What do you think about the fab five polycule
(Dick x donna x wally x garth x roy)
i'll be SO honest i wish i had like. insightful interesting opinions on them but i've always been a Young Justice kid and sort of. breezed past consuming Fab Five Teen Titans content-
but of what i *do* know, from the few comics i've read with these characters is this is one of the best ships for Dick, honestly. it always deeply annoys me when fanon content breezes past the Titans as if they're just some distant teammates and not some of Dick's closest friends, if not a second family. *especially* the Fab Five. for most, if not all of them, it's the first time getting to actually connect with other teen heroes. so there's something fun about how sort of terrible they are at it, at first. they all care about each other a lot. but they're kind of chucked into the deep figuring out how to work with each other and get along with *very* different personalities, so it's fun to see where the conflict comes.
as a ship, i do really love it. the Titans are a family. like we call a lot of teams found families, but for the Fab Five, that shit is the truest. they depend on each other and trust each other. when Dick and Bruce are on outs and Bruce fires him, he goes to the Titans.
i also enjoy how, to an extent, all of them are outsiders of some kind. Donna is alone in a new world she's never experienced, the same as Garth. Roy is still new and awkward to living the rich life with Oliver. Wally doesn't connect to his parents well. and of course, Dick has lost his parents and only has Bruce, who isn't the most emotionally available. of course they're going to cling to each other, as the first people they can really develop connections too. they're very clingy with each other and i think that's both cute and *fun* to explore like, codependency issues with them. how protective they can be of each other, how they default to trusting each other over their mentors, etc. it's all very interesting for a polycule, especially since for most of them, it's their first real relationship. i'm a big fan of "none of us know what dating looks like bc we've had such strange childhoods so we don't understand the Rules very well. we're all just going to date each other bc why would i date only one of you. do teamups count as dates now." vibes with teenage polycules. and the Fab Five just. have that on lock. they each fulfill a different "niche" in the group. Garth is the softer, more emotional one you can go to if you're upset. Donna is the one for planning bright fun trips and making sure you don't wallow. Roy is protective and can pretend to be suave, but he shows affection through gift giving and grand gestures where words fail him. Wally can cheer any of them up with jokes and distractions. and of course Dick is the logical one who makes sure they all keep their heads on and don't drown in the responsibility.
overall i think it's a really cute ship and i do wish i just. knew more about them to be able to write them/read fic of it because i do love their dynamic. and i'm just a firm believer in the Titans being Dick's family, just as important to him as the Batfam. they're a disaster and for that you gotta love them.
#necrotic answerings#fab five#ty for asking!!#i love getting asks liek this even if on things i don't know a ton about#i think the only real comics i've read of the fab five are world's finest: teen titans and teen titans: year one#and some of the silver age stuff but only ever for the plot not for those characters specifically#so like. i know enough to vaguely understand the characters#but i did have to approach it from the perspective of dick bc obviously i know him the best#i am interested in reading more about garth. he's a little cutie. i love him.#he seems very easy to whump. you could do a lot of dead dove things to that boy.#also this is darker in concept#but i find the way bruce dislikes the titans and dick working with them pretty fascinating#bc the reasonable answer is it's the first time dick is operating outside of bruce and it just gives bruce anxiety#but the *fun* answer is: brudick vs fab five polycule#where bruce is hyper possessive of dick developing other potentially romantic bonds#or just bonds in general#so he tries to come in between it#if i ever wrote a fab five polycule fic#that's the route i would take personally. very dark controlling brudick with the titans slowly taking notice and growing more concerned#otherwise tho i leave this ship to be written by ppl who understand them more#bc i know next to nothing about a lot of them#dick and roy i understand#garth i'm interested in#couldn't tell you much about wally or donna tho#and i prefer wally as flash when i do read him. bc he's a disaster man.#i really haven't read much titans content in general i fear#i've read some new teen titans for like. slade content and whatnot#and some of the 2003 run but besides that. i was always on the yj side of the fence#that said i will say *as* a core four truther#the fab five are *always* going to be closer as a team than the core four.

