Genuinely curious what the original plan for Android 16 was.
It's widely known that the plot of the Android arc changed multiple times over the course of the series. 19 and 20 were originally intended to be the arc's true villains. In fact, Trunks calls them out by serial number when he's first giving the infodump about his future.
Tumblr media
This isn't a Viz-ism, either. He says "19 and 20" specifically in the original Japanese.
Tumblr media
Those two Androids, not 17 and 18, are the ones ravaging his future. However, as is commonly known, Toriyama's editor former editor and currently a trusted friend Kazuhiko Torishima was unimpressed by the Androids' design.
The funny thing is, this isn't the only glaring plot hole that the abrupt shift in plot created. It's easy to pin down 20's flight to his lab as the moment Toriyama switched gears, because he's forced to bring in Bulma to rerail it onto the new story - creating another massive plot hole in the process regarding what Bulma knows.
See. In addition to Trunks clearly identifying 19 and 20 as the Androids, this scene three years in the past had another moment that becomes an issue later on. It's when Bulma says this:
Tumblr media
See, Trunks has explained that Dr. Gero is creating the Androids as we speak and will set them upon everyone in three years' time. Bulma suggests having Shenron reveal the location of Gero's lab, and then they can all run off and gank him.
She gets voted down because Goku, Vegeta, and Tenshinhan are all super interested in fighting these Androids.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Goku tries to spin some guff about a moral reservation but he adds that in as an afterthought. His kneejerk is that he wants to fight. It's Krillin who ultimately succeeds in talking Bulma down, via some 4-D chess maneuvers against Vegeta.
Krillin's planning on using the Androids as a common cause to trick Vegeta into becoming one of the gang.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Which. Y'know. Goes off without a hitch, honestly. Krillin is a tactical genius and all-a y'all owe him respect. He manipulated Vegeta straight into that redemption arc.
In any case, this is where Trunks's warning leaves us: In three years' time, Dr. Gero will unleash 19 and 20 who will kill us all. If we knew where he was, we could do something about it, but the will to actually do that isn't there.
So.
Three years later, during the fight with 20, he uses Bulma as a distraction to make his escape. Upon rescuing her, Bulma's able to positively ID 20 as the doctor himself.
Tumblr media
More than that, she knows exactly where he lives because he's a famous celebrity whose personal information gets talked about in the scientific community.
Tumblr media
She just never brought it up before because no one ever said Dr. Gero was involved in any of this.
This is an even bigger HOOOOOOLY SHIT than the clear identification of the Androids' serial numbers. What Bulma knows flipped between these chapters.
So we make our way to Gero's lab to meet the arc's Actual Villains For Realsies, 17 and 18.
Tumblr media
As a sidenote, not to be outdone in jankiness by Goku dropping the Senzu into a pocket dimension earlier, Toei has Dr. Gero's broken-off right hand occasionally regenerate by magic in this scene.
Tumblr media
This arc is rough for everyone.
In any case, this brings us to the awakening of 16.
Tumblr media
At this point in time, the retcon has finished taking effect; 17 and 18 are now retroactively the Androids from Trunks's future, but 16 is something different. Another Android that Trunks has never heard of before.
Dr. Gero practically pisses himself with terror when the prospect of 16 being awakened comes up.
Tumblr media
In the same breath that Toriyama rewrites 17 and 18 to be the True Actual Villains For Realsies of the arc, he also introduces the enigmatic 16. All we know of him is that Gero believed he was a malfunctioning, uncontrollable failure whose awakening would threaten the whole planet.
The Twins question 16 about the true threat he represents.
Tumblr media
But all he has to offer in response is this... eerie smile, as if he knows something he isn't sharing.
Tumblr media
Answering "Are you going to kill us all" with a smug grin is fucking ominous. Shortly after, we learn that whatever 16's malfunction is, it scared Gero so much that he never made another of the same kind of thing that 16 is again.
Tumblr media
What went so horribly wrong that it spooked Gero into trying out human base models and? It's worth noting that while Gero did go back to the mechanical design for 19, he considered the subsequent failures of 17 and 18 following whatever happened with 16 to be sufficient reason to can the Infinite Energy design entirely.
Android 16 is the most formidable design Gero ever created to kill Goku with. And he refused to ever make another like him again.
Current Dragon Ball lore, per interviews with Toriyama, say that he didn't want 16 released because 16 has sentimental value to him. But that doesn't explain why he didn't make other Androids like 16, and these panels themselves are telling a very different story. They're hyping up the mystery of 16 to be the true ultimate threat of this arc - At least, once he finally gets a chance to meet his one true adversary.
Tumblr media
However, this doesn't last. Torishima didn't like the Twins as villains either so Cell was created instead. It was later revealed that 16 was very strong and also has a bomb in his chest that would wipe out a small portion of the countryside.
