Zoe feels like rambling
Bahahaha. So we're officially divorced. That's like wow. Mostly cause it's not from R but a guy a long long long time ago. A dork named Steve. Who's apparently asexual and emotionally traumatized from Eva and Brittany. Meh. Something gross and creepy about exes talking. Besides we didn't really understand what was going on back then. Eva was like stepford wife meets the secretary. The only good thing I remember about that dude is online roleplaying. Fun times. Then the next thing I know we're single and living at dads. Not so fun times. Oof, I was talking about divorce. So we got them papers today. One less piece of baggage. But we didn't get the last name change part done cause Eva was a deer in the headlights during court. Then I was thinking if we gotta do the name change paperwork then how cool would it be to just change our name to Zoe? Bahaha. Then Halo said "Negative". Meh. I was still thinking about it and 01 said "Not gonna happen." Boo. Zoe's an awesome name. It was good Eva wasn't around cause the paperwork said something about not leaving our old state with the kids. I started panicking. But like a rockstar Brittany started making phone calls and sending emails. Fingers crossed! I don't wanna move back. I have had the bad thought of groveling and going back just cause the world is actually big and scary and with lots of paperwork! But then usually 01 rattles me back. It hasn't been so easy. This starting over stuff. Living with mom has ups and downs. Dealing with money has ups and downs. Taking care of kids has lotsa ups and downs. I keep trying to stay on top of writing when I'm out. Halo's on a fitness kick again cause mom gave her a fitness watch. Big trigger for her. Brittany wants to cook. Eva's been kind of mopey. Ikelos had her own thing going on and split over internal stress. Which means we're back with stoney stone Skye who puts ridiculously long fingernails on us and is always covered in paint and lotsa makeup. I pulled all the nails off. No regrets. It's impossible to write with long nails. Which I should be writing. Lotsa stories in my noggin about interesting places and peoples.

– SHE’S ONLY BEEN THERE A FEW DAYS, telling herself she’s biding her time until she can find somewhere more secure to go. after all, staying with jae feels like hiding in plain sight, which is a strategy that tires easily, only works for so long. the only problem is that she sort of LIKES it, can feel herself not wanting to leave ; which is, of course, the best reason in the world to go. she’s curled up on the couch with her latest purchase in her hands – we have always lived in the castle by shirley jackson. it’s about a little girl who poisons her family, and eva finds this comforting, a cozy sort of read. she’ll finish it quickly.
when the door opens, she barely looks up, engrossed in her book. but after a moment, when jae doesn’t have some sort of flirtatious comment or greeting for her, she tilts her head upward. eva tries hard not to let the shock show on her expression, breath caught in her throat. it’s the very last person in the world she’d want to see while trying to keep her existence a secret : steve park. of course he’d have a key.
granted, she also has reason to feel sort of smug at this encounter. steve did everything he could to push her out of the affairs of his family and his life, and here she is, sitting on his best friend’s couch regardless of what he did to her. eva smiles, charming but with false warmth, closing her book. she hopes that he’s as surprised to see her, that she’s just as easily caught him off guard. she hopes that he hates her, she can only dream of inspiring such a strong emotion from such a stoic face. “ hello, steve, ” she tilts her head, sizing him up, “ to what do i owe the pleasure ? ”

By the Numbers: Ben Crawford, Ali Ewoldt, Jay Armstrong Johnson
By the Numbers:  The Ben Crawford/Ali Ewoldt/Jay Armstrong Johnson  Stream, August 22, 2020
[long-awaited submission from Aldebaran; I’m putting it behind a cut]
Oh my gosh, an epic stream deserves an epically long and epically late By the Numbers!  Come with me back in time, all the way back to two weeks ago, which in pandemic days is a month and a half.  Before we were treated to  Giant Ivan and Tiny Tamara in Moscow, there was The Swagger, The Disney Princess and The Bot…
This was a fantastically fun boot to watch as part of a group of enthusiastic Saturday Streamers!  Plusses included an earlier-in-his-run Ben “The Swagger” Crawford as the Phantom, with the spotlight on his booming baritone voice, and Ali “Paris’s Sweetheart” Ewoldt as an enchanting Christine.  And—Jay Armstrong Johnson (we’re pretty sure) as Raoul.  Or some semblance of Raoul.  Something was up with Raoul in this performance and the consensus was there may have been robotics involved. I won’t say more here; the streamers have it covered below and a fantastic set of memes by Onthevirg/faunaproductions caught tons more great moments.   Very very nice filming job by a master who clearly knew the show well and anticipated major moments and character moves in a smooth manner.  Not a bot though.  As far as we know.  And featuring an AIAOY– let’s just say that has to be seen to be believed.
