Over the last week the Lukola fans in my chat groups as well as those sharing thoughts in my live streams, or those sending me DMs, have been expressing the same thing: exhaustion! They (heck... me too. We!) are tired and feeling a whole lot of frustration. Some quotes:

"I feel like we're all here trying to defend Nicola and Luke, trying to fight off all the negative propaganda being put out by the Jakolas and trolls, and all the while Nicola is the one feeding much of the {front facing} narrative. I'm tired and discouraged." "I believe they're together - 100% I do - but I'm tired of not knowing for sure and it's annoying to spend so much time worrying about a couple that may only come clean years from now, or if they get papped." Yet we also laughed at the ironic humour in Nicola as a "Shit Stirrer"; the primary distributor (and organizer of other distributors, with Shonda's & JVN's help sometimes) of breadcrumbs, morsels and golden nuggets! The breadcrumbs are so much fun to find, and they can also be confusing and frustrating! Shit stirrer indeed. Xx

Nicola also has ruffled some feathers because of her political and social beliefs (support of the LGBTQ community [Gay Icon!] and abortion rights in Northern Ireland), humanitarian work. From my perspective, GOOD work! To others who perhaps have a vested interest in the status quo? Shit stirrer indeed. Xx

Yes, we Lukola fans know that Nicola and Luke don't owe us anything and that privacy is their right. We also know that Tomdaya took years before they acknowledged their relationship publicly. We should be prepared for the long haul, yes? Yes. 🥴 Le sigh.

As we enter into a new year I know the question for me will be how much of my time, energy and heart will I place into all things Lukola? Over the next week or so I'll think about the wonderful connections I've made in our Lukola community (and the angst I've experienced because of divisions)... I'll think about how fun breadcrumb speculation is, how I relish the hunt for golden nuggets (those solid truths that are ballast for our ship)... and of course the enthusiasm (and agony) that I feel for the ongoing watch for launch.

Today I'm feeling tired and at times, discouraged. My plan is to relax, reassess and come to 2025 with a fresh mindset. No obsession... just patience and fun will be the aim... and keeping up with this blog too.

Will you be on the ship with me in 2025? Or will Nicola and Luke launch before the New Year and save us all from the misery?! Ha!!

Would you recommend the SSSS comic? I know little of it beside the very beautiful artstyle and premise

to answer the question of if i would recommend SSSS as a comic: yes, yes i would.

a description for those who don't know: Stand Still Stay Silent is a post-apocalyptic horror + adventure webcomic set in the nordics (norway, sweden, denmark, finland, iceland) that have been isolated from the rest of the world and gone back to their old gods. the the world outside of safe zones is full of trolls and beasts - humans and mammals that got infected by a horrible virus and turned into monsters. the story follows a ragtag crew that ventures into the old world (derelict denmark) on an expedition to collect books.

the comic updated every workday until it concluded in 2022, and consists of two Adventures. the creator had plans for many adventures with these characters in this world, but ended it after two when she wanted to take a new direction with her life.

what i love about it:

- the art is GORGEOUS. it's been a huge source of inspiration for me. open any page and it's a masterpiece, and you will ask yourself "how the FUCK did she update this FIVE DAYS A WEEK"

- the characters are wonderful and endearing. i just, i love them so much. i am so thankful lalli hotakainen exists he is one of my #1 blorbos forever

- the world is so cool. the blend of chunky sci-fi and norse mythology fantasy magic slaps. it goes so hard. i fell so hard for this comic when i got to the big ferry ship with a viking style dragon head prow added to it. it's everything

- it really really gets nordic cultures. it's difficult to explain all the dynamics and nuances but it just gets it. it brings me as a scandinavian a lot of joy to read a story that speaks to my heart this way. the attitudes, the language barriers, the cultural differences... it was so refreshing to me in a media landscape dominated by american stories. when the pandemic hit, i decided to reread the comic because i found such an odd comfort in seeing how it depicted the scandinavian countries reacting to, well, a pandemic.

- there's kittycats

what i don't like about it:

- the most glaring and obvious flaw is that everyone in the comic is white. there's not a single character of color anywhere, not even i background shots or the prologue. there's no mention of the saami people (the indigenous people of northern europe), either. i believe this was done in ignorance more than malicious intent, but the implications are Extremely Bad and it's been bothering me (AND MANY OTHERS) since day 1. that is the number one caveat i will give to anyone wanting to check this comic out. i've been in the discourse trenches and i am not going to excuse this. it's just bad!

