I doubt anyone care about where I was when I started and finished The Umbrella Academy but it matters to me which is why I’m posting this.
My Love Letter To TUA & 14 Year Old Me
On 30th July 2020, I watched the first season of TUA. I saw promotions for the second season and was bored so started it. I was 14 years old and it was the summer holidays so I was out of school, sitting with my Mum trying to find something to watch. We were both immediately hooked. Like, hooked hooked. We finished the whole season in a day and the second season the following day. We watched in the living room which was rubbed down and full of my Mum’s belongings after some hard to explain family issues. But we wasn’t living comfortably and I had just started having suicidal thought.
Umbrella Academy became one of the few things at the time to shake me out of a suicidal meltdown I’d have in my bedroom alone. It had immediately became my favourite series and Right Back Where We Started From become by far my second favourite song. They were powerful things that frequently saved me mentally. I had never felt as close to anything else before.
I also got to meet Robert Sheenan in May 2022 at MCM, our conversation was extremely brief but I think he understood how much the show meant to me and a lot of the other people there. And guess what? My soulmate was in line behind me, we didn’t notice each other and properly meet until nearly 2 years later in the same place.
On 22nd June 2022, I started the 3rd season. I was 16 years old, it was once again the summer holidays but I had work. I was 4 hours late to work that day because I decided to start the new season. I watched 2 and half episodes and finished it while on holiday at Centre Parcs with my Dad (last time I saw him) that following weekend.
I had just gotten out of hospital a week before it came out after trying to end my life. Even though I was immediately back to work, I was heavily supervised to prevent me trying to end my life again.
On 9th August 2024, I started the 4th season. I was late to it because I was out the day before with my two partners. I’m 18 years old now and have left home, don’t see much of my parents or sister, live with my two partners and am in my first throuple. I’m also happy for the first time in years. I have my own space to myself now, have grown and mature a lot since 2022. I’ve been homeless, job less and heartbroken since then. In the last few months, it all changed for me. I found people who actually love me and I haven’t had a suicidal thought in almost 1 year now. I finished the final season with my two lovers who also love TUA.
Even if I didn’t love this season as much as the first, it will always remain deep in my heart. I still feel so close to this show, like it’s a friend or something or even a love. I didn’t have anyone else back in 2020 so the feeling was foreign and exciting, fortunately I feel that for real people also now.
I have finally found myself and become happy. It makes me look at 14 year old me, the one who was miserable and constantly made mistakes, and I love her. And I sympathise with her. I think about how lonely she must of been, to rely so much on a TV show to make her not want to kill herself. I wish she had my friends and family but at least she had TUA. Possibly my broken timeline was how much I used to to feel like I needed to be someone smarter, like Five.
Right after my 18th birthday, I got a tattoo to represent my love and gratitude for the show.
I love you TUA, thanks for everything

tbh I’m relatively new to francophone scholarship on the French Revolution and I unfortunately cannot read French-- but just from skimming the autotranslations of this article by Pascale Pellerin, Algeria writer Kateb Yacine’s 1984 play, Bourgeois sans-culotte ou le specter du parc Monceau, presents as possibly one of the most compelling dramaturgical interpretations of the French terror and Maximillien Robespierre’s historical memory imo and should honestly be considered a primary example of his radical influences. Yacine unfortunately died while revising the manuscript, so it was never published in the form he intended, but there have been partial translations online, and a clip from the posthumous 1988 Paris performance is on youtube as well.
The play on Robespierre was commissioned by and performed mostly in Arras, aka Robespierre’s hometown, but it would be remiss to shrug Yacine’s interpretation of the French Revolution as a provincial hagiography or redundant to previous French leftist nationalist discourses. Bourgeois sans-culotte is thoroughly a transnational story about revolutionary violence and freedom, and a critical recuperation of Robespierre’s legacy from the perspective of France’s former colonies. For Yacine especially, it was important to highlight the parallels in historiographic receptions of the “reign of terror” to colonial propaganda of the Algerian Revolution and other anticolonial guerilla struggles in Haiti, Vietnam, and Algeria
Posting my favorite sections from Pellerin’s analysis, translations provided by google lmfao; highlights & underline mine--
Kateb Yacine's piece constitutes a circular vision of History of which Robespierre would be the centre. Whether one is in Indochina, in France, in Algeria, in the 18th century or during the Algerian war, the image of Robespierre speaks of the violence of History and its justification in the face of the violence of the oppressor, that of monarchical power, that of colonialism, that of Nazism. The representations of the guillotine, the Terror and Robespierre constitute a major ideological challenge for Kateb Yacine and take on a particular meaning depending on the place and the space.” (p4).