But the nature of this terrifying and enigmatic threat to the planet sure to unfold if 16 awakens, something so terrible that Gero was afraid of ever making an Android like 16 again, would be lost to the cutting room floor.

A Night In Tokyo With Mick Schumacher and A Mercedes 190E Evo II
Driving around Tokyo is daunting. With no centre or suburbs, its road network is huge, spiralling, occasionally latticed and sometimes subterranean. At times, even Mr Roboto in the satnav gives up and shrugs directions your way. Which has happened. Meaning I'm lost while leading Mick Schumacher (behind the wheel of a stunning Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II) through Japan's neon-lined labyrinth. It's a hot, humid evening and Mercedes F1's reserve driver (and son of iconic seven-time Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher) is cutting the perfect shape of a 90s boyband member. Where I'm perspiring like a burst pipe, he palms back his blonde curls and looks effortlessly cool in his loose-fitting, oversized Tommy Hilfiger contractual clobber. Sartorially, it couldn't be more of a perfect fit for the car he's driving. Born out of German touring cars, the Evo II is a deeply lustworthy, boxy and bewinged sports saloon. With a revvy, induction-tastic 232bhp four-cylinder engine mated to a dog leg close-ratio five-speed manual, rear-wheel drive and aero appendages that get petrolheads salivating, it's a proper tip one's hat 'if you know, you know' car. Mercedes only built 502 of them (as per DTM's homologation rules) out of some 1.9 million W201 models that it's based on, so they're properly rare beasts. The fact we've got a quadruplet of Evos following Mick makes the situation we're in a bit more mind-blowing. But that's the plan. We wanted to give Mick an evening to remember, to take him away from the repetition and rigmarole of modern media junkets. We don't want to know where he keeps his ketchup, or when the last time he thought of the Roman Empire was. We want to indulge his love for cars.
Tumblr media
"I went looking for an Evo II to buy but decided against it… for now," Mick says in his soft, geographically hard to place international accent. "It's a beautiful car and has huge sentimental value to me, the main reason being that my dad had one as a company car when he was a Mercedes junior. He spent a lot of time doing lots of laps on the Nordschleife with Heinz-Harald Frentzen. I remember within a month they had to change the brake pads and things with the engine. So it's an emotionally important car to me." Growing up in Gland, Switzerland, Mick struggles to pinpoint exactly when he got bitten by the road car bug. "Honestly, I don't really know where I got into them. Driving them around the property as a child was a big factor. The first time I had a steering wheel in my hand from a road car was maybe four or five years old, on my dad's lap. I got to drive very nice cars, very soon and very early. I guess it just grew naturally. Especially when I turned 18; then it really turned into an obsession." Raised on a healthy diet of racing, the Fast and Furious franchise and gaming, Mick picked up a penchant for JDM cars by proxy. "I just love how raw and simple they are," he says. "I enjoy playing around with them, changing stuff, tuning them and making them more fun to drive." Knowing this, we head out of Tokyo towards Chiba to meet Japan's most inconspicuous bad boy: Kazuhiko 'Smokey' Nagata. Tobacco and turbo enthusiast Smokey is one of Japan's legendary tuners. He and his company Top Secret have modified every generation of Nissan GT-R, including an R33 Skyline GT-R that managed 0–186mph in 17 seconds at Yatabe test track and 204mph in Tokyo's famous Aqualine tunnel. Like Smokey, Mick is also a GT-R fanboy, with some tucked away in a shed at home, including his R34 drift car.
Tumblr media
"I've really got into drifting. As an F1 driver, drifting, or oversteer, is the opposite of what you want to do, but if you control it and have the feel for it, it can really help you. So I took the step of saying 'I want to try it' after the 2019 Race of Champions skill race. I was quite good, finishing second against rally drivers and everything, so I thought, 'Okay, maybe I should try this a bit more,' so I got my own car and started enjoying sideways. I love the sensation of connecting turns and being in a difficult situation, because obviously the car is upset, to then be able to control it. I think that's what's so intriguing. It's a good feeling." Mick's curiosity and JDM love resonates as he wanders around Smokey's GT-R littered shop. Not being able to speak Japanese, Mick uses international hand signals for car nuts to explain various car parts, gets out his phone to show Smokey his cars before stumbling upon Smokey's VR32 GT-R (an R32 with all the mechanics and interior of the R35 transplanted) and trying to find a way to import it into Switzerland. But we've got no time for this, as we've got the legendary Bayshore Route to hit and a car meet to get to. For someone so young, 24-year-old Mick is at a rather quiescent point in his career. Having had a triumphant run in his youth coming second in karting in the World, European and German Junior Championships, then switching to Formula 4 in 2015 and finishing second overall in both the German and Italian F4 championships, before becoming European Formula 3 Champion in 2018 and FIA Formula 2 Champion in 2020, Mick made it to the big leagues and bagged himself a seat in F1 with Haas. It wasn't easy. In 2022 Mick lost his seat after a difficult second season that saw him struggle to match teammate Kevin Magnussen for form. He recorded a best finish of sixth in Austria, one of two points finishes during the season, but it was not enough to save his seat. For 2023, Mick dropped his Ferrari junior ties and linked up with Mercedes (the last team his father raced for in F1), picking up the role of reserve driver.
