wahoo! my uncle had heart surgery (thankfully dodged the open heart surgery bullet) and so far things are looking alright, so I’ll be taking the weekend to just. do stuff. and then get caught up on emails and whatever else starting monday!
#I tried making a post about it earlier this week but I could not turn off the customer service sounding voice I kept slipping into#so I ended up deleting all of that but the tldr of it is that my uncle had a heart attack and the first attempt to place#stents didn’t work and the day after he went into cardiac arrest and they had to do cpr on him for 20 minutes#and I’ve spent a lot of time hanging out in the ICU for obvious reasons (visiting) but it looks like#attempt 2 at stents went well tho! provided everything is still looking good over the next few days 🤞🤞🤞

i watched mufasa today and was writhing in agony the whole time. partially because it was ugly. partially because the plot sucked. and not as much because i had horrifying period cramps.
#seriously tho i despise that movie#i did not want to go see it#but i also didnt want to be an asshole to my uncle who bought us tickets#it was a shit movie tho#hated it#i could point out a billion things i hated about it#EVERYTHING was cgi#every single character and the entire background#like atp just make an animated movie#but no instead i had to watch this weird uncanny valley between animation and reality#where everything is mildly unrealistic and weird but also way too realistic and weird#why do the lions growl and roar and whimper like lions but also talk like people#that bit was so weird#especially bc the lion voice never sounded anything like the people voice#one second youre growling like a wild animal and the next youre fucking james earl jones#like wtf#also it was odd to me that little kid mufasa was voiced by an adult and little kid kiara was voiced by a kid#like do the kid lions have human child voices or not?#it was so god damned confuzzling#the lions' faces were so emotionless. simone and pumba were annoying and unfunny and ugly as shit. the plot was bland and predictable.#i swear to GOD bro#you could have written all of the characters better.#give mufasa understandable and relatable flaws and attributes instead of making him Perfect#give taka understandable and relatable good bits and flaws instead of making him Evil#the characters had no nuance and no arcs#like i thought it would come into play that taka had undying loyalty to mufasa bc that was like literally how he was introduced#like his entire character from. the. START. was giving up his own honor for the safety of mufasa#but then he betrayed him? like what kind of a plot point was that?#also those white lions SUCKED as characters too#they had no nuances just malice

now that i'm playing dragon age: veilguard i understand hbomberguy so much better. think i could probably do a 3.5 hours long video called "dragon age: the veilguard is FINE and here's why"
#the writing in dragon age has Always been a bit clunky it's part of the charm#but yes there are sections in DAV that made me go “oh nooo”#but no it isn't as bad as people say#the mechanics are fun idc. it's bad that my new laptop can run all of BG3 fine but becomes laggy as hell in any city location in DAV tho#companions r generally charming and they're all professionals so it makes sense they're less prone to big fights than say DAO morrigan#but yes i do miss having a bit more tension in the party sometimes#the character creator is great for dudes but yea it would probably b cool if it were possible to have curvier bodies for those who want tha#but no it isn't literally impossible to make good-looking rooks. it's quite easy actually#and like yeah you can't have wildly out there body types but it's pretty cool that you can be a geralt type a twink or chubby as a dude#(i play male characters and have only done the female cc once for a custom f!inquisitor so i have more experience w that one)#the qunari also look. fine? the antaam don't look too soft or anything so far#the majority of complaints against this game were stupid and not rooted in anything real#BUT!!! i don't love it#solas continues to be a highlight#lucanis is great so far and i love neve#neve's voice acting is amazing#she manages to make some very disappointing lines sound good#but..... i can't pretend the writing *isn't* awkward in places#d'meta's crossing stands out to me as a pretty bad case of overly direct storytelling#(spoilers) talking to the mayor was deeply disappointing! he just TOLD rook what he did and why. it felt so anticlimactic#especially bc the imagery in the village was striking and grotesque#but there didn't feel like there was any payoff#other sections have been great#but DAV just feels like it completely lacks subtlety at times#the other DA games haven't always been masters of show dont tell but this section felt like a first draft#like someone was working out the story and didn't have time to polish the script at all before the voice actors were called in#idk it really stands out to me as bad#also yeah it's noticeable that you don't really get to do evil things. at least not yet

Story type podcast or fiction like nightvale was a bit difficult to start for me. i like nightvale now i#listened. but i worry that is clocking in my brain as an Exception 😔 maybe it would be easier if i tried some nonfiction books? scary#i also struggle with single host podcasts apparently even tho im also ehhhh on the kind where the structure is the host Interviewing a#different person everytime? maybe it would be okay with a nonfiction audiobook tho cos it would be getting read by a narrator and not sound#so much like a guy ranting into a mic which makes me feel a little insane. altho propaganda doesnt necessarily always sound like a guy#ranting into a mic so idk. i could probably make it through if i can find a nice book about like. parasitic worms. i could tolerate#feeling like im falling into sigma male affirmations videos for worms i think. wormffirmations are allowed#*to clarify i dont listen to those but listening to better offline makes me feel like im morphing into the kinda guy who does and i hate it#which feels unfair cos he is RIGHT and the podcast is good but i need there to be like a cohost there to break the tension of the Ranting#sometimes he has guests on? but its not quite the same#i think the format i like best is either like 2 or 3 regular cohosts discussing things within a specific topic#OR. 1 host whos like infodumping to the other host who knows nothing about the subject. All I'm sure of voice-wise is that Ash should still be voiced by Rica Matsumoto even if older!!! I adore that woman's voice WAY TOO MUCH and just having her do a deeper/more mature tone would be ideal for me QAQ
For Dawn, I guess any Masters' Dawn VA could work for an older Dawn? Or maybe one of the Akari VAs
