10/120 2023 Reading Challenge
5/5
Tumblr media
To help keep myself grounded I picked up a nonfiction. And I loved it! I feel like this was a long needed thing. I love reading nonfiction books and this was no exception, once I started I couldnā€™t stop.
The writing was good, and you can tell that the author spent his time researching the topic. If you like pirates and media featuring them I totally recommend picking up this book.

I actually met my reading goal of 50 books! Itā€™s such an accomplishment for me especially since I only read 15 books last year! Next year, I want to hit 60 books. I already have at least 30 unread books on my shelves.

The other day I completed my GoodReads challenge for the year. Which made it 3 days slower than the year previous.

23 books to read in 2023
Thanks for tagging me @readingaway <3
This year (and the last few years) is about trying to reduce my physical tbr and all the books I had off my dad when we moved, and finally get round to the books Iā€™ve been lent by friends. Iā€™m hoping to try and half it, but Iā€™m not convinced itā€™ll happen
1. The day of the triffids by John Wyndham
2. The ambassadorā€™s mission, 3. The rogue and 4. The traitor queen by Trudi Canavan. Iā€™ve got the first one, the other two Iā€™ll borrow from the library to finish the series
5. American psycho by Bret Easton Ellis. Read just over half last year, want to get it over and done with
6. Men who hate women by Laura Bates. It always takes me a bit longer to physically sit and read non fiction, so this will be on the go a while longer until I finish it
7. The girl who played with fire by Stieg Larson
8. How to kill your family by Bella Mackie
9. Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
10. Erebus: the story of a ship by Michael Palin
11. The silence of the lambs by Thomas Harris. I want to finish watching hannibal first so I can pick this up where the show ends
12. Room by Emma Donoghue
13. Maus by Art Spiegelman
14. The five people you meet in heaven by Mitch Albom
15. Shadow and bone by Leigh Bardugo
16. We should all be feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
17. Passenger to Frankfurt by Agatha Christie
18. Les misĆ©rables by Victor Hugo. This is super ambitious and I can practically guarantee it wonā€™t get done, but weā€™re being optimistic here
19. The black prism by Brent Weeks
20. A blight of mages by Karen Miller
21. Ten arguments for deleting your social media accounts right now by Jaron Lanier. This is in the hope itā€™ll finally get me off twitter lol
22. The great adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle
23. The parable of the sower by Octavia Butler. Honourable mention that I donā€™t own but am really keen to have a go at
Tagging @petitepancakes @dfvictorie and anyone who fancies having a go :)

Book review: Off-Campus Series by Elle Kennedy
Rating:
The Deal: 4ā
The Mistake: 3,5āļø
The Score: 3,5āļø
The Goal: 3,5āļø
The Legacy: 4āļø
All the stories were cute and funny to me. I liked the first book the most, the rest were just ok, I guess.
I really liked Garret and Hannah's relationship, the build up and their storylines was really interesting.
Logan and Grace, Dean and Allie relationships were nice to read.
After Garret, Tucker is the best boy. But the cause for the "pink or blue elephant" in the room was a bit unrealistic. The probability of that happening is really low (considering the factors).... I was just expecting a different plot for him or the same plot but with different development, I guess.
But it was cute anyway.
The last book was nice and basically, fan service. Which I don't mind it, we always enjoy more content from the books. It was a nice blanket. But I also laugh my ass off with this one. Alexander (if you know what I'm talking about) made this a lot better.

14/120 2023 Reading Challenge (2 books behind now)
4/5
Tumblr media
I listened to this as an Audiobook while I played some video games. I found that when I got really got invested I would pause my game and just listen. It did have its tense moments but I found myself wanting it to go further than it did. It was short, but I feel like it was a good length for what this story was.
I do however recommend this to be a book to read during spooky season.

2023 Reading Goals--
1. GoodReads Goalā€“ My goal for 2022 was to read fewer books since I constantly put pressure on myself to read. If I was doing a different hobby like baking or catching up on TV shows, I would feel guilty instead of relaxing or enjoying what I was doing. Iā€™m currently on pace to read 6 fewer books than last year. So, thatā€™s kind of a failure. But I did read 34 comics this year so if we subtract those out then I really read about 40 fewer books than last year? Okay. Thatā€™s a stretch. All that to say that my goal for reading in 2023 is still to read less. I want to be able to enjoy my free time in any way I want without feeling guilt. So, Iā€™m going to aim yet again to read between 52 and 100 books for the year. 2. TBR Readingā€“ My current physical TBR sits at 19 books and Iā€™d love to get that down to 10 by the end of the year. Which will mean reading more than 9 books from the TBR shelf Ā since I bring new books into the house every month. I know there are people out there with literally hundreds of unread books in their library and I cannot fathom that. If my physical TBR gets into the double digits I get antsy. 3. Book Buyingā€“ As part of my other goals, Iā€™ll be attempting to buy fewer books by only buying books that I need to continue a series or new releases. I preorder all of my new releases at Christmas and again in the middle of the year around my birthday. So, Iā€™ll still be getting new books, but only ones Iā€™m really excited about or ones to keep my reading going in a series. 4. 40 Before 40 TBRā€“ Iā€™ll continue reading from my 40 Books Before 40 project, but, now that Iā€™ve DNFā€™d the most recent one I attempted, I only have four books left. So, this is probably going to take a backseat with over 6.5 years left to complete the TBR.
