Pundits keep claiming that there are no trans men competing with other men. In reality, there are dozens of amazing trans men playing in the men's leagues, including some impressive Olympic athletes. Here are 5 trans sportsmen who recently joined men's divisions:

Japanese champion boxer Shindo Go generated much interest when he announced he was rejoining the ring in the men's division after transitioning. He just had his first trial fight in December, narrowly losing (29-27) to his opponent. He's set to return professionally this year!

Brazil's champion table tennis player Luca Kumahara began playing against other men in December. He quickly became a finalist in a national competition, defeated only by the championship winner. The 29-year-old trans man is currently providing commentary at the Olympics after playing in the 2012, 2016, and 2021 games.

Loui Sand is a Swedish handball player. He thought he would have to retire in 2019 when he transitioned but Kärra HF contracted him to play on the men's team shortly after! Unfortunately, like too many trans athletes, he had to end his career early in 2022 due to harassment.

Danny Baker started boxing when he was just 14. After transitioning in his 20s, he became Britain's first professional trans boxer in the men's division. He's already won several matches against cis men and continues to fight his way up the ranks!

Finally, fencer Bobbie Hirsch joined his college men's team last year as their first trans male fencer. He placed in the NCAA regionals only weeks after starting. I want to highlight Bobbie because, like many other young trans men, he will undoubtedly make history with his athletic skills.

New JoJo event announced for April 2025 - JOJODAY

JOJODAY, a 'fan festival' event celebrating the history of the JoJo anime, has been announced for the 12th April 2025 by the official JoJo anime twitter account. More information, including a link to a JOJODAY website can be found here: https://x.com/anime_jojo/status/1867495556572213641?s=46

We currently do not have any ticket information or further details about the event, but we do know that this event will be focusing on the past and future of the JoJo anime, with the Japanese voice actors for Jonathan Joestar (Kazuyuki Okitsu), Jotaro Kujo (Daisuke Ono) and Leone Abbacchio (Junichi Suwabe) appearing on stage at some point during the event. The venue for this event is the Yoyogi National Stadium. That is all the official information we currently have. In my opinion though, this is the closest we have ever been to a Steel Ball Run anime announcement - Stone Ocean was announced at a similar event (in April 2021 mind you), and with this event specifically focusing on the past and future of the anime it would be the perfect opportunity for them to announce a Steel Ball Run anime. One of the key art pieces for JOJODAY includes all of the old universe JoJo's looking back at someone. Could it maybe be Johnny..?

Milestone Monday

We remember January 6 as the date for the congressional certification of the presidential election and the peaceful transfer of power in the United States, but it is also infamously remembered for the violent storming of the Capitol Building in 2021 to prevent that certification. It is also the date in 1941 when President Franklin D. Roosevelt delivered his Four Freedoms speech in the State of the Union address, which would later inspire the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights. The "essential human freedoms" articulated in Roosevelt's address are:

Freedom of speech and expression

Freedom of worship

Freedom from want

Freedom from fear

To commemorate the address, we present images from the propagandistic FDR, The New Lincoln: Foursquare for the Four Freedoms, published in New York by Picture Digest in 1942, and the famous 1943 paintings by Norman Rockwell that were inspired by the Four Freedoms, as reproduced in Norman Rockwell, Artist and Illustrator by Brooklyn Museum director Thomas S. Buechner, published in New York by H. N. Abrams in 1970. These paintings are considered as equally propagandistic, as they were intended to promote patriotism in a time of war.

While the Four Freedom seem like idealistic aspirations, the address was really a national security speech, breaking with the non-interventionist mood of the day. The Japanese would attack Pearl Harbor eleven months later, and the Four Freedoms would be referenced as justification for the U.S. engagement in WWII against the tide of aggression and totalitarianism.

 ⠀⠀  ⠀nakyung was born on april 1st, 2001 as nicole lee in toronto, canada. she grew up in port hope, ontario, canada with her older brother, daniel, and younger sister, ciara. her mother, angie, worked as a middle school music teacher and her father, joshua, was a construction worker.