watching black sails now. sorry for being immediately insanely annoying but the opening title card is interesting, saying that all “civilised states” declared war on pirates. which is technically true! but only because Britain and other imperial powers entered into formal agreements with private companies to protect them from piracy, which before that point piracy benefited those empires because pirates would plunder ships and bring the goods back to Britain and Europe. “pirate” became a constructed class of criminal as a result of states nationalising (and therefore monopolising) violence as a state tool of regulating commerce

this is so funny to me actually bcuz this is 100% how i talk abt my characters ages. i know what YEAR they were born and i know what rheir ages are supposed to be at the start of the story but i dont actually know when it takes place?? im really bad at math. There was a moment where rainbow was supposed to be 23 and i somehow accidentally made her 17 lmfao
#theoretically it would take place in 2021 bcuz thats when i created my object ocs but the more time passes#the weirder it feels to have it take place years in the past#i considered moving up their birthdays by a few years but like. idk i like their birthdays theyre cute :3#bubblegum is SUPPOSED TO BE 15 and she was born july 2007#watermelon is supposed to be 7 and he was born june 2014#etc etc#starr is 27 and she was born september uhhh 1995 or 1997 i actually dont remember. whichever one makes sense#also that would mean building block was born in 2020 and since she's always gonna be a baby the furhter away we get#it means that she wouldnt have even been born when the story is actually supposed to take place. Like#i know their birthdays and their ages and what year they were born everybody else has to do the math#to figure out wtf is going on because I DONT KNOW#also that means that building block would be a pandemic baby lmao 😭#what was rhe vibe in nigeria in august 2020 during the pandemic. well i say that like it even happened in their universe#which there really isnt any reason for that to be true#it isnt historically important to mention like..... world war two or slavery or whatever. fucking obviously. in the context of objects#it gets messy so its better to just Not#also the months the characters were born really fuck me up bcuz jayden was born in late december#so for most of the first year that they met he would be.... younger than he actually is being born in 2003#but since building's block birthday and exact age is the most important timeline-wise#and she was born august 14th 2020 and she's seven months old when they first meet#then it canonically would take place in march 2021 which was my original intention#bcuz that is the actual date that i first created my object ocs#ANYWAY. boring character age ramblings#but its hard to keep track of so i dont even blame the author!!!! birthdays are weird and hard to keep up w/#when you dont know exactly when your story is supposed to take place#assuming its in a normal-ish world im sure fantasy ocs dont have this problem#txt#object ocs

I just remember watching the 2009 strawberry shortcake years ago, lol. What about the 2003 one do you like out of the other adaptations? (I've never seen it)
OH MY GOD!!! OKAY OKAY!!!
★ For starters, my girl Apricot makes her appearance in this style for the first time and she's so pretty <3333 (along with her original character design <3). Not only that, but the way they introduced her is still my favorite introductions of all time <33 While she's sadly a really minor character, she'll forever be my favorite girl <333
★ On a more serious note, I love the designs and the overall style <333 While every adaptations style is cute in their own ways, I absolutely love how everything looks <33 Simple in many ways but all the colors and settings and everything are so pretty to just look at <333 Same goes with the characters designs like Angel Cake and Huck <3333
★ AND SPEAKING ABOUT HUCK, THIS IS MY FAVORITE ADAPTATION OF HIM. EVERYTHING FROM HIS PERSONALITY AND STYLE <333
★ SAME GOES WITH MY FAVORITE ADAPTATION OF BLUEBERRY MUFFIN. I LOVE HER SO MUCH I ABSOLUTELY LOVE HER <333
★ The voice acting is one of my favorite things like whoever voiced Ginger Snap is the best <333
- Along with the voice acting, there's an episode where Apple Dumplin' (Strawberry's younger sister) dreams about being older and I love how they changed her voice. As in, Apple would talk like a younger kid, obviously, such as saying few words. But in her dream of growing up, they had her voice sound like, well, a grown person. More constructed sentences and stuff ^^ And I just love that detail even if it's nothing but I absolutely love it so much!!!! <3
- And!!! Everyone's voice patterns are so cute <333 (I.e Blueberry Muffin saying "absolutely" but stretching the "u")
★ I feel like this is my favorite version of showing a girl-boy friendship. I haven't seen how the 2009 version shows it or how the original "Strawberry Shortcake" shows it but the 2003 adaptation shows it so well in my opinion <333
★ The intro is so catchy <3 Not important but had to include that fact <3
★ Absolutely love Custard's ability to speak and she's so sassy <33
★ THE SONGS. MAN. THE SONGS.
★ And to cut it short because I could dive deep into their personality, I love everything about it so much <3333

