In the 1950’s, this is how you declared your love for all things modern! This is a set of Homer Laughlin dinner plates in the Lotus Hai pattern that were made in their Newell, West Virginia pottery plant in 1954. Part of HL’s very contemporary dish shape series known as Rhythm, this rimless design was a fresh take on more traditional dishware shapes of the 1930s and 1940s. In addition to its flat shape, it featured a big, bold botanical sprig in the center and a neutral, gender-friendly color palette that could compliment the aesthetic of a small, urban bachelor pad just as easily as match the interior design of a large family house in the country. Popular Sherwin-Williams wall paint colors in 1954 (see last photo) included three shades found here in these plates - Glenwood Gray, Canterbury Gray and Chartreuse - illustrating what a cohesive look you could have achieve in your kitchen by following the most modern trends of the year. It’s so fun to see that all of these colors, so popular back then, are still so popular nowadays too. Once a trendsetter always a trendsetter:) Find this set of six in the shop!
