'Stars of the Silver Screen' (working title) LIFE SERIES WINNERS AU

HI! so. uh. ive been thinking about a new au while taking a wondrous break from the sea prince and with alien stage infecting my mind rn... i might as well spitball some ideas in regards to it! if all goes well, ill have a fic made of it <3 (reasonably shorter than tsp, i want it to be contained in one fic)

SO. lets talk about it a little!

General blurb;

In a world corrupted and filled to the brim with chaos and nonsense, the Watchers provide a sense of relief and entertainment with their brilliant and stunning performers. Their performances are to die for-- quite literally.

Only the most talented are to succeed within the confines of a glorious stage, only one must take the crown.

So what might happen if the Watchers' top performers compete for the crown?

The Stars of the Show; (wip codenames)

Grian (GR-1AN) | Golden Sun

A child of the Watchers, Grian grew up knowing about his true origin while keeping it a secret from everyone else. He doesn't really want to talk to other performers because of it, and he doesn't see the need to, if he was being honest. He's sick of the life he was forced into, but he performs to survive. He's been doing well so far, enough to be deemed a winner, so he has to be doing something right... right?

Scott (5C-0TT) | Brilliant Star

Once an over rebellious performer, Scott is now the Watchers' best performer out of all winners. After the death of his performing partner, Pearl, Scott has resigned himself to following every whim and command the Watchers give him. He has proved to be a wondrous asset, beating all of his opponents with ease and charm. Though his fellow performers are put off by his attitude, they'd wish to never go against him. He has never lost a match in all of his years of performing.

Pearl (P3-4RL) | Bright Moon

Presumed dead by the public, Pearl works in the shadows to bring the Watchers down. Originally, she and Scott planned to leave together, but after her escape plan went awry she was forced to watch Scott perform alone, silently wishing she was there with him. She has to do this for him. For the rest of the performers, too. She just needs Scott to hold on a little longer, and it'll be like she never left at all.

Martyn (M4-RTYN) | Thrilling Mars

Known for his more aggressive performances, Martyn sets out to keep his audience entertained, even if he's a bit of a hothead. Though, offstage, he tries to make acquaintances with other performers, he can't help but feel a little closed off. He knows death, like everyone else, but it took away Ren. He wouldn't want to strike any more connections than he needs to.... But what's Scott's deal, exactly? Why was he acting like that?

Scar (SC--AR) | Grounding Earth

A bright and cheery performer on the outside, a sick and tired individual on the inside. Scar yearns for the outside world, but he wants to leave with Grian, a man he'd been crushing on for the past few years. He's aware that Grian probably doesn't like him as much as he does, but that distant and longing stare from the man is enough of a conviction that Scar would want to bring Grian with him. Like other performers, Scar is wholly unaware of Grian's origins, and believes that he had a 'normal' upbringing like everyone else.

Cleo (CL-3O-) | Unlabeled as of now

The newest addition in the collection, Cleo is shaken at the thought of performing with more 'dangerous' people. She wants to survive, and hell maybe the others too, but she can't help but be monitored by Scott, or given a distance glance by Grian. All she knows is that she has to get out. The outside world can't be that bad, can it?

Notes;

i want this au to be primarily focused on the winners and their place as the Watcher's 'performers'/captives, but i do want to worldbuild on what had happened to the other lifers!

the fic is probably centered on more platonic bonds overall than anything romantic! completely reasonable if people see some romantic tension haha

100000% theres going to be major character death haha, with the nature of its inspiration id like to mess with that <3 so when i brainstorm further, your favorite lifers may or may not be dead!

bc of the au's nature (since its around singing, with alien stage) im not sure how id write it! i feel writing characters sing is a little hard for me to do, so maybe elaborate dances, hm... its a major part of the story-- and i explicitly dont want them to fight physically!

theres a lot of things i gotta work out the kinks on (whos perspective we follow and whatnot) but i feel i already have the main outline bulleted out! itll be much shorter than tsp so- i think i got it haha

i feel i'll formally work on this after wild life, so whoever becomes this series' winner is probably going to play a vital role :0c i can't incorporate secret or wild into tsp as much but this au can definitely work with those more <3

The hale industries sex bots were once the most advanced and realistic toys anyone can buy, the newest model idea has just been completed and ceo Derek can’t wait for a full demonstration of the Sti-13s abilities tomorrow, the bot, named after its impressive 13 inch cock, will be the most powerful TOPS model they’ve ever made.

the prototype has already been set up in the executive board room, a bed and recording equipment ready for the big debut and Derek’s certain this will be the one to put hale back on top after the disastrous jacks-10s almost bankrupt the company. According to studies People wanted a sex bot that could take charge, initiate foreplay, and pound a hole like no other ever since Argent designed those damned Dom sc-0tts.

