Pattern of L’s and N’s circle of friends

“9) N and N friend group posts including JD – I will post this analysis separately of a pattern that I’m seeing. Pattern is the posts from her side coincided with posts on his side (as in they happen in a specific cluster of days). Almost as if N knows something from his side will be posted and she a) has to distract herself b) distract the fans so that whatever L posts don’t get that much of a backlash c) has to send a secret message to L that she’s doing fine and she’s still 💯 in”

I think part of her secret code to L is as long as she’s wearing her claddagh ring, she’s still in. Even if she bought the ring herself to celebrate S3 success, I doubt that she will wear it all the time if it gives her bittersweet memories – I think she wears it to hold on to loving memories from Ireland. I don’t know what L’s secret code is - I think it’s as long as he’s on lifeguard duty, he’s still in 😂

I’m sure there are loads that I missed. I kept the IG posts from N to Bridgerton unless it’s really newsworthy or quite anticipated by fans. These are just from the pap walk onwards. I also included some posts from outside sources because of speculations that they might be coming from their team to further the goal that they are working on. Which makes me think (and this is going to be an unpopular opinion) that N may have a hand on DM posts of her and JD (me: hides behind a door).

I might really be reaching here -- deep in my delulu seeing patterns when they don’t exist – but listed out like this almost seems like there is a back and forth between their groups and what gets out publicly.

Okay anon, who wanted to be convinced about Loofmar *cracks fingers* ekhem, this will be longish 🕵️‍♀️

Am I 100% sure they’re dating? No. But tbh it took me a while to believe o and n were dating. But like i said before, cause that was me as well, when there’s smoke there’s fire. And listen, there is that possibility that they’re just casual fuck buddies, ofc. They both belong to that „incestuous” group of friends haha

If you look at Omar’s IG this year (posts, not stories, although it stays true for stories as well i think), he doesn’t post his friends. At all. We don’t count Edvin because he’s been posted either as a part of YR or OMR. And even his last year’s posts – the only posts unrelated to projects were his own selfies. And his mom. Once. I checked lmao. 2022? Nothing, except 2 vacation posts with n (who used to be in those vacay pictures but they’re deleted now). Maybe some friends posts in these years were there before, but if so, they’ve been deleted as well which means Omar changed his posting habits and just doesn’t share the kind of stuff he used to (and omg the yesterday’s archive account show us what we lost 😭).

So why all of a sudden he decided to share 3 work-unrelated posts from his vacation, that included photos that were questionable? Posting the photo of him leaning on Simon with double hearts on his story as if to put emphasis on this photo which btw was not the first one in the post so that was not automatic. And then the spainmar tiktok with a glimpse of Simon? FOR WHAT PURPOSE, if not to soft launch. He’s not stupid, he knows all this would be questioned and investigated by fans. He admitted to watching people’s reactions on twitter. So why? For promotion? It’s not like he posted photos with Shawn Mendes lol, Simon is just a random person for his international fans. Simon, whose social media presence at the moment is super rare. Why would Omar randomly shone a light on him?

Think about how we have like 5 pics in total of Omar and Simon being in the same photo/video from 2020 to 2023, and now all of a sudden we have so many this year? Those black and white photos on the bed from someone’s birthday in April. The parade. I know Hugo was apparently there as well, but still. And the family picnic with loofs (hugo was also there, which makes me think he’s dating hilda maybe?). and the concert with loofs (and hugo, which again, hilda?). that Pedro person birthday from a few weeks ago. the selfie at the concert with a third-wheeling hilda. I know omar has some bold photos with many of his friends, but why this particular one was posted and deleted because it belonged to his private account? Simon at grona concert, which on its own no big deal, but that’s my entire point – on their own, none of these things are much/convincing. It’s when you put them together, when you see the patterns change, when you connect the dots. C o m e o n. Has omar EVER said „hey, i have a bf, this is n?”. no! And he won’t say anything directly now either.