 ⠀⠀  ⠀she became interested in music early on, her mother teaching her how to play guitar and piano as soon as she was old enough. when nakyung wanted to be a singer “just like stevie nicks” at eight-years-old, angie put her in vocal lessons.

 ⠀⠀  ⠀after being persuaded by her best friend, she joins the free ballet classes at her school with her. she starts to take dance and her vocals more seriously, finding it more fun than instruments. 

 ⠀⠀  ⠀when she’s thirteen, her parents tell her and her siblings that her mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer the year before. they wanted to wait to see if chemotherapy would help. angie had gotten laid off from her job, leaving joshua the only financial support. 

 ⠀⠀  ⠀for more financial stability and emotions support, the lee family moved from canada to south korea to stay with angie’s parents. nicole didn’t even have time to say goodbye to her friends.

 ⠀⠀  ⠀nicole, now going by nakyung, didn’t make very much friends in her new school and kept mostly to herself. she got a job under the table as a waitress to help her parents with bills, telling her family she was at a dance studio by her school.

 ⠀⠀  ⠀while working, she was scouted by pledis entertainment. despite her parents thinking it was sketchy and cult-like, she auditioned and was accepted. as her brother was going to seoul national university, she moved to seoul with him to train at pledis.

 ⠀⠀  ⠀in 2016, nakyung’s parents announced that angie was in remission. she started working as a teacher again after becoming healthier.

 ⠀⠀  ⠀nakyung was in the final line-up for pledis’ upcoming girl group, but was pulled out due to ‘not being ready’. she almost left the company until her mother convinced her to stay and become better.

 ⠀⠀  ⠀with no news of a new pledis girl group, nakyung volunteered herself to join mnet’s survival show, produce 48. she would end up placing second in the last episode and debuting in temporary girl group, IZ*ONE, in 2018.

 ⠀⠀  ⠀in 2020, nakyung’s parents announced that angie’s cancer had came back— being part of the 10-20 percentage of ovarian cancer recurrence. angie would not try chemotherapy again, wanting to be with her family and go to new zealand. due to the pandemic, the family would ultimately stay in korea and not fulfill angie’s wish.

 ⠀⠀  ⠀in 2021, her mother dies and IZ*ONE disbands. nakyung is not seen for a long time, not even by her IZ*ONE members until her OST song for kdrama ‘twenty-five twenty-one’, stardust love song, was announced. she would, again, disappear.

 ⠀⠀  ⠀in 2022, it is assumed nakyung left pledis around this time as she later joins S2 entertainment after lee haein offered her a spot in ber upcoming girl group.

͙͘͡ ★ ◞  FATHER.     joshua lee was born march 13th, 1973 in daegu, south korea as lee jaehyun. the day he turned eighteen, he left his house and moved to canada with his best friend and legally changed his name to joshua lee. he met angela park in 1994 and would go on to have three children with her. the first being daniel in 1997, nicole in 2001, and ciara in 2004. he doesn’t want to be in korea when they have to move but does it for his wife. when angie dies in 2021, he completely barricades himself in their room. one day, his number is changed and all of his belongings are gone. we never find out what happened to him but he either killed himself or changed his name again and started a new life. he is referred to as ‘dad’ or ‘deadbeat’. (non affectionately)

͙͘͡ ★ ◞  MOTHER.     angela ‘angie’ lee was born on october 29th, 1975 in jeju, south korea as park jangmi. she goes by angela or angie now because she likes the name. she was studying abroad in canada when she met joshua. in 2012, she is diagnosed with ovarian cancer. together, they decide to bare the news on their shoulders alone and decide not to tell anyone unless chemotherapy doesn’t work. it begins to work, but it’s too expensive and she’s laid off. they have to move to seoul to be near her family for help. she hates the person she is while on chemo, and turns to god in her sickness and health, even when she’s in remission in 2016. she begins working again. in 2020, the cancer come back, but angie doesn’t want to be on chemo again. she wants to be with her family, in new zealand. but then they can’t go and she dies in korea. she is referred to as ‘mom’.