The night has run late, Derek’s usually do lately, and everyone has gone home. As the ceo passes the board room he notices the spot lights were never turned off and quickly goes to ensure no bulbs blow out before the big show. The board room was never designed for this kind of display, the large charging boxes containing the sti-13s and er-1ka needed for tomorrows show required the main power outlets, so Derek has to crawl over the mattress in order to unplug the lights but as he bends over the edge of the bed and a pair of robotic hands grip onto his pants he is reminded of the sti-13s “presenting protocol” a self initiated sex protocol that reacts to visual stimulus.

As the bot pins him to the bed Derek can see the blinking red recording light flip on and as the lights dim outside the spotlight on the bed Derek scrambles to remember the briefing and what he needs to do to stop the machine. the prototype of course has a few problems namely a lack of refractory period or auto stop function, hence why the demonstration was supposed to be on another bot in order to secure the funding to fix these problems.

All Derek really needs to do is turn the st-13s off with the remote… which is currently in his office… on the other side of the building… but perhaps the bot will need to charge afterall how long could this thing really go for? desperately he looks to the charging box as his pants are ripped at the seam. Bold lettering on the side taunts him as he reads

“twice the battery life of a Dom Sc-0tt stays charged for a full 48 hours!!”

A week later when hale industries releases the full 9 hour prototype debut video, preorders for the sti-13s breaks company records, not that Derek cares much as the research team take his measurements to begin work on their newest BOTtom line product the H413, specially designed to take the largest cocks and modeled after their most requested hole yet

I fucking LOVE this concept. Also, clever names for the different sex bots. I'm guessing that 48hr play time with the St-13s bot was more than enough proof to the company that Derek was the perfect specimen for a new bot. I sure hope that was recorded by security cams

OTTO MENTALLIS. god i wish he had a brain to go in I need to know what it looks like

I've seen a few really great concepts for an Otto brain level overtime and I may have been influenced by some of them....

We know that Otto turns to inventing to express his emotions and moods, as he showed Raz in his lab. Despite having a good outlet, I can't see Otto as the kind of person who is easy to get to open up. He's definitely a really layered individual, that's definitely evident in his characterization even without seeing into his mind.

I know that like every character in Psychonauts is tied to brain imagery, because duh. It's the brain game. But Otto feels especially brain-coded to me. I'd love to see his mind broken up into the id, ego, and superego.

So the brain level would consist of 3 main chambers: a center chamber with grand showroom floor full of Otto's crowning achievements and brilliant devices. I picture Otto being extremely present in his own mind, almost to an unnerving amount. Like every mental figure is Otto in some way or other. I'd picture a lot of them being "Otto-bots" with his mind being so mechanically inclined. A big screen similar to those on the Otto-matics displays a giant Otto head, who talks over the showroom and guides the room's puzzles. On two opposite sides of the room are two doors, heavily locked, that have to be unlocked through solving the puzzles in the main room with the various gizmos and gadgets.

Beyond the now unlocked door on the right lies a figment-strewn, winding hallway indicative of the twisting membrane of a brain. Inside this room is the "superego" Otto, who I think might be heavily brain-looking, like maybe just a brain for a head. I think this version of him is being terrorized by a bunch of robOttos (lol) asking him a lot of questions. Questions of ethics against his experiments, questions about Lucy, about Ford, etc. Raz has to find his way through the overwhelming crowd and get to this version of Otto. He then goes inside of this Otto's mind. I think this area would contain a memory vault showing a bit about how Otto was raised and how he was taught "good from bad" a la superego. The ground would be covered in water (which is such a guilt-associated element to the Psy7 at this point, also doubles like all the tears Otto kept in.) that is electrified, needing levball mechanics to finish the section. Raz tries to bargain with the superego-Otto, but accidentally ends up misguiding him. He gets booted from superego-Otto's mind back to the area with the big loud crowd. (He was trying to balance superego Otto with id ideas and gave him the wrong ideas) This Otto disappears, descending downwards, having a change of heart about feeling guilt.

