@heartsdefine said: “i feel like we got off on the wrong foot.” - korra @ lin
"You broken a dozen laws within an hour of being here, destroyed a city block and ran from my officers, causing even more damage to the city. They may have let you do whatever you want in the south pole, but being the Avatar won't get you special treatment here." Lin said, crossing her arms over her chest, glaring at the headstrong younger woman.

I want an episode of Korra but it’s just the safe house episode of Brooklyn 99 where Kevin is in danger so Holt puts him in a safe house and Jake stays with Kevin but then they dress up like perverts and go to a library. But instead of Brooklyn 99 characters, it’s Lin, Kya, and Korra.

❛ Well, well! It must be my lucky day today, being approached by such a beauty. ❜ from Bumi, for Lin
Tumblr media
Lin raises a brow. What unexpected flattery... or knowing Bumi, not unexpected at all. While he certainly had more in common with her than Tenzin had- she’d do well to not burn her fingers on that one despite the flattery being somewhat amusing if only for the fact it was just as bewildering as it was appreciated.

Minor Ailments Lin Beifong
After seeing all of these head cannon posts from @cold-neon-ocean, @orangepanic, and @wishingforatypewriter I’ve decided to join in on the fun
So I think Lin Beifong has quite a few health issues (both genetic and because she doesn’t take good care of herself) but we’re only getting into some of them today.
Lin is a busty woman and because of this she experiences a lot of back pain (but it’s alright because she has a fire bending boyfriend to give her warm massages)
Lin is constantly cold because of her fire nation lineage on her dad’s side. She’s not built for the brutal RC winters and she spends a lot of time outside working, further contributing to the problem. She wears lots of layers to compensate for this and sleep with a ridiculous amount of blankets. She also always borrows her partner’s coats and jackets. (Lin in Zolt’s jacket propaganda). Her hands and feet are always cold.
She always had nightmares even when she was a little girl. They never went away. They got worse after she was scarred. She kept dreaming about the incident and waking in a cold sweat for weeks afterwards. Over time the subject of her nightmares changed to other incidents on the job. When her and Tenzin were together it wasn’t an uncommon occurrence for him to be woken up by her screaming after a particularly bad dream. She avoids talking about her nightmares and is very embarrassed by them. After Amon took her bending she had ‘waking nightmares’ (hallucinations) that she never told anyone about.
Lin actually deals with numbness on the right side of her face because the scars caused nerve damage. She freaks when someone touches her scars because she can’t feel it and it frightens her.
Lin has a lot of scars on her body from incidents on the job. She has burn scars on her back from a fight gone wrong with some Agni Kai’s and a massive scar on her right thigh from an ice blade. She has a lot of little ones as well but those two are the most noticeable. She’s dislikes anyone seeing her scars and that’s why she dresses so modestly.

What about a Blades of Glory-inspired AU for Linzin and the Gaang kids?
Bumi and Tenzin are rival men's figure skaters.
Bumi is the wild, untameable womanizer who is the definition of sex on ice with a fierce confidence. He rides alone, enjoys (too much) hooking up with gals, and putting on the heat in the competitions for gold.
Tenzin is the figure skating child prodigy who skates with precision, grace, sophistication, and most importantly, perfection.
Just like in the movie, their squabbling and brawl over both of them winning the gold costs them their careers. The way back on the ice for competition is to team up.
As the world's first male-male pairs figure skating team.
Zuko was Bumi's coach. He retired after Bumi and Tenzin got banned from figure skating. After seeing Bumi do an effortless lift and toss of Tenzin (in yet another fight), he considers returning to the sport for another taste of glory and gold. One of the trainers that he's also worked closely with is Kya, who will help with choreography.
With inspiration from his Uncle Iroh's prestige as a former skater, known as "The White Lotus," Zuko developed the banned move, "The Iron Lotus."
What is it like training those two idiots?
Tumblr media
....Yeah.
Suyin Beifong and Bataar have been the reigning champions for pairs figure skating. For years. They are lovers, they are compatible, they are soulmates on ice.
Though they've known Bumi and Tenzin for many years, they never paid any attention to them. Why? They were never competition. But now, these two DITWITS could potentially steal all the limelight away from her and her sweet Bataar!
Lin is a physiotherapist who only started attending her little sister's competitions around the time Tenzin himself got banned.