Note: Yacine’s conspicuous influences from Marx and direct homage to the opening line, “a spectre is haunting Europe—the spectre of communism," from The Communist Manifesto.
Note: Yacine’s decision to weave his autographical self and experiences in colonial Algeria into re-telling the French Revolution.
Note: Yacine’s portrayal of the guillotine as indeed a “ambivalent tool”-- not as a post-Thermidorian carcicature of popular violence against the bourgeoise-- but due to its later mobilization by the French colonial government in the execution of over 2300 Algerian revolutionaries 1956-63.
Note: Yacine’s mediations on Francophone historiography and moralization of the “Reign of Terror”; direct resonances for Algerian revolutionaries on the role of terrorism in struggles for national indepedence from French colonialism
Note: Yacine’s explicit affirmation of Robespierre as the original and legitimate symbol of an enlightened French republic-yet-to-come, in spite of the revolution’s failure to manifest it.
Note: Robespierre attempting to reach Karl Marx prior to his confrontation with de Gaulle, the latter of whom mocks Robespierre as “[having] nothing of a man of action.” Empower by his meeting with Marx, Robespierre responds to this attempted demasculation [perhaps paralleling popular portrayals of his feud with Danton?] with, “And you, the great de Gaulle, you have subdued the generals, but you have not seen Second Lieutenant Le Pen, who is threatening to take power” (Yacine in Pellerin, pp27).
#french revolution#maximilien robespierre#robespierre#kateb yacine#Robespierre the Sans-Culotte or the Ghost of Parc Monceau#there is more but this is some of the sections I thought would be interesting to put together + my own brief notes#archives#edited for clarity's sake#frev

Visited: October 20th, 2023- October 23rd, 2023
Next up is one of my favorite places, Barcelona! Barca is a nickname given to the city. The city was founded by the Romans and they set up a colony called Barcino at the end of the 1st century BC. The city has a gothic quarter that displays the enjoyment of the city from the 13th to 15th centuries. Although during the 15th-18th centuries, Barca entered a period of decline and this ended in 1714 thankfully. The 20th century brought widespread urban renewal and this Brough more modern buildings. This city felt big yet still felt like a community. There is a lot of diversity in areas and in people. While there we visited La Sagrda Família, Casa Batlló and the parc Guell. La Sagrda Família was by far my favorite place I visited. The architecture had so much detail and many scenes representing Jesus in such a beautiful light. The windows with the light streaming in made the place feel unreal and hard to explain in words. We also got to tour a tower and could see all of Barcelona from above. The art of Antoni Gaudí was also cool to see and in specific the house was based on marine life. I enjoyed that as I am in a major relating to that. He also has quite the type of style that is unique in representation. The park also had representation of his work and the tile on the benches was beautiful. This city made me consider living there sometime in my lifetime. The people were friendly and the life of the city was unmatchable. The food was delicious and all the events from shows, markets, landmarks, and parks provided a lot of activities to do. I am excited to return back for Christmas with my mom and see all the lights. All the pictures taken were taken by me or Laura Josler and they were taken from October 20th, 2023 to October 23rd, 2023.