Beyond the unlocked door on the left is another hallway, growing darker as Raz proceeds down it. It is a factory floor with dozens of brain-Ottos being cruelly driven to work by 0tt-0, a seemingly evil robot version of Mentallis. 0tt-0 is obsessed with the bottom line and cranking out revolutionary, helpful ideas at an unreasonable speed for genius to progress at. The puzzle platform would involve Raz having to help the brain prisoner workers get their work done in time without getting detected so he could get up to 0tt-0's platform and infiltrate his mind. It's sort of the same deal as the other room, except the electricity in this room has caused an electrical fire and needs a lot of time-bubble mechanics to get through. (He was trying to balance id Otto with superego ideas but it backfired, yada yada) 0tt-0 disappears, ascending upwards.

Returning to the showroom shows Regular Otto Mentallis onscreen, now becoming increasingly unstable as his superego and id selves fight on his shoulders. Raz explains how he was just trying to help, Regular Otto pretends he is fine.

Eventually, the showroom floor drops away, the invention parts now floating in a big empty void. Regular Otto grows very large and is tormented by the two smaller versions of himself. As the id and superego fight, everything in the void tilts back and forth. A scathing remark from the id means everything tilts left, superego means everything tilts right. Yada yada, platforming hell, definite justice scales imagery, Raz has to get Regular Otto, aka the Ego, to accept that he has to be open to other people about his feelings, that fighting internally and keeping himself down with his own internal struggles without reaching out will never get him anywhere but more stressed.

I hope that made like. A smidgen of sense. I might draw a super messy layout for it later!

Well with a bit of looking on the George England class of locomotive wiki I learned that the Ffestiniog England class of locomotive is a tank tender engine

A little hc that I came up with while talking about Duke and Bertram. In my au there's two types of the George England class.

George England Tender:

So they are the actual George England class of locomotives. They are the actual engines that Duke and Bertram are based upon, however in my au/hc Duke is the only George England class that is a tender engine. Which means that Duke and Bertram are not related.

George England Tank:

The George England class that are known as tank engines are a modified version of the original George England class to have a tank instead of a tender/coal car since it would be easier to fill up instead of filling up the tender/coal car. However the George England tank class are only used as shunting engines since they are unable to travel far distances without tenders/coal cars and are more prone to being unreliable because of the lack of coal on occasions. Bertram is the only George England tank engine class. He was built in 1882 and was shipped from the Ffestiniog railway to the MRS coal mine

Here's a little bit of a convo between Bertrams old owner and STH in 1932 after STH purchased Bertram to help on the SKR as their station pilot

"He's a bit of a problematic engine" warned his old owners

"What do you mean by that" responded STH with a raised eye brow

"He's the experimental George England tank engine class" replied Bertrams old owner

"So what of it" STH shot back

"He can't run properly since he requires a tender to run long distances" his old owner said side eyeing and glaring at Bertram

Do you think if Zenyatta lost a non-vital part of his body (limbs, voicebox, etc.) that he'd allow himself to get repaired? Considering the blemishes on his body and misplaced wires - maybe he would outright refuse any kind of assistance. "True self is without form", and all that. Genji being incredibly upset, his heart breaking at the sight of his loved one suffering similar injures as he did way back when, but now they're truly inseparable since Genji wills to protect him from anymore harm.

TT 0TT i like to think zen is at least pragmatic about vital things being removed, but he wouldn’t be worried to be fixed with parts that didn’t match/are too old/etc. though true self is without form, i think zen realizes that people would perhaps be afraid or uneasy about an assembly of floating robot pieces; his humanoid appearance and gentle face help comfort the people he meets and wants to help. 

as mondatta also presents in a specific way (dresses in fine robes, is shiny and nice to look at) i think they both realize the importance of appearances, even if they know they are only shells of a true self, they are still important for reaching others.

EDIT: though perhaps a much older zen, near the end of his natural operating time, would do something akin to this. he wouldn’t feel the need to prevent his body’s decay, and would simply accept it.
