alabama , born karawek at birth , was born to a thai politician and his mistress . naturally , the last thing he wanted was for it to get out that he’d been unfaithful to his wife and so when his mistress turned up pregnant he sent her off on her way with a bundle of cash ( expecting she’d end the pregnancy ) and the issue would be settled . she did no such thing though , wanting to capitalize on having the child of a prominent figure . her plans quickly fell by the wayside though when she realized she simply was not cut out for motherhood , no amount of money could make her even slightly decent at it . despite that she wanted the best for her daughter , even if she couldn’t give her that . at just under six months , she put her daughter up for closed adoption . the levington’s , a prominent hollywood couple who were sure they’d never be able to have children of their own at the time , wanted to start a family . the second they came across the little girl , they fell absolutely in love and the adoption process started from there . changing her name to the name at the top of mrs. levington’s dream board , they made a point to include a part of her given name at birth as her middle name though , a thanks to her biological parents for giving them their baby girl in a way .
the eldest of what would become known as the levington clan , life for alabama was picture perfect . a close ( enough ) bond with all of her siblings and two loving parents . not to mention the money and fame that came with her last name , there wasn’t much for the young girl to really ask for but that didn’t stop her from doing so . known to never really be satisfied , she’s always thought there was something bigger and better around the corner and can’t seem to stomach the idea of anyone getting such a thing over her . call it entitlement , if you’d like .
growing up in los angeles didn’t do her any favors , submerged in a world were who you are and what you look like was all that really mattered . her mother was the first to jump on any chance to make her precious little girl the absolute best . taught at a young age to always step out of the house like you were walking the catwalk . you’d catch alabama dead before you ever caught her out and about in sweatpants ( to be honest , i don’t even think she owns a pair of sweatpants ) . the world really got a glimpse into how image obsessed the young girl was when she got a nose job for her sixteenth birthday . truthfully it was like some sort of right of passage among her highschool friends back then . a group of private school girls who were more cliquey than anyone could really stomach .
for as long as anyone could remember she was the most pristine of her siblings , the one who always put her best foot forward . that all changed at seventeen though after a more public break up took place , she was left distraught . the only way she knew to numb her feelings was to fall into the party scene . she drank more than her body could handle , sobered up with lines , and didn’t get home until the sun was coming up . it was a rather dark point in her life . the only silver lining being she could stop when she wanted to ( no , seriously ) , she just didn’t want to at that time . her parents only taking it seriously when she was arrested at school for possession of drugs ( truth is , the drugs weren’t even hers she was just taking the fall for a friend but that’s something that’s never gone public ) . once they bailed her out , they almost immediately shipped her off to some rehab facility in malibu . the doctors there quickly realizing they weren’t dealing with an addict by any means just a teenage girl who was upset and lashing out . it’s unfortunately a trait no one has been able to help her unlearn , to this day she’s known to be rather difficult , especially when she feels she has been done wrong . she will lash out - violently , verbally , you never really know if venomous words or a shockingly chin rocking hit are going to come from her .
after her stint in rehab , she switched highschools ( due to being expelled ) and being her quickly found herself a new group of friends at the top of the food chain , she’s a natural social climber and doesn’t really need to put too much effort into doing so . soon enough she graduated and let’s be real her grades were good enough to get her a diploma but that’s about it . college had never been in her plans and thankfully she already had a career lined up for herself in race car driving which she’d picked up around the age of thirteen when she started kart racing . it started off as her chasing an adrenaline rush but quickly turned into so much more , after her first major competition as a teenager people around her began making claims she could break records for women in the world of racing . she has gone on to proving them all right with her career breaking barriers and winning races no woman before her ever has . alabama is the first to say the way she carries herself on the tracks is much like the way she carries herself throughout life . a women in a male dominated environment who refuses to take on the spot as anything less than just as dominating as her male counterparts , unafraid of whether that makes her too much in anyone’s eyes or not .
sometime in 2017 , she was reached out to by a man who claimed to be her biological father . a shock to her system , not because she didn’t know she was adopted ( that much was clear to her ; and her parents had been rather upfront about it ) but because she knew it was a closed adoption . convinced her whole life they wanted nothing to do with her and by that point in her life she’d come to terms with that . he had disclosed that he only had so much longer on the earth ( he was very sick ) and wanted to meet the daughter that he never got to know . initially she ignored him entirely . it was her turn to shun him from her life -- she couldn’t miss someone she never knew and she refused to be disloyal to her parents , the two people in the world who chose her and loved her . after a few months though her dad explained to her that he thought it’d be best for her to meet her biological father . she sat on the idea for a couple weeks before deciding to reach out . a few days later she was on a flight to thailand . what was only supposed to be a weekend trip turned out to be a month and a half long . she connected with him and a piece of her wanted to be there for him in his last days . soon after his funeral she returned back to the states . going back to life as she knew it pretty much without a bat of her eyes . given a sort of closure she never realized she needed in her time in thailand ( even though her biological mother has never reached out , although before he passed he did give alabama the woman’s name ) .
the tabloids often ��have alot to say about her and her antics but one that can never be said about this nepotism baby is that she doesn’t hold loyalty and honesty in the highest regard . a true rarity in the world she lives in but alabama will fall on a sword for those closest to her ( i.e her arrest back in highschool ) , she may have a cool hard shell covering her at all times but she cares immensely about her family and those she deems her friends . she’s the girl who is still close with most of her childhood friends just simply because you never turn your back on someone ( unless they give you reason to ) .
known for having a terrible track record when it comes to the men in her life , leaving her to be deemed a scorn women by many tabloids at just the age of twenty - six . her bad luck started at seventeen and has recently been topped off with her rather distasteful split with ford , in which the whole world watched him cheat on her . to say she is the leading champion of the men suck club would be an understatement . she doesn’t trust men to save a life and frankly she feels she’s entitled to those feelings .