Canadian GP promoter doubts race could move dates to streamline F1 calendar | RaceFans Round-up
In the round-up: Formula 1’s hopes of moving the Canadian Grand Prix on its schedule face challenges due to the region’s weather. In brief Canadian GP unlikely to change date in future F1 is keen to change the dates of some races on future calendars in order to cut travel between rounds and therefore reduce emissions. Moving the Canadian Grand Prix, which takes place this weekend, closer to the the Miami Grand Prix in May would allow F1 to make fewer transatlantic crossings. However the Canadian GP’s CEO Francois Dumontier has said the options to move their round of the world championship are limited by the Montreal climate. “One can hardly imagine a presentation [of the race] before the beginning of June,” he told La Presse. He also ruled out an autumn date in the future as “we’d risk disrupting the activities of Parc Jean-Drapeau; in addition, in the fall, we could also find ourselves in conflict with congresses.” Dumontier admitted “it is mainly the weather [that is] the major sticking point in our talks” with F1 about moving the race to a different time of the year. Merhi keeps Formula E seat for Portland Recent Formula E debutant Roberto Merhi will remain with Mahindra for the Portland EPrix later this month. The former F1 driver was called up to replace Oliver Rowland for the Jakarta EPrix round at the start of June, and finished 18th and 17th in the weekend’s two races. No reason was given for Rowland’s sudden split. Merhi was chosen as a last-minute replacement over Mahindra’s reserve driver Jehan Daruvala having driven in FE’s rookie test in Berlin for the team. “I am very happy to be back in Portland with Mahindra,” said Merhi. “After Jakarta, I now have more experience in the car, which will help me a lot and I will be able to keep improving from where we left off. “I think the fact that is a new circuit to everyone will be beneficial as everyone will start with the same experience level on the track. I have been working hard with my engineers and the team to learn to adjust my driving style to the unique FE car.” Advert | Become a RaceFans supporter and go ad-free Happy birthday! Happy birthday to David A, Mateuss, Vikas and Eoin Harrington! On this day in motorsport via RaceFans - Independent Motorsport Coverage https://www.racefans.net/

The Trade Palace, the legendary trunk of industrial tanners heading to #indies ? This monumental 12000 m² building in the heart of Rennes city center is an illustration of this. Entrusted to the architects Jean-Baptiste Martenot and Emmanuel Le Ray, this lighthouse-totem (of the Indies?) is above all the political work of mayor and senator Edgar Le Bastard (1871-1892), at a time when the leather industry and very prosperous master tanners in India experienced a golden age in #rennes . Having become an important industrialist in the city in this sector, Edgar Le Bastard was president of the Chamber of Commerce of Rennes. During his tenure, he worked extensively on the development of education in the city, including the university. In addition, Orientalism had a strong impact on the heritage of the city of Rennes during his term of office, in particular the old racecourse in the Parc des Gayeulles. A well-known counter in the leather trade, #pondichery , a French possession which joined the Indian Union in 1954, still maintains links with Rennes, on an academic level. The University of Rennes is developing cooperation with the University of Pondicherry. The Rennes university press published an essay by Kevin Le Doudic: “The French in Pondicherry in the 18th century: a society redrawn by its material culture“. Possibly the most ‘Halloweeny’ thing to do in Paris is visit the Catacombs. It’s a bit frightening when you first enter the dark interconnecting subterranean tunnels stacked with bones of between six to seven million former Parisians. But these underground spaces date back to the Gallo-Roman period, where the inhabitants of Lutetia quarried the limestone for their buildings. In later years this stone would build much of the city. The mining utilised a technique of extracting horizontally along the vein, a process which left a honeycomb of tunnels as Paris grew. These winding passageways extend beneath the buildings and streets of the Left Bank, between Odeon and the Parc Montsouris, and below some neighbourhoods of the Right Bank, such as Belleville, Montmartre and Ménilmontant. There's an extensive maze below Paris. Even though only a small section of the tunnels are used as an ossuary, the entire network is referred to by Parisians as ‘the Catacombes de Paris’. By the 18th century the many cemeteries within the city limits had become filled to overflowing, resulting in unsanitary, unpleasant living conditions. In around 1786 these cemeteries needed to be emptied for reasons of public safety and public health. The remains of these millions of people needed a new resting place. The former limestone mines just outside of Paris (at the time) became a municipal ossuary referred to as the ‘catacombs’. The tunnels were actually blessed in religious cemetery to receive the dead. You want to avoid the possibility of poltergeists in the city. Due to their old age a large portion of the quarries are not part of the official Denfert-Rochereau Catacombs. They have been deemed unsafe by Parisian officials. Nevertheless, the size and length of the tunnels make it difficult to keep secret societies, thieves, artists, and the ‘cataphiles' from entering the dangerous network. . . . #paris #catacombesdeparis #skulls #parisjetaime #parislife #parisart #parismonamour #parismaville #parislove #pariscity #villedeparis #iloveparis #parisfind (at Catacombes De Paris, Place Denfert-Rochereau, 75014 Paris) https://www.instagram.com/p/CVs3UFstFpg/?utm_medium=tumblr

Hiii I hope ur doing well ! 🥰 can I ask for prompt 21 with Heejin? Thank you!! Have an amazing day <3
Heejin x Reader
Prompt n°21 : Artist
“Let me paint you in all those places you want to visit ?”
