Simon Russell Beale

Sir Simon Russell Beale CBE (born 12 January 1961) is an English actor. He has been described by The Independent as "the greatest stage actor of his generation". He has received two BAFTA Awards, three Olivier Awards, and a Tony Award. For his services to drama, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2019.

Beale made his film debut in Sally Potter's period drama Orlando (1992). He gained prominence for his roles in Persuasion (1995), Hamlet (1996), My Week with Marilyn (2011), The Deep Blue Sea (2011), Into the Woods (2014), and Mary Queen of Scots (2018). He has also appeared in the television projects The Young Visiters (2003), Dunkirk (2004), and as Falstaff in the BBC made-for-television films Henry IV, Part I and Part II (2012). A very cute and cuddly daddy, I first noticed him in the second season of House of the Dragon. Personally, I'd waste no time in trying to get him in bed. Seriously, that beard would just look great with a big load of jizz all over it wouldn't it? I know absolutely nothing of his personal life, so he is most likely straight. Wait… Beale is gay? FinnLo Math

Hi, welcome to Lucky's hyper fixation at the current moment

For the past two weeks I have binge read Sweater Weather, Vaincre, and Coast to Coast by the lovely @lumosinlove and just want to say, Jesus Christ. I have actually fallen in love with O'Nutzy SO HARD and they are amazing and I'm absolutely a slave to Harvard Era FinLo. To @lumosinlove, this is a masterpiece and now I want to watch hockey, you've infected me.

Anyway, with credits out of the way, I did some math, (get ready for Harvard era FinLo math under cut)

*Disclaimer: None of these characters are mine and I did not create this story, so everything I say may be completely incorrect. Any of this may be disproven in Breakaway, which I don't/won't have the ability to read. Most of this is based off cannon times and events within the Sweater Weather universe, but I have made clear where cannon ends and my assumptions begin. Again, these are not my characters and all credit goes to @lumosinlove, This is not making fun of, patronizing, or degrading the all around fantastic story they have created, and is simply pointing out things I have noticed.*

Now in Coast to Coast, I noticed some strange things that Finn says. He tells Logan he's been in love with him for eight years, right? And over the course of the story Logan mentions he's loved Finn for 7 at some point (that may actually be in Vaincre, if it is the math lines up so that's a testy point). And when they kissed in part V of Coast to Coast it said it had been four years since they last kissed. This threw me off, because I knew this was, what, early January of 2020 in universe.

So I did some digging. Finn is a year older than Logan, meaning when Logan came to Harvard in 2014 (codified in Coast to Coast part VII, the very start, includes sexy Batman during Logan's first Halloween party at Harvard), he would have been a Freshman while Finn was a Sophomore.

Now it isn't clear whether their first kiss in 2015 was when at the end of the 2014-2015 school year or the start of the 2015-2016 school year (though Logan doesn't have a car, so that lends a little more credibility to Logan still being a Freshman, but it kinda seems like Logan never has a car in general, even in Sweater Weather and Vaincre). I tend to think it's the start of the 2015-16 school year because that's when Finn met Hanna, and those sorts of things don't really carry over after being apart for the summer. Anyway, this means it would be Finn's Junior year.

Now their last kiss before Finn leaves is supposedly in May of 2016, which was part II in Coast to Coast, but that doesn't make sense because it is stated that they are only one year apart,

[I'm pretty sure at least. Later in Coast to Coast it mentions Finn's rookie year and it's said that it was only one (1) really bad year without Logan (same goes for Logan as a senior) before Logan is drafted to the Lions after he graduates. This means they're only one year apart, so the 2016 thing I believe to be wrong]

and if you do the math with Logan being a Freshman in the 2014-2015 school year, he would be a Junior when Finn is a Senior in the 2016-2017 school year (I have a whole timeline trust me on this, it'll be at the bottom). So theoretically their last kiss would have been in May of 2017.

Now their next kiss in in January of 2020. Based off of the very beginning of Sweater Weather, the time period of the fic is the 2019 NHL season, so starting in September, it would be January of 2020 when Remus and Sirius' photos got leaked, right before All-stars, which Logan was going on. The same day the photos are leaked, Finn and Logan kiss for the first time since May of 2017.

If you tally it up, it would be 2 years and 7 months since they had last kissed: Seven months left in 2017, plus all of 2018 and 2019 {Essentially (7+12+12)/12}. Notably, not four years.

[If we are going on the timeline where the last kiss is in 2016, it would be 3 years and 7 months, which would be much more reasonable to say four years; however, that timeline is a little jacked so.]