Dodge Charger americano e brasileiro, o Torino da Argentina, o Esportivo Dino da Fiat. Esses e outros carros na segunda parte dessa reportagem que traz automóveis homônimos, mundo a fora
CHARGER

Eis aqui, dois carros diferentes de um mesmo fabricante.
O Dodge Charger nasceu nos Estados Unidos em 1966, para brigar com outros concorrentes ‘musculosos’, como o Pontiac GTO e o Chevrolet Chevelle, ambos da General Motors. A versão de lançamento era um fastback cheio de estilo, embora os mais desejados e famosos hoje em dia sejam os da segunda geração, fabricados de 1968 a 1970.
Já o Charger brasileiro tem estilo único, baseado no Dodge Dart Coupê lançado um ano antes (que por sua vez, era baseada na Linha Dart ‘made in USA’). Mas não deve nada em beleza e esportividade à versão americana, de quem herdou os característicos faróis escondidos pela grade.

Ferrari Dino 206 GT
Em 1965 a Ferrari precisava homologar junto à FIA seu recém lançado motor V6 na Fórmula 2. Para isso era necessário que ele equipasse um automóvel com produção mínima de 500 unidades.
Mas a fabricante italiana de superesportivos tinha ciência de que talvez não conseguisse chegar a tal número com seu Ferrari Dino 206 GT (aliás, esse carro não era oficialmente um Ferrari. Mas isso já é outra história!) .
Coube então à Fiat desenvolver um modelo para o uso do motor V6 da Ferrari. Acabaram saindo dois: o Fiat Dino Spider foi desenhado pelo Studio Pininfarina (o mesmo do 206 GT) e lançado em 1966. Já o Fiat Dino Coupê nasceu um ano depois e levou assinatura de Giorgetto Giugiaro.
Então, na prática temos três modelos batizados de Dino.

A famosa tribo norte-americana deu nome à igualmente famosa pick-up fabricada pela GMC/Chevrolet na década de 1950.
Duas décadas depois, a britânica Austin lançaria um compacto com motor 1.3 de 4 cilindros e chassi do Austin/Morris 1100. Ao contrário da pick-up americana, esse sedan não fez muito sucesso, tendo vendido pouco mais de 21 mil unidades de 1971 a 1978.

Quem já passou dos 50 anos se lembra da série policial americana Starsky & Hutch que teve quatro temporadas. Vai lembrar também do carro vermelho com uma larga faixa branca que atravessava o teto e invadia as laterais. O carro em questão, é um Ford Grand Torino 1974, uma variação do Torino, que nasceu em 1968, como uma versão de luxo do Fairlane, com carrocerias sedan, SW e um fastback GT, que era uma espécie de versão ‘anabolizada’ do Mustang.
Enquanto isso, aqui na nossa vizinha, a Argentina, em 1967 saiam da linha de montagem da IKA (Industrias Kaiser Argentina), os primeiros exemplares de outro Torino. Modelo de grande sucesso por vários anos, era baseado no americano AMC Rambler, com redesenho Pininfarina. A partir de 1975, com o fim das atividades da IKA, a Renault assumiu a fabricação do Torino argentino.