As a result of being convinced that his timeline just didn't work, I have done extensive research into Owen Harper's pre-Torchwood life and the pre-2005 medical training system in the UK and extrapolated where needed, and I present to you...a summary of the Owen Harper timeline (in as much sense as it can possibly make).
14th February 1980: Born
Autumn 1996 (16 years later): Started undergraduate medical degree, aged 16 (I do not believe that he could've had the necessary qualifications to do this at this age, so I'm still unconvinced, but this is the only way the whole timeline works)
2001 (5 years later): Aged 21. Completes undergraduate medical degree (Greeks Bearing Gifts). Breaks up with girlfriend Megan in London. Moves to Cardiff (Another Life). Starts postgraduate MD course (extrapolated information - we know Owen did an MD (Reset) and had a clinical junior doctor role and for the timeline to work this needs to have been simultaneous) and House Officer clinical role at Cardiff Royal Infirmary (Slow Decay)
2002 (1 year later): Aged 22. Progresses from House Officer to SHO clinical role. Still working on MD
2003 (1 year later): Aged 23. Completes MD (7 years medical training total, Slow Decay). Later joins Torchwood
2007 (4 years later): Aged 27 (Dead Man Walking). Dies (twice)

85% sure that strangelove and the boss was inspired by meryl streep and emma thompson kissing in angels in america , like i'm almost certain, funniest being that, it's mery streep (in red) who gave the most tongue like what the fuck

In my opinion, the butt jokes are incredibly incredibly tired.
So here are several fun facts about Dick that you can use for comedic effects/running jokes instead:
His hatred of Capes. Listen we are talking about Dick wore a yellow cape for 9 to 10 years in universe Grayson. The moment he changed his costume, he straight refused to ever wear a cape again, the only time he had to wear one, it was as Batman and it was very very frustrating for him.
You know that when he watched the Incredibles with Lian and Roy or Damian and Edna Mode came on screen with her hatred of capes, this was his reaction:
Tumblr media
Someone else finally understand him. She instantly became his favorite character.
His tendency to put unknown substances/evidence in his mouth and being able to identify it by taste and his knowledge of what Heroin taste like (yep still not over it).
It's both impressive (the fact that he can actually identify something by taste alone is impressive) and gross and even his closest friends don't understand why he is the way that he is, Do we think it's the Bat training or do we think it's just Dick (tm)... I feel like it has to be just Dick, right ? considering everything in Gotham is a toxin of some kind ? How many heart attack do we think he gave both Bruce and the Titans with that ?
Dick Grayson namer of superhero things: Listen, I just learned that Dick named the Arrowcave and now I just kinda love the idea of a running joke that every time a classic superhero in contact with Robin has a goofy name for something superhero related, it probably comes from the 9 year old superhero who thought it sounded cool.
The Titans are never letting that go and Dick doesn't want to talk about it (but he secretly still really like the names, they were cool when he was 9 and pretty practical when you think about it, thank you very much).
Everyone has a crush on him (tm): Honestly it is pretty funny that everyone and theirs entire family have a crush on Nightwing (and also pretty consistent canon since Raven in ntt). The reaction of the batfam is annoyed because that's gross, it's Dick, theirs brother/son, and the Titans are amused (Donna, Vic, Garth and maybe Wally) or maybe sorta part of the people who have had a crush on him (Kory obviously , Roy, Raven).
You do need to be careful with that, but I think if you do the opposite of what DC is usually doing, you'll be fine.
Also you can also includes the disastrous first date with supergirl in that. She also had a crush on him and they date was so horrible that he considered changing superhero identity because it was so embarrassing (truly one of the greatest plot-point on Superman/batman world finest honestly and this series is genuinely my favorite modern/current series)..
His petty side when he doesn't like someone: Listen, Dick has a petty side, ask Helena circa Outsiders (2003), Talia (always), Jason circa the late 2000s (Morrison era) and Azrael (also always). When he doesn't like people but has to work with them, he is going to be a little shit because they have to know he doesn't like them. it's important. and the comedic potential of Nightwing, one of the most competent, known and admired hero of the community being so petty is excellent. 10 out of 10, I need him to work with someone he hates again just for the fun of it.
The last one is just an headcanon and do not have basis in canon as far as I know:
Sometimes, as an adult, Nightwing says Holy shit in front of a classic superhero and that superhero does a double take because they are so used to him saying Holy goly batman (and that include Batman).

