Check out the Emmy nominee predictions …
https://variety.com/lists/2023-emmys-predictions/
This lists the predictions of the 8 nominees per category and their predicted winner.
Just look at the drama category —
https://variety.com/feature/2023-emmys-drama-series-predictions-1235560705/
Note the loooong list of entries (Big Sky being one of them).
I don’t see The Boys or anyone from the boys being predicted as a nominee. If they do get voted — that WOULD be amazing bc the members of the TV academy voted for that entry enough times to score a nomination seat.
But otherwise, is anyone really surprised that Kripke would submit Jensen (his “boy” and boner for crush) for consideration. And really wouldn’t surprise me if Jensen submitted his entry himself. $300 is pocket change for him or Kripke, and a lot of actors submit their own entries for consideration.

Lead Actor and Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Predictions
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It looks like nearly every show that falls remotely under the drama category is listed as a consideration, and it's some tough competition this year. These predictions seem fairly accurate. Plus, like others have shared, TB season 3 wasn't as good as the first two, and it aired shortly after the previous years Emmy submissions closed, which means it's not as prevalent in the minds of voters. I'll definitely be surprised if there are any major nominations for The Boys.
(Not surprised at all either Jensen or Kripke added his name to the list. Thankfully, the other actors were also added, otherwise it might look like even more favoritism that I'm sure TB actors would love. /s/)
(But why aren't Walker and WIndy on the list of possible Dramas?)

Jensen Ackles | JIBCon 2023, June 18, 2023
Tumblr media
(NuttyForAckles)
Jensen came up to stage asking "What’s going on here? What are we doing?" (x)
He had an overnight flight here. He was asleep but someone was hitting a prayer bowl and woke everyone up. Afterwards, she ran through the isle smudging/sageing it. (x)
She had a sign next to her saying „don‘t hurt me. (Circled aggressively.) I am woman. I am god. God is woman. Woman woman woman.“ Jensen didn’t go back to sleep. (x)
Talking about the prayer bowl and ‘smudging’ on the plane over 😂 #jib13 ‘I chucked some holy water at her’ (x)
Jensen would like to see Iceland, New Zealand, visit his friend Karl Urban, lots of different places. (x)
Q about being prenoninated for an Emmy. Jensen laughed and said it’s just a submission, not a nomination. And would he please record an audio book? He‘d love to do that. (x)
‘Do they even have phone books anymore?’ Fan: we’ll find one! (About voice acting/reading audio books) (x)
They were having a little toast to father‘s day in the green room, because they have a lot of fathers in the green room. (x)
Jensen takes his kids to school every day and JJ likes to dj, so there’s lots of Harry Styles and Taylor Swift. (x)
‘JJ likes to DJ in the car… I hear a lot to harry and Taylor… and I don’t hate it.’ (x)
Jensen has never heard his French dubbing. Q person doesn’t like his dubbed Soldier Boy, it’s too light. (x)
He’s flirting in French 😂😂 fan has lost it to giggles (x)
jensen saying “hi i’m dean winchester” with an italian accent. I AM IN LOVE (x)

Note
I think I found an updated answer about Emmy voting. this article from 2023 makes it sound like now you nominate a variable X number per category based on however many eligible submissions there were that year (which may be 5, 6 or even 7 depending on count of total submissions). I don’t know if they made any changes since then. Also I think I read somewhere all voters can nominate for the show categories (best drama, etc) but when it comes to specific categories (like acting) I think it’s limited peer group voting?
https://www.goldderby.com/article/2023/emmy-rules-voting-nominations/
https://www.emmys.com/sites/default/files/Downloads/2024-rules-procedures-v4.pdf
Thanks for sharing! Hope the previous anon sees this.
All I know is the latter - everyone can vote for program categories, and individual awards are only for peer groups.

