2023 in Films
I watched way too many films this year. Here are my opinions on some of them
January
Las Cosas Del Querer (1989) - Amazing if you love sad hot people and flamenco
Canadian Bacon (1995) - Incredibly silly and Alan Alda plays the US president
Nope (2022) - A highlight of the year
February
Hellraiser (1987) - This film is actually about miscommunication in this essay I will-
Predestination (2014) - Time Travel and Gender Moments
Malignant (2021) - Camp horror masterwork
Late Phases (2014) - Mediocre werewolf film with some really interesting comments on ageism, ableism, suburbia and religion
March
Sterne (1959) - Plays into some problematic stereotypes from today's perspective but revolutionary for its time, first German film to address the Holocaust
Major League (1989) - A film I only watched to confirm that it uses a weird phrase I also found in my thesis project
Carry On Screaming (1966) - Camp. Gay. Horror. Parody.
Glen or Glenda (1953) - A product of its time and no longer up to date in its understanding of gender but surprisingly revolutionary in its compassion and earnestness despite the bad reviews
April
Taxi Driver (1976) - Isn't it frustrating when annoying people tell you a film is good and then it's actually good?
June
Mr Deeds Goes To Town (1936) - Mr Deeds has autism swag
El Espíritu de la Colmena (1973) - I really wanted to like this because civil war era Spain and Frankenstein are super up my alley but unfortunately it was so much slower than expected
Das Boot (1981) - Very long and claustrophobic but holds up to the hype
Weird: The Al Yankovic Story (2022) - RIP King
July
Nimona (2023) - His big wet eyes bewitched me
First Blood (1982) - You're telling me the film is about Americans fighting an enemy they view as simultaneously weak and dangerous, escalating the situation, and then sending more and more men into a rainforest to die through guerilla warfare after being warned again and again they can't win this? sounds familiar
Barbie (2023) - Insert a bunch of pink emojis
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022) - Made me crave bagels
Jojo Rabbit (2019) - God I love war satires
Sweet Liberty (1986) - Alan Alda having fun and also using his own film as a therapy session
The Majestic (2001) - A rewatch but it's so tragically underrated, Jim Carrey is very good in dramatic roles and McCarthy-era media is like catnip for me
Joker (2019) - This is just Taxi Driver with extra steps
August
Tin & Tina (2023) - Probably one of the worst films I have seen in a while
Battle of the Sexes (2017) - I love women
Four Lions (2010) - The ending really got me, I love when satire gets serious
The Sheriff and the Satellite Kid (1979) - Can we talk about how the theme song is just going "I'm the sheriff" "yes you're the sheriff"
Happiness (1998) - Nauseating but in a "good film but what the fuck" way
They Call Him Bulldozer (1978) - Italian Lagaan
The Talented Mr Ripley (1999) - Sad and Gay
Twister (1996) - So much better than expected
Magnolia (1999) - Cloudy with a chance of frogs, a really long but really good film and I'm not entirely sure I got it
Doubt (2008) - Somehow I watched 5 films with Philip Seymour Hoffman that month because I was haunted by his ghost or something
September
The Terminal (2004) - I assumed this to be more of a classic romcom but the whole concept (based on a true story) is so terrifying and tragic that it made me feel all emotions at once
Apocalypse Now (1979) - I knew a lot of trivia about the film but for some reason I didn't know anything about the cast so every single actor was a surprise and made me go "!!!", Also I kinda wanna write an essay about it
October
Bloodbath at the House of Death (1984) - Some of the gay jokes absolutely killed me
Last Night in Soho (2021) - I'm Not Like the Other Girls to Time Travel Murder Nightmare Pipeline, actually I really enjoyed this one but it's also super silly
The Banshees of Inisherin (2022) - How do you say poor little meow meow in gaeilge
The Menu (2022) - I go to the murder restaurant I order the beesechurger, I was super surprised there's no cannibalism but tbh that would have been low hanging fruit
The Eyes of Tammy Faye (2021) - Explains a lot about religion in the US, I love that she was pro lgbt, also I googled her ex husband and he has a prepper/survivalist thing going on now and scams more people
The Darjeeling Limited (2007) - we can't eat pray love ourselves out of this one boys
Holes (2003) - Hated the book as a teenager for school reasons but gave the film a try and really enjoyed it
Renfield (2023) - I expected werewolves but I enjoyed it nevertheless, My Chemical Romance is on the soundtrack, it's very silly, the effects are great
Interview with the Vampire (1994) - Oh people weren't lying about it being homoerotic
The Big Lebowski (1998) - I've had days that feel like that
November
Pappa ante Portas (1991) - Funnier now that I'm an adult, basically half the jokes my mum makes are from this film
The Meg 2: The Trench (2023) - I watched this while sick and really wanted to see a giant shark fight a giant octopus and boy did it deliver
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022) - Very nice animation style
JFK (1991) - I actually fell asleep halfway through because it's so long but can we talk about how this film is just A-listers but has some of the worst wigs and makeup I've seen
Bottoms (2023) - A spiritual sequel to Heathers
December
When Harry Met Sally (1989) - They deserve each other (derogatory) but that one restaurant scene was pretty funny
The Royal Nanny (2022) - one of the many Hallmark films my mum made me watch and this is perhaps the worst one, incredibly sexist even for a Hallmark film and they clearly mean Mi5 but say Mi7 which was a WW2 propaganda service? Also they really want me to believe there is a British prince called Colin and that he doesn't look like his family tree is a circle?
I forgot the title but there was also the one where two people get stuck in a time loop while trying to make a sponsored youtube video about baking and I didn't really pay attention much but man that was bad

hallo hallo!!
i wanted to talk about MEDIA I LIKE RAHHHHHHHHHHHGGG……
okok
1. Kaiba: kaiba is a sci-fi anime from 2008, it is one of my all time favorites and is SO cool. the art style is so cute and i love the entire premise of it. also - cutest hetero couple in existence in that show.
2. Marble Hornets: this has been a staple in my life since i was in middle school!! it is such an influential piece of horror, and the best slenderverse webseries I’ve watched !!
Gravity Falls : literally the best animated show I’ve seen, absolutely wonderful and funny as fuck. also have major brainrot from this if it isn’t obvious
DEVILMAN FRANCHISE : fucking hell do i love me some devilman, specifically the 1987 vers + manga . don’t get me wrong, i loved dmcb when I first saw it! but as time went on I felt like there were a lot of shortcomings especially with ryo. otherwise the other stuff is SO good!! the manga is full of homosexual tension and i LOVE IT
Early-Mid 2010s creepypastas: fuck. love me some stupid edgy oc’s. obviously have critiques with some but GOD THE NOSTALGIA. and my legal name is .. one of them . you’ll never guess who . (im delusional)

OH that eunseok pic.. he looks too good to be real
now that you’ve mentioned actor!riize….. what movies do you think riize would star in??? personally i am a firm believer that sohee would be in a musical remake like The Greatest Showman or West Side Story (need to hear him sing, there’s just no other way!) and anton in a classic romcom that you’d watch ever year to feel something like 10 Things I Hate About You but as Cam pining after Bianca (as riize’s rep yearner and longing lover)! but what are your thoughts?!!
from, ⭐️
omgee i took your question way too serious and I spent an unrealistic time thinking about what movies i'd like to see riize in and what type of movies i think they'd like.