Some stats on the stats:  An asterisk * indicates a recurring category.  All numbers are accurate except where they are not.  I was tempted last week to resort to making crap up for this recap, but resisted the temptation.  I will occasionally add in a missing letter or two.  If a person’s train of thought is split up, I will ignore intervening commentary and put that thought back on track.  Occasionally, by design or by mischance, a comment or two will be moved slightly out of original chronological order.  Or wildly out of chronological order to cater to a theme.  Or a whim.  Only when it’s funny.  There is also no clean way to say the word “organ” which pops up a lot in this stream. (See what I mean?  It can’t be done.)
*Suggested names for this boot: The Animatronic Boot, The Better Than Cooper Boot, The It’s Alive! Boot, Robot Roll Call Boot (Okay, nobody suggested these.  It was me.  I suggested these)
*Statistician’s Favorite Boot Name:  mechanical hands down, The RaoulBot Boot
*Wow, we like to talk about Phantoms:  It has become clear to me that we like to talk about everybody.  And everything.  Phantoms, Christines, Raouls, Mandalorians.  Here are most of the people mentioned in the stream.  There is no context.  Just like a real stream!!!
John Riddle (9), Gina Beck (8), Ramin (6), Rob Houchen (2), Ethan (1), Eiji (1), Uwe (3), Jordan Craig (2), Sierra (1), Steve Barton (3), David Shannon (2), Norm (14), Earl (1), Cooper (2), Darua (4), Thiago (11), Rachel Barrell (1), Meghan Picerno (2), Cherik (19), Pedro Pascal (1), B*rbour (7), Eva Tavares (4), Ted Keegan (5), Maree Johnson (2), Quentin Oliver Lee (1), Jeremy Hays (1), Ben Jacoby (3), Andrew Keenan Bolger (1), Greg Mills (1), Michael Maliakel (1),  KKA (8),  Jordan Donica (1), Kyle Barisch (8), Andrew Ragone (3), Paul Stanley/Stankey (3), Hannah Gadsby (2)
Residual Stolle Thirst:  Residual Stolle Thirst from the stream a week prior to this one, plus Mr. Stolle’s appearance as Passarino AND the Conductor in this boot resulted in >32 mentions.  There may or may not have been comparisons between his Raoul and this boot’s Raoul.  I certainly wouldn’t put it past us.
Epithets for Ben Crawford:  Ubiquitous mentions of Crawdaddy and The Swagger.  More personalized and clearly personal epithets:  Big Ben—ktarinajones, BENBENBENBEN—whereisthepersian, OH HELLO VOICE—butdreamsofbeauty, my horny bastard and I love him—ktarinajones

Ask Away (Steve/Peggy, 1/36 Shorts)
So I’m a little late to the Steggy Week 2018 celebrations but this has been rattling around my head for a while. Based on the 36 Questions to Fall in Love, which you can read about here: https://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/11/fashion/no-37-big-wedding-or-small.html
Basically I wrote a short for each question with Steve & Pegs. Some are very loosely based (like this one). Enjoy! (Hopefully will be on AO3 soon)
-
Question 1: Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest? (I took this more as “Where in the world would you want to be right now?”)
Steve Rogers was euphoric.
Actually, he was completely and utterly exhausted, but his running theory involved his body’s exhaustion being so thorough that he could no longer catalogue each ache and pain. Thus he had passed on to sheer, numbing contentment. In all fairness, he had as many reasons to appreciate his good fortune as well as his fatigue. He had all but given up on ever making it to Camp Lehigh, not after five consecutive enlistment rejections. Yet here he was, training to be a super soldier, no less!
Well, maybe he wasn’t at super soldier level quite yet. Steve winced as he settled himself on the unyielding metal bench of the mess hall tables. His rear end ached with every shift of his weight, his head pounded from lack of water throughout the hot summer day, and he was pretty sure he could taste blood. Even the simple act of lifting his fork to his mouth sent an uncomfortable twinge through his bicep. He wasn’t delusional; he knew there was next to no chance of the SSR selecting him as the Project Rebirth candidate. He’d seen his health record shoved into his face far too many times: he was not super solider material. Even on this, their first day, Private Hodges had stood out as the prime physical specimen. The only thing stopping the SSR from shooting Hodges up with the serum right this instant was their worry that the world wouldn’t be big enough to contain his super-soldier ego.
