byleth: nonbinary, uses they/them. is amused by gender. the gender was stolen by the brain goblin child. you can't misgender them - they are ascended beyond gender. however, the brain goblin demands she/her pronouns.

camilla: trans woman. open & passes. is the trans mother to younger trans femmes. helps get others started on their medical transition journeys. learned magic to help pass when she was younger. realized she is a woman early in life & was able to start interventions before puberty, counts herself as very lucky to. helps her siblings with their transitions, and hides the transitions from king garon when he started to lose himself.

charlotte: cis, but uses she/her & neos.

chrom: nonbinary. learns about nonbinary from robin and has a :O moment about it. does not have the need to transition, and leans more masc & neutral terms. doesn't use other pronouns actively but is cool with someone using feminine terms & she/her pronouns for him. the man cant make up his mind, he's nonbinary, bisexual and a vers. needs to inform himself more on gender & open to listening to others' experience.

dimitri: stealth trans man & passes, opens up to those closest to him. bound every second of every day except for when he was alone in his room for sleep. bad top dysphoria during pre timeskip. has lopsided twin scars on his chest he's not super proud of, as he gave himself a double masectomy during the timeskip. cannot grow facial hair to save his life, even after being on a potion that helped with secondary traits. decently hairy everywhere else except the face. has decent bottom growth, and proud of it.

forrest: bigender. uses all pronouns. prefers to be seen as a man if one Must Gender Him One Way, but unfortunately occasionally gets misgendered. likes to design trans-friendly clothing, for those who are both out & proud, and those who want to disguise & emphasize curves as needed to be stealth. wears stays and corsets because they can & he's iconic for that. became a troubadour for the vibes.

hector: passes, grows facial hair while using potions. gets very hairy & bulks up significantly. does not bind, uses support when wearing armour or working out. disappeared for a year from the public while pregnant with lilina.

robin: agender - uses any & all pronouns - both standard sets & neopronouns. doesn't mind someone using feminine terms, but appreciates when someone uses gender neutral & masc terms greatly. does not make a fuss about it, but also isn't afraid to speak up if someone has offended him. is wlw & mlm & also het but also not.

kamui: agender - uses they/them exclusively, likes dresses & kimono, uses testosterone until they feel like they've masculinized enough & stops. likes the look of their body, and doesn't plan on medical transitioning farther than using hrt to certain body goals. fears a transformation outside of their control if they did try and seek out procedures.

luc: trans man, passes & is proud & open about being trans. did not realize he was a boy until he disguised himself as marth. uses the names marth & luc interchangeably. lucina is his government name & he doesn't bother changing it because he feels like it's not super gendered. he just prefers other names. microdoses testosterone using a gel & has no other transition goals.

sharena: trans girl, uses she/her exclusively & passes well. sharena traded for alfonse's deadname with a pile of snacks & changed it up. takes estrogen pills & a hormone blocker. she's a year on e & keeps track of her anniversary dates. she has plans for some procedures for further help with feminization - mostly with the shape of her face. grew her hair out before she realized she is a girl.

tharja: uses she/they/neo pronouns - mainly ey/em/eir & ae/aer. doesn't really care, but hates that people only often see them for their body. would rather read a book than be around people. books can't objectify her. is both wlw and mlm.

yuri: gets gendered correctly, is open about being Not Cis. binds and times it. wears supporting garments when not binding. talks openly about shared experiences as an afab person & will share products to those who need it & thinks that menstruation products should be free & available to anyone who needs them. he likes to drop little tidbits about being afab into conversations for minor confusion for those who know he's transmasc.

for any chrobin shippers who depict chrom-fathered morgan, where do you generally depict morgan’s brand of the exalt :0 (not too fussed about gender but i generally write male morgan to be the one related to chrom) im sorta torn between having it on the back of his hand like the defile brand or on his back because i like a shameless jojo reference or two.. but i know some other people may decide to put it somewhere else which is what im surveying 😼 no poll cuz i dont wanna account for all the possibilities. just chatting 😊

