BALITANG SHOWBIZ: Tanjayanon Singer 'Kevin Rosano' defeated at 'Tawag ng Tanghalan - The School Showdown'

QUEZON, MANILA -- A 19 y/o college singer from Tanjay City, Negros Oriental named Mr. Kevin Delacerna Rosano representing at "Tawag ng Tanghalan: The School Showdown" via the Philippines' long-running noontime show "It's Showtime" on DWWX-TV 2's Kapamilya Channel: Manila (formerly ABS-CBN), who was now an incoming 2nd year college student at 'Diaz College' and lone resident of Brgy. Tugas, this said city and province.

'Tawag ng Tanghalan: The School Showdown' features student contestants aged 14 and above, and are from different universities in this said country, representing the universities they are currently enrolled in. There are 4 phases to be battled out in a school-based amateur singing competition as a noontime segment: Entrance Examinations, Preliminary Examinations, Middle-term Examinations and Final Examinations.

Mr. Rosano sang a competition showdown last Monday afternoon (July 8th, 2024 at 2pm), and is determined and dedicated to win the golden microphone. In an exclusive social media interview, he expressed a heartfelt gratitude to be given the opportunity to compete in the competition with the pride and honor of the city of Tanjayanons.

In his 3rd appearance on the TNT stage of ABS-CBN Studio in Quezon City, he asked for their prayers and support for the people of Tanjayanons and Negrosanons. Rosano previously declared at the original 'Tawag ng Tanghalan' Season 3 daily contestant in the late mid-July 2019.

Several years later after the Coronavirus Disease-19 (CoViD-19) until the present day, the 'Diaz College' student representative (Mr. Rosano) was defeated with a song of "If I Never Sing Another Song" with a final score of 91.3% against Beng Villasan Eway of 'Jose Rizal Memorial State University' from Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte sang "Ang Buhay Ko" also with a final score of 93.7%, where both student individuals compete in an amateur singing competition on national TV.

As a result, sadly, Mr. Rosano will be sent back home at the end of daily rounds, receiving a consolation prize of PHP5,000 (or roughly U$D86).

Provocations One; The impact of technology on communication

This blog will discuss how technology became one of the most essential aspects of human life, specifically our connections with others. With technological advances, our way of living progressed, conveniently changing our everyday practices. We saw these changes during the pandemic, where education and relationships stood admirably despite the physical constraints of connecting. This goes to show that technology has positively impacted our ability to communicate. 

Communication is key. It’s a saying ruled in as law in all aspects of life: relationships, workplace, entertainment and education. Education and communication go hand in hand; we see that in how it supported the world during the pandemic crisis, “remote learning [is] a way to meet diverse needs” (George et al., 2021, p. 5). 

It’s a simple fact that our lives cannot function efficiently without the help of technology. The Industrial Revolution and the pandemic crisis that overtook our society proved that. Rind et al. (2021) see communication technologies as a “convenient source of communication” (p. 2). To put this in the educational setting, technology has successfully provided students access to the world’s knowledge, thus supplying them with a “better learning environment” and decreasing the “learning gap.” (Rind et al., 2021, p. 2). 

However, despite the positive technological impacts on communication, there were issues regarding online learning that caused a stir in these positive impacts. Desk (2020) explores the concept of education during the pandemic and names numerous apps that have assisted in creating convenience in intercommunicating. One of them is Zoom. Despite the praising tone Desk had for the application, they mention the issues of “uninvited participants” joining class calls and “shar[ing] objectionable content” (p. 3). Technology is a marvellous innovation and has created opportunities; however, like the physical world, the digital world also encourages the exercise of Freedom of Speech. 

To conclude, despite its positive impact, technology is still something all educators and guardians should be wary of as the dangers of technological communication are ever-present.

🚶🏾‍♀️what i ended up doing is since the shops take 50% what u get paid anyways why don't i just charge half the price. i was snatching up so many of the younger customers in my age group bc of word of mouth, affordability, and my professionalism 🙂‍↕️ i took it very seriously and even a decade later it makes me happy to think there are ppl out there still happy with what i was able to do for them, the same way i feel so great w how i look thanks to the piercer I've been coming back to myself.