Tumblr media
"Being a reserve driver gives you tremendous insight, especially at Mercedes," Mick says. "I miss driving, I'm not going to lie, but the main thing I've learned since moving from Haas to Mercedes is how the team operates, the tools they have, how they use them and the communication. They're big learning points. It has opened my eyes in a lot of ways and has made it clear why Mercedes is as successful as it is. The worst part is sitting in the garage and seeing everybody drive out and do what you love to do." Part of Mick's remit is to join Mercedes trackside at all F1 race. That's how we're able to blat around Tokyo for a night before he heads to Suzuka to support the team. But time in Merc's state-of-the-art sim back in Brackley is also key. Mick was praised by Mercedes' technical director James Allison for a 2 am shift he did during the British GP weekend, turning the car's "woeful" one-lap pace on Friday into a competitive car and set-up for Lewis Hamilton and George Russell to compete with during quali and the race on Sunday. With every mile behind the Evo II's wheel, Mick's smile grows to match the width of its monstrous rear wing, especially when he realizes it shoots flame on the overrun after a 7,600 rpm toll booth roll out. We cross over to Yokohama and swirl down a concrete pillared plughole, arriving in an unsuspecting parking lot that doubles up as the epicentre of cool Japanese car culture in Japan: Daikoku PA. Mick, having never been to a car meet before, has his eyes widened. Even though it's a school night, the place is pumping. Mick walks around curiously, showing his girlfriend, Danish model Laila Hasanovic, Veilside-kitted Mazda RX-7s, how riveted wide arch Liberty Walk bodywork hangs from an R35 GT-R for the ultimate kerbside stance, and the extended provenance from the flood of awesome, rare Mercedes (including the original 190E Evo I, an AMG-clad W124 and a custom Cosworth 2.5 boasting Penta wheels and Brabus brakes) that are all parked honourably in their uniform herringbone bays. As Mick gets under the bonnets and kindly signs carbon airboxes for marginally hysterical owners, I wonder if he's handy with the spanners.
Tumblr media
"I wish I was," he says, "but I don't have the time. I'm starting to bring more of my cars over to my place so that I eventually will be able to work on them myself and change things that I want to change. Currently, I am very good at taking things apart… maybe less gifted at putting them back together." But since the meteoric rise of social media and documentaries like Netflix's Drive to Survive, racing drivers' personalities have been mainlined into public consciousness. Nowadays, it appears drivers' human interests need to be put on display like the plastic dishes outside Daikoku's service station restaurant windows. Yet here, tonight, Mick seems completely at home and relaxed. "It's risky because I feel like I'm a very private person. I like my privacy. Sometimes when you get people wanting to know more, they get a bit too snoopy. I feel it should be my choice how much I share, and what I share, not people trying to figure that out for me." In this job you get to sniff out the car nuts from the blaggers, and Mick's passion is palpable. It's refreshing to see, and a welcome break from the headlines and hearsay currently surrounding him given he's caught in a gloopy limbo where F1 politics, money and raw talent are all currently fighting each other to work out where he'll race next.
Tumblr media
As I type, Mick's currently linked with an LMDh drive with Alpine in next year's World Endurance Championship, a move Mercedes F1's big boss Toto Wolff is fine with, as Mick is "part of the family" and "will always have a home." Mick's tone becomes more forlorn when talking about the future, obviously having had a tough few years and aching to get back into an F1 car. I wonder if it takes its toll, and how he pushes through in times of uncertainty. "Having the right people around you," he says. "You need to try and be mentally in the right space and try and get the best out of the situation so that you can, whenever it's necessary, be in the position that you can jump in and be ready to go." After an evening with Mick, you can't help but wish him the best of luck. If all else fails, he could always lean into drifting and see where that takes him. Sideways Schuey. Has a good ring to it, doesn't it?

𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐌𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐂 𝟏 — 𝐁𝐄 𝐌𝐘 𝐆𝐔𝐄𝐒𝐓.
