dandadan is the best modern-day descendant to urusei yatsura and takahashi's overall brand of multi-genre smash-em-up romcom chaos. it's got:

aliens AND spirits AND giant robots AND pretty much whatever else strikes tatsu's fancy, often at the same time

raunchy comedy featuring the core conceit of "naked people and dicks are funny"

surprisingly sweet romcom center

extremely goofy references to contemporary and older media (the ranma 1/2 gag made me laugh loud enough that it scared my dog)

Fashion and excellent style

some truly bleak and sad backstories once the series has lulled you into a sense of stability (and then mood whiplash)

constant chaos at the high school of both paranormal and ordinary varieties that increasingly features more and more high schoolers noticing and poking into the shenanigans

old ladies who can and will beat the shit out of fools

Okay, I thought I'd share my thoughts on the AFO and Yoichi height thing.

My first thought: Oh, AFO must've be normal-sized at first, he just grew super tall because he lived for 200 years.

After I realized: Huh, I wonder if AFO just started stealing height related quirks after he realized Yoichi was starting to grow taller than he was.

Universal Soldier (1992)

Summary: Luc Deveraux (Jean-Claude Van Damme) is resurrected as part of the Universal Soldier programme after being killed in action in Vietnam. His arch-nemesis, Sergeant Andrew Scott (Dolph Lundgren) has also undergone the same procedures.

Largely forgettable Lundgren/ Van Damme teamup that wants to be Robocop but, unfortunately, Robocop got there first.
