“you okay?” matt asked as he saw charlotte slump into her chair.

“yeah just my brothers being ridiculous.” she sighed putting her phone into her back pocket.

matt took the seat next to her and handed her a vodka infused drink, she took it immediately and downed almost half of it.

“woah slow down there cowgirl, we have work tomorrow.” he took the glass from her hands and placed it on the bench in front of them.

“it’s just my brothers are so up in my business it’s so fucking annoying.” charlie groaned rubbing her face with her hands.

“sorry that’s my fault, it was my idea to go matching..” matt shrugged shyly.

she let out a chuckle and grabbed his hand and placed in her lap, lacing their fingers together. “trust me im so happy we went matching, we look so cute!”

that bought a slight blush to matt’s cheeks and it honestly made the butterflies in his stomach stir.

from the moment charlie started working at the rangers, matt had a crush on her. but she always knew that she was off limits considering her brothers played for the enemy team.

charlie was the most flirtatious person ever, so that didn’t really help matt’s problem. but he couldn’t tell if she was really flirting with him or that’s just how she was.

their hands still intertwined she pulled him into the dance floor where quick and his wife danced in their matching costumes.

matt hesitantly put his hands up above her waist but she grabbed his hands dragging them down to he waist. a blush broke out on charlies face, she was so glad it was dark on the dance floor so he couldn’t see her.

charlie would never admit she did have a crush on matt, because it would never work. she couldn’t date someone who played on the team she worked for.

work was for strictly work, not messing around with a 6’9 giant who was gorgeous.

charlie leaned into his figure her hands now wrapped his waist too.

many people were definitely staring, but they couldn’t care.

by the end of the night charlie was a little bit more then tipsy but not drunk. it was 1am and matt was talking with jacob, all char wanted right now was for matt to take her home, in a non sexual way.

she sat in a seat scrolling through her phone and pulled up her moms contact.

he laughed and got out the car to help her upstairs. once they made it into her apartment he poured her a glass of water and grabbed her some pain killers while she got changed.

matt walked into her room to see charlie in a oversized devils shirt and she definitely just had underwear on underneath.

he placed the two things on the side table and tucked her into bed. “night charlie.”

“matt…” she whispered, with her eyes closed.

“yes?”

“can you stay please?” she pouted now opening her eyes.

a smile broke out on his face. “i don’t know if i can if your wearing that top…” he laughed.

“i’ll take it off!” she almost screamed and begin to pull up her top but he pulled it down before it could go any further.

“im just joking char of course i’ll stay.” he laughed. he looked down at his clothing, “is it okay if i sleep in my boxers?” he asked cautiously.

“im in a g string matt, yes.” she laughed.

he pulled off his clothes and jumped into bed next to her, she immediately pulled him close to her and laid her head upon his chest.

you rub your eyes with your fingers and groan right as you throw your purse on your bed. you hear a soft grunt that makes you flinch and turn on the light. “clark?!” you can’t hold back the joy you feel of seeing him, you go and throw yourself at him to hug him, tackling him down in the bed. clark holds you tightly, closing his eyes in hopes the moment will last an eternity.

clark pulls away from the hug and grabs your chin between his thumb and index finger, then plants a soft kiss on your lips. when he pulls away, you get a close look at his face, and his appearance makes you shoot up from your bed. “clark… have you seen your face?” your hand hides your open mouth as you let out a soft gasp.

you reach to touch his red and scarred cheek, but he grabs onto your wrists. “yes, it’s okay, it’ll heal—just need some sun.”

“um, no. what you need is some scarring cream and for me to clean up the wounds, or else they can get infected.” even though you work a full-time job as a nurse, your labors never end, whether you’re inside the hospital or out.

you grab the first aid kit in your bathroom and bring it to the bed. “I’m guessing this wasn’t clark, but Superman?” you ask, and clark nods. you take some sterile saltwater in your cotton pad and lightly dab it across clark’s open wound.