I honestly can’t see Shotaro in any movies. For some reason my mind goes to him as a child actor? I think it may be because the character reminds me of Shotaro but I see him in a role like Akira in Nobody Knows dir. Hirokazu Kore-eda (2004). Genuinely such a sad but beautiful movie I do NOT recommend for the faint of heart seriously. I could also see Shotaro in a movie with minimal talking, something that is heavily a vibes sort of movie. Like All About Lily Chou-Chou dir. Shunji Iwai (2001). Something that is really heavily focused on aesthetics and is stunning. Maybe something like Aftersun dir. Charlotte Wells (2022). I can just see Shotaro being in a really gorgeous movie honestly. Like the type where you forget what it was even about because it was so beautiful. Also, I can see Shotaro doing voice acting for movies! I think his pronunciation is crazy good and I could definitely see him voicing a very gentle and caring male character like Henry in The Secret World of Arrietty dir. Hiromasa Yonebayashi (2010).
I think Eunseok would really shine in movies that are very human. Like movies about the human condition, or very existential narratives about human life. For example Killer of Sheep dir. Charles Burnett (1978). This is a movie about the life of a slaughterhouse worker and how that seeps into his real life and other outside influences that effect his view on his place in the world. I can Eunseok in a movie that is very melancholic, something you watch once but you kinda always think about. On the more happy side, I can see Eunseok in films people would describe as the “comfort movie”. Movies where nothing happens but a hard hitting and sometimes comforting message is conveyed nonetheless. On the happier spectrum of that movie is Perfect Days dir. Wim Wenders (2023). This is the life about a public toilet cleaner in Japan, nothing happens but it is a still a very beautiful and comforting movie nonetheless. I can see Eunseok really liking these types of movies as well because he has talked about how he thinks about the meaning of life and such. I think introspective films and ones that capture the mundanity and complex nature of human life would really pique his interest. Also Sweet Bean dir. Naomi Kawase (2015)!
Okay now Sungchan. I feel like everyone wants him to be a romcom king but I need this man to be in straight up comedy. Maybe I’m jaded but he’s funny as fuck to me IDGAF. I need him in something like Nice Guys or 3 Men and a Baby dir. Leonard Nimoy (1987). Something kind of outlandish it’s funny like O Brother, Where Art Thou? dir. Joel Coen (2000). I just think he has really good comedic timing and a comedy could really showcase that. But honestly, I see Sungchan more as a television actor. Something really dramatic I wanna see him in True Detective or X-Files. I’m actually opening my eyes to Sungchan in like a crime/mystery. I think something like Chaser dir. Na Hong-jin (2008) or Mother dir. Bong Joon-ho (2009) would be so insanely awesome. Seeing him as a serious detective would be such a change for him I think he’d devour it. A kdrama miniseries centered around crime Sungchan would absolutely devour. OF COURSE though I have to include the romcoms. Some of my personal favorite are 50 First Dates dir. Peter Segal (2004), 10 Things I Hate About You dir. Gil Junger (1999) and The Back-Up Plan dir. Alan Poul (2010). For some reason I can also see Sungchan in a movie where he suddenly ends up becoming a father figure. Makes me think of My Baby’s Daddy dir. Cheryl Dunye (2004) or Big Daddy dir. Dennis Dugan (1999). I literally don’t know why but I can see it clear as day.
I can see Wonbin being an indie movie KING. One of those actors that are rarely in anything that’s projected to be a major box office hit. Also I can see Wonbin being in really nonconventional roles! maybe I’m projecting because of this fic I’m writing but I can see him in films that would be challenging to him. After Yang dir. Kogonoda (2021) comes to mind. Beach Rats dir Eliza Hittman (2017) is a little on the crazier side but I can see Wonbin in a role like this as well. I can also see Wonbin being a part of a big ensemble cast! Like Shotaro I can see him being in a movie that is very heavy on the vibes of it all and maybe ends up being a cult classic? Something that comes to mind is Empire Records dir. Allan Moyle (1995). Or if it’s something a little more culty Hackers dir. Iain Softley (1995). Also something like Go dir. Doug Liman (1999) or Boogie Nights dir. Paul Thomas Anderson (1997). Go specifically is so Wonbin coded to me I don’t know what it is but I think he would shine in a movie like that. Wonbin has such a late 90’s film face I don’t know what it is but I actually need to see him in every single film ever made.
Sohee I’m going to be so honest with you. I can see him in like a very funny kind of off-beat comedy. Where something extremely ridiculous happens or like a movie you watch when you get high. Dazed and Confused dir. Richard Linklater (1993) and Smiley Face dir. Gregg Araki (2007). Something about Sohee tells me he’d be alot of fun in movies like these, he has really good comedic timing and really funny reactions to things that makes me think he’d shine in a movie like these. I’m laughing just thinking about him in a situation like Smiley Face. I also believe him and Eunseok or Sungchan could team up for a hilarious movie like Dude Where’s My Car? dir. Danny Leiner (2001). Similar to Wonbin, I can see Sohee in a movie with a kind of large ensemble cast. Something like Waiting… dir. Rob McKittrick (2005) or Friday dir. F. Gary Gray (1995). Something where he stars side by side with someone else, or he is just the funny side character that ends up involved in a situation. I need him to be in a movie like Superbad dir. Greg Mottola (2007) SO BADDD I think that’d be the funniest thing ever. To go with what you said, I could also see Sohee in a movie adaptation of a musical too! I think seeing him on Broadway or in a play would align more with his interests, but he’s too pretty to not be on the big screen. Sweet Charity dir. Bob Fosse (1969) comes to mind (I can’t decide whether he’d be Charity or Oscar). I think he’d shine in of course one of the more emotional musicals like Les Mis dir. Tom Hooper (2012).
Anton I can see him in period pieces from the 1970-1980’s. This is entirely because of his look from went riize went to Haus Nowhere. He looked fantastic in that two piece suit thingy so now I need to see him in a movie where he has to wear fashion of that nature. Something like Free Fire dir. Ben Wheatly (2016) or Nice Guys dir. Shane Black (2016). Genre wise I can see Anton in coming of age films. He’s talked about extensively graduating from being a baby to an adult so I think it’d be really fitting for him to be in a movie about growing up or the transition from one life stage to another. Me and Earl and the Dying Girl dir. Alfonso Gomez-Rejon (2015). This is one of my favorite movies of all time, one of the absolute best YA novel to movie adaptations and although it is sad it is so beautiful and I could totally see Anton in a movie like this! It does have a romance vibe to it as well so I could really see Anton in a coming of age movie with someone he falls in love with as a catalyst or a very important part of his life. I can also see Anton in a movie where it’s kind of a buddy movie? Like he stars in something with someone side by side with him. Something like Be Kind Rewind dir. Michel Gondry (2008) or Ghost World dir. Terry Zwigoff (2001). I don’t know why but I would absolutely love to see Anton in a movie where he’s growing with someone side by side or they end up completely apart. I guess like Eunseok I’d also like to see him in movies that are incredibly human.