The other thing that threw me off is Finn saying he'd been in love with Logan for eight years, which I also believe to be wrong.

Finn says to Logan when they are officially getting together in part V of Coast to Coast that he'd loved Logan for eight years, which doesn't make sense if they only just met in August of 2014.

To put it simply, they wouldn't have known each other for eight years. Again, if you tally it up, that's five months in 2014, five years, and then about half a month in 2020. {Essentially (5 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 1/2) / 12}. Let's just say they've known each other for 5 years and 6 months. Again, not eight years.

There is the concern of not loving each other when they first met, but Finn does say that he had loved Logan since the moment he saw him at the training camps in 2014, which would have been when they first met, so we can disregard any buffer time.

[And I am about 90% sure that August of 2014 was when they first met because during the Halloween party scene in part VII of Coast to Coast Logan talks about how Finn is his "new roommate" and they'd only just met. I could be wrong.]

And about Logan saying he'd loved Finn for seven years, I don't remember if it is in Coast to Coast which ends in 2020 or in Vaincre which goes until summer of 2021. If it is in Vaincre, this is a totally moot point because it's correct for about 7 years, but if it's in Coast to Coast (thinking on it now it may even be in Sweater Weather, either one would be off), then it wouldn't have been 7 years, but anywhere between 5-6 years. I would need to go back and find the part.

Other Interesting Math Things I figured out while Hyper fixating:

Alex O'Hara:

In Vaincre it says that Alex had to come from somewhere other than Harvard to see Finn in the hospital after he had gotten his first concussion, meaning he wasn't attending Harvard at the time. Vaincre also introduces a whole gang of people who were all on the Harvard team at the same time, which included Alex and Logan. So there had to be at least one year where they were on it together, and I assume it's probably Logan's freshman year.

When Finn's concussion happens is never explicitly stated, but I am assuming it's Finn's Junior year based on Finn and Logan's relationship at the time (pinning and extremely reserved while not awaiting Finn leaving (all this is coming from Logan talking about the concussion in Vaincre)).

With all this to say, I can assume Alex was a Senior in the 2014-2015 school year, left to join Florida's team in 2015-2016 and met Kasey down there in their rookie year. (Obviously they proceeded to fall in love as all good O'Hara's do: fall in love with their best friend.)

Leo Knut:

*open's mouth* *closes mouth* *opens mouth again* *looks down at the ground* Leo was in 8th grade when Finn and Logan met.

Leo was 18 at the start of Sweater Weather (2019) with a birthday somewhere in Nov-Dec, so theoretically he would have been a Senior in High School the year before. If you just tick back the years, that would put him in 8th grade during the 2014-2015 school year.

Not anything important I just stumbled across it and thought it was worth sharing, may as well make this post longer.

Happy 55th birthday to Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark!

Born on May 26th 1968, Frederik André Henrik Christian is the heir apparent to the Danish throne as the elder son of Queen Margrethe II and Prince Henrik. He became Crown Prince of Denmark when his mother ascended to the throne as Margrethe II on January 14th 1972.

Frederik married Mary Donaldson on May 14th 2004 at Copenhagen Cathedral, Copenhagen. The couple have four children: Christian (17), Isabella (16) and twins Vincent and Josephine (12).

Frederik has a special interest in scientific research, climate change and sustainability. He also encourages Danish participation in sports, as a patron and honorary member of various sports organizations, and a member of the International Olympic Committee. In celebration of his 50th birthday, on May 21st 2018, Frederik initiated an annual public running event across the five biggest cities in Denmark called "Royal Run" with more than 70.000 participants including Frederik and his own family. His foundation - the Crown Prince Frederik's Foundation - aims to provide financial assistance to students of social policy and sciences, for one year's study at Harvard and provide financial support for scientific expeditions, particularly to foreign parts of the world, including Greenland and the Faeroe Islands and sports purposes.

PRE-DEBUT ( 𝟐𝟎𝟎𝟗 — 𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟓 )

in 2009, aera joins JYPE at the age of 14. she would be the only member of the romantics within the company until 2012. when that time finally came, rue passed an audition in japan before moving to korea later on. months before MNET announced their new survival show, produce 101, moon joined the company in 2014, a few months short before her little brother, changbin, did. aera competed on sixteen & both moon and rue were featured on produce 101. aera and rue made it to the end of their individual survival shows but did not rank high enough to make it to the final lineup; moon ended up passing and joining IOI.

