some time ago I saw you tag a post about isekai abt how they're are a different type of hell to write compared to a "normal" au. and now I'm curious. how are they different?

well. for one, isekai is a bad genre—

no. i mean it is. most isekai ive read—and ive read a lot of isekai—is objectively not very good. entertaining sometimes! but not very good

but actually it’s bc the isekai fic i wrote ended up significantly more popular than i thought it would be (cannot stress enough, when i wanted to write it, i had to explain to every one of my friends i talked abt it with what “isekai” was, which lead me to think maybe the genre wasn’t as well-known as id thought) and immediately eclipsed the stats of every other fic i’d ever written. that thing got gorgeous art and fics written abt it, like, ???????? my friends made up the entire dating sim plotline and started talking about writing a full LN. of my fake dating sim. my roommate coded a little bit of it? one of my fencing teammates told me they’d read it before knowing it was me bc of one of those fics, which is mortifying. pretty sure i was in rendog cosplay when they said this so like definitely not the most mortifying thing abt that convo objectively but it added something for sure

coughs uh anyway. y’know. maybe i should have been more specific. writing one is fine. has its own unique challenges like any other au. living with having written one, however? hell

(regarding the five pebbles and seven red suns ship) i feel like when it comes to the iterators either interpretation could be valid?? like some people interpret them as friends, some interpret them as family

like, lttm says "one of [pebble's] friends" when talking about suns, and then suns themselves says (paraphrasing a bit) "as a long time friend" on the pearl they send to him

in regards to the ancients calling themselves the iterators parents, i always felt like it was akin to the way some religious people say that everyone is a children of [insert god here] or something, like a metaphor

no no youre good cus im not looking to cause shit myself! im just confused. if anything i was nervous to ask anything cus ive heard some people in the rw discord are quick to dispute this whenever its brought up about shipping the two and as someone whos been around fandom for a long time thats a preeeetty bad sign.

also same here abt seeing suns and pebs as just friends, its just that now that ive returned to rw a few years later and looked into the lore pearls again that i think its implied that iterators would see eachother as somewhat related perhaps?

i didnt think about the iterators being considered like "children of (godlike figure)" but in hindsight, thats also a possibility. In the lore pearl that this is brought up they also say that five pebbles is "their gift to the world" or something like that, and that seems to fit with that theme as well...

and yeah, when it comes to all forms of art, no interpretation is truly wrong. i think the main point that bothers me aside from the possibly siblings stuff is i feel like this isnt what people should be getting out of the iterators plotline? like shipping is fun. it is for fun. im not gonna go after people for that! but i also feel like people should be taking a step back and appreciating the characters for what they are and not for what they could be. if that makes sense?

about your second point, i have something to say about that but its MAJOR downpour spoilers, specifically for the rivulet and the spearmaster campaigns so im just gonna put it under a readmore

in the rivulets campaign, when asking the rivulet to do one last thing for him, pebbles calls moon "an old friend" himself (in fact thats what the achievement for finishing rivulet is called). moon very explicitly sees pebbles as a younger brother and expresses this at the end of the campaign. and in the spearmasters campaign theres those satellite things that show iterator logs when touched, and we get to see 2 iterators (from what i assume to be a neighboring group) gossiping about pebs, one of them brings up the fact that pebs was built near moon and the other asks "Isn't she his senior enough to the point where she calls herself 'Big Sis Moon'?". Its much more explicit that moon views her group as her younger siblings but pebs still calls her an old friend of his regardless!

last of all, someone said this in the tags of my post but looking at the lore pearl convo between pebbles and suns as well as the one between suns and wind really gives suns the impression of an older sibling, at least it does to me. also, back to those satellites in the spearmasters campaign, suns says that pebbles always looked up to them and they never took that lightly. srs is someone pebbles considers close because he looks up to him!

Their dynamic is something interesting to me now bc of downpour and im all about bullshitting and reading into things a little bit more for ships, but looking at SRS and FP.... how do i describe it. i dont really feel like theres SPACE for shipping in this case? like it wouldnt be necessarily invalid but its kinda missing the Point of the spearmasters campaign i feel. infact i feel like this is the only reason people see seven red suns as male despite none of the other iterators having specified genders (unless the dlc confirmed a gender for suns, then i missed that). anyways this last paragraph is just me rambling oops

ok as i was saying imo fnaf 1 is still definitely the scariest of the games like. especially when it first came out like it was just Uncanny Fucking Valley to the peak with the models, NOBODY knew what was going on, it was literally like the first “mainstream” game at the time to use the five-nights and jumpscare format for scares, the golden freddy easter eggs were creepy as hell, and the atmosphere was [chef’s kiss] Literally Fucking Impeccable. as people got used to the format ofc like the jumpscares got less and less scary and the animatronics kind of like... the only way i can describe it is like when a cat puffs itself up to look scarier because its bigger?? like adding teeth + spikes + etc. is nice but they just. Do Not capture the effect of how UNCANNY the original models are

