anyways now is the time to say that kodaka talking about taka’s “childhood friend” out of nowhere does not take away from taka and mondo’s friendship. i’m willing to make the argument that, if anything, it adds to it.

someone just made a post translating kodaka’s bluesky post (i’ll link it right here. i find it to be really interesting), and a buddy who can also translate japanese to english came to a similar conclusion. tl;dr: this “friend” was a little shit who pushed taka around and was generally inconsiderate of him until he moved away. it’s also important to say that this guy was also very different than taka. some would say that they were polar opposites.

so just think about it. kiyotaka was part of a toxic friendship with someone who constantly undermined him and took advantage of him. and the feelings of friendship were one-sided. he was bound to realize that hey, this isn’t how friendships are supposed to feel like. most likely that realization came after they split because i feel like taka would’ve been the type to call out this friend on his behavior if he noticed it beforehand.

who knows? it might’ve played into why taka didn’t build those types of relationships much after that?? it could’ve been a serious possibility that taka was scared to make another friend because something like what he had with that boy would happen again. he just thinks that he is incapable of having a normal friendship because no one sees him as a good contender to have a normal friendship with. maybe he even tells himself that it’s fine and that friends distract him from studying, so it’s actually GOOD that he won’t make anymore friends.

then he meets mondo. this other boy who is so different from him and seems like the type to be weak enough to get a laugh out of taking advantage of others. and he hated him for that.

but then he gets to know him, and he finds out that mondo is so much more than that. he’s caring and passionate and a fighter for the things he believes in and the people he loves. while he may come off as a bad egg on first glance, taka knows that he is so much better and so much stronger than that boy he once knew. and for once, he’s able to open himself up and let someone else be his friend again. and it’s the best decision he’s ever made because mondo is the best friend he could’ve ever hoped for.

i’m sorry. mondo is not only the friend that present taka deserved, but also the friend that past taka deserved. so yeah, honestly it’s a neat detail. i know that kodaka only mentioning it now may make it seem retcon-like, but eh. it doesn’t take away anything from taka’s story and personality. i feel like it adds a lot more. thanks for coming to my ted talk.

(also shoutout to edge for pointing out that this “friend” could be the reason why taka’s knee-jerk reaction to doing something he thinks is wrong is to beg for someone to hit him. yikes. but it’s a possibility.)

Do you ever think about how almost all of N’s Pokémon throughout the first games were one offs he released after he battled you, how he cared about them all deeply enough that he thought it would be selfish to have them battle more than necessary. And do you ever think about how this is the case with all his Pokémon EXCEPT his Klinklang in the final battle at the league, where the second to last battle he had a Klink and this Klinklang is very likely that same Pokémon? Do you think this was a visual representation of his mindset wavering from a fixed point? How that Klink refused to leave him right away and he couldn’t bring himself to force them to leave because his mind is in so many different directions? He can keep them around just a little longer until he becomes champion, it won’t be long, he can bend things some so long as he doesn’t fully stray from his path…right?

Or is that just me am I the only one willing to be insane about Klinklang of all Pokémon

youre really gonna have to bear with me on this one. but if the adventure zone balance was like a serialized tv show that ran for like 11 seasons and so had plenty of time to fuck around and do weird side plots and one off character study episodes i think there would be b plot to some episode or another where kravitz gets assigned to reap a ghost orchestra thats causing phantom of the opera style chaos at an old theater but realizes theyre only haunting the place because they want to play music again but dont have a conductor so he conducts a final performance for them and they are at peace having resolved their unfinished business and he gets to finally be a conductor . i just think that would be cool .

I kept debating how to end this short little mini comic. In the original script, they were gonna hold hands (scandalous, I know lmfao), but I didn't think it hit quite right in comic format when I tried to make it longer. Hence why it ends... like that.

Anyways I wrote like a ton of comic scripts for COTL comics that just didn't hit right / I couldn't commit to making and then when driving home from work last week in the pitch darkness I thought about how nice it is to see like actual stars. And I feel like with the cult grounds being kind of among a lot of trees and all that it might take a short hike to get a really, really, really good view of the night sky and stuff. Thus. This.

It's arguably not my best work (I'm out of practice drawing good night skies and all that) but I'm happy with it. Enjoy this thing I made

My brain literally would not let me rest until I got this out of my system, so here we are.

Okay, so - Future Donnie's canon design sure is a thing. I actually love the concept, mechanic aesthetic is great for Don, but I'm not crazy about the all-black waders/overalls they're just...they're a choice. Definitely a choice. So I figured it was time to update those old Future Donnie designs I made awhile back (which, surprisingly, weren't too far-off? I got the pants pockets right at least, lol)

Here are some of my own takes on the new look. I challenged myself to try and stay as close to the canon design's over-all (haha) vibe as I could, so they don't differ too drastically. Just a few alternative ways to do basically the same concept. For funsies.

***Zero disrespect intended towards Andy, for the record. He's giving us the content we've all been craving and he's the realest one for that! (Also, the overalls aren't that bad, tbh? I think it's just the all-black inking that makes them look kinda off in the preview image.) Still super excited for the full comic to finally be released AAAAAAAA!!