DEBUT ( 𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟓 )

in july of 2015, JYPE confirmed that a new girl group would debut in september 2015. the public was shocked to hear that the lineup would only consist of three members, which was very different in comparison to the number of members that twice would have. after being revealed from youngest to oldest, the romantics’ group name and logo was announced in late july.

on august 1, 2015, the single album WHISTLE was announced, including the promotional single WHISTLE along with the b-sides WHAT IS LOVE? and FANCY. on september 1, their debut release climbed to number one and later would be promoted by all three songs, including music videos and live stages.

IOI + LOVE LETTER, PT. I ( 𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟔 — 𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟕 )

after making it to the final lineup of IOI, moon debuted with the group in may 2016. because of this, moon’s activities from the romantics were put on hold until the 2016 promotional single, PLAYING WITH FIRE was released in november with the first mini album, LOVE LETTER, PT. I. later on, IOI disbanded at the end of january 2017, this would give the romantics an opportunity to be more active as a trio — the next release was revealed on december 1, and a week later the announcement for their first tour, A LOVE LETTER TO YOU, went public.

LOVE LETTER, PT. II + FINALE & THE FEELS ( 𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟕 )

on january 1, the sequel to the first part of LOVE LETTER mini album was released with the title track, CALL ME. though CALL ME did not earn any music show wins, the trio redeemed themselves with an all-kill thanks to the single STEREOTYPE, which was promoted as the title track for the finale (released on may 5) of the LOVE LETTER mini album series. the girls promoted their very first english track, THE FEELS, as a b-side for LOVE LETTER, FINALE, which became an overseas success and attracted more international fans.

despite the trio seemingly getting along from the public view, aera became envious of moon and rue’s growing popularity as visuals and a gradual pattern of poor mistreatment towards them had begun as a result. this same year, despite never going public, aera was found cheating on MANIA!’s mae with kang daniel, the group’s activities was halted for several months as a result. an apology was released by aera not long after word got out, but many fans felt it wasn’t genuine.

AS IF IT'S YOUR LAST + GOLDEN LOVE! ( 𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟖 )

in march 2018, the romantics released their first single, AS IF IT'S YOUR LAST. the track was the introductory song to the first full-length album, GOLDEN LOVE!, with the lead singles FEEL SPECIAL, BLACK MAGIC and FOREVER YOUNG. the album would later become one of their best selling releases since 2015 after making their billboard top 100 debut with BLACK MAGIC (may 2018).

later in march, moon’s step-brother, changbin, officially debuted with stray kids. the seo siblings would soon become best known for their rapping. on june 12, moon and rue became MCs for music bank (rue) and music countdown (moon) and remained one for an entire year. they became a crowd favorite when seen interacting with their fellow labelmates, which was done in hopes to divert the public eye from aera’s scandal in the previous year.

KILL THIS LOVE ( 𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟗 )

in march 2019, the romantics released their first japanese album, KILL THIS LOVE. after once again having charting success, the group was accused of lip-synching on multiple occasions. in response to the accusations, the group debunked this during all throughout their first world tour, PLATINUM LOVE! by showing the difference when they do and don’t sing. they made stops in korea, japan, and most of the states, being on the road for several months while preparing their next full-length album.

CRY FOR ME + SCIENTIST ( 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟎 )

though the trio was scheduled to release a third album (intended to be an english record) after their second tour had concluded, it was postponed due to several sources catching evidence of aera being disrespectful towards staff and degrading her members. aera was put on a year-long hiatus, but rue and moon decided it would be beneficial to carry on for the sake of their fanbase.

so, they used two potential title tracks from the scrapped album, CRY FOR ME (may) and SCIENTIST (august) to promote as the second and third singles. by the end of july, fans were worried that the group would be disbanding if the scandals continued, but JYPE released a statement assuring them otherwise. others felt that the overall image of the romantics looked better without their leader, who seemed to be creating a poor reputation for not just herself but also the group as a whole. a week after the statement was released, aera finally returned to the group with a final warning.

during this time, in mid november, moon released 1, 3, 2 with bang chan (stray kids) and their relationship was announced in january of 2021, two months prior to stray kids’ dating ban being lifted.

THE LOVESICK GIRLS! + I CAN'T STOP ME ( 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟏 )

on december 25 of 2020, a teaser for the official third album titled THE LOVESICK GIRLS! was released at midnight. the album included the lead singles LOVESICK GIRLS and SHOUT OUT TO MY EX. when the album was dropped on january 20, many believed that this would be aera’s last era with the group, but this was proven wrong when she appeared in the august promotions for the fourth single, I CAN'T STOP ME. 2021 was considered the beginning of the romantics’ golden years, which is still ongoing as of 2022.

