Seeing how there only 10 episodes left do you think Rachel will rush the ending?

The way I see she needs to somehow resign Apollo reign, reawaken the God's, have Persophone defeat Kronos, have Persophone create Elysian, stop the entered winner/killing of nymphs and humans, hell we don't even know what is Leto end goal and what is her whole role in this series other than manipulating Apollo to be king. We don't even know what exactly she did with Zeus (but knowing Rachel she made Leto the other woman despite the fact she was another respectable goddess)

Imo I think Rachel is officially done done with her series and know her viewers are fed up with her constant milking of the series. You can even see it in some of her work where you know she just gave up (unless it's her self insert scenes)

On a side note another thing I should point out is the anti climax of Leuce and Thetis. Besides the fact she made Leuce another other woman the way she made Leuce expression during Persophone home Invasion made it look like she wasn't going to back down. Only for her to make be forgotten 3/4 of the final arc and is never mention again. Persophone didnt even ask Hades how does he even know Leuce. So unless Rachel has plans for her again that was the last time we saw her making that whole plot unless.

While Thetis plot.........

I'll be honest she just got a slap on a wrist and Rachel just insert Achilles as a way to bait her audience/trying to make a cultural reference. Tbh I thought Thetis would have a bigger story like fast-forward she believes she gotten everything she wanted and is now Queen only for the Trojan war occur and she only lost her status bur her son. Thus making the scene a poetic justic/tragedy.

I'll finish this off since I don't want to run my mouth about this series so here's my 2 cent. Rachel is putting to many Greek mythologies in her series that a) she has forgotten about characters b) everyone is now expecting her to have this series be all wrapped up in a nice bow when it actually be worse c) and because she has so many subplots they are left unresolved or unsatisfied

Oh, Persephone created Elysium already. It was literally just this LMAO

Okay in all honesty I don't know if that was actually meant to be Elysium, but I remember seeing people comment on the S2 finale when she was bee-burping at Kronos that she was creating Elysium at the same time as fighting Kronos and I just... yeah okay? But they literally haven't even name-dropped it since the trial. This is what I mean when I criticize Rachel's writing for depending WAY too much on reader headcanon, because not only will she just roll with whatever her fans theorize, she'll do so without actually writing it into the comic so unless you're in the FB groups and Discord, you're probably not gonna pick up on every little decision Rachel made because she's making them with half a thought and a quarter of the effort needed to express it. It means people can say whatever and she'll just take credit for it like "yeah! that was Elysium! totally! you get it! okay moving on-"

As for the Leuce thing, Hades deadass met Leuce when Zeus offered her up as a bride, which Zeus explained to Persephone during the S2 finale arc-

-but again it suffers from a lot of the same issues of Rachel not expanding on her ideas and just resolving them with some other random plot convenience. Why would Leuce be so obsessed with getting with Hades that she'd make up fake text messages? Rachel just really didn't want Hades to be interacting with other women in the 10 years that Persephone was gone, so she had to make Leuce delusional for it to work ?? Why would she go so far as to tell Hades about the text messages if they weren't real the whole time?

-but then of course before Hades can respond to this, Persephone interrupts, meaning the plotline can be put on the backburner until Rachel comes up with a solution to it-

-and then we got to see Persephone 'resolve' the issue by harassing Leuce in her home, and it was only until after THEN that Rachel finally went "no it's fine that Persephone vandalized her home, the text messages weren't real!!! see??? Leuce is just a delusional nimwit! She deserves it!"

And yeah the Thetis and Achilles thing is yet another 'plotline' that Rachel only introduced to try and legitimize her comic as a Greek myth retelling. Just about every myth she tries to portray is done vaguely and without any thought for the world they're inhabiting, it's all just lip service.

At the end of the day, a lot of the writing in LO is 1.) trying to make up for the lack of plot development in the first two seasons (hence why we're now getting sudden lore dumping about how the seasons work) and 2.) trying to make up for its lack of Greek myth set pieces because Rachel has now been openly called out for being arrogant in her 'knowledge' of Greek myth and it has people analyzing just how little Greek there is in this Greek myth "retelling". It's especially apparent in the second season when the whole thing is just self-insert fantasies about Hades and Persephone living together until the plot finally has to get moving again. Every now and then Rachel remembers that this is supposed to be a retelling, so she'll throw in some random Greek myth reference like the Colchian dragon or Aphrodite marrying Hephaestus or Thetis and Achilles.

It's very evident that Rachel never learned how to write a longform story or planned to make LO as long as it is and the story has suffered all the more for it. And it sucks because that's not the story I got onboard with back in 2019-2020, but that's where we are. Ironically, as much as I criticize LO for not having enough Greek myth influence in it, I do think the story would have been far better off if it just stayed as a cheesy office romance fluff fic. It's clearly what Rachel wanted to write but either she or WT (or both) got ahead of themselves and took on more than what LO - and Rachel - were equipped to follow through on.