Su, sensing the immediate attraction between Lin and Tenzin, tries to persuade her big sis to seduce airhead in order to extract secrets and info.
Lin and Tenzin, respected in their fields, are still clueless and awkward dorks. Of course they can find a way to make things work...right?

I was trying to write a scene for Falling Backwards but it turned into a ‘How Lin got her scars Au’
Tw torture, tw eye damage
Lin’s body started to shake and convulse, involuntary desperate movement trying to pull away from the men that held her head in place under the surface of the water in the troth. They pulled her back just as her vision started to blacken again and she desperately gasped for breath through the horrible cough brought on by the ice cold water in her lungs.
“She doesn't know!” Lin could hear Saikhan’s voice from beside her and she tried to shake her head but the men’s grip on her hair held her in place. She tried to steady her breathing but it was useless, her chest heaved as she caught her breath. Saikhan couldn’t break before she does. She’s been beaten and nearly drowned and he’s starting to worry for her, but soon it would be his turn. Lin didn’t have much time to collect her thoughts before she was being pushed back towards the water again. “No! No!” Saikhan tried to stop the men as they moved to push her head back under the water midbreath. Lin coughed and choked as the water splashed and spilled with her struggle. Lin’s vision faded as she thrashed and tried to kick out against her tormentors, her movements started to slow. She could barely hear Saikhan yelling, muffled by the water and her waning consciousness. Suddenly she was thrown onto her back on the floor, a wretched gasp pulled air into her lungs before she started to cough up the water.
“Boss won’t be happy you two were sniffing around.” one of the lackeys crooned.
“Yeah, best fess up why you’re here without orders.” another finished wrapping leather over his knuckles.
“Like I said, Zolt-” a painful blow to Saikhan’s jaw interrupted him.
“You’ll have to do better than that.” another painful blow. Lin rolled to her side to try to keep from choking on the water in her mouth, a harsh kick to her stomach rolled her back over as a boot pressed to her chest, limiting her breathing.
“Bastards-” Lin groaned as she struggled to breathe.
“Someone mentioned me?” Zolt himself appeared on the other side of the bars, his arms hanging into the cell nonchalantly.
“Zolt! Buddy, tell these idiots we’re here under orders.” Saikhan tried, but they knew they were made.
“Nah, there's no fun in that.” Zolt grinned then his smile fell as he saw Lin. “Wait a minute! Hold on a second my lovely gents. Is that anyway to treat the Chief’s daughter?” Zolt smiled wide now seeing who it was the two had captured.
“What are you talking about Zolt?” the heavy boot on her chest pressed down with more weight on her. Lin tried the ties holding her wrists pinned between the dirt and her back but they held fast.
“We’ve netted a Beifong, boys.” Zolt moved into the cell now.
“She- she's not!” Saikhan was floundering but trying, another harsh blow to his already swollen face and he was dazed, his eyes swimming as he tried to focus.
Lin scowled as Zolt came and pinned her with his own boot to her already aching shoulder, shoving the other guy away. “Hey Lin, remember me?” Zolt was more than enjoying this turn of events. It was only a handful of months ago he had been arrested in the streets after a confrontation with the young Beifong.
“You’re- Mistaken,” Lin coughed, her wet hair clung to her face as the water started to mix into mud under her head and shoulders.
“No, no I don't think I am.” he pulled a knife from his boot. “How about a lesson you learn this time?” He knew how they worked. He figured once they didn’t check in the place would be swarmed by RCPD officers and that was the last thing he wanted with the boss trusting him with this shipment. “A reminder to not try to cross me again?” His hand came down and gently brushed the hair clinging to Lin’s face away. Lin pulled her face away from the heated blade as he then moved to rest the sharp edge at the base of her jaw. His bending causing the blade to start to glow from the handle. Lin gritted her teeth at the burning cut.
“No! You can’t-” Saikhan received a quick kick to his gut in return.
Lin cried out as Zolt dragged the blade deep into her jaw and up her cheek, she tried to move her face away and he pushed harder the metal crossing her eye.