͙͘͡ ★ ◞  BROTHER.     daniel lee was born on august 15th, 1997 in toronto, canada. he grew up teasing his younger sisters, ever so mean to them during puberty but there for them when they were upset. his relationship with his parents wasn’t so great, always noting a difference in the way they brought him up compared to his sisters. when he was eighteen, he left for seoul national university in 2015 with his sister. he now works as a cyber security engineer. he is referred to as ‘daniel’, ‘danny’ or ‘dumbass’. (affectionately)

͙͘͡ ★ ◞  SISTER.     ciara lee was born on november 3rd, 2004 in ontario, canada. she grew up wanting to be everything like her sister, wanting to be around her constantly. she slightly grew up in nakyung’s shadow, but that didn’t matter to her— it just made her want to be her even more. she wants to become an idol just like her older sister— and she will. she currently lives with their aunt, sooyoung, and her girlfriend, bora, in busan, south korea. she is referred to as ‘chaeyoung’ or ‘cee’ or ‘ciara’.

͙͘͡ ★ ◞  MATERNAL GRANDMOTHER.     park seoyoung was born on january 19th, 1955 in busan, south korea. she met lee hojin in 1972 and shortly married him a few months later the same year. they would go on to have three children, one boy, two girls. in 1996, seoyoung and hojin moved to chungnam, south korea and settled there for the rest of their lives. in 2017, her health begins to decline. in 2018, she dies in her sleep peacefully. she is referred to as ‘할머니’ (halmoni).

͙͘͡ ★ ◞  MATERNAL GRANDFATHER.     park hojin was born on may 12th, 1949 in ulsan, south korea. after his father died during the korean war, his mother moved them to busan. he met seoyoung in 1972, marrying her and having three children with her. in 1996, he and seoyoung moved to chungnam. in 2001, he suffered from a heart attack. he is currently retired, but used to work as a contractor.

͙͘͡ ★ ◞  PATERNAL GRANDMOTHER.     jung yeonhee was born on july 1st, 1954. she never tried to protect her son from her husband, but joshua was soft on her and it took a lot of him to leave her behind. after jihyuk died in 1994, she tried to find jaehyun, as she knew him, but failed. she later settled in jeju, south korea in 2000 and died of a car accident in 2011. 

͙͘͡ ★ ◞  PATERNAL AUNT.     lee eunbyul was born on december 28th, 1981. her brother was nine years older than her and never cared enough to talk to her, despite the two having more in common than he thought. she was relieved when their brother left and then her father died. when her mother tried to look for her brother who never even wanted them, she grew angry and began to resent her mother and her brother even more.

Bernie Sanders Introduces Long COVID Moonshot Legislation

This legislation "provides $1 billion in mandatory funding per year for 10 years to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to support Long COVID research, the urgent pursuit of treatments, and the expansion of care for patients across the country." Announcement on Sander's twitter and the Long COVID Moonshot website.

This announcement references the number 22 million for adults affected by Long COVID in the US but that number is certainly much higher; in 2022 the CDC reported that 7.5% of US adults have Long COVID and that number can only have increased.

Here is an article published today on PBS if you need a primer or a refresher on what Long COVID is and why everyone needs to care about it. From the article:

"Long COVID is a complex chronic condition that can result in more than 200 health effects across multiple body systems. These include:

Heart disease

Neurologic problems such as cognitive impairment, strokes and dysautonomia. This is a category of disorders that affect the body’s autonomic nervous system – nerves that regulate most of the body’s vital mechanisms such as blood pressure, heart rate and temperature.