- you can tell in the middle of adventure 2 that the creator has kind of lost interest in the work, around the time when she found jesus i guess. like, very few people can keep up work on the same creative project for years and years and years and i think it's fine that she wanted to drop it, but it's a bit sad to see the comic dragged to its end like a limp corpse, and feeling like the creator no longer really cares about the characters.

- minna sundberg has said and done some questionable things, presumably gotten somewhat radicalised over time, and has also converted to hardcore christianity which is what her new works are about. there's nothing about this in SSSS - there is a moment of christianity represented in the story in a sort of mythological sense, just like the other religions, but this was written before minna's conversion. her new works... are a Choice. i have much to say about them, and i have, and im not gonna rehash it now.

SO YEAH hopefully this will help you take an Informed Choice! i got into this comic in 2015 and was deep in the fandom and it's for better or for worse part of my soul foundation now.

i also recommend A Redtail's Dream, minna's "practice comic" before SSSS, based on finnish mythology and the kalevala.

JKR is transphobic. She has used her platform to spread misinformation and personal attacks on trans people and women with unconfirmed DSD. She should absolutely be held accountable for that. That contradicts her feminism. But I don’t agree on your point about the books.

Yeah because the main character is male and the story is from his perspective so of course it focused on his friendships. 

Yes, we get to see mild friendships like Luna and Ginny or Hermione and Ginny.

Luna is a character who is ostracized and bullied. She doesn’t have any friends until the DA so her friendship with Ginny and Hermione isn’t mild. She has a mural of their faces on her ceiling. That’s how meaningful they are. 

 Why couldn’t Hermione have a group of girlfriends she hung out with when the boys got annoying?? Couldn’t she have a female friend or two that she really got along with?

This is an essential part of Hermione’s story. She starts book 1 as shy, nerdy, and not having friends. After the troll incident she has a connection with Harry and Ron. She doesn’t have connections with girls intentionally because it brings her and the boys closer. JKR wrote her based on her own experiences of being plain and bookish and not having that make for popularity in school. 

We know Ginny is popular and I’m assuming Lily was somewhat popular too, who are their friends then (don’t say Neville and Luna because she had to have more friends than that! And I refuse to believe Snape was Lily’s only friend)?? Why wasn’t there any mention about Harry’s godmother?? Did Molly really never have any friends to let off some steam? The same thing with Tonks and Fleur?? Why couldn’t Hermione have a group of girlfriends she hung out with when the boys got annoying?? Couldn’t she have a female friend or two that she really got along with?

Again this series of from Harrys perspective. There is a lot we don’t know about these characters because he isn’t around to see it. Ginny is in a different year than Harry so it’s not like there’s any reason for him to interact with her friends. Also yeah she’s popular but most people only have a few friends who are true intimate real friendships so saying Neville and Luna isn’t irrelevant. 

Lily is seen is a couple of flashbacks that were Snape’s memories so it’s biased to only show them. There’s no evidence that he has a godmother. Would be nice if he did but having a godparent that wasn’t in prison would’ve led to him not being raised by the Dursleys which fundamentality changes the story. 

Molly is only seen when she is around Harry and when Harry is there she is also raising her children. Ask any stay at home mother with 7 kids who lives in the middle of the country if they have an active social life. We do not see how she spends her time when the kids are at school because it’s not Harry’s purview. 

Fleur is only even seen as the champion and bill fiancé. Would it have been nice to give her more of a backstory, yes, but it’s not relevant to Harry’s story. 

Tonks is the same as being seen through the lens of an auror and an order member because that is how she interacts with Harry. 

HP is a misogynistic series written by a self proclaimed feminist.

The women in Harry Potter are not myopic. They are allowed to not just fit into a single mold of womanhood. They are nerdy, brave, traumatized, optimistic, strong, fragile, good, evil, kind, cruel, conflicted, beautiful, plain, ugly, rational, or dreamers. 

We see them grieve, betray, rebel, make friendships, walk away from them, fight, lose, kill to protect and kill out of cruelty. We see them as sporty, frilly, ambitious and we see them evolve and grow up. 