Which brings us to the last thing, the nail to the coffen: the stolen man tiktok. Let’s recap. 1. Omar’s not stupid and knows his fans are little detectives 2. Omar doesn’t say relationship stuff directly 3. Omar doesn’t post his friends outside of work (Sabotage TT was an exception) 4. Simon's kinda lowkey so Omar implying a relationship of any kind for shit and giggles makes no sense. So we take all that and still think that Omar went to Simon on a random day, in between formal events, radio interviews and Zoom interviews, in the same clothes, just to shoot a TikTok with him, shirtless, with a bag on his head, in his flat, playing the role of his „stolen man”. Sure :)

At the end of the day, it’s not that deep and this analysis is just in good fun because I'm bored 😎 If they’re not together, omar seems super content and that’s what matters

That must be my longest anon ever 😍 love it. I know a lot will just think tldr, but it's a nice long little recap of what happened over last few months.

And the last paragraph- whatever is or isn't going on, I just hope they're both happy. We're not seeing much of Simon but Omar looks super happy, so that's the most important thing 🙂‍↕️

We took our Carol trip!

December 10, 2023, my good friend Sarah and I piled in my small Kia and made the 1 hr 40 min trip from Indianapolis, IN to see Cincinnati and Chevoit, Ohio shooting locations from 2015's "Carol." It's the only winter movie that matters to me. Here are some of the key locations we visited.

Shillito Center and art deco exteriors in Cincinnati.

Shillito Center was a department store with art deco features including the beautiful clock pictured above. This was the exterior of Frankenberg's in the film. The Shillito's department store has closed but the beautiful building has been turned into luxury loft apartments!

The other buildings of note were the Bell Telephone Company's "Cincinnati Bell" building--my friend noticed that the decorative border on the building is comprised of a stone pattern of old rotary telephones! The exterior of the now-Hilton Cincinnati is another Carol shooting site, which doubled as New York City's Drake hotel.

This is the exquisite Hilton Cincinnati at Netherland Plaza. As you can see, the art deco influence is strong and the rooms are gorgeous and grand. We were hungry and wanted to have lunch but the only available menu was the Dickens breakfast buffet, priced at a formidable $89! So we enjoyed a drink and a bowl of peanuts at the bar. A quartet of professional singers in Victorian costumes sang Christmas Carols beautifully in the background. The bartender was dressed like they used to dress, in a beautiful tailored slacks, shirt, and vest uniform. He did not work at the Hilton in 2014-2015 but was delighted by our quest. The entryway to the hotel is known as the "Hall of Mirrors," inspired by Versailles.

This is the stone bathroom structure at Eden Park, which was the setting for the Christmas tree farm impromptu photography session. My friend watched Carol to prepare (she called it "fun homework") and I prepared by finding a tam o shanter hat at a thrift store. My parents had the scarf, blonde fur coat, faux fur hat, as part of their repository of items from doing over 25 years of community theater together. The rest of my clothing items are a regular part of my wardrobe. I vacillate between eras but I love 40s, 50s, and 60s best of all. I also think it's likely they filmed the scene of Therese and Richard on bicycle going through a park at Eden Park as well, but can't be totally sure.

Finally, Maury's Tiny Cove Restaurant in Chevoit, Cincinnati is the setting of the first lunch between Carol and Therese. The booth they used for shooting has been preserved and I reserved it ahead of time, although surrounding booths also have pictures from filming hanging over them. It's been long enough that the server didn't know much about the film but told us that a group of excited college students ate there once and requested the same meal Carol and Therese ordered in the movie. I had lasagna as we had not eaten much all day, and a Santa Cosmopolitan from their holiday menu. The food was wonderful and it was obvious a lot of people are regulars. We noted that there are glass windows over the booths now, unlike in the movie, probably added during the height of Covid.

Bonus, but a disappointment:

Carol & Rindy's beautiful house at Grandin Rd has been completely re-done and now looks nothing like in the movie:

And, "that's that"! A truly special and memorable experience.

We talked about the movie some and Sarah asked me which character was the best fit for my personality. Hands down, Abby. I was wide-eyed Therese once, never glam enough for Carol, but Abby will tell you the truth and not blush from it. My hero!

