ITV2 aired a TV special that documented One Direction's journey from 2010-2011 after coming in third place on The X Factor, and releasing their debut album 'Up All Night' in the UK. The documentary follows Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Harry Styles as they enter The X Factor as solo artists until a turn of events gives them the opportunity to come together as a band. It shows their life during The X Factor, to the band releasing their debut single, 'What Makes You Beautiful'. All five members of One Direction travel across Europe to witness the huge impact they have overseas. They encounter screaming fans, perform, have signings, and talk about how excited they are to release their debut album. At the end, they return home to reflect on their new lives.

Hi I’m a longtime listener and I just want to say that in the latest ep in regards to channel4 it’s a really complex channel in the uk that is (arguably) the most left-leaning tv network in the uk and has a specific cross-funding model which involves raising commercial revenues from the market and reinvesting surpluses back into British public service content from UK independent producers. This is different from the BBC who must rely on governmental funding and even has the BBC chair appointed by the government making it prone to misinformation and corruption. It got to the point in 2022 channel 4 was the only tv network that actively challenging the conservative government for their corruption and the conservative government threatened to take away its funding and privatise it.

Although I don’t agree with the 1D documentary nor with some other issues (C4 has had a history of poverty porn programmes) I think channel4 is a lot more complex than what that thesis you read out in the ep was alluding to. I just wanted to say this bc in terms of c4 the positives definitely outweigh the negative and its not the fox news of the uk (that would be talktv and gbnews) and listeners shouldn’t be put off to watch programmes that come out the channel in the future :)

Something something something the processing of film editing means every piece of 1D footage used was a deliberate choice to tell the story Louis wants to tell, both to punctuate what he is narrating and also to tell its own visual story.

never in my life have i been more proud, nor will i ever be more proud of anyone than i am of louis.. he has been surrounded with people who have been emotionally abusing him since he was only eighteen years old, he has felt like he didn't belong despite him putting in the most effort during the 1d days, he has had to deal with too much loss in his personal life, yet he's the most kind & caring person you'll ever come across, his voice sounds like angels singing you to sleep, his love for the people supporting him goes beyond what we could hope for. he has worked so so so hard and i love him with every piece of my being. i wish him all the best, he never deserved even a fraction of the bullshit life has given him & i truly hope life will treat him better from now on