I get that hating on JKR is standard practice and it breaks my heart to see who she has become but these books are such a part of how I and a lot of people grew up and a lot of these female characters are inspirations.

Something for people online on any site to keep in mind as we get close to Nov and US elections is to be mindful of PSYOPs

Its been well documented for a long long time that several groups ranging from foreign governments to racist billionaires try to influence other countries elections particularly through social media.

Here are a few good rules of thumb as you peruse social media.

• Fact check sources. Often times if a claim seems outlandish, terrifying, or is designed to get you angry verify its legitimacy. This can be done through fact checking websites or independent media sources.

• Only register or verify your voter registration through your state governments election site. Some states may have differing laws but one scam we saw musk on twitter do was create a false registration site. To keep your information private from third parties only use your state government website. Also actively check your voter registration status as many states are either purging or threatening to purge voter rolls.

• Ignore polls. Its very easy for junk polls to be pushed in social media particularly by right-wing groups (we saw this in 2022) and they are actively attempting to demoralize you. Tune it out. Polls don't vote, people vote. And not a single vote has been cast yet.

• In a similar vein above avoid doomscrolling. Blocking is your friend. If you see a troll or bot, report, block, and move on. Don't actively look for upsetting news. First off seeing point 1 a lot of it isn't true and contributes to demoralization. It doesn't help to over-analyze something being pushed by a bot specifically to upset you.

• If you aren't certain about a candidate's position on something fact check or look for their policy page. A lot of stuff gets spread on social media smearing candidates on an issue they may have an opposite viewpoint on. Again partly a tactic to demoralize voters.

• Keep positive, calm, and vote. At the end of the day regardless of where you vote, your vote matters. Whether it is as a presidential level or any the local level you have a chance to influence the nation, state, or your community's direction and that matters. And no one has a say in what you do with your vote at the ballot box.

• Finally when you see friends, family, co-workers, followers, and etc. post biased or false social media reach out to them and help set things straight. Obviously some people will resist you but a lot of the time people are well meaning and repost/reblog something incorrect.

Reminder to check your states voter registration deadlines, vote early, and help GOTV in other ways. lets do this.

The knowledge itself that is taught in Russian schools are fine, but Russian's education system is at least half a century obsolete. I'm pretty sure this info has been taught to us in geography classes, I just must've slept on it because

1) I have difficulty focusing

2) hated learning in school, because again, the way the knowledge is taught makes both teachers and students suffer.

So the premise was that, y'know how in HP there's dragons and a couple are Scandinavian? Norweigen Eidgeback, Sweedish Shoetsnout. And Denmark has a magical government. Finland the personification also probably has some magic because of the whole santa thing, and just becuase tou can't see norway's trolls doesn't mean you don't know Hp magic cuz even muggles can see that stuff. So let's assume countries could see HP magic, just not always do it themselves. And i would hope they know about their magical governmwnts except maybe America who is in denial. Pony in the Studio: The Music of “It’s Pony”

Wow, uh, this is the first ever music review I ever wrote! And although I love music and have been listening to it all of my life – and also amassed a huge vinyl and CD collection – even still it might be hard for me to do at least a great review/retrospective because I’m not really an expert on doing such. But as a fan of and very supportive of one of my favorite animated series, I do think its music is a very underappreciated aspect of it, and that’s why I want to bring attention to it.

It’s Pony has a great underscore and also at times delves into various sounds and even different music genres, thanks to its composer Mike Rubino.  The central themes for the series often use twangy country music considering that the stars of the series, Annie and Pony and their family, are farmers and run an urban farm. Its laid back nature gives off a soothing vibe. This also applies to the series’ theme song, composed and performed by Jon Wygens. Some of the biggest and most popular Nicktoons, from Ren and Stimpy to SpongeBob SquarePants to The Loud House, mainly use stock music that you may hear in other series. It’s Pony’s music, by contrast, gets creative and fits the mood and scenes which will be explained later. And the best part: it’s performed by live musicians. (Another great example of a Nicktoon using live musicians for a series underscore is Harvey Beaks, which utilized a Seattle-area symphony orchestra.)