 Editors’ Choice:
In honor of the one year anniversary of our briefing, we picked some of our favorite fics posted during this week in years past. Be sure to share your favorites we didn’t include!
and if you wonder about the spell i’m under (it’s your love) by mikaylawrites | Rated T | Josh Lyman/Donna Moss | Complete | “You don’t look so bad yourself,” she purrs, her fingers reaching out to unnecessarily adjust his belt buckle. “And I think you’re gonna win tonight.”
He groans, both because of where her hand is and because the superstitious side of him can’t tolerate that kind of talk. “I’m gonna need you to go outside and turn around and spit.”
“Don’t need to,” she tells him, “because I know I’m right.”
A night at the Academy of Country Music Awards with country music power couple Josh Lyman and Donna Moss.
Friendship, Rings, and Heartstrings by JessBakesCakes | Rated G | Josh Lyman/Donna Moss | Complete | Sam feels sort of like a whack-a-mole at the arcade with how quickly and intensely the epiphany hits him. Maybe this is it. Maybe they’ll finally get it together. Behind all the flirting and banter is an incredible devotion they have to each other; one that possesses them to eat only a bite of a granola bar for nearly twenty-four hours or to hop on an international flight with whatever nonsensical items would fit in a backpack. He’s seen it for years now; he’s just been waiting for them to see it too.
Help Me Hold Onto You by jeaniecregg | Rated G | C. J. Cregg/Toby Ziegler | Complete | In which CJ has a bit of an existential crisis...
Hell Is Other People (But Not You) by McKat | Rated T | Will Bailey/Sam Seaborn | Complete | Sam’s visiting the White House when they go into a Crash.
He and Will get stuck together.
Maybe there are worse places to be.
 Champagne by arborealstops | Rated G | C. J. Cregg/Kate Harper | Complete | “I got you a present.”
please linger near the door by cmbing | Rated T | Josh Lyman/Donna Moss | Complete | They’re definitely not dating when there is a presidential dinner and they don’t think to invite dates. Instead, they assume they’ll go with each other. Him in a black tux, her in a red dress. Their arms are interlocked as they enter the ballroom, and Donna even goads Josh into dancing with her. It’s friendly, nothing more.
They’re just having sex. That’s it.
the weight of love (in your arms) by joshllyman | Rated T | Josh Lyman/Sam Seaborn | Complete | He steals a glance at Josh and sees that his face is carefully blank, intentionally wiped of all emotion.
“Just tired?” Sam asks quietly, and Josh looks up at him.
Josh shakes his head. “Something like that.”
   Misc:
Happy birthday to Kim Webster, who played Ginger!

https://awardsradar.com/2023/06/12/interview-jensen-ackles/
“So I started to kind of dive into just reading accounts of other people’s PTSD, whether it was from trauma, from an accident, or whether it was war related, or whether it was child abuse related. And, it seems so specific and so tailored to that individual, that I felt like, I would just be mirroring somebody else’s PTSD, if I kind of read into it too much. So I backed away from diving too deep into that research and just kind of read and had conversations with Kripke. Read the backstory on Soldier Boy, obviously, knowing where he was coming from knowing what he had gone through. You know, he’s somebody who deals with things much differently than someone in today’s society. And it wasn’t something that existed in his era. It wasn’t something that they talked about in his era. So he just muscled up and just dealt with it. That was something that I think was a really interesting dialogue on what we all currently know as PTSD. And I love the fact that they call it shell shock, you know, that it didn’t really have a name. Much like the term anxiety. That doesn’t exist in his world. He’s like, No, you mean you’re scared. And I wanted to bring that kind of gruff, almost uneducated version of it to the character.”
I know you've mentioned Jensen not doing much research into his character's, and it sounds like here, he did attempt to do some research into Soldier Boy and his backstory, but I get the impression that he started doing the research, realized it was too hard, and basically said 'whatever, Kripke will tell me what to do'. At least, that's how it feels based on the lack of emotional gravitas I felt from his portrayal of Solider Boy. It makes me wish that Kripke hadn't fought so hard for him and that Amazon and Sony went with one of the other names they were considering. I can only imagine how good it could have been with a different actor.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To answer your question, an actor playing an idea of a character is never, ever the right way to create a good performance. This is what Jensen did. It stuck because he was dynamic but aside from this he diluted 99% of who Soldier Boy is because he was in his head and not truly living the part. Jensen has an idea of what other actors do so he tries to mimic that, that is also not so efficient. This is a classic case of someone's looks and charisma overtaking the performance itself. People ignored the lack of dimension because they were enthralled by the idea of SB and Jensen is fairly dynamic in some moments. But his performance could have been sooo much more. I saw online that people are saying his team submitted him for an Emmy nomination( for those that didn't know, that is how you get considered for a nomination, by first entering). I doubt he will make it into a full nomination given his performance but that is all relative to what the performances are like overall. I don't think submitting him with this performance was a smart move but, who knows, I might be proven wrong.
I am more focused on him landing or self producing a groundbreaking role but, to do that, he needs to up his performances. He's special in his own way but he is very far from A list level. Compare the stiffness and lack of realness of SB to Homelander or to the lead of the series. Even there the difference is quite noticeable. He does have an iconic face though and can be very dynamic and connected when he chooses to be, he just needs more dedication to this craft and understanding it rather than vying for fame and making counterintuitive moves casting as well as producing and submission wise.
Thank you for the beautiful ask! 💖💖💖