More from anon with the family into Fire Emblem, since you guys seem to think it's cool: my parents deadass just named me after a Fire Emblem character (from Path of Radiance specifically, that was my dad's favorite). Like they liked the name for other reasons but that was how they thought of it. (I transed my gender and chose another name, but I picked a name that is still from FE because I am also a nerd)

Also my mom is a huge fan of Chrom and thinks my dad looks like him. He was planning on getting an Exalt's Brand as a tattoo on his arm for his 50th birthday, alas COVID hit at that time so he never ended up getting it.

MORGAN HEADCANON POST!!!

so i have posted my elaborate “the robins are separate entities and siblings” headcanons and i think i’ve said too many damn times that i wanna extend a similar headcanon post for morgan and now it is TIME!!

the girl one

robin’s adopted daughter. parents died after grima goes bananas and robin decided to take her under his wing. i like to think robin held out a little longer than the rest of the shepherds once the apocalypse started so he was able to teach morgan what he knew. plus she self taught herself magic and tactics using his notes even when he’s dead

can be blunt, hates being the butt of the joke, but has a pretty dry and witty sense of humor. sometimes clashes with lucina’s inability to pick up on jokes

since she was a kid when grima goes bad, she is the oldest among the second gen. older than lucina by a few years perhaps

has a close sisterly relationship with lucina. she and lucina sort of reflect robin and chrom’s relationship in the group, with the exalted leader having a wise magic man by their side. given the situation in their family tree (though morgan is adopted, she is still lucina’s cousin) i’d refrain from defining it as anything romantic (besides i hc lucina to be aroace anyway. queerplatonic relationship, perchance)

since morgan was only able to cross paths with lucina and the rest of the second-gen shepherds through her adoption from robin, it is unlikely that she will meet lucina in the good future or at least have the same very close relationship with lucina since she’ll be raised by her bio parents. (one may argue that none of the second-gen shepherds will meet or form a close band without the backdrop of acopalyptic bonding in the good timeline, but the point is that morgan will live a significantly different upbringing if the grima threat is taken care of). lucina sometimes worries about this possibility, but morgan’s conviction to change the future for the better is stronger than this uncertainty. this conviction was also probably inspired by lucina’s drive to change fate

chrom and reflect (girl robin)’s son from… a different future. he does not hail from the same doomed timeline as lucina and the rest of the kiddos. instead, he’s from a timeline where grima was vanquished with the falchion (keeping reflect/the vessel alive). he was born shortly after the war ended (though in actuality he’s born after chrom and friends leave smash bros but that’s a whole other can of worms)

the youngest of the future kids

due to his unawareness of the apocalyptic future and grima in general, he has a much more jovial attitude compared to the rest of the kids

brash and a bit of a jock

has a little bit of aptitude in magic from his mom, but he has no interest in actually touching a book

lucina (and the rest of the kids) were confused about this guy’s existence and why he was sent to the past but they embrace him as one of their own anyway (he still doesn’t really know what’s going on)

tbh i have even less going on with him, but i think exploring the silly sibling dynamic he’ll have with lucina should be fun in future projects

his design is kinda messy atm, i do not know if ill fully settle on the one here idk

OH and lastly: his mark of the exalt has not surfaced yet at his age, but i think it’ll appear on either the back of his right hand (like the defile brand) or on his upper back (jojo reference). or maybe even in his right eye like inigo (but that sorta feels like his thing so i don’t wanna rip it off lmao)

FUN FACTS NOBODY ASKED FOR:

The face cards did not align this way naturally. All of them had to be zoomed in at least twice, most four, and a few had to be scooted over a little to avoid being cropped in the wrong places or to fix general alignment issues

The game doesn't properly support transparent images, so I had to give each face card a background; really all I did was colour drop the deck's base colour and use that as the background so it would match