Some time after I noticed the series’ music and fell in love with it, I was asking for Nickelodeon to release a soundtrack album. I thought that considering that It’s Pony wasn’t as popular as the most popular Nicktoons that receive several soundtrack releases. But lo and behold, Nick actually did it, first with It’s Pony – The Best of Season 1, released in November 2021! Again, I thought they wouldn't do it, but was still surprised that they did. Nick followed up with It’s Pony – The Best of Season 2 in May 2022 during the day of the series finale. I think these releases were being done because in recent months Nickelodeon announced that they’re returning to the music business full time with soundtrack and single releases and original artists. They later signed a deal with UMG Recordings and the releases will be licensed to UMG label Republic’s newly created Republic Kids and Family division. Before the deal, Nick had independently released some soundtracks, EPs and single releases at an increasing rate from properties including The Loud House, Middlemost Post, The Barbarian and the Troll, and It’s Pony, presumably to test the waters.  The network had a record label called Nickelodeon Records many years ago. However, Nick never promoted the It’s Pony albums, leaving fans like me to promote the album and trying to have as many people to be aware of their existence. The releases themselves are just that good.

  As mentioned earlier, the music of It’s Pony features songs and the score of various genres and feels and they are also greatly represented on the albums. They range from the silly and whimsical (“Magic Annie” from the episode of the same name), to funk (“Love at Fish Sight”, from “School Dance”), to line dancing (“Line Dance of Destruction” from “Never Take Advice from a Pony”), to boogie (“Holiday Boogie” from “Bramley Holiday”), to video game music (“Scatterblood Gutloose” from “Game Pony”), to powerful (“Hero Horse” from “Bad Chicken), to heroic (“Unlikely Heroes” from “The Wallet”), to swing (“Get Yourself to Pickleton”, from “Annie’s Voice”), to the mysterious (“Lakey Loos”, from “The Lakey Loos”), to techno (“Underground Dance Off”), to spooky (“Night-Mares” from “Scarecrow”), and everywhere in between. (That’s a lot!) That’s pretty much the main reason why I love the music of It’s Pony – there’s something for every mood or scene. And I’m a music lover, so I really appreciate all the hard work that totally paid off!

Season 1’s album has a mix of songs and score throughout, while season 2’s album starts with songs first then the scores. Note that the titles for both albums contain the words “best of” as not all scores from every episode appear. I’m kinda disappointed realizing that the music from “Annie vs. Pony” that’s so boss when Pony battles his “pet” is not on season 2’s album, and I may have forgotten a few others.

  It’s Pony – a wonderful series with wonderful music! I’m glad that there are albums from the animated series.  Nickelodeon may not do this, but although I have digital downloads of both I would love to see a vinyl release. Maybe the discs will be colored vinyl!

Speaking of scams, maybe the US should stop funding a genocide and the performative Hollywood crowd should grow a proper spine, show everyone what they actually stand for and use the privilege that taking everyone's money has bought them and actually get on the right side of history instead of using it as a form of PR when it suits them

Rights advocates and legal experts have welcomed the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) decision ordering Israel to take “all measures within its power” to prevent acts that could amount to genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

While it stopped short of explicitly demanding a ceasefire, the top court of the United Nations on Friday acknowledged there is a plausible risk of genocide in the bombarded Palestinian enclave and refused to dismiss the case brought by South Africa.

“It’s a huge defeat for Israel — one of the biggest defeats … in the past 75 years,” said Raed Jarrar, advocacy director at Democracy for the Arab World Now (DAWN), a think tank in Washington, DC.

But the ruling “goes beyond Israel” alone, Jarrar told Al Jazeera, as it highlights countries’ legal and political obligations to take action to prevent the alleged genocide unfolding in Gaza.

The ICJ’s decision in The Hague also spurred renewed calls to suspend weapons transfers to the Israeli government, which advocates say amount to complicity and violate international law. That includes arms shipments from the United States, Israel’s foremost backer.

“It’s a watershed moment where the United States government is put on notice that they cannot continue their blank-cheque policies with Israel,” Jarrar said.

“The US can’t and should not continue its arms transfers with Israel now.”

Not a ‘goodwill gesture’

The US provides at least $3.8bn in military aid to Israel annually. For years, rights advocates and a growing number of US lawmakers have called on Washington to condition that assistance on Israel’s human rights record and international law.