Nevertheless, Steve’s presence in the mess hall, and at the camp in general, gave him hope that he might be allowed to serve one day if he could just survive the training. He’d never be the leader galvanizing troops at the frontlines, but maybe he could be part of the charge into battle. After all, he’d finished his first mile run of his life today. Nevermind the fact that all the other recruits had kept running for nine more miles; Steve’s vision had gone black at lack of oxygen a tenth of the way into the run and he’d collapsed on the side of the road for the medic to find. But he’d given it his all, darn it. His lungs simply weren’t on the same level as his enthusiasm. (To Steve’s utter embarrassment, Agent Carter and General Phillips, along with the other recruits, had managed to lap back around the path before the medic could get him up off the ground. He could take the teasing from the guys, he’d had that all his life, but the concern and disappointment in his superiors’ eyes was almost more than he could bear.)
Around him, the walls of the mess hall reflected back general din of military men at mealtimes. The most creative curses he’d ever heard colored most sentences. Spoons and forks added a background clattering as recruits scraped every morsel of Slop #4 off of their cheap tin trays. Laughter and shouts of mirth added punches of color to the rowdy atmosphere. The general mood was upbeat, though to Steve it seemed that a sense of desperation colored the unrealistically chipper conversations. These men had known what they were signing on to, after all. In all likelihood, many would soon ship out to the front and not all would return. Steve supposed it was only natural to feel a sense of bravado, a protection from the stark vulnerability of war. He’d just never been one to hide his feelings behind crude humor or hyperbolic tales. He guessed that was probably because he wasn’t all that funny.
To Steve’s left, a larger guy with glasses—he’d been next to Steve in marshal. Russell? Romero?—made a lewd joke about the two women he’d been with the night before he’d enlisted as his captive audience howled with laughter. To Steve’s right, Hodges and his admirers were engaged in a rousing game of Have You Ever.
“Yeah, but hav’ya eva’ taken one gal out f’lunch and anotha’one out f’dinna?” This came from a big, beefy guy by the name of Miller, clearly proud of his accomplishment. His neighbor, a tall, wiry string bean of a guy from Georgia, looked him up and down before saying, “Didja eat ‘em both for dessert after, Mills?” He clapped Miller on the gut as the entire end of the table dissolved into snorts. Miller, on his part, looked offended.
“‘Course not, I boughta slice of cream pie!” he protested, which did not help the giggling all that much. Steve shared Miller’s confusion but supposed it wasn’t the worst thing in the world if he didn’t get the joke.
Steve turned his attention back to his tray and tried to muster up the enthusiasm to eat what passed as a meal in the army. Due to his health, he’d never been very active, and consequently rarely had much of an appetite. Despite his excruciating day of physical training, the mound on his tray looked about as appetizing as the mucus he’d coughed up when he had that particularly bad case of pneumonia back in January, but if he didn’t eat he’d certainly pass out again tomorrow. He huffed a sigh of resignation, grimacing at the stiffness as his chest expanded, and set to the task at hand. He was two swallows into his meal when the seats across from him, empty thus far, were suddenly filled by the bodies of Agent Carter and General Phillips.
“Hello, boys,” Phillips barked. “Sorry to break up the party, but Carter and I are your dinner dates for the evening.” Evidently not sorry, and not particularly bothered by the opinions of the recruits, Phillips plunked himself down next to Hodges. Agent Carter settled in a bit more primly, directly across from Steve. He blushed a pale red for no reason other than the presence of a member of the fairer sex and ducked his head to avoid her gaze.
As Agent Carter settled in, a whispered comment came from the far end of the table followed by poorly-disguised guffaws. Phillips turned and raised a bushy eyebrow.
“Got somethin’ to say down there?” he ground out. “I’m sure Agent Carter and I would love to hear your words of wisdom.” Miller and company, from whom the comment and laugher had originated, at least had the decency to look guilty.
The conversation, stalled by the arrival of the higher-ups, slowly regained momentum, this time a bit more suitable for public ears. Soon, the whole table joined in.