Song: Be My Guest (Azari ft Kaai Yuki & Flower)
Key: Lyrics in pink, romaji in green, descriptions in black
[ Before the music starts, the opening shot is of both wardens looking at the camera. Shiki, a young woman with strawberry-blonde hair and a warm smile on her face, takes a drag from her cigarette and blows the smoke at the camera. The screen darkens as it transitions, the music beginning. ]
You’re without an umbrella, No, no, kasa mo sasezu ni No, no,
[ The screen reveals Mary, a timid prisoner with long white hair and clothing reminiscent of a maid outfit. She's looking offscreen, uncertain about the situation. ]
And your Eyes are closed fusagaru Eyes
[ As Mary’s eyes shut, a pair of red eyes open in the background. ]
If you can’t go home, then you, too, can Be my guest kaerenai nara anata mo Be my guest
[ Shiro, the other warden, reaches out his hand towards Ryuko. ]
My, a well-done, lovely, plastered-on smile? yoku dekita haribote no kirei na egao?
[ The next prisoner, a shorter girl with red hair named Choko, appears just as Mary's image fades from the screen. On the instrumental whistle, her visible eye closes, and the outlined silhouette of a microphone appears behind her for a split second. ]
You can’t get comfortable in front of others, so you, too, can Be my guest hitomae ja kuzusenai anata mo Be my guest
[ Here, Shiki holds out her hand towards her. On the instrumental whistle, the screen goes dark once more. ]
It’s the agreed-upon time, but no one came to meet you? yakusoku no jikan demo mukae ga konai?
[ Here, two prisoners appear on screen at once: Ryuko, a taller woman with short navy hair and a displeased expression; and Kaede, a shorter girl with glasses and black hair tied into twin ponytails, appearing adorable next to her. Ryuko stands on the left side of the screen, while Kaede stands on the right. On the instrumental whistle, their eyes shut. The outlined silhouettes of a man and child appear behind Ryuko, while the mirrored silhouettes of what seems to be Kaede herself with shorter hair appear behind Kaede. ]
You can’t go off the rooftop, so you, too, can Be my guest okujou kara derarenai anata mo Be my guest
[ In the center of the screen, both Shiki and Shiro appear, outstretching their hands towards the two prisoners. On the instrumental whistle, the screen darkens as it transitions to the next scene. ]
Like a black cat, I Step’n step’n step kuroneko no you ni Step'n step'n step
[ Shiro leads his two prisoners, Choko and Kaede, down a path towards the right side of the screen. ]
Haphazardly, I Tap’n tap’n tap teatari shidai ni Tap'n tap'n tap
[ Shiki, meanwhile, leads the other two prisoners, Mary and Ryuko, down a path towards the left side of the screen. ]
I bring you along with a Snap’n snap’n snap anata o tsurete Snap'n snap'n snap
[ The two wardens appear in the center of the screen, with their appointed prisoners on either side of them. On each “snap,” one silhouette of a prisoner appears on each side, meaning that by the end of the line, all ten prisoners are on screen. ]
Dancing with a practiced gait odori nareta ashidori
[ All ten prisoners do a dance on screen on time to the music, while the wardens stand in the background. ]
Despite appearances, our firm is purely pacifistic kou miete heisha wa aku made heiwashugi
[ All of the prisoners have their designs revealed by this point. On the left side of the screen, to the left of Shiro, are the following five prisoners: Mary, Ryuko, Leo, Abigail, and Koji. On the right side of the screen, to the right of Shiki, are the other five: Choko, Kaede, Iori, Kazuhiko, and Mayumi.
During this line, the background changes, becoming what will soon come to be known as the main area of the MILGRAM prison instead of the forest it was before. ]
We’re quite clear in regard to sales quotes and support omitsumori ni sapooto made meikaku ni
[ Signs appear on screen, sort of like crossroads, indicating the three trials and undetermined outcomes. Each sign has the words “guilty” and “innocent” written. ]
But since we’ve just started out, it’s impossible to make allowances tada hajimeta nara tekagen wa muri
[ The prisoners then appear in their straightjackets instead of their normal attire. Their expressions revert to the ones in their official full body artworks. ]
So please, stay up late tonight, Stay up, please douka kon'ya wa osoku made Stay up, please
[ The screen suddenly gains a blue, night-ish filter over it. On the line “Stay up, please”, the screen goes dark in three sections on time with the line. ]
You aren’t friends with them, but you can’t stay away? tomodachi janai keredo hanarerarenai?
[ The background becomes the forest from before. Two prisoners appear on the screen at once: Leo and Iori. Leo seems to always be smiling at the camera, while in contrast to him, Iori seems to feel nervous around the camera and has a timid expression.