However, US President Joe Biden has rejected those efforts while bolstering assistance to the Israeli government.

After Israel began the Gaza war on October 7, following an attack by Hamas that killed more than 1,100 people in southern Israel, the Biden administration sent a request to Congress to approve a $14bn foreign aid package for Israel, the bulk of which would be military assistance.

The US government also twice bypassed Congress to provide thousands of artillery shells to the country as it continued to bombard Gaza. Israeli attacks have killed more than 26,000 Palestinians to date and decimated the coastal territory.

Yet, despite reports and investigations that showed US weapons were used in Israeli bombings that killed Palestinian civilians in Gaza, attempts to pressure Washington to end the transfers or determine whether the arms are being deployed in rights abuses have failed.

“We have been telling the Biden administration that this is not just a goodwill gesture” to end the transfer of weapons to Israel, said DAWN’s Jarrar, explaining that Washington has obligations under international and US law.

“This is something that they have to think about very seriously because the United States as a government is implicated in these war crimes, and US officials are also implicated,” Jarrar said. “They have to take today’s order [from the ICJ] very seriously.”

International treaties

Rights groups have called on all UN member-states to suspend their transfers of weapons that “can be used to commit violations of international humanitarian and human rights law” in Gaza.

Among other countries, Canada and the United Kingdom faced growing pressure on Friday following the ICJ’s decision. Both nations are state parties to the Arms Trade Treaty, a UN pact that seeks to regulate the flow of weapons globally and prevent them from being used in violations of international law and human rights.

It prohibits parties from greenlighting arms transfers “if [they have] knowledge at the time of authorization that the arms or items would be used in the commission of genocide, crimes against humanity, grave breaches of the Geneva Conventions of 1949, attacks directed against civilian objects or civilians protected as such, or other war crimes”.

The UK has licensed more than 474 million pounds ($602m) worth of military exports to Israel since 2015, according to Human Rights Watch (HRW), and it “provides approximately 15% of the components in the F-35 stealth bomber aircraft currently being used in Gaza”.

Pressed on UK arms exports to Israel in November, Defence Secretary Grant Shapps said the country’s “defence exports to Israel are relatively small — just 42 million pounds [$53m] last year”. The weapons also “go through a very strict criteria before anything is exported”, Shapps said, according to a parliamentary transcript.

But on Friday, Yasmine Ahmed, the UK director at HRW, said the ICJ’s provisional order should push the UK government to “halt arms exports to Israel with immediate effect”. “There is NO question,” she wrote on social media.

“The Court found a plausible risk of genocide & the UK has an obligation to prevent genocide & not be complicit.”

That obligation stems from the UN’s 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide — commonly known as the Genocide Convention. The US, the UK and Canada are among 153 countries that are parties to the treaty.

It confirms “that genocide, whether committed in time of peace or in time of war, is a crime under international law which they undertake to prevent and to punish”.

South Africa invoked this “obligation to prevent genocide” when it brought its case to the ICJ, and the court on Friday recognised that it had standing under the Genocide Convention. The treaty also states that “complicity in genocide” is punishable.

“If you’re supplying arms to a country where you know the arms may be used for criminal purposes, then you may become complicit in those crimes,” said Geoffrey Nice, a UK lawyer who led the prosecution of Slobodan Milosevic at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.

“And it’s very hard not to become complicit after a certain stage of knowing is reached and after a certain stage of conduct continues,” Nice told Al Jazeera in a television interview on Friday.

“Arms suppliers would have to be very, very careful – and some may simply decide it’s not worth the risk of being brought into a humiliating, serious, possible investigation for crime.”

‘No other option’ but to suspend arms exports

Most countries also have their own regulations around weapons exports.

For example, Canada’s Export and Import Permits Act obliges the minister of foreign affairs to “deny exports and brokering permit applications for military goods and technology … if there is a substantial risk that the items would undermine peace and security”.

The minister should also deny exports if they “could be used to commit or facilitate serious violations of international humanitarian and human rights laws” or in “serious acts of gender-based violence or serious acts of violence against women and children”.

Last year, Canada exported 21.3 million Canadian dollars ($15.7m) worth of weapons to Israel.