Each face card was shrunk to the card's base dimensions [422x562] with the background being twice that size [844x1124] to allow for easier placement without running into a black background because of said transparency issues

I didn't make any changes to the playing background. I just set it and left it as is

The card backing isn't quite aligned in the center, but I have no motivation to try and fix that right now

The backing border was completely unintentional. I chose that deck to build off of simply because of the gold rim around the face-up cards. I didn't realise it would come with a backing border, but hey it works

I chose Fable as the base theme to build off of for two reasons: 1. Aesthetic™, and 2. The background music is the closest to Fire Emblem music the game has [I really wish you could choose your own in-game ambience instead of having to use a preset theme first]

The stars effect has no real impact on the theme, I just like it

I initially wanted Ferdinand to be the Jack of Diamonds, but I didn't want to use his pre-skip design, which is all Heroes had, so Forde was chosen instead

Takumi was briefly considered for Jack of Diamonds and King of Clubs before those roles went to Forde and Eliwood

Ishtar was going to be the Queen of Clubs, but I decided three Genealogy characters was enough, so Michaiah took this spot

Other candidates for Queen of Clubs were Cherche, Celica, Seiros, and Eirika

I went with the Chrom!Inigo edit instead of normal Inigo or Lazward simply because Chrom!Inigo is best Inigo and you cannot change my mind

Alm, Michaiah, and Forde are the only ones who use official art instead of Heroes art. I preferred Alm and Michaiah's official art while Forde isn't even in the game yet [get on that, IS]

I originally wanted to use Edelgard's official post-skip art as I didn't [and still don't] like how her Heroes art sharply cuts off, but it ultimately clashed badly when trying to align it, so I had to use her Legendary alt [her pre-skip and Three Hopes designs were out of the question from the get-go]. I aligned the cutoff with the edge of the card as best I could and I'm surprised it worked

The only set in stone characters from the very beginning were Eltshan, Seliph, and Inigo. The rest I decided as I went on

Tiki was completely spur of the moment. As soon as I remembered she existed, I was like "Oh yeah, adult Tiki would be a perfect Queen of Hearts". I saw her Brave alt and didn't look back

I briefly considered using Eltshan's performance alt, but decided against it

While I knew I wanted Seliph as the Jack of Hearts, I initially wasn't sure which version to use, but I ultimately went with the version I liked the most, which was his Brave alt

Lewyn was a toss-up as to which version I wanted to use, but I went with his festival alt as I liked it more than his normal version

Other characters I considered but with no solid placement were Sigurd, Arvis, Lucina, Ayra, Soleil, Dorothea, Olivia, Deirdre, Say'ri, Elincia, Ryouma, Innes, Tana, Ephraim, Felix, and Constance

Inigo and the aces required some additional editing to remove their white backgrounds before setting up the off-white backgrounds they were supposed to have for this set. I worked on Inigo's for so long trying to edit out lossy pixels around the edges of his art that the editor crashed on me. Hurray for autorecovery

wish intsys did a little more owain and his brand cuz as far as i remember, and i could be very wrong its been a while since i last binged supports/dlc dialogue, but it’s mostly used for lissa and ophelia’s characters rather than his own which definitely makes sense for owain’s purpose as a comic relief character, but i wish it did more for him as a person. specifically the fact that he loses it as odin, and while i think that you could say he was sad about it, which i think he probably was, i think he was probably more relieved in a sense? not in a “FUCK the brand of the exalt i HATE it” kind of way obviously, but in a “i’m finally free from the expectations from my heritage” kind of way you know? cuz he does admit to having feelings of inferiority and in adequacy to chrom and lucina, which he probably wouldnt feel as much if he wasnt connected to them by blood. i feel like, for him, his brand could be both a symbol of pride but also ineptitude. and once he’s in a world without lucina and chrom and without the mark on his arm (???? i think) he might feel a little more free.