Shitty Superhero Tournament Rules and Bracket
Finally, ¡the tournament is about to begin! The bracket will be posted under the cut, but first let’s get some clarifications and rules out of the way:
The movies here have been selected (with two exceptions*) based on their Rotten Tomatoes movie scores and do not reflect my opinion of their quality. The tournament will be divided into six rounds.
Each movie will come with a quick summary of some of its highlights (or lowlights, depending on your point of view) but feel free to create and submit your own propaganda.
You may vote in any way you want, rooting for whatever gives you the most entertainment in a train wreck sort of way, the movie that’s the most incompetently made, a film you feel is actually really good, or however you want to interpret what the winner of a Shitty Superhero Movie Tournament entails.
Personal attacks/bigoted comments and propaganda WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. If you are here looking for an excuse to be racist/sexist/homophobic/anti-semitic/body-shaming/a dick to people trying to collect a paycheck under the corporate grindstone, fuck off. Just because these movies may be shitty doesn’t mean you should be.
If I make a factual error, feel free to correct me on it. Reblogs are encourage, ofc.
¡Have fun and be kind to each other!

Don't act like this isn't the Democrats fault. They didn't codify Roe when they had the chance, and now they're paying the price.
Hooweeeee. Normally, I just block these kinds of asks out of hand and go on with my day, but you've caught me at the end of two solid days of Rage, and unfortunately for you, I'm not gonna do that. Instead, just to start, I would like to politely ask the following question:
Hello! Have you ever considered the possibility that you may be A Total Fucking Idiot?
Since there are many of us, present company regretfully included, who struggle with history, let's start out with a quick lesson. Roe was handed down in 1973. It took a while to really get evangelicals hot under the collar, but by 1987, in Ronald Reagan's second term, it had definitely happened. To further the Republicans' cherished goal of overturning it, Reagan nominated far-right whackjob Robert Bork to the Supreme Court. The Democrats, led by then-Senator Joe Biden, fought back on a massive scale and defeated the nomination, leading to Anthony Kennedy joining the SC instead of Bork.
In 1992, another abortion-related case reached the Supreme Court: Planned Parenthood v. Casey, wherein Roe was pretty much reaffirmed in its entirety. By 1992, George H.W. Bush had finished one term, generally underwhelmed the public, and was voted out, thus to be replaced by Bill Clinton. In 1994, in Clinton's first midterm election, the Newt Gingrich Republicans took the House and the Strom Thurmond and Bob Dole Republicans took the Senate. This GOP control of at least one branch of Congress remained the case until 2001, when George W. Bush became president. (Also, the GOP Clinton-era Republicans had other things to do, such as the Lewinsky scandal in 1998, back when they still pretended to have moral values and impeached Clinton accordingly). Considering the fact that any attempt to pass a national law to codify Roe was obviously doomed with Dubya in the White House, since he would have vetoed it, and that the Democrats didn't fully control the House, Senate, and Presidency again until 2009, one might feel that formalizing a twice-affirmed decision by the Supreme Court maybe wasn't the top priority. Abortion rights were and are popular (in fact, that's why the three Trumpists on the SC had to lie to the Judiciary Committee about their plans to repeal it), and Obama had other things on his plate. Like, you know, saving the national and global economy from total meltdown after the crisis of 2008, and trying to jam through the Affordable Care Act in the short time he had before 2010, and once more losing the House to the Tea Party. The loss of the Senate followed in 2014. Once again, we didn't get it back until 2021, when the three wingnut justices were already seated on the Court and Trump had run his reign of terror.
Considering those empirical circumstances, the fact that the Democrats have only had control of all three branches of the federal government for two-year periods at MOST and were busy fixing all the other most pressing messes, and that the Republicans have said for decades that this is exactly what they want to do, I am truly gobsmacked (if not surprised) at the sheer number of morons who want to make this, yet again, the Democrats' fault. Apparently the Republicans are just a force of nature who can't really be blamed or actually considered to have agency; it's only ever on the Democrats for Not Doing Enough To Stop Them. Instead, we now have hordes of told-you-so-ers swarming out of the woodwork and acting like this was a five-alarm fire that the Democrats willfully ignored and/or fanned on. That is incredibly moronic on multiple levels, but hey, that kind of seems to be your Brand. That is, when you're not labeling smug inactivity and self-professed moral superiority as the most pure and correct course of action, but again, we all have our talents.
There was no way for the Republicans to overturn Roe without the exact kind of judicial skulduggery, right-wing extremism, and scads of dark money that finally came together in the perfect storm. (Ever hear of Citizens United in 2010, and the way in which hard-right interest groups have been funding this planned takeover of the judiciary for years? Or does that conflict with your predetermined hypothesis?) Apparently Democrats should have Done More to stop Trump from choosing Supreme Court justices (a Very Smart White Man on twitter made the argument that it was actually Senate Democrats' fault for not stopping McConnell on procedural grounds, or.... something). This was after actual Democrats begged the Holier Than Thous to vote for Hillary Clinton in 2016, explicitly because we pointed out that the Supreme Court was in a precarious position with elderly justices and open seats, and the next president would be poised to reshape it for the next generation. You all laughed at us, more or less openly called us a bunch of bootlicking neoliberal traitors, and told us that the Supreme Court didn't matter and we were all delusional. Then you didn't vote. Then Trump won the election by squeaking out wins in a handful of key states. Then.... well, we all know what happened next.
So tell me, Oh Wise Internet Sage. Where, in what Congress, and according to what actual rules of reality, procedure, and priority, should the Democrats have passed a law to codify a popular twice-affirmed Supreme Court decision that was not under serious threat precisely until this confluence of circumstances took place under the Trump presidency? Be specific, and point out exactly how it would have happened. Otherwise, your argument is bad and you should feel bad.
Biden, Harris, Pelosi, Schumer, Warren, Obama, and all the other prominent Democratic leadership and/or congresspeople have already made strong statements within hours of the draft opinion being leaked. Republicans are screaming in unison that whoever leaked it is the actual story, not the content or impact of the decision (literally what McConnell said today on CNN). The DEMOCRATS DO SOMETHING!!! crowd need to, uh, actually say what they're fucking supposed to do now. Instead you blame RBG, you blame HRC, you blame the Democrats, and absolutely everyone and anyone except the actual people responsible for doing this. You may think it's an enlightened and complex stance that reflects the Realities of the World, or whatever. You may think that Joe Manchin doesn't exist (believe me, I wish he fucking didn't) and that Biden can wave a magic wand and overturn SCOTUS. Do they need to do more? YES! MANY OF THEM HAVE EXPLICITLY SAID THEY WILL BE EXPLORING ALL OPTIONS! BUT WE STILL LIVE (FOR THE NEXT FEW MONTHS) IN A DEMOCRACY AND THAT REQUIRES US DOING OUR JOB AND VOTING IN NEW AND BETTER PEOPLE TO HELP THEM!
