I'll do a collection of my favorite first lines since I plan on doing almost a re-write of parts of The Revenged for my second draft.

The Revenged:

The silence, save for the sounds of their knives and forks, hung heavy in the air of the dinning hall as Shuntala and her mother ate their evening meal.

The music swirled around Shuntala and mixed with the voices of the guests.

The sun glinted off the small swells and Shuntala squinted as she searched the water, her body swaying with the rhythm of the ship.

Shuntala was already awake when the thunk of boots finally came towards the door separating her from the rest of the small, dangerous world she now lived in.

Shuntala gaped at the ship, her heart hammering as she took in the first-rate vessel that gleamed in the sunlight.

And They Were Roommates:

The moment he met Jayme Matthews, Takashti knew the administration had completely disregarded his dorm application.

Cris lazily watched as Takashti checked a patron out, his business-like smile slightly more entertaining than the bokoblins in her game.

A few short stories:

Cadeyrn Wulff prided himself on his country, his family’s legacy, and the fact he hadn’t fallen apart yet. (Cadeyrn)

Jayme marveled at the colors and glittery fabrics as he ran a hand over part of Nim’s collection of clothes. (Identity)

Takashti’s honey eyes moved hypnotically like a pendulum, the words on the page soothing his frayed nerves. (Vexed)

“This is my friend Steve. I ran into him walking the dog. His parents are out of town.” Deanna looked at him sharply. “They left you alone?”  “Uh, yeah,” he said. “But they left me money and stuff. It’s fine.”  “You were going to spend Thanksgiving alone?” she asked. Steve nodded and Deanna wiped her hands on a towel. “Tammy, add another place setting.”

“Did he hurt you?” he asked, eyes glancing down her body. “Who? David? I’m fine. He won’t be though if I ever catch up to him again.” She glared at Paul. He had taken her away just when she was going to start getting her point across.  “Dwayne. Did he hurt you?” He seemed abnormally serious from how she knew him.

This Means War - Daredevil and The Punisher

Billy pulls back for a moment, eyes going over her face as though he’s trying to memorize every feature. She grabs the back of his neck, moving him down to kiss her again. Anything to keep him from looking at her like that.

Serendipity - John Wick

Staying in New York probably isn't a good idea. Not when they’re out for his blood. Still, it’s home. At least the one place he’s lived the longest. He has memories here and he knows the ground well. He doesn’t want to be driven out.  John goes to Aurelio. He doesn’t really have anyone else he can trust anymore. He shouldn’t even be here but he’s known Aurelio for years and the man told him that if he needed help, to ask. So John’s asking.

A Study in Intimacy - Divergent

All in all, after the final test, Eric passes. He is Erudite.  It is a relief but it is only when he sees Jeanine’s face as she welcomes him fully into Erudite that he feels like he can breathe. Her expression is trying hard not to be pinched especially when he says loudly that it is all because of her and that he hopes he can continue to make her proud. Her grip tightens almost painfully at that, but everyone is watching and all she can do is smile. He can't push her too hard. Even if he wants to...right off of a cliff. 

It's Always Darkest Before the (Second) Dawn - Shadow and Bone /HP

She glances at the other men in the room. This is not part of her plan. She wants answers. However, judging from the look on Ivan’s face, the clench of his jaw and the blatant disregard on Kirigan, she knows she’s unlikely to get them now. She takes his arm. “Certainly.”

“He agreed to be friends,” I said. “Just friends.”  “Good,” she said. “That’s...good. Right?”  “Yeah.”  “Well, as someone who was friends with Sam while you two were having your...weird sexual tension last year, he’s a good friend to have.” “You guys were friends?”  She looked at me unimpressed and rolled her eyes. “Yes. What? Did you think Dean and I were going at it like rabbits 24/7?”  I shrugged and hesitantly made a noise of agreement. “Oh my god Michelle!”   “What? You go at it enough here!”  “We do not!” “I’m sorry, but have I not walked in on you multiple times?” “Learn how to knock!” “It was the living room!” 

Untitled - Jujutsu Kaisen

“I thought you said we were avoiding the country?” she asks herself softly.  “There’s no choice,” the voice echos back. “Better we deal with him now and find whoever’s helping him.”  “And then what?” She shoves her hands in her pocket. Her headphones are covering her ears, helping it look like she’s just on a call.  “We deal with them.”  She sighs. “Yeah, I thought you’d say that. So what’s the plan?”  “Stay hidden,” it says. “Until it’s too late.” “For them,” she agrees. “You sure no one will sense you?”  “They never have. They’ve forgotten about me.” “Well, not for long I guess,” she says.  “We will remind them.”