JAVELIN
AMC Javelin
Jowett Javelin
Nascida da fusão da Nash com a Hudson em 1954 a American Motors Corporation — AMC, apesar das dificuldades, sempre procurou brigar de igual para igual com as três gigantes americanas. Então, a AMC não tardou em lançar sua versão de ‘Pony Car’, segmento esportivo que surgiu com o Ford Mustang e do Chevrolet Camaro. Javelin era o nome do coupê de frente longa e traseira curta, lançado em 1967.
Duas décadas antes, vinha ao mundo outro Javelin. Um bem comportado e pouco potente sedan criado pela Jowett, uma fabricante de automóveis inglesa pouco conhecida, mas que começou suas atividades em 1906. O Javelin, aliás foi um de seus últimos lançamentos e encerrou a produção junto com a empresa, que faliu em 1954.

VW Fox (Voyage)
Audi 80 (Fox)
Com esse nome, existem três modelos, todos aparentados. Além do subcompacto Volkswagen contemporâneo que vemos todos os dias nas ruas brasileiras, Fox foi o nome de um certo Audi, quando destinado ao mercado americano. Repare na foto. Ele não te lembra algum outro carro? É que ele nasceu na Alemanha em 1966 com o nome original de Audi 80 e sua segunda geração (B1 – 1972/1978) foi a base do Passat brasileiro.
E o terceiro modelo? É o nosso Volkswagen Voyage, que no final dos anos 1980 passou a ser exportado para os Estados Unidos também com o nome de Fox. Foram vendidos para lá até 1993, cerca de 200 mil unidades, incluindo o Fox SW, que nada mais era do que a nossa velha Parati.
SEVEN
Austin Seven
Austin Seven
Outro caso de homônimos do mesmo fabricante.
Pouca gente sabe, mas quando foi lançado em 1959, o Austin/Morris Mini se chamava Austin Seven. Na propaganda, o fabricante inclusive fazia uma brincadeira com a grafia do nome, substituindo o ‘V’ pelo número 7. Mas não demorou para o carro ser apelidado de Mini. Então era a hora de adotar oficialmente esse nome.
O nome Seven, foi dado inicialmente a ele em homenagem a outro Austin, fabricado a partir de 1922 a 1939. Apelidado de ‘Baby Austin’ e foi um dos modelos mais populares da Inglaterra em sua época, fazendo sucesso também em países vizinhos. Com as devidas proporções, este primeiro Austin Seven representou para a Inglaterra o que o Ford T representou para os Estados Unidos. Foi fabricado sob licença na Alemanha com a marca BMW e no Japão pela Nissan.
CONTINENTAL
Lincoln Continental
Bentley Continental
Continental. Sem dúvida a mais famosa linha de carros da Lincoln, a divisão de luxo da Ford. Lançado em 1939, como uma encomenda pessoal de Edsel Ford, o Continental lançou a moda do estepe instalado sobre o parachoque traseiro, o que não por acaso é conhecido como ‘Kit Continental’. O Lincoln Continental é fabricado até hoje, tendo sua produção sido interrompida somente quatro vezes nesses 80 anos.
Mas a Europa também tem o seu Continental. E ele é até mais sofisticado que o modelo da Lincoln. Ao longo das décadas, a aristocrática marca britânica Bentley lançou alguns modelos batizados de Continental. O primeiro surgiu em 1952. Desde então, houve versões do Bentley Continental nas décadas de 1960, 1980, 1990, 2000 e até os dias de hoje, com o chiquérrimo esportivo Continental GT 2020, nas versões coupê e conversível.