“One for trying to undermine me.” he growled, another harsh drag of his blade and a twin mark to the first appeared on Lin’s face. Lin couldn't help the scream of pain. The cuts were burned severely and her face was hot and stung as tears and dirty water fell into the new wounds. “And another so you won't forget me next time.” he kicked her so her damaged face was pressed to the mud now as he turned to Saikhan. Shock took hold of Lin as her vision blurred as she coughed and tried to bite back a sob. She heard Saikhan cry out in pain behind her before a heavy blow hit her from behind, her eyes rolled back and her body fell limp.
Lin and Saikhan were found the next morning out cold on the steps of the RCPD. The scars of her failure already too damaged to heal properly. Zolt’s brand clear on her face as a constant reminder. Saikhan vowed to never tell a soul and Lin left it out of the reports. The two were removed from the case. Lin was put on desk work until Toph was sure she learned her lesson about not reporting injuries correctly.
Still, rumors spread like fire in the under city and soon Zolt was promoted when people confirmed it was him who ‘took out’ Beifong.

Mission Accomplished
Here’s my submission for day 2 of Lin Beifong’s Week. You can also find it on AO3.
Pairing: Lin Beifong x Mako
Rating: T
Art made by JadeLotus💚
The last time he had checked the time, it was back in the precinct, and it was midnight then. There was no knowing what time it was now. When it came to waiting, one could never tell if hours had gone by a mere few seconds. Impatience was becoming of Mako in the same way hunger was for Bolin; all bets were off. There was no telling what either brother would do under those dire circumstances.
Lin on the other hand was infuriatingly patient. She had this knack for staring at the same spot for minutes without screaming at the nothingness.
“Chief,” Mako said, clearing his throat. “What if they gave us a false lead?”
“My source is very reliable,” she said without turning around.
The smell was starting to get too him too now. There was a thin slit between the dumpster and the concrete wall of the alley through which Lin was spying on the warehouse across the street. They were well hidden in the shadows of demolition and that giant, odor-laden container of indefinite squalor.
“Who is your source?”
Lin grumbled something incoherent in response.
Great, so this was getting to her too.
“Should we maybe leave? I don’t think anybody’s going to show up—”
“Shut it, Mako!” she growled, still not facing him.
“I just mean, it’s pretty late and—”
“And night time scares you?”
“What- no!”
“Then zip it and let me focus,” she said.
Mako sighed and moved towards her. He crouched down beside her even though there was no way he’d be able to see through that little slit without fully invading her personal space. He had binoculars too, but what good were they without a view?
So instead, he watched Lin. He considered her carefully. She was a lot smaller without her uniform, and that incited a sense of protectiveness in him. His mind began wandering. He wondered he’d do if Lin was attacked without her armor. If she was hurt and how she wouldn’t stop fighting until her last breath. She had that grit in her eyes. That tenacity in her frame. Her face would contort into her signature scowl- which now that he thought about- was cutesy pout without her armor.
He shook his head. No, Lin wasn’t cute. That wasn’t a word anyone would use to describe Lin Beifong. But somehow, at the core of Mako’s impatience, he found that 'cute' suited her just fine. He smiled to himself as he continued watching her. He pondered on the idea that Lin Beifong was cute and he would want to protect her at all costs. Possibly even wrap his arms around her to hold her safely.
So, when Chief Beifong turned around to see Mako with a cheeky smile spread across his face looking like he hadn’t experienced a thought in his whole life, she actually groaned. She rolled her eyes and turned back to watch the static warehouse.
Mako moved closer, and Lin could feel his presence against her side. He swallowed. He was growing more and more impatient and those fleeting thoughts about Lin weren’t helping his resolve. He needed to do something. Something about the bust or something about the tingling in his belly at the sight of his boss.
He wasn’t sure which one was going to combat, but he began anyway. “Chief, do—”
“Shhh!” she hushed him. “I see movement.”
Mako leaned over her, worming into her personal space and choosing to circle back to his feelings about that later. He saw three people exit the warehouse and he recognized them immediately. Iceman Wahkan, known for his ice blade attacks, Agni Kai leader, Zinji and Jargala Omo, the leader of the Creeping Crystal Triad. It was odd that these three were having a meeting but having worked with triads before, Mako knew that they were likely coming to some kind of understanding; territorial or so.
“What do we do now?” he asked.
Lin didn’t reply. Mako surmised that she was probably going to try and take them down herself. Typical Chief Lin Beifong.