I'm sick and fucking tired of this pissbaby whining from the exact same people who make us beg and plead for their vote every single election, feel morally justified in withholding it, and have done literally nothing to advance any of the causes they claim to care about. "Hindsight is 20/20" some of you like to point out, but with the expected irony, you miss it completely when it comes to reviewing any of your own (non) actions and any hint of genuine acknowledgment that your apathy and nihilism helped this happen. So. Suck on that, then go step on a rake. If this should knock some sense into you, we can then talk again.

What is a relationship to be continued
You may ask yourself why this is Important yet it is very important! We will discuss Why they are important to your well being and what type of person you are in a relationship? I think if you take the time to read this post in its entirety and intense complexity you will have a better understanding of where you are in life and what more you can become by understanding the perplexity of every relation to man or relationship because trust me THIS BABY is going to get TOUGH.
Lets start of with the first question what is a relationship
the way in which two or more people, groups, countries, etc., talk to, behave toward, and deal with each other. : a romantic or sexual friendship between two people. : the way in which two or more people or things are connected.
Please go ahead and read one more time because that may or may not be the closest thing of a relationship to that you have a mutual relation and understanding of but its way, way more complex just keep reading.
Each relationship we have encountered has been determined by how we were raised Im going to refer to some quick psycho-social information coming from a study introduced during world war 2 by British psychoanalyst john bowbly, whose lonely childhood gave him a lifelong interest in the power of parenthood.
In the 1970s a test was conducted by Bowlby’s student Mary Ainsworth. She performed the strange situation test where children that's age ranged from 12-18 months were put in a toy-filled room with their mother and given a chance to play. A stranger enters and interacts with the parent and child, then mom exited the room-- leaving behind a confused and alarmed little kid. A few minutes later mom returned and comforted her toddler. Needless to say being separated from the person who feeds, protects, and tends to you is frighting for any toddler, but the test showed definite categories of reaction to that fear.
Why is this important ?
Early Attachment.
As seen above you can see that a study was conducted concerning attachment styles. It's important because it is with this information that you find out what type of relationships You are going to be compatible with. Some types absolutely do not collide but if you think this is all about “how do i form a relationship” well keep reading because its not possible for everyone.
1 Secure, when it is evident to have a secure attachment style when the parenting style was: Warm, attentive, relatively consistent, and quick to respond based on that approach the child's Baseline Emotional Status (BES) would have been happy, confident, and curious which would have subconsciously continues into adulthood with the Child’s expectation of life being: My need will be met
2. Anxious -Ambivalent/resistant, it is evident to have an anxious attachment style when the parenting style was: Inconsistent: sometimes responsive and sometimes not. The Child's BES would have been Insecure, anxious, and intensely emotional which in return would have subconsciously continued into adulthood with the child's expectation of life being: “IF i act in the right ways, I might earn love and my needs may be met”
3. Avioident- ,it is evident to have a avoidant attachment style when the parenting style was: Distant and Cold, or harsh and critical. The child's BES would have been Emotionally shut down which in return would have subconsciously continued into adulthood with the child's expectation of life being: “I can't trust anyone to meet my needs. I must meet my own needs.
Im sure your getting the idea of why this is now important
Lets looks at three statements
1 I find it relatively easy to get close to others and am comfortable depending on them. I don't often worry about being abandoned or about someone getting too close to me.
2. I find that others are reluctant to get as close as I would like. I often worry that my partner doesn't really love me or doesn't want to stay with me. I want to get very close to my partner, and this sometimes scares people away.
3 i am somewhat uncomfortable being close to others: i find it difficult to trust them completely, difficult to allow myself to depend on them. I am nervous when anyone gets too close, and often, love partners want me to be more intimate than i feel comfortable being
In 1987 psychologist cindy hazan and philip shaver reported the results of the statements above they called it the ‘love quiz’
56% of adults respondents had identified themselves as secure, 19% as anxious and 25% as avoidant
The perfect combination
Secure people tend to have the most secure relationships, and a relationship needs only ONE secure partner to get that stability. With a partner who is happy to give reassurance and isn't threatened by the idea of being needed, an anxious person can relax, and is often loyal and loving. With someone who doesn't take it personally when their partner wants time alone, avoidant people can worry less about being tied down- however, most of the compromises in the relationship will likely be made by the secure partner. The real problem comes when two insecure types get together. If relationships often get messy for you, learning to recognize attachment styles and understanding how they clash can give you a path through the conflict
But then again Here comes perhaps the most perlex question i can ask? What happens in adult hood when you experience the pain and turama of a heartbreak?
What particularly does that do to each individual and how do they cope?
Do some people perhaps just shut down! Absolutely not! One subconsciously gains the ability to cope with their losses how? Lets start with:
Sexual compulsion – Relationship with sex, attachment and sexual orientation
I know your wondering What the Fuck where did this just turn to but trust me, or dont but you may or may not want to hear this or perhaps your brain craves the knowledge to understand and you ask yourself why your life is working in the way it is; remembemer its all in you!
I believe the first coping skill for some may be Hypersexuallity which I will refer to later.
2. I believe a conduct Disorder DSM-IV-TR 314.9 Is primary consistent with feelings of Emotional shock from a previous ‘heartbreaking’ or traumatic event.
I will explain. I'm going to refer to the diagnostic features of conduct disorder which manifest itself as a repetitive and persistent pattern in which the basic rights of others or major age-appropriate societal norms or rules are violated. These behaviours fall into four main groupings” Criteria A1-A7 aggressive conduct that causes or threatens physical harm to other people or animals .
Or see criteria A8-A9 nonaggressive conduct that causes property loss or damage Or see A9 - A13, DECEITFULNESS OR THEFT
It is definite that promiscuous behavior is dangerous therefore someone engaging in Criteria a1-a7 w/o aggression and associated with parts or in hole with A8-9
Furthermore the prevalence of conduct disorder appears to have increased over the last decades and may be higher in urban than in rural settings.
Course.
Individuals with conduct disorder are at risk for later mood disorders, anxiety disorders, somatoform disorders, and substance related disorders.
Sexual addiction, also known as hypersexual disorder, is associated with serious psychosocial problems for many people.
Sexual addiction, which is also known as hypersexual disorder, has been associated with serious psychosocial problems for many people although it has not been recognized as a disorder that merits inclusion in the DSM (Quadland, 1985) – see Karila et al. (2014) for review. Originally, Carnes (1983)published a book titled Out of the shadows: Understanding sexual addiction, which has raised interest in the area and facilitated a discussion on the best way to define and diagnose the disorder. Despite different views about pathological characteristics of sexual addiction there is an agreement that this is a progressive relapsing condition which does not merely refer to a pathological diagnosis of sexual lifestyle that is socially deviant (Edger, 2010).