ROMANCE III ( 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟐 )

on march 14, the group released their fourth album, ROMANCE III, with an expanded edition on april 14 to mark their seventh year. they promoted their first collaborative single, WOMAN LIKE ME and the third english single, NO MORE SAD SONGS. the group’s intention for this era was to embark on a more mature sound as the girls were fully grown up. a month prior to the release, JYPE released a statement announcing rue’s relationship with johnny (nct). promotions for the standard edition of ROMANCE III continued on until april, whereas promotions for the expanded edition with the single SWEET MELODY would carry on until the beginning of may.

in july, the trio was slated to promote the b-side, HOLIDAY, for three weeks. many fans noticed that the girls were not showcasing their usual chemistry onstage, further making rumors of disbandment arise. but when JYPE suddenly dropped a statement in august that announced aera’s contract termination exactly one month prior to their seventh anniversary, questions were finally answered. to ease anxiety and concern, the company later confirmed that rue and moon extended their contracts with JYPE, reassuring that the romantics would be active for (at least) the next seven years. the statement was only the beginning of proving that the girls weren’t done yet because after aera’s departure, fans let rue and moon know they were going to stay by getting NO MORE SAD SONGS and HAPPINESS to chart & go viral both domestic and internationally. this created mass success, leading to the girls promoting in different countries for nearly a month prior to awards season.

after a star-studded performance of the hit b-side, TOUCH, at the golden disc awards, the romantics released a performance and music video for what would become their biggest hit song in history — the track would make 2022 their best year to date.

during the heat of awards season, JYPE would release tour dates of the very first tour as a two-member lineup in december 2022 called ROMANCE: THE WORLD TOUR. this would be the romantics’ first stadium and arena tour worldwide.

aveline is an exercise in imagining how cruel, neglected girls grow into heartless, cold women. by all accounts, she has taken her barren childhood and created something out of it, yet she has nothing to show for it. she denies what she passionately wants for what she thinks she should have — and what results is a young girl lost in a woman’s body. while she can be petulant and unforgiving in her words, at her core, she desperately craves to be loved and desired, and to love and desire back.

formerly from a wealthy family, her mother rewrote her late father’s will to ensure that she would not receive anything. too prideful to return back to the belly of the beast, she sold her apartment in nyc and married a man from parton whom loves her but she doesn’t love back to save herself from destitution. while her husband is well-aware of her nature, he hopes that she will come around to his affection. 

her secret —

when she was thirteen, she pushed a girl that was bullying her down the two flights of stairs in a fit of rage. the girl broke two ribs and her right arm. aveline’s parents were able to cover it up with a sizable bribe to the boarding school and the girl’s family. the next year, she attended a different school, and the memory is mostly a part of her past that she suppressed.

headcanons — 

i. aveline has never worked a day in her life. after graduating from columbia university with a degree in art history, she sold her apartment in nyc and rented a run-down place in deep brooklyn. she spent three years wandering around soho smoking cigarettes and eating croissants. 

ii. she has a nasty habit of sticking her gum in places where she wants to be remembered, for better or for worse — underneath the shelves of her favorite bookstore, on the menus of her favorite restaurant, on the underside of her husband’s boots. 

iii. for the first twelve years of her life, aveline was subjected to her mother’s munchausen syndrome by proxy. it was only after her father intervened that she was able to live a normal life. 

iv. she was a vegetarian from birth, mostly because her mother forbade her from eating meat  because she claimed she had an allergy to it. though she still refrains from eating most meat, she has gained a taste for good steak and venison. 

v. she frequently throws her wedding band away to test whether her husband will buy her another one. she’s done it about three times already, flushing her ring down the toilet twice and burying it parton park.

## Japan is using earth from a battlefield filled with human remains to build the foundation of a US military installation.

One Sunday in October, Takamatsu Gushiken dug up a femur. It was one of several exciting finds that fall. By the month’s end, he had uncovered the phalange of a foot, two fibulas, and a lower jaw, too. He rushed to tell the rest of his volunteer group, Gamafuya, which means “cave diggers” in the Okinawan Indigenous language of Uchinaaguchi. The bones confirmed what Gushiken had known all along: There, in a tract of forest in the southern city of Itoman, Okinawa, lay the remains of the victims of World War II.

As November began, Gushiken returned to the site to find the forest had been clear-cut.

“We only work on Sundays,” he told me over Zoom. “When we went to the site on Sunday, November 1, we found that the area of the forest where we were working was gone.” One week after that, Gushiken encountered a “No Trespassing” sign. The site had a new owner, a local gravel and sand company, and a new name, Kumano Mine.