I think you should go for it! ST fans can be sort of... intense but honestly if they cant handle criticism of their fav series then they should just like. not interact with the post (or get blocked if theyre assholes abt it). Also I'm interested now that you mention it!

i would talk about the racism issue solely, but it’s a fundamental problem with the 2nd season as a whole. it is sort of imbedded deep in the season and there’s no good way to properly discuss it without bringing up a lot of other stuff.

overall i do think season 2 is a great season of television. it just happens to be the worst stranger things season, but at the end of the day it’s still rlly good! a lot of iconic parts of stranger things originate from s2, steve’s redemption and his relationship with dustin, el and hopper’s relationship, the introduction of max and billy, etc. however, you can tell this season was written in under a year with all the questionable turns they took and the choices they made (cough cough what they did with billy and whatever 008’s deal was cough cough) but i’ll get to that.

a big issue with it is the pacing. its very long and drags on and the different storylines are not as interconnected as they are in the 1st and 3rd. 9 episodes and they spend a lot of time trudging onward toward the actual plot, the whole existence of episode 8 and that awful fucking cliff hanger, yeah.

unlike in the 1st season and the 3rd, the characters are split up because the duffers are aware that if they had been together from the beginning everything could have been solved immediately. compare that to the other seasons and the characters are split up because they are tackling different chunks of the same big mystery, them meeting up in the end and exchanging information feels more natural.

that also connects into the whole plotline with eleven.. it was set up beautifully but fell flat on its face almost immediately. i feel that the stuff with her mother was extremely well done, the cold opening with 008/kali was top tier and rlly gets you excited for everything. and then they deliver the “spinoff pilot” episode; it has good moments sure but kali as a character (and her gang as well) feel like badly written ocs. their dialogue is also Atrocious, good god. kali also has no real connection to the lab aside from being a number and getting her angsty edgy revenge? she doesn’t rlly teach us anything new about the lab or her and el’s backstory, which is a damn shame :(

there’s also max. i do rlly like her but her “not like other girls” introduction was a little bit gross imo. i think they did a good job rounding her out by the end; the romance plot with lucas was a little unnecessary and weird tho lol. that’s about it with her, otherwise i see why she’s a fan favorite :]

and then of course there is the elephant in the room, billy. it’s kind of a hard thing to talk about because there was so little tact in writing him and this entire thing. i just feel like, billy is a pretty tragic character overall, not just because of what they did to him but his purpose as well? i don’t know if most people are aware, but billy’s whole purpose and the reason behind his introduction was him getting possessed and dying (though, they didn’t have the full plot for s3 down yet). he was a character brought in to uplift steve and make him look better, he was created solely to be a piece of shit. honestly, it feels a little sucky to me.. he was written to be a 2D bully/villain, which rlly sucks because as far as i can tell a lot of the characters are not set up to be so two dimensional.

the characters are a big part of why the show works so well, they feel incredibly real and fleshed out (aside from the russians in s3 but thats a whole different topic, idk if i’m fully equipped to cover it). his actor had to come in and ask them if billy could have a little more to his character than that. he was trying hard to make this character meaningful and have a little more to him than just being a 2D jackass. i feel like his character would have been a total waste if not for the changes they made to him, especially with how talented his actor is. god and the decision to make him vaguely racist? Fucking Awful.

from what i understand the duffers were the one who wanted the subplot in the first place. kind of gross because they are two very white men who wouldn’t even begin to understand what goes into a subject like this, let alone how unnecessary the whole thing was. i like the show but at the end of the day it was still pretty immature at the time and not built for such heavy subject matter.. and the way they executed it really fucking shows that. they drop vague hints but never actually commit, the scenes are incredibly uncomfortable and not in a thought provoking way like they wanted. if they did talk with black writers and try to understand their experiences, or hell just have them write the damn thing, it really doesn’t show.

it also just fucking sucks for lucas as a character. they do so little with him and then they subject him to a very prominent trope in media— they couldn’t just let lucas be a black main character in a cool sci fi horror setting, something that is incredibly rare mind you, they HAD to make being discriminated against a part of his storyline. as a black person it honestly just breaks my heart that he and other black characters are reduced to discrimination and always in such a tasteless way.

