Daniel Jackson Whump List: Stargate Sg-1, The Ark of Truth, Continuum, & Atlantis
The other whump lists I’ve found for Daniel have been quite minimal so I decided to make my own since he is my latest hyper fixation.
This is a work in progress. I’ll add seasons as I watch them.
Season 1
1x01 - distressed, guilty, crying, thrown against a wall, imprisoned, held back, forced to kneel, held down, shot at by staff weapons
1x02 - emotional about losing Char’e
1x03 - threatened with a knife
1x04 - beat up by Jack, attacked by The Touched and infected, carried by Teal’c
1x05 - gun held to kneck
1x07 - shot and killed with staff weapon, brought back by the Knox
1x12 - kidnapped, pushed against wall, general intimidation, strapped to a table, memory searched painfully

Season 3
3x01 - threatened (Hathor brings up when she r*ped him) gash on leg from staff weapon, kneeling, hands tied, threatend with zat gun, generally looks very tired this whole episode

The Vampire Diaries, Ep. 1x19
Miss Mystic Falls
miss mystic falls sounds so funny whenever the characters say it. it sounds ridiculous. i'll also say right off the bat that i fucking loved this episode. it reminds me of buffy 3x05 homecoming, though it is obviously worse. i'll bring up some of the parallels as we move through.
we begin with a paler stefan wearing a leather jacket. this is a clear sign that he is evil. and then we get the best moment for a long time: bonnie is back!!!!!!! i don't know how to feel about her new bangs. like, they aren't aggressively terrible, but they're also not... good? and then caroline shows up!!!! the girls are back together, hell yeah!
stefan then goes back to his house, and he and damon try out a new dynamic: rebellious teen and single father. this is very funny because damon sucks at being a single father, and stefan is such a wonderful rebellious teen. he's a little shit now. i love little shit stefan. case in point: 'have my actions negatively impacted you? i can't imagine what that must feel like.' he's so sarcastic and terrible, and he refuses to give any ground at all: amazing!
meanwhile, damon is getting roped into working with john, who sucks so bad. john is 'looking for vampires' but knows where damon is and is making no real moves to do anything about that. he wants an invention that the dead guy who journaled made, but no one has any idea where it is.
bonnie doesn't want to put elena in the middle of her and stefan. bonnie is upset that her grandmother died because of the salvatore brothers, and that the other vampires escaped. however, she doesn't want elena to feel like she has to choose between her best friend and her boyfriend, which is really sweet. what's less sweet is that stefan is sliding into disaster. he's eavesdropping, he's getting dangerously close to drinking from a fellow student, he's being a general creep. can we have an intervention for this man?
at the event, we get string covers of coldplay songs. i looked it up and these are by the vitamin string quartet, who do the pop covers on bridgerton. i think their work is excellent, and i was glad to hear them here. as quartet coldplay plays, i fear that i may start to feel bad for jeremy if everyone keeps lying to him.
also, lydia martin's mom is back. and she can go to hell. while this event is very fun, it is made less fun by the massive stick up her ass.
meanwhile, stefan is losing it. he breaks a mirror with his bare hands, a trope stolen from the work of gritty auteur directors making films about addiction. and addiction is the metaphor here. it's a common metaphor for the vampire, but this is the first time we've really seen it on this particular show, so it does feel worth talking about. stefan is losing his ability to make rational decisions, he is becoming a different person. he is saying and doing things he would never have done before he went on human blood. all of this to say, he is letting the blood consume and control him. a bit like a heavy addiction. this is such a hard thing to talk about without feeling like i'm shaming anyone because addiction isn't anyone's fault. it certainly isn't stefan's. he didn't choose to drink elena's blood in that forest, and he wouldn't have if there had been another viable option to keep them both alive. it was a last resort kind of move and he is now paying for it. however, he knows that what he's doing is wrong. he feels a degree of shame about it, though he pretends not to. if he didn't, on some level, believe that he was doing something wrong, he wouldn't have hidden his blood consumption from damon, especially. damon was all for stefan drinking human blood again, so there's no reason to hide this from damon unless he knows that he doesn't have control over it and he doesn't want his brother to know. stefan is intentionally hiding his dependence on human blood, and he is lashing out against people who say otherwise. he is, in short, going to lose it soon.
and he loses it almost immediately. this cute blonde girl, amber, finds him. he drags her out into the forest. i want to just put in some of their conversation verbatim. stefan: 'i don't hurt people. i don't do that. i'm the good brother.' amber: 'do you want to hurt me?' stefan: 'i want to kill you, i want to rip into your skin, and i want to feed on your blood.' we'll talk more about stefan and amber later because they're about to get a whole lot more interesting but we first have to talk about damon and elena :( and caroline :)
the most common conversation i have about this show is with my best friend. she is a damon girlie, and i am more inclined toward stefan. i'll set up my reasoning, at least as of ten eps ago. i don't like a bad boy, and i don't like characters that kill indiscriminately (especially male characters), so from literally the first episode, i knew i was going to have some problems with damon. he killed ten people in the first five episodes. he killed gina torres and melissa mccall. he has done some truly terrible stuff and been a real creep. stefan, until the blood thing, has not. i'll be honest, i'm liking stefan less and less as the episodes march on. i'm liking damon more and more as he mellows into a simply annoying man rather than a creepy dangerous one. however, i don't think i will ever be able to get behind damon and elena dating. for one thing, they are not equally matched characters. it'd be like juliet (from romeo and juliet) and benedick (from much ado about nothing) dating. they just wouldn't work! the personalities are too different, and i think it would be nearly impossible to set up a relationship that truly works without fundamentally changing one or both of the characters. there are moments for them, but there are more moments that make them seem impossible.
back to caroline :) she won! i'm so happy that caroline got to win! she's done so much and she is rarely recognized as being an amazing force for good. i'm so happy that she got to have this moment, especially since she was so convinced it was going to be elena. elena and caroline are actually wonderful in this episode. elena is so happy to support caroline winning miss mystic. and, earlier in the episode, caroline convinced elena to stay in the competition even though she thought that meant elena would win. they supported each other so well, and it's moments like these that make their friendship clear.
and now back to stefan and amber :( unfortunately, stefan is still having a complete breakdown, using amber as a hapless puppet to bounce ideas off of. until, of course, he tires of the easy kill and her ready agreement. he compels her to run because he wants to chase her. he wants to catch her. he wants to hunt her. stefan needs to be the predator he's always been. he's so invested in pushing that part of himself away that he has never really learned how to handle it. luckily, bonnie, elena, and damon show up to rescue amber. bonnie keeps stefan from attacking and stefan runs off.
back to the salvatore house: in a very strange and badly written moment, we learn that pearl and jmpsg are going to be normal people now and not kill anyone. and the rest of the vampires in the big house of vampires just left. which means that a major arc ends not with a bang, but by being written off the show casually.
and our final topic: stefan, elena, and the basement. elena: 'i know this isn't you, stefan.' stefan: 'i wanted to drain every ounce of blood from that girl's body.' elena: 'no.' stefan: 'it's who i am, elena.' elena: 'no, you can't scare me off.' stefan: 'why would you risk it? why would you come here?' elena: 'because I did this, this is my fault; i'm the one who made you drink the blood.' stefan: 'all you did was expose me to who i really am.' elena: 'this isn't you.' stefan: 'stop saying that!!!' stefan: 'don't get any closer to me.' elena: 'i'm not gonna let this happen to you.' stefan and elena are at cross purposes here because they are talking about slightly different things. stefan knows that he can't stop being a vampire. he is falling into despair, becoming more and more convinced that he can never be saved. elena, on the other hand, recognizes that he still has choices. yeah, he can never stop being a vampire, but he can change his actions. he can choose to do the hard thing and wean himself off human blood. he can choose different actions, which is why elena repeatedly insists this isn't him. stefan is railing against his essential nature, elena is upset about his actions.
then elena gets closer to stefan. he puts his face near her neck, and it's clear that he is about to bite her. however, she stabs him with a vamp tranquilizer before he can bite her. he passes out. damon drags him to the basement. it's quite fitting that they go to the basement. in literary analysis (and dream theory) the basement represents the subconscious, the place where secret things are hidden. earlier in the season, stefan hid damon (his shadow self, the voice of the darker parts of his psyche) in the basement. now, stefan himself is hidden there. the boys' roles have switched and now stefan is playing the shadow role, while damon is the character. the biggest difference between stefan and damon is that damon is willing to embrace the darker parts of his character, while stefan is not. earlier in the season, stefan trapped damon in the basement and left him there. he walked out into the sun and tried to forget about what was happening with damon. now, damon is staying in the basement with stefan (and elena). he is willing to accept the darker parts of himself (stefan), meaning that he is a more realized person. shocking, i know.