one of six of the levington clan , life for alabama was picture perfect . a close ( enough ) bond with all of her siblings and two loving parents . not to mention the money and fame that came with her last name , there wasn’t much for the young girl to really ask for but that didn’t stop her from doing so . known to never really be satisfied , she’s always thought there was something bigger and better around the corner and can’t seem to stomach the idea of anyone getting such a thing over her . call it entitlement , if you’d like .
growing up in los angeles didn’t do her any favors , submerged in a world were who you are and what you look like was all that really mattered . her mother was the first to jump on any chance to make her precious little girl the absolute best . taught at a young age to always step out of the house like you were walking the catwalk . you’d catch alabama dead before you ever caught her out and about in sweatpants ( to be honest , i don’t even think she owns a pair of sweatpants ) . the world really got a glimpse into how image obsessed the young girl was when she got a nose job for her sixteenth birthday . truthfully it was like some sort of right of passage among her highschool friends back then . a group of private school girls who were more cliquey than anyone could really stomach .
for as long as anyone could remember she was the most pristine of her siblings , the one who always put her best foot forward . that all changed at seventeen though after a more public break up took place , she was left distraught . the only way she knew to numb her feelings was to fall into the party scene . she drank more than her body could handle , sobered up with lines , and didn’t get home until the sun was coming up . it was a rather dark point in her life . the only silver lining being she could stop when she wanted to ( no , seriously ) , she just didn’t want to at that time . her parents only taking it seriously when she was arrested at school for possession of drugs ( truth is , the drugs weren’t even hers she was just taking the fall for a friend but that’s something that’s never gone public ) . once they bailed her out , they almost immediately shipped her off to some rehab facility in malibu . the doctors there quickly realizing they weren’t dealing with an addict by any means just a teenage girl who was upset and lashing out . it’s unfortunately a trait no one has been able to help her unlearn , to this day she’s known to be rather difficult , especially when she feels she has been done wrong . she will lash out - violently , verbally , you never really know if venomous words or a shockingly chin rocking hit are going to come from her .
after her stint in rehab , she switched highschools ( due to being expelled ) and being her quickly found herself a new group of friends at the top of the food chain , she’s a natural social climber and doesn’t really need to put too much effort into doing so . soon enough she graduated and let’s be real her grades were good enough to get her a diploma but that’s about it . college had never been in her plans and thankfully she already had a career lined up for herself in race car driving which she’d picked up around the age of thirteen when she started kart racing . it started off as her chasing an adrenaline rush but quickly turned into so much more , after her first major competition as a teenager people around her began making claims she could break records for women in the world of racing . she has gone on to proving them all right with her career breaking barriers and winning races no woman before her ever has . alabama is the first to say the way she carries herself on the tracks is much like the way she carries herself throughout life . a women in a male dominated environment who refuses to take on the spot as anything less than just as dominating as her male counterparts , unafraid of whether that makes her too much in anyone’s eyes or not .
the tabloids often have alot to say about her and her antics but one that can never be said about this nepotism baby is that she doesn’t hold loyalty and honesty in the highest regard . a true rarity in the world she lives in but alabama will fall on a sword for those closest to her ( i.e her arrest back in highschool ) , she may have a cool hard shell covering her at all times but she cares immensly about her family and those she deems her friends . she’s the girl who is still close with most of her childhood friends just simply because you never turn your back on someone ( unless they give you reason to ) .
known for having a terrible track record when it comes to the men in her life , leaving her to be deemed a scorn women by many tabloids at just the age of twenty - six . her bad luck started at seventeen and has recently been topped off with her rather distasteful split with ford , in which the whole world watched him cheat on her . to say she is the leading champion of the men suck club would be an understatement . she doesn’t trust men to save a life and frankly she feels she’s entitled to those feelings .

Le tout nouveau Ford F-150 et plus encore !

Voici donc le premier de plusieurs reportages à venir sur le tout nouveau F-150 de Ford. Pourquoi plusieurs? Parce que Ford offre cette camionnette en tellement de versions qu’il est impossible de toutes les couvrir en un seul article…à moins que ce soit dans un livre. Qui plus est, cette fois-ci, le constructeur américain s’est vraiment défoncé pour créer un véhicule tellement polyvalent qu’il vient de placer la barre très haute pour la concurrence. Imaginez, après les F-150 de base (de véritables outils), les F-150 de luxe, les F-150 de grand luxe, les F-150 hybrides, les F-150 de sport (Raptor, bien entendu), il y aura aussi éventuellement des F-150 totalement électriques!
Pour vraiment bien débuter cette aventure, j’ai eu l’opportunité de conduire pendant toute une semaine, une version Platinum Super Crew du Ford F-150 2021. Comme d’habitude, on débute avec une première remarque concernant l’esthétique du véhicule et dans le cas du F-150, on est rapidement porté à penser que le véhicule est tout simplement reconduit. Il ressemble tellement à celui de l’année dernière. Mais, méfiez-vous! Selon les présentateurs de Ford, aucune pièce de la carrosserie (toute aluminium) du nouveau pick-up F-150 ne devrait faire sur les versions précédentes. Toutefois, les designers de Ford expliquent cet exercice par les consommateurs consultés lors des cliniques alors que ceux-ci demandaient au constructeur de réviser le F-150, oui, mais surtout de ne pas le modifier au point où il ne serait plus reconnaissable! Donc, les designers de Ford ont décidé d’en conserver la silhouette connue! Malgré tout, après quelques minutes à comparer les deux modèles de 2020 et de 2021, on y voit vraiment la différence!

