Despite working in animal emergency, and a profession with one of the highest suicide rates in the West, these lovely and amazing people took their time to write us a card with personal messages and even took paw print impressions of out beloved Havoc (something they normally charge a lot for in the cremation process).

As you can guess, we lost our 1y11m old male tuxedo, a delightful kitten who earned the name of Havoc early on and kept to the theme.

Perhaps he was a little too lively as he managed to chew on some embroidery thread and it got caught in the entire length of his esophagus to gut. They performed very expensive surgery on him (how could we not? He was mine and Ygritte’s best bud and the whole family adored his spirit). He brightened our lives immensely, the little rascal.

This happened the Monday before last and I’m hitting myself for not bringing him in early but my mom is kicking herself more for not tidying up after her latest sewing project. It’s been hard but we really are trying not to blame ourselves.

He was in the best surgical hands but the sutures couldn’t keep the infection from getting to him after the surgery. We made the decision.

I still rail at it all, but we had to. He wouldn’t have survived much longer anyway. Ugh, I’m tearing up. It was so traumatic to us all and all I can think of is him being lonely and scared. But I have a feeling the staff at this ER were as kind to him as they could be and held him when we couldn’t.

I didn’t say anything earlier because I didn’t even really know what to say because like… y’know?

I love you Havoc. Leia, Ygritte, and Java and the rest of the family love and miss you so much.

You’ll always be with us, you funky little dude. We’ll take good care of your siblings, we promise.