“They’ll recognize us just as easily as we recognized them,” he said, standing up a touch. “We need to call for back up. There’s a good chance they’re not alone.”
“Shh!” she yelled softly, yanking him by his hand back down to the ground. She held his hand first, technically, Mako thought. Her hand was still loosely touching his but it was only because he stiffened his palm within hers, so they’d still be touching until she consciously moved her hand away.
“They’re crossing the road,” Lin narrated what she was seeing. Of course, she had paid no mind to Mako’s skin still touching hers. As she put on her coat over her black tunic, she snatched the binoculars from Mako’s other hand.
Tumblr media
“There's something in here. They’re entering this building to leave the city through the swamp behind,” she said, unaware of Mako’s eyes on her. The back door of this building was beside the dumpster, right where they were standing.
Mako and Lin were caught right in the middle of their exit scheme. The only thing worse than not catching criminals is letting the criminals catch you.
“Quick, we need to move. We can’t be made!” she scrambled.
However, instinct got the better of Mako and he pulled her by the door. He rammed her into the wall and with either hand grasping her waist, lifted her against his body.
“Mako, what do you think you’re—”
“Hiding in plain sight. We’ll blend into the darkness better than—”
“Jargala has great seismic sensing,” she said, wrapping her legs around Mako’s waist. It meant Mako’s feet needed to be off the ground too. He felt a brick sticking out the wall and quickly stepped on it, pushing himself further into Lin. Since there was only space for one of his feet, his other foot was hanging in the air and that brick was essentially carrying his and Lin’s weight. He hoped it wouldn’t give out. At least not until the bad guys were gone.
Mako’s face was painfully close to Lin’s. He could smell her hair, her neck, the coffee, her scent and—
There was a rattling sound. They were indeed using the back door next to them to escape. Lucky for them, the door opened outwards and would hide the two of them with their brick behind it.
Rightfully so, the door slammed open, slightly hitting Mako’s shoulder. Lin turned stiff against him and Mako’s arm pulled her closer into his body. Those idiotic sensibilities to protect Lin with his life were coming back.
Zinji was the last one to step out also the one who shut the door to the building. And of course, they noticed two people in the alley that was supposed to be empty.
That’s when a new impulse clouded Mako’s mind. He roughly pressed his lips onto hers, vaguely aware of the three-person audience they had acquired. As if privy to Mako’s most personal thoughts and fantasies, Lin kissed him back. She whimpered softly in his mouth and ran her fingers through his hair. She didn’t want to think about what she was feeling against her inner thigh that rested on Mako’s thigh, but she kept going.
Jargala snorted. “Horn dogs.”
Lin opened one eye and just as the three of them turned away from them, she pushed Mako away and in the blink of an eye, raised the ground and trapped all of them. For Jargala, Lin raised the metallic top of the dumpster, tore it in half and embedded it in the rocks covering the earthbender so she couldn’t escape. Criminals may be learning the old Beifong styles, but metalbending would always be a Beifong original.
“Run to the satomobile and call for backup, Mako. They’re going to have a long night behind bars.”
“Chief Beifong getting it on with the rookie,” Wahkan cackled as Mako left the scene.  He was half annoyed he didn’t have to hear the rest of it because Lin did, but the idea of never feeling Lin’s lips on his again saddened him even more.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mako stood by her side as the police-satos took the three criminals away. Their stakeout was a success, but Mako was feeling less than accomplished. He wanted to talk to Lin. No, he wanted to kiss her. Okay, okay, he wanted to talk about the kiss and then kiss her some more.
“They were hiding drugs inside the jennamite and distributing it amongst the triads,” Lin scoffed. “Morons.”
Mako gave her a tight smile.
“It’s almost dawn, go get some rest, detective,” she ordered. “We’ll reconvene at—”
“The engagement party!” he finished quickly.
“What?”
“Bolin and Opal’s engagement party?” He joined his eyebrows with concern and confusion. “It’s tonight.”
“Right,” Lin remembered. “I meant I’d see you at the station. There’s no way I’m letting you off this paperwork.”
“Right.”
“Good night, detective.” She began walking away.  But before he realized what was doing, Mako’s hand reached for her wrist and grasped it, pulling her back.