Not sure if you're interested in an alternate potential explanation of Naga's treatment of Robin (since iirc you've had a lot of Naga-related asks on this blog in the past and got into some complex character development with them, right?) But I think it's interesting that you and many others see Naga as being cold or even outright rude to Robin, when I personally always thought she was trying to be respectful to them. (1/3)

That's a fascinating way to look at it! I always love hearing different takes and explanations that people have for canon events, and this is an interesting angle.

I think a big part of the reason I interpret it as disrespectful is the sheer weight of history between Naga and Grima. Naga gave her blood to the First Exalt with the specific intent of killing Grima -- or, in this case, sealing them away, and she states in Chapter 24 after the Awakening ritual that "[Grima] seeks only to add to his power, and set ruin upon the world." Her insistence that Grima's only purpose is destruction gives the implication that Naga views Grima in a negative light; on top of that, she doesn't just tell Chrom how to use the Exalted Falchion's power, she physically accompanies them to the final battlefield, which has always led me to believe that Naga doesn't view Grima as a natural part of the world's order, like necessary destruction to balance ongoing creation, but instead considers them to be a threat to that order that must be quelled or eliminated. She may admit that neither of them are gods, and don't possess the power to destroy one another, but that doesn't equate to respect in my mind.

With that coming at the close of Chapter 24, coming straight into Chapter 25 to see Naga calling Robin 'Fellblood' to their face does feel like a slap in the face. If Naga has a negative opinion of Grima, it stands to reason that addressing Robin by their lineage rather than their name -- a lineage she just said was tied to a dragon who sought only ruin -- comes across to me as a barely veiled insult. Robin seems pretty insecure about their connection to Grima at this point, given that they now know that in another timeline they killed their dearest companion, so rubbing that in feels pretty callous from where I sit in the audience, having been close to Robin throughout 25+ chapters and multiple hours of gameplay.

I also think it's worth considering that not all forms of address are equal. 'Awakener' is very clearly a title given out of respect, proof that Chrom was worthy of the Exalted Falchion by virtue of surviving the Rite of Awakening. It's something like a knighthood, where he was tested and rewarded with a title in addition to the sword. 'Fellblood' doesn't appear anywhere else in the game, but it's never struck me as a respectful address given the generally negative view of Grima held by Naga's worshippers. The connotation strikes me as similar to someone calling Soren 'Branded' rather than his name in Path of Radiance.

Ya'll want some Fire Emblem Awakening headcanons?

Headcanon 1:

In general, Morgan would be just as good a candidate to be Grima's vessel as Robin. Why in general? If Morgan's non-Robin parent is Lissa, Owain, Chrom, Lucina, or whoever Chrom's other child is, this makes Morgan a less good candidate due to the blood of Naga. If Morgan's non-Robin parent is Tharja or Henry, however, this makes Morgan a *better* candidate than Robin, due to the natural dark magic in Morgan's blood

Headcanon 2:

Each of Chrom's potential kids have the brand of the Exalt in different spots. Game confirms that Inigo has it in the opposite eye as Lucina. So my headcanon is that: Kjelle has it on her midriff, Brady has it on his back, Cynthia has it on her leg, and Morgan has it on the same hand Robin has the Mark Of Grima

Headcanon 3:

Theoretically, Robin could harness the some of Grima's powers. But it would be difficult to control. And he/she wouldn't be able to use all the powers Grima has. Robin would grow the six wings, and have 6 eyes and her/his voice would distort at the max he/she could use. However even getting to that point would be difficult. Minimum power has the Mark Of Grima glow. If Grima is defeated, then Robin looses this ability. Morgan and Robin's other child also have these abilities. See headcanon 1 for Morgan, and Robin's other child will always have weaker abilities (and easier to control) than Morgan or Robin

Headcanon 4:

Morgan has the Mark Of Grima on the opposite hand as Robin. And Robin's other child also has it. Though it's in a different spot depending on the child:

FALLEN EXALT CHROM GUSHING GO!!!