14. i do 3D modeling and electrical engineering as a hobby sometimes but i ONLY am ever compelled to do it when it's for taking care of plants. my dream would be to have a huge lab complex with different zones for different climates for growing different kinds of plants separated by their general purpose (ie spices, medicinal herbs, fruits n veggies etc). but a bunch of others too just bc they're neat. i rly wanna play around w hydroponics and think being able to fully automate plant care and learning how to care for all of them sounds rly nice (❁´◡`❁) i could settle for a greenhouse too ♡⁠ apartment indoor gardening it is though huh (⁠´⁠ ⁠.⁠ ⁠.̫⁠ ⁠.⁠ ⁠`⁠)

15. i have never had a straight era. when i was little i knew of LGB and straight ppl but didn't ever see myself as belonging to one or thought about it. i watched the music video for Im Not Okay and Frank kissing Gerard immediately made me realize and instantly accept that i was bisexual. being bisexual has always been pretty matter of fact to me and as a kid i didn't hide it but didn't rly feel the need to talk about it either unless u asked lol. but like. i was never questioning, i wasn't even ever straight and i think that's really funny. i didn't get to intentionally explore myself as a queer person until my early 20s but i have always been surrounded by queer ppl and that's rly nice 👼🏾

granted, she also has reason to feel sort of smug at this encounter. steve did everything he could to push her out of the affairs of his family and his life, and here she is, sitting on his best friend’s couch regardless of what he did to her. eva smiles, charming but with false warmth, closing her book. she hopes that he’s as surprised to see her, that she’s just as easily caught him off guard. she hopes that he hates her, she can only dream of inspiring such a strong emotion from such a stoic face. “ hello, steve, ” she tilts her head, sizing him up, “ to what do i owe the pleasure ? ”

CLASSIC NEWS: PETA axes out for the Turkey Trot Festival in a Rural Town of Arkansas leaving for a Permanent Cancellation of Thanksgiving

YELLVILLE, ARKANSAS -- The annual local thanksgiving celebration of Live Turkeys was its nationwide concern in a small town of Yellville, Arkansas, United States of America (U.S.A.).

Animal advocacy says from PETA, they are now offered U$D5,000 (PHP285,000) reward for information leading to the arrest of anyone known to drop a Live Turkey from the air.

United Poultry Concerns and NBC KY3-TV reports from the said article, Turkeys bred specifically for industrial breast meat production can’t fly due to their abnormal weight and related problems of physical disproportion and cardiopulmonary weakness, but they don’t appear to be the kinds of birds traditionally thrown out of airplanes the said small town. Such turkeys would crash to the ground like a wingless creature and killed themselves altogether in free fall for a poultry of suicidal crime. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) says they will not intervene since the turkeys aren't seriously injured and it doesn't pose a risk to the people of Yellville town.

Masterson & BN_King (Martinez) was seriously alarmed in Fibbage 4 despite for a permanent cancellation of Thanksgiving as ordered with PETA for a total festival ban.

The National Congress, including the American President named Joe Robinette Biden Jr. is up to speed for PETA in order to halt all of the animal cruelty with its nationwide concern of Arkansas.

Kim Junmyeon 김준면 🐰 Overview

Junmyeon, stage name Suho (meaning "guardian"), is a South Korean singer, songwriter, and television, film, and musical actor. He is the leader and lead vocalist of EXO. 

This post is part of an effort to celebrate the accomplishments of EXO over the past 10 years and to provide tangible avenues for supporting these artists in 2022 (when they will likely be leaving SM Ent.) and beyond 🖤

He debuted as a soloist on March 30, 2020 with the release of his EP, Self-Portrait. The EP debuted at number one on the Gaon Album Chart and has sold over 290,338 copies in South Korea and over 420,000 total copies as of February 2022. He won all three main music shows in Korean broadcast during the week of the album’s release. As SH20 he has songwriting credits on both collabs with Jang Jae-In, as well as for all six songs on Self-Portrait. 