Dois-je vous décrire toutes les configurations possibles des F-150? En fait, je vous rappellerai juste que ces pick-up sont disponibles en version courte, allongée ou très longue avec cabine régulière, SuperCab ou SuperCrew avec caisse de 5,5, 6,5 et 8,0 pieds en plus du choix de la propulsion arrière ou de la motricité aux quatre roues sur commande et avec un V6 de base de 3,3 litres, un (surprenant) V6 EcoBoost de 2,7 litres, un maintenant légendaire V6 EcoBoost de 3,5 litres (il a même servi dans la voiture exotique Ford GT qui a gagné sa catégorie dans tellement de courses incluant les 24 Heures du Mans) et le V8 de 5,0 litres semblable à celui des Mustang. Ajoutez à cela un V6 turbodiesel de 3,0 litres et, à partir de 2021, le V6 EcoBoost de 3,5 litres hybride appelé PowerBoost (on attend la version toute électrique que l’année prochaine). Toutefois, aussi bizarre que ceci puisse paraître, il n’y a qu’une seule boîte de vitesses au catalogue, une automatique à 10 rapports! (Oui, c’est cette boîte auto que l’on retrouve avec leurs propres modifications sous les Mustang, les Camaro et les Silverado-Sierra!).
Le véhicule d’un bleu (très) foncé qui m’a été confié, soit un F-150 SuperCrew Platinum FX4 à quatre portes et quatre roues motrices sur commande avait, sous son capot, le fameux V6 EcoBoost de 3,5 litres ce qui devrait représenter une configuration relativement populaire auprès des clients de F-150.

Si l’extérieur, aussi changé soit-il, ne vous semble pas si original, jetez un coup d’œil à l’intérieur. Tout y a été refait à commencer par le tableau de bord redessiné (concurrence oblige) avec une instrumentation modifiable au goût du conducteur (j’ai choisi l’affichage en gros des chiffres du compteur de vitesse et du compte-tour). Au centre, il y avait un de ces nouveaux écrans gigantesques de 12 pouces pour la radio, la navigation et surtout pour les nombreuses images produites par les caméras avant et arrière en plus des accessoires supplémentaires. On y reviendra! J’oubliais, le F-150 est livrable avec la toute dernière version SYNC 4 qui offre la compatibilité avec Apple CarPlay et Android Auto sans fil!
À quoi peut servir cette console avec couvercle à plat? (Photo Éric Descarries)
OK, je l’avoue, on parle ici d’une camionnette de plus de 80 000 $ (on sait tous que ce type de véhicule affiche un prix qui grimpe à vue d’œil avec les options) mais où pouvez-vous trouver des sièges avant ajustables qui peuvent se replier à 180 degrés sur lesquels un conducteur et son passager peuvent dormir? Ah oui! Même le coussin du siège se soulève légèrement de l’arrière pour éliminer une bosse dans le dos. Où pouvez-vous trouver une console centrale dont le couvercle se déplie à plat pour former une véritable table de travail (ou à dîner, dans mon cas) car le levier de vitesses peut se replier et se cacher dans la console pour lui donner toute la place? (Je sais, un levier à la colonne aurait réglé ce problème mais les acheteurs de F-150 tiennent plus à un levier à la console!).

Mais, je n’ai pas fini! Mon Platinum d’essai avait toutes ces caméras avant et arrière qui peuvent servir à des excursions hors-route (Vraiment? Hors-route avec une si grosse camionnette? C’est possible!) et une panoplie d’applications incluant, attachez-vous bien, deux prises de courant dans la caisse pour un ensemble de 2 kWh ce qui pourrait permettre l’utilisation d’outils électriques pendant des heures. J’y reviens…

Inutile de répéter qu’il y a de l’espace à revendre à l’avant voire même à l’arrière ce qui fait de ce F-150 Platinum un véritable palais roulant confortable pour les longs voyages! Et, en cas de besoin, les sièges arrière peuvent se replier et procurer un espace de chargement plat pour de gros objets qui doivent être protégés durant le transport. Ah! Il y a aussi de petits espaces de rangement cachés dans le plancher. La camionnette avait aussi des marchepieds escamotables automatiques (que l’on peut refermer manuellement par un commutateur au pied) qui en facilitaient l’accès. Ouf!