On the instrumental whistle, outlines of silhouettes appear behind them as their eyes shut: Leo's silhouettes depict three people, while Iori’s silhouette is that of a cross. ]
You give in so obediently, so you, too, can Be my guest orikou ni akirameru anata mo Be my guest
[ Shiro and Shiki’s hands reach out to the prisoners simultaneously. On the instrumental whistle, the screen changes. ]
There was enough for everyone, but they were one short? minna fun atta noni hitotsu tarinai?
[ Abigail and Kazuhiko are the next prisoners to appear. Abigail is a heavier-set woman with long, green hair; Kazuhiko's blue-almost-black hair falls in a curtain, covering his eyes. His expression is displeased, yet apathetic.
On the instrumental whistle, two new silhouettes appear: behind Abigail, the outlined silhouette of a dog appears; behind Kazuhiko, the outlined silhouette of a young boy appears. ]
You won’t be suspicious of anyone, so you, too, can Be my guest dare hitori utagaenai anata mo Be my guest
[ Shiro and Shiki’s hands reach out towards the prisoners. On the instrumental whistle, the screen transitions once more. ]
On the way home, a detour - the aroma of butter kaerimichi mawarimichi bataa no kaori
[ The final two prisoners, Koji and Mayumi, appear on either side of the screen. On the instrumental whistle, silhouettes appear: behind Koji, the outlined silhouette of a bridge appears; behind Mayumi, the outlined silhouette of a gun appears. ]
And a gentle, laughing voice says, “Someday, you’ll Be my guest” atatakai waraigoe itsuka wa Be my guest
[ Instead of the wardens reaching out their hands, the outline of a pair of white smiles appears in the background. At the very last second, the background changes from the forest to MILGRAM once more before the song ends, the visuals disappearing in a puff of pink cigarette smoke. ]

This week let's take a look at Cutie Honey episode 6: "The Black Scissors Shred Dreams."
Screenwriter: Masaki Tsuji
Art Director: Eiji Ito
Animation Director: Kazuhiko Udagawa
Director: Tomoharu Katsumata
Tumblr media
The shot where Honey is looking up at the sky thinking about her father was originally animated differently. The original version zoomed out further and had Honey's expression changing. For whatever reason, this was changed on the home video releases.
Tumblr media
Scissors Land is most likely a parody of the renowned Disneyland. It could also be a reference to the more Japanese familiar Nara Dreamland.
One of the first establishing shots of Scissors Land’s popular attraction, the “Coffin House'' shows a hallway full of ghoulish hands reaching out from the walls. This is a nod to Roman Palanski’s 1965 horror film, Repulsion, namely the iconic scene in which the lead character Carol (played by Catherine Deneuve) walks down a hallway while male hands reach out for her from inside the walls.
Later in the episode we see a collection of wax mannequins modeled after historical figures, celebrities and popular fictional characters. Among them are The Beatles, Marylin Monroe, Napoleon Bonaparte, Tarzan, Medusa and others.
Tumblr media
Dirty Marry’s hilarious snot-nosed design is based on early artwork for Zuuko Kazami, who would’ve been Seiji’s little sister (in place of Junpei). Zuuko's design had her wearing a diaper, a bib, and Japanese styled sandals called geta. The name “Dirty Marry” probably comes from the 1971 Clint Eastwood film, Dirty Harry. Dirty Marry was voiced by Yoneko Matsukane, who would go on to play Jeanne de la Motte in The Rose of Versailles.
Mastodon is a wet nurse, which is a woman who breast feeds and cares for another person’s child. This is especially funny when you consider “mastodon” means “breast-tooth” or “nipple-tooth.” Her name also refers to her large body size. Mastodon was voiced by Kimie Nakajima, who did minor voice work in Tomorrow’s Joe, The Gutsy Frog, and other series from the 60’s to 80’s.
The Principality of Toreador is a fictional place. “Toreador” is the word for a bullfighter.
Tumblr media
The style of Honey’s large x-ray vision glasses are known as “dragonfly glasses.” Despite being a handy gadget, Honey only uses them once more in episode 14, where they have red frames instead of black.
Tumblr media
Danbei introduces himself by singing a well-known Japanese folk song called Kuroda Bushi or “The Song of Kuroda.” The song originated in Fukuoka City during the 1590’s and is often sung during drinking parties known as nomikai or at karaoke.
Tumblr media
There seems to be a deleted scene from this episode. The back of the second laser disc features a screenshot of Honey (disguised as Marie Antoinette) that does not appear in the actual episode.

Finally got over the sheer indecision of seeing so many wips (lots of interesting one you got there), so!
RE:CREATE and/or Hero Mask?