SPN 1X20 Dead Man’s Blood
this sounds vaguely like a plot episode, so uh let’s see how this goes
god i can’t believe this is only the second episode I’ve been able to watch this weekend, I am a Failure
So this Mr. Elkins guy looks like he might be a Hunter? maybe?
ooo lady in leather jacket
I don’t care if she’s evil, she’s pretty
Please don’t tell me Mr. Elkins is their “dinner plans”
HER EYES CATCH ON THE LIGHT LIKE A CAT THAT’S SUCH A COOL EFFECT
Ah silver bullets, ok VAMPIRE TIME BABIEEEEEE
Listen, Vampires sexy and I can’t bring myself to watch Vampire Diaries, this is what I got
Dean is trying to get Sam to go back to Sarah ha
DO IT SHE’S BADASSSSS
ok see the fact that Dean just knew he saw the name Elkins in his dad’s journal: how many times has he read that journal??
Also the way he just Knew it was a Colorado area code, that’s a cool skill, I want that skill
also I was right, hunter, but yeah he had the journal with the symbols and such, it was kinda obvious
the ~spooky figure~ is watching them
is it john? it’s john isn’t it
I like this “detective work outside the law” vibe,
with the etching of the scratches and the paper and the blood on the other side? ah yes the Good Shit
oh look it’s John I did not miss him
The “Sam argues with dad while Dean gets quiet” is....I don’t know how to say it, but older siblings tend to do it
it’s familiar is my point
*cinema sins voice* “If you’re reading this I’m dead cliche” DING
yOu wOn’T knOw it’S a VampiRE these motherfuckers wear all leather and their eyes glint when the light catches them, it’s not that hard?
okok lore: thought to be extinct, cross or stake do nothing, real bloodlust and the fangs are more spiky dentures that grow in
I like the fact that the myth gets garbled and no one’s entirely sure what’s going on, that feels very realistic
Dean: vampires...gets funnier every time I hear it
Boi wait till u meet ur angel bf
oOO John’s comments about ruining the car hit, you can tell, sibling thinks it’s nothing, fucking CHRIST
I hate John
"treats us like children” flhasofa
“you’re ok with entirely surrendering to dad” “if that’s what it takes” SFDHAPSI DEAN OH MY GOD UR DAD SUCKS
vampire wears a cross as a “fuck you” I think? That’s pretty badass
“wait for Luther the Vampire” great that’s certainly a Name for the vampire king or whatever
The captive girl spit in his face, good for her
I mean she’s probably gonna die but whatever at least she’s got some kind of something
This luther vampire guy looks like an eboy
HE’S GOT THE FUCKING ASIAN TATTOOS TO PROVE IT AHAHAAH
Dean is playing peacekeeper that’s Unfortunate and it SUCKS
the “YOU SAID DON’T COME BACK’ ADSFHASIPFSIP
force feeds her blood with a...lesbian kiss...I feel like as far as humanizing lgbt people this did not do a good job at that
I mean again, super mega hell, it’s not like I’m that surprised
oh yay beheading time
is John gonna stick around the rest of the season? Noooo
At least he dies
“yes Sir,” DEAN HE’S NOT A SIR STOP THAT
oooo Old Hunter Lore from the 1830s and the pentacle insignia, that’s pretty cool
they’re really just...gonna walk in there....
why the fuck do they sleep in hammocks that’s like the weirdest shit I’ve ever heard
UR VAMPIRES GO GET YOUR COFFINS
And of course, the vampire leader sleeps in a bed, what lore are they even drawing from here
The drinking vampire blood IS something from actual lore, from what I can tell, but it’s like....kinda jumbled? so they’re picking and choosing
although that is how most lore things work
oh god Sam and John 1 on 1 I don’t like this
Ok so John did plan for college? then what was his Damage
“stopped being your father, became your drill sergeant” YEP YEP THAT’S IT THAT’S NOT HOW YOU PARENT
this sounds like Hargreeves. Or my dad sometimes, depending on his mood
god i hope no one ever sees this
Dean’s really the only one that hasn’t had a love interest die in a horrible way yet has he
Cas get in here
“whatever happened to that college fund” “Spent it on ammo”
F U C K
Are...they...using Dean as bait? is that the plan
dead man’s blood? oh that’s a COOL AS SHIT ELEMENT I LIKE THAT
vampires...mate for life? WHAT??
I feel like Sam also wants the family to be together but has no way to handle it like Dean might
poor older sibling syndrome
OHO? DEAN STANDS UP TO HIM?
THE FUCKING VOICE QUIVERS WHEN HE SAYS “all due respect, that’s a bunch of crap...you sent us on these trips yourself....you can’t be that worried about us”
F U C K
DEAN JUST WANTS HIS FATHER NOT TO DIE?? AFTER EVERYTHING?
JOHN YOU SELFISH PRICK
SIBLING SOLIDARITY YESYES Y E S STAND UP TO YOUR DAD TOGETHER
Ah fuck I’m either tearing up or there’s something stuck in my throat
This fucking vampire with the sideburns what the hell
“boo” Smacks with baseball bat
Have I mentioned how much I love Dean? I don’t think I have yet, I love him
THE EYES GLOWING IS STILL SO GOOD AND CRYPTID-Y
at least the lady is wearing something nice

Luther the Vampire has a nice jacket, that’s a nice blue jacket with accents
oh John’s getting pummeled? should i care
ah wait this is gonna hurt the characters I actually care about, I guess I’ll halfheartedly root for him
oh for CHRIST’S SAKE YOU PICK N O W TO START THE “we have as much right as you do to live” Debate when you LITERALLY MADE THEM STRAIGHT UP CORRUPTY VILLAINS AND FRAMED THEM THAT WAY THE ENTIRE TIME? IS THE POINT YOU’RE N O T SUPPOSED TO THINK ABOUT IT? WHAT THE FUCK
did sam just say sir? and Dean not?? CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT or SOMETHING??!!
ok listen, the “We’ll go together” Sam smile, Dean looking dead/dissociating as they say yes sir? hits DIFFERENT
Ok uh wrap up?
1. Vampire lore was HELLA interesting, with the eyes glowing, dead man’s blood, second set of fangs cool. The “mate for life” thing was WEIRD, and how garbled the myth got was kinda the point so I liked it right up until the end. The one strange thing is the woman acted INSTANTLY evil once she got turned, and then they framed like people trying to live their lives was a bad thing by reinforcing it both with the visuals and the story. So like 10/10 except for the last ten minutes(hell I’ll even take the hammocks, that was kinda funny), which were just...why
actually speaking of lore, the hunter network lore and stuff was also really fun, I liked that. Again, all good except for the ending bit as far as lore
2. John....fuck john....fuck him so much I hate him so much what the hell
3. In all honesty, we haven’t gotten a lot of Dean recently, and getting that again(with that killer performance holy SHIT) is just? Oh my god?? The way they both handle being with their dad in different ways? Dean playing peacekeeper and desperately trying not to rock the boat because the oldest tends to get more shit? the hardcore dissociation at the end????