“I’m plannin’ on goin’ out west after the war, fellas. I hear California’s real nice. And all the dames out there wear nothin’ but swimsuits all the damn day. Some of ‘em even wear those flashy two pieces,” Hodges said with a sleazy smirk. It might’ve just been Steve’s imagination, but he thought he saw the slightest tick of a muscle in Agent Carter’s jaw as she delicately scooped a bite of her dinner onto her fork.
“Y’know where I’d go if I could go anywhere? Florida. Get on a boat, grab some lady friends, couple beers. Spend a whole month just fishin’,” Russell said with a slight smile. “They got real good fishin’ companies down there. Could probably make myself a decent livin’, and have some pretty damn good eatin’ too,” he mused, his eyes misty with thoughts of a future far from walls to scale and barbed wire to crawl under. Then his neighbor elbowed the arm that propped up his chin and the moment was lost, traded for the reality of wartime.
From then, the question went around the table clockwise, each man sharing where he wished he could be right then. A short, stocky fellow from Texas wanted to go to Colorado to go skiing; Bulgarelli, from Jersey, wanted to get fondue in Switzerland; MacGregor wanted to see the belly dancers in Latin America. One by one, the recruits offered a tiny sliver of the dream that kept them focused, motivated them through the endless tortures of training. Some spoke briefly; others waxed poetic on the specific dinner or event they wished to experience after it was all over. By the time the question rolled around to the man on Agent Carter’s right, they’d been talking for the better part of half an hour. The mess hall was nearly empty and the clock on the wall revealed that it was well past time to report to their barracks. Steve got the distinct impression that Agent Carter and Phillips were taking everyone’s answer quite seriously, and it dawned on him that eating with them at dinner yet another way of screening the Project Rebirth candidates.
Kowalski wrapped up his tale of diving off the coast of the Bermudas and turned to Agent Carter. “Well, Agent, y’got someplace you’d rather be?” he asked boldly. Agent Carter raised a perfect eyebrow and leveled him with a cool stare.
“Why yes, in fact I do. You boys are not the only ones allowed to think of a time after this war. I think I would quite like to head straight to New York. There’s a club all my American friends can’t stop talking about, some bird name or something. I think I’d spend my first free evening there,” she finished. “General, I do believe it’s your turn.”
Agent Carter turned away from Kowalski to fiddle with her wristwatch. Her gaze caught Steve’s and he managed to hold it for 3 whole seconds before he felt warmth creeping up his neck. He hurriedly glanced down at his long-congealed leftovers, but couldn’t get the image of prim, proper, stunning Agent Carter walking into a club like she owned the place. Perhaps in a dress to match her lipstick, always that perfect crisp crimson, even after hours of surveying recruits in the sun. He completely missed General Phillips’s quiet, gruff answer of “Home to my wife” as well as several descriptions of a beach with women and no one else in sight. Steve couldn’t miss the continued tightening of Agent Carter’s jawline with each continued answer along that vein. It was finally Miller who broke her facade, not that Steve was surprised.
“I’d go t’France right this moment if I could. Them dames out there don’t wear tops at th’beach, fellas, whatcha think ‘bout that? Spread out, wine ‘em and dine ‘em,” Miller said, leaning back with his hands clasped behind his head. His face clearly betrayed what exactly he planned to do after the wine ‘em and dine ‘em part of his fantasy.
Agent Carter let out a huff, clearly exasperated. “You are aware of the war happening in France right now, aren’t you, Private Miller? Or are you just here for the ambiance and fine cuisine?” she said, her tone dripping with sarcasm. Miller, stuck on the tri-syllabic ‘ambiance’, opened his mouth, thought better of it, and shut it again. Steve grinned into his plate.
As the question continued to circle the table, Steve stole glances at Agent Carter out of the corner of his eye. A spot of color had appeared on the tops of her cheeks, likely a result of her little outburst. She was, quite literally, the most gorgeous woman Steve had ever seen in his life. She was --
“Rogers? Private Rogers!” It took General Phillips snapping in his face for Steve to break from his reverie. He belatedly realized the whole table was staring at him, waiting for his answer. Hodges was in the middle of an eye roll so intense Steve wondered idly if his eyes might not come back from that far into his skull.