1.) I've seen people begging for this alt since forever, even before I actually got into FE proper!!! Y'all won!!! As far as I know, this is spun-off of a card from the FE TTCG since the armor is different but the whole vibe is still intact! Man looks so beautiful omg

2.) He's doing the Chrom™ pose!!!

3.) The Mark of Grima is really easy to find in this design and Chrom's bow looks like Grima's horns. He wears a crown like Aversa's/Gangrel's and, as another person pointed out to me, the place where he was stabbed by Robin glows! Nintendo, that is vile!!!

4.) It's a bit hard to tell but I think this is also another Chrom pose reference, I hope! You can see his Brand peeking out from under his broken sleeve and it ACTIVATES MY BRAIN. This man lost everything and covered up the symbol of his family and duty but he can't escape it, just like fate 😭. The whole theme of FE13 is that you can decide your fate but Fallen Exalt Chrom's voice lines are just about how you/he can't change fate- ouch

5.) You can kinda see it in the other sprites but here you can see the hilt for Falchion really well. Despite having an entire wardrobe change Chrom still wears Falchion's hilt even though he doesn't have it- Lucina probably does and this hurts my soul so much oml

Honestly I don't put much into Heroes exclusive dialogue, I mean remember them saying the Hero King(Marth) had a Brand of the Exalt or Medeus went crazy in a peaceful world?

I get the inclination to think that way. Character dialogue from any source other than their original text or a direct sequel/prequel always feels a bit dubious, I think, for a lot of reasons. And Heroes as a writing context has a lot of things that make the writers' jobs even harder; among them the fact that we're divorcing the characters from their original story context, we have no space to create anything like a character arc for summoned heroes, and we have a very limited number of dialogue lines in which to communicate summoned heroes' existing personalities and provide insights on who they are.

But I think that to dismiss all Heroes content outright is to dismiss a lot of genuinely good stuff!

The Heroes writers and designers definitely fumble some things. I can't speak to inaccuracies in Marth and the gang, never played those games, but there's definitely some moments where they've tripped over their own feet with regards to characters I'm familiar with. (I'm looking at you, Fell Exalt Chrom's Forging Bonds: Depths of Despair support convos and the murkiness of which timeline you belong to.)

But I think that inaccuracies like that are a natural, if unfortunate, result of working within the limitations of a crossover gacha game as well as trying to track and write about the sheer ridiculous number of characters and mainline games in the franchise. They're going to miss details or have a different angle on something than the writers of a character's original game sometimes, it's inescapable.

The result is that most Heroes content concerning characters other than Heroes-originals is in an interesting sort of semi-canon place to me. The dialogue for, say, any particular Chrom unit in Heroes, is no more or less canon to Awakening's original plot and story events than any piece of dialogue Chrom has in Warriors or Engage. But just like his dialogue in Warriors or Engage, I think it can be interesting to analyze and can provide fun insight to his character.

The fans, the Heroes devs, and the mainline FE games are in a constant dialogue with each other, deciding who these anime people are and putting them in fun situations to see what they'd do, and I like to analyze and play with what they give me. :]

And also, to keep it real with you: I'm primarily an Awakening fan, and Heroes is pretty much the only reliable source of new official content for the characters from this 12 year old game. I take what crumbs we get and I stretch em like I'm trying to feed a family of four during the Great Depression. :P

HI I'M GOING TO RAMBLE ABOUT FIRE EMBLEM AWAKENING CUTSCENE WHERE LUCINA REVEALS HER IDENTITY TO CHROM

first of all CRIES LOUDLY

second of all...... it's so good... i wanna ramble through what this cutscene makes me feel...

it starts out with this sorta melancholy or mysterious kinda music..

it pauses slightly as the camera focuses in on the Brand of the Exalt in Lucina's eye, Chrom noticing so.....

