National I Love My Feet Day
National I Love My Feet Day is celebrated on August 17 every year. You might be wondering why feet are being celebrated — well the real question should be ‘why aren’t you celebrating it?.’ We know feet are sometimes associated with being gross, but the truth is feet do a whole lot for us as humans: from carrying our entire body weight to carrying any extra load we carry, like groceries and other heavy materials. Feet are the foundation for the entire body in terms of support, balance, posture, and overall well-being, so they should be catered to.
History of National I LOVE My feet Day
National I Love My Feet Day was invented by Carolyn Jenkins and was intended to be a day in which people not only loved their feet but took proper care of them. Taking care of your feet is of utmost importance for individuals with diabetes or certain circulatory conditions. It is worth knowing that 75% of all adults have a foot problem, and we should aim to drastically reduce that number. These foot problems usually come from wearing improper footwear, such as oversized or undersized footwear as many people still don’t know their accurate sizes.
Footwear choices have to be carefully made as they can create a lifetime of misery if chosen wrongly. As our feet are our primary mode of transport, we often forget how hard they work while they quietly and faithfully help us stand, walk, run, skip, jump and play sports. They take us wherever we want to go — from school to work and recreational sites. They withstand all the things we do in our everyday lives, accomplishing a lot of things our hands cannot.
National I Love My Feet Day serves as a reminder to learn about our feet, share good foot care tips, footwear guidance, foot care, and product information, and partake in activities to help us celebrate our feet and keep them healthy. The inaugural I Love My Feet Day was observed in 2015 after submission by Carolyn Jenkins in May 2015. It has been observed annually ever since and this year makes it the eighth celebration of I Love My Feet Day.

At a show at St John's Hall, Liverpool, the Beatles are joined on bass by Johnny Gustafson of the Big Three. This is clearly a mistake, as Paul McCartney is thus free to wander, and you will notice that hereafter he will always be tethered by an instrument.

Everyone knows about the blackouts of 1965 and 1977 (and those more recent), but few realize that a 500-block section of Manhattan lost power for 13 hours on August 17, 1959. New Yorkers coped in different ways. Here in an automat, they dine by candlelight.

I usually try to take the same kinds of jars with me when I go to the zero waste shop, but today it was a mixed bag.
The shop requires you to weigh your containers, which involves either stickers or writing the number on your jars and containers. But I realised fairly soon there was no need for that.
Numbers are my thing, they stick in my brain like butter. When I've got all the same jars with me, that's easy. About 5% of my diet exists of peanut butter, which comes in large, clear jars with white lids that are perfect for storing staples like grains, lentils, beans, oats, nuts and seeds. They weigh exactly 314 grams. I know this because I weigh them every time, just in case - you never know! - that changes. (Why would it change?! I don't know. But what if?)
But sometimes I run out of peanut butter jars, and I have to bring some others. My chocolate spread jars weigh 298 grams. The slightly bigger ones of the same brand weigh 374 grams. My margarine tub weighs exactly 20 grams and my plastic henna pots I use for dried herbs and spices weigh 28 grams.
The trick is in finding commonalities. 314 and 374 begin and end with the same number. So do 298 and 28, and 28 is close to 20. Today I had an overflow of hazelnuts and had to use one of the communal jars that people leave at the front of the shop, which weighed 118 grams. Perfect.
And yet because there were so many different jars today, and perhaps because my sleep has been so disturbed which makes me tired all the time, I had trouble at the till. I had to mentally go over each jar before I could tell the cashier the right number. I managed, though. Just need to remember the connections.
Every time I empty yet another peanut butter jar, though, I can get rid of one of the other ones. One day, all of the jars in my store cupboard will look exactly the same, and all it will cost me is a very one-sided diet.
#grocery shopping#zero waste#zero waste shop#peanut butter#numbers#I like them#numbers are good#a story every day#17 august#2024#i will of course keep the margarine tubs and the henna pots for herbs and spices#but one day all the other ones will look uniform#all hail the peanut butter jar

Today's History, 17 August; आज के दिन भारत माता के सीने पर खींची गई थी रेडक्लिफ लाइन, पढ़ें 17 अगस्त का इतिहास
History of 17 August: 17 अगस्त का इतिहास भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप के बटंवारे (partition of the Indian subcontinent) की याद दिलाता है.