Passons maintenant à la caisse arrière (ou la benne ou le plateau, c’est selon…). Mon Platinum avait la caisse courte et normalement, on ne parle que de ses capacités de charge et de la possibilité d’un glisser un panneau de 4 x 8 à plat entre les passages de roue. Toutefois, la caisse de ce F-150 nous réservait des surprises. Tout d’abord, il est possible d’ouvrir le panneau à distance par le porte-clés. De plus, on y trouvait des points d’arrimage très utiles. Puis, pour accéder à la caisse, il y a toujours ce petit escalier escamotable avec sa rampe. Mais cette fois, il y a du nouveau! En effet, la finition intérieure du panneau est faite d’un revêtement de plastique moulé avec une règle en pouces et une autre en mesure métrique, des formes pouvant retenir un ordinateur, un gobelet et des crayons à plat, des encavures capable d’accepter des pinces de resserrement et même…un décapsuleur! Ajoutez à cela deux prises de courant dans le flanc de la caisse. Dans le cas des moteurs conventionnels, ce bloc d’alimentation est de 2,0 kWh (ce qui est nettement suffisant pour quelques appareils ou outils électriques). Si le propriétaire de F-150 a choisi la version PowerBoost hybride (une option de 4850 $), il aura droit à deux prises de 2,4 kWh ou en option (de 1000 $), un bloc de prises de 7,2 kWh ! Avec un gros réservoir d’essence et un moteur qui roule au compte-goutte pour recharger les batteries du moteur électrique, l’utilisateur pourrait avoir des heures de courant électrique ! Relativement intéressant pour l’entrepreneur ou l’amateur de caravaning ou de camping! Ah oui! Cette caisse peut aussi accepter plus de 2000 livres de charge!

De retour à la mécanique, le V6 EcoBoost de ce F-150 a gagné quelque 25 chevaux en 2021 le poussant à 400 chevaux et quelque 500 livres pied de couple. La boîte auto est à 10 rapports, on le répète, et le boîtier de transfert à deux rapports se modifie par une commande rotative au tableau de bord. Le pont arrière à verrouillage électronique affiche un rapport de 3.55. La suspension avant est indépendante mais plus d’un observateur reproche à Ford d’avoir conservé les ressorts à lames à l’arrière alors que la concurrence (lire Ram) est passée aux bras tirés et aux ressorts hélicoïdaux (par contre, des photos espions ont été publiées d’une suspension indépendante à l’essai!). Il faut se rendre compte qu’une version à propulsion de ce F-150 EcoBoost peut tirer jusqu’à 14 000 livres! Les pneus qui équipaient ce Ford étaient des Hankook I*Pike RW11 d’hiver P275/55 R20 très efficaces.