*CACKLES MANIACALLY* THANK YOU LOVELY
Re:CREATE (wip title honestly this thing is brain soup and idk what to title it anymore, original title when the story ends) is actually a fic for the anime the aforementioned character I might shove in the Twist fic is from, Re:CREATORS. In which I decided to throw Kanoya Rui back into the 'real world' and gave him a boyfriend. :3 (There is also sex but uh we're not gonna talk about that here. ^^;)
And I just realized that this is all semi coherent nonsense without a single fully fleshed out scene so lemme just find something that isn't too illegible
Re:CREATE
Kanoya out on the town one day, still getting used to this new life of his and trying to find a place.
“Excuse me.”
Kanoya looks up at a young woman, probably around his or Meteora’s age, [insert description]. Everyone here looks so plain compared to the bright colors Kanoya’s used to from his home world.
“This might sound a bit strange but can I get a picture of you?” Just over the woman’s shoulder, he catches sight of a somewhat frantic looking young man, ‘No, wait, what are you-’ “You look exactly like my best friend’s favorite anime character.”
“Aya!” the boy comes running up and grabs his friend’s shoulder, frantically spewing words “I’m so sorry about her, it’s really nothing- you can’t just go asking strangers for their picture-”
Kanoya’s confusion turns to a grin and a laugh. “Sure! I don’t mind!”
“Eh?”
“Great!” Aya claps her hands together “And since you’re here, you two should take it together!”
“EH?” The other boy stumbles and flails as Aya eagerly shoves him into Kanoya’s space.
The boy awkwardly stands next to a grinning Kanoya as Aya gets her phone out - “Closer!”
“So, your favorite character - is it Kanoya Rui?”
The boy startles “Eh? Ye-yeah. How did you know?”
Kanoya just beams and casually throws his arm around the boy’s shoulder as Aya calls for them to stop talking and smile at the camera. The boy squawks, embarrassed as fuck.
“Did you get a good one?”
“The best!” Aya laughing at Kazuhiko’s face in the photo. Kazuhiko.exe has stopped functioning. “Thank you!”
Kazuhiko probably comes back online to start wailing at Aya again, or Aya just prompts him to start moving.
“Oh, by the way, do you know how to get to place?”
“Yeah, it’s just over __.”
“Cool. Thanks. Later!”
Silence
“He even sounds exactly like him!” stunned. Aya laughs. “I cannot believe you just did that.”
“Well you weren’t going to.”
“Of course I’m not going to ask a complete stranger for a photo! We’re not even at a con! … You better send me that.”
“Ohhh? What if I don’t?”
“Aya!”
“You didn’t even want me to take the picture and now you want to keep it!”
“Of course I do! He looked like freaking Kanoya come to life!”
“Haha, you should have gotten his number. Or at least his name.”
“For what? It’s not like I’m ever going to see him again.”
~~~
Hero Mask is actually my giant GX rewrite ft OC(s) that I keep posting snidbits of for prompt events and never actually writing. ^^; ONE DAY! I AM DETERMINED. Lemme see if I can pull up something that hasn't been posted before.
UNDER CUT BECAUSE THIS IS GETTING LONG.
Hero Mask
Jaden moves in her peripheral and Christina looks up to see him wandering down a hall as if drawn by something. An armored spirit he can't see disappears around a corner ahead of him.
"Uh, Jaden? Where are you going?" Syrus peers nervously after him.
"There's something going on this way! I can tell!"
Ohhh Jaden's dueling senses are kicking in. Still scary how accurately he can pinpoint that. Or maybe a part of him can still sense duel spirits? No, stop that, that kind of wishful thinking is setting herself up for disappointment.
"What kind of something?" Syrus whines as he scampers after. Pocketing her PDA, Christina follows. She knows better than to get between Jaden and his current hyperfixation.
"A duel! Can't you just smell it, Syrus?" Jaden breathes in deeply and marches forward. The duel spirit hovers ahead of them, seemingly oblivious to the humans following it.
Syrus pauses to sniff the air curiously. "Um...no?"
Jaden leads them into a large open room lined with stadium style seats and a raised dueling platform that looks like something straight out of the Kaiba Dome. Christina can't help but feel impressed, if a tad cynical. You can tell Seto Kaiba went all out on the budget for this school.
"Get a look at this!" Jaden's eyes practically sparkle.
Their presence draws the attention of a couple of boys in blue standing on the dueling platform, and the way they sneer down at the four of them has Christina's hackles rising. "What are you doing here? Scram." The one with pointy hair has the gall to make a shooing motion at them with his hand.
"And why should I?" Jaden protests.
The other blue perks at the sight of Jaden. "Hey wait, that's the guy who beat Dr. Crowler." He leans back to call over his shoulder, "Chazz, the kid who beat Dr. Crowler is here!"
A third blue appears above them with spiky emo hair that could almost put Yugi's to shame. He looks down his nose at Jaden as if appraising the other boy and Christina does not like his expression one bit. "Huh. Doesn't look like much. Told you it must have been a fluke. Anyway, scram before we call security on you trespassing." He waves a dismissive hand as he turns away.