"Fae M-" - Undecided, Maybe Shadow and Bone

It’s not a lie. She meant no harm…mainly to herself. What she stole was retaliation. They tried to steal hers first.  “Are you bound only by a contract?” She asks. “Or are you bound fully?” Her meaning would make sense to those who know. She needs to see exactly what he understands and who his loyalty is sworn to.  “You’ve gotten yourself into something deep,” he says. He avoids the question which tells her that at least he knows the type that has contracted him.  “So have you.”

Reality is Fictional - Multiple Fandoms

“What’s your name?” Helen asks softly.  Her eyes snap up at Helen. She still doesn’t know where she is or what happened. She doesn’t trust this. So she gives them a name that she’ll remember, one that she remembers reading about before she left on that date. A name of a woman who was left for dead. “Ariadne,” she says. It oddly fits.

A bit sad the main lines are visible only as a wip, most of this thing is literally just a ton of sharp lines

I think it's also my first day of drawing, Loop is just a sketch here (feat. my leg)

I even finished the beans before it so they were a moral support, because if you let me things like this take a year

nemona feels like an obscure blorbo instead of the main rival character from the latest pokemon game because to get to her really good content from people who really get it, you first have to wade through the ocean of yandere pervert obsessive stalker annoying punchable bimbo amazon goddess interpretations of...

... a neurodivergent and possibly disabled high schooler who's desperately trying to make any friends or get any support from her rich neglectful family - while everyone in her school is jealous of their own imagined version of a privileged asshole version of her they made up - who deeply and platonically loves and supports the one new kid who agreed to take the time to get to know and respect her and her special interest without having to hold back her true self

unlike her, it's not great!

kinda feels like she has the same problem in our world that she does in hers.

Realizing I've accidentally created an extra character layer for how Gortash presents himself—

This normally happens in 1482, but in moving the death of Gorion's Ward up to 1456 in my own fic canon, for me it happens much closer to then. (It wouldn't be Torlin as pictured, he would have been too young then for me, but maybe an ancestor of his?)

I have Gortash born around 1450, so this is the Baldur's Gate he would have grown up in as a child before going to the hells. People were literally having jewels ripped off their clothes or lace collars cut off, if they weren't born into nobility!!

Hmm, the birth of an extra layer of hereditary patriar resentment right there (and no wonder he goes on to wear so much gold)

COLD IS BETTER THAN HUNGER (not posted yet)

I slide my body across the cold sheet. I search the bed for something warm, I search for Prim. But she is not here. I force my eyes open to look for her, and there she is. Her blonde hair shining with the light of dawn, that enters through the skylight. She is under a heavy duvet, sleeping holding onto our mother. She must have also gotten cold in the middle of the night and went to our mother’s bed.

Casual (second chapter/not posted yet)

It's probably the dim lighting in the bar that makes Katniss seem like an otherworldly being. Peeta watched her undo her braid with her fingers and let her long black hair fall down her back. There’s something lighting her gaze today. A bright, smoky haze around her gray eyes. When she blinks, her eyelids light up. She looks just great.

The Flower and the Willow (not posted yet)

The linen was woven and made into a fabric, embroidered in golden threads, decorated with delicate lace patterns, cut with sharp scissors, rummaged and pulled to my size and then sewn just to fit me. So, I can say is mine, and only mine.

The lucky day

The silent winter makes the noisy spring even more exciting to hear. Birds singing and cicadas chirping along with the crickets. It's the sound of life, and for me it's the sound of money

Almost there

My beard was shaved with hot wax once again. Not that I had much, but I was proud of the fine layer of blond fuzz that had grown during the fall. Slowly, it was getting better. Not like my older brother, who was already capable of growing a mustache, nor like my father who had a beard spread all over his cheeek and neck. But it was something, or almost getting to something.

(Re)liability: Rebirth. Restructure. Restore. Relearn. Rejoice. // Those are the Five Rs, the pillars of New Panem. President Paylor and her cabinet wasted no time sharing their plans for the country. Rebirth as a new nation.

Please Stay: Katniss. // Her name rang through his head, managing to break through the aggressive clicks from the beetles they were fighting.

Double Date: “What can I say? College football days should always be the best days of a man’s life. Now your best days can be listening to me talk about them.”