“you know it.” the corner of your lip curves and you continue to clean his wound.

“that looks pretty bad, clark. i need to stitch this up.” clark’s eyes analyze your every move, whenever you grab a new utensil, the way your eyebrows scrunch while you’re trying to concentrate, how you hold your breath when you stitch him up. “it’s good that you don’t feel pain, I hate stitches.”

“you’ve gotten stitches before?” clark asks you and you hum.

“yes, when i was younger i split open my leg with a zinc panel and had to get stitches, it hurt so bad, but somehow, it hurt worse the second time, when i tore them.” clark chuckles and shakes his head.

“they didn’t put numbing cream or anesthesia?”

“hm… no, because it was my dad who was stitching me up, and he thought i could take it because i was his ‘warrior’” you laugh at the memory, missing the moments like that that you shared with your family.

“okay, i’m done with this one.” you notice the cut on his lip and clean it up. after you’re done, you look at him for more potential cuts or bruises, but none are visible. “anything else?” you give him a soft smile and he shakes his head, but you can see he’s lying. “clark. c’mon, i can help you.”

“i promise i have nothing else.” he stares deeply into your eyes, but in his tone, there is something off. you send him a specific look and he sighs. he lifts his shirt and you gasp at the sight, both of your hands quickly trying to muffle your loud gasp. you stand from the bed and look at clark’s completely bruised abdomen.

“clark…”

“yeah, i don’t think band-aids or creams are going to do much.” he laughs. you shake your head, and you admire how he laughs, but you can’t, the sight makes you want to cry. you can’t imagine how much pain he is, and you know he can feel it.

“clark, what is this?! what did you do?!” your fingers brush his bruised, purple skin and you hear him wince, you look at him in disbelief, you barely even touched him. “you’re in pain, aren’t you?”

“don’t worry, it’s just a few broken ribs, maybe a punctured lung, it’ll heal in time.” your eyebrows cock, and clark avoids eye contact, but when he notices your glossy eyes, he stares at them.

“this isn’t funny, clark.” you take in a deep breath.

clark runs his hand through his hair and exhales. “yeah, okay… look, i didn’t come here so you could bind up my wounds. i came here to talk to you.” his tone changes drastically, and it makes you worry.

“what is it, clark?” his breath hitches when your now bloodshot eyes look at his. he begins to lose his breathing pattern, and you raise an eyebrow. “clark, what?” you lick your lips, looking up in hopes a tear isn’t rolling down your cheek, which for that, it was too late.

“i love being superman, i-i want to keep being him, and i want to keep saving people. and i want to save the most important person in my life right now.” he begins. you swallow the lump in your throat.

“clark, if this is one of your ‘I don’t know why you like me, you should hate me because I’m not human’ rants, i don’t want to hear it. you know i love you, i don’t care what you are.” you say, walking closer to him, but he steps away. you catch this and you feel your heart drop.

“i…” he trails off. “i can’t let you love me.”

that single sentence made you feel dizzy. you feel as if all the oxygen in the world had been taken away from you, and you can’t help but stand there, with nothing to say.

you let out a painful breath and look down. “what?” clark feels tears pooling in his eyes as he watches your reaction.

“I’m sorry.” you shake your head and look down, your tears hit the ground. your lip quivers as you let out a soft sob. “you don’t understand the dangers that are about to come. in order for me to save you—to keep you safe, i can’t let you love me.”

“let me be by your side, cla-“

“you’re not understanding.” clark cuts you off and shakes his head, and you step forward.

“yes, i am, all i need is to just be by your side, you’ll-“

“no, y/n. you’re not understanding!” his tone raises and it makes your eyes widen, taken aback by the sudden snap.

“then make me understand!” you snap back at him.