How would you envision Elrond and Elwing's reunion in Valinor 🥺? I can already imagine they would hug for a lonnngggg time to make up for the years of being forcefully separated from each other. Also, Elrond would be ecstatic to know that Celebrian and Elwing (in my head, lol) have bonded and become close to each other.

yesssss i too believe they would hug and cry for a very long time, like they'd just fall into each other's arms <3<3<3 and elrond can finally break down embraced by his mother the way he never had the chance to for literal thousands of years. a tangent, but i don't think elrond ever felt comfortable showing such extreme, uncontrollable vulnerability in front of others -- having been kidnapped as a child by the people who murdered most of his community and as good as forced his mother to suicide, he pretty much came to hide anything that could be perceived as "weakness" for fear of how maedhros and maglor would react to it. and even though he does grow more emotionally healthy once he finds people with whom he can truly have a good relationship, he still finds it difficult to so entirely let down his guard around people. but with elwing -- it's like he's a child again. as soon as he sees his mother's face, the exact same face that he remembers from his memories and his dreams, the exact same face he associates with strength and love and bravery ever since he was young -- everything all comes rushing out. it's like all the tears of pain and fear at her being taken from him are finally flowing after being reined in for millennia.

i can't imagine how utterly cathartic their reunion, at long last, would be to both of them. they wouldn't let go of each other for a while, that's for sure, and they would probably spend hours and hours and hours learning everything they can about each other. i doubt they'd be willing to be apart for at least several days after that. they are going EVERYWHERE together for the next month. joined at the hip. elwing at some point introduces him to all her friends and kin that she's met and connected with since she came to valinor, and elrond finds a litany of relatives who are delighted and proud and awed. lots of teleri especially are so heartened, particularly the ones who knew thingol from before they came west. that's the great-great-grandson of their king's beloved brother. and speaking of thingol -- elwing has already grown close to him since she came to valinor, she and elrond go to visit him together, and thingol cries once again and adopts yet another descendant. tbh he adopts every single descendant of his that sails west. spoils them rotten like they're children even though they're all grown adults who've seen some shit. what do you mean he can't shower them in every single gift that catches his eye or comes to mind. they're his descendants, he can do what he wants!! he will coddle them, and elrond is by no means an exception.

it's also my hc that elwing and celebrian meet when celebrian arrives in valinor! celebrian tells her mother-in-law all about elrond and all about elladan, elrohir, and arwen. elwing adores her daughter-in-law and celebrian is one of the few people who she'll regularly hang out with. they visit each other and everything, elwing is there with her when celebrian meets her telerin relatives (who already all know and love elwing). suffice to say you're right, elrond is absolutely delighted to learn how close his mother and wife have become. they all spend heaps of time with each other -- with earendil, too, when he comes home. it won't take away the injustice of elwing losing so much of her son's life, and elrond losing his mother at such a young age -- but it's good. at last they're the family they couldn't be long ago, and they're all very very happy together

scattered thoughts on kirapika

this has taken me way longer than it should've tbh, i have 4 different essay drafts in my docs but none of them felt satisfactory. in the end it's probably better to make a list anyways, because there isn't really an overarching through line to any of these

putting this under a read more because it's Long. there's going to be a (much shorter, hopefully) part 2 because i hit the character limit oops

fair warning that there's going to be a lot of complaining about ciel (i don't hate her i swear i just have beef with how her character's framed in the show)

i think the most frustrating thing about their arc is the wasted potential. like they're both really great characters, there's some really great setup, and the series initially takes the angle that the conflict isn't completely black and white. and then 23 happens and rio gets kicked out of the narrative and the writers decide that actually no, ciel can't do anything wrong in her life ever because she's their precious golden child

i've said it before and i'll say it again: the coma was literally the worst decision the show could've made, because it robbed rio of basically all of his character development and it left ciel floundering around without anything to do. like genuinely when watching her episodes during the coma era i was sometimes like "...what is her arc here supposed to be again? because it really just kinda feels like she's fucking around" and it doesn't help that the writers were still on their Ciel is Morally Right in All Situations kick so any conflicts she got into were kinda boring, tbh? this usually isn't an issue for me in precure except this is a season where characters *do* fuck up (aoi, himari, yukari all had episodes where they fucked up/weren't totally in the right/did some morally gray [for precure] things in this same stretch!) so it makes ciel stick out like a sore thumb (i am still salty about 34 robbing me of an actual disagreement between ciel and yukari)

i think i mentioned it in wv 7's author's notes but episode 41 is kind of a disappointment for me. i thought the premise sounded fun (rio gets framed because of an evil clone! there's so much fun you can have with that!) but the actual execution kinda flops. we barely get any evil clone shenanigans, first of all, but my bigger issue is with the kirapika dynamic and conflict in the episode. i think it drags both of their characters down.

in 41, ciel suddenly regresses and starts being kind of an ass to her brother again, but the problem is that... she doesn't really start doing this until *after* the emotional conflict is supposedly resolved? at some point she goes "and i nearly messed it all up again" and i was like Girl. What Have You Done Up To This Point. like she's literally done *nothing*, hasn't said anything hurtful - the "worst" she's done is telling her brother that she'll go with him if he leaves, and then backtracking in private (the backtracking does feed into another issue i have, but in isolation there's nothing wrong with it! i do think it's perfectly reasonable to not want to uproot your entire life!). the actual regression comes when they're on the bridge, when ciel tells rio that they both made cure parfait

the cure parfait line is genuinely cruel. pov you are rio kuroki, you just got out of a 4 month coma 3 days ago, you got cool powers for 15 minutes but then got beat up super badly and lost them almost immediately after *and* were told you'd never be a precure (a dream that you've tried and tried to achieve but nothing ever seems to work) and then here's your sister on the bridge telling you that you both made *her* a precure and it was a super cool and awesome event when all you got out of it was that four month coma. if i was rio i would've lost my shit then and there

the line just feels so ooc for ciel to be saying at the EMOTIONAL CLIMAX??? THIS IS THE EMOTIONAL CRUX OF THE EPISODE. if it was a line that had happened early on and caused the conflict i'd be more forgiving but it *isn't* and that's why it fails! at this point she's supposed to have learned that disregarding others' feelings and thinking only about what's good for herself hurts others!