Sur la route
OK, déception, ce n’était pas la version PowerBoost hybride. Mais au moins, j’ai conduit une version qui sera plus populaire et, dans cette perspective, je considère avoir eu des impressions de conduite plus intéressantes aux lecteurs de ce blogue. Dès la livraison, j’ai donc pris la route vers le nord par l’autoroute des Laurentides, un chemin des plus populaires au Québec. Évidemment, la première constatation, c’est celle d’un confort de roulement et d’un silence appréciable dans l’habitacle. Question puissance, quiconque a conduit un F-150 EcoBoost sait que le V6 de 3,5 litres est capable d’accélérations surprenantes (passer à 100 km/h peut demander moins de sept secondes) et des reprises des plus convaincantes. À ma grande surprise, sur un pavé sec (mais un peu froid, je l’avoue), j’ai réussi à faire patiner les roues arrière et à faire crier les pneus en pressant l’accélérateur alors que je roulais déjà à quelque 20 km/h! En passant, les F-150 haut de gamme (et le Raptor V6) sont équipés d’un accessoire que l’on pourrait appeler le «Engine Sound Enhancement». Il s’agit ici d’un son de moteur V8 qui sort des…haut-parleurs (des Bang and Olufsen, en passant) de la radio de luxe sans que le conducteur n’y ait de contrôle de volume ou d’annulation! Cool!
La direction de cette grande camionnette n’est ni tendre ni ferme, juste «correcte». Mais alors, il ne s’agit pas ici d’une auto de sport! Le freinage est puissant (il le faut vu que la camionnette peut tirer plus de 10 000 livres!) mais il faut toujours se rappeler qu’il s’agit d’un camion avec un centre de gravité élevé. Toutefois, sur la route, la visibilité y est impressionnante alors que les sièges sont très confortables (ils sont ajustables de tant de façons!). Exactement le genre de véhicule pour faire de très longs voyages!
Cependant, en ville, la situation peut être toute autre! Ce F-150 Platinum est long et massif. Il se débrouille au travers la circulation mais lorsque vient le temps de le garer, il faut y avoir les divers accessoires incluant le Ford Co-Pilot 360 et les multiples caméras en aide, la plus importante étant celle d’avant! Il est aussi possible de commander la fonction de stationnement automatisée qui pourrait s’occuper de cet exercice elle-même!
Malgré son ensemble FX4, je n’ai pas osé attaquer un sentier hors-route avec ce F-150 pour des raisons évidentes (mon terrain de prédilection étant encore sous la neige profonde). Mais ce n’est que partie remise quoique dans le passé, J’ai souvent eu l’occasion de tester ces Ford en conséquence.
Évidemment, un véhicule de ce gabarit et de ce poids ne peut être un champion d’économie de carburant. Quand même! Durant cette semaine d’essai qui s’est déroulée à moitié sur route, à moitié en ville, j’ai obtenu une moyenne de 15,0 l./100 km à la pompe alors que l’ordinateur de bord affichait 14,6 (Energuide Canada indique une consommation moyenne de 12,0 en conditions idéales). Très près, n’est-ce pas?
Enfin, le prix. Si un F-150 de base à propulsion avec le moteur V6 de 3,3 litres débute à 33 429 $, une version Platinum comme celui qui a servi à ce reportage affiche un prix de 80 775$. Il vient avec une foule d’options de série mais on peut lui en ajouter d’autres dont les 1750 $ pour le toit ouvrant vitré, les 1300 $ pour l’ensemble électrique ProPower, 200 $ pour la surface de travail intérieure du panneau, 950 $ pour l’ensemble hors-route FX4 et 600 $ pour la finition de protection de l’intérieur de la caisse. Incidemment, n’oubliez pas la fameuse taxe d’accise fédéral de 100 $ pour le climatiseur (?!?) et les 1950 $ pour le transport et la préparation ce qui nous amène à une facture totale de 87 325 $ ! D’autres impressions de conduite de F-150 vous seront publiées au cours des mois qui suivent. Comme on dit : un dossier à suivre…

Vous avez certainement vu de plus en plus de camionnettes pick-up transformées en «cruiser» de police? Voici donc le dernier cri en matière d’autopatrouille, le nouveau F-150 Responder. Il sera proposé aux corps policiers avec le V6 EcoBoost de 400 chevaux et 500 li-pi de couple et selon Ford, son constructeur, il sera capable d’une vitesse de pointe de 120 m/h (195 kmh). Si vous conduisez une auto de performance, vous pourrez vous en «pousser» mais souvenez-vous que ce genre de véhicule est équipé…d’un système de communication encore plus rapide!

Ford Super Duty 2022
Tant qu’à être dans des pick-up Ford, aussi bien continuer avec les retouches que Ford apporte à la version 2022 de ses Super Duty. Souvenez-vous que j’ai fait un reportage complet dans ce blogue sur la version 2021 d’un de ces Super Duty en finition Tremor l’été dernier (incluant excursion hors-route et remorquage). Il n’y a pas de modifications majeures sur les Super Duty depuis ce temps sauf que, pour l’année qui vient, Ford y a «corrigé» le tableau de bord lui ajoutant la possibilité d’un écran de 12 pouces pour pouvoir en apprécier le nouveaux système d’infodivertissement SYNC 4 avec compatibilité avec Apple CarPlay et Android Auto sans fil (l’écran de série demeure celui de 4,2 pouces sur les XL et SYNC 3 et écran de 8 pouces pour les XLT). Pour le reste, Ford aura procédé à des ajouts de décoration avec la finition Lariat et des jantes de 20 pouces et marchepieds noirs sur les XLT.