for the third season, they somewhat retconned the whole thing. probably due to backlash. on one hand i’m incredibly grateful because the whole thing felt rlly disgusting and i like billy as a character. but on the other i am disappointed that they did. they made a shitty decision and instead of committing and writing it better, they just swept it under the rug.

this is all a matter of opinion though, if any other black users find anything wrong with my statements about the use of racism in the show feel free to let me know.

the whole thing just kinda sucks, this show is pretty great otherwise. but something like this is only inevitable in any popular media.

again these are all just my opinions. i have a lot of opinions about stranger things, it’s one of my favorite medias ever. but at the end of the day i’m still critical of it because u have to be, yknow.. i will never understand people over the age of 12 who blindly obsess over smth lol

Why is Ava still the front runner for a potential season 8? Ava has been prominently ft in every season of the new gen - although im not sure if that will remain the case during s7. But srsly is no one on tumblr interested in giving other characters a moment in the sun? Finn, Yara and Mailin are top of my list!

unnecessarily long answer ahead beware 🤸‍♀️ pls read the section in parenthesis at the end too bc i'm talking abt my own opinion here n don't wanna seem like i'm discrediting yours!!

i think the reason she's such a popular pick is actually exactly bc of the fact that she's been a big part of other seasons. her possible storylines have been prefaced & foreshadowed already so moving onto her pov would make sense n be smooth.

this is mostly just my personal opinion but also just generally what makes a good story: the reason noora's season works well is bc she's a central part of eva's story too n we've seen her interactions w william in the past, the reason isak's season works is bc he's tied into the joneva plotline from eva's season & is a background topic in noora's season too, sana's season works bc her faith has been brought up time n time again in the previous seasons. in the context of druck, fatou's season works rly well bc her crush on kieu my has already been discussed & built up in nora's season.

alternatively, tiff's season flopped bc they took a main character that had zero existing storylines & invented a theme for her that was mentioned for the first time ever in a trailer. the reason ismail's season is falling flat for a lot of viewers is bc instead of focusing on the existing plotlines from season 5&6 (ava's bullying, constantin & ismail's draining friendship, the instas as group etc) they've used the first episodes to build character dynamics w completely new characters & lay the foundations for some sort of love drama plot.

TLDR the mains that work best r the ones whose stories are tied to or can be tied to the previous seasons.

for example finn & yara. do i like them? yes, a lot. do i wanna see more of them? absolutely. would i watch a season abt one of them? most likely.

what do i think one of their seasons could be about? i have absolutely no idea bc we don't know anything abt them. they're lovely side characters n in theory i have nothing against the idea of seeing them as a main. but it would mean their season is very separate & detached from everything that's happened in the series so far bc they don't have any existing topics n i assume that's why those kind of side characters aren't as popular.

as for ava i can already name 5 things that 1. could be topics in her season and 2. have an already existing foundation from the previous seasons.

but like i said - and this was kind of the point of my post - the show keeps solving all these possible conflicts n topics ava has as part of other characters' stories which leads me, an avid ava season supporter, to ask the same question as u. why should she be the one to get a season? the more they resolve the less it makes sense to give an entire season to her. don't get me wrong, i personally DO believe she should get a season. i want to see her season. even if they run out of every single plot line for her i'd still watch a season abt her. but i'm worried that if she gets a season she'll end up getting a random theme that they came up with after s6 or s7 that ultimately has nothing to do w her already established story.

(also as a side note 💌 i am in no way trying to say u shouldn't wish to see other characters' seasons. if that's what u would be interested in u have every right to think so!! i'm just explaining what i believe to be the reason behind these type of characters unpopularity as opposed to ava)

yeah! wrestling is very interesting in that it's mostly performance, with very talented people playing characters (some of whom are more gimmicky/comedy, some of whom are very much acts, and some of whom aren't that much different to themselves outside the ring) while still doing insane stuff in the ring! the kinda, suspension of reality that you have to engage with when you watch wrestling is called kayfabe, which is basically presenting staged events as real! you'll also hear things called 'worked' (i.e. fake, within kayfabe) or wrestlers be referred to as 'good/bad/(adjective) workers' (talking about their skill at kayfabe.)

i watch AEW, which is one of like, many wrestling companies in america—i like them because they're big enough to do really cool stuff, and they aren't WWE cos fuck WWE. as for plotlines, you do get ones where it's like 'x wrestler is trying to be the best', which is what thunder rosa is doing right now in women's wrestling, and i support and love her sooooo much. but there's a lot of really interesting feuds, rivalries, factions, etc... so i'll talk about two that are happening in mens wrestling rn, because i'm VERY BEHIND in womens wrestling. and i must amend this instantly.