Listen I’m an older sister, of course I’m gonna project at least a little bit, leave me alone he’s my favorite emotionally stunted character
I guess we’re coming up on the end of the season, and tbh, the only good part about this is that it means john will die soon. That’s gonna be a Time. ok, till next time wheeeeee

Super late, I know. I like your stories on AO3, so I found your tumblr for some Skyeward content because I’m sad and deprived. Saw the post on “What if Skye didn’t know he was Hyrda in the 1x19-1x21 timeframe?” I am super interested. If you don’t want to look back and share, that’s cool. Just wanted to let you know a) I really like your writing and b) super interested in this meta.
Wow, thank you so much!  I’ve been sitting on this ask, because I’ve wanted to answer it, but it needed time and attention.  I guess I’m working on my inbox today, so here we go.
I’ll admit, I have more questions than an actually coherent concept of how this would play out, so you’ll have to bear with me on that.  But let’s say that Ward didn’t have Koenig’s blood on his neck, so when they’re making out on the couch, Skye never finds it.  (We’ll also just assume they kiss for a couple minutes, then stop and move on.)  Trying to keep with the story as it was shown, Ward would have made up some excuse for why they needed to leave, so Skye could open the drive.  Maybe using the same one, maybe not.  My personal opinion is that he would need a much more believable excuse than, “Oh I just talked to Coulson!”  Skye wouldn’t necessarily believe that, because she was so attached to Coulson and would have asked a bunch of follow up questions, if she had no reason to be suspicious of Ward.  (And honestly, that should have tipped Ward off that she knew, but I think he was just trying to get through each moment, so he accepted it.  But I digress.) So they take off and Ward’s all, “Where do we go to unlock it?” And she tells the truth, that it is altitude locked, so 35,000ft, wherever, and they’re good.  So...then what happens?  She’s unlocked the drive, Ward needs to get it to Garrett, and he Does. Not. Want. Her. Hurt.  There’s also Mike out there (allegedly) tailing Ward, just in case.  There are two ways I see this playing out, really.  I think Ward would be adamant about not taking Skye to Garrett, for a million different reasons, Raina not being the least of these.  So, I think he either takes her to a public place, where she’d be generally safe and could reconnect with Coulson & the team, and then he slips away back to Garrett, and kind of abandons her.  This is not great and she would be heartbroken and pissed about it, but I think it’s a pretty safe option.  The other option, which is much riskier for their relationship, is to hide her away somewhere, away from SHIELD, from Coulson, from Hydra, Garrett, and Raina.  The risk here is that he’ll have to tell her the truth in order to get her to cooperate, and if she doesn’t believe him and hates him for what’s happened, he’ll be stuck with her hating him to his face.  That’s MUCH harder than her hating him from afar, but he knows she’s safe with Coulson & co.  The reward is also greater, because if she does understand him or at least doesn’t hate him entirely, she’ll stay with him.  He’ll still have to leave to go back to Garrett, but he can keep her safe to some degree.   But how long can that last?  I like to imagine that his knowledge of her father would have come up soon after this too.  I can’t quite decide if Ward would try to keep her away from her father (who we only knew as that Bleeding Man at the end of Season 1) or if he would have tried to help her connect with him (thinking more of Cal).  I can see it both ways, but connecting her to Cal would still be a risk because of Raina.  I do think Ward would eventually reach a point where he would have to decide between Garrett and Skye.  If the rest of the story played out similarly, Garrett would be dead, so that would make the choice for him.  But if not, what would force that decision.  I do think the longer Ward spent with Skye, especially one-on-one and protecting her and their romantic relationship budding, the more likely he would choose her.  But I think that’s a function of time and his bond with her deepening.   There’s a lot of details I could walk through, but that’s the gist of my thoughts and musings.  I always wonder what Ward’s plan actually was, and I have a feeling he didn’t have a really big, detailed one.  He was figuring it out as he went, reacting to each new variable.  He had multiple strategies in play, but they were only a few steps out each and he was constantly adjusting.  It’s a fascinating thought exercise, at the very least.  Fantastic fic fodder at the most.

SPN S1 Review
I honestly have no idea if this post is about to be hella long or moderate, but I feel like a lot of my feelings got aired out when I was reviewing each individual episode, so I’m just gonna dump the rest of my thoughts that I’ve jotted down while watching this season here. This is basically gonna be me saying, “Wow, this was interesting,” or, “This is similar to/different from later seasons because…” These are all coming from notes on my computer, so they’re half-baked. Nothing too fancy or analytical, but I’ll be doing one of these for every season.
Random thoughts:
I don’t like the monster-of-the-week, episodic format that much, and a lot of those episodes this season felt average in quality for me. However, when you don’t have much else to focus on besides an arbitrary goal of the boys finding John to kill something they know nothing about, it isn’t so bad. Filler episodes suck more later because they’re often completely disconnected from the main story, which isn’t the case for most filler episodes in this season. Plus, the main stories later have more involved goals for the season than this one did, which made the filler episodes later more annoying. For example, if Sam and Dean want to hunt a Tulpa at a haunted house because John is off doing something somewhere, that’s fine. Kill the time. But if Sam and Dean really need to figure out a way to kill God, like, now before Chuck decimates every fleck of existence he’s ever created, maybe don’t waste my time with an episode about a wood nymph, you know? If the stakes are higher, then the quality episodes shouldn’t appear with less frequency. All I’m saying.
The tone, acting, and writing of these characters is so different. Like, when you know a show intimately, these kinds of differences between one season and the next are natural to you. It’s not like I wasn’t aware that the boys looking for their father feels a lot fucking different than the boys having a kid, but when you actually let yourself be aware of how much the show has changed, it’s kind of crazy. Like, if I just think about it offhand, I’m like, “Yeah, this is Supernatural.” But if I break the fourth wall a bit in my mind, it’s like, “Damn, I really did watch these characters and their actors mature for fifteen years, didn’t I?” Crazy.
There are so many episodes that end with the Impala driving down the road. Like, an aerial shot of it. And if the very last scene isn’t that, then it’s probably the scene right before the last scene. Until the last few episodes, that is.
I don’t know why I’ve written this down, but it’s easier to remember episode titles in season one because you can match it to the creature without having to remember the plot. Like, “Oh, the Wendigo episode.” I’ve also said in this same note that the folklore plots died out later on in the series, which is true.
A quote from my notes: “The show really does feel better with Cas, huh?” Look, I’m not gonna say that the S1 finale didn’t slap, because it did. However, I will say that Cas can brighten any episode up, so, had he been in the series from the beginning, the season finale may not have been the only S1 episode to slap. Not that there weren’t other episodes that were good, but you know. Also, this isn’t to say that Cas should’ve been around the whole time because him coming into Dean’s life when he did was exactly perfect.
They do this later, too, but a handful of episodes in the early seasons will be like, “Here’s a girl. Now, one of you Winchesters, go bond with her this instant.” And it’s weird? You don’t need to bring a girl in just to make googly eyes at one of the boys? You could just give her the story she was supposed to have but minus all the flirting?
So, Sam is meant to be the central character for the first five seasons, right? Yes, Dean is supposed to be his equal; yes, he went to Hell and had that whole storyline; yes, he’s Michael’s vessel, but it was always really about Sam, you know? Sam was the one who had the connection to the biggest, baddest thing imaginable (at the time), that being Lucifer. Sam was the one chosen for Lucifer. Sam was the one with the psychic abilities and the one to drink demon blood and the reason Dean sold his soul. Dean is obviously a main character with his own story, but Sam was meant to be the special one, yeah? But even so, Dean is such a beautifully complex character because he wasn’t special. You can see that, even in S1—that his specialness came from his lack of central focus. It’s almost like the plot was saying, “Sam,” and Dean went, “I’m gonna cause problems anyway,” and that’s awesome. I don’t know if that makes sense, but I just feel like Dean is the most interesting character in the entire series, and he wasn’t even the one S1 picked out as special.
Sam’s psychic abilities seemed a lot cooler when you didn’t know as much about them. Like, yes, Sam having those abilities for the purpose of housing Lucifer is cool and all, but it felt so much more mystical when it just seemed like something Sam could do for some reason. Not that that would’ve been a better payoff than what we get—it’d be stupid for the story to say, “I know a demon chose you to be the vessel of Lucifer himself, but the psychic thing you can do? Just a coincidence”—but it’s some food for thought.
