Just what compelled the blue seraphim to leave the sanctuary of Heaven to blindly teleport down to Hell? Perhaps it was naive curiosity, or the feeling of being coddled and protected too much from the darker truths in the universe. It really did not matter now, for the deed was done and Lucid now found himself in the elegant chamber of an unknown palace. Before him sat a throne, empty at the moment yet still imposing a regal power that both awed and unnerved the young seraphim.

He dared not approach it, instead opting to investigate the tapestry’s and portraits that lined the walls. An imposing figure was in every one of them, and its resemblance to Lucid uncanny. He stopped before one of the single portraits, taking in every detail of the demon. The seraphim had only seen a few portraits and sculptures of the fallen angel in Heaven, hidden away in the private sector of archangel halls. His was always covered up by sheets, as if a block out some ungodly sight that threatened to taint the beauty of the hall. They always made the young seraphim wonder about his predecessor…

A sound alerted Lucid that he was not alone, turning in the direction to face what or whoever it was. The feathers of his wings ruffled, eyes widening. Of Father, he hadn’t just teleported anywhere in Hell…

Lucid had teleported right into Lucifer Morningstar home!

Why Reckless Attack?

I honestly believe that part of the draw of listening to people play a TTRPG is not just the story telling but an assurance that adults can somehow actually and consistently come together, in person, to pull off a full long term game. Reckless Attack is one such podcast. They are a small indie podcast with excellent audio quality and editing. 

But, why should you listen to another high fantasy podcast? Well, have you ever wanted to see what a post-apocalyptic High Fantasy world would look like? The deeper you delve into Reckless Attack, the deeper the lore gets, and we have barely scratched the surface a hundred episodes in. You’ll join the players as they explore a world recovering from an apocalyptic event, ripe with magic and unstable artifacts, an undead army, and frogs.

Starting The Pod

Right out the gate, the listeners are greeted by a Lord of the Rings style opening monologue, giving relevant history and context to the kind of place the characters live in. I personally get the feeling a lot of the world was established in a previous game or between the DM and players prior to the start of this campaign. If, as a listener, it feels like you're missing something, don't worry; you'll get a lot more context down the road, especially once the players make it to the city of Agmar (Episode 15). The first 15 episodes are a nice slow build up. 

Conveniently, the first recap episode covers Episode 1-14! (Though I really enjoyed the first 14 episodes, I know not everyone has the amount of listening time I have). If you are so inclined to start from the first episode, you'll get nicely eased into the characters and their relationships with one another before a lot of the bigger world building really starts to soar.

(My one caveat is that I listen to this podcast at 1.3-1.4 speed since the players and Nathan speak with a good amount of pauses, and that can be a little too slow for me.)

About the Team

Nathan, the DM for the main campaign, paints some amazing pictures of his homebrew world. He has a real talent for creating larger than life NPCs and Big Baddies for his players to interact with. They all have clear motivations, flaws, and personalities that truly rounds out the overall story. When it comes to plot, Nathan kept me on my toes with plot twists that would literally snap me out of whatever multitasking I was doing. And I must recognize how often Nathan opens the floor for the players to build parts of the story and describe longer stretches of downtime. Those moments are like the equivalent of cinematic montages to represent the passing of time.

The players, Sophie, Steve, David, and Jonathan, deliver wonderful descriptions and leave plenty of space for each other to speak, balanced with just the right amount of crosstalk. Each character has a very unique voice which is helpful for listeners (especially because David and Jonathan are twins and have similar voices).

Sophie plays Valeska Carter, the Human * Cleric. "Valeska is a young woman in search of answers. Like, compulsively."* I quickly fell in love with Val, an exhausted nerd who can never have enough notes and organization. If you're the kind of person who is always rescuing animals, you will love her too. 