Since “wildly vehement disagreements” are on my mind, here is the most brutal forum fight I ever witnessed, and I will try to present it with as little judgment as possible:
It was Fametracker, maybe 2003 or so. A discussion came up somehow: what do you do with your trash after seeing a movie in the theater? You know, popcorn buckets, candy boxes, soda cups, used napkins?
Two sides emerged, and each side felt that they were obviously, unquestionably, self-evidently right:
1) You leave your trash in your seat because they pay employees to pick it up for you
2) You throw away your own trash because you are capable of doing so (if you are)
That was it. I have NEVER seen such vitriol. The entire userbase got involved and people probably got banned over it. There seemed to be some kind of regional breakdown; whichever side you argued for, it was something that EVERYONE around you did, you had grown up in the obvious rightness of doing it, and it was OFFENSIVE to suggest doing otherwise. I am sure you are staring at this going, “You… you obviously [XYZ]?” However certain you feel about that, there were people on that forum (and maybe even here!) who were exactly as certain of the opposite.

I read a physical copy of monstrous regiment soon after listening to the audiobook, and I noticed two tiny discrepancies between the two editions that make an absolute world of difference. when I found out that these discrepancies existed (you’ll find reddit posts backing me up about them), I felt cheated that my first experience of the book had portrayed a less cohesive arc than pratchett intended
if you’re looking to buy or read monstrous regiment, I strongly recommend the doubleday 2003 version or the corgi 2004 version, which iirc contain the original text. The harper collins publications and audiobook both contain these changes, which imo are confusing and severely undercut the themes the book is trying to get across. if anyone knows the status of other editions of the book pls feel free to add on
obviously the audiobooks and ebooks are more accessible than physical books to some people, so if you read one of those just know that the original text is different in some key ways. I still recommend you read the book because it’s crazy good :)
the changes I noticed, beneath the cut to avoid some serious spoilers:
firstly, the last line of Jackrum’s last scene. in the Doubleday version, this line reads:
“Jackrum had turned her chair to the fire, and had settled back. Around him, the kitchen worked.”
in the harpercollins version, the line reads:
“Jackrum had turned her chair the the fire, and had settled back. Around her, the kitchen worked.”
this pronoun change is actually has huge implications. in the scene in question, jackrum, a transgender man, reveals that he joined the army in disguise. he is referred to as “she” throughout his background reveal. however, he then considers where his future will take him, and in the final line of the scene his pronoun reverts back to “he.” jackrum’s pronoun goes from he->she->he, encapsulating the gendery arc of the scene. however, in the altered he->she->she version of the scene, half of that circle is erased. the neat tie-up of jackrum’s journey is left confusingly unresolved, and the importance of his gender to the book’s overarching themes goes underemphasized
the second change I noticed is how maladict appears in the book’s ending:
in the Doubleday version, maladict appears “in full uniform.”
in the harpercollins version, maladict appears “in full female uniform.”
maladict is the last soldier to reveal [their] true gender, keeping up a masc/ambiguous presentation far after all the rest of the squad has come forward as women. “in full uniform” maintains this ambiguity, allowing the reader to decide for themself whether maladict comes forward and presents as fully female or continues to dress masculinely despite the fact that circumstances no longer require it (in fact I believe that the latter is more likely, as maladict says thought I’d try again,” which could mean dressing in male uniform again). “in full female uniform” removes that ambiguity, and brings maladict’s arc to a somewhat unsatisfying conclusion. it eliminates the possibility of maladict as transgender or gender-non-conforming, and I’m left wondering, “if maladict presents as female so readily, why make such a fuss of it before now?”
both changes undermine the book’s message by eliminating its space for non-cisnormative identity… which is kinda crucial to the whole idea. im honestly really disappointed that these changes were made in any version of the book, because whoever made them clearly didn’t get the point

