I can't help but think how Katniss's narration of Finnick and Annie always holding-hands had a certain longing to it, almost a painful one, even some jealousy to it, IMO. Because wherever they are, whatever they are doing, Finnick never lets go of his girl's hand. And it reminds me of all those times Peeta held Katniss's hand:

When they were walking down the train tracks coming back home from first games, when they walked through the gloomy streets of 12, when they entered the opening ceremony for the 74th/75th HG's, when they were waiting for their turn for their private sessions, etc., etc.

And just how good and warm it made her feel in all those times, how it just grounded her when everything else felt like it was about to crush her.

Katniss's constant observation of Annie and Finnick holding hands—even the simple fact she is narrating something so close and special to an element of her and Peeta's relationship—rings to me how Katniss is longing to have what Finnick got back. Because she knows if her Peeta was there, he would be holding her hand. Never letting go of it.

So, it doesn't really surprise me that on the same pages, Peeta shows up in the cafeteria, making reality wash all over her. And it also doesn't surprise me when she, once again, observes Finnick holding Annie's hand tightly as they are leaving the cafeteria, while Peeta is close to her. And everything is oh so taunting for her, for them.

Non ho finito la bozza della presentazione per domani e soprattutto non riesco a fare stare tutto in 10 slides perché per vincere sto grant il mio capo benedettissimo ha ben pensato di includere altri due progetti oltre al mio, che tanto tutto fa brodo e devo studiarmeli tutti io entro il 17 ottobre, mica lui. Se vinco (ma non vinco), mi deve una torta al cioccolato fondente che vorrei tantissimo mangiare in questo momento e almeno due giorni di ferie (sì, non mi aspetto molto da lui).

la notizia dei fatti avvenuti nel carcere minorile di Milano si aggiunge alle centinaia di continue notizie di abusi di potere e violenza brutale da parte della polizia. mi sale una rabbia che non riesco a canalizzare ed esprimere, una rabbia che è il dolore che provi quando ti zittiscono. quando ti chiedono cos’hai contro la polizia, perché ancora urli certe frasi dopo i 17 anni, cosa ti hanno fatto. non serve neanche finire in un carcere o farsi trovare con un grammo di erba addosso per essere pestatə e accorgersi del problema. basta fare una denuncia per molestie sessuali e vedere come ti rimandano indietro, basta essere una donna trans che cammina per la città ed essere accusata di essere una p*dofila da prendere a botte, ti basta scendere in piazza per i diritti lgbtq+ per sentirti dire dagli agenti (mi è successo davvero) “guarda quanta fica sprecata”, essere una turista in Italia per essere violentata, manifestare, o peggio ancora basta non essere una persona bianca per poter essere consideratə indegnə di protezione e umanità. è sistemico, è continuo, e c’è un motivo se vogliono abolire il reato di tortura. mi fa male e mi fa rabbia, e non capisco come ci sia ancora così tanta gente che non apre gli occhi.

Why did Beth and Dean wait so long to have kids? If by s1 Beth and Dean had been together 20 years, and they started dating when Beth was about 14 (based on Michigan’s minor work permit laws, since Beth had that ice cream parlor job), then Beth is 34 at the start of the show. And Kenny is 11, if we are to believe his birthday cake. So they waited until she was 23. Which doesn’t seem very old, but considering that she probably married him immediately after high school, that’s five years where she probably actually liked the guy. And if she never had a job after the ice cream shop, the way Dean says she didn’t, then what did she do for 5 years?

She was heading to the Warrior candidate training, again.

“Now, Annie,” her father was saying as he was accompanying her to the gate, “When you get to HQ, remember this: obey your superiors but do not trust them. They are not your allies, understand? Even if they’re nice to you, you have to assume they are trying to get something out of you.”

“Yes, sir,” Annie said.

Her father nodded, and for a while, he looked at her saying nothing. Then, he added, “The same count for the other kids. They can seem nice, but they too aspire to be chosen as Warriors. They’re not your friends.”

“Understood,” Annie said.

Months ago, she had another night paralysis while they were camping out in the wastelands. It was the depth of winter, but the sky at night was grey with debris. She didn’t remember much of where they were, or for what reason: everything of that period was a jumble in her memory, but it must have been one of the regions where the fires were extinguished first, because it was cold.

She remembered, in fact, the cold, greasy air on her skin as she gained back her consciousness. Her cold tears. And Armin’s arms.

“Annie! It’s okay,” he whispered to her ear, and kissed her on the head. “Are you cold? I’m sorry. I had to get you outside.”

She was still sobbing, after all. The others must have hated her, as it was already difficult to get some sleep in the first place, in those missions.

Yes, she was cold, and felt unpleasant all over, and yet she’d rather stay there, with Armin. She held onto him. He must have felt cold, too. But then, if they went back inside the tent, they could not touch each other like that, could they?

“Please…” she started saying. But then the opening of the tent was unhooked and Reiner came out.

“Armin, um, heh,” he said. And then, “Oh, Annie. You’re… you’re awake.”

He looked concerned, and almost hurt. As she felt fear running through her, she knew she had one of her cold stares.

“Um,” Reiner said, and extended his arms to them, showing them what he was carrying. “I brought you a blanket. I thought…”

“Thank you, Reiner,” Armin said genuinely. He reached for the blanket, and wrapped it around Annie and himself. “Sorry for waking you up.”

“No… no problem.”

Reiner threw her another glance, meeting her eyes briefly, and then went back inside.

Annie felt so embarrassed.
