Treasure & Booty in the Golden Age of Piracy

During the Golden Age of Piracy (1690-1730), pirates were first and foremost after gold, silver, and jewels, but if these could not be grabbed, then a ship’s cargo would be taken for resale at a pirate haven. Shared amongst the crew, the lure of plunder drove many a mariner to piracy in the hope that they could escape the toil and hardships of ordinary ship life and enjoy the fleeting pleasures of shore. While the majority of pirates quickly frittered away their ill-gotten gains, some pirates did hit the jackpot when they captured a treasure ship and took, in a few hours, riches that an honest seaman would never earn in a lifetime before the mast.

Coinage

The most sought-after loot for a pirate was gold, silver, and gemstones. Bullion and jewels could be sold to a dealer in a pirate haven, but coinage was even handier as it could be spent directly. During the Golden Age of Piracy, the coinage a pirate might hope to come across included Spanish silver reales (0.12 oz / 3.43 g each), silver pesos (equivalent to eight reales and consequently often called 'pieces of eight'), gold and silver ducats (originally minted in Venice but widely used elsewhere; the gold version was worth about 10 reales), and Spanish doubloons (the largest gold coin, known as the 8-escudo coin, and weighing about 1 oz / 28 g).

Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz

Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (1646-1716) was a German polymath who became well-known across Europe for his work, particularly in the fields of science, mathematics, and philosophy. Leibniz's rationalist philosophy attempted to reconcile traditional religious beliefs with the new discoveries of the Scientific Revolution, and his work was influential on later thinkers during the Enlightenment.

Early Life

Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz was born in Leipzig on 1 July 1646. His father was a professor of moral philosophy at Leipzig's university. The young Gottfried learnt from his father's library and taught himself Latin, his studies continued with spells at Leibniz, Jena, and Altdorf universities where, in 1666, he concluded with a doctorate in law. Leibniz began his career as a secretary to a minister serving the Elector of Mainz in 1667. Working in this role for the next five years, Leibniz had the opportunity to travel across Europe, notably to England, France, Holland, and Italy. In 1677, Leibniz gained employment with the Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg, where he performed various secretarial and advisory duties. He was appointed the duke's historian and librarian, a position he held for the rest of his life despite his foray into other fields like science, philosophy, mathematics, engineering, and even alchemy.

Leibniz developed such a wide array of intellectual pursuits that the historian H. Chisick notes that he was:

One of the most brilliant but least focussed minds of the early Enlightenment…He was a curious blend of courtier, administrator, political advisor and not infrequently pamphleteer, technical advisor, think-tanker and philosopher who recommended himself by his sheer intelligence and energy.

Leibniz endlessly flitted between projects, finding curious distractions in just about everything. He himself called his massive range of intellectual pursuits an "almost perpetual jumble" (Gottlieb, 165).

Danny had been cursed when traveling the infinite realms he was exploring a world where the year was 1528, he had been exploring when a person uses magic to try to bind Danny to himself instead he bonded Danny to the land killing the magic user in the process. Danny became stuck in this new dimension unable to leave, he had no one to look and find him. Over the years many have tried to bond Danny to themselves but ended with their death, and Danny with more chains and being cursed

In the year 1695 people started to settle down in the land that Danny was bound to. Over the years the place became known as Gotham Danny protect everyone he could but he has grown weak because of the chains that hold him down. When Batman appeared and started helping protect Danny's people Danny decided to bless him with protection and each Robin Batman had would be protected

In 2260 another magic user appeared and tried to take control of Danny this time they were able to take control of him, but Danny made sure that the magic user and he could not leave Gotham. Batman had to let The Justices League into his city with a couple of the Justice League Dark. John was the one to tell the bats that the magic user had been able to enslave the Gotham spirit.

Hi! I remember reading this fic a few years ago but only this specific scene is clear. Harry and Draco are gonna watch a quidditch game and had to bring Scorpius because no one was available to babysit and Harry was okay with it. I think the potential baby sitters included Pansy, Narcissa, and Theo/Blaise. Drarry might’ve had a pretend relationship/fwb thing going on but thats as much as I remember. Not sure about this part but the quidditch game might’ve also been their first official outing or smth. Thank you!