Sexual addiction involves compulsive behaviors such as constantly seeking new sexual partners, having frequent sexual encounters, engaging in compulsive masturbation and frequently using pornography. Despite efforts to reduce or stop excessive sexual behaviors individuals find it difficult to stop and they engage in risky sexual activities, pay for sexual services and resist behavioral changes to avert HIV risk (Carnes, 1991; Coleman-Kennedy & Pendley, 2002; Coleman, Raymond & McBean, 2003; Kalichman & Rompa, 1995). Sexual compulsivity has been associated with the number of unprotected vaginal sex acts with female sexual workers, lower self-efficacy for condom use, greater use of illicit drugs, and more financial need (Semple et al., 2010).
Cognitive and emotional symptoms include obsessive thoughts of sex, feelings of guilt about excessive sexual behavior, the desire to escape from or suppress unpleasant emotions, loneliness, boredom, low self-esteem, shame, secrecy regarding sexual behaviors, rationalization about the continuation of sexual behaviors, indifference toward a regular sexual partner, a preference for anonymous sex, a tendency to disconnect intimacy from sex, and an absence of control in many aspects of life (Carnes, 2000, 2001; Carnes & Schneider, 2000; Coleman et al., 2003; Coleman-Kennedy & Pendley, 2002). Finally, some studies find that sexual addiction is associated with or in response to dysphoric affects (Black, Kehrberg, Flumerfelt & Schlosser, 1997; Raymond, Coleman & Miner, 2003; Reid, 2007; Reid, Carpenter, Spackman & Willes, 2008; Reid & Carpenter, 2009) or stressful life events (Miner et al., 2007).
Attachment theory (Bowlby, 1979, 1982) argued that early attachment experiences affect personal and social life, professional relationships, dealing with stress, mental and physical health and cognitive development. According to recent developments in attachment theory, those who developed a safe attachment style which is not anxious or avoidant during infancy can form healthy relationships in adolescence and adulthood and handle life problems (Uytun, Oztop, Esel & Mdusunen, 2013). Individuals with secure attachment are expected to have low chances of becoming addicted to sex since they regulate and limit their sexual activity more than those with insecure attachment (Zapf, Greiner & Carroll, 2008). Furthermore, individuals who are addicted to sex are looking for sexual activity without the need for emotional relationships and they are more likely to be characterized by avoidant or anxious attachment (Gentzler & Kerns, 2004).
Gay men are diverse with respect to the sexual behaviors they both desire and enact (Moskowitz & Roloff, 2010; Sanderson, 1994). Moreover, gay men differ from other groups in their sexual behavior. Research shows that, on average, gay men have more partners, engage in more risky sexual behavior, and are more likely to seek sexual sensation than other groups, such as heterosexual men, women and lesbians (Bailey, Gaulin, Agyei & Gladue, 1994; Ekstrand, Stall, Paul, Osmond & Coates, 1999; Thompson, Yager & Martin, 1993). But among homosexual men there is variability in the propensity to engage in compulsive unprotected sex. Meyer and Dean (1995) have reported that about 6% of their 149 young New York City gay men (aged 18–24 years) engaged in very high risk behavior, defined as unprotected receptive anal intercourse with multiple partners. It appears that very high risk takers are qualitatively different from other risk takers: they reported more mental health problems, including more drug use and higher levels of internalized homophobia and AIDS-related traumatic stress response. Furthermore, there are moderators of sexual behavior among gay men such as being in monogamous relationships. Also sexual health and sexual health behaviors for example sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) were most influential over the enactment of sexual behavior or desires (Moskowitz & Roloff, 2010).
Few studies investigated sexual compulsivity among heterosexual and homosexual men. Furthermore, to the best of our knowledge, the relationships between compulsive sexual behavior and attachment and sexual preference or orientation have not been investigated before. We have therefore investigated sexual compulsivity and attachment style among populations of heterosexual and homosexual men and women. We hypothesized that secure attachment would be associated with lower rates of sex compulsion. Secondly, that homosexual men and women would show higher levels of sexual compulsivity than heterosexual men and women. Thirdly, we hypothesized that attachment style might mediate between sexual orientation and sexual compulsion.

(does a funky little dance) OFFICIAL! LEAN ON ME! TIMELINE! HERE WE GO
1986 - carly, the oldest of the ruro siblings is born and months later adopted by grace (a former broadway actress and manager of a small local cafe) and arthur ruro (a former guitarist who now owns a local music shop), a couple living in the tiny town of misky, arizona who can’t have bio kids but want a large family regardless
1987 - cameron, the second oldest of the ruro siblings, is born and months later adopted into the family
1989 - kayleigh and mary, fraternal twins, are born and adopted at two days old
general childhood information, spanning about 1990 thru 2000 - all of the girls receive musical education and are pretty much constantly surrounded by music, whether it be around the house thru their parents always having some kind of vinyl record on or helping out at their dad’s music shop
all the girls love it but kayleigh takes to it like a fish to water and starts learning violin at just age 4, and her mother begins giving her vocal training soon after
the girls discover alternative music and subculture through the magic of the fledgling internet, and carly, kayleigh, and cameron pretty much all become baby punks at like, 10-15 years old
2001 - kayleigh is invited to a music competition for Prodigious Youth at 12 years old. she is paired with Blue Scott, a shy, lanky kid from chicago who is also a massive music nerd like her. they win the competition and over the course of the week that they are working, they become best friends
over the course of the following years, they are constant pen pals, and see each other 2-3 times a year in person
2002 - when carly and cameron are teenagers, they decide to start a punk band, except in order to use all of their parents music equipment their parents FORCE them to include their younger sisters (kayleigh and mary). there is much griping and groaning about this
2003 - hey wait, that band is actually pretty good despite kayleigh and mary being only 15. they play their first show that isn’t at their local community centre without the knowledge of their parents and officially christen the band poison pop
carly graduates much to the chagrin of her parents, she gleefully declares she is not going to college
2005 - cameron, against her own better judgement, takes a gap year because the band starts recording their first album at home with their own equipment, and also starts playing more and more shows. at this point their parents know but are trusting cameron and carly to keep 16 year old kayleigh and mary in line and safe
blue introduces the girls to his friend ryka, a teenager a year younger than kayleigh and mary, who is shockingly good at guitar. she takes up kayleigh’s guitarist spot and leaves her free to do vocals only
they get lucky and happen to play a show at a large alt rock festival in phoenix, catching the attention of rising chicago-based label dissociation records who immediately offer them a record deal. they take it on the spot and dissociation flies them out to chicago a month later to sign the paperwork
2006 - they drop their first professionally recorded single, poison killed the prom queen. it shoots to the top of the charts, making poison pop one of the biggest bands in the nation overnight
they release their album of the same name that year as well, and with their continued success with the other singles, they cement themselves as the first truly household name in emo
2007 - they tour with another emo band called watch the skies, who quickly rocket in popularity, and immediately begin work on their next album. meanwhile, the girls are dealing with their first tastes of fame and they’re not dealing with it well <3
kayleigh and blue start fake dating to get the press off kayleigh’s ass about her love life. this..................is going to go exactly how you think it’s going to go. they move to LA together <3
2008 - batwings and crowbeaks drops to another massive success, and they continue touring. dissociation records, by this time, have taken almost complete control of their image and discography, so despite the record itself being quite good, it is nothing like what poison pop originally tried to make, and they’re starting to get fed up with it
not to mention dissociation has them on a near-constant work schedule, and they can’t take any significant breaks, abandoning their family and friends and almost any social lives they mightve had outside the music world
the only good thing to happen this year is mary getting married to her highschool sweetheart, mark. it is a nice wedding and probably the last time the girls will be happy together for a long time.