“Oh, I, uh,” he began. “Er…”
He glanced around, mind helpfully blank of the list of places he and Bucky had made when Bucky had gotten his first job and they’d dreamed of traveling the world together with those thirty cents per hour he'd made. As Steve scanned the mess hall, desperately hoping for something to pop into his head, he caught a glimpse of the flag whipping around the flagpole through the window. Lit up by a lone bulb in the dusk, the white stars and stripes seemed to glow against the royal blue and scarlet background. Memories of each of his five enlistment rejections flipped through his head, accompanied by feelings of unimportance and uselessness. He’d pushed for so long to serve under that flag, refusing to give up while there were still people out there suffering. A whisper of a smile dancing on his lips, Steve had his answer.
“I think…I would stay right here. Y’know, get used to the whole slop stuff. Maybe if I eat enough of it I’ll sink right to the bottom of the mud and swim right under the barbs by next week,” he joked. There was a moment of silence, then the whole table erupted in hoots and laughter. Even General Phillips looked heavenward as if for patience.
But Agent Carter simply gave him a good long look, tilting her head ever so slightly to the left. He shivered under her gaze but held it, encouraged by the hunch that he’d impressed her. A second ticked by, then another, then ever so slowly, a smile drew up one corner of her mouth. With the briefest of nods, she turned to Phillips.
“Seeing as the only place these boys are headed in the near future is back on the training course, I’d say it’s high time for lights out. Shall we?” she said, slipping off the bench smoothly. “If no one besides Rogers reports to supper tomorrow we shall know where you all have gone. Though Miller, I’d advise against France. Wine and topless women aren’t worth having your brain blown off. Not that you seem to have much of one.”

ARISS APRS Testing The ARISS team has been working very closely with NASA and ESA to identify potential ARISS radio anomaly causes and resolve the radio issues that were observed after the EVA (spacewalk) conducted on January 27. During this spacewalk, cabling was installed to support the commissioning of the Bartolomeo attached payload capability mounted on the Columbus module. Part of this cabling rerouted the cabling of the ARISS antenna on Columbus to the ARISS radio system.
Through a great deal of coordination with NASA and ESA, ARISS will be conducting a set of APRS tests to determine the operational use of the ARISS radio system in Columbus through employment of three different cabling configurations. Over the next couple of days, ARISS will be performing a series of tests using our APRS capability through the standard 145.825 MHz APRS frequency. The crew will be periodically shutting down the radio and swapping cables so ARISS can troubleshoot the radio system and the cabling. ARISS is unsure of the exact swap times as it will be dependent upon the crew’s availability.
We expect these tests to start no earlier than 1600 UTC on March 2 and run through sometime on March 3. We cannot guarantee that these troubleshooting tests will resolve the radio issue. But we encourage ARISS APRS operations in this time span. Additionally, a contingency task has been approved for an EVA planned for this Friday March 5 if these tests are unsuccessful. This EVA task would return the ARISS cabling to the original configuration prior to the January 27 EVA. Being a contingency task means the crew will only be perform the activity if time allows. So there is no guarantee that this EVA will be conducted on Friday.
We ask to please not send any “No contact” e-mails or social media responses as this will overwhelm the ARISS team. But if you definitely hear the packet system working or are able to connect through it, let us know the Date, Time and Grid Square of the occurrence.
We thank you for your patience as we work through this somewhat complex anomaly.
73,
Frank Bauer, KA3HDO\ ARISS, International Chair Executive Director, ARISS-USA

From A Hobby To An Industry: The Evolution Of Video Games
By Brian Uhler, University of Chicago Class of 2021

Within the last few decades, technological advancements and a dedicated community have led to the rapid development of a new, exciting industry: video gaming. Initially a very small scene with little worldwide recognition, video gaming has only recently vaulted onto the main stage. The parents of today’s children certainly did not have the exposure to video games that their children do today; this industry has risen to international prominence seemingly overnight within a generation. But how did this happen? How did a few new computer chips and some hardcore video game players turn a simple hobby into an industry now worth billions of dollars?