John is barely fucking there even though his existence permeates the entire fucking season. I thought he was so much more present than he was in this series. They treated him like they treated Cas. “We said his name a few times, that’s good right?” No. No, it isn’t.
I hate the pattern the episodes have in S1. It goes: location name, bad thing happens in said location, Sam and Dean talk about said thing, they go to said location, they research and maybe flirt with some random girl, they fight, they drive away in the Impala. Like, nearly every episode is like that.
Without demons in the mix that often, the tone of S1 is really different when you compare it to every other season.
Dean is a lot more emotionally vulnerable in this season. I mean, he’s not sitting down with Sam to talk about his feelings all the time, but his emotions are definitely closer to the surface. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that he hasn’t had to emotionally shut down to protect Sam yet. Obviously, he represses things because of the way he was raised, and because he had to raise Sam; however, he still had John to lean on at this point. So, he hadn’t developed that habit of hiding his feelings and leaning on no one but himself yet as he did when he lost John. Because of that, he was able to be scared and tell Sam that he was afraid of losing his family and stuff like that. He becomes a way darker character in after John dies, and he more or less only leans fully on one other person for the rest of the series, albeit in a different way.
John saying in 1x21 that he wants Dean to have a home after Azazel is killed is the saddest thing I’ve ever heard. For one, because John is aware that he deprived Dean of a real home, and by extension, is aware that Dean is damaged because of that. But also, it’s sad because Dean has lived 26 years of his life up until now without ever having a home he felt safe and loved in.
Dean running from a potential fight with Azazel in 1x22 is super interesting because he’s fighting to be a part of his family rather than simply fighting for them to be saved. Dean doesn’t want to die, isn’t willing to die. That’s something that definitely changes later. Big time.
Filler episode rate:
By my count, which admittedly might be wrong, there were 7 episodes that were primarily main story episodes this season and 15 monster-of-the-week/filler episodes.
Now, in the early seasons, it isn’t as easy to separate the filler from the main story because almost every episode will deal with character conflict that’s tied to what’s going on with the main story. However, I called it a filler if the primary plot was just a random hunt. For example, I called “Scarecrow” a filler because, even though Meg was introduced after Sam and Dean have a big fight, the main plot is hunting a god.
My bottom 5 episodes in order:
These next two sections are based on my ratings of these episodes from my reviews of every episode. I’ve just ordered them, with one being my least favorite/favorite episode this season.
5.) 1x07: Hook Man
4.) 1x03: Dead in the Water
3.) 1x02: Wendigo
2.) 1x13: Route 666
1.) 1x08: Bugs
My top 5 episodes in order:
5.) 1x14: Nightmare
4.) 1x06: Skin
3.) 1x15: The Benders
2.) 1x21: Salvation
1.) 1x22: Devil’s Trap
My top episodes for Sam:
This section and the next will just be me bringing up some good points of development for Sam and Dean throughout this season. I mean, of course they develop almost all the time, but these episodes are some of the best/most interesting. At least, in my opinion. If you want to read more about my reasons, check out my reviews. Just search for “spn s1 reviews” on my blog.
1x05: Bloody Mary - Sam’s psychic abilities got alluded to for the first time during this episode, but it also told us how much Sam blamed himself for Jessica’s death.
1x10: Asylum - Sam’s resentment for Dean is voiced, and though he’s under the influence of a ghost while he talks about Dean, some of it is supported by development in other episodes this season.
1x14: Nightmare - Sam bonds with Max over their shared abilities and pasts. We also get to see that Sam initially related his own trauma when growing up to Max’s, even though he acknowledged that Max had it worse at the end. It’s an interesting point of development that Sam saw his upbringing that way.
1x19: Provenance - Through Sarah being a part of this episode, Sam reveals that he sees himself as dangerous because the abilities he has has put the people he loves in danger in the past.
1x21: Salvation - Sam reveals that he’s willing to die, and by extension, risk his family to get the job of killing Azazel done.
1x22: Devil’s Trap - Sam has to choose between losing his family through getting his revenge or losing his chance at revenge to save his family.
My top episodes for Dean:
1x06: Skin - Dean’s abandonment issues are touched on for the first time.
1x09: Home - Dean shows fear when faced with returning home and dealing with the trauma of what he went through the night Mary died.
1x12: Faith - This is the first episode that we see a serious internal conflict in Dean about the worth of his life, which is interesting, because we can see in later episodes that he doesn’t want to die. However, his attitude in this episode seems to suggest that he doesn’t see his life as valuable.
1x18: Something Wicked - Honestly, this isn’t my favorite episode in the world, but it’s the first flashback episode of the series; in it, you’ll see the reason behind Dean’s feelings of responsibility regarding Sam.
1x21: Salvation - Dean insists that nobody will die to kill Azazel, showing that he wants to be a part of his family rather than just saving them.
1x22: Devil’s Trap - Dean shows a darker side of himself in an attempt to get John back, and his fears of being unneeded by his family are revealed as well as his fears of losing his family.
Well, that’s all I’ve got for this season’s review. I’ll rate this season in my series review that I’ll write once all this is over, but my impressions right now are that the first season of Supernatural was all right. It didn’t necessarily walk in a straight line, but it still felt like there was a definite destination. And, on top of that, the season ended in one of the most banger ways an SPN season has ever ended. The monster-of-the-week stuff has made most of the episodes this season ones I would probably not revisit, but S1 is definitely still special.
We’ll see if this changes later, but for now, my rating (and average, based on my ratings in my reviews) for S1 is ★★★☆☆.

A List of All of Sam Winchester’s Injuries
Now, this list might not be the most accurate. I did not sit down and watch every single episode in full, eyes glued to the screen for every time Sam got injured. I only skimmed. Here’s a gif I made to show how I did it:
Tumblr media
(sorry it’s bad quality, it’s the first gif I’ve ever made) I skimmed through the episode and used the little preview screen to look for any time there was fast movement, blood or a spell that might require someone cutting their palm. I also kept an eye out for angel-banishing sigils. Since I only skimmed, there’s a chance I missed some injuries or even times that Sam was magically healed. So again, might not be an accurate list but I did my best. Feel free to tell me anything I missed.
Here’s a key to help you through the list: - most of this lists the actual injury, e.g. “cut on left temple” but other times it’ll list an action that may cause injury, e.g. “thrown into wall” - “thrown into / against” means that he impacted the object, but the object did not break / he did not go through it - “thrown through” means that the object broke on impact and he ended up on the other side - “internal pain” means that someone used magic to do something to him, but I have no idea what, all I know is that he looked in pain and was mostly gripping his stomach - “handcuffed” means actual handcuffs were used, “tied around wrists” means either rope or zip-ties were used - “punched” means just punched in the face, any other area on the body will be specified - any episodes that aren’t on the list means he wasn’t injured in them
Some misc notes: - I do not include injuries that don’t actually happen, e.g. future visions, nightmares, hallucinations or a fake reality - I might be inconsistent with the amount of times I specify what was used to knock Sam out, and not specifying. Sorry about that. It’s because I either just couldn’t see the object, or I was lazy that day - I don’t usually specify the size of the injury either, I usually just say “cut”, sorry. I only realised 6 seasons in that I probably should be specifying the size, and also taking screenshots, but I couldn’t be bothered going back back and fixing it, nor could I be bothered specifying the size from then on. I’m sorry, it was just going to feel weird if 6 seasons in I only then start specifying - I don’t include possessions as injuries, but I do specify when injuries happen while possessed - I include some commentary of what kind of injuries I thought should’ve happened based on the action - There’s also a list of Dean’s injuries, but there won’t be a list for Cas. Going into this, I only wanted to know Dean and Sam’s injuries for some redesigns I want to do, I didn’t feel it was necessary for me to know Cas’ because he won’t have scars in my redesign (at least his vessel won’t). Please don’t expect me to go back and make a list for Cas, this already took up so much of my time and I don’t want to do it again.
Let’s begin, shall we?