“Excuse me—”
“Go out with me, Lin. I mean,” he was choking, “I would like to go out with you- I want to take you out. No, I mean, take you out like on a date not take you out like kill you or- I should just stop—”
Lin stared at him. Her bottom lip was curled out and her brows were joined together like she was worried he was having a stroke or something.
“That kiss was- well,” Suddenly, those taunting comments he missed were coming back to him. He didn’t hear them but he knew the nature of its contents. Lin would never go out with a detective. They worked together. It was unprofessional and even if Lin did entirely enjoy the kiss, she still wouldn’t go out with someone with his dating records. He was hopeless.
So, he stood there, silently gaping at her face.
“I have to leave, detective. I am imaginably exhausted.”
He didn’t say another word after that. He simply watched her walk away from him and disappear into the night.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sparks of crimson, blue, white, and gold colored the sky. Bolin and Opal had a beautiful engagement ceremony and an even grander party. Suyin had pulled all the stops for her one and only daughter.
Something about the lights, the love or the celebration of companionship felt seemingly soothing. It wasn’t nearly as terrible as Lin had thought. So, she made her way to where a brooding young man stood with a glass of pomegranate champagne.
When her shoulder brushed against his, he turned to his side.
“You were right. I think sleep deprivation makes me delusional.”
Lin smirked. It hadn’t gone unnoticed by the firebender how gorgeous Lin looked in that green silk gown. He decided to allow himself a crush as long as he contained his feelings inside his head. He was all but appreciating beauty.
But surprisingly, she replied, “You were right too. That kiss was- well…” she shrugged nervously.
“Yeah,” Mako agreed with a shy smile. “It was a spur of the moment decision- I’m sorry I kissed you—”
“Don’t be!”
Now he turned towards her. She really was such a spectacular woman, and she was smirking at him. His heart was thumping loudly in his chest, and he briefly wondered if she could feel it from the Earth.
“Is the offer still open?” she asked innocently.
Mako smiled and looked at his feet bashfully. “Would you?" he shook his head, “Would you want to go out with me?”
“I’d like to,” she whispered and slid her hand into his. "We make a decent team."
Mako squeezed her hand and turned back towards the fireworks in the sky.
Chief Beifong was actually going to get it on with him. He smiled to himself at the thought.
Mission accomplished.

I'm curious, how would Lin interact around Kuvira's biological parents if they ever were to meet? How would they run into them?
Tell me about a time when Lin and Kuvira went on a date together and everything went so wrong it ended up going right. What would that look like?
Hmmm, I can definitely see the potential for drama here. I'm going to incorporate what we know about Kuvira and her biological parents from Ruins of the Empire. So, let's say that Suyin kept tabs on Kuvira’s parents' whereabouts after they left her in Zaofu, and although they never went back to check on their daughter, Su kept an eye on them for the unlikely scenario they returned to reclaim their daughter after all these years. Kuvira wasn’t aware of this, but Lin was given the information once Su found out about their relationship because their last known location was in a small village bordering Republic City. Lin thought Kuvira deserved to know this, prompting a difficult and emotional conversation. Kuvira, undertandingly bewildered upon hearing about her parents in her adult years, wavered between the curiosity to know about them and the bitterness and pain of having been left behind for so many years. After weeks of soul searching, they came up with a plan that would spare Kuvira the shock of meeting her parents after decades of abandonment. Lin agreed to go to the village to meet them and find out what kind of people they were now. To say the experience was excruciatingly awkward is an understatement: Kuvira’s parents didn't expect to see the Republic City Chief of Police at their doorstep and much less to find out that the six year old daughter they left in Zaofu was now a esteemed member of the force, but the father claimed they wanted nothing to do with her and that they had cut her off their lives that fateful day she was given to Su to mentor. On her way out, in her characteristic blunt demeanor, Lin spoke her mind (saying, among other things, "you don't deserve her" and "she has people who love her now"), as she left the house, visibly disgusted. Suddenly, Lin felt a tug on her shoulder, and when she turned around, she realized it was Kuvira’s mother. The woman looked at her tearfully as she extended an envelope to her. "I never agreed to what he did," she muttered, "but I was injured and couldn’t do anything. I know she won't forgive me, but I want her to know that."
Later that night in Republic City, Lin stood awake as she consoled Kuvira, as they made plans to return to the village one day.
"Whatever you choose, I'll be there with you every step of the way," promised Lin vehemently she hugged a sobbing Kuvira.