also rio once again takes the blame for everything, just like he did in 23. why is rio constantly always the bad guy in the conflict (even though the show pushed a "they both did things wrong" angle at the start) it makes their relationship feel really lopsided

their relationship just feels really lopsided overall, tbh. i think part of the problem is that we never really get any positive interactions between them in the series - we get the flashback with the waffles, and then there's that brief moment when rio comes back in 40, and ciel complimenting rio in the christmas episode but that's barely enough to go on when most of their major interactions in the present timeline are them fighting with one another. the show wants me to think that kirapika are the Best Siblings Ever but doesn't really do the work to actually *show* it, which makes it feel hollow. where are the sibling shenanigans, toei. where are the moments where they share a single brain cell. i just want kirapika sibling fluff, dammit!

part of this lopsided feeling also comes from how it feels like rio would move heaven and earth for ciel (he outright sacrifices his life. if it wasn't for luimere he'd be dead, and he had no way of knowing lumiere would intervene) but i don't get that same vibe from ciel even though the show tries acting like she would. shit happens and she's like "oh no! anyways". even a large part of her angstfest in 23 is more about her thinking that she's thrown away her chance of being a precure (it's literally one of the first things she says after julio's purified. not really a great look tbh).

lopsided 3: ciel's feelings are always seen as more valid over rio's. it's especially frustrating when rio actually does have a point (see 22-23)

honestly overall it just feels like the writers had something against rio. genuinely what the fuck did he do to them to make them toss him around like that

ciel's angstfest in 23 is really funny to me it's literally the equivalent of when you slightly mess up so you turn your discord pfp and banner all black and change your username to "gone" and claim you're never going to log on again but you're back 2 days later. i would love it if she was the one who actually broke herself out of it instead of rio and ichika having to do all the emotional labor

just... let ciel have flaws! we're shown a ciel with flaws in her introductory arc! and it's amazing! but then after 23 they all disappear and on the rare occasions where they come back they're never treated as something for her to work on, they're just there, or they're unintentional on the part of the writers. and a character without flaws obviously isn't unheard of for precure but in a season that takes great pains to remind you that its main cures are all very flawed people it feels a little jarring to have ciel never learning anything because she was in the right all along

i don't think rio becoming ciel's satellite post-coma would've annoyed me as much if we hadn't been given a taste of rio as an actual defined character during the julio arc. like once he comes back he only exists around ciel and it's a bummer because i really liked his dynamics with ichika, yukari, bibury, etc and i wanted to see more (we do get that one riobib scene in 41 but it's like 30 seconds). pretty much all of his dreams and aspirations evaporate, too, most notably The Precure One

rio's dream to become a precure never being brought up after 23 (except to be mocked by grave) is so, so jarring when it was originally a huge part of his character. 41 tries to act like he only became julio because he wasn't as good at sweets as ciel and it's like... no? wanting to become a precure was a big part of that too? sometimes i feel like 41 is an episode from some alternate universe where rio's precure dream was never part of the plot and it somehow wormed its way into ours. it'd make the cure parfait line a lot less worse if that was the case tbh

It seems like the Vengeance Saga plot is pretty controversial around fans, I’m one of the people who found 600 Strike to be kind of a weird concept. I saw one person pointing out that considering the guy who wrote it also voices Odysseus, it almost comes across like his power fantasy. Then I saw another person saying that they really hope Penelope initially rejects him, because he’s changed so much since she last saw him.

And that got me thinking…it’s very possible that Epic will end up just being another male fantasy. Where the male main character gets to be as horrific as he wants, gets to be powerful beyond belief, and gets to go home to his wife who lacks any agency, character, or complex thought because she literally just exists to be his adoring wife. I know that this would be true to Greek Mythology, but considering how many liberties the musical already takes it would be a real shame if it decides to keep the male power fantasy and misogyny aspect.

I still love the music and think the musical is really well done…but it does kind of feel like the Vengeance Saga got a little too caught up in the writer’s own desire to be the main character in a video game or anime. And with that in mind I can’t help but be a bit worried for how things will progress once Penelope is present and being written by that same guy.

If I'm being honest, I only like epic for the good music and motifs lmao. Everyone talking about accuracy and "how did he beat Poseidon" have me a bit lost because I never got into it for accuracy or anything of the sort. I didn't think twice about him beating Poseidon tbh, and 600 strike is my favorite song in the vengeance saga by a mile.

With that being said, when I think about it with a mind outside of "nice singing!!" then I can see what everyone means. Yea, how DID a regular dude beat Poseidon? You might be on to something about it being a power fantasy tbh. If being able to beat the king of the sea isn't a power fantasy, I don't really know what is tbh lmao.

In terms of Penelope rejecting him, she actually does at first in the actual story! I mean, she hasn't seen him since he was 20 years old and now he's 40. She doesn't recognize him at first and puts him through a test to make sure it's him. Idk if she'll reject him completely in the musical but she does reject him at first in the source material!

For what it's worth, I really don't think that the author intended for it to be a power fantasy. I don't think he went into it with that in mind, but that's probably unfortunately how the cookie crumbled.