Let's Look Back on a Passionate Billboard Live♪〜Oh Le！〜

It's way too hot, I'm melting every time I step outside...Like every year, I carry around my three sacred must-have items for the summer time, a hat, a parasol and a portable fan. They are indispensable to me so this year, I am once again doing all of my activities with the help of them👒⛱. I recently realised that wearing a hat can trap a lot of heat so whenever I feel too hot, I take off my hat and put the fan on my head to cool it down! 😂This is a pretty good method! It cools down my head quickly and feels refreshing! (Of course, it is also effective to use the fan on your neck and back ♪) Your head can get surprisingly hot, so when you go out, try to cool the top of your head frequently♪＼(^o^)／

Hi, this is Wakana (0￣▽￣0)／

Today, I would like to reflect on "Wakana Billboard Live 2023 ~Sono Saki e~" and share a lot of photos from the performances\\\\٩( 'ω' )و //// Some group photos first! This first photo is right after the 1st stage of the Yokohama performance on July 6th♪ (I felt relieved that I had successfully finished KEMONO so I look pretty refreshed here). From left to right we have our music director Satoshi Takebe, myself, manipulator & keyboardist Yugo Maeda, and guitarist Tetsuro Toyama♪ The next photo was taken right after the 2nd stage ♪ (Everyone was waiting for me to come back. I'm looking really smug here for some mysterious reason)

Then we have a picture of us after the 1st stage in Osaka on July 20th♪ (Billboard Live Osaka's dressing room has been renewed and transformed into a truly wonderful space!) And another shot after the 2nd stage♪ (Our infamous Sushi Zanmai pose~)

I'll also post some stage pictures＼(^o^)／ First of all, a couple of shots of the Yokohama performances! Yokohama 1st stage and Yokohama 2nd stage. And then two shots from Osaka. The 1st stage and the 2nd stage! I already noticed it during the release event, everyone in Osaka is so freaking energetic, it's amazing! 😳 Of course everyone in Yokohama is also full of energy but the reactions I get in Osaka are on another level! 😂 A lot of people called out to me, I was so happy and surprised, for a while there I actually thought I was hallucinating 😂This really helped me recharge😭✨Thank you 😭✨ (And here is the view of the audience area from the stage @Billboard Osaka. We actually moved the tables a bit closer to the stage for the performances)

At the Osaka performance, the creator duo "two two two" who made the music video for "KEMONO feat.Shinya Kiyozuka" came to support me! I received a special souvenir from them, look at Kemono-chan hiding on the packaging! Cute~♡ I didn't even notice the two of them in the audience. Maybe there were two gentlemen with a hat standing on the side... 😭(It was delicious and we ate it all right away, of course I shared it with my musicians! I tried the Kodai cheese flavour of Shikajika)

Next up are my dresses! Here's the dress for the 1st stage♪ I like the botanical pattern and it has a nice breezy summer vibe♪ Then we have the dress for the 2nd stage! This time, I went for green and blue inspired by the album covers for "Sono Saki e". The blue dress makes me think of the waves of the sea and the beautiful sky, I love the delicate colour 😍 I was sweating a lot in it though *laughs* The hair style with all the braids was also amazing! I could never do this by myself so I can only have this kind of hairstyle with the help of a stylist and makeup artist!

Once again, I wanna say a big thank you to everyone who came to my Billboard Live performances😊 I put a lot of thought into "Sono Saki e" and took on various challenges. This live was special because somehow I felt it was needed in order to properly complete the album production. This way you could fully enjoy the music in a special atmosphere on a special day. I want to continue to walk “to the future” together with all of you. I hope that this feeling was conveyed to everyone. Being able to share these moments with you and being able to sing while looking into your eyes makes me happier than anything else😊And since it was also quite challenging I'll definitely never forget about it😂 I will continue to do my best \\\٩( 'ω' )و //// It has truly been a passionate summer! I'm really thankful to you for these experiences!

Last but not least, here are some pictures of me singing and dancing a Matsuken Samba all by myself before the 2nd Yokohama performance! (Oh-le-oh-le-�� => Matsuken Samba~♪) Amazingly, no one was watching! I was completely ignored. Outrageous!