Poly141! | Mission Pixie Dust
Okay so... I was making up scenarios in my head as I was falling asleep last night and I made myself cry ... so I obviously had to share...
Poly141; the four men are your husbands and all deployed at the same time, leaving you home with your three kids at the beginning of the school holidays.
This turned out longer than I thought it would but I just had to write it out. I love Poly141 AND them being dads :')
Da = Johnny
Papa = John P.
Dad= Simon
Daddy = Kyle
School holidays had just started, and your three pups were buzzing as soon as they came home. Bags were thrown on the floor, school shoes unlaced and scattered around the shoe stand. They knew the rules, but first day of school holidays meant they were allowed to get a little wild.
Your oldest, Paesha, had just turned eight and her father was obvious. Thick curls, dark skin and warm brown eyes made it plain to see. But all your husbands loved her the same. In fact, she had a special bond with her Da (Johnny).
Malachai, your second, could have been any of the three other men's. Light brown hair, fair complection, and utterly/overly protective of his sisters. He had been born a year after Pae.
And your youngest, Felicity (known as Flick), had started her first year in big school. She was known for having exceptional blue eyes.
None of your husbands wanted a DNA test, they thought it useless because everyone treats the children with the same love, compassion and warmth.
Throwing your keys on the counter (Paesha picked them up and placed them on the hook). You rubbed the bridge of your nose and tried to quell the longing in your soul. You didn't know if it was worse when the kids were gone or with you. Being completely alone let the terrible thoughts attack but you didn't want your kids to miss out on having their fathers'.
Calming the oncoming tears, you turned around and asked, "who wants pizza for dinner?"
"YES!" Yelled Mal, a fist punched in the air. Paesha nodded her head enthusiastically while Flick did a little happy dance.
Paesha halted and squinted at you, "Not homemade right?"
After dinner arrived, the four of you sat on the large dark green couch. Your two ex-military dogs, Moth and Teddy, sat on either end of the lounge.
Turning onto the streaming service, you found the exact movie you were looking for. The 2003 version of Peter Pan.
With the lights off (except for the kitchen, the kids were still scared of too much darkness), you watched as one of your cats jumped into Pae's lap. Barnaby started purring instantly. His fluffy white tail settled around his body.
The seven of you settled in. Your four human babies snuggled up to their mama, smiles already on their faces.
When the movie had finished, your kids still wouldn't go to bed.
"Oh wait, I know why it isn't working - we don't have the pixie dust!" Flick pulled on your sleeve with a huge gap-toothed smile.
You had been watching as they jumped around the room. Lights flicked on, bodies flinging from one couch to another.
"I know! But ... we don't have any in the house..." You grumbled.
Paesha was staring dreamily at Peter Pan, a cheek resting against her face. "Where do we get some?" Her head turned slightly to look at you, her eyes nearly heart-shaped.
"Ugh-" god trying to keep childlike wonder alive was bloody difficult. Like a sign from the Universe, your phone started to ring.
All three kids ran over to it, knowing exactly who was calling at this time of night. Swiping the screen, four familiar faces popped up.
"Da! Papa! Dad! Daddy!" Smiling through the screen, the men had been just as eager to see their kids as their kids were to see them.
"Hello little munchkins, ya been good for mum?" Simon greeted first. His mask was off and no black could be found around his eyes. He never showed that side to the children.
"We're going to fly!" Flick chirped, her arms outstretched and running around.
"You're - what?" Price said with a slightly panicked face.
"But we need pixie dust," Malachai explained. Shaking his head like this was obvious information.
"I introduced them to the ... live action Peter Pan," you explained and a smile of regret grew on your tired face.
"Oh honey," Kyle replied, understanding the situation. He was the first of the men to.
"But we don't have any and we have to go buy more!" Pae said while leaning against you.
"Eh, pixie dust ...?" you heard Johnny mumble in the background.
"Oh! I have an idea!" You said with a faked expression, "why don't the Dada's get us the pixie dust!"
The chorus of cheers was heard throughout the house. Alerting the the tired Moth and Teddy.
Kyle shook his head. And Price's nose flared. Mum: 1 - Dads: 0.
"We'll bring back the goddamns finest," Simon said. You couldn't help but let out a small laugh.
"See! You heard Dad! Now get your butts' upstairs and in bed."
"Yes ma'am!" They said in unison (a nickname they'd heard their father's use one too many times.)
Once the kids were upstairs, your face dropped.
"I miss you guys," you whispered into the phone. The tears welling and spilling down your cheeks.
"We miss you too," John said, his words strangled with his feelings.
It was always hard to hang up.
It hurt.
But tonight's farewell felt like the hardest. You could just imagine how the scenario would've played out if their father's were there with them. With you.
'Can't always get what we want,' you thought bitterly.
"Not long now," Kyle said. You stared at his eyes and then his lips. God how much you wanted to kiss him.
"You better make sure you bring back some fucking pixie dust or there'll be a riot."
"Aye, Laswell definitely knows someone-" Johnny replied, giving you a wink. "Miss you gorgeous." He always tried to uplift the mood. And it nearly always worked.
You fought out of your misery, knowing the four soldiers couldn't bear to see you upset. And as they said their goodbyes, you said so in return.
"We love you, our precious wife. We'll all be together soon."