first off, CM Punk and MJF! you've probably seen me post about this one a lot. it's the two sweaty guys making each other bleed a lot from the forehead. the plotline goes thusly:

cm punk (hereon referred to as punk) is a very famous wrestler who had a long stint on WWE before leaving the company and wrestling as a whole for 7 years

MJF (maxwell jacob friedman) watched punk when he was growing up (he's 26, punk is 42) and saw punk leaving wwe due to personal reasons and mistreatment from higherups as a betrayal and abandonment of his fans

punk came back to AEW after his 7 year hiatus. MJF went to meet him, punk brushed him off.

mjf gets mad, and they have their first fight in punk's hometown, mjf wearing a t-shirt with a photo of 13 year old MJF meeting punk at a meet and greet. which gets covered in blood. MJF wins and proclaims he's the best in the world (because that's what punks old tagline was)

their next fight is a dog collar match, where they're both wearing dog collars chained together and its fucking BRUTAL and i love it. that's the match im constantly RB'ing. extremely homoerotic extremely violent extremely psychosexual

at the end of that fight, when they're both lying on the floor from exhaustion, MJF calls for his sidekick, wardlow, to bring him the ring (a physical finger ring) that he uses for his finishing punch. wardlow instead leaves it on the floor by punk, who uses it to land the finishing blow on MJF and end the match

where we're at currently is MJF has now kicked wardlow out of his inner circle of the best wrestlers on AEW, and i believe wardlow has effectively turned face? (a heel being an 'evil' wrestler, a face or babyface being a 'good' wrestler—MJF is a heel, punk is a face)

TL;DR, young wrestler felt betrayed by his idol who abandoned wrestling, feels the need to prove he's better than is idol. its psychosexual

and uuuuh the best friends plotline!

the best friends are a tag team with trent baretta and chuck taylor, but also more generally a faction including kris statlander (cool alien girl), orange cassidy (funny little denim guy) and our main man wheeler 'yoots' yuta

wheeler yuta joined the best friends when trent left due to an injury, and now trent is back, there's a lot of friction

a bit ago, william regal, a strange british man who runs the tag team blackpool combat club, offered to let wheeler yuta into their faction if he could prove himself

best friends are obviously quite sad about this

jon moxley, one of bcc, beats yuta, but yuta does INCREDIBLY WELL in that fight and william regal offers him a place in bcc, leaving the best friends

and we'll see what happens next!

so there's two current plots, but they're absolutely not everything that's going on on AEW rn, just a taster for the kind of stuff there is >:) wrasslin good wrasslin fun

Listening to Now's Your Chance To Be A on repeat, a few notes and headcanons:

I now headcanon that Jevil teamed up with Spamton to make that song, because the higher parts in the song sound just like him

At the end(50 seconds in all the way to the end) it stops sounding like "Now's your chance to" and starts sounding like "now he can't move". I have no idea what this would mean, but I'd love to hear your theories!

I love that Toby Fox named it that and then the other route's track is named "BIG SHOT" XD

Mumbo's escalation definitely has something to do with the moon. How could it not? It was noticed only an episode (I believe) before this, and it was noticed by both Mumbo and Grian, who seem to be the biggest players in this plotline. My questions are how and why. It's a common myth that people are crazier on the full moon, so who knows what would happen if the moon got bigger?

This could have some spectacular implications to what's really happening. What does Evil X know of this? What does Mumbo know of Evil X? I'm so excited!

It feels like a lot of people didn't notice the resolution of Mumbo's "Peace, Love, and Plants" arc, so I'm going to summarize and then rave abt it(Go watch Mumbo and Grian's episodes if you haven't yet!)

(spoilers for Hermitcraft s8)

So, Scar drops them all in the Boatem Hole(a very good place for their season to end, but that's another rant) and Mumbo and Grian are the last two to go down, with Grian on half a heart.

(Grian has kept himself on half a heart throughout their getting into the spaceship in preparation for this moment)

Grian suggests a high five for old times sake, and when they do so, Mumbo's hit kills Grian, whom Mumbo squeezed out his soul from, whom he had the Tree War with, who's been his best friend. His no killing streak was ended, not by some murderous cheat day like he had thought, but by a goodbye gesture at the end of the world.