Me least Favorite SIX wig variants (Featuring some slight ranting x)

Same rodeo as the last one luvs x A: Not calling any actress ugly or not right for the role B: This is all My opinion, you're allowed to have different ones, we're all friends here On we go x

Aragon: Jade Marvin (Bliss 4.0) /Khaila Wilcoxon, Multiple cruise casts; Aragon Tour/24-25 Broadway

Both these wigs are mostly fine, there's 1 major thing that's bugging me though. Where's the structure??? Aragon's character is meant to represent regality & decorum, not a hair out of place. Here, the wigs are unkempt, loose, and all over the place. I can get behind Khaila's slightly, but Jade deserved a much better wig, or at least a re-styling.

Boleyn: The Boleyn Bob.

I personally don't mind the Boleyn bob, It's not my favorite style, but It works...To a degree. I can understand why some actresses have gotten it, but on others I'm just thinking..Why? Just as an example, Leah & Hannah have naturally long hair. Why bother using money to make a full wig, when the actress could use a hairpiece, or style their own hair? Design wise, i have a few questions too. Again using Hannah as an example. Why did they choose to trim the edges like that, and not use a full clean cut? Length-wise i have some qualms too, I feel like something a little longer, Like Leah's would've worked better for her. (Sorry, went on a wee tangent x)

Seymour: 2021-2023 Australia swings

I only have 1 issue here, and that's styling. For each swalt It's the exact same procedure. Straight hair, small crown, nothing else. No front styling like Braids, front piece etc, No variations in hair type, no creative freedom. Nothing. Just the exact same look for every swing. (I was gonna use the same argument for cleves with the low pony, but then i found a fuckin godworthy weave.)

Cleves: Janice Rijssel, Breakaway 4.0

Right x The side & back? Absolutely Zero issue with (Other than the weird break, but hey it's the cruises), love the cruises allowing a bit more creative freedom with the wigs. Front? Sweet Jesus, the front. The bit people r gonna see the most-

Who gave this the OK? Seriously, Who? Everything's flying at random angles, nothings bunched or grouped, strands are flying over the side-piece. I've looked at different images and trust me, this was not a 1-time thing. If anything, I feel bad for Janice. The wig does her Zero favors, Doesn't work with her face shape, her face sums it up for me. (THANKFULLY we got a glowup on the bliss, but christ almighty.) Ok ranting moment over x

Howard: All pony's since 2023

There's absolutely no issue with any of these, and this is more of a nostalgia thing. I really don't like the full pink pony's, i miss the days of the ombre, fade up's. We've not really had a "Bad" Howard wig, so i just thought I'd have a bit of a moment x

Parr: The side curl variant. Again. Right ok x We've had some stellar variations of this wig over the years, From London-the cruises!

These work for the actress design-wise & physically, and are an all-round 10/10.

Then, there are times where I'm asking if they could've tried out a few different looks. (No 2 is a particular fave x)

I think this is mainly an issue Standardization-wise, with higher ups wanting people to match either previous casts, or the principal. Take Ellie, When she first covered Parr she had the parr pony, which was still relativley new back then. It worked for her, and she looked stunning! Then, when she returned, she was for some reason given the side curls, and it never truly worked. In contrast, Principal Parr (Elna Breschi) was also wearing the side curls. Notice a pattern?

Compostable Clothing Closures

Making clothes that are 97% biodegradable is surprisingly easy. Pick a natural fibre fabric, buy some 100% cotton or linen thread, and you're there. (You can even get 100% cotton overlocker thread - though you have to go searching for it.)

Those last few percent, though? That can be tough. One of the biggest offenders is closures. While there are plenty of clothes that don't need something to hold them shut, I confess I like having the option. Below is a round-up of various closures, and their compostability.

Note: for the purpose of this article, I'm treating metal closures as "compostable", in the sense that they're 1) easy to remove before you compost the rest of the object, and 2) infinitely reusable on other things, unless they break - at which point they're usually recyclable using our current commercial systems. And remember, re-using things that already exist is always preferable to buying new, "better" items.

Buckles/Rings

While less common than other closure methods, I find buckles, D-rings and O-rings are great when used in the right context. They're usually metal or plastic, neither of which are compostable - but metal will last practically forever, if it's good quality. Plastic tends to degrade over time, especially if exposed to the sun.