“The company had no contract at all,” Gushiken explained. But local mining outfits had been keeping track of the news. In April 2020, the Japanese Ministry of Defense submitted a revised plan for the construction of a US military base in the bay off the shore of the Henoko district of Nago city, complementing the existing Marine Corps base Camp Schwab. The construction, which was announced in 1996 and was supposed to be completed by 2014, would require dramatically more landfill than once thought. In the forest where Gamafuya saw a chance to return the dead to their families, the mining company saw an opportunity to sell massive amounts of earth to a pair of big spenders: the Japanese Defense Ministry and the US Department of Defense.

While the original land reclamation sites for the base were located in the northern part of Okinawa and on mainland Japan, the expansion seeks land from the south of Okinawa, known for hosting much of the fighting during the war. About 70 percent of the earth is to be sourced from Itoman, a city that once hosted some of the bloodiest episodes in the Battle of Okinawa, which stretched from April through June, 1945, and killed more than 100,000 Okinawan civilians—about a third of the island’s population. To this day, the ground in Itoman is packed with remains.

“It’s a sacred place, where the families of war victims visit to pray,” Gushiken said.

If the plan proceeds as written, the US military base will be built on a foundation filled with the bones of the war dead.

The base at Henoko Bay requires so much landfill because it is being built in the ocean. Okinawa, a prefecture comprised of an archipelago with an eponymous big island, already holds 32 US military installations on its combined 877 square miles. Most are on the main island, where the US military [occupies][2] 15 percent of all land. Officially, the new base is a replacement for the Futenma Air Station, which President Bill Clinton promised would close within five to seven years of a [1996 joint announcement][3]. But critics have long been skeptical that the base at Henoko will take the place of the old air station, both because its completion remains uncertain, and because its intended capacities exceed what Futenma has now.

Local architect and activist Makishi Yoshikazu [describes][4] the Henoko base plan as a “hat trick” in which three new facilities—a military airport, pier, and combat aircraft loading zone—will be rolled into one. “Although it’s called the ‘Futenma relocation,’ it’s not a relocation,” he said. “It’s the construction of a new base.” The difference is semantic, but it’s one that local activists find important. As the Japanese government expands the island’s area, the United States expands its military presence.

With Futenma still open, the base construction is delayed, in part, because the Japanese government needs more landfill for ground reinforcement work. Drilling surveys completed since 2014 [have revealed][5] that the seafloor off the shore of Henoko is “soft as mayonnaise,” making it too weak to support the planned base. According to Hideki Yoshikawa, an anthropologist and the director of the Okinawa Environmental Justice Project, the Japanese government’s 2014 plan was to drive 2,700 sand pillars into the seafloor; that number has since increased to 71,000.

On top of the need for more dirt came restrictions on where to collect it. “In 2015 the Okinawa prefectural assembly passed a bylaw prohibiting the introduction of alien species in transported earth materials for landfill,” Yoshikawa explained. The [ordinance][6] is a crucial environmental protection: The Ryukyu Islands, the archipelago that makes up what is now Okinawa Prefecture, lies 400 miles south of mainland Japan, with a tropical climate and an array of diverse ecosystems. (Henoko Bay itself contains coral reefs and rare marine populations, including the Okinawa dugong, a [critically endangered][7] manatee relative.) The rule precluded the use of some mainland soil, which, under the previous plan, would likely have been teeming with [invasive species][8].

But the new scheme is legally dubious, too. The site now called Kumano Mine is within Okinawa Senseki (battle site) Quasi-National Park, a property designated for protection by the Japanese central government and maintained, in part, by the Prefecture of Okinawa. Next to the Kumano Mine is Konpaku-no-To, or Konpaku Memorial Tower, a stone monument where 35,000 bodies were interred after the war’s end.

“By protecting the battle site of the south of Okinawa main island, which is well-known as a fierce battlefield between Japan and USA during WWII, we will be aware of the misery caused by war and of the treasure of peace,” notes the prefectural government’s Nature Conservation Division on its [website][9]. “It is the place to pray for more than 200,000 war dead.” The total includes not only the Okinawan civilians who died during the war, but also tens of thousands of Japanese and American soldiers and Korean and Taiwanese conscripts who Japan forced into military service.

After Gushiken approached local media with his findings in November, the Environment Department of Okinawa Prefecture ordered a pause to the development, but the reprieve appears to be short-lived. After a delay of about a month, the mining company submitted a new plan for development to the city of Itoman, and the city notified the prefecture of its approval on January 20. The prefectural government is reportedly ready to accept the plan as well.