it cuts to showing that same brand on Chrom's shoulder, the music swelling slightly to the high note as he makes his realization, then gently falling again as he looks down....... (oohhhh that's so good it matches SO WELL)

the music fades as Chrom says that iconic line... "You deserved better from me than one sword and a world of troubles."

and "I'm sorry." as the camera is focused on Lucina's branded eye again, tears welling up........

the music returns, more emotional as Lucina starts crying, but it swells back into more hopeful higher strings as Chrom reaches out to her face and brushes the tears away!!!!!! and there's the main leitmotif of awakening!!!!!!! as Lucina calls Chrom "Father" for the first time in the past!!!!!! and their hug!!!!! and i'm crying!!!!!!!!! and i love this cutscene i feel like i'm not doing it justice but auughgghgh!!!!!

So are chrom/robin just canon now? With legendary robins title, his wedding ring, and the brand of the exalt on his armor (which we know only members of the royal family can wear), PLUS his official promotion on FEH social medias, it really paints chrobin as a “fanon” to a “maybe canon in some alternate world”. It’s weird. Not bad but odd, I was expecting INSTYS to back off after the valentines duo but I guess they’re just going all in.

Lol, it feels like that one Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun scene... You know, where they realized that given the events of the game, the perfect love interest for the best friend character had to be the protagonist?

Someone at Intsys 10 years ago: Who should we choose as Chrom's implied love interest? I'm leaning towards the cute, clumsy pegasus knight, but...

Whoever's writing for FEH now: Someone who's special to Chrom... Someone who would stay by him day and night even if they both fall down... Someone that Chrom can dedicate his future to... Someone who would stay by his side and confide their feelings to him... *gasp* That's totally Robin!

I feel the First Exalt from Awakening is a character, Intelligent Systems doesn't know what to do with and regrets to some extent.

Fire Emblem Heroes has Lissa claim to Edelgard that the brand came from the Hero King(Marth) that defeated Grima 1000 years ago, when that was all the First Exalt and Marth was a pure human that never met Grima and lived 3000 years ago.

Similarly Young Emmeryn claims her Father always talked about living up to the Legacy of the Hero King, when as a man doing a crusade against the Grimleal, its obvious he would care more about the First Exalt whom actually fought Grima and likely the human followers that became the Grimleal.

Fire Emblem Warriors also has Chrom and co go on about the Hero King with no mention of the First Exalt.

Conversely Awakening's Ylisse doesn't care much about the Hero King, whom is only mentioned in one easily missed line in an optional support Male Robin can have with Tiki. Instead they constantly talk about the First Exalt all the time. They don't even seem to remember Marth's actions outside of non specific legends.

I also feel the First Exalt's lack of a face, design or even a name, hurts the character as well, as it means it is unlikely they'll ever appear in Fire Emblem Heroes.

All in all, I think Intelligent Systems is trying to bury the character to some extent, instead focusing on the Hero King Marth.

ooc. u know something to think about the royal exalt family was really on the verge of being wiped out. like the fact we dont know who is carrying the bloodline but assume it is the father, we dont see uncles or aunts who can bestow the brand to their kids; so it means it is up to emmeryn, chrom and lissa to keep the bloodline alive. the bloodline of the first exalt, of the hero king. wow ...talk about fucking responsibility huh. i wonder if this influenced emmeryn to not marry and give birth because she felt too shackled by this, but i honestly doubt it. she wouldnt want to let chrom and lissa shoulder this responsibility. i think it is more because time was not on her side. she was just 28 when she was offed so she still had time but gangy dastard didnt wait for that to happen huff.

but yeah. it makes sense why lissa, too was super worried about her brand not showing up. it means she feels like throwing that burden now all on chrom to keep the bloodline alive but hey, best girl gave birth to best boy yehaw!

but the question now about the future children bestowing their brands to their kids and their kids bestowing them to theirs ...talk about heirs to the throne who are not even known to the public.