2009 - kayleigh and blue “break up” and stop talking to eachother completely. six months later, as they’re working on their third announced studio album bruises, the band (except kayleigh) decides to break up. upon hearing about this decision, kayleigh has a minor mental breakdown and cuts off contact with the entire band
bruises is never released, and the band is officially broken up by the end of the year, breaking out of their contract with dissociation through a legal loophole
2010 - kayleigh begins to find a life outside the band, and starts doing songwriting work with what remains of her connections in the industry, which she’s really good at and she really enjoys.
she finally fucking gets mental health help. jesus christ my gal. im so glad u are finally getting better
2011 - kayleigh makes up with pretty much everybody, including blue, but it’s a slow process. they spend their first christmas together as a family in 2 years
kayleigh and ryka discuss the fact that they still yearn for the stage, and an idea begins to form
2012 - ryka forms sparrow records, her own record label, and its first signee becomes half-dead, a two piece band consisting of kayleigh and her.
ryka moves to LA with her boyfriend rowan, and invites kayleigh to room with her. kayleigh, who knows blue is looking to move to LA and properly start his music career, invites him to room with them.
this is an idea that absolutely won’t backfire or dredge up any old feelings i’m sure
(just kidding. they’re dating by christmas <3)
2013 - half-dead releases its first album, at which point i have to admit i do not know anything abt half-dead’s release schedule fJSDKFHSDF.
what i do know is that they tour that year with long shot for speedy as their opening act and they instantly become band moms to them despite literally only being five and six years older than them at most. they just have that energy having been in the music industry for much, much longer than they have
2014 - blue releases his first album, wallflower, to shocking success!
2016 - half-dead is relatively successful, but kayleigh and ryka are not going to make the same mistakes this time round and they take a break in 2016. ryka n rowan move back to chicago, and kayleigh and blue buy their first house together!
2017 - the girls all get together on new year’s day and talk about poison pop. this discussion leads them to decide to finally bring back the band.
2018 - jetlag life, poison pop’s first album in over a decade, drops that summer, and they begin touring immediately afterwards with watch the skies!
2019 - blue proposes to kayleigh after 18 years of knowing each other and 7 years of dating. <3
2020 - blue and kayleigh FINALLY get married and nothing bad happens because this is my timeline
also poison pop, around the end of year, start dropping hints at another album.... 👀
#dakota originals#lean on me#WHAM BAM THANK YOU MAAM#IT ONLY TOOK ME NEARLY AN HOUR#honestly that's a record for poison pop timeline infodumps#there's so much that happened that i didnt even mention#carly has a girlfriend#cameron gets married at some point#mary has a baby#there's so much#SO MUCH#but i focused on kayleigh and the bands for this one#this thing is 1.3k words#it's full fic length#i go so fucking feral when i infodump lean on me man

@skittyratty
You were looking for films similar to the work of Fred Vogel and Lucifer Valentine, yes?
I've been researching extreme cinema for a few years now, and I've found a few helpful resources on the topic:
Horror News has a very long list of disturbing films that I used as a starting point. There are a lot of films here, which is why I still have much to research.
"Unboxed, Watched, and Reviewed" is a channel I subscribe to on Youtube (that honestly deserves way more subs than it has). Tanner Tooboch reviews extreme horror films, as well as notorious pornographic/fetish films (works often mentioned in discussions of "disturbing" films). Thank goodness he does, so I don't have to! (Admittedly, despite supporting and having an intellectual fascination with extreme material, I don't tend to find it too personally entertaining)
There are plenty of lists on imdb for extreme cinema and "disturbing" films, though one's mileage may vary, as I wouldn't place Cronenberg's Naked Lunch (1991) on the same level as, say, Sella Turcica (2010). Here are three lists I have bookmarked: [1] [2] [3]
That aside, I will list a few notable directors and films myself that I feel are closest to your criteria.
Anything by German director Marian Dora, as his work tends to be on the extreme side, such as in Meloncholie der Engel (2009).
Jörg Buttgereit is a trailblazer in the field of extreme cinema, beginning with Nekromantik (1987). His latest work is a short film titled Schweinchen (2020).
Gaspar Noé is a French director that frequently comes up in discussions of extreme cinema, mostly for Irreversible (2002) and I Stand Alone (1998).
Olaf Ittenbach's special effects experience has resulted in a slewcof notoriously gruesome films, such as Black Past (1989), The Burning Moon (1992), and Premutos: Der gefallene Engel (1997).
Andreas Schnaas is much like Olaf Ittenbach, though his works come off as a bit more goofy. Still, his gore effects are maniacally over the top, with kills you will only see in his work. He is perhaps best known for his Violent Shit trilogy, but has many more films under his belt. Violent Shit III should be watched with friends and plenty of shots.
Brian Paulinquickly carved a place for himself in extreme horror; his most notable films are Bone Sickness (2004), Fetus (2008), and Blood Pigs (2010).
Andrey Iskanov is a former medical student and photographer from Russia, most known for the long, grueling documentary Philosophy of a Knife (2008), which recreates many of the horrifying and inhumane experiments carried out on Russian and Chinese prisoners by Japan's infamous Unit 731 during World War II. His other work is similarly grotesque.
Eric Stanze began his career shooting on video. His most notable films are Ice from the Sun (1999) and Scrapbook (2000).
Ron Atkins has a few extreme titles to his name, including Mutilation Mile (2009), Schizophreniac: The Whore Mangler (1997), and Eat the Rich: The Cannibal Murders (2000).
Harmony Korine is not particularly well-liked as a director, mainly because he comes off as try-hard and pretentious. Still, he produced at least one decent unsettling film (Gummo), wrote the controversial and highly disturbing Kids (1995), and made the bizarre and bluntly-titled Trash Humpers (2009).
Otto Muehl is known for his fairly extreme short films, most notably Sodoma (1970), Stille Nacht (1969), and Wehrertüchtigung (1967). Günter Brus worked with Muehl, and his work is similarly notable.
Giuseppe Andrews makes...a lot of fucking weird experimental short films. Coffee Cake alone is enough for me to put him here. No clue as to gore content, but with titles like Cat Piss, Garbanzo Gas, Vagrant Womb, and Who Flung Poo?, there has to be some reason why Tanner Toobach thinks so highly of this man.