Muscle Memory: Baking came easily. // Dr. Aurelius ensured that Peeta’s kitchen was stocked for his return to Twelve.

I only have four published works and one WIP that has not been published at all yet so I will just do those! All of these are The Last Kingdom, and all revolve around Aldhelm.

Springtime in Saltwic: "Tensions were running high after King Alfred’s passing, and Aethelflaed could feel the low rumbling of chaos start to spread in the minds of the men around her."

Calm Before the Storm: "The ride back to Mercia was grim."

Loyal Guardian: "One of the many things discussed at the witenagemot following Aethelred’s coronation was the relocation of the Mercian capital from Tameworthig to Aegelesburg."

Darkest Before the Dawn: "The humid night air was cooling from the heat of the day, and a thin fog had started to rise from the damp earth."

The Wolf and the Wild Boar (WIP, not published yet): "Brynhild shivered in the small lean-to situated in an alcove underneath the tree roots of an old oak deep in the forest."

Conclusion: I tend to use a descriptive opening? I suppose...

I currently have 5 unrevealed challenge works and I considered waiting, but let's be honest, I will forget by the time the author reveals happen in another week. So, I guess, watch this space if you're curious about any of those! For now, here are my last 10 works that are actually viewable!

Flirtin' With Disaster (The Closer: Brenda/ Sharon, 12 chapters, M)

Things with Fritz end just about as smoothly as they can, but it’s still hard. He threatens to start drinking again if Brenda leaves him, and she reminds him (as well as herself) that it’s not her responsibility to keep him sober.

2. Not Today (The Closer: Brenda/ Sharon, 250 words, T)

Brenda lightly kisses Sharon's fingertips one by one until the brunette stirs enough for Brenda to slide out of her arms. Sharon knows what she's doing. She wants to hold on tighter, but instead she feigns sleep and lets go.

3. Jankom Pog CanNOT Fix It (Star Trek Prodigy: Dal R'El & Jankom Pog, one-shot, G)

"Jankom! Have you seen this?" Dal exclaimed, crashing through the door of their shared quarters so loudly that Jankom nearly fell out of his chair.

4. When the Rain Washes You Clean You'll Know (ST Voyager: Janeway/Chakotay, one-shot, G)

The blankets on her bed were flimsy protection at best, but still Kathryn huddled beneath them as the rain pounded the side of the building, thunder and lighting crashing and flashing in quick succession.

5. I Could Drink a Case of You (ST Voyager/TNG: Beverly Crusher/ Kathryn Janeway, one-shot, T)

Kathryn steps onto the holodeck and into a program she has never seen before. The air is damp with morning dew, the landscape lush and green, and there’s a small house with a garden, stuffed to the brim with flowers and herbs she doesn’t recognize. She’s never seen it before, but she knows immediately where she is. Not that it matters; she’s here for a person, not a program.

6. Beautiful Disaster (The Closer: Brenda/ Sharon, 3 chapters, T)

No police officer ever wants to fire their weapon. No good police officer, anyway. And Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson, despite a myriad of other failings, is a good police officer.

7. Work/Life Balance (The Closer: Brenda/ Sharon, one-shot but fun fact: I'm currently working on several new chapters!, T)

It’s not unheard of for one or both of them to catch a case in the middle of the night, and so far, it hasn’t ever been for the same case.

8. What You're Willing To Overlook (The Closer: Brenda/ Sharon, fluff-spring drabble series, T)

“I find that good relationships sometimes depend... on what you're willing to overlook.” Sharon said softly, her hand on Brenda’s arm. Brenda’s arm tingled where Sharon’s hand made contact and suddenly, right there in the bullpen, surrounded by her team, their eyes met and a realization hit Brenda like a lightning bolt.

9. Time Stands Still (Doctor Who: Fourteen & Donna Noble, fluff-spring drabble series, G)

The TARDIS fit perfectly in the Noble-Temple back yard. It complimented the style of Rose’s shed - or maybe it was the other way around - and no one ever asked questions when it just showed up there one day and stayed.

10. Not So Secret Admirer (The Closer: Brenda/ Sharon, one-shot, G)

“You and Agent Howard patching things up, Chief?” Flynn asked, knocking on the door frame as he let himself in to Brenda’s office. “Now what would give you that idea, Lieutenant?” Brenda asked without looking up from her paperwork. “Well, someone out there must be trying to impress you,” he chuckled. “Special delivery,” he added, placing the vase of roses on her desk, right on top of the paperwork where they couldn’t be ignored.