I know it's easy to give into despair but THERE IS HOPE for the future! For decreasing transmission of COVID-19, for developing preventatives against Long COVID, and for treating Long COVID. To highlight just a few of the possible pathways to prevention and treatment being currently researched:

The possibility of using antivirals to treat not just Long COVID but any autoimmune disease

The development of N95 masks that can sense SARS-CoV-2 in exhaled breath using a printed immunosensor

A nasal vaccine that halts transmission of SARS-CoV-2 (though does not stop the user from developing COVID-19)

A Japanese research team is looking to treat COVID-19 by using embryonic stem cells to target the virus

This is an incredibly small collection of studies researching potential treatments but they themselves and the decades of research they are built on had to be funded. In fact, since the pandemic began, more than 24,000 scientific publications about COVID-19 have been published, making it the most researched health condition in any four years of recorded human history.

So there is hope! But all this research needs money. Money that Long COVID Moonshot will provide. And while we wait for research to bear fruit, that $1 billion per year will also be crucial in caring for those suffering from Long COVID in the meantime.

“Nathan Lewin’s mother kept up with the news. Unlike other Jews in Poland, she had been born in the Netherlands, and even attended the University of Berlin, before marrying a Polish Jew — Lewin’s dad — and immigrating. Because of this experience, she was perhaps more aware than others around her of the threat of Adolf Hitler.

“’She made my father promise that when and if Hitler crossed the border into Poland, we would immediately try to escape and leave Poland,” Lewin, now 84, said Monday at a virtual reception via Zoom.

“When Hitler invaded in September 1939, they did just that. Lewin, then 3 years old, was “carried in the night through the forest” to Lithuania with his parents, maternal grandmother and an uncle. But Lewin’s mother knew they still weren’t safe. A Dutch diplomat told the family they would be allowed into Curaçao without visas, but they still needed a transit visa from another country to get there.”

This is how Gillian Brockell, writing in the January 27, 2021 edition of the Washington Post, started her article. She was writing about just these few people, but the family of Nathan Lewin is part of a far larger story. There were tens of thousands of Jews stranded in the path of the Nazi war machine as it marched eastward, and all of them were seeking any form of aid available. Too many would fail in those efforts, and most of those would die in the Nazi work camps.

This was at a time following the July 1938 Évian Conference, held at Évian-les-Bains, France, when Jews across Europe were growing frantic. The conference had come at the urging of United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who had hoped to obtain commitments from other nations to increase the number of threatened Jewish refugees they would accept. Roosevelt was keen to aid these refugees considering his own nation’s immigration laws limiting the quota of refugees admitted into the United States.

Representatives from 32 countries attended, along with 24 humanitarian organizations present as observers who were not permitted to speak. Golda Meir was present, but she was not permitted to speak either, or submit anything in writing. The Soviet Union refused to take part in the conference and instead held direct talks with the Nazis. The conference was doomed from the start. With Roosevelt unable to persuade the U.S. Congress to yield, other nations also balked. Only the Dominican Republic agreed to accept any significant number of these refugees. It was a double blow. Hitler used the failure as a propaganda tool.

The Lewin’s were among the first to find the path to safety, thanks to the caring heart of one man. It can never be known with certainty the full scope of this man’s humanity. The number of travel visas he rubberstamped is unknown and estimates vary greatly. The lowest estimates put that number around 2,700 and some sources claim it was as high as 6,000 — all saved by this one man who acted when others would not, and in violation of direct orders.

He was not the only person intervening in Hitler’s diabolical plans to exterminate an entire race of people. Oskar Schindler, the German factory owner glorified by Steven Spielberg in his award-winning movie is another. He is know to have saved 1,200 Jews. Then there was a Chinese diplomat, Ho Feng-Shan, who, issued transit visas for Shanghai to all requesting them, even to those wishing to travel elsewhere but needing a visa to leave Nazi Germany. The number of these visas is estimated to be “in the thousands,” according to a CNN segment by Wayne Chang, broadcast July 24, 2015.