France, Lyon
Ah Paris ! That's what most people would say while visiting France for the first time but not you.
When offered the opportunity to go to France for a week you didn't wanted to be one of the typical tourist, so you decided to go to the newly considered second best city in the world, Lyon.
To be honest you didn't ever heard about Lyon before this magazine talked about it. Everybody just rather talk about Paris, the city of love. You learned that Lyon was for a long time a more important city then Paris, the fact that people only knew about Paris nowadays was unfair.
You were decided to change that,
You had just arrived in the city and even though you were tired, you wanted to make the most of your time here. You settled to go to the hotel you were staying in before going for a walk around town.
Fast enough you got to the starting point of your visit, The Bellecour square with its famous statue representing King Louis XIV on his horse. He actually only came to Lyon once and he decided to own this square just because he felt like it, ‘what a King’ you thought when you learned the story behind this place.
No wonder he got beheaded.
However it was only the start of your visit, you went up on the Republic’s street, a well known street, appreciated for her numerous clothing’s stores. Contrary to those people looking for new clothes to spend money on, you were looking for something else.
Yet you had a hard time finding it, the street you were looking for, seemed not to be anywhere. Your foreigner self didn’t wanted to ask someone so you settled on looking where it was once you’ll get back at the hotel and go there only the day after. Not finding this street made you stop your tour, prefering to go rest for the next day to come, you had a lot to see and no time to waist.
As soon as you woke up the next day, you got breakfast and went straight for the hidden street. This time you had a map and were ready to see the famous "Passage de l'Argue". The street wasn't actually that famous, most people didn't really knew about its history but you had the chance to have had a online visit on the plane.
The documentary wasn't that good pretty boring actually but when they talked about this street, they explained how it had been first mentioned on a map of the 18th century and had never completly disappeared even when people destroyed it. The people at the time seemed to be attached to this street, they rebuild it over and over again until it became what it was today, a street full of luxurious shops and art galleries.
That's what brought you here in the first place, not shops but art. Of course there were museums in Lyon but as much as you loved them, they were often full of people and regulated with a limited time.
Here you had all the time in the world and not a single soul around because of the bad weather. Well that's what you thought until someone grabbed forcefully one of the painting you were looking at, off the wall where it was exhibited.
You brows furrowed, the girl in question didn't seemed to work in the gallery and you were wondering if she had the right to do that.
"Excuse me ? I don't think you're allowed to put it down."
When you pat the stranger's shoulder, she looked back at you angrily.
"I'm not stealing it if that's what you think I'm doing."
You took sometimes to observe her before answering, seeing how she had gloves over her hands and paint on her white shirt. For sure she was an artist but why would an artist and maybe the one who did the painting in the first would want to get it back ?
"And what exactly are you doing then ?"
She proceeded to put the painting in a tote bag before facing you completely and answering.
"Getting back what was stolen from me."
So she did made the painting, you thought.
"Isn't it good that you're painting is in an art gallery though ?"
The way she rolled her eyes and sighed showed you how she was annoyed to have to explain anything to a stranger but she chose to do it anyway. She probably didn't wanted you to call the police or tell anybody else.
She took a glance over her shoulder before looking at you again.
"Can we like get out of here before I'll tell you ?"
You probably shouldn't have agreed but for some reasons, that girl looked like an honest person and you couldn't help but trust her.
“Lead the way, stranger.”
“Heejin.”
“Then lead the way, Heejin.”
As said, she led you towards a small bench in a small park nearby. There you two sat and she was finally able to explain you her terrible story. She told you about how she was due to give the gallery two paintings a week for a year and how lately she couldn’t beecause she was facing a uninspired time right now. She wasn’t able to paint so they took paintings that she didn’t anted to expose anyway.
Listening to Heejin, you knew you had to do something, you had to help her.
“Did you get back all the paintings they stole ?”
Heejin thought for a moment before noding.
“But they’ll take them back, won’t they ?”
