A farewell was something Donnie was far too young to have let alone a funeral. None of them could process the fact that he was gone and they didn't even have his body to bury.

Two weeks. Two weeks was a very short amount of time. Two weeks was common. Two weeks was a blip in the universe. Two weeks wasn't even anything that special within just a year. Yet, the two weeks it had been since Donnie had passed stretched on like an eternity.

Raphael sat in silence, rolling his wrist absentmindedly. His fingers were tightly wrapped in bandages, splinted with a precision that should’ve been Donnie’s work. But it wasn’t Donnie. It was Leo. Leo, who had quietly taken over the task Donnie used to scold him about, patching up injuries, grumbling under his breath about Raph's recklessness. The absence of Donnie’s voice, that familiar mixture of annoyance and care, hung over him like a ghost. Was it strange to miss being scolded?

He didn't know where he had gotten that injury. His knuckles throbbed as he tried to think back to where it could of happened. Moments after April- He punched the metal column harshly once. Then again. And again.

Later on, when April had come back to her senses, Raphael had decided to remedy that. By beating her senseless. She had killed his little brother. His twin. She had done so many awful, inexcusable things to Donnie that he had let slide. He'd even let Donnie's own strange behaviour, his misplaced loyalty in her go a little for his sake but he was not going to sleep on this. He was done managing his temper.

So he snapped and charged toward her, knocked her to the ground. He pulled back and rammed forward right for her nose, the wet crack of cartilage echoed in the dim alley. The second hit landed squarely on her jaw. Twice. Then he hit her cheekbone. Then her lip. He punched her so hard she was coughing up blood and teeth. He got one more wallop to the eye before Leo had bothered to pull him off of that bitch!

Raphael didn’t resist. He couldn’t bring himself to fight his brothers, no matter how much rage clawed at his chest. But as he turned back toward April, a low growl tore from his throat. He spat at her, his disgust seething through his entire body. The sight of her mangled face and tangled hair had barely even satisfied him. His heart hammered as he breathed raggedly, he itched to do more. Deep inside he was still screaming to do more but it was all pointless. If Donnie knew what he'd just done he would be livid. But Donnie was gone now.

Raph would bet money that if Donnie somehow managed to come back after that he would just forgive her and move on immediately. Too soft-hearted, too goddamned willing to let her get away with everything, even when it had destroyed him in the end. He was so down bad it had gotten him killed. It infuriated him. Raphael raised his good hand to knock on Leonardo's door.

Leonardo slowly tied the mask around his face, his fingers trembling as he secured the knot. The mask was such a deep, inky blue that in the dim light, it seemed indistinguishable from black. It clung to his scales, a second layer meant to hide the cracks in his composure, to bury the emotions clawing their way to the surface. The dark fabric would conceal the tears he knew were coming, the moisture soaking in without a trace, but it couldn’t hide the bloodshot edges of his eyes. They glared through the narrow slits, raw with the weight of sleepless nights and a mind tangled in turmoil.

He stared into the mirror, the mask transforming him into a stranger. It was ironic, how something meant to conceal could only magnify his pain. Yet still, he tied the mask tighter, hoping it would somehow hold everything in place: his face, his grief, his unravelling.

They were holding his funeral today. There wasn’t much they could do without a body, but their father was used to that kind of grief. He had mourned Tang Shen for sixteen long years and Miwa for fifteen. So the funeral had been set up accordingly but they had all seen their Sensei's face yesterday. His eyes deep with an ache he had learned to carry in silence, and now, it was happening again.

The rituals would be the same as they'd always witnessed: flowers, incense, whispered prayers, but the emptiness would weigh heavier without a body to lay to rest. And with how he died, his soul could be just as vapourised

A cool hand rested on his shoulder, causing him to look at his younger brother. It was painful to see him in a mask colour so unlike his own. Where Leo's mask was blue it wasn't too unsightly to see himself in black but the dark carmine of Raphael's mask made him want to weep again. It didn't suit his fiery personality, the anger that was meant to fuel his every move.