Season 1
1x1: Pilot - five holes in centre of chest from fingers 1x2: W*ndigo - falls down a hole 1x4: Phantom Traveler - head banged against wall 1x5: Bloody Mary - infected by Bloody Mary 1x6: Skin - tied to a chair around his neck, chest, hips, wrists and ankles - bottle smashed over head - tied around wrists - cut under right eye - punched - kneed  - kicked into bookshelf - hit across face with pool stick - elbowed in face - tackled into table - strangled - cut on left side of forehead 1x7: Hook Man - stabbed in right forearm with hook  - thrown into bookshelf that then falls on top of him 1x9: Home - strangled with lamp cord - thrown into walls and cabinets 1x10: Asylum - mind influenced by Ellicot - punched and knocked out 1x15: The Benders - cuts on both hands  - cut on chin 1x16: Shadow - 4 claw marks across left cheek - wrists tied - cut across nose 1x17: Hell House - choked with an axe handle 1x18: Something Wicked - life force sucked out of him, process interupted before completed 1x19: Provenance - hit by a dresser 1x22: Devil’s Trap - punched - split lip

Ok, so, I’m now remembering why I felt season two wasn’t so great originally. Greg and Tamara. I love both the actors (I mean, Ethan Embry as Greg was brilliant in Empire Records and Sonequa Martin-Green as Tamara I loved on The Walking Dead (RIP Sasha). But now that Cora is gone I feel like the rest of this season is almost being tacked on unless something big is about to happen. Both Regina and Gold are struggling between being good and evil, neither of whom are trying to be good for themselves but for other people. We also got another fairy tale character in a flashback who I hope becomes more significant in the future.
Summary: Belle ‘regains’ her memories as a barfly named, Lacey, and Gold tries to win her heart. Regina discovers that Neal is Henry’s father and suspects that Emma is hiding something from her. In the EF, Robin Hood tries to steal a wand from Rumplestiltskin and gets tortured for his actions, but Belle frees him, despite what consequences it may bring.
Opening: Robin Hood shooting an arrow.
New Characters:
Robin Hood: I know we technically don’t find out his name until almost the end of the episode, but it’s pretty obvious from the moment we meet him who he is, so let’s not pretend we don’t know who he is. He breaks into Rumplestiltskin’s castle to steal a wand. First off, he’s cocky as hell if he thinks he can break into the Dark One’s castle without him finding out. True that it’s the middle of the night, but Robin Hood has got some balls. He’s also dumb as hell if he thinks an arrow to the chest will kill him. Did he not do any research about Rumplestiltskin and the fact that he’s immortal? Robin seems very surprised that the arrow from his magic bow that can hit any target didn’t kill Rumplestiltskin. I’m very surprised that Rumplestiltskin decides to torture Robin instead of kill him right on the spot. Gaston came to fight for Belle and Rumplestiltskin turned him into a rose which killed him right on the spot, yet Robin is just getting tortured (ok, it’s still bad, but killing him outright would have seemed the more obvious choice)? Belle goes in to rescue him. He’s strung up by his wrists, and for the amount of blood Rumplestiltskin had on him (and the apparently other aprons that needed washed), Robin has very little blood on him. I expected him to be disemboweled or cut to shreds at least. Robin is afraid that Belle will get punished for letting him out, but Belle won’t leave because she’s afraid of going back on her deal with him. Robin is waiting for a Marian who is sick. He heals her with the wand he stole, and she’s pregnant. They run off when Rumplestiltskin fires an arrow at them but ‘misses’. I’m assuming we’re going to see Robin and Marian again and that’s why Robin didn’t die in this episode.
Sheriff of Nottingham/Keith: In the EF he seems to be a drunk (as evidenced from him having a hard time getting off his horse and his flask). He’s delighted that Rumplestiltskin has a beef with Robin Hood, but he also knows that Rumplestiltskin likes to make deals, so he has one for him. Idiot. Don’t go making deals with him when you don’t have to. He tries to get Belle for the night, but Rumplestiltskin says she’s not for sale. He attempts an hour, then twenty minutes. You’re not doing much to help your cause here Nottingham. Rumplestiltskin pretends to think about it, but then steals Nottingham’s tongue and tells him he tells him what he wants to know and he’ll get his tongue back. Nottingham agrees. We learn that Robin Hood ruined Nottingham, stole his woman, and made him the laughing stock of Nottingham (and this is where we learn he’s the Sheriff of Nottingham, also, I’m thinking making him a laughing stock wasn’t very hard). He also tells us that the thief is in Sherwood Forest. And if you still aren’t sure who our thief is, he tells us his name is Robin Hood.
I don’t think we ever get Nottingham’s SB name, but the credits list him as Keith, so that will be easier than calling him Nottingham here as well. We first see Keith hitting on Lacey in the bar and he is an A number one creep. He tells her he’s had his eye on her for a while. Now that we know that he wanted to make a deal for her back in the EF, this is even more creepy. She blows him off pretty quickly though. But apparently she kept in touch with him or got his number because she leaves her date with Gold to go make out with him behind Granny’s. Ew. When Gold grabs him off of Lacey he snivels that he didn’t know she was here with Gold and runs off. Keith later goes to apologize again to Gold, because he didn’t realize they were still together. Gold informs him that they aren’t together, so Keith assumes everything is okay between them then, and tries to shake Gold’s hand. Of course, this is when Gold decides that he’s tired of doing the right thing and takes Keith’s tongue again so no one can hear him scream while he beats the crap out of him.
Character Observations:
Belle/Lacey: We are back to right after Belle is taken to Rumplestiltskin’s castle after agreeing to be his maid in Skin Deep. It might be one or two days after she went to work for him, and the chipped cup scene should have happened at some point here, because she was still in her gold dress, and Rumplestiltskin gave her the list of what she had to do in the castle. She is crying because he’s locked her in a dungeon. Rumplestiltskin complains about the noise and gives her a pillow. Belle thinks she can finally sleep because she’ll be more comfortable, but he really gave it to her to muffle her crying.  Then Robin Hood breaks in and is captured and tortured by Rumplestiltskin. Belle is horrified at what Rumplestiltskin is doing, especially because all he tried to steal is a wand. Rumplestiltskin says the thief tried to steal from him. And you get skinned alive if you steal from the Dark One. Belle says no one knows that. Rumplestiltskin says they will now and leaves. Really, no one knows that bad things would happen if you steal from the Dark One? I’d think that was just common knowledge. So Rumplestiltskin leaves and Belle takes the opportunity to free Robin. He wants her to come with him, but she made a deal with Rumplestiltskin and won’t go back on it. She’s putting her kingdom before herself. She’s not afraid that Rumplestiltskin will kill her for freeing the prisoner? She’s known him for about two days at this point. Belle is reading a book when Rumplestiltskin goes to torture Robin Hood again and finds him missing. Belle admits to letting him go because she doesn’t think he deserves to die. Rumplestiltskin tells her she reads too many books (where’s the lie?). She talks about seeing the good in him and he only wanted to escape with his life, but Rumplestiltskin shows her the empty wand holder. Belle, always thinking the best, says he must have needed the wand for something. Rumplestiltskin says that people who steal magic never have good intentions. Belle still doesn’t like that answer so she counters with you never know what’s in a person’s heart until you get to know them. Rumplestiltskin is going to find Robin, kill him with his own bow, make Belle watch, and make her clean it up. Belle finally looks frightened. In the carriage to find Robin Hood, Rumplestiltskin is worried because he’s losing track of the thief, Belle suggests giving up and going home, but Rumplestiltskin can’t let him get away because of his reputation. Belle thinks letting people know he’s not such a beast is a good thing. She asks him why he didn’t kill her for letting the prisoner go. He claims it’s because good help is hard to find. She tries to convince him that he’s a good man underneath and not so dark and yada yada yada, all the things we always hear her say about him and he’s never going to change Belle! Honestly, I wonder if Emilie DeRavin just stopped looking at her scripts because she just says the same thing in every single episode. Ugh! There’s a difference between finding the man behind the beast and just being a fucking psychopath who likes power and killing people. But I digress. Eventually she agrees that he’s dark, because Rumplestiltskin won’t even give her an inch about being a better person. They come across the Sheriff of Nottingham who wants a night with Belle in exchange for information. Belle looks shocked but doesn’t seem worried that Rumplestiltskin will sell her for information. Walking in the forest, Belle tells Rumplestiltskin she won’t stand by and watch him kill a man. Rumplestiltskin reminds her that’s the whole point of him bringing her with him. They find Robin and he’s healing a woman who is sick with the wand. Belle is truly happy that he didn’t use it for power or evil, and that she was right about not knowing what’s in someone’s heart. Rumplestiltskin pushes Belle into the ground so she can’t get away? I’m not sure why he does this, because it doesn’t stop Belle from continuing to talk or from seeing that the woman is pregnant. Belle doesn’t think he’s the type of man to leave a child fatherless. Oh plot contrivance, just the one thing that will make Rumplestiltskin not kill Robin Hood. He fires a warning shot instead. Belle asks what happened and he claims to have missed, but she knows she got to him because any arrow fired from that bow always hits its target.  Belle’s delivery of the line about the bow is the best. It’s the only time I’ve seen her be sarcastic. Be more sarcastic Belle. She hugs him for sparing Robin’s life. When they return to the castle, Rumplestiltskin shows Belle the library. He claims it’s just another room for her to clean, but she sees through his facade. She tells him he’s not who she thought he was, and she’s glad.