Canadian antiwar group Project Ploughshares said in a recent report that Canada-made components transferred to the US also eventually end up being supplied to the Israeli military, including components used in F-35 aircraft.

“Because the vast majority of Canadian military exports to the United States are neither regulated nor reported, exact volumes and values of these exports are not available to the public and remain unknown,” the report said.

Michael Bueckert, vice president of the advocacy group Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East, said Canada has been sending weapons to Israel “for many years despite significant human rights violations and war crimes”.

But the gravity of those transfers has increased significantly after the ICJ’s decision, he said.

“There’s just no other option from the perspective of preventing Canada’s complicity in potential genocide; Canada must cancel all exports and suspend the arms trade completely to make sure that it’s not aiding or abetting those grave crimes,” Bueckert told Al Jazeera.

“There’s no such thing as safe exports of military goods from a human rights perspective in the context of possible genocide. Canada has to go above and beyond to make sure that it’s not contributing in any way.”

Global Affairs Canada did not immediately respond to Al Jazeera’s request for comment on the calls to end arms transfers to Israel.

Exposing Trump and Defeating the Authoritarian Loop

I’ve coined the term “authoritarian loop” to refer to how people will support authoritarians against their own self-interest because they (1) are conditioned by the authoritarian to feel worthless and expendable, and (2) are told that the suffering they feel, which is caused by the authoritarian, is actually caused by “the enemy” or the “other.” Let me describe this in more detail and then tell you how we combat it with Trump.

This may as well be the chasm between North Korea and South Korea. Oklahoma is the only state where every district voted for Trump, and Massachusetts is the only state where every district voted for Harris. Yet, Massachusetts leads the country in quality of life and in almost every category of wealth, health, and education, while Oklahoma, on the other hand, is last or almost last in those same categories.

So why do people in states like Oklahoma consistently vote against their own interests and keep electing people who are causing their suffering? Why do people in places like Texas elect those who can’t even keep the electricity on and who vacation during mass casualty events?

It’s the authoritarian loop.

The people in these states have been conditioned to believe that their pain and suffering are caused by an “enemy within” and not their actual subjugator: their corrupt MAGA leadership.

In red states, “governance” is actually shorthand for trolling or “owning the libs.” It’s not focused on improving lives.

The same way people in North Korea have been conditioned to be in a perpetual war against their neighbors in the South—who they are told live in subhuman conditions—the language used by Trump and MAGA about liberals, Democrats, and Democratic states is virtually identical.

Democrats are not just another political party. To the modern-day MAGA GOP, Democrats are actually “the enemy within.” They are “scum.” They are “vermin.” This audacious dehumanization is repeated on a loop—an authoritarian loop—every single day on Fox, on right-wing media, and now on X (formerly Twitter).

Dehumanizing the “other” while the dictator and oligarchy reap the riches from exploiting the uneducated is the toolbox of the authoritarian. Make people feel they are worthy of only breadcrumbs, and if by the grace of God you throw them half a loaf of bread, they will rejoice in you as their savior. Saddam Hussein built himself palaces while his people lived in slums. Trump has Mar-a-Lago, while Trump-appointed judges strike down overtime pay for millions of workers. It’s sad, but this is the paradigm through which we must view things now.

My friend David Pepper was prescient when, several years ago, he wrote about how red states were becoming laboratories of autocracy. He was exactly right. They were cooking up and stewing the formula for the “authoritarian loop” to be used on a national level. The final ingredient was billionaires fully embracing their role as authoritarian-style oligarchs.

So what do we do about it? How do we stop it? Is it too late?

First, as of the writing of this post, it is not too late. Yes, we’ve crossed the Rubicon, and America has elected an overtly authoritarian regime that has announced its main goal is inflicting hardship and retribution. But we are not so far past the Rubicon that these devastating, self-inflicted wounds cannot be healed and fixed. I fear that if we give up now and our resistance is non-existent or weak, then things may become unfixable. The good news is there is still time.

Until Trump shuts down the media—or tries to shut down us, which he will attempt—everything Trump and his oligarchs do must be reported on and amplified by citizen journalists every minute of every day.

Every promise Trump breaks must be amplified by citizen journalists. Relentlessly.

For example, I did a video today showing that the stock market was down because of Trump, and now economists say there is a 75% chance of a recession under Trump. Make this a major story.