The excavation site is located below a wooded area called the Peace Creation Forest, all within the Okinawa Senseki park. “If the collection of earth and sand is realized here, the road leading to the Peace Creation Forest Park would be filled with dump trucks,” wrote local activist group Okinawa Peace Forum in a January 26 [letter][10] to Governor Denny Tamaki. “The slope of the hill of the Peace Creation Forest Park will be scraped off, [and] the scenery surrounding the area will be tremendously destroyed.”

On January 25, the _Japan Times_ published a scoop that enraged peace activists. “The [Japanese] Ground Self-Defense Force and the U.S. Marine Corps reached a secret agreement in 2015 to station a GSDF amphibious unit at the Marines’ Camp Schwab in the Henoko district of Okinawa Prefecture,” the story [read][11]. “The plan has been suspended due to the impasse between Okinawa and the Japanese government over the planned relocation of the Marines’ Air Station Futenma from a densely populated area in Ginowan to the Henoko coastal area of Nago. The GSDF, however, has yet to give up the plan.”

The amphibious unit, in the works since 2006 and [activated in 2018][12], had long been a cause for concern to opponents of Japan’s remilitarization. Japan’s US-imposed constitution forbids the country from maintaining an active military, but increasingly hawkish national governments, including those of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and now Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, have chipped away at this prohibition. The United States has largely supported them. (US Forces Japan and the Japan Ground Self Defense Force did not respond to _The Nation_ ’s requests for comment.)

The _Japan Times_ story confirmed locals’ fears. “We were already imagining the new Henoko base is not only for US forces,” said Yuichi Kamoshita, a Buddhist monk who works with Gushiken and who organized a [petition][13] to protect the remains in Itoman.

For many, the increased presence of the Japanese military awakens traumatic memories and passed-down stories of the Battle of Okinawa. During the three-month conflict, the Japanese army expelled civilians from their homes and drafted Okinawan teenagers into guerrilla warfare efforts—a story explained in Hanayo Oya and Chie Mikami’s 2018 documentary _[Boy Soldiers: The Secret War in Okinawa][14]_. To hide from both the Japanese and American militaries, many Okinawan civilians retreated underground for weeks, often starving to death, committing mass suicide, or being executed by soldiers from the mainland.

Once the independent Ryukyu Kingdom, Okinawa was colonized by Japan after a centuries-long struggle. It was annexed officially in 1879, and starting in 1898, the Japanese government privatized communally owned land and impoverished indigenous families, driving many to emigrate (including my great-grandparents). When World War II came, Japan intentionally concentrated its military in Okinawa, offering the most remote and newest prefecture as a diversion to stave off a US invasion of the mainland. It worked, but the Allied Forces still won, and the United States governed Okinawa from 1951 to 1972.

Despite the revelation of the Japanese Self-Defense Force’s intent to use Camp Schwab—and, almost certainly, the new base as well—the project is still regarded as an offering to the United States. In exchange for the presumed protection of the US military, Japan is footing the bill for the base construction, allowing the US to expand its network of military installations at minimal cost. Local and international opponents believe that the influence of the US government could stop the construction.

“With the Biden administration seemingly more inclined to focus on Indigenous issues in its own country, connecting these issues in the framework of Indigenous rights may be a good idea to direct the attention of the US government to the Henoko project,” Yoshikawa suggested, pointing to Biden’s nomination of Debra Haaland as secretary of the interior.

Gushiken said that he expects to see solidarity from Americans when they learn about the use of human remains for the landfill: “If they hear this story, they will realize this is a humanitarian issue, and they will raise their voices together against the plan.” While we chatted on Zoom, he scribbled on a piece of paper and held it up to the camera. In all caps, it said: “MAY HELLEN.”

He found the name, or names, written on a GI’s mess kit recovered years ago during an excavation at Hacksaw Ridge. Gushiken brings artifacts to classrooms for peace education. “I show that mess kit to kids and tell them that not only Okinawans died during the war. In addition to Okinawan and Japanese, American people’s blood and Korean people’s blood were mixed into the Okinawan soil.”

But to Gushiken, education is a secondary goal. “If we can find a family member of this May person, who is still alive and would like to have the mess kit, I would love to return it,” he said. For the nearly 40 years that Gushiken has pursued his work, his objective has been to identify artifacts and remains and return them to the families of the deceased.

The bones that Gushiken discovered in the fall are still in the ground at what is now Kumano Mine. “As the digging work had not been finished, the bones have been not collected yet,” Kamoshita said. Gushiken has appealed to the Okinawa Defense Bureau, asking its representatives to visit the site and see the remains for themselves. Still lacking a definitive answer, he plans to go on hunger strike in front of the Okinawa Prefecture Government Office Building starting March 1.