💕 there are different things I really like about a lot of my fics, but honestly it's Blood Wisdom. Even though I've written 71k (!!) more of the story since Blood Wisdom and I think grown as a writer a lot since then... it's Blood Wisdom. One of the reasons that I started to write Strange Wonders was because I just thought that the ending of Dracula was lackluster. It's fine, but it starts off this Very strong psychological drama between Jonathan and Dracula and the way it ends... You might as well have car chase music playing tbh. Dracula doesn't speak past October 3rd. He's a total non-character in his own climax. It's cool that Jonathan kills him, but you're not in Jonathan's head in anyway... I wanted to end it as a psychological drama between Jonathan and Dracula and it was just really really satisfying to me to write. You know when things are just going great and you're sitting at your laptop and it's like you're in an elevated state of being and your energy is up bc you're writing it and it's like you're in your story and you start to feel the emotions you're writing for your characters? That's really what it was like for me to write Jonathan and Dracula's last verbal exchange. Like there's a line in that story where Mina says that Jonathan left the study in an agitated state and went out for a walk after he wrote his ending, and I included that because I left my living room in an agitated state and took a walk after I wrote that scene as well. I had just the best time.

And even though I would say New Woman has really given me the most valuable practice at adaptational plotting, Blood Wisdom was really the first successful time I had to sit down with a plotting problem and figure out "hey, I need these story beats from this moment. What do I need to do to get myself there?" It was a big moment of proving to myself that I could do that sort of a thing, and even though the story was only under 30k at that point in time it meant a lot to me that I had written a longer story with a beginning, middle and end.

🥳 The year was 2010, I was 10 years old and was very guilty telling fanfiction.net that I was 13 years old so that I could read James and Sarah fan fiction for PBS's American Revolution cartoon Liberty's Kids... I decided I wanted to write James and Sarah fanfiction myself and spent an afternoon writing maybe a page before I accidentally deleted everything and never started again because I was so discouraged. The next fanfic I would write and actually publish would be a BBC Sherlock fic in 2016. 🤣

I think my reasons are the same as anyone else's really. I get inspired by fiction and want to fill in the gaps. While this is not true for all of the fanfiction that I've written, I definitely tend to write my best work when I want to see something happen in a story that I don't get to see.

🦈 I've only ever written one scene with Lucy in it but I don't think she'll prove very difficult to write for. The character that I struggled with the most was probably Van Helsing. I know that Uncommon Horrors and the Resilience of the Dawn were in fact supposed to be one fic, but I switched perspective because I was like God damn I can't be in his head 24/7 anymore this is killing me. Just in terms of doing a pastiche of how Stoker has him talk. It's all right when he's just saying dialogue, but when the entire description of everything, dialogue and thought and all that has to be in that style as well... it was challenging. But I do like some of the lines that I wrote as Van Helsing. I am moderately satisfied with the end product but a lot of blood sweat and tears came before it lol.

Yandere pathologic omfg I would love to talk and write about that actually. My take on Yandere is exactly the helplessly in love an extremely devoted to that person. I write them less murder and kidnapping crazy because eh I don't really like that aspect, however the unconditional love and soul crushing devotion? Their love suffocating them with every breath they take not by your side? the paranoia and extremely jealousy? Yeah I ADORE these aspects

Maria Kaina and Andrey Stamatin feel like the most yandere-ish out of the bunch by nature tbh.

Eva has potential too! but she'll be more of a sweet guilt tripping toxic gf than a yandere. Like a puppy love crush yandere? Sickingly sweet.

Yulia and Vlad the younger are more on the chill side. The loose leash side where you think you can roam free but how come everyone around you is pulling away? They don't try to control you or be toxic to you in any way, instead it's others they intimidate into submission or trick into backing off. If there is no competition then you'll definitely run into their arms. It's them or absolute loneliness you see.

The more unstable Yanderes who need constant reassurance and are suffocatingly clingy and overprotective are Anna, Rubin and Oyun probably. Rubin will set himself on fire just to keep you warm and is the biggest drama king when it comes to seeing you get close to anyone else, he gets all mopy and extremely sad until you have no choice but to leave the person and comfort him.

Alexander Saburov and Alexander Block are both on the self-aware type. They're very aware of how wrong their feelings and extreme urges are. How you don't belong to them and they try desperately to resist the temptation but god you're just so sweet what if something bad happens to you? what if someone else whisks you away? They can't have that. They control themselves 90% of the time and are the best at keeping their real intentions hidden while they show you a calm facade.

Katerina feels the most prone to jealousy and spite.

Daniil the most passive aggressive. He tries to stick to his morality compass and have plausible deniability. Like he justifies his actions and urges by any means necessary to prove he is in the right and you're overreacting actually.

Artemy would start as self-aware but slowly give in to his heart's desire because it feels right so it must be right.

The Great season 3 review?

I loved it, first off! It was one of the best seasons of TV I've seen, full stop. And I'm gonna be real: if you hate the season simply because Peter died and give absolutely zero thought to anything else in a show this packed to the brim with talent and things... I don't know, man. I feel like there's a subset of people for whom the Point of the show sailed overhead.

I love Catherine and Peter. One of the best love stories I've seen onscreen. I love Elle and Nick together; I would watch them in anything. I even tried to watch the other movie they did together. But I think the show has always been very clear, from day one, in the fucking title even, that we were watching a journey of a woman going from girlhood to despotic "greatness". It has been, and always will be, Catherine's story first and foremost.