I’ve got too many headcanons about TMNT multiverse interactions so I am probably going to start doing more text based posts to ramble about these lol.
Headcanon #1 - every version of Leo secretly (or not so secretly) thinks that 2003 Leo is really cool, actually.
In particular, mutant mayhem/tottmnt Leo admires him because - come on, he’s so cool! He has a mysterious, strong and silent tone that is just like all superheroes he reads about in comics, and is insanely good at fighting. He made his own katanas out of a forge! How cool can you get?
This ultimately leads to, whenever they do manage to finally meet face to face, MM Leo following 2003 Leo around like a duckling and just admiring everything about him. Proper nerdy, young fanboy behaviour. 2003 Leo is slightly confused but secretly happy, choosing to then tutor MM Leo in particular which he obviously is over the moon about.
(I have so many hcs about the mm boys getting adopted by almost every version of themselves it’s insane)
You know what? I’m making a bit of art on this

You can find the most amazing stuff at garage sales. My friend Medium-Sized Mike is the best at it. He can walk right into an inadequate, suburbanite garage sale, one of those real limp ones with a table full of mismatched pots and pans and nothing else, and walk away with an amazing find. Nobody really knows how he does it, but that's not the subject of this story, anyway.
I waited in the driveway, watching the air slowly leak out of the tires of a rusty 2003 Ford Explorer Sport-Trac, while Medium-Sized Mike took care of business. What happened this time is: he found the Orb of Planar Suffering. We had to look this shit up on Wikipedia, too, so don't feel bad.
"You want five dollars for this magical artifact of untold destruction?"
"Yeah. My wife found it in the basement, we've had it on the dining room table for years, but now she has a new pine cone display she wants there instead. Harvest season."
"I'll give you three."
Now, the first thing everyone asks is: what do you do with a two-million-year-old cosmic weapon, abandoned on this earth by a dead strain of Pioneers? Obviously, it has some decorative value, but the real value comes from using it to split the planes of reality and walk across dimensions. Why would you do that? Because those dimensions also have garage sales, and Medium-Sized Mike has more discoveries to make.
As I saw his corporeal form shimmer and disappear at the end of the driveway, I knew two things. One, there went the bravest man I'll ever know. Two, he better bring me back a corn dog making machine.