“i can’t lose you!” his hands wrap around your arms, softly shaking your body, hopefully, he shook some sense into you. you feel for a moment your feet leave the ground.

his eyes are on yours, what were once filled with life, are now filled with pain and anger. and his, his ocean eyes that were dreamy and soft are now tired and desperate.

he places you down on the ground softly, and you can’t help but let more tears stream down your face. he doesn’t look at you when you’re in his grasp—he doesn’t know how badly you want to kiss and hug him.

his touch leaves your body, possibly for the last time, and you get this sick feeling in your stomach, and what makes it worse is that his receding footsteps don’t pause, the sound of your door knob twisting doesn’t stop, or the sound of the door closing isn’t him coming back.

you stay in the same place for various minutes, you’re desperately sniffling and trying to catch some air, but none of that helps, nothing will ever help, only him, and now he’s gone.

you’re alone, completely alone now, just you and your thoughts, and your thoughts are devastating.

clark’s face is flooded with a river of tears. he never wanted to do what he did, you’re one of the only people left in his life, and his most special one too, and he just lost you. but clark could never deal with your blood on his hands, how guilty he’d feel if he ever lost you at the hands of someone he’s trying to defeat and he couldn’t save you.

clark wishes he’d stay there and spend his life with you, he was willing to give up the superman title if it meant spending a century with you, but he couldn’t bear the idea of millions of losses just because someone would stop at nothing to end him.

after this moment, clark kent swore to himself, that if he can’t have you, no one can have him. he’d love no one else unless it wasn’t you, and he wouldn’t spend his life with someone else unless her name was y/n l/n. never.

There's one thing to say you do not see Jinx in a romantic relationship because you hc her being aromantic or aroace. Those I can get behind. That's harmless fun.

It's a completely different thing to say that, you can't see Jinx in romantic relationships — or any loving relationship, even platonic ones— because of her mental illness. That she's not capable of loving anyone because she's "crazy" (And yes, I've seen people boil her down to just... "Crazy"... which is problematic and I don't think I need to explain why)

(Also the whole not thinking Jinx can't love people cause of TB is another can of worms that involves a lot of not so thinly veiled racism cause Ekko is a black character, but that's a tangent for another day.)

Mind you Jinx as a character is defined by love. Love for her sister, her best friend turned enemy, both her fathers... and lest we forget that she literally took in an orphan and provided her all the love she didn't always get herself.

Arcane is a show about love. The things that we do for love, both the good and the bad. The people we become because of love. And Jinx is not any different.

The love for her family with Vi and Vander. The co-dependent and toxic paternal love with Silco. The tragic, missed out love for Ekko that we literally see how things could have been for them, if their circumstances were different.

It's all a part of Jinx.

Jinx's tragedy is that she loves so much, and so deeply and by the end of the series she doesn't believe that people can love her back/shouldn't love her back, that her love for them is what hurts them.

And if she really is dead, then she died believing that she is unlovable, that Vi and Ekko should not love her, because loving her gets them hurt. That they'd be better off— happier— without her.

Which isn't true. We see the aftermath of her leaving them. We see Ekko alone at the end, mourning her. We see Vi lose a part of herself the moment she let's go.

Jinx loves so much. So forgive me if I get a little pissed off when her so called "fans" love to mischaracterize her as this unfeeling "manic pixie dream girl" Who sees Vi as her "possession" and who hates Ekko.

The Ekko part I specifically blame on the showrunners and writers.

God bless the animators did the best to convey their feelings with what little scraps the writers left behind.

The fact that you need to buy different versions of an art book to find out, that yes, Jinx does in fact have romantic feelings for Ekko, just as he does for her, that it wasn't just an AU Powder thing. Both versions of her love him.

It is just beyond baffling to me, cause the writers decided to cut them reconciling cause "it'd be a rehash" and then telling people to "use their imagination" It just pisses me off to no extent.

Tldr: Jinx is a character defined by love. People who say Jinx can't feel romantic or platonic love because of mental illness need to stfu. And the writers are shit for making Jinx die believing she was unlovable and that she's an obstacle to them being happy.