Individual films (I'll try to limit this to maybe 20. I have not seen every film I've encountered in my research (and a couple are not technically horror) , so I can really only list ones I either have seen, or have enough knowledge of to make a judgment call. I also feel compelled to feature the most notable/controversial films).
I want to make this very clear:
These films are considered "extreme cinema" for a reason. They contain material that is not for the squeamish, nor those who are easily upset. It is the filmmakers' intention to shock and disgust the viewer. These films are not made to entertain.
Pink Flamingos (1974)
Sweet Movie (1974)
Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom (1975)
Island of Death (1976)
SXXX-80 (1980)(short film)
Guinea Pig: Devil's Experiment (1985)
Begotten (1989)
The Baby of Mâcon (1993)
Aftermath (1994)
The Bride of Frank (1996)
Cutting Moments (1997)

subjective rating of Rodrigos I have seen
at least the ones I can recall, there have been a LOT
Sherrill Milnes (Giulini recording / 1980 Met): my first Rodrigo on recording so his voice is pretty much my gold standard (I listened to that Don Carlo so. much). Also very good on film. One of the great Verdi baritones with that noble and somewhat sad colour to his voice, a very heroic and brave Rodrigo. (It helps he also towers over most of the cast.) Gay? Yes but Could Be Gayer. Old Met staging was not particularly exceptional in that regard, it’s pretty basic. Very Dramatic Fall. A+
Giorgio Zancanaro - first I’ve seen on video, needs a rewatch because it’s been roughly 20 years. Very gay and touchy from what I remember (excellente) rating pending until rewatch
Thomas Hampson (Chatelet) - wonderfully gay. he loves his Carlo so much. very touchy. passionate. Not a natural Verdi voice but he makes it work. I can almost forgive that wig. A
Louis Quilico (Met 1984) - the only thing I remember about him is being incredibly bad and making me wish Milnes was in that (otherwise fantastic) performance. same staging as the 1980. F
Piero Cappuccilli (Salzburg, 1987) - as usual, a lesson in gorgeous Verdi singing. Gentle and loving with his Carlo (Carreras, they had excellent chemistry). Staging is sort of Business As Usual. A+
Simon Keenlyside (Met 2010 / ROH 2008) - same production with partially same cast. Very gay. Very Angery Revolutionary. Gets cocky with Filippo. Loves his tenors so much. Hand kiss with Alagna! The Hair Kiss(TM) with Villazón! Again not a classic Verdi voice but this role fits him like a glove. A+
Thomas Hampson (Salzburg 2013) - the only baritone who manages to out-gay Keenlyside. You really have to see this to believe just HOW fantastically gay it is. He’s pretty much always touching Jonas. So tender. So devoted. He’s Confused(TM) about Filippo’s clumsy flirting attempts. Dies so ridiculously sexily. There is so much blood. A+
Dwayne Croft (Amsterdam 2004) - a good singer but again, not exactly a Verdian. Staging is pretty gay and I LOVE the whole crypt setting. Exactly the kind of dramatic goth shit this opera needs. He doesn’t stand out too much to me but did a decent job. B
Dmitri Hvorostovsky (Vienna 2015) - the Vienna production is hopelessly boring and cheap looking with pretty much no Personenregie. Plus he was given a total cipher of a Carlo. He does what he can with that - of course, beautiful singing, sexy death scene, but not much chemistry with the tenor. Not even him and Furlanetto could save this staging. A
Dietrich Fisher-Dieskau (old movie) - in German, and generally not the ideal Verdi voice, but BOY is he an excellent Rodrigo still. So much passionate hugging and touching. Very gay for his Carlo. Excellent chemistry. Dramatic Bitch(TM) as the gods intended. A-
Ludovic Tézier (Paris 2017) - this production is Homophobic and also WTF. The Cage(TM) alone is worth about 50 sins. Poor Tézier sings like an angel and deserves so much better than this staging. Let Carlos hold him! We know from their Forzas how gay him and Jonas can get but they simply aren’t allowed to do ANYTHING here! There is some Filippo/Rodrigo flirting/touching. At least he has a pretty uniform for the second half. A+ singing. the director can fuck off
Ludovic Tézier (Torino 2013) - NOW we are talking! A normal staging with a lot of hugging and touching and being Boyfriends! Him and Carlo are seriously adorable in this. Some UST with Filippo (naturally). Beautiful, heartbreaking death scene where Carlo HOLDS HIM as he’s supposed to! A+
Boaz Daniel (Munich) - vocally okay (I liked him better as Gunther) but HOLY FUCK is he gay as hell. Him and Carlo get married. Carlo Quinto officiated. Plenty of sexual tension with Filippo. Like, they are definitely having a love triangle in this production. So much hugging and touching. Very dramatic death scene. Excellente. A- (even if vocally only B-ish)
Dmitri Hvorostovsky (Vienna 2002) - this is highlights only video, but Rodrigo has most of his scenes except the trio with Elisabetta and Eboli and the Restate. It’s very gay. There is so much leather. Have to take off some points for poor Dima having to wear a wig and a bad fake moustache. But he sings beautifully as always. A+ (how much I wish we had a full video of a good production with him...)
David Pershall (That One Open-Air Fanfiction) - this. this production is straight up fanfic. Filippo is so clearly and blatantly gay for Rodrigo, it’s marvelous. Rodrigo, however, loves his tenor deeply. Very touchy and Dramatic. Excellent voice, beautiful young man who absolutely looks the part, heartbreaking death scene. Someone cast this singer as Billy Budd stat. A+
Paul Kong (Seoul) - another beautiful young Rodrigo with a surprisingly BIG voice! and very gay with his Carlo. Super touchy and gentle. Everything you can wish for except blood. A+
Tassis Christoyannis (Strasbourg) - the production is an absolute WTF monstrosity and completely OOC. Poor Rodrigo. He would NEVER do any of that. And the singer is good and deserves a better staging. Very gay (also with Filippo) but how much of it is an act? B+
Massimo Cavalletti (Florence 2017) - another Rodrigo whose gayness level is off the charts. Also beautiful and noble. There is a shirtless scene (just WHAT was he doing near Filippo’s room? oh boy Filippo is also a gay mess here). Vocally pretty nice. A-
I think that’s all the memorable ones for now! I need more Don Carlo productions.

Dances– The Blackwoods | A Personal Essay (Written pre-parental death).
It was a dance.
It always was, no matter what. No, there was never any music. No stage. No choreography. But conversations with my mother were always an intricate samba on a tightrope.
It could begin at any moment, about anything. Simple small talk about where I went for brunch yesterday morning could turn into a bitchfest about my weight– as if being 110 was something to be ashamed of. The mere presence of an unopened, monthly bank statement could turn into a lecture about financial responsibility– as if she wasn’t surrounded by new, shiny things and maxed out AMEX cards. And, far more recently, a quick, innocent glance at the alcohol cabinet would have me sat down with some professional life coach while she watched, a vodkatini in hand.