Interestingly enough, video games actually find their true origin in the labs of scientists. One of the earliest games, Spacewar!, a simple computer game about space combat, was invented by Steve Russell at MIT in 1962. It was not until 1972 that an actual home console was developed – a console whose sole purpose was for video games, rather than games merely being programs to be installed on a computer. This first console, “The Odyssey”, was developed at Sanders Associates, Inc, (3) led by Ralph Baer. Baer is often thought of as the father of video games, but although he was the first, he was far from the last. In 1977, Atari released their own console, the Atari 2600, which proved to be the first real competition to The Odyssey. However, the video game industry had a substantial decline in 1983 due to a multitude of factors, including an oversaturated game market and a lot of over-hyped, low-quality games. The video game industry began to recover in 1985 with the release of Nintendo’s NES system, which had improved graphics and gameplay. This was Nintendo’s first big splash in the gaming industry (it had previously been a playing card manufacturer), and many of its early titles such as Super Mario Bros. still survive today.(3) Fast forward to the 21st century and we see Microsoft and Sony enter the fray, with the former releasing the Xbox console and the latter releasing the Playstation console. These three companies have mostly dominated the home console gaming industry, and they constantly compete for the ever-growing video game fanbase.
But advances in video game technology alone did not create an industry – to do that, a small but determined group of hardcore gamers was needed. Along with the technological advancements was the advancement of its followers, and most notably, its competitors. This industry is not unlike a sport; in fact, video game competitions are referred to as eSports (electronic sports). The first every eSports event happened in 1972 when people competed in Spacewar!, one of the first video games ever created. As the competitive gaming scene progressed, it became clear that the competitive drive of these players was similar, if not identical, to that of professional athletes; many people find a home in the gaming industry, and all players compete under their personal alias called a “gamertag.”The evolution of this competition was able to come to the forefront of the world stage with the rise of the Internet, allowing players to play across the world. (4) When it became clear that the video game industry was ripe to become something more than just a hobby, companies began to take notice. Twitch is a website used by gamers to stream footage of themselves playing to viewers across the world. (1) In 2014, Amazon bought Twitch for $970 million, an obviously enormous sum of money. Clearly, Amazon thinks that investing in the video game industry is a smart move in the long term. Furthermore, video gaming does make a lot of money; League of Legends, an extremely popular multiplayer game, generated $1.5 billion in revenue in 2019 alone, to say nothing of the countless other popular video games on the market.
As the market for competing and streaming video games evolves, there is no more notable video game player than Tyler Blevins, better known by his gamertag, “Ninja.” Ninja, famous for streaming the multiplayer game “Fortnite”, makes nearly $1 million per month through his gaming. (5) He makes this money in a variety of ways – through streaming on Twitch, through posting video content to Youtube, and debatably most importantly, through big-name sponsors like Redbull and Samsung. The reason that sponsorships like this are potentially the most important source of Ninja’s income is that it proves that there is a rising commercial value in the video gaming industry; if in 1980 you asked a company the size of Redbull if they would ever consider investing in video games, you would get a much different answer than you would get today. As well as large, international corporations that have invested in eSports, some companies are being created with the sole purpose of supporting video gaming. These eSports companies sponsor notable players and assemble teams for competition, much like professional sports teams. For example, Ninja is partnered with Luminosity Gaming.
However, much like professional athletes, video gaming is not without its risks. Injuries are actually fairly common, especially to the hands and wrists. Super Smash Bros. Melee, a Nintendo fighting game created in 2001, is widely regarded as one of the most technical and difficult video games ever created. In 2014, Aziz “Hax” Al-Yami suffered a crippling hand injury due to his beloved game. (10) He said that while practicing he felt an “explosion” in his wrist, and when he went to a doctor to check it out, he found out that much of the cartilage in his thumb had calcified into bone due to years of physical stress from the game. Plus, Hax’s story is not just one anomaly; many top professionals have also experienced injuries that have caused them to need an extended break from the game or to retire altogether. Super Smash Bros. Melee is especially notorious for hand injuries; players routinely press more than six buttons per second, with each game lasting around 3 minutes. (8) Tournament matches are typically a first-to-three set, meaning that they play anywhere between three and five games each match. If they play an average set, say, four games, then they will have played the game for 12 minutes, which is 720 seconds and thus an average of 4,320 buttons in a single tournament match. A typical major tournament will have nearly 2,000 entrants, and in such tournaments, the top players have to play more than a dozen sets over the course of the tournament. For example, Adam “Armada” Lindgren, the winner of the 2015 tournament “Genesis 3”, played 13 total sets in his path to victory. (9) This means he likely pressed over 50,000 buttons to win the tournament, a number that is at the very least startling. So, with video games on the rise and corporations starting to funnel money into the scene, what can be done about possible injuries to the players?