"It wasn't historically accurate, why is it now???" Lmao it isn't? Him dying does not make the show accurate. He died falling through ice after falling in love with Catherine, when in real life he died, most likely by her order, imprisoned by Catherine. Peter did not die because Tony McNamara suddenly decided to go with an accurate story. He died because it was time in the narrative.

All that aside, I just thought the first half gave us more of this super compelling relationship while also making it clear that there was no way for Catherine to become who she needed to be with him alive. It's not because she didn't love him; it was because she did, too much. The love was all-consuming, and if she had a choice she would've probably chosen to skip greatness and be with him. I mean, she kind of tried to--she was playing Russian roulette in a bid to "be" with him, never mind the arsenic thing. And that depiction of grief, of it never being something she'll "move past", but will simply become more used to and more able to deal with... So good.

This is the version of Catherine that she needed to be in order to have an iron rule over Russia, and I think she could not have become that version without the trauma she endured. Peter dying was what took her to another level of unhinged, of brutality. I mean, listen--is it a good thing for her? Not necessarily. But the show doesn't really pass judgment on what's good or bad, but rather what is. The fact that we ended on a Catherine who had random sex with random people just to satisfy herself, who was like "I did this, not destiny", who sent Archie to die without blinking... It's more reminiscent of the real woman, and it's who she had to be. That last dance was catharsis and a bit of madness and despair but also, I think, acceptance that she has gotten what she wanted, she is who she was always meant to be, and it hurts.

I also find it ludicrous that people think Peter should've died in a nobler way? First off, the tone of this show has never been Like That, and second, Peter is not noble. He's progressed, sure, but he was never a fully actualized, individualized person, and that's part of his tragedy. He died because he couldn't ultimately resist the pull of his insecurity and the weight of his father's expectations. He couldn't compartmentalize his trauma enough to survive, which isn't good or bad, it just is, and it's a tragedy. Catherine ultimately had to do what he couldn't in order to survive. Peter can be a man who grew, but him growing does not mean he grew *enough*.

(Also ludicrous: people acting like Peter dying betrayed the show as a romcom? He fucked and killed her mom, never mind him killing her previous lover, this was not a romcom lol.)

Elizabeth--love her journey. The place we saw her get to with Peter the Great is the place Peter wasn't able to get to. Moving on, recognizing that she could take it but ultimately didn't need to. Maybe finding love again? (Tbh tho, I shipped her more with Petrov.) Such an incredible performance from Belinda across seasons. Her line about crying until her ribs break and that being okay because she would never take another unpained breath... Jesus, that was well-written and visceral.

I love Archie because he's just a wonderful antagonist, well-acted, and a great sense of dark comic relief. Like, unlike characters I found sanctimonious and self-serving at the same time, Archie was just committed to his endgame. I'm glad he's still alive.

The Swedes!!! I've been a longtime Swede Stan, ever since season 1. I know that some critics didn't like how much time they took up, but fuck that. I love their relationship, I think the guy playing Hugo deserves an Emmy because he had some of the best line deliveries of the fucking season, I love their funhouse Peter and Catherine-style relationship. The only thing I didn't love was Agnes's subplot with Velementov, but more on that in a minute.

I enjoyed Petrov as a new addition. If the show were to continue (again, more on that later) I could see him with Elizabeth, but also probably hooking up with Catherine because... In real life, Catherine did love a man in uniform and I think Tony would take inspo from that. Not saying it would be a long term thing, but I imagine that in the future if the show went on, we'd see a Catherine with many partners. I mean, she had sex with two different people in the finale alone, slept with the American ambassador this season, etc. Her body count would for sure rise. But yeah, I liked his efficiency and love of cannonballs.

Stan Maxim forever, we love a young king who's ready to murder.

George was a huge turnaround for me. I think part of it was in seeing Marial become so vile. George's cheerful amorality mixed with, I think, real feeling for Peter, Grigor, and even Catherine was really compelling. I used to hate her, but now I love her and I hope she keeps doing what she needs to do. She deserves. I also found that her scene with Catherine, recognizing that they both loved Peter, that Catherine did take him from George--it was one of the most emotionally touching of the season, for me. George understood Catherine's grief in a way others couldn't, and I loved their odd relationship.

Grigor... Love him forever, like him for always, he's a favorite forever. I want him to want better for himself. His relationship with Paul, his intense grief for Peter, it just got me. I could absolutely see him having an affair with Catherine in the future; they were already giving me big "comforting the widow" vibes.

I loved Tatyana and Arkady. Such good comic relief, and I enjoyed them both kind of seeking recognition from Pugachev that they never received from Peter.

Speaking of Pugachev--masterclass from Nick. The fact that he had a Peter voice, a Pugachev voice, and a Pugachev pretending to be Peter voice? MY GOD. Also, the way Pugachev was like... bad, sure, but had some solid points out Peter and Catherine's callousness, especially in that fabulous last scene with Catherine.

I know Orlo's death was controversial, but Sascha wanted to leave and I figure why not make his death both ridiculous and emblematic of Catherine becoming more of like. A casually violent leader.

Disliked:

Marial. Horrible character. Like Phoebe, hate Marial. I just don't get the hypocrisy of saying she wants to be Catherine's friend FOR REALZ while also lying about the Pugachev involvement and also like... Celebrating the death of her husband? Marial doesn't have to like Peter, but being best friends with his widow and in love with his best friend............ Like, pick a lane, girl. Also, no idea why Grigor was so in love with her when she honestly didn't treat him well and seemed to fundamentally not understand him.