Instead it was just the underlying fear that was present. He had to be strong for the both of them. He steeled himself, clenching his fist tight, fingernails digging under the scales and teeth clenching painfully. With great difficulty he reached up to Raph's hand with his own and rested there for just a moment before he brushed him off and silently made for the door.

He wasn't strong enough for weak words right now. Small comforts and placations wouldn't work on Raph if he had the strength to try. It felt odd describing himself as leading Raph to Mikey even though if Donnie were here, that very same act wouldn't have changed at all. Every consuming thought was plagued by the nightmare-turned-reality.

Leo didn’t bother stopping at Mikey’s room. He already knew it was empty. Mikey hadn’t slept there since that night. He had always spent more time in other parts of the lair, but now he avoided his room entirely, as if stepping inside might force him to confront the nightmare they were all living in. Lately, Mikey either slept in Leo or Raph’s room, wandered through the kitchen, dozed off on the couch, or sat silently in Donnie’s lab. Mikey’s usual energy had been snuffed out, his laughter hollow, his smiles strained and far too thin to convince anyone that he was okay. Every joke fell flat, and seeing that forced brightness on Mikey’s face was almost worse than his sadness.

The sliding door of the dojo parted easily, where the funeral was to be held and where they found Mikey. He was darting from place to place: rearranging flowers in an intricate pattern; placing a photo of Donnie on an easel so it was easy to see; and straightening up the little trinkets placed on the small wooden shrine. At the top of the shrine sat Donnie’s mask—the only thing left of him since April…

Casey stood off to the side, leaning against the wall, watching in silence. The weight of the moment stretched on, unbroken until finally someone spoke.

“This doesn’t feel real,” Casey muttered, his voice low.

Raph scoffed softly. “You can say that again, Jones.”

“This is surreal!” He repeated with a bitter tone. And he meant it. Just two weeks ago Donnie had trained in this very dojo, full of life but getting his ass beat. Now he had a mourning shrine here to offer a cruel solace to the living as he floated through space and time or whatever hell April had condemned him to.

Leo dragged his feet along the carpet as he made his way to Master Splinter's door. He knew when he knocked, he would emerge. Then he'd let everyone else attending Donatello's funeral in. Karai, Slash, Leatherhead, Dr Rockwell, Pidgeon Pete, Mondo Gecko, Timothy, and Shinigami. Everyone they knew and trusted were to be let in to pay respects to Donnie. Leo knew it was selfish to stand here with his hand raised to knock yet still refuse to start it just to put it off for himself.

He wasn’t ready to let go. Not yet. The crushing weight of admitting Donnie was truly gone pressed down on him like an anvil. The finality of it wrapped around his chest, constricting until it was hard to breathe. He wasn’t ready to accept that there was nothing left of his baby brother par memories, nothing but this pain shared between them all. But Leo knew he couldn’t hold onto this moment forever. He had to let the others grieve too. This wasn’t a burden for him to carry alone. He was probably selfish, hoping it was just his burden because that would mean none of them cared for Donnie.

With a deep breath, Leo finally raised his hand and knocked. There was no turning back now.

Truthfully, Leo knew there had been turning back as soon as Donnie started to plead and beg April for his life.

Hello!! I say todays prompt but its 3am of the 7th Whoops. Todays prompt was hard to get started but thanks to @agalactichalo I was able to start steamrolling this fic.

It ended up being an episode rewrite plus an au because the writers constantly served an injustice to the audience withApril's poor writing. They couldn't handle complex trauma and plots for her and they always bent the story so she would be painted in the most positive light even when she didn't deserve it. I was so angry when none of the brother's reacted to Donnie's death properly and just forgave April immediately. It was so poorly handled and Donnie doesnt process trauma like at all. Like please, babygirl, you can process the fact you just died!!

Also the panning and zoom in on Casey was so funny. Like why did they choose Jones, his rival out of everyone to focus on aftsr his death if they weren't destined to be boyfriends??? And the rain!! Pathetic Fallacy at its finest and these are two pathetic idiots in love your honour. Anywhizzle, I rewrote it with Raph beating the crap out if April because thats more in line with his character that the episode to me and I found it cathartic. Fanon April I love you so much, pls dont hate me.