"Trespassing?" Jaden sputters as Syrus very meekly tries to pull him back to the door. "I'm a student like you. I have every right to be here."
"Nuh-uh." Spiky hair number one points above their heads and Christina twists to see a giant Obelisk crest hanging over the entrance. "This is the Obelisk Blue arena."
"Then he gets a free pass," Christina says coldly, arms crossed. "Cuz I'm an Obelisk Blue and I say he can be here."
The guy balks at her. "You're a gir-"
"Ya wanna go, porcupine head?" Christina bares her teeth, stamping a foot on the first step up the area. Jaden casually steps back as the other boy jerks.
Chazz only smirks. "Feisty, I like that."
"Gag me," Christina scoffs.
“Maybe later if you’re offering.” EXCUSE ME, did this little turd just- “But how about a duel first?”
"Hell yeah! Now you're talking my language!" Jaden eagerly steps up.
"Not you!" Chazz snaps. "Why would I waste my time on a worthless slacker like you?"
Oh, Christina is going to enjoy mopping the floor with this sleaze.
"Give it a rest Chazz," a new voice cuts in with an ample amount of tired annoyance, and Christina jerks at not having realized her presence sooner. Hey, wait, that's her roommate. "Just ignore him," Alexis says, walking into their midst and bares a few teeth as she stares Chazz and his cronies down. "Chazz is a bully."
Chazz straightens his back, glaring his nose down at the girl, but his demeanor shifts as if he actually cares what Alexis thinks of him. Too flipping bad. Maybe he should have thought about that before picking fights with 'slackers'. "Alexis. What brings you here?"
"I'm here to remind you that the Obelisk welcome dinner starts soon." Oh, Christina knows that tone. Alexis sounds like an exasperated babysitter. Probably should just let this guy crash and burn though. Doesn't seem worth it.
Chazz scoffs and turns away with his cronies. Jaden pouts at the loss of an opponent.
"The Slifer welcome dinner should be starting soon too." Alexis addresses the Slifer boys with a smile.
"Oh, so we eat at the dorms then," Jaden musses aloud. "Thanks, we'll catch you later!" With a wave, he books it out of the arena, Syrus hot on his heels; then abruptly stops and calls over his shoulder as he jogs in place, "Christina! Come by the dorm tomorrow! I want ya to meet Chumley!" He barely waits for her response before he's jogging down the hall.
Spazz.
Clover
1 volume (Dark Horse), 1 volume (collector’s edition, Kodansha), 4 volumes (Tokyopop)
Licensed by Tokyopop, then Dark Horse, now Kodansha USA
The sci-fi classic from the creators of xxxHOLiC and Cardcaptor Sakura returns, in a remastered, hardcover edition, featuring the entire CLOVER series. One of CLAMP's most ambitious works -- part AKIRA, part Metropolis -- CLOVER features nearly 500 pages of manga. Su was born into a bleak future, where the military keeps tight control over the few children born with magical abilities -- known as "Clovers." The Clovers are forcibly tattooed with a symbol that indicates their potential power, and Su is the only four-leaf Clover in the world. Kept locked away in isolation her whole life, Su longs to find happiness in the outside world. An agent named Kazuhiko appears to help grant Su's wish, but he soon realizes that there is more to the mysterious girl than meets the eye... CLAMP's most daring science-fiction work, CLOVER's art-deco cyberpunk aesthetic is just as fresh and exciting today as it was twenty years ago. Featuring the entire story in a newly-revised translation; remastered art and lettering; a striking cover; and over 20 pages of color art, this is a great collectible for CLAMP fans, and the perfect way to get to know CLOVER for the first time.
#365DaysOfVGM Day 168:
Theme of Solid Snake/THEME OF SOLID SNAKE [Metal Gear >> Solid Snake Music Compilation of Hideo Kojima/Red Disc] (Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake [MSX], especially the Metal Gear Solid Integral version [1990/1999/1998])
The one-man army super soldier with an engaging story multiple decades in the making, deserved a character theme for the ages, and they sure as hell delivered on that area, well in advance!
The buildup, suspense, and epic payoff within each section to depict a sort of “secret decisive force” are all here, with the Red Disc version being the most different of the 3 in how it sounds more “mechanical” aside from some occasional “claps” and Piano bits. If you want MGS1’s epic psuedo-Choirs alongside a more Synth-focused MIDI, that’s what Integral is for. The original ends up sounding more “chiptune”-y because of its MSX2 origins, which makes it have its own kind of appeal too! All versions have a Bass worth mentioning, since while it simply follows the other instruments early on, it takes on its own melody for the later parts.