There were many thousands of others who put their lives at risk for far fewer people. Saving even one life made a difference, and all of these deserve to be known and celebrated for their humanitarian efforts, always in the face of consequence ̶ but outside the very few recognized by history, we will never know their names.

This story is about one — a Japanese man. His job was that of vice-consul of the Japanese Consulate in Kaunas, Lithuania. At least overtly that was his job. His actual duty was to spy on the Soviets and the Germans and report on troop movements. He was to be the eyes and ears for his home country. Even though the two nations were allies, the Japanese didn’t trust Hitler.

To maintain his cover, he performed functionary tasks at the embassy. One of those functions was to issue visas permitting travel through Japan. There was a strict set of protocols for issuing these visas, yet in the summer of 1940, when refugees came to him with forged visas for Curaçao and other Dutch possessions in the Americas, he decided to facilitate their escape to safety. He granted 10-day transit visas to refugees who held Curaçao destination visas.

As the days passed and the desperation heightened, he began writing the visas for those with no known destination. Before closing his consulate in the fall of 1940, he began issuing visas to refugees who lacked travel papers of any kind. He reportedly spent 20 hours a day that month writing as many visas as he could and was still writing them on the train platform when he was evacuated.

According to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, he had officially issued some 1,800 visas before receiving a cable from Tokyo: "You must make sure that they [refugees] have finished their procedure for their entry visas and they must possess the travel money or the money that they need during their stay in Japan. Otherwise, you should not give them the transit visa."

He responded to the cable admitting that he had issued visas to people who had not completed all the requirements. He justified this by explaining that Japan was the only transit country available for those going in the direction of the United States, and his visas were needed for departure from the Soviet Union. Sugihara suggested that travelers who arrived in the Soviet port of Vladivostok with incomplete paperwork should not be allowed to board ships for Japan. Tokyo was insistent and wrote back that the Soviet Union insisted that Japan honor all visas already issued by its consulates. Failure to follow orders would be in violation of diplomatic agreements.

Yet he could not turn his back on the desperation that stood before him, so he ignored his orders and by the time he left Lithuania he had issued several thousand visas and additional travel papers for children travelling with families. It all came to an end when the Soviet Union stopped granting exit visas. He left Lithuania in early September 1940.

His name was Chiune Sugihara. He was a New Year’s and a millennial baby, born on the first day of January 1, 1900. He was the first Japanese diplomat posted to Lithuania — and he would eventually be dubbed, “The Japanese Schindler.”

Born to a middle-class family in Japan's Gifu Prefecture on the main Japanese Island of Honshu, Sugihara is sometimes also referred to as "Sempo." Sugihara graduated from an exclusive school. The Harbin Gakuin academy was Japan's training center for Soviet experts. His first posting was as the director of the foreign ministry in the Japanese puppet state of Manchukuo.

He became fluent in Russian, learning the language from Russian immigrants while he was in Harbin, Manchuria. It was there where he received his first orders to act as a spy. He was to provide Japan with intelligence on Soviet and German troop movements in the Baltic region.

Sugihara exchanged information with members of the Polish underground in Lithuania and in 1940 aided in their escape by issuing them visas for transit through Japan. The situation in Lithuania became dire after Soviet forces occupied the state in June 1940. This became apparent following a wave of arrests by secret police. Western Europe was engulfed in war, making the safest escape for Lithuanian refugees the eastern route through the Soviet Union to Japan.

According to Gillian Brockell, when Lewin’s family went to the Japanese Consulate in late July 1940, “Mr. Sugihara did not hesitate.” In fact, Sugihara did ask his superiors in Japan what he should do. When they told him not to give travel documents to the Jews, he decided to help them anyway. With a Japanese transit visa, the Soviets would allow the refugees to take a train across Siberia to Japan.

“He didn’t care if they were citizens of the Netherlands or Poland or Germany or Lithuania. He knew they were human beings who had to be rescued and whose lives were at stake,” Lewin said. All three of Lewin’s other grandparents were killed in the Holocaust.

