule. Henry traveled to Nairobi last week to sign off on a Kenyan-led multinational police force to tackle rising violence in the Caribbean nation. Henry’s current whereabouts are unknown, but he is believed to be somewhere abroad. The caretaker leader took power in July 2021 after then-President Jovenel Moïse’s assassination and has repeatedly delayed national elections. Ex-coup leader Guy Philippe, who was sentenced to nine years in a U.S. prison for money-laundering, announced plans to install himself as the leader of a new transitional government, a Haitian newspaper published on Tuesday. Gang leader Jimmy “Barbecue” Chérizier has also asserted power in recent days, leading a planned assault over the weekend that freed around 3,700 inmates at two major Haitian prisons and forced Henry to declare a 72-hour state of emergency on Sunday.

The Leaky Luftwaffe (Politico) The Kremlin has scored a major information victory over Germany, leaking calls between top-level German air force leaders about Western operations in Ukraine, including scrapped plans to send long-range Taurus cruise missiles to help Ukraine, and the presence of British soldiers “on the ground” in Ukraine. The recordings, leaked by state media outlet RT, involved German Air Force Chief Ingo Gerhartz and Brigadier General Frank Gräfe discussing whether the Taurus missiles have the range to hit the land bridge connecting Russian-occupied Crimea and mainland Russia. Gerhartz also says, “I know how the English do it, they do it completely in reachback,” adding, “They also have a few people on the ground, they do that, the French don’t.” In response to the recordings, the Kremlin summoned Germany’s ambassador to Russia for a nice reprimanding session. While Western leaders have accused Moscow of waging an “information war,” the U.K. confirmed that a “small number of personnel” were operating on the ground in Ukraine.

Explosion at rail bridge deep inside Russia shows Ukraine’s reach (Washington Post) Ukraine hinted Monday that its agents were responsible for an explosion on a Russian railway bridge used to transport ammunition, in what appears to be the latest successful operation targeting infrastructure deep behind enemy lines as Ukrainian forces struggle against advancing Russian troops. Ukraine’s military intelligence agency, the GUR, said Monday that the explosion on the railway bridge in Russia’s Samara region—about 650 miles from the Ukrainian border—occurred about 6 a.m. local time. The GUR did not directly assert responsibility for the attack, but this wouldn’t be the first time Ukraine’s security services have targeted military rail routes in Russia. The Security Service of Ukraine, or SBU, was responsible for December explosions on railway links between Russia and North Korea in the Buryatia region, about 3,750 miles east of Ukraine, according to Ukrainian intelligence officials.

China drops ‘peaceful reunification’ reference to Taiwan (Reuters) China will boost its defence spending by 7.2% this year, fuelling a military budget that has more than doubled under President Xi Jinping’s 11 years in office as Beijing hardens its stance on Taiwan, according to official reports on Tuesday. China also officially adopted tougher language against Taiwan as it released the budget figures, dropping the mention of “peaceful reunification” in a government report delivered by Premier Li Qiang at the opening of the National People’s Congress (NPC), China’s rubber-stamp parliament, on Tuesday. Li Mingjiang, a defence scholar at the Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) in Singapore, said that despite China’s struggling economy, Taiwan is a major consideration in Beijing’s defence spending. “China is showing that in the coming decade it wants to grow its military to the point where it is prepared to win a war if it has no choice but to fight one,” Li said.

Maritime clashes (Foreign Policy) Chinese vessels blocked and then collided with Philippine coast guard ships off the disputed Second Thomas Shoal in the South China Sea on Tuesday, injuring four Philippine crew members. The Philippines accused China of trying to “illegally impede or obstruct a routine resupply and rotation mission.” It demanded China leave the maritime territory immediately and summoned a top Chinese diplomat to Manila, the Philippine capital, to protest Beijing’s “aggressive” actions. China accused the Philippines’ ships of illegally intruding into Chinese waters. Both China and the Philippines lay claim to the Second Thomas Shoal. In 2016, the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague ruled that Beijing’s territorial assertions in the shoal have no legal basis, a decision that China rejects. Since then, Beijing has repeatedly sought to demonstrate its presence around the Second Thomas Shoal as well as another contested shoal.

Gaza War Is Shifting Ties Between Secular and Ultra-Orthodox Israelis (NYT) In a neighborhood of Jerusalem, ultra-Orthodox Jewish residents cheered a soldier returning from military service. At a religious seminary, similarly devout students gathered to hear an officer talk about his military duties. And at a synagogue attended by some of the most observant Jews in the country, members devoted a Torah scroll in memory of a soldier slain in Gaza. The Hamas-led attack on Israel last October has prompted flashes of greater solidarity between sections of Israel’s ultra-Orthodox Jewish minority and the secular mainstream, as fears of a shared threat have accelerated the integration of some of Israel’s most insular citizens. As Israel’s war in Gaza drags on and Israeli reservists are called to serve elongated or additional tours of duty, long-simmering divisions about military exemptions for the country’s most religious Jews are again at the center of a national debate. But now, in the wake of the deadliest day of attacks on Jews since the Holocaust, parts of Israel’s rapidly growing community of ultra-Orthodox Jews, known in Hebrew as Haredim, are reconsidering their role in the nation’s fabric. Unusually high numbers have expressed support for or interest in military service, even as the vast majority of Haredim still hope to retain their exemption.

They point to Israel’s limiting of land entry points for aid; an onerous and confusing Israeli inspection process; faulty deconfliction channels between aid groups and Israel’s military; Israeli efforts to undermine the United Nations; and its military’s recent targeting of Gazan police who once protected aid missions.

3 Red Sea data cables cut as Houthis launch more attacks in the vital waterway (AP) Three cables under the Red Sea that provide global internet and telecommunications have been cut as the waterway remains a target of Yemen’s Houthi rebels, officials said Monday. Meanwhile, a Houthi missile attack set a ship ablaze in the Gulf of Aden, but caused no injuries. What cut the lines remains unclear. There has been concern about the cables being targeted in the Houthi campaign, which the rebels describe as an effort to pressure Israel to end its war on Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The Houthis have denied attacking the lines, however. While global shipping has already been disrupted through the Red Sea, a crucial route for cargo and energy shipments from Asia and the Middle East to Europe, the sabotage of telecommunication lines could further escalate the monthslong crisis.

An online protest movement exposes corruption in Uganda (AP) Abuse of public funds. Failing hospitals. Potholes in the streets of Kampala, the capital of Uganda. These and other issues feature in an online protest campaign that is rattling government officials and others in this East African country where street protests are practically outlawed—and where corruption is widespread and often deadly. The campaign has been trending on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter. It relies on leaks of official documents and has been cast as an “exhibition”—in a sequence of postings—about controversial issues. The latest posts, about Uganda’s National Assembly, purport to reveal details about abuse of public resources, nepotism in staff recruitment and even collusion between civil servants and lawmakers on oversight committees. The government of President Yoweri Museveni, who has held power in Uganda since 1986, has long been accused of shielding corrupt but influential officials from criminal prosecution.