(Okay, who's peeling onions around here? Cut it out! 😭)
Okay, now on to the date. So let's say that after waiting months for a spot to be available in Republic City's trendiest restaurant, Kuvira finally managed to make reservations for date night. That night, everything seemed to go as planned: Lin loved the flower arrangement she sent to her office and showed enthusiasm for the jazz recital that would follow the dinner. But Kuvira felt as if a bucket of iced water fell over her when she saw the notice being posted on the restaurant door. Half of the kitchen staff fell ill so they wouldn't be able to open. Kuvira couldn't hide her disappointment and declared date night was ruined. One of the junior chefs who hadn't fallen sick overheard her and recognized the Chief. His father always told the story of how a then sergeant Beifong stopped the Shadowhawks Triad, who ran an extortion racket on their neighborhood. He approached Kuvira and offered to cook them a delicious homemade meal at his family's restaurant to make up for the disappointment. Despite Kuvira's hesitation, they accepted. What the place lacked in luxury and fame, it made up with the delicious food and the warmth of the people. After that experience, the modest restaurant became a favorite among the force, and for Lin and Kuvira, that date night became one of their most memorable to date.
Oops, these answers ended up running longer than I initially expected, but I hope you have enjoyed them. 😊

Fic: Tangerine Sorbet
Pairing: Lin Beifong/Bumi II
Rating: T
Summary: Lin and Bumi decide to go ice skating. And it goes perfectly fine, right?
****
In her dreams Lin flew. The crisp cool feeling on her cheeks, her hair moving with the breeze…the way she would cut through the air, it made her feel alive. Lin imagined it must be how otter penguins felt when they dove through water. Effortlessly free. What a feeling one could experience. Eyes closed in bliss, an easy smile grew. She didn’t want this moment to end.
But alas, all dreams do.
Beep beep-beep! Beep beep-beep! Beep beep-beep!
With a low groan, Lin rolled over in bed, searching to slam the snooze button of their alarm clock. Success. Peace and quiet has been restored once more. Arm slid heavily off the nightstand and hung over the edge of the bed. A resolute sharp inhale against her pillow to bring some semblance of wakefulness to her body before flipping over to her other side.
“Morning, Linny.”

Also actually a Weilin childhood AU still has me by the throat. The possibilities are endless.
Like, imagine the Beifongs coming to Republic City on business. Or maybe Su being proactive and trying to fix her relationships with Lin by visiting.
Wei and Bolin meeting before Mako and Bolin's parents died and becoming best friends in the whole wide world. Wei being so excited to have a friend who is just his friend and not a shared friend between him and Wing. They go to playgrounds and play fight and stuff. Bolin definetly begs Wei to show off metalbending and they make friendship bracelets out of metal beads for each other. They get ice cream and talk about each others lives. Bolin would absolutely be enamoured by the idea of Zaofu and Wei promises to take him one day.
And then one day, Bolin's parents don't bring him to the playground they usually meet up at. And Wei never sees Bolin again. Being a child, he couldn't even imagine that its because Bolin's parents just got murdered and he just assumes that Bolin doesn't want to be friends anymore. Maybe Wei cries a little, maybe he throws a tantrum.
The family eventually goes back to Zaofu and Wei sorta forgets about his first best friend ever.
Only for Bolin to one day arrive in Zaofu, as part of team Avatar, huge and buff and really, really handsome. And just as kind and sweet and adorable as he'd always been.
.... and he doesn't seem to remember Wei at all. Even worse, he looks to have a crush on Wei's sister!
Like I'm just spinning in my head right now.

Truth be told, the car ride back to her lavish penthouse was quite a highlight for her for most days, if only for the fact she could just sit back and stop talking after having been in meetings for the entire day. Still, to be accused of finding joy in them to the point of smiling! It wiped said smile right off of her face. ─── ❝ Eyes on the road, Bumi. I know I can pay fines and repairs in the events of a car crash but I’d much rather not. ❞
She’d do anything to just shut her brain off for a while, to not think of the preposterous and somewhat audacious deal some good-for-nothing company heir son proposed at the meeting table that day. It made her grind her teeth in frustration just thinking about it. ❝ Why don’t you turn on the radio, or talk about some pigeon you saw on sidewalk or just- Anything, really. ❞