It is common for professional sports teams to have a physical therapist travel with them to their competitions. Is it such a wild idea to think that the same strategy may be a viable option for video game players? As it turns out, this idea is not as strange as it may initially sound. A company called “1-hp” does exactly this. The name itself, “1-hp” is a video game reference; “hp” refers to health points, while “1” is the lowest possible amount of health points a player can have in a video game before their character dies. Run by two physical therapists, 1-hp specializes in managing and preventing injuries to video game players. The idea behind this is much like it would be for a professional sports team; these eSports organizations essentially invest in players, and therefore, they want to make sure their players are healthy. In terms of business, a player getting injured and being unable to recover could result in the loss of a competition, the loss of the player’s career, and a substantial loss of money. Imagine your favorite NFL team is about to play in the Superbowl, but the starting quarterback’s ankle hurts. That player’s injury could affect the outcome of the game, the money made from the game, and probably the player’s career. So, teams are willing to pay for top-notch treatment for their players to keep them as healthy as possible. Thus, like professional sports teams, video game organizations also want to keep their players in the best shape possible.
From its humble beginnings to its international recognition, the evolution of the video gaming industry is certainly a rapid and impressive one. With corporations stepping in to support the scene and medical professionals doing their best to ensure the health of the competitors, the video game industry is going nowhere but forward in the years to come.

As I've said I want to start talking on this blog about how I think Directors often get too much credit and we should maybe start paying more attention to the writers.
The thing that makes TV Anime a particularly interesting medium in this case is how there are usually less writers then directors.
The "Series Composition" credit seems to be the writing equivalent of being the Series Director, it's a job that in theory could be done by someone not writing individual episode scripts at all, but it generally isn't done that way.  Usually the writer with that credit also writes more episodes then anyone else and that includes the first and last episodes and a few other of the most definitely not filler episodes.  And there are usually only 4 or 5 writers in total, often only 3 who could be said to have written a significant amount.
However there are usually between 7-10 Episode Directors, and the first and last episodes usually don't have the same director.  And the series director probably actually episode directs less then he would have if he he weren't the series director.  And no director even comes close to directing as many episodes as the "Series Composition" person writes.
Some shows fail to give a Series Composition credit, at least on the main Database websites (MAL, ANN and AniDB), but it's easy to guess who was serving that function by looking at what and how many episodes the writers wrote.  Like Sukehiro Tomitia for the first season of Sailor Moon who I've already talked about.  He also seems to be this again for the Black Moon saga, but for the Doom Tree arc I would argue the most important writer was Shigeru Yanagawa.
For Sailor Moon S things are a bit different.  Tomita seems to no longer be obviously the most important writer, Megumi Sugihara wrote the most episodes for S, but still not as many as Tomita wrote for prior seasons, she wrote 10 episodes of S.  She had been around since season 1 but not quite from the start of it.  S had more writers total because of the newcomer, Youji Enokido who wrote 9 episodes.  Tomito did write the first and last episodes, but S is structured so different from season 1 that even that doesn't mean as much, the last episode of S is literally filler.  Tomita wrote 7 episodes total.
Three of Sailor Moon's writers including Tomita would leave after S to go work on other projects, to some extent I think they were writing less during S because they were doing the prep work for those projects.  The one I talked about in the Cutey Honey Flash post was the lead writer of Gundam Wing, if you've ever felt like Wing is the most Shoujo of all Gundam shows, that's because it was written by someone who spent most of the 90s writing Magical Girl shows.
Sailor Moon SuperS is the first season to actually have a Series Composition credit, which is given to Youji Enokido. Kind of surprising as he was the complete Newcomer for S, Megumi had seniority but I guess you can't have the lead writer of a show for girls actually be a girl.  Enokido also wrote the Screenplay for the SuperS movie, Black Dream Hole (the first two movies were written by Tomita).
Megumi and Enokido both left Sailor Moon after SuperS creating a situation where Sailor Stars the last season had no writing staff overlap with the first 3 seasons and two writers who had no prior Sailor Moon experience at all.  If you think Sailor Moon's quality went down hill it was definitely the writing staff that changed more then the directorial staff, the Series Director of Stars had been part of the Sailor Moon directorial team since Goldfish Warning!.  But I don't think the Stars writers are overall inferior writers, they were just at the time less experienced, some of them I know went on to write stuff that can compete with the early seasons of Sailor Moon.  When Sailor Moon started Toei hired some pretty experienced writers and directors because they knew this would be one of their most important shows.  But once those writers wanted to go on to other things they were replaced by relative newcomers.
