I got hit in the trauma with a line earlier so here's somewhat of a prompt
A character getting asked "do you ever stop talking?" While taking about something there interested in and just completely shutting down and going quite. And someone noticing and giving them the comfort they need

one thing about the tma & tmp writers is I know they understand having a job where the social vibes are incredibly strange. I appreciate their commitment to depicting work environments that are so unnecessarily stressful where everyone is trying to backstab everyone and form alliances but meanwhile it's just filing items on a computer. The petty drama feels very true to life

I don’t see many people mentioning that Tim and Martin seemed genuinely close, not in a made up way or just work place friends. I could be entirely wrong, but Tim was the first one Martin told about faking his CV, whenever everything was happening where Jon was all distant — They were like silent emotional support for each other too

Update on my Magnus Archives journey. I’m now on episode 113 and let me tell you, it’s getting crazy. Tbh I still don’t know what Elias’s intentions are. Like, I know what he did to Melanie was pretty messed up, but also I don’t know if he did it because he had to?
Jon, at least, seems to rely on doing his job to keep himself healthy. I don’t know if this applies to the others. There’s also the fact that if Elias dies… spoilers. Regardless, my thing now is wondering if he’s trying to protect them in some weird convoluted way.
Current characters from favorite to least:
Jon
Basira
Elias
Martin
Melanie
Tim
Daisy

just by giving us office shenanigans, the magnus protocol is simulating the terrifying creeping dread of early magnus to me.
theyre making alice so silly and sam so sweet “cinnamon roll” and gwen so adorably bratty because they Know we know its gonna hurt.
they’re playing on our knowledge of this franchise to curate such a secondhand sense of “Oh Fuck” just waiting for it all go to shit. it’s terror they dont have to explicitly allude to because they Know we know. so good.
i just know they made sam make cat noises in his sleep to up his “awww sweet fandom baby. sweet cinnamon roll” factor Just because we know they’re going to destroy him
they saw the way we write precanon and gave it to us on a knowingly poisoned silver platter. sam is fanon martin, alice is fanon tim, gwen is fanon jon, celia is fanon sasha. but all their cute office shenanigans are soured now by Oh God Oh Fuck. its *genius*. even though we dont know the characters too well they are familiar. they are familiar and we love them already because they are familiar. their pain is familiar too and we know its coming.
. and colin is there to be our Reminder that this isnt a cute sitcom anime. colin is living in the horror genre . he is our Reminder so we don’t get too comfortable.
archives was so good at slow burn upping the stakes. protocol is Not Doing that for obvious reasons but the fear it illicits is the same creeping dread feeling.

Thinking about Martin Blackwood. Thinking about how he took care of his mom even though she hated him. Thinking about how he did this for Jon too because once his mom moved to the care home he had some distance between her and now he met Jon, who he had a similar relationship with at first, and assumed the same role of a caretaker/one-sided companion. Thinking about how he said that he only went with Anabelle Cane in MAG198 because he was sure she was going to hurt Jon but not himself because he “wasn’t important enough to kill.” Thinking about how when he was in his own domain he constantly made excuses for his mother’s hostility. Thinking about how he shamed himself for negative feelings towards his mom and tried to keep the guilt over her death by saying he was the one that stressed her out. Thinking about how he constantly deflected the fact that she didn’t treat him right and only focused on what he didn’t do right. Thinking about how Martin Blackwood views himself as a disposable device of assistance/comfort to everyone else and berates himself when he fails to live up to that role he’s been put in time and time again. Thinking about how, when Tim said “This isn’t about you” Martin said “it never is” because his importance is always chalked up to the importance of other people, and his job is to help them in one way or another, however he can. It is never about him because he is not made to he important.