Just, that whole gesture is so poetic to me, and it feels like it got skipped over by a lot of the fanbase. I loved every second of it.

hey, i don't mind! if u spend like a minute scrolling through the "mine" tag on my blog you will find me replying a LOT to ppl on my posts, bc i genuinely love discussing this show! (and u will also find that it would be very hypocritical for me to be annoyed at ur response for being "too long")

overall tho i agree with what u said! character count is limited in the replies so i was simplifying my stance a lot, and the "bullying" part especially came out wrong. someone actually @'ed me on a separate post abt that part, so i did elaborate on what i meant here. the short version: izzy doesn't bully stede, but he would agree with stede's childhood bullies abt how soft and unmanly stede is. so when steddyhands fic make stede be really nice to izzy with no character growth on izzy's part, not only is it wildly ooc but it also just rubs me the wrong way.

(obviously tho the real reason izzy doesn't like stede is bc stede is stealing ed's attention and ruining the edgy pirate lifestyle izzy's been enjoying for the past several years)

anyway, i said in another post that my take on steddyhands is "not my thing but i respect it," bc i DO see the appeal. im personally a big fan of characters having Difficult Conversations and growing as people, deconstructing toxic thought patterns and learning to get along. but so much steddyhands content... Doesn't Do That!!! they're just indulging in their fanon fantasy of giving izzy nice things, which is fine i guess. but I dislike izzy hands as he behaves in canon, and i don't want him to get nice things without some good old-fashioned character growth. and i LOVE reading or watching or writing that kind of character growth, so even for fans who don't hate izzy as much as i do, i just... don't see the appeal of just pampering him in fic with no actual analysis of his character. imo it feels like such a waste of a very interesting character

but i can at least see a fanfic plotline where the three of them end up together in a way that doesn't have one of the characters acting insanely ooc. (i am actually. writing a reblog on this post. with the synopsis of such a fic). when it is ooc, that's when it really looses any potential appeal for me.

(ps. i'm not entirely sure if your prediction for the next season is how i think season 2 will go. for starters, i don't think ed was actually all that "erratic" at the end of the season. from the perspective of the other characters who don't know the whole story, yeah, but all of ed's behavior pretty clearly came in response to the things he was going through. he got left at the dock (essentially getting dumped), so he stayed in his room crying for a full day (several days? the timeline is kinda wonky). lucius encouraged him to open up and let go, so ed came out of hiding and started talking to people and cleaning up his room. izzy threatens to kill ed, makes ed think about all the people who've abandoned him and how this crew might be the same, and ed retreats into Blackbeard again, the version of himself that nobody fucks with. but even at the end of the episode, he's still in control of himself; he's very calm and collected as he goes about intimidating izzy, hiring jim, and getting rid of stede's stuff/crew.

so like, idk how much izzy will be regretting his actions in s2. considering his reaction to the toe thing, i don't think he has a problem with the Kraken. after almost getting thrown overboard by stede's crew, izzy knows he needs ed/blackbeard to stay alive. and izzy needs ed to act like Blackbeard, or else izzy is of no use to ed (like, it's not as if izzy was gonna participate in the talent show, lol). the only thing that could make izzy unhappy next season is if ed decides he doesn't need izzy anymore, and considering that izzy is the one who pushed ed back into being blackbeard, i don't think ed's gonna come to that conclusion on his own.)

once again, cannot stress enough how much steddyhands is not my thing, but i'm once again thinking abt how all the steddyhands content i see just does stede so dirty and it literally. almost makes me want to write my own steddyhands fic just to show y'all how it's done fhjkfhgjdfk

-i think them and kai (on behalf of yuya) and depending on how things were to go post-canon. perhaps even zeo should get to form a beating-the-shit-out-of-zagart club. NEVER forget that zagart was technically the one ultimately behind this and he was well aware of what was happening in the battle tower

-speaking of zagart actually this is a bit more of an au thing (more specifically a hypothetical version of v-force where psykick just did not exist, same events zagart is just more directly responsible for things now) but you could proooobably make an argument for it being applicable to canon if we're saying zagart told them abt psykick. but i feel like how they ended up involved with this whole thing is like, already existing group of friends who were interested in zagart's research on the four sacred beasts. and he sees this group of probably like, high schoolers? i'm just takin a shot in the dark idk but he sees these people who genuinely look up to him and he's like "oh you know what. yeah i'll manipulate these people into helping me steal the sacred beasts"

-god i really i need to write more i swear to god. like everything i write is an au to some degree even if that's not like, the basis of it. i have like 3.5 different story ideas relating to v-force though. i think about the digital sacred beasts plotline every day of my life