Denise Jackson Ford attends Emmy Awards ceremony following nomination of ‘American Reckoning' -- the film about her father’s unsolved murder
Tumblr media
Denise Jackson Ford, daughter of slain civil rights leader, Wharlest Jackson Sr., attended the 44th Annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards ceremony for documentaries that included PBS Frontline’s “American Reckoning.” From left are Raney Aronson, Frontline’s executive producer and editor-in-chief; Yoruba Richen and Brad Lichtenstein, directors; and Ford.
By ROSCOE BARNES III
NATCHEZ, Miss. -- Denise Jackson Ford, daughter of slain civil rights leader, Wharlest Jackson Sr., recently travelled to New York to participate in the 44th Annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards ceremony for documentaries that included PBS Frontline’s “American Reckoning.”
The PBS program, which featured the story of Wharlest Jackson’s murder, aired on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022. It did not win an Emmy, but Ford said she was happy that it was nominated, and her participation was a good experience.
“Back in July of 2023, notifications were received from Brad Lichtenstein, president and producer of 371 Productions that our documentary film, ‘American Reckoning’ had been nominated for a News and Documentary Emmy in the category of ‘Outstanding Historical Documentary,’ Ford said.
“I had the privilege to accompany the team in New York on September 28 to be amongst the crowd of highly performed documentarians, finalists, and writers as well as producers.”
The awards ceremony was held at the Palladium Times Square in New York City. HBO Max’s “Hostages” won the Emmy in the “Outstanding Historical Documentary” category. Others in the running were CNN’s “Watergate: Blueprint for a Scandal,” Netflix’s “Meltdown: Three Mile Island,” and PBS’ “Waterman – Duke: Ambassador of Aloha.”
Ford said it was an honor to know that they made it to the nomination list for “such a great, prestigious award.” “I commend Brad Lichtenstein and Yoruba Richen, Stanley Nelson, along with the PBS Production team for the work, time and efforts put into this documentary to make history for our family,” Ford said.
“American Reckoning” was directed by Lichtenstein and Richen. The film is a feature-length documentary that tells the story of Wharlest Jackson Sr. and his murder in the Feb. 27, 1967, bombing of his truck by the Ku Klux Klan on Minor Street in Natchez. Jackson was the treasurer for the Natchez Branch of the NAACP. The Klan killed him, reportedly, because of his promotion to a job at Armstrong Tire and Rubber Company that had traditionally gone to white employees.
After multiple investigations, no one was ever held accountable for Jackson’s murder. The film presents new research as it chronicles the lives of Jackson’s family in their search for justice and for answers.
As noted by Frontline, “American Reckoning” presents “an extraordinary look at the civil rights era – the violence and resistance – through rare footage filmed more than 50-years ago in Natchez, Mississippi, and the still-unresolved killing of local NAACP leader Wharlest Jackson.”
The film, Frontline notes, “examines Black opposition to racist violence in Mississippi, spotlighting a little-known armed resistance group called the Deacons for Defense and Justice, woven alongside the Jackson family’s decades-long search for justice amid the ongoing federal effort to investigate civil rights era cold cases.”
In addition to Ford and her brother, Wharlest Jackson Jr., the film features Ser Seshsh Ab Heter-Clifford M. Boxley, and Stanley Nelson, author of two books on the Klan. “American Reckoning” can be viewed for free online.
The Emmy awards program honors programming content from over 2,300 submissions that originally premiered in calendar-year 2022, according to the program’s website. It noted the submissions are “judged by a pool of over 1,000 peer professionals from across the television and streaming/digital media news and documentary industry.”