We don’t really know much about Belle’s Lacey persona. We know she is the complete opposite of Belle. She’s loud, a flirt, and boasts a wardrobe similar to cursed Ruby’s. She likes her alcohol and she’s an expert pool player. She also likes hair bands (as evidenced by her knowledge of Van Halen). She agrees to go out on a date with Gold, but apparently she only does it to be nice, and had hoped that he was a little more like the rumors about him (that he wasn’t a good guy). She doesn’t even feel bad that she caught him making out with Nottingham while they were on a date together. But she’s much more into him once she catches him beating the crap out of Nottingham. They go through the same dialogue they went through as Belle, where he’s not who he thought she was, but she’s glad. And he tells her he is darker.
Rumplestiltskin/Gold: So Rumplestiltskin is pretty much an ass through most of this episode. It’s nothing we haven’t seen before, but he’s just taken in Belle and he’s already annoyed with her crying and she’s already having to clean up blood soaked aprons. He leaves the castle in the middle of torturing Robin Hood for some reason, and when he gets back, Belle has freed the prisoner. Now, from what we’ve seen of Rumplestiltskin in the past, this is not usually his MO. Usually he just kills the person forthright. So why the show? Is it so Belle knows exactly who she is dealing with? Or does he really want to send a message through Robin? I honestly doubt that anyone would steal from Rumplestiltskin without a good reason. Belle makes it seem like no one knows what he would do if someone stole from him, but considering he’s the DARK ONE, I think they’d get the picture. So Rumplestiltskin decides to hunt down Robin Hood, kill him with his own bow, and make Belle watch since she’s the reason he escaped. Belle keeps trying to wear him down the whole trip, talking about how there’s good in him and he can change, but Rumplestiltskin has been evil for so long that he’s not buying what she’s selling. I’m honestly surprised he didn’t pull out her tongue just to shut her up and I don’t feel that he has any particular feelings for her at this point. He honestly just wants the company. At least he was smart enough not to make a deal with Nottingham for Belle. When they finally do catch up with Robin Hood, Belle convinces him not to kill him because his wife is pregnant, and he couldn’t leave a father childless. Oh look, it’s the one thing that will make Rumplestiltskin have feelings. He shoots the arrow and ‘misses’. Belle is surprised when he decides not to go after Robin Hood, but Rumplestiltskin decides he’s not worth the effort. Belle sarcastically reminds him about the bow but Rumplestiltskin pushes it off as the bow losing his magic and suddenly Belle is right there in his space and he’s a little lovestruck. Belle hugs him and he seems really confused. Probably also that he’s not used to human contact, it’s been awhile since Cora. And as Belle turns away he looks at her with this school boy longing, as if he can’t quite believe what just happened. Belle asks if he’s coming and he gives a shy little smile while picking up his quiver and it would be so cute if it wasn’t Rumplestiltskin and we didn’t already know he’s an asshole and he’s never going to change. Rumplestiltskin ends up showing Belle the library. She thinks it’s a sweet gesture, he tells her that it’s just another room to clean. She takes his hand, he’s shocked by the touching again, and she tells him that she was wrong about him. No, she really wasn’t. He still tortured a man just that morning!
Gold, on the other hand, is having feelings of guilt. He has a dream that it’s Henry’s birthday and he essentially kills him in front of his family because of the prophecy. He startles awake about that. Gold is watching Neal and Henry pretend sword fight at the park. Regina comes by and wonders why Gold’s son is playing with Henry. Gold gleefully informs her that Neal is Henry’s father. Regina thinks Gold planned this, but Gold chalks it up to fate. Regina plays on his fears by telling Gold that none of them will accept him as a doting grandfather. Gold thinks he can do it, but Regina reminds him that darkness always wins out for him. If his own son couldn’t bring out the good in him, who will? And that would be Belle, but Belle still doesn’t know who she is yet. He goes to visit her in the hospital. She’s surprised to see him because the last time they spoke in The Miller’s Daughter he was about to die. She’s glad he’s okay though. She’s finally come to terms that they may have been together in the past. Gold is happy that she’s accepted that. She tells him she remembers him healing her, and it sounds like he’s going to pass it off as meds and what not, but he does tell her it will make sense when her memories come back. Belle wants Gold to help her regain her memories. He agrees as long as she helps him bring out the best in him again. He goes to get her discharged. By the time he comes back, Belle is gone and there is just a matchbook for The Rabbit Hole left behind. He heads to the bar and finds Belle there, except she is no longer Belle, she now thinks her name is Lacey, and she’s essentially a barfly. Gold is very confused as to how Belle turned into Lacey. He goes to see Regina who he accuses of giving Belle false memories, but Regina reminds him that she crossed the town line, so she just jump started Belle’s cursed memories. Regina mocks Gold by saying he won’t kill her to get real Belle’s memories, because he’s on his best behavior for his son. They discuss true love’s kiss as a way to break Belle’s cursed memories, but Regina doesn’t think Lacey will go for Gold. Regina is incredibly calm through this whole exchange, while Gold is getting more and more enraged. So Gold does something that no one expected, he goes to David for help. He wants to know how under the curse David Nolan won Mary Margaret’s heart. David doesn’t want to help because of the whole Gold getting Mary Margaret to help kill Cora thing. But Gold reminds them it was basically a kill or be killed situation. Gold is fine with David not helping, but he let’s David know he’ll owe him a favor if he helps him win Belle/Lacey. David tells Gold that there was still a sliver of Snow and Charming inside their cursed personas, so Gold needs to remind Lacey of the man she fell in love with. Gold goes back to The Rabbit Hole with David as his wingman (the whole situation is hilarious) to try and woo Lacey. He immediately tries to go after Keith for flirting with Lacey, but David stops him. He goes to talk to Lacey but she starts talking about Van Halen and Gold has no idea what to do. He complains to David that they have nothing in common but David tells him he just needs to find a way in. He asks her out and she mentions that she’s heard rumors about him. People are scared of him, he tells her not to let that deter her. They make a date for Granny’s. On the date, Gold is extremely nervous. He orders burgers and iced tea for both of them (Belle’s favorites), but Lacey would rather have chicken parmesan and a bottle of wine. She thinks Gold is a classy guy despite everything she’s heard about him (being ruthless and sometimes people get hurt). Gold says he’s a simple shop owner and procurer of hard to find objects. He says people believe the worst in him but he wants her to believe the best in him. Lacey says she doesn’t see the man that the rumors depict. Gold takes that as a compliment. Lacey says the line about not knowing what’s truly in someone’s heart and Gold gets so flustered that he spills his iced tea on her. She goes to clean herself up and Gold’s practically patting himself on the back. The food arrives and Lacey still isn’t back. Gold catches her making out with Keith behind the diner. Lacey pretty much tells him that she only went out with him to be nice, but she’s not nice, Gold is nice (ha!). Gold tries to get things back on track by saying that’s what she always loved about him, and Lacey gets pissed off because she is not Belle. Gold finally realizes that he can’t get Belle back. Gold runs into Keith again, who apologizes, but Gold’s done. He has no one to be good for anymore (um, are we not even trying to redeem ourselves for Neal anymore?), so he starts beating the crap out of Keith. Lacey sees this and is enthralled. She likes the bad side of Gold, the one everyone talks about. She wants to date this Gold, and Gold is just happy to be with someone who looks like Belle, but lets his dark side out to play. Because that’s not creepy or anything.