Velementov. Never got him. He's always seemed like, kind of pathetic and a father figure... while also making pervy comments about Catherine. I didn't see why he didn't just die this season. Make room for Petrov and Maxim, asshole. He took up so much unnecessary time.

But yeah, I think that if they end up getting renewed they have loose threads they can play with, but if not I'm totally happy. I feel like I understand where the story went. I understand what the message was. I feel like Catherine has had a total transformation, one the show has been leading towards since it began. Her dance at the end was such a triumph to, in a devastating way. Her monologue about things to say to Peter to keep him from leaving; her face when she was given the dessert and realized fully he was dead. That level of acting Elle gave was just incredible. The way I felt this woman's pain, the way I understood her evolution... It was something else.

And brushing all that aside because your ship wasn't "endgame" seems super shallow, but that's just me.

The only thing I'd love to see Tony take a stab at with Elle is his version of Potemkin because that guy was a CHARACTER lol, but I mean. The Helen Mirren mini covers that affair very well. And I'm good with this show ending where it has, if that was it.

White Album 2 Part 7 - Coda (Setsuna True End)

Time for Coda!! I'm excited to see Kazusa in the story again! As for Setsuna, she really is quite childish tbh lol, I mean it's great that she wants to stick to the promise of meeting once a week but if Haruki has a business trip, what can you do lol. I guess because she's childish, she's also easy to cheer up, but at the same time not really since she's going all the way to Europe. Even though I do think Setsuna's dad is too strict most of the time, considering how airheaded Setsuna can be, I don't blame him. But I do admire Setsuna's relentless pursuit of Haruki I guess, especially to the point that she's willing to go France just to not break their one week promise to always see each other. I honestly wanted to cry a bit seeing and hearing Kazusa. It's probably been about half a year or more since I played the Introductory Chapter so it's been a long time for me too haha, not as long as Haruki and them though. Honestly, both Setsuna's and Kazusa's sprites having big breasts is kinda weird, I feel like the proportions make them look weird, I feel like they don't look natural and as pretty as they used to lol. Anyway, I can see why Haruki can't leave Kazusa alone even if a part of it is because he wants to be with her. She nearly got frostbite! So dangerous and careless of her! I can't say I didn't enjoy Kazusa and Haruki awkwardly chatting together, but I couldn't help but think about how he's going to lie to Setsuna again. Which I'm glad he eventually confessed to because they've decided to be together and continuing to lie to her will just become worse and worse on his conscience and to Setsuna when she finds out, especially if she ever talks to Kazusa.

Honestly, I can't even blame Haruki going back to Kazusa's house and walking down memory lane because that's something I've definitely done before. As for Kazusa, of course she would go haha. It's sad to see them fight, but I'm not sure how I really want their relationship to be right now so I'm not really mad😅 Even though I really didn't like Tomo before, now that she's not annoying more, it's great that she can be a friend Setsuna can confide in about everything even if Setsuna can be frustrating lol. I don't think anyone could have rejected Kazusa hearing how vulnerable she was on the phone. I wanted to tear up just listening to how exhausted and sad she was from just having to live and deal with everything with her concert, the media and Haruki. Kazusa sleeping so peacefully at Haruki's place was really cute but I agree with her mother, Touma Youko. Haruki needs to clearly reject Kazusa for her sake because she'll never do it and she'll keep hoping. Haruki needs to do it because he has Setsuna, and he's obviously wavering too, so rejecting Kazusa will be for his own sake too. But I guess it's easy to say haha, it's difficult to completely end things with someone you really like even if you know it's pointless to continue. Back in the day, when I had someone I really liked but knew it was going nowhere, I also wanted to just stop all contact with them to give myself my sanity back, but I couldn't do it, every day I would go online and look for them and hope to see them online and talk with them. It made me happy but also unbearably sad. And to this day, whenever I think about it, it makes me happy but also extremely hurt.

Anyway, even though I feel bad for Setsuna, I can't deny how much fun I'm having watching Kazusa and Haruki bantering about the silliest things, it's just so nice to watch them. LMAO when he protected Kazusa on the train so she wouldn't have to see that terrible article or whatever it was about her and then she's like there's something poking her butt, and he's like it's my camera!😂😂😂 Kazusa with glasses is so pretty! Honestly, I was really enjoying Haruki and Kazusa interactions, so when Tomo came around to try and tell Haruki to attend Setsuna's concert, alike Kazusa, it felt like I was brought back to reality. Sadly, Haruki and Setsuna are both so stubborn to their detriments. Is Haruki really planning to never talk to Setsuna again until she goes to him? Like he probably feels guilty about Kazusa too but seriously? Can't you fight for this relationship that you cherish? And Setsuna...how long does she want to drag this on, were the last two years that that they shared together meaningless enough that it can't beat her insecurity over him meeting Kazusa once? Honestly, the only people who truly lose are those who keep running away without a fight and she will always lose if she can't take that step forward. I thought she would have had at least a bit more confidence in their relationship but I guess her inferiority towards Kazusa will always win. Haruki bringing Kazusa to see Shibata, her housekeeper back in the day was so sweet.