With that Red Disc’s album title in mind, to think that the crediting of Hideo Kojima over everyone else’s hard work started this early is kinda depressing, so let me name the composers to pay respect to them: Tsuyoshi Sekito, Masahiro Ikariko, Mutsuhiko Izumi, Yuko Kurahashi, Tomoya Tomita, Kazuhiko Uehara, and Yuji Takenouchi all made the Metal Gear 2 original happen, the fact that the Metal Gear dev teams get lots of composers cannot be understated! Yoshiyuki Ito & Hikaru Nanase made the Red Disc arrangement the next year, in a disc paying tribute to the Metal Gear 2 soundtrack as a whole with its remixes.
Kazuki Muraoka, Hiroyuki Togo, Takanari Ishiyama, Lee Jeon Myung, and Maki Kirioka are all responsible for Metal Gear Solid 1’s soundtrack, so some of them likely worked on Integral’s Solid Snake theme arrangement the following year! Some sites list “Rika Muranaka” and someone by the alias “TAPPY” as part of Integral’s music team too, but I’ve yet to confirm this. What I can confirm, is my appreciation for the teamwork involved in making each Metal Gear entry come true; it takes more than just talent and brand power to make a franchise this memorable!
(Length [Original & Integral]: 2.5+ minutes, [Red Disc]: Nearly 3 minutes)
7, 16, 22
7: Was there ever a time when one of your S/I’s flaws or issues impacted their relationship with your F/O? What happened?
-In the early days of Rozu and Gaara's relationship, Rozu had a tough time getting Gaara to be physical. He was so nervous that he would do something to hurt her, and the first time they were intimate he was afraid of breaking her. It took some coaxing and assurance from Rozu to get Gaara to feel more comfortable being PDA and being a little rougher with her in the bedroom. She mostly takes the lead with that.
16: Has your S/I ever been involved in a situation that got more complex or dangerous than they initially imagined? How did they get out of it, and did your F/O help them?
-The other way around actually! Rozu and Gaara were caught in a tough fight with a squad of rogue Sound ninja who were using chakra draining techniques, which weakened the two of them heavily during the ensuing fight. Gaara tried to convince Rozu to run, to which she declined, citing that it would be wrong to leave him there alone. With the last of his chakra reserved, Gaara managed to distract the enemy enough for Rozu to take advantage of an oncoming thunderstorm and use her ultimate jutsu Raijin's Fury. Gaara used his sand shower, and Rozu used her lightning to turn the showering sand into glass to incapacitate the enemy. Gaara wound up collapsing of chakra exhaustion, and Rozu carried him back to the village in her arms shortly before passing out herself.
22: Has your S/I ever done something that they felt ashamed of afterward? Were they afraid of your F/O finding out, and if so, what would happen if they did find out?
-Rozu is ashamed of running away from Suna in her early life. She wishes she could have had the strength to get through her living situation. She is also insecure about her own strength, despite her accomplishments in life. She is not afraid to tell Gaara about her past and about her insecurities with her strengths.
She IS ashamed of her romp with Kazuhiko before her and Gaara got together. Kazuhiko was a prince charming for sure, but he was also a manipulative liar and a cheater--one who managed to pull the wool over Rozu's eyes--which she is totally embarrassed about. She did not tell Gaara about him, and he does find out about Kazuhiko later on when she receives a mysterious letter at the Kazekage offices from him many years after they'd cut contact. This prompts Gaara to ask Rozu about Kazuhiko, and Rozu spills the beans.
Thank you for the ask!
How would the DVHS boys react to their S/O just casually being on fire? Like, they don’t feel any pain or heat and when someone points it out, they’re just like “Huh? Oh.” like it’s no big deal.
I love the dvhs boys <3
Fumito Abe:
He was very confused.
Was that something that happened regularly?
At the very least, S/O found it normal.
Nozomu Aoyama:
That sure didn’t make sense.
There was no way it was real fire.
That just wasn’t possible.
Hidekazu Fujimoto:
That was definitely not normal.
Why was S/O talking like it was normal?
He had to try putting out the fire!
Kazuhiko Ikeda:
He was shocked at first.
But since S/O was calm, so was he.
No need to overthink it.
Yasu Kadoshima:
So S/O didn’t really have an explanation?
Well, that wasn’t exactly a bad thing…
He was just glad they weren’t in plain?
Hayao Maeda:
He was panicking much more than S/O.
But they were perfectly calm?
Was it some sort of prank on him?
Takeshi Matsumoto:
Why was S/O on fire?
Shouldn’t he help them put it out?
He was trying a bit too frantically to find something to help.
Ikuo Nakamura:
He? What?
Were they not hurt by it?
He just didn’t understand.