On May 14th, 2020 Suho enlisted for his mandatory military service as a public service officer at a children's center in the Gangnam area, also assisting with special projects such as Covid vaccination clinics. He was discharged on February 13th, 2022. As someone who has made a name for himself in acting, musicals, fashion, hosting, and singing, we expect great things now that he’s back.

Decompensated cirrhosis

Albumin, INR, and platelets tell you about decompensated cirrhosis

Get MELD score (tells you about prognosis) and Child Pugh score (estimates cirrhosis severity). MELD-Na is a new version of the MELD score that is better than the MELD and includes Na+; it's based on whether pt goes for dialysis twice weekly, Cr, bilirubin, INR, and sodium. MELD-NA tells you the severity of end stage liver disease. Pts who present with bleeding varices or ascites have decompensated cirrhosis and worse prognosis. So calculate the MELD score to educate the pt about his/her prognosis. Child-Pugh is based on total bilirubin, albumin, INR, Ascites, Encephalopathy.

Maddrey's discriminant function suggests which patients with alcoholic hepatitis have a poor prognosis and would benefit from steroids. It's based on PT and total bilirubin.

Cirrhosis is decompensated if the pt has varices or ascites.

Pts who present with bleeding have 50% mortality in 6 months.

All cirrhotics should get an EGD to evaluate for presence of varices.

In pts with ascites, calculate the SAAG score, which tells you whether the ascites is due to portal HTN.

Patients with SAAG greater than or equal to 1.1 gm/dL is considered as having high SAAG, indicating the presence of portal hypertension, while those with SAAG less than 1.1 gm/dL are considered as having low SAAG, indicating the absence of portal hypertension.

This is an example of a GI note for a pt who came in with decompensated cirrhosis:

Pt is a ----- w/ a PMH of hepatitis C, EtOH abuse, tobacco use, and IVDU who was admitted for acute decompensated liver cirrhosis w/ascites. 1. Acute decompensated liver cirrhosis w/ascites New diagnosis of liver cirrhosis likely 2/2 EtOH/hepatitis C. MELD score = 21, indicating 19.6% estimated 3-month mortality. Notable symptoms include scleral icterus and abdominal ascites. Low concern for SBP in the absence of fever, leukocytosis, or peritonitis. Initial labs include hemoglobin 14.5, platelet count 113, INR 1.6, PTT 29.2, total bilirubin 8.3, AST 125, ALT 58, albumin 2.7, total protein 9.3. No evidence of anemia. Parsaesophageal varices suggested on CT imaging require eventual EGD for further evaluation.

Ceruloplasmin and AFP normal. Iron studies and alpha-1 antitrypsin indicative of inflammation. Additional labs pending. 4L ascitic fluid removed during 9/7 paracentesis. PMN less than 250, which is not indicative of SBP. Ascites albumin pending for SAAG calculation. RUQ U/S demonstrates slowed portal vein flow, though no evidence of masses or thrombosis.

-acute hepatitis panel, ANA (anti-Nuclear Antibody), ASMA (Anti-Smooth Muscle Antibody), AMA (antimitochondrial), SPEP (Serum Protein Electrophoresis) pending -less than 2 g daily sodium restriction -ascites fluid analysis w/ cell count, albumin, and protein for calculation of SAAG -ammonia level pending -confirm vaccination status of HAV, HBV, influenza, Pneumovax, Prevnar -avoid NSAIDs + counsel for alcohol cessation -steroids for EtOH liver disease contraindicated due unclear hepatitis C status -MRI abdomen for evaluation of portal vein thrombosis/masses -100 mg spironolactone + 40mg lasix qd

2. EtOH use Hx of significant alcohol use over the past 6 years w/o reported hospitalization. Reported taper from 3-4 glasses of vodka daily to several ounces daily; last drink 3 days ago. No withdrawal symptoms at this time. EtOH level less than 3 on admission. Suspected primary etiology of liver cirrhosis.