Mutant Mayhem hc time besties!!!!!! Mainly mutant fam hcs because they’re spinning in my brain

And obviously spoilers for the movie (which comes out tomorrow!!! I’ve held onto these for a whole three days since seeing the movie on Saturday!!!!)

Scumbug actually ends up becoming a confidant for Leo, and he learns how to talk to her, and Splinter just has to hold back happy tears

Just the boys in general getting taught by Scumbug and being so intent on learning how to talk to their new parental figure

Bebop and Rocksteady (ofc) help Raph to learn some… better coping mechanisms than fighting, and the three of them definitely have weekly meditation sessions with Splinter

GIANT FAMILY CUDDLE PILES

Mikey is SO tactile and loves physical affection and he absolutely climbs all over Rocksteady, who will remain as still as possible for his baby brother so NO ONE SPEAK TO HIM

Leatherhead definitely clicks with Raph. Idk why, I just think they click, they become really close!!!

And after April fully becomes integrated into the family… that’s their sister!!!! She gets included in the cuddles!!

Mondo and Mikey becoming twins is so important to me… they are so goofy and silly together

I think Donnie would REALLY get along with Wingnut, idk I think Wingnut has such strong big sister energy, and she’d be one of Donnie’s biggest cheerleaders (besides the other turtles) when he starts really getting into tech

There’s definitely a parent/teacher conference night, and Splinter shows up, because he wants to show his boys that he supports them, and the teachers are just in a puddle of emotions over how much he gushes over his sons, and how excited he is to learn how well they’re doing in school. He’s probably the proudest parent any of the teachers have met, and he quickly becomes a teacher favorite over how much he supports his kids.

I just think the entire school would see the brothers, know what they did for the city, and automatically just be ready to lay down their lives for the boys and their family.

Like, Raph has a wrestling meet, they go, and the family is just completely surrounded by people from the school who give death glares to anyone who even glances at them wrong.

This goes along with my 2012 “best kept secret in the city” hc, but as soon as it comes out that the boys are only 15, i fully believe the adults who were helping them immediately have a crisis, because those are literal children, and Leo, Raph, Donnie, and Mikey become unofficially adopted by every adult in New York City

I just hope you know that knowing my hc of NYC knowing about the turtles and keeping them a secret is now canon in Mutant Mayhem is making me THRIVE besties

~General ROTTMNT HC’s~

Here, I’ll be posting my personal headcanons for rottmnt. Over time, I’ve noticed a lot of traits within the characters and certain quirks that I’ve associated with ideas that would fit the boys and other characters perfectly.

(I’ll be adding onto this whenever I have new headcanons)

Headcanon #1

Both of the disaster twins use contacts. As seen in the episode ‘Air Turtles’, Leo wears protective glasses (glasses used for athletes to see better without harming their vision), which means his vision is possibly impaired. As for Donnie, we all know Donnie used to have glasses when he was younger, but since glasses can be a huge boundary when in battle, both of the twins decided to switch to contacts so they could still see when fighting

Headcanon #2

Splinters vision is just as bad as his two sons. Splinter sees things a little blurrier than everyone else so when he sees his sons, instead of identifying them by their features, he identifies them by their colors, hence why he calls them by their colors (Blue, Red, Purple, Orange). When he was still Lou jitsu, he had some glasses, but I feel like he had them designed to fit his movie star look, so while his glasses are for seeing, he had still wanted them to look good. Headcanon #3

Donnie doesn’t do too well with emotion nor does he seem to interested in romance, so the first thought that came to my head was ‘ARO/ACE DONNIE’. Aro/Ace : having little to no romantic or sexual attraction. I do still believe Donnie could fall in love, the feelings just wouldn’t be as intense as it is for those who are neurotypical

Headcanon #4

I think Mikey definitely has ADHD. Mikey tends to be very impulsive and wild when he’s fighting. In fact, he’s so impulsive, Donnie made him an inflatable suit so he wouldn’t get hurt because this boy is a loose canon. He also seems to be very hyperactive and can’t keep his focus on just one activity, hence why he has so many hobbies like cooking, drawing, skateboarding, and other things. We gotta love this ball of energy

