TF2 in Historical Context: Heavy's Background

Obligatory disclaimer here that this is either speculation based off of things we canonically learn about Heavy or extrapolation from those things.

We are told that his father was a counter-revolutionary, who was executed in 1941. He, his mother, and sisters were sent to a gulag in Siberia, but they escaped in December 1941 after it burned down. It is implied that Heavy tortured the guards to allow them to escape.

It is often assumed that Heavy's father was a victim of Stalin's Great Purge. However, this took place from 1936-1939. The campaign of repression which targeted Heavy's family is thus more likely to in fact be the Red Army Purge, which took place from Oct 1940 to Feb 1942.

Interestingly, this implies that Heavy's father was not a member of the White Army (the loose coalition of forces which opposed the Bolsheviks during the Civil War). Instead, he was most likely a moderately-ranked member of the Soviet Union's army, and was scapegoated or arrested on fabricated charges.

Heavy's family being of a modestly decent income prior to the execution of his father also checks out if we consider how well-educated Heavy is, they must have been able to afford to support their only son's studies

The thought that goes into the fake science in dungeon meshi can be something so special actually. Using golems to explain crop rotation and how removing predators from an ecosystem can have knock-on effects. Talking about symbiotic relationships and parasites too! And characters are actually interested in the science so they keep explaining about it. Finally, some exposition I can get behind.

Let's get the easiest one out of the way. Caitlyn uses Dead Man's Tale. Tell me she wouldn't. Go ahead, I'll wait.

Vi

Since this is about exotic weapons, this one took a while to come up with. But, Vi would use the Legend of Acrius. A heavy shotgun that sends out a shockwave and shoves enemies away. 👍🏻

Jinx

Jinx uses Sunshot. (it was either between Sunshot or Thorn) Hand-cannon that shoots exploding fire. Yep. Mhm.

Au!Powder

Powder is using Ace of Spades. It's similar to Sunshot with Memento Mori but more elegant.

Ekko

Ekko uses Vex Mythoclast. It comes from the time raid and the exotic perk is called 'Timeless Mythoclast'.

Jayce

Jayce would use a slammer sword, since we don't have hammers as weapons (that aren't supers), and the closest exotic weapons we have to that would be Lament.

Viktor

Viktor gets Divinity. Not only does the name fit but the div bubble kinda looks like a hex core.

Mel

Mel is using Ticuu's Divination. Elegant, can be fired down sights or from hip, does a lot of damage. ✍️

Ambessa

Ambessa would use an exotic glaive, and the she'd like the most would be Edge of Concurrence.

Silco

Silco would absolutely use Crimson. A hand-cannon that shoots a three round burst? Yeah. Absolutely.

Vander

Vander is using Lord of Wolves. Pretty self explanatory.

Sevika

Sevika uses Sweet Business. Don't ask me why, it just feels right.

Maddie

Maddie uses Khvostov. Why? The bullets ricochet.

Political ads should be illegal.

Instead each candidate gets 2 pages or less to create a resume style document that lays out their basic positions and any relevant skills/experience/accomplishments and their education. They may also write a cover letter (no longer than one page) giving their best argument for why they should be elected. If they choose to add nuance to their positions or detail to their experience section, they may have a website to do so. Then a neutral third party should offer a fact check and performance review that (in as objective a style as possible) identifies potential detractors (including scandals, any accusations or legal trouble, or just poor job performance).

And all of these documents should be neatly compiled on a single website to see all the candidates. And that's it. That should be our election campaign.

I actually cannot even get to the point of processing if I have any criticisms of the plot decisions in Rings of Power because I am so distracted by the production quality. Any other franchise fine, I can deal with bad wigs and fake looking armor, but Lord of the Rings?! I know they are better than this!!! The original trilogy was so beautifully hand crafted and TROP literally has even more of a budget there is no excuse I am tearing my hair out. Wētā this isn't you babe where is the basement of two guys hand assembling every piece of chain mail, you look like you went on a Spirit Halloween spree.