“Then help me find inspiration again before they do.”
You were stunned, someone you barely knew wanted you to help her in the most abstract way ever existing.”
“How do I do that ?”
“Let me paint you in all those places you want to visit ?”
You were hesitating but what were you risking anyway, it was a win-win situation, she’ll get her paintings and you’ll have a private guide of the city.
That’s how Heejin and you started to spend all your days together and soon enough it wasn’t just a win-win situation anymore that brought you to see her but rather a need.
She brought you to the nicest places of Lyon, you had visited more historical places than ever before and enjoyed every seconds of it.
Today was your last day together, since your flight was planned for tomorrow. Heejin gave you rendez-vous at a parc near what french people call ‘Croix-Rousse’ which was the name of the montaigne. Heejin was waiting for you on the bench, facing the horizon.
“Hey, did you wait for me long ?”
She turned her head to you, smiling.
“Toute ma vie...”
You frown, Heejin rarely talked french, mostly because she knew you couldn’t understand it.
“What does it mean ?”
“It means that don’t want to let you go.”
“Heejin, we already talked about this....”
You did talked about it a few days before but Heejin didn’t tell you how much it was breaking her heart to have to let you go. She grew attached to you, you spent all your time together of course she did. But most importantly you gave her back inspiration when nothing could.
It was hard for her to let you go and hard for you to leave.
That night after the memorable afternoon Heejin gave you, she brought you back to your hotel and runaway before you could say goodbye.
You almost didn’t took your plane the day after feeling too sad, you wished you had had proper goodbyes before parting away but she decided to let you go on your own.
Back home, your life had became pointless, no one was there to tell you about that painter who ate paint or about that curious drawing of a girl spiting flowers. You were feeling worst than ever, Heejin wasn’t responding at any of your texts and you believed it was because she found someone else after two months it was probable.
A knock on the door force you to leave the couch that became your bed since you returned. Opening the door, you got blinded by the light that had left your room since a long time and it took you some time before recognizing who was at the door.
“I must be dreaming..”
Heejin chuckled before putting in a tight hug.
“I knew you dream of me.”
Realization hit you like a truck.
“Ho..HOW ?! Why are you here ?”
“My contract with the gallery expired two weeks ago, I had to quarantine for a week but here I am now. Thought you could get rid of me ? I don’t think so.”
Hey here is the request, hope you’ll like it. Thanks for taking this prompt by the way, did you think it would be like that ? Did you thought about something else ? Tell me while giving me feedback. -Ael

Luxury Guide to the Champagne Wine Region
International travel may still be (temporarily) on hold, but that’s not stopping us from dreaming up our next wine-soaked trip abroad. Our love of great wine is no secret – which means that France will most definitely be one of the places we hit up first. What better place to kick off international adventures than a trip to Champagne?
Overview
Champagne is a sparkling wine producing region located just 90 miles east of Paris. The region is broken down into five major wine-producing zones: Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne, Côte de Sézanne, Côte des Blancs, and Aube. Champagne’s two major cities are Reims and Epernay. Reims is larger, busier, and a bit more on the lavish side, whereas, Epernay errs on the sleepier, more quaint side of things.
Starting Point
Most Champagne getaways begin with a touchdown in Paris, and really, what’s not to love about that? Before jetting off to wine country, grab a quick 40-minute cab into the city and stop somewhere for a lavish lunch – we can confirm that there’s really nothing better after an overnight flight. Pop by Le Saint-Sébastien for contemporary French cuisine with a twist, or hit Le Bon Georges for a traditional French bistro lunch. Both restaurants boast top-notch wine lists, so kicking off your trip with something delicious has never been easier.
How to Get There
There are numerous ways to access Champagne from Paris. Although most tend to rent a car (approx. two hours) or hit the high-speed TGV train (approx. 45 minutes from Paris to Reims), why not go all out and catch the view from above?
Helicoptering from Paris to Champagne isn’t actually as unattainable as it sounds. Companies like AB Corporate Aviation offer flights equipped with guided tour guides and gourmet meals, and while we wouldn’t recommend shelling out this much for recurring trips to the region, seeing Paris from above is most definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We can’t think of a better way to kick off a wine-soaked getaway – with a glass of bubbles in hand, of course.