I find rings especially quick and easy to use, and a set of D-rings can give a very fine-tuned amount of tightening. My favourite belt uses two square D-rings instead of a buckle closure.

Buttons

The humble button, while ubiquitous now, took a while to catch on. Buttons as a common method of closure didn't become popular in Europe[^1] until about the early 1300s, around the same time that the tailoring revolution[^2] happened.

Nowadays, plastic is by far the most common material that buttons are made from. It's cheap and sturdy, but obviously it doesn't compost. So what are some alternatives?

Liz Haywood, a pattern maker who focuses on zero-waste designs, has thought a bit about this conundrum here. There's photos of several different DIY compostable and recycled buttons in her post.

For a completely compostable garment, wood, leather, horn, fabric, and thread buttons are your best bet. If, like most sensible people, you remove the buttons from something that's about to be worm food before you ditch it, the options expand considerably - metal, clay, recycled bottle caps, even glass buttons are all possible. You can have a lot of fun with making your own buttons - to match an outfit, or contrast with it, or maybe you'd like a different button for every buttonhole...

Another, related option is cufflinks - 18th century shirts often used cufflinks on the sleeves and one or two small thread buttons on the collar. That way one set of cufflinks could be used on multiple shirts, showing off a bit of wealth, while saving them from the (admittedly harsh) laundry practices of the day.

[1]: I have no doubt that buttons became popular in other parts of the world, too, but unfortunately I don't know much about it. Europe in the 14-15th century is my main area of study, mostly due to the fact that the historical re-enactment group that I'm a part of operates in that time period.

[2]: The tailoring revolution refers to the period where garments for the higher classes underwent a dramatic change in the way they were cut out. The very short version is, fashion garments shifted from primarily rectangular construction to more form-fitting, using the precursors of many standard cutting practices used today.

Elastic

While elastic isn't technically a closure, it's used that way in many different objects. Most elastic nowadays is made from polyester and synthetic rubber. No composting there.

But, all is not lost! You can now find elastics made of natural rubber and cotton! (I was quite impressed by this, to be honest. I thought I'd have to give up elastic for good.)

The downside, as is usual when you actually give a crap about the planet, is cost. You'll mostly only find it for sale online (Etsy has several options), and it can be more expensive (especially factoring in shipping). Prices on the compostable elastics I found were comparable to a mid-range polyester elastic at Spotlight (before shipping). I think that's actually pretty good, all things considered. (I don't trust the cheapest elastic, it loses its stretch ridiculously fast. A fact I discovered to my sorrow only after buying a 20m roll of it.)

As a bonus, supposedly natural rubber elastic lasts longer than synthetic elastics - this has been my experience with many natural vs synthetic things, but I haven't tested natural elastic specifically to know for sure.

The biggest downside here is the rubber - if you're dealing with a latex allergy, this is not the solution for you.

Hooks and Eyes

While these have fallen out of favour over the years, they do have their uses in a compostable closet. They're easy to buy, and easy to make if you can get hold of the wire - all you need is a set of needle-nose pliers.

Being metal, the hook/eye can be re-used until it breaks - which takes a while. Like buttons, they're easy to take off a garment and move to another one. Unlike buttons, they don't need a buttonhole - you can move both the hook and eye almost anywhere on a garment, really refining the fit of an item.

They are, however, somewhat limited in that application - hooks and eyes work best if they're under a small but constant amount of tension, pulling in opposite directions. I once tried to use hooks and eyes on a loose-fitting medieval tunic, and it just didn't work.

Laces and Ties

Before buttons became The Big Thing in medieval Europe (and for quite a few centuries after), laces and ties were the closure method du jour. Why did they stick around so long? The same reason pyjama pants often have a drawstring in them - they add adjustability to garments in a simple and easy to use (and create!) way. Stays and corsets are one of the most recognisable examples of this concept in action.

Lacing does work better on some things than others, but just about anywhere that you'd put elastic nowadays can likely use a drawstring instead. And there are some patterns (YouTube link) for adjustable garments that use lacing as an integral part of the design.