It is hard to know exactly how many Sugihara saved — not everyone who got a visa from him was able to use it, and others used the visa for multiple family members — but some estimate it could be as many as 6,000. That included the students of the Mir Yeshiva, who, with Sugihara’s help, survived the war in a ghetto for stateless people in Japanese-occupied Shanghai, while every other religious school in Eastern Europe was decimated.

One survivor, Lucille Szepsenwol Camhi, told the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum about her visit to Sugihara. “He asked us where our parents were. We told him. My father was not living. My mother has no papers. And he looked very sympathetic at us and he just stamped, gave us the visa right there on the spot.” She and her sister began to cry and thank him profusely, “And he just raised his hand, like saying, ‘It’s okay.’ And that’s it,” she said. They took the Trans-Siberian Express train to Japan, and freedom.

Sugihara left Lithuania in early September 1940. The Japanese transferred him first to Prague and then to Bucharest. Romania was a German ally, so sending him there meant he would be imprisoned. When the Soviet army marched through the Balkans in 1944, Sugihara together with other diplomats from enemy nations were arrested. Soviet authorities held him and his family, under house arrest, for the next three years.

Sugihara was held as a prisoner of war for more than a year after World War II ended. When they were freed and returned to Japan in 1947, his superiors forced him out of his job because of his actions seven years earlier. “You know what you did. Now you need to leave the ministry,” he was told, according to his son Nobuki Sugihara in the Times of Israel in 2019.

Donald Gartman, director of the United Jewish Federation of Utah, says, “When he returned to Japan, he was in disgrace. Not able to find dignified work, he worked at odd jobs to support his family. Sugihara never spoke about his dismissal because it was too painful for him. He also never spoke about his deeds. Sugihara obeyed his conscience about what he thought was the right thing to do and not the directives of his country. Even as he was on the train that was pulling away from Lithuania on his way to prison, he was still signing papers as fast as he could and throwing them out of the window.”

According to Brockell, “For a long time, Sugihara lived an anonymous life and had no idea how many people he had helped. But in 1968, he was contacted by a visa recipient who had tracked him down. A visit to Israel followed, and shortly before his death in 1986, Yad Vashem, Israel’s official Holocaust memorial, honored him with the Righteous Among the Nations title, which is given to non-Jews who risked their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust.”

When asked later why he did it, Sugihara said, “It is the kind of sentiments anyone would have when he sees refugees face to face, begging with tears in their eyes. He just cannot help but sympathize with them. I knew that somebody would surely complain about me in the future. But I myself thought this would be the right thing to do,” according to Hillel Levine in his book about Sugihara.

Today, many of the descendants of those with Sugihara visas with numbers between 40,000 and 100,000 can thank Sugihara for their lives. Some of the families of those survivors still have that scrap of paper with Chiune Sugihara's signature still visible.

“After the Lewins escape through Japan, the family resettled in New York City. Nathan Lewin went to Harvard Law School and eventually became deputy assistant attorney general for the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division,” said Brockell. “On Monday, he joined B’nai Brith International and the Combat Anti-Semitism Movement to honor Sugihara ahead of Holocaust Remembrance Day. He recalled the teachings of his rabbis that one ‘should not do a good deed with the expectation that you will be rewarded, but for the good deed itself.’”

“That,” he said, “is what Chiune Sugihara did.”

Driver Profiles: Oscar Piastri

Driving Style: Piastri is most well known for his calm demeanor, and it is incredibly rare to see him ruffled. This also translates to his driving, which is composed, methodical, and precise. He is one of the cleanest drivers on the grid right now (rare for a rookie) and since the Mclaren car started having more boost this year, he has shown to be ambitious. As he spends more time in F1, he is beginning to gain recognition for his overtakes. Many have noted that he overtakes when people least expect him to, essentially meaning he is not really following the typical overtake playbook. We saw this happen against Leclerc in Baku 2024 and Norris in Monza 2024. While he is still new to the grid, he has shown he can adapt very quickly to high levels of competition. My only criticism is that he tends to not qualify particularly well. If he could fix this one aspect, he would be on the podium (at least) every race with that speedy Mclaren car.

