I love these friendships where they're like "hey i'm gonna came pick you up in 30 minutes be ready" and we just drive around or sit in a park and you just know they want nothing from you but to spend time with you.

~ beer garden story time ~

I came to this park by myself after my field trip and bought take-out dort and sat down at one of these picnic benches in the famous Letna beer garden.  There were 2 people sitting at the end of the table, a young man and an older woman, speaking English.  I could not figure out their relationship.  They were talking about not hearing much English in the Czech Republic and that it is a nice change to not be able to hear your mother tongue all of the time.  They appeared to be trying to take a selfie, so I said in my English accent, “would you like me to take a photo of the two of you?”  they burst out laughing, and then we started talking.  He is a McGill student who is working in Germany this summer, and stopped in Prague to stay with his Aunt, the older woman, who moved to Prague 2 years ago and now teaches English at a university.  We really hit it off, and ended up talking for hours at that bench.  I had come in only a t-shirt and shorts, and as dusk fell, I was shivering, so I thought I should head home.  But we were having such a good time, the student gave me his sweatshirt so we could keep hanging.  Soon after, their friends were supposed to come and meet up, and when they did, I was worried I would be the odd one out.  But they were also so cool! They worked at the same university as the aunt, and were from India and China, along with another friend who was studying in England.  Such cool and funny people.  It was ~10:30pm when they decided to head out, and invited me to go to a bar with them. This was very unlike me, but I was feeling spontaneous and vibing with them so I agreed!  They knew it was one of my last days here so asked if there were any bars I wanted to czech off my list so I picked Zanzibar.  It was so bougie!  But the drinks were good and conversation qual.  The friends and aunt left, to go to a club and home, so me and the McGill kid banted for a long time, before he had to catch the last metro to his aunt’s place.  I am so glad I got to live that cool study abroad experience of hanging out with strangers haha