The main downside for me? They can be slow to use, and awkward, if you have difficulty with fine motor control. Mine is variable enough that I'll usually opt for a different closure, unless lacing or ties really is the best or only option.

Snaps

Confession: I adore snaps. They're fast and easy to use when my hands don't want to co-operate, and they can be wonderfully decorative as well as functional.

There are two general types - those you sew into place like you sew on hooks and eyes, and ones that are applied to the fabric using a press. The former takes more time to install, but can be replaced relatively easily if they stop working. The latter can technically be replaced, but it's a LOT harder and you risk damaging the fabric behind it while you try. They're also more likely to rip out of the fabric in the first place.

As for material, it's pretty much just metal and plastic (sometimes a combination). From a sustainability standpoint, metal is the better option - as long as you recycle it at the end of its life.

Zips

Zips are everywhere nowadays. They're easy to use, but can be hard to replace when they break. Putting them in correctly isn't always a cake-walk either. And in terms of compostability, the answer is definitely "no".

The vast majority of zippers on the market use a polyester or poly-cotton tape, with plastic or metal teeth set into it, and plastic or metal tabs and pulls. Because of the mix of materials, and the size of a typical zip, most municipal waste streams can't take them for recycling. However, textile recyclers[ ^3] such as Upparel usually take zips (and the things they're attached to!).

I also found a couple of different manufacturers creating zips out of post-consumer recycled materials - a pleasant surprise, and a strong move towards closing waste streams.

[3]: Clothing retailers are increasingly taking responsibility for their part in reducing waste by offering recycling programs through their stores. Recycling Near You and Frankie list some of the major programs in Australia, though it's worth noting that most of those listed only want whole textiles or large pieces - to my knowledge, Upparel is the only place that will take scraps, broken textiles, and related.

If I've missed a closure type, or you know of places selling compostable or truly recyclable versions of any of the above, I would love to hear about it. While I'm (currently) a far less prolific sewist than the blog name implies, I want to be deliberate and thoughtful in my sewing choices going forward.

Also, as a last random thought, I wonder if anyone has started making bioplastic versions of any of the above? Wanders off to do some research...

Readerly Exploration #4

October 2, 2023

Title: “Collaborative Reading and Writing: Learning in the Company in Peers”

Citation: Fisher, et. al. (2020), Chapter 4, “Collaborative Reading and Writing: Learning in the Company of Peers,” (pp. 82-96)

Takeaway: The big takeaway that I received from this chapter is that students need to be engaged in more independent and smaller group literacy groups in order to develop skills that they do not gain from a whole-group instruction.

Nugget: With younger students, it is important to have a variety of literary elements in the classroom, like group reading, peer conversations, or literature circles.

Narration: An important mentor in my faith is my mom! I decided to talk to her about her perspective on an excerpt of the chapter. I focused on page 94-95, which talks about how individual practice outside of the teacher’s instruction is valuable and important for a student to be able to completely develop under a literacy skill. I had a conversation about how I found it interesting that students should not be given just one thing to repeat over and over again. With this reading, I told my mom that I learned that it is more meaningful when a teacher gives smaller engagement pieces of literacy so that the students are not overwhelmed or falling under the pattern of repetition. My mom found it intriguing that this is how literacy can be taught, because she was in a completely different world when she was in elementary school. She cannot remember when a teacher valued independent working or reading, and if you were to fall behind in a large group instruction, there were no interventions to help you gain the skills you needed. I also had a conversation with my mom about how I hope to make an influence on my students in a way that they will not feel like they are falling behind and to give them opportunities to learn on their own. I also mentioned how I hope to influence them in a godly way, and show them the love that God has for all of us.

Here is a quote I found from the excerpt we talked about: “Time away from the teacher is an excellent opportunity to provide students with the practice they need to fully develop these skills. Nugget: Students need to be asked important questions to be able to understand what reading is and what elements are valuable to gain from reading books.

Radius - Week 1 - Monday

(18/09/2023)

After being given the project brief, one of my peer group members mentioned the desire to explore nightlife. While I have no experience with nightlife, my vague understanding was that there are a couple of places near the Riverside that are part of nightlife- House, Pharmacia, Squires. The three of us headed over there, the broadwalk of which was where most of my study ended up taking place.