History:

Son of a wealthy businessman, Piastri started his karting career in 2011. By 2014 he had gone professional, and competed in various Australian races and championships. 2015 he began competing in European and other CIK-FIA karting championships . In 2016 he moved to the UK in order to further his career.

In 2016 Piastri landed his first big sponsor, which allowed him to enter into single seater racing for the first time. Later in 2016, Piastri made his single-seater debut in selected rounds of the Formula 4 UAE Championship  and claimed two podiums, taking sixth in the championship. He would go on to take part in F3, GP3, and F2. When he took part in British F4 championship he took 2nd place home. For the next few years he would make appearances in various different series and championships, but never gain himself a title.

In 2020, PREMA Racing, the reigning F3 champions, signed Piastri for the upcoming season. It was during this season that his potential really came out, as he regularly found himself on podiums and on the top step. This led to him clinching the F3 World Championship for 2020 with a tight three-way battle. At the end of this season, Piastri announced he would be graduating up to F2 with PREMA Racing. He would go on to win 6 GP's for the 2021 season, and joined Charles Leclerc on the short list of drivers who won the F2 championship in their rookie year.

In 2020 Piastri joined Renault Sports Academy, and was the reserve drive for Alpine (Renault) in 2022. After Fernando Alonso left Alpine for Aston Martin, it was assumed by most (including Alpine) that Piastri would be part of their driver lineup in 2023. This, however, was proven to be false as Piastri had already signed a contract with Mclaren for the 2023 season, replacing Daniel Riccardo.

The 2023 season at Mclaren was his first official year as an F1 driver. He had a rather impressive rookie year, getting up to 11th in the championship by the end. He acheived his first podium at the 2023 Japanese GP, taking third behind his teamate. Shortly after he received his highest finish in Qatar, taking 2nd place. While he did not match his teammate Lando Norris points wise, he was universally praised. Halfway through the season he reupped his contract with Mclaren, extending to 2026.

The 2024 season saw Piastri get his maiden win. Unfortunately for the driver, his win at the 2024 Hungarian GP was doused in controversy, as a very public mess with team orders led fans to say the win was given to him by his teammate. He went on to get his 2nd win at the 2024 Azerbaijan GP (Baku) where he held off Charles Leclerc for 1st after a much admired overtake. This win was his first one without the cloud of controversy hanging over it. All in all, the 2024 season has shown that Piastri is a competitive driver. He finished 4th in the championship, and helped his team achieve their first WCC win since teh 90s.

Major Races:

2023 Japanese GP - Piastri's first podium displayed that he could battle with the top drivers. His consistency and control throughout the race are what helped him get up on the steps.

2023 Qatar GP - Piastri's second podium and highest finish in 2023. His composure was noted as a huge boon in this stressful race, and he only benefitted from the previous days sprint win. Wins always give drivers more confidence.

2024 Hungarian GP - A controversial win to be sure, but Piastri excelled in this race. He overtook his teammate early on in the race and held tight to the lead, only losing it after a Mclaren strat failure. His teammate was then ordered to give the position back, which led to Piastri's win, but nonetheless it was an excellent race by Piastri

2024 Azerbaijan GP - By far Piastri's most impressive race. Baku is an intimidating circuit, but Piastri took to it with ease. His overtake on Charles Leclerc mid race (which in itself was impressive) allowed him to stay ahead of the Ferrari. He then went on for a majority of the race with Leclerc less than a second behind him and putting pressure on. It was Piastri's calm head that won the race, as well as the minimal mistakes he made, not giving Leclerc a single chance to get by.