The Redford Center Partners With Black Public Media For BPM's 2023 Climate Open Call
Tumblr media
The Redford Center has partnered with Black Public Media for BPM's 2023 open call for climate stories. The center, which was co-founded by actors and activists Robert Redford and James Redford, is one of the only US-based non-profits dedicated to environmental impact filmmaking. Black Public Media will award a total of $230,000 in funding for feature-length documentaries and documentary or scripted shorts. Projects in all stages of production are invited and should be appropriate for public media distribution. The application window is September 1-25.
Stories that examine the impact of climate change on communities of African descent are encouraged. The projects can focus on how the crisis is being managed, environmental racism, health impacts, solutions, climate education, sustainable industries and climate policies. One $30,000 award will be given to a stand-alone or limited-series short film. Five $40,000 awards will be granted for broadcast or feature-length nonfiction film projects. Recipients of those awards might also get to participate in BPM's PitchBLACK Forum, which is the largest national pitch competition for independent filmmakers and creative technologists making content about the global Black experience. PitchBLACK competitors will face off for an additional $150,000 in funding. All Black Public Media funding awards are licensing agreements for public media distribution.
Robert Redford and James Redford co-founded The Redford Center in 2005 and they will partner with BPM on the open call and offer advice and resources.
“We are honored to partner with BPM on this open call, and grateful to BPM for creating this opportunity to center frontline filmmakers and projects focused on increasing knowledge and resonance of the importance of safeguarding our environment,” said The Redford Center Executive Director Jill Tidman. “As more and more people experience the effects of climate change, it is vital that we hear from and learn from communities who are often disproportionately impacted by it. I cannot wait to see what stories come through this effort."
The open call submissions link will go live on September 1st at  https://blackpublicmedia.org/for-media-makers/open-call/ and close on Monday, September 25 at 11:59 p.m. ET.
All applicants must be the producer or director of the project, be a US citizen, have a minimum of three years of producing and directing experience, or have a senior producer tied to the project. Key members of the creative team must include at least one person of color.
Black Public Media will have free information sessions on August 29 and September 21. Applicants are encouraged to attend these sessions. Details on the information sessions and the open call will be available at https://blackpublicmedia.org. For more information, email: [email protected] or call 212-234-8200.
BPM's Climate Stories initiative is supported by the New York Community Trust Pare Lorentz Documentary Fund and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
An independent panel of media professionals will review applications and select the winners who will be announced in December.
BPM has supported climate projects in the past including Black Folk Don’t: Go Green (2012), by Emmy-award-winning director Angela Tucker; Pangaea (2016), by Olivia Peace; Midnight Oil (2023), by Bilal Motley (currently streaming in BPM’s new AfroPoP Digital Shorts) series; and Razing Liberty Square (broadcast premiere in Jan. 2024), by Katja Esson.
