What a difference 74 years makes juxtaposition of Jaguar Mark VII, 1950 & Jaguar Type 00 Concept, 2024. The news and social media media in the UK have been busy with Jaguar's new concept today so I thought I'd pitch it. First of all some context: Jaguar has been owned by Indian Multinational Tata Motors since 2008. Recently Jaguar has been doing badly, at present they don't make any saloons or sports cars at all. Their most recent model, the I-Pace electric crossover was introduced in 2018 and is scheduled to be discontinued in 2025. The E-Pace compact SUV is about to end production leaving the F-Pace SUV (introduced in 2015) as their only offering. On November 18 the Jaguar brand was relaunched with a new logo and aimed at a new, more rarified market. The Type 00 is a concept that points to the future style of Jaguar cars. It is not a "production intent" concept, their first "reimagined" production car will be an electric four‑door GT – to be revealed in late 2025. The important thing to note about their new saloon is that it will sell for around £120,000, twice the price of the last XJ saloon when it was discontinued in 2019. I have juxtaposed the Type 00 with the Mark VII because it was also launched at a time when Jaguar was repositioning itself in post-war Britain and was a high-end saloon, the first to use Jaguar's then new XK DOHC straight 6. Jaguar are taking a huge risk with their new electric saloon, only time will tell if their strategy will work but I have never seen a concept car get as much news coverage and comment as the Type 00

Electric Vehicle Fire

Jan 10, 2024        South Metro Fire Rescue Centennial, Colorado   SMFR Responds to Electric Vehicle Fire Inside a Garage

At 7:40 a.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, residents inside a home on S. Mobile St. in Centennial heard their smoke alarms activate and found their house filling smoke. They dialed 911 and quickly discovered an electric vehicle in the garage was engulfed. Thankfully, the residents safely evacuated and were not injured. When Firefighters and Sheriff Deputies arrived, they observed a large volume of smoke pouring from the garage and visible fire under the door. Fire control and primary searches were carried out and crews prevented the fire from extending into the living space of the home.

The Hazardous Materials Team responded to help mitigate the burning EV with a fire blanket. Safety 35’s F-150 was used to pull the burning Jaguar onto the driveway where the blanket could be safely deployed. A hybrid vehicle inside the garage was also damaged, and firefighters used a second EV fire blanket to cover it out of an abundance of caution. After both vehicles were loaded onto tow trucks, Arapahoe County Sheriff and Engine 41 escorted them to a salvage yard in Parker where the smoldering car will be left until the temperature cools and the fire is out.

Fire Investigators determined the fire started in a 2019 Jaguar I-PACE that was charging when the fire occurred. A recall was issued for the I-PACE last year after a battery overheating issue caused fires.

Reveal: The Jaguar F-Type Heritage 60 Edition 

Jaguar is marking the 60th anniversary of the E-type sports car with the introduction of a limited-edition 575PS V8 Supercharged F-Type Heritage 60 Edition. Just 60 examples of these all-wheel drive sports cars will be available for sale worldwide, each one hand-finished by the personalization experts at SV Bespoke.

The commemorative specification includes solid Sherwood Green paintwork, an original E-type color that hasn’t been offered on a new Jaguar since the 1960s, and extended duo-tone Caraway & Ebony Windsor leather interior trim which isn’t normally available on F-Type.

The new limited-run model also features a unique aluminum console finisher inspired by the E-type’s rear-view mirror casing, the E-type 60th anniversary logo embossed on the headrests of the lightweight Performance seats and E-type 60 badging shared with the limited-edition E-type 60 Collection vehicles announced by Jaguar Classic earlier this year. Commemorative treadplates, an SV Bespoke commissioning plaque and Caraway-edged carpet mats provide finishing touches.

The F-Type Heritage 60 Edition is available in both Coupé and Convertible body styles with exclusive Diamond-Turned Gloss Black 20-inch forged alloy wheels, Gloss Black and Chrome exterior accents and black brake calipers.

Supercharged Performance

Launched in December 2019, the new F-Type R – which forms the basis of the new F-Type Heritage 60 Edition – is exclusively all-wheel drive and features revised dampers, anti-roll bars and rear suspension knuckles for heightened driver engagement. Power is from Jaguar’s 575PS supercharged V8, which produces 700Nm of torque for outstanding pace in all conditions.

Performance is exceptional: the sprint from 0-60mph takes just 3.5 seconds, while maximum speed is an electronically-limited 186mph.

The F-Type also provides a suite of advanced driver-focused technologies, including a reconfigurable, high-definition, 12.3-inch TFT instrument cluster, Touch Pro Infotainment system and Smartphone Pack with Apple CarPlay as standard.