-management of potential withdrawal symptoms per primary team (CIWA protocol without ativan) -cessation counseling strongly recommended in setting of liver cirrhosis -potential options for medication assisted therapy include acamprosate, naltrexone, baclofen, or gabapentin -nutrition therapy including multivitamin, thiamine, and folate -recommend nutrition consult

3. Hepatitis C Reported hx of hepatitis C not previously treated, unknown genotype. Last seen by GI prior to COVID.

-HCV viral load + genotype pending -outpatient GI f/u for further management

4. Paraesophageal varices on CT Confirm CT findings w/ EGD prior to considering initiation of beta-blocker. -outpatient EGD, unless concern for GI bleed or masses seen on abdominal MRI

5. Family hx of colon cancer

Sister diagnosed w/colon cancer. Pt has not had colonoscopy to date. -outpatient colonoscopy recommended

Then after giving them the raise that Congress made him, he lied about it pretending that it was larger than Obama’s. It wasn’t.

1) If/Then

No surprise here I hope. I love it. I think I've found it at the right moment in my life with deciding to drop pre-u early and just go to university and all the covid craziness. I love that there's always more to analyze and I love that introduced me to so many talented people and in a way, I like that the fandom is small and it feels like I'm actually a part of it instead of just watching from the sidelines. And I adore how passionate Beth is about her work. I want to be that passionate about what I I someday. Even though there are countless things worthy of tears in this musical, her passion for city planning moves me. She's the role model I wish I had years ago and the one I am so grateful to have now. I also appreciate that I can recognize her faults and that she's not a perfect person. I don't believe in perfect role models. I don't think that does anyone any good. I think we need to be able to point out faults in our heroes and know right from wrong

2) Wicked

I saw this March 1st, 2020 before Covid is what it is now. I got to see it on Broadway. My mom's the science type (she literally made us go to the math museum in NYC) so I couldn't believe she actually bought tickets. I felt so connected to the piece and I loved how it portrayed female friendships. For once it felt like something that reflected how I felt sometimes and not just some stereotypical over exaggeration. Not to mention it was in a fantasy setting. I adore fantasy cause reality can suck sometimes and I find it's easier to understand an issue when it's presented to me in a neutral setting like a fantasy world. I didn't cry, but I was close. I spent the weeks during the first lockdown just analyzing the show and learning to love not just musical theatre but music as a storytelling device since until then, I honestly saw music as an annoyance that should be purged from the world.

3) Fangirls

I'll admit I never expected to be a fan of this show haha but considering my pre-predjudices against it are the issues it's talking about I shouldn't be so surprised. I wish this existed when I was in Junior High since it was a message I could have used then. I used to eat bugs in the parking lot because I thought people would respect me more if I wasn't so girly. Didn't work. Having a less sexist gym teacher in Cycle 3 might have helped too.

4) Anastasia

I've always loved the movie. Anastasia was my favourite princess growing up (besides the Barbie Diamond Castle and Princess and Pauper ones XD) and I always enjoyed the movie because I thought it merged the fantastical with the reality so well. When I first saw a video of the stage musical I was in awe. This is something I refer to when I think of adapting something for a different media done right. I felt like they changed its work yet kept the core of the story and what made it special in the first place, and they used the differences of live-action and live theatre to improve upon it in ways the original couldn't be in its format. It hits deep every time and not just because it's a pretty show.

5) Dogfight

I love Lindsay Mendez. She is so talented. She and Derek Klena have amazing chemistry. I watched a video of this after watching Fly Girl and could get over it. I love the fact that Eddie realizes he's a jerk. I love that it shows the horrors of war. I appreciate its commentary on the "boy will be boys" mentality and how everyone loses out from it. I adore the duet we get between Annaleigh Ashford and Lindsay Mendez. I can't put this higher as I do see some faults in it bit makes me appreciate the work more. Like I said for If/Then, I don't believe in perfection.

Week 4, Blog Post Due 9/16

Q1. Why is having your “cultural-lens” zoomed out so vital in terms of perspective with intersectionality? 