I read through all of Elias/Jonah's dialogue (as you do) plus some relistening and mentions of him, so here's a big list of some fun things and behaviors I noted!
I thought he made a lot of eye puns/jokes, but he only does it once in mag161, however he does enjoy making jokes. "Creativity never was their forte." from mag80, "You want my account? My sworn testimony? My statement?" from 82, "If you die, I’m afraid you probably won’t be able to claim your expenses." in 116 and "I only have two eyes, after all." in 120. no one ever laughs at his jokes only he finds them amusing
His last words telling Jon a sarcastic or mocking "good luck" are mirrored earlier as he also tells Basira good luck the last time he sees her, and Martin, as he's getting arrested
He loves gloating. "I forget how new you all are to this." from mag92, "Coffee is not as good for disguising tastes as you might think." in 98, "She’s hoping that even if I see it coming she’ll still be able to overpower me. She’s wrong, of course," in 102, "A masterpiece, isn’t it?" abt his panopticon in 158 and of course his whole monologue in 160
He does his budgeting on tuesdays and his scheduling on wednesdays
He also likes getting lost in work
in mag40 he makes up proper incompetency (said he didnt know how the fire system works, while he later admits he was actively waiting) just that once, but more so he acts like he doesnt get the full picture (doesnt know whats in the tunnels, whats strange about the institute) or acts too late and apologises (not stepping into jon's stalking behaviour). Which makes me think he is quite fine letting people think less of him but unless he has something to hide hes not actively looking to give the impression
in mag92 elias slides the papers for basira across his desk, but you don't hear him take them out before, meaning he prepared and got ready for this before he called the police
in general he's a very preparing man, Lukas steps in when Elias is arrested so has has control over who'd run it. in mag118 he says he prepared something to hurt martin (my speculation is that he likely has some trauma that could hurt you prepared for any person that could cross him, just in case he needs it). When he gets arrested he has something prepared so he doesnt get killed and ofc s1-4 is preparing Jon for his grand ritual
Elias admits the idea for his ritual kinda fell into place after Getrude didnt do anything about the people's church in march 2015. He shot Getrude and appointed Jon shortly after so "when you came to me already marked by the Web, I knew it had to be you." is pure dramatics as Jon was hired 4 years prior
also he got his ritual in 2018 so he managed to acomplish his life's goal in only 3 years, love his grindset 🔥
We never get a number for how many people Elias has killed in his ritual, the real life millbank has held over 1000 people at once, but id imagine his one panopticon held less than a whole complex
its really interesting to me in mag92 that hes SO sure they all know he's talking to them of his own free will. is he just that dead set on being in control or making sure they take no credit for his confession
there is a clock in Elias' office (but it's only heard in mag98)
He has killed people but Elias is very much not a blood thirsty person. Getrude and Peter are both surprised when he results to that. He's very much just ruthless and does not care, if to get his way he has to kill someone. It doesnt seem like he's ever happy to do so, maybe this is a quirk of being eye aligned and getting rid of any type of knowledge is painful (he does for example never want Tim to die at the Unknowing), or he just finds covering those murders up a hassle
for the Unknowing Elias books them all hotel rooms, how thoughtful
something cute to me that Jon was too good at the Eye that Elias couldnt meet him face to face post coma
In mag158 he implies that even Institute employees not in the archives are tied to it, at least enough that they could suffer or die if it burned down
between finding other people just as tools to watch and discard and saying empathy holds you back he was definitely a very very lonely man
He is a very breathy person. He sounds breathy when he talks. He takes deep breaths to ready himself and before he uses his powers. And he often breathes through his nose before speaking or during pauses
He has said Jon's name 62 times, only twice calling him "Jonathan" and called him archivist 25 times (24 in the mag120 statement, 1 in mag138 and 1 in mag161)(he also kinda calls him The Archive in 160)
other fun amount of words: know (65 times), see (42), martin (35), detective (20), eyes (20) and eye (9), afraid (9) and "bullshit" (1)
its still insane to me they added all of those sound effects of Elias' cuffs in prison, thats something fun to appreciate. It also means its canon he gestures quite a bit!

Finished TMA, I know I rarely post but here's a WIP </3
Also here's my ratings and some thoughts I had...
💥SPOILERS💥
S1 8/10
Some of the best statements, slow start and wish we had more time with Sasha and Tim bc of how much we get later on, amazing finale episodes and the second half really picks up by the end I was captivated.
S2 9/10
Amazing starting to learn more lore, loved paranoid Jon and all the Martin stuff we get, the tunnel stuff was actually terrifying and this season really had a great motif with the supplementals idk wether to call this season one of the scariest or funniest. Also Daisy Basira and Melanie slowly becoming more relevant is amazing I love them so much! Also the pay off with Not!Sasha attacking Jon and the Elias reveal is amazing!
S3 10/10
Probably my favorite because of how many gems you get, Episode 100 being hilarious, Michael's backstory, learning Martin and Tim's reasons for getting the job, Tim's connection to the Stranger who has been built up as one of my favorite villians and being personified through Nikola AAHAHH I love this season sm. MY GIRL MELANIE getting so much more time, OMG and the trips Jon goes on to discover more about his connection to the Eye and all the different avatars! Ugh I could gush about this season for hours. The perfect mix of spooky and lore and funny with a tragic ending.
S4 9/10
Still amazing but is docked a point because of how much less Martin and Melanie time you get, also I've never been a fan of the coma trope and was getting skeptical at the beginning but it pays off alot, I love how much Daisy and Basira get here and how much Jon really changes, loosing Tim and essentially loosing Martin is really interesting for his charcter growth and this is the season you can really feel it and SEE it and it also sets up his hero complex he gets for next season, loosing Sasha and Tim really has an important effect on his character. Also they make it so believable how Jon starts to realize he has feelings for Martin and how much he misses him and all the moments you get of him mourning the friendship they had gotten in s3. It's a lot to explore and as much as I was skeptical at first the pay off with Jon changing sm and THE FINALE!! is really worth it. This season also has my personal favorite Finale of all the seasons.
S5 9.5/10
I won't write too much about s5 because I'm still digesting it bc it's alot, but I loved it! The way Jon and Martin's interactions are so realistic and fun to hear, and the impending doom, that you realize half way though, that one or both of them may die is crushing but great. This season also has more scary statments that didnt affect me as much in s4 more like s2 and 3 again. Also love all the stuff the girlies get, and along with s3 hurting my soul so much this season managed to bring me to tears twice, with Daisy, Jon and Martin RIP </3
Overall I love this series so much and I loved listening to it I might listen to protocol now but I need a small break ugh...