Emma: She is shown the bean fields by her parents and doesn’t know if she wants to go back to the Enchanted Forest with everyone. Mary Margaret apparently has changed her mind and wants to go so she can put the whole Cora debacle behind her. Also, I love the whole exchange between Anton and Emma, that they’re actual friends. I’d forgotten that she didn’t even know he was in town because she was in New York. Emma realizes that David and Mary Margaret didn’t tell her about the beans because they want to go back. They tell her they want her and Henry to come too, but Emma insists that this realm is her home. David tells her it’s been nothing but cruel to her and she could get her happy ending in the EF. Emmas not so sure. Emma’s at the docks looking at the storybook when Regina interrupts her. She’s upset that Emma didn’t tell her about Gold being Henry’s grandfather. Emma reminds her that she was too busy trying to keep Regina and Cora from killing her whole family. Regina continues to insult Neal and Emma until Emma tells her to stop worrying about everyone else and start focusing on being the person Henry wants her to be before he’s gone for good. Regina wants to know what Emma means by that. Emma tries to play it off as just a figure of speech and that there’s not a scheme out to get Regina, but she doesn’t believe her. Emma is not a good liar at all. Later on Neal brings a sleeping Henry home. She asks Neal if he ever considered going back to the EF. He’s not interested. Emma and Neal discuss who Storybrooke might not be safe from since August doesn’t remember anything as Pinocchio. Neal tells her she’ll figure it out because she doesn’t stop until she finds what she’s looking for.
Regina: She’s all about doling out the insults to Gold and feeling sorry for herself in this episode. She’s shocked and angered to find out Neal is Henry’s father. She insists that Gold had to know as he procured Henry for her. She doesn’t believe it’s a coincidence. Gold informs her that it’s just fate. Regina’s probably just thinking that now she has another rival for her affections for Henry. Regina tells Gold they’ll never accept him because he covets darkness over everything else. Gold tells Regina she doesn’t know him. She knows him well enough. She ends with the scathing insult that if he couldn’t change for his son, who will he change for. Hey pot, meet kettle. Regina goes to visit Belle. I have no idea why she does this, just to mess with Gold apparently. Because she knows Belle is the only person who can make Gold a better person? Whatever. She picks up a matchbook off the floor and tells Belle she must have dropped it. It causes Belle to get somewhat hypnotized and ‘regain’ her memories. Gold confronts Regina in her office about Belle’s memories. Regina tries to blame it on him since he gave her the curse in the first place, she just jogged the cursed memories out. Gold wants her to fix it, but she can’t because she crossed the town line. Regina mocks him about not killing her because Neal is in town. She continues to mock him about ways to win Lacey over. She is overly calm in this scene whereas Gold keeps getting angrier and angrier. She wishes him luck as he storms out. Regina confronts Emma about Neal being Henry’s father and Emma not telling her. Emma reminds her that she and Cora were trying to kill her family. So I see we’re back to selfish Regina and it’s all about her again. She’s upset about Neal still being in town. Emma says he wants to spend time with Henry. Regina says neither Emma nor Neal wanted to be with Henry the first 10 years of his life. Again, Regina seems to have no compunction about the fact that because of her curse, Emma had no choice but to give up Henry because of how she’d been raised. But sure, let’s just blame Emma and Neal for their circumstances. Emma makes a comment about Regina becoming the person Henry wants her to be before it’s too late. Regina realizes this might mean something, despite Emma blowing it off and trying to placate Regina. She vows to figure it out. Regina later notices the Charming’s bringing all the dwarves back from somewhere and uses magic to find the bean fields. She has a mix of anger and joy on her face when she finds them and realizes what they are.
Tamara/Greg: Greg has made a map of all the places he’s seen magic in SB (do they not realize the whole town is magic?). Tamara asks Greg if he’s had any luck with finding his dad. Greg says no, but he’s sure he’s in town somewhere. He asks Tamara about the package. She says it was too big so it’s just outside the town line. They’ll get it at night. That night Tamara pulls into town with a moving trailer hitched to a car. They finally reveal that the package is a person, and oh look, there’s Hook, foiled again. How many times has he been bested now? Maybe I should keep a running list.
Questions:
Why is Belle still in the hospital? Could her father not bring her home while she was recovering? Or couldn’t someone just bring her to her apartment behind the library that she’s been living in?
Why is Belle always in full makeup? Did she bring her makeup kit over with her to be Rumplestiltskin’s maid?
How does Robin Hood not know the Dark One is immortal?
What is up with Emma and Mary Margaret’s matching hats? That hat seems way out of character for Emma.
They were able to grow a whole vineyard of beans from one clipping? Do we just have amazing soil in this realm considering it’s been maybe a week since they got back from New York and the beans are almost ready?
Why are Tamara and Greg referring to Hook as the package when they are alone? Do they think someone is listening in on them?
Where did Belle get a book from when she didn’t know about the library yet? Did she bring her own books with her? I’m pretty sure she didn’t get to bring anything with her.
How did Belle not notice the wand was missing? She was sitting right next to it!
Where did Lacey get her ‘Lacey’ clothes? They wouldn’t have been in Belle’s wardrobe. Does Lacey have an apartment somewhere that was waiting for her if Regina had ever freed her during the curse?
What is up with Rumplestiltskin’s accent in this episode? It is all over the place.
Why is Regina still mayor? Wasn’t she asked to leave during Lady of the Lake? Did she just resume office again when she was being evil with her mother?
Where did the Lacey persona come from? Lacey didn’t exist during the curse. Belle didn’t have any memories of anything during the curse except being in the mental ward. So was her cursed persona just waiting to be activated like David’s in The Shepherd just in case Regina decided to let her go free?
Why does Gold say for the first time ever he’ll owe David a favor? Does he mean for the first time ever he’ll specifically owe David a favor? Because in Welcome to Storybrooke he did Mary Margaret a favor for saving his life, so it’s not the first time he owes anyone a favor. The wording of it just sounds off.
Since when does Granny’s table have tablecloths? Is this the night dining decor for dates? Do a lot of people come out for dates to Granny’s? Are there no other restaurants in town?
When did Lacey contact Keith? Did she randomly run into him at Granny’s when she was in the restroom, or was she running off and just ran into him outside?
Who does Lacey think Belle is? Does she realize that she was Belle and she just thinks her real memories came back? Or does she think Belle is someone else entirely? Shouldn’t she be a little more freaked out that everyone thinks she’s someone named Belle and she can’t remember that part of her life?
Neal mentions that Pinocchio is cooler than August because he steals less of his money. Did he tell Emma that August stole the $20,000 that was meant for her?
How was Tamara planning on getting the moving trailer inside the town if August was supposed to have left town with her car in Selfless, Brave, and True? And is Greg’s car fixed now?  It was in pretty bad shape after his accident.
Did Hook never have to pee or eat or drink water in the back of that moving trailer. That’s been there for at least two days since Tamara arrived in town.
Observations:
There are 11 candles on Henry’s birthday cake in Gold’s dream, even though Henry is already 11 and he’d be 12 on his next birthday.
Poor Belle, she’s always in a dungeon of some kind. In this episode that is where Rumplestiltskin has her, she was in Regina’s dungeon for years, and then she was in the basement during the entire curse.