While I don’t make any money from reviews sometimes I get to drive a car that really makes up it and the Jaguar F-Pace is one of those cars. I was amazed at how the F-Pace drove when I first drove one a couple of years ago, and to say that amazement hasn’t abated after driving it this time around. Jaguar have managed to make an SUV without compromising the poise, handling and performance you would expect from a Jaguar. The F-Pace S I’m driving here is powered by Jaguars 3.0L V6 turbo diesel which is rated at 221kW and a stump pulling 700Nm of torque backed to an 8 speed auto with paddles shifters meaning the F-Pace is not short of performance, Jaguar claims a 0-100km/h in 6.2 seconds and after spending a week in it I don’t doubt it one bit. The turbo diesel is extremely tractable meaning that you can easy drive around town with a care in the word, yet should the mood strike you there’s of fun to had specially when you explore the Dynamic drive mode. The F Pace features the JaguarDrive Control system which allows you choose between Dynamic, Eco and Rain Ice Snow Modes the names pretty give you an idea of what they do. Eco mode was great for economy and I spent most of the week in this mode time because it make difference as far economy goes, and with 700Nm of torque on board there was always enough grunt available for any situation in day to day driving. Switching to Dynamic mode and watching the gauge lighting turn red told me I was in for some fun and the F-Pace didn’t disappoint specially when coupled with paddle shifters. There was a couple of times I had to remind myself I was driving an SUV and not a sports sedan. The S comes equip with Adaptive Dynamics which will match the conditions and your driving style by constantly analysing the Steering and body movement and adjusting the Electronically controlled dampers to optimise the suspension settings and the Configurable Dynamics system allows you to personalise your car to more suit your driving style. By allowing you to adjust the dynamics for throttle mapping, gearbox shift points, steering and damper settings. I found the F Pace to be remarkably smooth on the road it felt sure footed and there was no bang or crash transmitted into the cabin that you get on your normal Sydney b grade roads. Being a Jaguar you would expect the F Pace to handle well and it really does, it sits flat in corners with hardly any body roll and the steering is sharp and well weighted. The Torque Vectoring helps to keep things under control even in tight corners.

The F-Pace in my opinion is one of the best looking if not the best looking SUV on the market, Jaguar have nailed the looks from the onset, the F-Pace looked good in the pics I had seen but it looks even better in the flesh. The Loire Blue paint job really suited the car nicely and was set off by the optional black pack which includes Gloss Black side vents, Gloss Black grille with Gloss Black surround, Body-coloured door claddings with Gloss Black finishers, S Rear bumper with Gloss Black valance, the optional 20 inch gloss black finished rims completes the overall look. On the inside the S not only gives off a sporty feel thanks to the well bolstered and supportive front sport seats, but also also exudes luxury thanks to the to acres of leather. The 12.3″ Instrument Panel Display with Virtual Dials and full screen 3D Map View not only looked and was easy to read in any light but is configurable so you can choose between full screen 3D Map View or one 4 graphical themes.

The centre stack which is home to the 10 inch touch screen for the mulitmedia system is well set out and all buttons are in easy reach from the drivers seat. Jaguar’s intouch multi media system is extremely easy to use, now while the standard 380w Meridian sound system is great this car was fitted with the optional 880w Meridian surround sound system and the sound was amazing, with full bluetooth capability I was able to listen to spotify with ease, the Satnav was also very easy to use.

The wide console which is home to rotary shifter which rises up when you start the car, has 2 nice sized cup holders and the buttons to change the driving modes. Legroom front and rear was great and there was plenty of storage spots through out the car including large door bins. Boot space is good at 508L which expands thanks to the 40:20:40 split fold rear seat.

Safety wise as you would expect the F-Pace is fitted with a massive a mount of safety features including Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Departure Warning, Valet Mode, Emergency Brake Assist, Dynamic Stability Control and Traction Control, Perimeter sensing alarm and immobiliser, Jaguar Smart Key System with Keyless Start, Power operated child locks. Airbags Driver and front passenger, with seat occupant detector for passenger, front side, full length side window curtain. The F-Pace scores full points for the front and rear parking sensors and gets bonus points for the rear view camera.

After a week in the F-Pace I didn’t really want to give it back as it was a pretty damn good to drive, it’s loaded with safety features, it has plenty of room for the family. It not only goes,handles and rides extremely well but can return awesome economy around town as well. There are a couple of downsides one is that like most European luxury cars you do have to pay extra for some things that other manufacturers include as standard fit and the options list is rather long so ticking a few boxes could see the price blow out a bit, in fact this car was over $20,000 more then the base price once all the extra’s were added up. But the biggest downside for me is that I can’t afford to buy one. When i first drove an F-Pace a couple of years ago the one big question when I picked up the F-Pace and that was can Jaguar make an SUV that does the name proud at their first attempt and I can answer a definate yes to that and the F-Pace should be on your list if you are looking for a luxury SUV.
