Helena Doyle Harrington 1890s - 1900s

Babies first Lookbook!😀

Helena's upbringing was marked by poverty, stemming from the loss of her mother. This hardship led her to turn to prostitution for survival. However, her future husband Eddy, rescued her from a dangerous encounter with a violent client, allowing her to leave that life behind.

Together, they transformed an abandoned hunting shed into a functioning farm for their family.

Known affectionately as "Dove," Which is a pet name given to her since she worked as a painted lady. The color red became symbol for Helena since she adopted it as her signature, using the color to accentuate her vibrant hair and attract clientele during her time in the sex work industry.

Even after transitioning from a sex worker to a devoted wife I kept that color in mind each time she got an updated wardrobe.

The Harringtons lived poorly which is also why some of Helena's outfits seem out of date for time, she utilized her knowledge of previous decades sewing patterns to make clothes for herself.

I used up every outfit slot in CAS and I'd rather not overwhelm myself so instead I chose my favorites to share!

𝟏𝟖𝟗𝟎'𝐬 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤

⤷ 𝐨𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐫 𝐛𝐚𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐞 ⚓

Oscar is our first heir for this legacy and since he's still just a tot, many of his outfit choices are still chosen by his parents and guardians. However, he seems to have picked up on his parents preferred color palette of black and grey, with some added blues, greens and browns. All of his clothing is made of sturdy fabric and ready for rough housing and playing tough.

In appearance, we can already see that his nose is quite prominent and his eyes a beautiful grey-blue hue, taking after his mother, Winifred, while his hair a striking black to contrast. Still quite young, he hasn't quite lost his chubbiness from being a baby or grown in all his teeth, but you best believe he is ready to take on whatever adventures await him each and every day.

Also, I wanted to mention that I've actually messed up Ozzy's aging for how I intend to progress my Sims ages going forward. So it will probably seem like Ozzy is stuck in toddler-hell for a lot longer than he should be but we're just going to go with it at this point because I had already styled his looks!

The man himself is a workaholic, spending most of his time in Windenburg as he tries to expand his family past the small town they laid their roots.

But is his avoidant behaviour truly that of a ambitious man? Or does it have to do with his late wife and her unfriendly family's watchful eyes?

George and Ruby's outfits going into the 1890s represent the odd dichotomy of their new lives. On one hand, they live a relatively "simple" life on Ruby's father's farm, and are compelled to dress practically, in simple, sturdy clothes, in order to support a lifestyle of hard labor. On the other hand, they have Moses's consistent financial support - less so cash, more often in the form of lavish gifts, especially of expensive clothing. They often have multiple outfits for the same occasion, one more expensive, and one more practical.

George in particular has taken to Moses's habit of giving gifts. George finds the promise of wealth infinitely appealing, and although he hasn't yet obtained said wealth, Moses's expensive presents often make him feel as if he has. Because of this influence from his father-in-law, George's outfits have also trended more towards Moses's all-black color scheme, becoming darker in color and adding in more blues and jewel tones, to replace George's teenage greens and yellows. He dresses in Moses's gift-clothing whenever possible, only returning to more practical garments while working on the farm.

Ruby, on the other hand, seems discomforted by the expensive clothes her father throws at her. Her hunger for independence and identity tends to push her away from making use of his gifts, no matter how lovely. She does dress up when he asks her to, or when the situation arises, but otherwise Ruby favors sturdy, comfortable, practical clothing. Some of her outfits do retain her teenage greens and yellows, especially those given to her by Moses, but the majority of her clothes are in a soft, neutral color palette, made up of mostly creams and browns. Still, Ruby does have a taste for drama, and what she lacks in fashionable clothing, she makes up for in her variable, expressive hats, often covered in flowers or feathers.

200 Followers Gift: 19th-century Men's Lookbook

Finally, here it is. A gift to you all for getting my follower count up to a whole 200. I know it's not a huge milestone, but I'm excited about it, and I'm glad so many other people are interested in the things I make. As of right now I have 212 followers, and there were only about 190 students at my elementary school. That's weird. That's a lot of people.

This is a more informal lookbook than my usual ones. I haven't really gone all in on the photo editing. It's more of a timeline of fashion than a true lookbook. Note that it's a mix of casual wear (1810, 1820, 1830, 1850), regular daywear (1800, 1860, 1870, 1880, 1890) and evening wear (1840).

Recently I was lucky to see Moulin Rouge the Musical and I absolutely loved the production design. While most of the 1890s settings are richly jewel coloured to fit the Moulin Rouge atmosphere, there's a scene where two of the characters go for a walk on the promenade, which in stark contrast is made up of lovely pastel shades. Since the 1890s are one of my favourite decades for fashion, I immediately knew I had to create an inspired lookbook.

Lookbook for the Darlington twins! Primrose and Violet have very similar wardrobes, mostly because until recently, their family couldn’t afford a wide variety of clothes. Now that they’re getting older, they want to set themselves apart a bit more and develop their own styles. With money no longer being such a big issue, will they be able to pull this off as they head into their teenage years?

One way they've started to differentiate is through colors—Rosie rocks pink, while Violet sticks to a more blue-toned palette. Funny enough, Violet’s favorite color was originally pink, but when Primrose claimed it, she just went along with it and eventually grew to love blue :)

By today's standards, Winifred's wardrobe is quite tame, but for the period she may come off as a bit eclectic. She usually wears dark colors, what she can't justify dressing in all black for, she will usually opt for various rich shades of reds, greens and browns. She dresses in warm fabric in the colder months like wool and heavy cotton, and in warmer months, light linen and cottons.

Many of her outfits include various stylish hats and fashionable jewelry. While the Baudelaire's are not upper class by any means, the 1890's saw a shift in even the working class being able to buy "fashionable" items with the rise of industrialization. This changed how clothing was produced - what we know today as being ready-to-wear items - and by extension, working class men & women were able to purchase various pieces to keep up with the trends of the time period.

A notable piece of Winifred's appearance is her use of make-up and opting out of the up and coming gibson-girl updos of the period. During the time period, usually only working class women like prostitutes and actresses wore make-up, and was said to cause aversion for most men to see this on a 'well-mannered' woman of the time. However, Winifred not caring all that much about appealing to men all that much, still wears rosy blushes and tints her lips a bit darker.