Headcanon #5

Raph has GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder). We all know this poor boy has a lot of anxiety and always stresses himself out when it comes to his family. Due to carrying the weight of his family on his shoulders, he tends to stress out a lot, but when you stress out a lot, your brain finds it a custom and a normal occurrence, so anything that might start up the slightest bit of stress could possibly turn into a full blown panic attack (I know cuz I’ve got GAD :((). He also overthinks A LOT

Headcanon #6

Casandra has gotta be nonbinary/gender-fluid.I headcanon Cassandra using she/they pronouns, why? While cassandra is presented as female in the show, she seems to be in touch with both her masculine and feminine side and I definitely think that if someone were to refer to her as a boy, she would not give a flying fuck, she just doesn’t seem to care for gender labels and you gotta love that

Headcanon #7

Sorry to the people who don’t ship this, but I see April and Sunita as a lesbian couple. In Tmnt 2012, April was placed in more as a love interest for Donnie, but it was just so forced and his obsession with her was concerning. In Rise, April poses more as an older sister for the boys and her relationship with Donnie is so sweet too. Instead of April and Donnie being lovers, Rise decided to make them best friends and they’re dynamic is something I am in love with. Rise April doesn’t really seem to have much of an interest in men, nor does she seem to be interested in having a boyfriend period, but I have noticed that she seems more interested in creating a bond with other girls (like Taylor and Sunita). When Sunita was first introduced, she was presented as just beautiful (flowers along with a beautiful background) and the way she was presented was how April perceived her, we were looking from aprils point of view. So, in conclusion, I think the girls a lesbian, argue with me if you’d like, I stand by this

Headcanon #8

Casey Jones is most definitely a trans man. The first time I saw this boy on screen, I pointed to the tv and said ‘That is a trans man’. Now where Casey came from, I have no idea. I’m not sure if he was birthed out of Cassandra or if he was a dumpster child found by Cassandra, but either way, something about Casey caught my attention that made me come to this conclusion. Ofcourse we know Casey is a teenager, but it seems like he hasn’t yet hit the full point of puberty, he’s got little scruffs on his chin and I’ve noticed his voice does crack a bit (which I love. I would die for him) but I think he has these traits because he’s still in the process of transitioning fully. In all honesty though, I have a crush on this boy, I’m down bad bro, I wish there were more fics for him

leo and donnie: lee is still the mom of the group, but in a way that his brothers respect him highly. lee is impressed by rise donnie and is proud of him but worries that he might accidentally pressure him too much like he sometimes did with 12 donnie. 12 leo is also scared for his brothers, in the way that they value themselves. he doesn’t want rise donnie to think that lee is proud of him because he’s smart, he wants him to know that he loves him for much more then that. trauma am i right:)) on a more light hearted level, the disaster twins are constantly competing with one another to impress lee (praise from their badass big brother) and for the longest time lee has no idea what is going on.

2012 raph is ridiculously protective of rise mikey. this doesn’t mean that he loves rise mikey any more then 12 mikey, it’s just that rise mikey is still very young and still acts like it, and raphs got a major soft spot for him. together they enjoy being sarcastic little shits(affectionate) to their brothers and they like to do art together. mikey uses his ‘youngest and smallest of them all’ powers to get constant piggyback rides from everyone, especially 12 raph. don’t mess with the short boys they will bite your knees off

for the weighted blankets, the 12 twins both use them(lee and raph). raph got one bc lee introduced them to him. rise donnie uses one, and weighted blankets are always kept in the lair if anyone wishes to use one. rise mikey has a few different hammocks in his room that he can change out or hang up all at once and a few of them are therapy hammocks that him and his brothers use to help with anxiety and sleep. basically they have all used one at one point and it just depends on the person.

for the trauma part… not all their problems are solved yet..🤫 but the 12 boys do their best to be there for them. to listen and not dismiss the fear or pain. rarely did the 12brothers get a break to stop and process what was going on and their lives were never normal. while they are there for the rise boys in every way they can be, let’s be honest they need to stop and figure themselves out too.