I can't even blame Haruki when it comes to Kazusa because I definitely can't push her away haha. I'm weak against her too. I'm so glad Kazusa told Haruki about how she was the one who took his first kiss, first everything and then Setsuna stole him away, because Kazusa deserves her chance to tell him everything considering Setsuna made it impossible for her back in the day and caused her to suffer so much. Yeah, there's no right or wrong when it comes to loving someone but they were friends and every time I think about that time, I remember how much I hated Setsuna for doing it even if I could understand why. Even though I'm doing Setsuna's True End, I honestly can't actually feel like that's the path I want to take. I'll still read it of course, but I don't think I could ever pick her as Haruki even if it hurts her. It breaks my heart to see Kazusa like this because she could never move on.

I guess my biggest problem with Setsuna and Haruki's relationship is that they don't communicate properly and they still don't. They continue to hide their feelings, their thoughts until the very last second when they're going to explode and then they're just like yay everything is solved now. The only things they go through together are taking breaks from each other, but they never actually solve their problems together. I'm not surprised Setsuna already knew Haruki was meeting Kazusa. I guess what I don't like about this meeting is that Haruki came here not really because he wanted to see Setsuna but because he wanted to run away from Kazusa and those feelings. He wants to see Setsuna but only because he wants seeing her to reaffirm his own feelings and force himself to not think about Kazusa rather than really care about Setsuna herself. It was obvious that Haruki not attending the concert wouldn't bode well, but just like him and the others, I underestimated how much it would affect Kazusa. She really truly finally broke. Honestly, it was so hard to listen to Haruki say he loves Setsuna the most because it was painful to watch Kazusa so thoroughly expose her emotions and pain, but at the same time have to listen to Haruki say that. Personally though, I really don't feel Setsuna to be the one he loves the most. Kazusa can get quite frustrating and difficult to deal with haha, but I can understand why she's like that. I can't believe Youko has leukaemia... She can't abandon Kazusa like this... I don't want her to die... I wanted her and Kazusa's relationship to continue forever. Kazusa's life is just full of suffering isn't it? Not only does she think Haruki's pitying her, but now she's found out about her mother's condition. Seeing her break down and cry made me want to cry too.

Haruki walking all around the place thinking about the women who gave him support throughout his life and wishing Mari could come back and give him advice and guidance was just saddening. I wouldn't know what to do in his situation if I loved Setsuna the most but couldn't bear to reject Kazusa. How much must we tear Kazusa down? I didn't expect for Setsuna and Kazusa to meet yet but I guess it's inevitable. How fitting for the three of them to work together again with a two week deadline. Honestly though, Kazusa's VA always gets to me. She breaks my heart every time because you can hear how much she's suffering and at her wits end. I guess one thing we can learn from Setsuna is how she never gives up even if it torments her, which can be a bad thing too lol. I was actually thinking that it would be so nice if they could include a song with the three of them in the album so I'm really happy that Kazusa overhauled the whole thing to do what she wanted haha. It really feels like the school festival again. I do feel bad for Haruki though, he's probably the one that's the most out of practice haha! It might be corny but I love the idea of the CD jacket being pure white - a white album to represent the song that connected them all, it's so fitting. The funny thing is that it means Setsuna wasted all her time designing when the perfect one was the simplest one haha. I've always loved how much the three of them love each other, so seeing Setsuna and Kazusa tell each other that they love Haruki as much as they do the other makes my heart really warm.

I had no doubt that Kazusa's concert would be a success, but I was still sad that Haruki and Setsuna couldn't be there to witness it. One thing I'm very happy about is Kazusa deciding to stay in Japan for her mother. Kazusa wanting to succeed in her mother's dream of being number one in the world is so sweet. I can totally see why her mother cried, it really was the sweetest thing Kazusa has ever said hahaha. Honestly, after everything that happened, I found it difficult for me to think Haruki could really love Setsuna more than Kazusa. Every time he said Setsuna was the most important from now on blah blah, it felt empty to me because I don't think I could ever think so. As for Setsuna, I guess it's great that she's consistent but honestly her desire for the three of them to always be together whilst being jealous of Haruki loving Kazusa tires me. I won't say she's fake because it is a genuine desire of hers but I guess that naivety and blind wish for everything to be like that whilst wanting to monopolise Haruki as her lover will always rub me the wrong way. I also don't like how she always feels like she needs to not show Haruki her ugly side and only wants him to remember the perfect part of her when what he loves about her and how he got to know her was through the imperfect parts that she showed and revealed to him in the beginning. Anyway, overall, even though I think Coda is nice, I don't think Coda is for Setsuna, the whole story seems to be meant for Haruki and Kazusa and I don't think you can convince me otherwise. So unfortunately, Setsuna's True End is quite lacking and if I had to choose, I think her ending in CC without going to France was the perfect end for me.

Okay I personally believe you made the list of fwb rules at the start with the specific intention of breaking every single one, and personally I think they'll all get broken before the girls sort their shit out so I'M going to recap your recap with hypotheses

Already broken, I think they'll both continue to break it, potentially more so Jade though since we saw Kit continue to use it in chpt 4 even when she was at the door and Jade was mostly responsible for it in chpt 5.

I think before the end there'll be a complete breakdown of all three current forms of their relationships, and so technically you could say that this won't get broken until fwb ends but I think it's obviously a large part of the friendship breakdown so it still counts.

7. No letting it get in the way of dates or seeing people (but full disclosure on if you’re sleeping with other people is a must) - the whole fake dating thing made this rule a moot point

Moot point but we have also seen Kit say she doesn't want to sleep with someone else before being like the fake dating rules say so... So it was technically already broken before that.

8. Saying “Canyon Maze” puts a no questions asked end to the entire arrangement - hasn't happened yet (maybe never will?)