Trump said he would stop wars as soon as he was elected, even before he stepped foot in office. He has failed to do so. Report it.

Every factory layoff, every anti-worker labor decision, and every time the deficit balloons—report on it. Trump will become defensive, erratic, and spiral. Stop over-intellectualizing things. Use basic, clear language, and repeat it over and over: Trump hates workers. Trump hates workers. Trump hates workers.

Trump’s entire life has been about scamming people. Now he’s captured America in perhaps the biggest scam in world history. For Trump’s other scams (albeit on a smaller scale), his victims eventually woke up and recognized they were played.

If we can be relentless advocates of truth and if we do not submit, there is an opportunity in two years and in four years to take America out of the authoritarian loop. RedState Weekly Briefing: Walz Implodes, Joy Erodes

Welcome to the RedState Weekly Briefing  — where we take a quick look at the week’s most viewed stories in case you missed any of them. Grab a cup of coffee (or something stronger as we stumble into Fall), and sit down with this 21st Century Weekend Edition of your favorite (online) publication!

#1 - Tim Walz's Self-Implosion Continues During Press Gaggle, and John Fetterman's Reaction Is Priceless — by Bonchie

To be clear, this was not about mixing up dates. If I tell you I was at the World Trade Center on 9/11 but it turns out I was just in New York three months later, that would be an inexcusable lie. The event is the point in a situation like this, not the date. A person doesn't accidentally say they were in Hong Kong for the Tiananmen Square protests when they weren't. Walz has long lied about his background for personal gain, and this is just another example of that.  Past that, this idea that he was taking trips to China to teach students about democracy is absurd. That would be the last place one would take students if they wanted to learn about the topic. Whatever affinity Walz had for China, learning about democracy had nothing to do with it.

#2 - Kamala's Attempted Troll of Trump at Alabama Game Fails Miserably, While Trump Is Cheered Wildly — by Nick Arama

So much for "any time, any place." Apparently that doesn't mean any network that she thinks might not have helpful moderators for her. Looks like Kamala was doing a lot of projection there and was the "loser" of whom she spoke. She was the one ducking debates.  Harris just made herself look silly and desperate. She probably couldn't get all of her ridiculous word salad on a banner. If you're winning, you don't have to play such games to try to get attention.  Then too, she failed to understand the people to whom she was trying to appeal, much as she fails to understand most Americans.  

#3 - HOT TAKES: People Notice Something Peculiar About a Staged Kamala Harris 'Briefed by FEMA' Photo — by Sister Toldjah

There are a couple of things that I find super-annoying about the photo. First, if she indeed really wasn't on the phone (and FWIW she's been known to play games with her earbuds before), it's just more fakery on top of fakery from a candidate and team who try reinventing her as a "great leader" just about every single day. The other thing and more importantly is that not one person in this country who is heartbroken and praying for western North Carolina families should be impressed with the photo and caption considering it was posted two days after the region got hammered by Helene and after Harris had other priorities that didn't include expressing anything beyond the bare minimum concern for the hundreds of thousands who have been negatively impacted in my state.

#4 - Biden, Harris Comments in Hurricane-Affected Area Raise Questions and Anger; Elon Wrecks Them in Tweet — by Nick Arama

If you lost your home, that would barely pay for a few days in a hotel and food for a family. And you can apply for it online, she said. Assuming you had power.  Many sounded off on this statement from Harris, raising questions like how much money has been given to Ukraine? Or to all kinds of services and assistance for illegal aliens? $750 is a pittance by comparison.  Meanwhile, Biden, the generally absent leader, was in North Carolina. Watch how slow he is taking his seat, while all around him are moving at normal speed.

#5 - WATCH: The Look on Kamala's Face When the Teleprompter Goes Out at Labor Event in Flint, MI — by Nick Arama

But perhaps the funniest -- and most revealing moment -- during her remarks in Flint was this one when the teleprompter went out. She started talking about Magic Johnson's number being 32 and then said there are 32 days until the election. Check out the look on her face -- you can see the moment that it happened, and then the desperate "filler" words as she waited for it to come back:  She was completely unsure what to do next. How can you ever put someone like that in charge, in such an important position? How would she deal with foreign leaders?