I don’t know why, but Donnie and Raph (especially in the 2003 version) go so well together. DONNIE CALLS RAPH “RAPHIE.” I LOVE IT. They also seem to together when fighting (there’s a small scene in the 2007 version where Raph asks Don for his help while fighting a foot soldier, it’s cute brotherly love y’all I love it)

There’s literally a 2003 TMNT compilation of just Donnie and Raph moments, Donnie canonically calls Raph “Raphie,” and Raph seems to insult Donnie less if not barely. (although in the 2012 version he throws his lil nerdy jokes at him)

Donnie & Raph 100% gives off middle child vibes, so it’s only right they’re the best duo. We see Leo as the oldest and Mikey the youngest, but we never really talk about where don and Raph lie. It’s simply because they’re the

I feel like Donnie is the backbone of a lot of Leo's plans. If you think about it, a lot of the time Leo may rely on Donnie to either hack or invent something for them to use in their mission. Though in the 2012 he doesn't allow donnie to use the turtle mech because it was too risky, but a lot of his inventions seriously save Leo all the trouble of making a plan up and stressing him out

I also love the thought of them as twins bc it makes so much sense & I enjoy it A LOT!!!

Okay, I LOVE. In every installment, they seriously kill it together.

I enjoyed them a lot in the 2012 version, it wasn't like bayverse or 2003 where a lot of the screentime was taken up by them arguing. We saw how caring Raph was during the farmhouse arc and how he really missed Leo, and tried to help him get back on his feet as leader. Not only that, but 2007 Raph secretly really cared for Leo A LOT, i think the line where Raph says

"Youre gonna need these [katana] if youre gonna lead us out of here," & Leo says, "I'm gonna need you, too." LIKE BROOO????? *cries*

I truly love their small rivalry but brotherly love at the same time like wut

But anyhoo, I really like that although they may get into it (yuh) with each other, they still fight really good together regardless I love them wtf.

How old are all the boys in too many turtles?

I keep meaning to have a page ready whenever someone asks this but I forget. Basically it is kinda:

1987: the most ambiguous “because of marketing”, though around 18? I’m not too sure tbh. On the adult side of teen, they’re very much pushing it.

2003: all around 24, with Mikey being 6 ish months younger so he’s still 23

2007: it takes place half a year or so after the movie, so Leo is 22. I hc that Donnie, Raph and Mikey potentially as a triplet set younger at 21? I’m still debating on it, but it would be a fun idea if that was another reason why just Leo went away.

2012: all 20, unless you count dimension X for Mikey, who is ~22 (he can’t remember)

Bayverse: takes place a year and a half after the second movie, and so I want to say 17? Mikey and Donnie are younger, both hatching later. It’s a difference that isn’t too big, so they just round it.

Rise: 6 ish months - a year after the movie. Mikey is 15, Donnie and Leo are 17 and Raph is 18/19. Mikey isn’t two years younger than the twins, he just hasn’t had his birthday yet!

TOTTMNT: Whenever the series takes place tbh. I think it’s soon after the movie because it seems like it’s their first party, so I am going to say 15. However Donnie and Mikey are younger, being twins at 14. Leo and Raph are a second pair of twins.

In Rise he can unwind from being a role model in 2012, so I think he'd be a bit chaotic with the twin dynamic. Though he'd probably just stick with teasing and purposefully annoying Donnie because he doesn't want to accidentally cross a line by going for more crazy ways to mess with Donnie.

The twin rivalry doesn't force them to always be at each others throats, so he'd probably be able to have a chill convo with Donnie if he wants one. Though Donnie immediately assuming he's approaching him to bother him is a bit annoying (but fair)

As for age headcanons in 2012, I can basically see any order of age. Generally I stick with Leo, Raph, Donnie, Mikey because that's what's standard and what people expect, but other orders are fun as well. As for the twin hcs, I can see any combination with it.