The first 6 episodes of Sailor Stars I feel would work really well edited together into a 2 hour movie. What's interesting here is each one has a different director, but it was all written by two writers, the only two Stars writers who were veterans of SuperS, so ideally placed to write that season's epilogue.  Though they had no experience writing the Outer Senshi since Enokido did their episode of the Special, in which case they did surprisingly well.
Megumi doesn't seem to have done much after leaving Sailor Moon.  Enokido while doing SuperS wrote 4 episodes of Neon Genesis Evangelion, all of them from the first half of the show.  I at first thought the only reason he had writing credits in the Rebuild films is because the first two redo/remake stuff from his episodes.  But then he also has a credit in 3.33 which has no connection to any episode he wrote.  So either their credits by default list everyone who worked on the original or they did consult him on something.
The first thing Enokido did after he left Sailor Moon was being the head writer of Revolutionary Girl Utena.  Yes I'm applying my maybe we give directors to much credit to even the most revered work of one of Anime's most worshiped Auteur Directors.  Utena definitely looks the way it does chiefly because of Ikuhara, and the basic idea of it's story started with Ikuhara.
But there is a segment of the fanbase who thinks Utena is the only (completely original to him) Ikuhara show that's great and are not so infatuated with his over hyped 2010s stuff, like WhiningAboutYuri on Tumblr, and that could be largely because the 2010s shows had completely different writers.  I personally enjoy his 2010s stuff, and probably consider Penguindrum more rewatchable then Utena.  But Utena is the only Ikuhara show I'd ever really put on a favorites list.  And YuriKuma's final act frustrates me, on a list of 2010s Yuri shows it'll always fall below Citrus on my rankings.  Of course even with Penguindrum I'd have preferred a happier ending.
And also on Utena Ikuhara was never even an Episode Director.  So he was at the top of the pyramid but there was a lot of delegating.  It was a collaborative effort on every level.  It's almost like when that one comedian makes fun of Steve Jobs getting all the credit for the iPhone.  Enokido may well have done more writing then Ikuhara did directing.
Enokido wasn't Utena's only writer.  One I already made a post about due to my love of some of his other work.  But a lot of the other writers seem to have Utena as the only Anime they ever worked on.  Including the person who wrote most of the Nanami episodes, how is it that person hasn't gotten more work when they're obviously a comedic genius?
Enokido however had the Series Composition credit and wrote 20 episodes, just over half.  They include the first five, episode 7, and 9, the two not as filler as you think recap episodes and almost all of the final Apocalypse Arc.  And he wrote the Screenplay for the movie.
Enokido would have a lot of post Utena work.  Not always stuff that is still well known.  He wrote 5 episodes of RahXephon, a show often compared to Evangelion that in my opinion is far better.  Maybe that's partly because Enokido wrote more of it then he did Eva.  He also wrote Redline which seems to be a popular racing movie.
But perhaps the most notable thing Enokido has done in the last decade years is Stardriver.  I haven't seen Stardriver yet mainly because it lacks a dub, but at this point I doubt it ever will get one so I might as well just give in and watch it subbed.  It's been described as like if Eva and Utena had a baby who grew up to do musical theater.
Stardriver's director is the same director as Sailor Stars, who had been an episode director on Sailor Moon going back to season 1 and also worked on Cutey Honey Flash.  He then worked on Fun Fun Pharmacy and a number of the shows that proceeded Pretty Cure in it's time-slot, and did episode 8 of the first season of Pretty Cure.  His visual style is certainly an interesting one to combine with the writer of Utena.
Gen Urobuchi is a rare example of a writer who's name gets mentioned more then the directors of the popular shows he wrote.  But sometimes his association is with the source material rather then the Anime directly, it varies.  I find it interesting how many of his shows have Yuki Kajuria on the music even though nothing else connects them.  Maybe they just naturally go together.
All that is just the tip of the iceberg.  There are plenty more Anime where I think the writer is more why I like them then the director.  I'll likely make more posts on this subject in the future.
One detail I'd like to point out before ending this post is that the two most popular up and coming Female Anime directors of the last decade also had female writers on their most notable work, who also wrote plenty of stuff directed by men.