The wand that Robin steals is the same wand in Gold’s dream that Henry picks out. It is also the same wand that he stole from Cinderella’s fairy godmother in The Price of Gold.
The bow that Robin Hood has, that always hits its target, is the same bow that Rumplestiltskin gives Snow in Heart of Darkness to go kill the Evil Queen.
Regina triggers Lacey’s memories the same way she triggered David’s in The Shepherd.
Lacey is playing pool with Mr. Clarke, the only other townsperson who has reverted back to their cursed persona.
I counted at least 3 times that the word beast was used to describe Rumplestiltskin: Rumple uses it when he gives Belle the pillow, Belle uses it when talking to Robin Hood, and she uses it again when Rumple questions what people would think of him if he let Robin Hood go.
Don Juan was nothing before he made a deal with Rumplestiltskin.
Emma is looking at a picture of her parents when they were pregnant with her in her nursery in the storybook.
Timeline Issues:
The wand that Robin Hood steals from Rumplestiltskin is the same wand that he killed Cinderella’s fairy godmother for in The Price of Gold, except that doesn’t happen until around the same time as Snow and Charming’s courtship. Snow and Charming are already married when they attend Cinderella’s wedding and we know she and Snow are also pregnant around the same time because in Storybrooke, Ashley was ready to pop out her baby. But we also know that after Belle left Rumplestiltskin’s castle, she was held captive for at least 2 ½ years because of the markings on the wall that we saw in Queen of Hearts. So I have to assume that he procured the wand, Robin Hood stole it,  Robin gave it back to the fairies, and then Rumplestiltskin killed the fairy godmother to get it back. Otherwise, it makes no sense why he had the wand at this point in time before he killed the fairy godmother.
So, Gold goes to get Belle discharged from the hospital. Regina comes in and ‘triggers’ Belle’s memories. By the time Gold comes back, Belle is gone. He picks up the matchbook and decides to go see if she’s there. So, let’s say this whole thing takes an hour from Gold going to get Belle discharged (because seriously, how long could it really take?) to Gold going to The Rabbit Hole to look for her. In that time, she’s managed to a) find clothes, b) find money to buy (several) drinks, c) introduce herself and get friendly with the bartender enough so that he recognizes her from Gold’s description, and d) has already started hustling Mr. Clarke at pool.
All in all, not a huge fan of this episode. Though I am glad to see Hook back. But having to take orders from Greg and Tamara seems beneath even him. So Gold is dark again because Belle is the only one who can make him good, even though Neal is there and probably willing to have a relationship if he’s seen his father change. What was the point of the curse if Gold was going to give up on Neal so easily?! And Regina has reverted to her backhanded comments. She was definitely more season one Regina than we’ve seen all season. Lacey doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. She’s just an excuse for Gold to be who he’s always been without the guilt. Hopefully, a cure will be found soon, although, will Gold want it is the question. And will somebody please tell me what Greg and Tamara are up too? So far all they’re doing is annoying me and I want them off my screen.
Please leave comments and reblog! Let me know if you’d like to be tagged in future reviews.

For people like Braxton, Liz’s scar speaks to the house, the fire, and the girl with the Fulcrum. She was there that night. Has nothing to do with the mark. Braxton hasn’t the slightest idea what the mark represents, and he doesn’t care. A burn scar tells him enough. It represents a blackmail file everyone is willing to die for. She was the child at the fire, and likely the only child. Red was hiding her from Katarina. Braxon asked him, “She’s the one?” Yes. She’s the one who has the Fulcrum. That’s all he sees. A burn scar = fire. Red protecting her = Fulcrum.  Common sense, not rocket science. Because he knows she’s the one from the fire, he knows without a doubt she has its location. To the point he hits up Dr. Orchard and kidnaps her son. Woman, you have the Fulcrum’s location locked away in your memory, and we’re gonna force you to remember where you put it.
Red knows she has the Fulcrum because he’s Katarina. He’s the one who called Fitch about it. Raymond took Masha and the Fulcrum. When you listen to her tape, it’s as if Raymond just learned that she’s been spying on him. It’s the same exact conversation Tom made in S1. Atticus in S6 was the perfect name drop.
Katarina [6x9]: Reddington knows. He knows everything. Tom [1x19]: Mockingbird knows. Requesting immediate evac. She knows.
That’s why Red and Tom parallel - and they continue to parallel.
Liz: Reddington didn’t just have an affair with my mother. She was assigned to him, to be in his life the way you were assigned to be in mine.
They’re not done yet. The mark speaks to who was at the fire and who scarred her, not to the fire itself. So while S5 took us back to the pilot with the imposter reveal, so will S7 with Liz's scar. They brought in Ilya Koslov-imposter Katarina, also at the fire. I did a post not long ago, showing how Tom was centered between Liz's two parents. Seeing where he fits, exactly where they placed his spin-off. After Alexander Kirk’s arc. The man who came to kidnap Masha when he saw the mark written in blood all over the news. I suspect Drexel’s painting was in response to that. Before they reveal Tom, bring Ilya Koslov-imposter Katarina into the show. The suitcase is your middle. Tom telling Liz that her father’s alive. Coincidental for Tom to be carrying her dead father around and dying during that arc? I don’t think so.
“Your father’s alive” = Constantin Rostov “The mark” = Ilya Koslov - imposter Katarina
I haven’t yet rewatched the fire with Ilya in mind, but that’s where I think they’re heading. The mark and the scar. the conversation Red and Liz had in the pilot.
Red: How about a trade? You tell me and I’ll tell you. Tell me about the scar on your palm. I’ve noticed how you stroke it. Liz: There was a fire. I was fourteen. Red: Someone tried to hurt you. Liz: Not exactly, no.
Liz: I was scared when I was your age too. But I had a secret weapon to keep me safe. My daddy gave it to me. It’s very special. I’ve never shown it to anybody. It’s like magic. Beth: What does it do? Liz: Whenever I’m feeling sad or afraid, I just touch it like this, and it makes me brave. Do you want to see if it can make you brave?
Katarina - Raymond - Ilya - Constantin
Tumblr media
The mark in the passport box is someone connected to the mark, not the scar. Shown it’s still in use, since Tom framed Gina by painting it on her passport box, and the imprint placed on the manila envelope in Tom’s safety desposit box. Again, I say ... Red is Katarina, receiving letters from his mother in a safety deposit box. What did he tell Liz in Gina’s episode? Perhaps they exchanged letters. Tom’s deposit box running parallel to Katarina’s. He was sending letters to Gina. Again, I say ... what did Liz say to Agnes in the S6 finale? It’s a long story. Exactly what Tom said of Gina before the S3 wedding. Again, I say ... two people aren’t needed to kill Liz when you had Tom pull a gun on her in her own car. Fake Berlin and Tom weren’t planning ot kill her. They were planning to deliver her to Constantin Rostov just as Kirk hired Solomon to do in S3.
Tom ended things with Gina in The Caretaker -
Tom: I want out, Gina. I never thought I would, but I do. We don’t save people, Gina. We watch them drown.
Forcing Kirk to hire Scottie who hired Solomon -
Solomon: I was instructed to deliver Masha Rostova to my employer and that’s what I intend to do.
Who then blamed Tom for Liz’s death straight to his face -
Solomon: This one’s on you, kid. We’re only in this situation because…
Because instead of choosing to “save” Liz from the man who kidnapped her when she was four, then reunite her with the man he believed was her real father ... he planned to marry her, then take off to a city where he’d be a teacher by day and spy by night. Constantin Rostov wasn’t having that. Furthered by Red’s conversation with Tom in the car in 5x8. Aligning with Berlin and faking her death.
Aligning with Berlin = Raymond Reddington.  Faking her death = Constantin Rostov
Red’s bones in the duffel bag beetween them. Kirk’s gas sign up above them. Dembe fills the tank.
I fully predict a fire taking the Keen2 apartment in S7. I predict Agnes will end up scarred from it, and I predict Fagen will assist Red in ening revenge.