In the experience of a judge dismissing Emma DeGraffenreid claim referred to in the TED Talk by Dr. Kimberle Crenshaw, we see a major lack of perspective. In this case, a car manufacturing company claimed that they had both racial and gender inclusion, yet they lacked Black women in their workplace (Crenshaw, 2016). So keeping the mind open to recognizing not only racial and gender bias but the two combined is important. Workplace structures and their culture within hiring need to be checked to ensure there is fair and equal chance for minorities to be hired and thrive within a company. Growth can occur when industries are challenged and held accountable for having a diverse and inclusive environment. Accountability is especially significant when recognizing broken systems in which our society was built upon. Bringing attention and confronting tragedies and injustices among minorities, more specifically Black Americans in this case, is needed in order for change. #SayHerName. 

Q2. Is there a way algorithms can be neutral and objective?

I would suggest we change algorithms as soon as possible if we want to reach the goal of algorithms being neutral and objective. I had never heard of algorithmic oppression prior to taking this course- which is frightening- so I believe educating people on the topic itself is a great place to start to head toward impartial algorithms. The more algorithms are built into systems the more we see minority groups be discriminated against. Minority groups are already at a disadvantage enough, to have another major entity in society to go up against is unjust. Moving toward a more equal and just society becomes slowed when prejudice is embedded within technological systems. Technology is a fairly new creation and can be a great use to move toward  but it is significant for these systems to be created right. Companies should be demanded by law to create unbiased algorithms and if they fall short of those expectations then I believe there should be consequences. When there are situations of racism due to an algorithm failing that are brushed off, it deems it okay for other companies to loosely create algorithms. In addition, when things are done fast there is more room for error. 

Q3. How do codes affect society?

As Ruha Benjamin states in “Race After Technology,” codes were made to control society itself, and to have certain expectations when presented a code (Benjamin, 2019). Once one is coded, it is hard to be un-coded, so to speak. As mentioned in this piece, once someone is entered into a gang database it can be very difficult, almost impossible to be removed. And you cannot ignore the fact they were entered into the database because of where they live based on zip code and their names. This is significantly unjust as these people entered in the database become monitored. And now they have to live their life in fear because their name and residential area deems them as a gang member? People’s names can also be a determining factor of whether they get a job, accepted into college, accepted for a credit card, granted a home loan, and numerous other circumstances.

Q4. How can unequal access to the internet increase inequality in today’s world?

As technology is such an exponentially growing entity, it is almost imperative to have access to the internet to be successful. Especially in the circumstances due to COVID-19, children who are without technological equipment to access school material can put them at a disadvantage. The internet has allowed for development economically and socially, yet it is not equally accessible for all social groups causing a larger gap in inequality.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection has been associated with the development of autoimmune processes.[1], [2], [3], [4] Molecular mimicry has been suggested as a potential mechanism for these associations.1 In an in vitro study, Vojdani et al. 5 showed that antibodies against the spike protein S1 of SARS-CoV-2 had high affinity against the following human tissue proteins: transglutaminase 3, transglutaminase 2, anti-extractable nuclear antigen, nuclear antigen, and myelin basic protein. As this is the same viral protein that the vaccine mRNA codes for, it is plausible that these vaccines may unmask autoimmune diseases in predisposed patients. Recently, several cases of immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) developing days after COVID-19 vaccination, have been reported to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), reinforcing the possibility of vaccine-induced autoimmunity.6

We have recently treated a 35-year-old Caucasian female in her third month postpartum, who developed autoimmune hepatitis after COVID-19 vaccination. During pregnancy, she was diagnosed with gestational hypertension and started on labetalol 100 mg bid. C-section was performed without any complications, and patient was discharged from the hospital on labetalol for blood pressure control. She resumed her job as a healthcare provider in mid-December, and received her first dose of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine on January 4th. After 1 week, she started developing generalized pruritus, then choluria, and finally noticed jaundice, presenting to the emergency room on day +13 after COVID-19 vaccination.