“When the Defense Bureau decided to collect earth and sand from the southern part of Okinawa main island, did they know that remains were still there?” Gushiken asked. When the bureaucrats demurred, he added: “As you are not able to answer, that means that you were aware of the fact that remains are there, but still you are trying to go ahead. That means you have lost your human hearts.”

Hiromu Takahashi wins his third consecutive Best Of The Super Juniors, having won last year and in 2018, but was out of 2019's tournament due to his heinous neck injury. This was the longest-ever BOSJ match in the history of the tournament. And really, it's the right call. Hiromu has proven he can headline shows, and be a semi-main-eventer in the Tokyo Dome already. The history and feud between Hiromu and El Desperado adds to the aura of what will surely be the IWGP Juniorheavyweight title match at WK16. YOH, for his part, did himself credit, going through his redemption saga and even getting one over on SHO during the tournament. We'll see when their rubber match comes about. Hirooki Goto wins his 3rd World Tag League crown, whilst YOSHI-HASHI gets his first. All credit to YOSHI-HASHI -- he was never a third wheel on his/Goto/Ishii's NEVER 6-Man reign for the last year, and has finally found a good niche for himself in the company after underachieving for so long compared to others of his Young Lion class (particularly Kazuchika Okada). It's good to see people who work hard succeed even if it takes a long time to do so. Goto/YOSHI-HASHI v. Dangerous Tekkers will be coming soon enough now too. Despite a really down year for NJPW, the Heavyweight tag division has actually fun and interesting to watch in 2021. KENTA appeared via video message to challenge Hiroshi Tanahashi to a No-DQ match for the IWGP US Heavyweight title at WK16, which, OK, sure, sounds fun. KENTA's partner once upon a time, Katsuyori Shibata, appeared in the ring, choking back tears, proclaiming simply that he will have a match on January 4, 2022, and that was all. No details on whom his opponent would be or where on the card this match will take place. It will not be an exhibition match like his 5-minute grappling encounter with Zack Sabre Jr. at the G1 Climax 31 Final. I've said my piece about what I feel about the idea of Shibata returning to wrestling numerous times since April 2017, I'm not going to repeat it here. I just hope he knows what he's doing and he doesn't further damage himself in the process. He's 42 years old at this stage, which by itself isn't exactly a prohibitive factor anymore, but he's not a young man either. Poor Ryohei Oiwa got squashed in under three minutes. We now have a potential three-way challenge for the junior tag titles, between champions Flying Tiger (Tiger Mask IV & Robbie Eagles), Ishimori/ELP and now Taguchi/Master Wato. Be still my beating heart. Will Ospreay has another title belt in his possession, this time whilst actually being champion. (OK he is still RevPro champion as well...) On Sunday in Tinley Park, IL, Ospreay won the Warrior Wrestling championship, in a 3-way match between himself, then-champion Trey Miguel, and Blake Christian. Ospreay proclaimed he will have the title with him at Night 2 of WK16 on 1/5/2022, and is being advertised for Warrior's show in South Bend, IN, on 1/22/2022, against an opponent to be determined. We'll see how long this lasts I guess. You can see Sunday’s show on FITE TV for a fee. The next show is on 12/21/2021, the first night of four for the Road To Tokyo Dome year-end tour. No lineups have been announced yet. Six days' break is the longest gap between shows that we've had in months. Maybe I need a vacation?

Per the cold-open, Amy is ovulating during this episode. Also, Jimmy Jabs are on 6/21.

Continuity: The Masked Singer finale/premiere dates don’t make sense. But the contestant they mentioned didn’t even exist in season 1 of TMS, so it’s excusable.

Continuity: The last scene takes place during “Trying.” Roll with it.

7x04: 6/21/2019

14 days since Rosa last took a vacation—7x02—and a Friday because Amy skips a seminar that was probably wasn’t scheduled for a weekend.

Continuity: Rosa and Jocelyn had apparently been dating “a year” at this point. It was probably shorter than that.

Continuity: This episode most likely takes place before Trying: Jake mentions Amy being more, erm, adventurous now that they’re trying to conceive, and that doesn’t really fit in with the overly-scheduled sex UD-ing that was happening from July 2019 and onwards. Plus, the stress/potential injury that such a competition would bring definitely doesn’t fit in with The Amy Way.

7x05: 6/22-6/23/2019

Debbie steals the cocaine at end of 7x04; assume 7x05 is the day after. The final scene is the day after the rest of the episode.