Steve plays Selv Asterlin, the Dragonborn Monk. "Selv’s years at his town’s icy mountain monastery has trained not just his body, but also his mind and emotions. The large dragonborn seeks to be a peacemaker in conflicts, exuding strength, calm and serenity while straying away from violence and lethal force when possible."* But don't be fooled, Selv is often one for the occasional good prank, and I always appreciate Steve's references even when the rest of the group don't understand them. (I got you Steve) 

David plays Kascorin "Kass" Brightmane, the Dwarven Warlock. "Tomorrow (Kass leaves) this city for the Golden Tree adventuring guild, and in leaving this city, (He leaves his) friends, (his) family, and (his) comfortable life behind."* Kass is very grounded, serious, and focused, until he runs into tasty dried meats. Kass has all the charm of a warlock and the grit of a soldier. 

Jonathan plays Checkers, the Gung Druid, with his trusty pals Mango and Junior. "Joining the Golden Tree adventuring guild on a dare, Checkers and his frog pal Mango are here to prove that it’s better to find your own path than to follow someone else’s. After all, where’s the fun in looking before you leap?"* Checkers is a lot like the characters I personally play. Someone who doesn't stand around for too much planning and prefers to "leap" into action. In my very humble opinion, every group needs an instigator. 

I have also come to really admire the level of trust and respect the group has for one another. They handle both wonderful whimsical beats as well as solemn moments with great care (Episode 108 was magnificent.)

About the World

Ryxia is built on a world where long ago, the Gods walked among mortals, but one day they left. As if in consequence, magic in this world seems to ebb and flow, and monsters roam the wilds. Until, the "second of Ryxia’s twin suns disappeared from the sky, the Ultragiants appeared, and the Pentarchy’s great capital city of Narhasur was turned into a smoldering crater." *

You can think of the Ultra Giants as the Titans of this world, being elemental and colossal. These Ultra Giants terrorized mortals until one day, the mortals managed to kill one " wielding their city’s Object of Focus… The object was destroyed, as was much of the army. But strangely, within days, the Ultragiants no longer stalked Ryxia."*

As the mortals re-emerged, they started to rebuild despite the incredible amount of monsters who now roam the lands.

Aside from the main campaign Nathan has his own series called Reckless A-Talk. This series Nathan or others on the team interview incredible people from all over the TTRPG space. Nathan's style of interviewing is mostly allowing his guest to speak more than he does, followed by the wonderful lightning round questions. I highly recommend listening to these (as a little treat) if you are interested in learning other perspectives and other aspects of the industry. 

Bonus one shots are another part of Reckless Attack, allowing the players to take the reigns.  They serve as fun filler for when you just can't wait for the next episode to drop.

Hi everyone, my name is Bunni/Bun, I'm 25 and go by She/They pronouns! I've been roleplaying and writing fanfics for a little over a decade and decided it's finally time to create a blog. Typically when roleplaying i prefer to write in third person and write anywhere between three/four paragraphs depending on how inspired i am at the moment! for every new member that joins, you will have the opportunity to be included in the follow-up to this plot drop after both parts have ended. current new members have been added automatically, to give them an opportunity to get involved.

HOW SELECTION WORKS :

generally, we have written the plot drop & its injuries / transpirations with what we’ve come to know about the muse(s) who were randomly selected in mind & their previous threads. however, if we ever dictate an action that you deem ill-fitting of your muse, you can ignore it entirely or ask for an amendment you deem most fitting. we want this to be fun & what we write is only meant to be the starting point.

our selection was entirely random for part of the plot drop, but some muses were determined through hand-picked selections. we always use a random team generator to determine who will receive injuries or starter lottery. we have over seventy muses & bars in place to keep some from being picked too many times consecutively. 

major injuries & death, if any, are hand-selected on the basis of the butterfly effect this time, per our notes about the plot progressions, individual & group-centric, of muses. we keep track of these as much as we can & take note of anything significant that could be utilized.

our major plot points this time were hand-selected based on prior plot progressions or discussions. writers selected for major plot points will sit out for the plot drop call for our next plot drop following this two-parter being wrapped.

for fairness, any one muse who has been selected at random three times for a plot drop in a row will sit out the next random selection. there are no triple crown muses at this time.

if any of your muses are on our #role-selections bulleted list within the discord server, said muse(s) are excluded from being chosen, randomly or otherwise in our plot drops until you have fulfilled our requirements under the plot drop section of our rules.