She had a normal physical exam, except for scleral icterus, jaundice and palpable hepatomegaly. In the emergency room, laboratories were significant for: bilirubin 4.8 mg/dl, AST 754 U/L, ALT 2,001 U/L, alkaline phosphatase 170 U/L, and ammonium 61 mg/dl. Laboratory results were negative for hepatitis A, B, and C, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), cytomegalovirus (CMV), herpes simplex virus (HSV) type 1 and 2, and HIV. At the time of submission, HEV had not been tested. Antinuclear antibody (ANA) was positive (1:1,280; homogeneous pattern). Double-stranded DNA antibodies were also positive (1:80). Other antibodies (i.e. anti-mitochondrial, anti-smooth muscle, liver-kidney microsomal, antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies) were negative. Total IgG was 1,081 mg/dl (normal range: 694–1,618 mg/dl). Ceruloplasmin, transferrin saturation, alpha-1-antitrypsin, TSH, and serum protein electrophoresis were all normal. Abdominal ultrasound with Doppler reported hepatomegaly without cirrhotic morphology, and no intra- or extra-hepatic biliary dilation.

Endoscopic ultrasound showed no evidence of biliary lithiasis or biliary dilation, and transduodenal liver biopsies were obtained. In Fig. 1 A–D we have included the slides of her liver biopsy and a full description of the histology. Liver biopsy was consistent with drug/toxin related liver injury, autoimmune hepatitis or infectious related etiologies. A PAS-D stain, CMV & HSV 1/2 immunohistochemical stains, EBV by in situ hybridization (EBER-ISH) and Grocott methenamine special stain for fungi were all negative. Other than the COVID-19 vaccine and labetalol, no other drugs, herbal supplements or toxins were reported by the patient. The Revised Original Score for autoimmune hepatitis pretreatment was 18 (results >15 suggest definite autoimmune hepatitis). Fig. 1E summarizes plasma ALT, AST, and total bilirubin over time, before and after treatment with prednisone 20 mg daily.

To our knowledge, this is the first reported episode of autoimmune hepatitis developing post-COVID-19 vaccination, raising concern regarding the possibility of vaccine-induced autoimmunity. As causality cannot be proven, it is possible that this association is just coincidental. However, severe cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection are characterized by an autoinflammatory dysregulation that contributes to tissue damage.1 As the viral spike protein appears to be responsible for this,1 , 5 it is plausible that spike-directed antibodies induced by vaccination may also trigger autoimmune conditions in predisposed individuals. In support of this, several cases of ITP have been reported days after COVID-19 vaccination.6

Several atypical features of her presentation deserve further discussion. First, immunoglobulin G levels were not elevated as typically reported for autoimmune hepatitis. However, Hartl et al. recently reported that ~10% of patients with autoimmune hepatitis had normal immunoglobulin G levels at presentation.7Second, histology revealed the presence of eosinophils, which are more commonly seen with drug or toxin induced liver injury. However, they can be found in cases of autoimmune hepatitis.8 It is also possible that we could be in the presence of a vaccine-related drug-induced liver injury with features of autoimmune hepatitis, as previously described for nitrofurantoin or minocycline.9 In line with this, the patient has already started a prednisone taper, as patients with well documented drug-induced AIH do not typically show relapses after steroid discontinuation.10 Finally, symptoms developed 6 days after vaccination, which instinctively appears as a short period of time. However, latency periods after vaccination of just days have been observed in prior reports.6 , 11

In summary, autoimmune hepatitis developed in a healthy 35-year-old female in her third month postpartum. Whether there exists a causal relationship between COVID-19 vaccination and the development of autoimmune hepatitis remains to be determined. We are hopeful that this manuscript will not discourage healthcare providers from getting and prescribing COVID-19 vaccines, but that it will raise awareness about potential side effects that will likely emerge as we continue to vaccinate more people. Only long-term follow-up of large cohorts of patients receiving the vaccine will answer the question as to whether it increases the risk of autoimmune conditions. Until then, healthcare providers are encouraged to remain vigilant.