Continuity: They mention Debbie’s journals from “this year,” and specify that they were written on “August 21.” Assume this means August 2018.

7x06: 6/24/19 - late January 2020  

On the calendars in the war room, “Menstruation” lasts about five days and starts around the 4th of every month; “Ovulation” starts around the 15th of every month and lasts about a week. Amy presumably took a pregnancy test at the very end of every month—not only were these scenes always followed by calendar flips, but she would have to take the tests at least two weeks after ovulation but before she got her period.

The calendar invites/The Jake Way happen in June—so Amy still has to be ovulating at the start of the episode—because they start The Amy Way in July. 

The Amy Way fails for the last time in December. The pregnancy test she takes before Hitchcock announces that his girlfriend is pregnant was late December (around 12/30). The next test she would take—the last scene in the episode—would be late January (around 1/30).

Assuming it isn’t a false positive (which is unlikely, considering her doctor would have double-checked this before putting her on fertility medication), the earliest she can get pregnant would be mid-February.

7x07: lasts about a week and ends mid-March 2020.

Has to be after 2/14 but before 4/12, based on Holt’s uniform changes in Valloweaster. 

It’s very likely that Amy’s just a few weeks pregnant here since she wasn’t suspicious at all until her doctor brought it up; if the hormones messed up her cycle a bit and she got pregnant mid to late-February, she was 3-4 weeks pregnant in this episode and wouldn’t have noticed until taking the test.

Continuity: I’m assuming that the “Ebola Doctor” was Craig Spencer. He contracted the virus in 2014, so “six years ago” makes sense.

7x08: 3/27-3/30/2020.

Since it’s Holt’s first day back, this episode is relatively soon after 7x07, but with a week or two in between to account for paperwork and official promotion procedures. 

Day 1: Friday (The bachelor’s party is over the weekend)

Day 2: Saturday (heist)

Judy’s friends were clearly arrested at nighttime, and that + the change of clothing indicates that Jake and the Judy’s had to have come home the next day.

Day 3: Sunday (Jake comes home)

Day 4: Monday (last scene)

Continuity: The screen on the computer that one of Judy’s men hacks into says “Last Login: March 27 2015.″ Since this episode obviously takes place in 2020, just ignore that.

7x09: ~4/10/2020

Earlier than June—Terry’s kids are still in school (Spring Semester). Also probably(?) a Friday, since Terry’s kids have a concert and it’s unlikely they’ll have one in the middle of the week.

The Friday before Easter (7x11) is April 10.

7x10: Mid-May 2020 (cold open), ~6/17/2020, 6/26/2020-6/27/2020

Cold-Open: pregnancy reveal and end of 1st trimester. 

Day 2: Jake tells his father that they’re having a sex-reveal party “Next Friday,” indicating two Fridays after this day. Therefore, this conversation happened around June 17, 2020 (The Wednesday that is approximately 18 weeks from mid-February).

Day 3: Friday, Day of the party (June 26)

Day 4: Amy finds out; day after Day 3 (June 27)

Continuity: The entirety of 7x11 takes place before this one.

7x11: 10/31/19, 2/14/20, and 4/12-4/13/2020

7x12: Day 1-Day 3, Mid-8/2020

Day 1: Cold Open

Day 2: find cheddar

Day 3: B- and C-plots end

Shakespeare in the Park is usually held in Prospect Park over the summer. Halfway between 7x10 and 7x13 is the end of August; I made it mid-August so it’s still technically “Summer.”

Continuity: Amy’s only 6 months pregnant in this episode and her baby shower is the weekend after. However, in season 5, Gina also had her baby shower at around 5/6 months, so this isn’t unusual for these characters. Plus, this is Amy we’re talking about—she probably had a registry ready to go within days of finding out about the pregnancy. 

7x13: Day 1, late-10/2020. 

The elevator expiry is listed as 12/20/2020 and it was inspected “4 months ago.” elevators in New York are inspected every 6 months, which means that the last inspection was 6/20/2020 and it is now (mid to late-)October. 

Later in the month (10/20/2020* or later) matches up with Amy getting pregnant in mid-February: her due-date would be mid-November, and it makes sense for her to start maternity leave about 3 weeks beforehand. 

Continuity: Amy going on leave so early explains why she didn’t have a maternity bag stashed somewhere in the precinct—we all know that she would have had one had she been working right up to her due date. Also, although Amy’s FOMOW would make her want to stay at the precinct right up until she gave birth, if her doctor recommended her to take rest earlier (which is likely, given how stressful/strenuous her job is…), she would have followed those orders properly.