A KILLER IS ON THE LOOSE. police responded to reports late last night at the marionette. following noise complaints from multiple residents ( seokmin choi, renata vargas & valeria graves-seong ), police arrived at the scene to address the domestic dispute of two or possibly THREE femme voices causing a ruckus. according to law enforcement, at the time of their arrival, mr. moschetti-sanchez met them at the door, in a state of complete distress, & we're told the scene inside was a horror show, folks, we've never seen anything like it — ELIANA MOSCHETTI was declared deceased on the scene. the coroner has yet to confirm cause of death, but there were multiple stab wounds to the body. talk about a crime of passion ... one other person was found at the scene, allegedly having slept through the crime being committed in another room. josette leighton was brought in for questioning as a potential person of interest. is this a tragic coincidence & a bad luck streak ?? tabloids hit last year & if i've got my facts right, jocelyn, she's the birth mother of willow cho-iverson ?? is it possible that this woman is unfit to be among our society ? however, let's not jump to any conclusions without the facts. the law were able to track down the other resident of the apartment, eliana's youngest child rosalind, & they claim a different story : A BEAST OF A MAN CLIMBED UP THE FIRE ESCAPE WHILE THEY WERE ARGUING, & assaulted the mother & child. the sketch artist created an image of our alleged killer which we have up on the screen for you now. if you see this man, call the local station immediately !! when we have more updates, we will report back."

anonymous tips came flooding in, as a few individuals claimed to have seen josette leighton getting into a heated argument with an UNIDENTIFIED PERSON a couple of weeks ago on january 16th & behaving strangely before leaving the premises of the ivy ... ( takaharu mochizuki, liliana weiss, & li yanlin ).

other, still, claim that they saw the unidentified man leaving the marionette the night of the homicide, january 21st, & were willing to corroborate to police as bystanders : aang ruan, hirokazu amuro, & ahva dawarn.

on the morning of january 22nd, after detectives had left the building, two of the callers — seokmin choi & renata vargas — received notes underneath their doors with the same writing as the flyer ads they received for the broom closet antiques & pawn shop. it reads : look inside the dead man's chest & you'll find the key. are you up for stealing a dead body ?

all other residents of the marionette were asked if they would feel comfortable answering a few questions about the night of the murder in the building ... a special task will drop within the next week .

Hello! Long time no see. I’m back in the world of searching for roleplay partners now my life has calmed down a little and I have a lovely work from home job. I currently have one long term writing partner (writing together for probably about 4 years now… jeez) but I’d love to expand my horizons. Due to the experience i have with writing, when i am in charge of writing starters i tend to break not just the basic character limit in discord but also the nitro character limit. No way do i expect you to mimic that length!! It is a starter which (in my mind) means length isn't 110% needed to be matched! When it does come to replies though, I don't have any sort of set expectations. As long as i see you replying with effort, I don't mind!! I always try my bestest to mimic my partner's reply length and style! Triggers n such ; I don't have many? I mean.. I do, but its something I can often work through if it's relating to the plot. I am a victim of SA so like I do my best to avoid that so I don't do dubcon, noncon, ect. and stalking puts me off too considering I have history of that too. Again, I don't know if these are truly triggers if I can work through them if it's plot-related or completely goes with the story we have. My name is Lia and I’m finally getting back into the swing of writing over on discord and I’m in need of new writing partners 🖤 I’m 23 so 21+ preferred!