I'm tempted to agree with other anons that said it'll get a cute call when someone admits they want a real relationship, but I think that's my wishful thinking. I still think it'll be kit - maybe related to the fact that she's always tried to apologise to Jade with hugs and then used sex to do so in chpt 4, and for me it feels like if she's going to run (*when*), that will be what she'll pull back on from.

9. No kissing on the lips - during ⚔️ they're still good

I think Jade is going to break this. We've seen Kit want to so badly and each time she reminds herself that she can't break Jade's trust like that, so for me it makes more sense to have Jade cave I'm the heat of the moment or some form of heartbreak?

i have a big ol' headache but i feel like talking about kaiya so :' ) i'm gonna power through for a minute to write a lil bullet point hc post!

it's very hard to have a properly " awkward " moment with kaiya bc she's so? go with the flow, i suppose! it isn't easy to fluster her with accidents like brushing hands, spilling tea on her, etc. she'll easily laugh it off, link your hands together, and generally take the interaction with a grain of salt. most people mean well, so she can't be rubbed the wrong way unintentionally, and she's much too friendly to take most interactions the wrong way.

even in a situation in which someone's being rude to her purposely, kaiya has no problem remaining polite and all smiles asdf that kind of behavior means they want a reaction, so she just won't give it to them!

but be mean to her pals?? be rude to them?? kaiya will 100% say something and it'll feel like being scolded by your mom probably

i'm thinking of reworking kaiya's background a lil bc i don't really imagine her as a farmer like i can with satsuki and hyouka. i think it's more likely her father was a smithy and/or carpenter ( the man might've been a jack of all trades tbh ) and her mother maybe worked with herbs to produce medicines and teas and whatnot for their village. it makes more sense to me.

something i keep returning to with kaiya is scars. she sort of romanticizes them, i guess? but it isn't that she finds them attractive or unattractive -- she likes them bc they represent memories, maybe even people that were helped or saved. she likes the reasons and stories behind scars, and she'll gladly show you all of hers and tell you all about how she got them!

also!! kaiya loves her own scars very much bc they're proof that she did have a life before being a demon. she had a childhood that was full of love and laughter, and she'll never forget those memories again if she can help it. if you see her lost in thought and looking at one of her scars, it's usually bc she's thinking about the memory behind it.

i said this before, but a reminder: kaiya's got a scar on her forehead, and her dad cut her bangs in an attempt to hide it. she ended up liking her bangs enough to keep them, but she doesn't feel self conscious about the scar itself one bit

honestly kaiya has so much self confidence and i love that about her :' ) which is also so unexpected bc she kinda?? thinks she's the worst if you let her think about her past for a smidge too long asdfg

typing habits: ren is definitely an all caps user but not as often as one might think! he balances it precisely for comedic timing. definitely the only all caps user of the oxenteens though. i also think his grammar varies wildly for no rhyme or reason. sometimes he capitalizes proper nouns and then the very next text he's writing shit like thx instead of thanks. usually falls in the all lowercase no punctuation category though. faster that way. alex is surprisingly difficult but i waaaanna say also all lowercase no punctuation? nona and clarissa are all lowercase but WITH punctuation. although clarissa will do proper grammar when she has something to say and a point to make. which tbh is often enough. jonas is properly capitalized but without punctuation most of the time emojis not so much for anybody! ren sometimes, on the cusp of ironic and unironic. nona unironically sometimes, shes a reactor though, her most recents are all the hearts. i just know clarissa LOVES a good ironic 🤪 though LMAO. nona knows when she breaks that guy out that someones life is about to end

room upkeep: from messiest to cleanest-- alex, ren, jonas, clarissa, nona. i say this because alex is the most likely to just leave her room messy when she has friends over. mostly because its usually just ren, and ren doesn't care. but with his own room i think ren would occasionally have a fit of 'oh god people (nona) can't see i live this way'. not that alex doesn't also have those moments, they're just less frequent. ren has seen her at her most despondent and depressed and vice versa so they just get it, y'know. jonas is a little messy but has a strong boundary, and about once a month gets everything in order. then there's a big jump to clarissa who's just tidy by nature. sometimes things slip a little when she isn't doing great, but it makes her feel better to clean (which she doesn't like and is annoyed by. she says she probably gets it from her mom) so she'll still find it in her to clean even when she's low. and finally, nona's room is very neat. but not because she's a big cleaner, in fact its the opposite. her room always has a layer of dust because she just doesn't really touch anything and when she does she remembers to put it back. boggles ren's mind

sibling traditions: i think, once, they did play amnesia spy girl. well, it more started with alex explaining how it went and they ended up having to act it out together because jonas didn't get it. they talk about how silly it was but deep down they know they both had fun. there was a lot of laughing. and genuinely i think jonas had no idea a show even got made and when alex is like hey haha we should watch this he's like no that is not my carmen are you kidding me no. they do watch it though. better than mindlessly scrolling and never deciding on something like what usually happens similarly, alex and michael were definitely in a "we watch [insert movie here] every year on this holiday even though it has nothing to do with said holiday" family and alex would introduce jonas to all of those films because she was continuing the tradition on her own before their parents got married anyway.

and finishing with clarissa! oddly specific...she gets unreasonably excited to go to a tea house? she goes to one with nona and/or like, her sister one year to celebrate something. thinks the little sandwiches are so cute and gets really into figuring out what fruit-based teas they have. surprises herself a little maybe. you are so right btw she deserves more love. she is still the character i am most attached to for now and always <3