Where to Stay
Royal Champagne Hotel & Spa
Nothing cures the overnight flight blues like checking into a high-end spa in the heart of wine country. Located in Champillon, this epic hotel was recently named the number one resort in Europe by Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards, and it’s no surprise why. This luxury boutique hotel is located on a UNESCO World Heritage site and is surrounded by lavish wineries, plush greenscapes, and rolling vineyards as far as the eye can see. Expect Champagne concierge, meals prepared by Michelin-starred chefs, and gourmet apéros laden with bubbles and local products – and at just two years old, all rooms, amenities, and common areas are brand-spankin’ new.
Where to Eat
Le Parc (at Domaine Les Crayeres)
Located in the heart of Reims, this 2-Michelin Starred restaurant is an absolute no-brainer for those looking to dive into French haute cuisine. Located inside the Domaine Les Crayeres, this elegant hotspot meshes sophisticated hospitality and unmatchable French joie de vivre under one charming (and quite expensive) roof. In warmer weather months, be sure to grab an outdoor table in the lush garden, and be advised that formal dress code is strictly enforced (no shorts, sports attire, or sandals are permitted).
Le Foch
Known for their fish-heavy carte, this Michelin-starred gem is an absolute must for seafood lovers. Expect meticulously crafted dishes laden with lobster, fresh seafood, and the restaurant’s signature potato confit, as well as classic French staples like escargots and foie gras – and don’t forget to save some space for the joint’s handmade macarons. 5-course menu or a-la-carte options available.
Where to Taste
No car? No problem. Tasting wine without the worries of having to drive has never been easier, thanks to the numerous tasting rooms available by foot in Reims. Krug, Louis Roederer, and Maison Mumm are all within walking distance of one another and are equally accessible for those arriving by train to Reims. Note: Most tasting rooms require advanced reservations and have multiple options for elevated experiences, featuring custom pairings, private tours, and if you’re lucky, perhaps a backvintage pour or two.
Don’t Miss
Cathédrale Notre Dame
No trip to Champagne would be complete without a stop at Reims’ famed Gothic Cathedral. This prestigious church dates back to 1211, was the place of coronation for many of France’s kings, and survived numerous World Wars. (The church has now been deemed a UNESCO World Heritage Site). The cathedral’s 12-petaled rose windows, epic organ, and one-of-a-kind astronomical clock (built 200 years after the church’s initial construction) promise to take your breath away.
Palais du Tau
Sigh – another UNESCO World Heritage Site. This sophisticated former residence is best known for housing a number of French nobility, including the archbishop of Reims. Located just next to the Cathédrale, the Palais du Tau now holds its own small collection of religious objects, tapestries, and sculptures. Pop in for your daily dose of history (and then pop some bubbles for a post-museum lunch at one of the local cafés next door).
Musée de Beaux Arts
And if visits to the Cathédrale / Palais du Tau did not fully satisfy your culture craving, hit the Musée de Beaux Arts. This 18th-century museum’s permanent collections feature paintings, sculptures, and furniture from the 16th to 20th Century, with an emphasis on religious-focused art and Impressionist, works from the Renaissance through the 1900s. As much as we love Renoir, we’d make this stop as quick as possible (and save your hours for sipping Champagne in the city’s many quaint squares!) Well, you’ll never guess what? Tomorrow I turn 50! Yes, fifty years old. 🥳
We’re in the process of scanning all our old photos right now. So I managed to find a few pics of some of my other milestone birthdays along the way to fifty.
My actual ‘Birth’day - the day I was born.
I think I might have been about one here in the bath!
Ten years old (I still remember that pinafore dress!)
My 18th Birthday (check out that hair!)
My 21st Birthday (with my then boyfriend, now husband of 26 years 😍)
8. My 30th Birthday (At Center Parcs - my hair was still dark!)
9 & 10 My 40th Birthday (At Disney World, Florida)
So what for my 50th?
Clearly we’re all in lock-down in the UK currently, so I can’t go anywhere. Instead (until we’re allowed to travel again and I have enough energy for a long haul trip.) we’re bringing one of my favourite places to me...
For the next two days (to pace things out a little!) all things New York City will be coming to Chez McNamara! 🇺🇸🗽
A NYC themed 50th Birthday? I can’t wait 🥰