There, a couple of sketches and observations were made. with particular attention to simplifying interesting shapes or patterns I noticed.

But truth to be told, life sketching is just not something I'm good at or enjoy doing. Most of my observations were done in photograph.

The above set of photos interested me due to the repetition of the objects. I got particularly stuck on the tables, getting smaller the more in the distance they are. The visual of it seemed interesting to me.

I also took the above photos after deciding that the feeling of being in a liminal space, a space unused for it's purpose and all the other themes of isolation were interesting to me philosophically. Though I'd be lying if a big motivation behind these wasn't also how it'd look interesting to take a photo from a specific angle. The last photo is taken in the space between the wooden bits that make up the table.

2024 Wrap-Up

December 30, 2024

Well, it's like SmashMouth said - "the years start coming and they don't stop coming." Let's just leave it at that.

Goal Recap

My first "vague" goal was 1890s stuff - specifically undergarments. I had started a corset cover in 2023, and I did finish it, but that was all I did.

"Vague" goal two was stashbusting. I thought I had done well this year, but I was wrong.

I picked up a bunch of upholstery fabric scraps (half-yard to 2yd pieces) from someone of Fb Marketplace, and purchased fabric for two of my sewing projects. While the upholstery fabric is mostly unused, the two purchases did get used right away!

And my final goal was to make more medieval linens from the linen I had left in my stash. I did mostly finish a simple coif - it's wearable, but the ties are still unfinished.

All in all, not great work. But that's okay. I haven't failed myself or anyone else with these, and I know I spent my year productively (mostly lol).

Project Recap

Started a simple medieval coif (stash fabric)

Upgraded Greco-Roman chiton (purchased fabric and buttons) (I wore this to the second of two ren faires I went to this year, with elf ears and a fun belt. It was really just an excuse to upgrade my chiton for SCA purposes, though.)

Belt favor embroidered with the recipient's cats in the style of marginalia (stash fabric and trim) (This was a gift for the guy I was dating at the time. I regret not getting a photo of the favor. I was really proud of the embroidery, and the fabric and trim came together very well!)

Embroidered medieval drawstring bag (stash and purchased fabric and trim)

Finished the 1890s corset cover I started in 2023 (stash fabric, buttons, and trim)

Started cute summer pajamas from Mrs Depew Vintage pattern 2035 (stash fabric and buttons, purchased trim) (The fabric was inherited from my grandmother, and I happened to have a coordinating pair of buttons to go with it!)

Made a fleece ear warmer/ear muff thing for my grandmother. (It's technically a Christmas gift, but she handed me a sketch and some fabric and asked if I wanted to make it for her, so... but I bought thread and twill tape to complete it.)

On top of those, I also helped three friends with sewing projects of their own this spring!

First was Melanie, a friend from the local SCA and English Country Dance Groups. I helped her sew a Regency dress and open robe for a Regency ball in March. We got the whole thing cut out and sewn in just two and a half days! I even had time to sew a reticule from her scrap fabric in between sewing days.

Next up was Breanna, a college friend, who wanted help sewing her first cosplay. She picked out a good pattern for her cosplay, but it included some tricky elements. She handled them like a champ, though, from learning to make piping from bias tape to sewing an invisible zipper on correctly the first time - all in less than four days!

Casey and I only had one afternoon of sewing, as they were in crunch mode for a convention, but we managed to get most of a circle cape done and talked about how their hat would go together.

While it was super fun to sew and spend time with my friends, these experiences really reminded me that I do not have the patience to teach. Sewing goes much faster with two people, though - one to sit at the machine and sew, and one to iron and pin pieces together.

I also took the time in November to make a digital catalog of all the sewing patterns I have. Between paper and digital, Big 4 companies and independent designers and self-drafted stuff I have 58 patterns. Which seems excessive. Perhaps some of next year's stashbusting will involve getting rid of patterns I haven't or won't use.

Summary

What will next year bring? Who knows! I'm trying not to get my hopes up, but the last few years seem to have alternated between "lots of sewing" and "very little sewing," and this year falls into the second category. I'll try to set a very low bar, just in case. Even lower than this year.