I like to write longterm and while I enjoy being consistently active I’ll be starting school up again in September and I work full time now so I may have sporadic bouts of inactivity however I will communicate those and still be around for ooc chatter and headcanons and the likes!

writing preferences:

-I write on discord exclusively at the moment and I love to write in organized private servers which I have no problem setting up :)

-I also prefer multiple muses and pairings and building interconnected worlds with my writing partners! at this time solo ships are a bit hard for me but we can talk it out! however I do not “double” as I do not want to write transactionally. I will love every ship we have and it makes me sad writing against writers who don’t orient the same

-I write m in mxf and mxm as my preferred pairing types but can also write f pairings in fxf and more selectively in mxf. with this being said, as much as I love pairing my boys against your girls I am not the right partner for female only writers :( I do enjoy having mxm pairings and even if we don’t actively have one I like the potential for one down the road

-I would love to befriend my writing partners because I think it makes it more collaborative and fun so if you don’t enjoy that I may not be the right partner for you either because I will ramble :,) I love talking about our ships and where they can go next and sending visual inspo for our muses and pairings but I also am always happy to lend an ear if my writing friends ever need to vent 🫶🏼

I’m making a little post because I’d love to dabble in some AOT rp’s! Please note I’m completely new to this fandom and its characters so I’m not yet at a point where I’m comfortable writing any of them, purely because I’ve never had the chance to, but I’d love to try it!!

I work full time, so I apologise if I can’t always reply really quickly but I’ll always aim for at least 1-2 replies a day!

I write in the third person and literate - however I very much value quality over quantity, so I’m happy for you to offer small replies! I’d always much prefer a short, well thought out reply over a long multi paragraph reply of waffle

I typically find when I rp, our responses start long as we set the scene, and gradually level out to shorter replies as we grow comfortable

I love dead dove content but it is not a must!! We can talk about our boundaries and find something we’re both comfortable with. I’m equally as happy for fluff too!

I’d love to hear any and all ideas you may have!! I don’t judge, go wild!! Chances are we will find something we’re both loving!

I always value an interest plot over smut. Smut is always welcome, but I won’t typically rp PURELY for smut, if that makes sense

experience: started in pokémon. got traumatized. went to animerp. also got traumatized. the cycle repeats for about 6 years.

preferred roleplay type: dependent on the day! i've always preferred writing something fluffy as opposed to angsty, ( but the lines are very thin for this muse ) only because jack's already a VERY angsty character and as a whole and i feel if i kept writing angst i'd run out of material quickly.

pet peeves / dealbreakers: forced shipping &&. self—inserts that seem too inserted, eg. forcing themselves onto my muses. ( i realize it's essentially the same thing but trust there's a difference. ) i've only ever shipped muses after messages of development and if i see potential. it's also a matter of personal comfort.

i've had past experiences where people took it too far with their muses and got personally affected by their relationship which is INSANELY unhealthy.

another one is just ship jealousy? i've personally NEVER experienced it as the receiver before, i hope i never do anyway, but we're all friends and grown—ups here im sure we could just write without any hidden agendas. i've had people close to me suffer from this before and it's incredibly sad &&. pathetic, y'all don't do that pls.

best time to write: evening or like. really early in the morning LMAOOO. i'm a night owl most of the times so if im not getting to anything in the morning or afternoon, it's mostly all churned out at night. ( but ofc that doesn't mean i'm not active during the morning or afternoon. )

are you like your muse?: to a large extent, definitely. i wouldn't go as far as to call us twins tho? even if some people do, there's just some things that we see differently.

for starters, unlike this loser, i can swim. /silly i got medals to back my claim.

i'm definitely not as dense to love as this dude is, and i'm able to differentiate platonic and romantic ties. this SUCKS so bad knowing he's also a womanizer in the last books .. i need his ass GONE.

in terms of similarities, i truly see him as something of a vessel to articulate my grief and anger as well as nostalgia through my boyo. :3 and since i've practically rewritten his ass to incorporate book and movie and mythology lore ( it gave me a MIGRAINE during my work i swear ;; the amt of effort i place into him needs to go widespread to my course. ) parts of me are also within to fill the plot holes. <3