Eliza Blackwood (born Eliza Rheider in 1971) was a bitch. An absolute bitch. A wretched, spoiled, high-strung, narcissistic, classist, borderline-anorexic, Valium-addicted, Shalimar-drenched, Kris Jenner-wannabe bitch. She was lucky she came from money, because if she wasn’t, I don’t think she’d be alive right now. I mean, I’m lucky, too, but I’m grateful for what I have.
Her parents were corporate assholes– her dad worked for Goldman Sachs, and his wife was a vapid, shrill, useless little brat not unlike her daughter. And, of course, that unloveable little bitch went and married someone who could satisfy her financial needs and not embarrass the family name– Andrew Blackwood, a New York politician from a family of Wall Street types (Some of whom also worked at Goldman Sachs, which is how the two met). On paper, they were a match made in heaven. A wealthy politician and his obnoxious jetsetter wife.
But, fortunately for me, even though I hadn’t been born quite yet, Andrew was a good, caring man. While Eliza was (and still is) ruthless, selfish and absolutely disgustingly horrible, Andrew had a heart. He cared about people. And things. Which was why he went into politics. He wanted to make a change. While his family was a bunch of wealthy Republicans, he was entirely Democratic, a fact that nearly alienated from them entirely (if only it had actually managed to keep his family out of my life) which is why I’m still in awe that he wound up with a pathetic Paris Hilton knockoff. A politician with a heart of gold wound up with a blue blood twat who measures her love in karats.
But back to her dances.
I’m not entirely sure where they come from. I mean, no matter how much you analyze someone and their family and upbringing and everything, you can’t pin point their personality traits and their behaviors. That said, I think I have a fair amount of clues as to where Eliza’s horrid personality came from.
While her relationship with her mother is mostly concealed to me, their lifestyle was no secret. Eliza always went on about how well she lived as a kid, how luxurious her house was, how high the thread count in the sheets of her crib was, and how she washed her face with caviar or something. But how she got along with her mother was never fully described. I’ve seen hints here and there– a glare across a table at a gala or whispers on the phone. But I don’t know too much. As far as I know, Eliza’s mother– Mrs. Karen Rheider– didn’t even bother to raise any of her three children. I wouldn’t have been surprised had they all been raised by a nanny while Karen went went on living as a trophy wife. But I assume that the two of them, when they did interact, got along the same way Eliza and I do– and that would make it safe to assume Eliza picked up her bitchy words, malicious intentions and passive-aggressive, condescending demeanor from her mother. The family bitchiness is hereditary.
Passive-aggressiveness is definitely a running trait in my family. I see it to an extent on my dad’s side– his brothers and him bicker endlessly, and they seem to show some slight disapproval for his opposing political stance, as if world views are trivial dinner conversation. But it pales in comparison to the Rheider family’s guilt. Aside from me, and my mother, I see it in the rest of the family.
My aunt Jodi, mother of two, is another disgusting person. Like Jenny McCarthy, she refused to vaccinate her kids because she believed it would make them autistic. Her son, Connor, has caught the flu every single year since he was six. The three (including her daughter Jenna) currently reside together at a nudist resort, where the kids were homeschooled… because they lack their immunizations. But that’s kind of besides the point– any time Jodi decides to dress up and sneak out into the world of normalcy, she misses no opportunity to make slick comments that everyone else in the family is living incorrectly. Thankfully, everyone else has mastered the art of clapback.
Eliza’s brother, Luke, and his wife, Charli (a full 16 years younger than him) are an obnoxiously pretentious couple who are all too proud of their FormDecor relationship and all too ashamed of everyone else’s. Luke has a son, Bastien, who he had with his first wife, that’s only 6 years younger than Charli. However, Bastien’s one of the few people on my mother’s side of the family that I actually enjoy. We share similar morals, and gratefulness for what we’ve been given, and spend every single family function together ripping the family apart. It’s a shame they never hear us.
Even the family elders have the same disapproving, condescending disdain for everything that my mom displays. But they’re far too silent around me to reveal anything noteworthy. The most words I’ve ever heard from my great grandmother Dorothy Cross (my mother’s mother’s mother), was scolding Jodi for her nudist colony being racially integrated, so it’s safe to say not much good was going to come from that generation. Fortunately, most of them are dead– Dorothy passed in 2011 (though her husband is still living off of a diamond-encrusted life support machine), and Eliza’s father’s parent’s are both long gone. Three out of Andrew’s four parents are deceased, his mother’s mother Clarissa Pullock (or something like that) is still alive, though I’ve never met her and probably never will– our first interaction will probably be at her funeral where I’m forced to pretend to mourn.
While Eliza’s family is dominated by a vile matriarchy, Andrew’s family has been dominated by powerful men with miniature dicks who made the Blackwood name known very much for investment banking until bank holding companies began to reign supreme, after which the family figured they would be better off in electoral politics. Andrew’s grandfather, Adam Blackwood, worked up a networth of slightly over $1 billion, and while his successors haven’t exactly been slacking, I don’t think any of them are ever going to do as well as him (but at the end of the day, if Andrew decided to have a bonfire using $100 bills as kindling, we’d recover before the fire even went out). Adam had two sons– Matthew and Bernard, and both received their jobs at Wall Street after him in a clear sign of nepotism. Bernard married a real estate agent named Elaine or Elle or something like that and had a million kids– most of which were boys. I don’t know much about them, and I don’t really care to. Matthew married some Janet something and had four kids– Paul (1965), Michael (1967), Andrew (1969), and Matthew Jr. (stillborn in 1970).
Unfortunately for this generation of men, who, unsurprisingly, continued the trend of nepotism and began work at the same place as their ancestors (save for Andrew who stayed in school, exploring his interests), none of them were able to produce any boys to continue the line. Paul was the first to reproduce– shooting out Kim and Lisa in 1987 and 1989, and as soon as the Kardashian sisters came around, they tried their hardest to be them but soon settled with just being their very close friends (and it’s safe to say I can’t stand any of them). Michael had Heather in 1990, and somehow, amidst a family of putrid, selfish monsters, she wound up a tasteful and snarky angel of hope. Like Bastien, we spend our family events together, an unholy trio of stylish black sheep.
And then finally, February 5, 1995, I came around. Eliza and Andrew had been married for about three years, and finally had me. Adam was still alive at the time and was praying for a great grandson– only to be disappointed for the fourth time. Almost as a sign of flippancy towards him, they named me Sam (well, Samantha, but I’ve grown accustomed to Sam and refuse to be called by my full first name unless I’m being charged with something). My mother made my middle name Elizabeth– because she hoped that I would follow in her footsteps. She once said naming me after her was “the biggest mistake” she ever made, which I don’t think is entirely unfair because taking after her is the last thing I ever want to do. And I’ve spent the last twenty-one years learning all of this.
People always say that blood is thicker than water, or whatever. That we’re supposed to stick with our families (over friends, or, well, anything). There’s been some mindset that family comes before all, that you honor your last name above anything and everything. I don’t believe that for one second. As if who happened to bang should determine everything about you. I despise almost all of that. And I won’t claim any of the ones that I don’t like for one second. I’ll take a tango any day. Fuck blood. And fuck the Blackwoods.
