Coding, cat café, sunset, and a long weekend.
Can’t get any better than that, I think.

one thing I really really appreciate abt riz gukgak as a character is that he is un-self-aware to the max. he inhabits his body so completely. the arc that would usually be run as "I'm different and unable to connect with my friends in this way that everyone seems to be able to do and so something's wrong with me and I don't like myself" when it comes to riz is actually like no! I have literally no problems or praises for myself personally. I don't stand outside of my own self and judge it. it's phrased as "other people will eventually find someone more important to them than you" rather than centering it on his self-perception. he doesn't know why he doesn't have the best social life on earth even though he's not afraid at all to talk to other people. every time he sees himself in someone else's actions or behaviour he gets startled by it. his latest epilogue is realizing seemingly for the first time that he's not just an agent of causes but an actual character. he's my hero and I want to be him when I grow up

Thinking about how Leo says he uses his jokes to cope and y’know, thinking harder on it I think it may very well be because of what else uses one-liners and puns and that type of humor.
Specifically, 80’s action movies and campy sci-fi. Even more specifically, the protagonists of these.
So I can imagine why, exactly, Leo leans toward this brand of humor. It’s directly linked to things he loves! But even more than that is why I think it’s used as a coping mechanism.
In these genres, these quips tend to be said by the winner - or, if not a winner, then someone who will stay alive. So there’s a confidence behind them, an assurance, almost, that even if things go wrong, things aren’t ever too serious. There’s no bad endings here! It’s all good fun, even if the stakes seem high.
Leo canonically has been known to steer his brothers away from the more brutal villains and toward more fun, lighthearted activities and not-so-dangerous criminals. So for Leo, these jokes definitely make things less heavy, make the situations they find themselves in less intense.
It’s kinda not just coping, but also can be seen as a form of escapism. A safety blanket. A way for Leo to defuse the tension of knowing just how dangerous their lives are and replace that with a levity which implies that things will be okay.
Unfortunately, levity alone does not alter reality.

Christmas List Erased Day 17: Gingerbread Construction worker Howie! Ngl, I'd love a 3 hour audio track of Howie detailing how to build a gingerbread house, cycling between citing baking steps like safety laws and yelling at people off-screen.
Like I'd prolly pay money for Justice saying things like:
"Alright, now that everyone has there necessary safety equipment, each of you are gonna have to follow my orders explicitly. We ran out of all the white frosting after that stinkin' kid ran in her and drank it all, so we're only left with yellow. Now I know in that context this may be seen as humorous, but we're being paid to build, not laugh. Trixie, your gonna hand me building materials as I plaster the walls together. Molly, I need you to make sure everything is level, because if even a crumb is outta place then this all might come out of our materials budget. Pheonica, you shoul- ..... a... are you EATIN' all our SUPPORT BEAMS?!?....... Trixie, I'm going to need a few drainage rocks"
Trixie: "Your mean the Coco puffs or the Fruity pebbles?"
Howie: "Hand me the PEBBLES"

The funniest moment in 3x07 is when Mabel has a breakthrough with the case, and starts pacing as she's theorising, walking away from Theo - who makes this face -
This is the 1000 yard stare of a man who has accepted the fact that Mabel will always keep forgetting that he's deaf.

Skulduggery Pleasant, Skeleton Detective, and Valkyrie Cain, perfectly normal teenager and also harbinger of the apocalypse. Or apocalypses. It all depends on the point of view, really, and anyway it isn't really her fault.
