#(like diego tried with him in s1... he tried to tell luther he was allowed to be hurt by dad and back then luther didnt believe it.

Here’s how my season 4 went
It was set a year or two after s3 (they still have powers because fuck that shit)
Luther’s still a stripper, he’s dedicated his every spare moment to looking for Sloan, got a massive child drawn looking investigation board about her right next to 5’s mess of cult board
Diego works as a chef because top notch cutting skills, he and Lila have a baby she looks after at home, they love eachother but they can hardly scrape by, she wants to take on a couple hit man jobs but they agree no killing, that they’d make a normal life for their kid so she wouldn’t grow up like them…
Alison got her s1 perfect life back, she’s trying to suppress everything that happened but it’s slowly leaking into her career, making her seem a deva and a mess (ur traumatised babe go to therapy)
Klaus went off to find him in this universe (assuming everyone else would do the same but he was the only one who thought of it) he finds his Irish self who’s also immortal (he moved to Vegas in his early 20’s has a kid and is definitely not called Nathan) it’s assumed Klaus and Irish klaus have been hanging out and working on trauma and their powers for the last year
5 has tried going under cover in every cult he finds, tried finding mysterious and investigating but honestly there’s not much going on, Ben keeps bullying him about it but he’s TRYING OK! You wouldn’t understand this is serious work! The fbi won’t have him because he’s a kid apparently!
Ben has been stuck living with Luther and 5 (every time he tries to leave Luther drags him back and 5 kept getting reported to child services when he tried living on his own) he keeps getting in bar fights but has slowly become more attached to his definitely not brothers
Viktor still has his bar and failed dates with everyone in town because lol
——
Rough outline
Irish klaus gets kidnapped by people who think he’s American klaus, leading to a very confused family and Ben telling him there’s no point trying to leave the fam he’s tried with no avail (leading to a very annoyed Ben when he is allowed to go back to his wife and kid)
Klaus has healed a lot, turns out running from himself all these years didn’t help and he needed to actually sit down and have a conversation with himself instead, he’s got dope powers and there’s gotta be a fight in a grave yard (he also gets a ghost bf enemies to lovers because I think them arguing and making out in public would be funny)
Turns out 5’s cult is the big mean guys and he is THRILLED, Ben will never hear the end of this, the cult wants the fam to end the world again because of weird cult reasons
Idk the middle
At the end the fbi is impressed with 5 and even after lying about being 19 they won’t have him till he’s older, Alison ‘convinces’ the agent to take on 5, Diego and Lila
Viktor opens a new bar right where everyone lives, Luther works behind the bar (badly) Diego decides to be a chef there instead of the fbi but Lila and 5 love their jobs, klaus is happy with his ghost bf and bumming on bens sofa, Ben decided to stay after a heartfelt leaving scene sometime in the show, Alison is trying writing, the big screen isn’t for her anymore but she has some interesting stories on other timelines and assassinations to tell, Luther still hasn’t found his love again, but because the fam were on the news British Luther shows up?! At the bar and they really hit it off!??

the most important thing about luther’s apology to vanya isn’t him taking responsibility for his actions or accepting that he did something wrong  (  though that’s very important too,  given that he did not understand what he was doing was so wrong at the time and recognizing that now is vital.  )  the most important part is the way he validates her anger.
his apology to her is not about him.  he’s spent the last year feeling both guilt over how he handled things / what he did to her / how he feels he failed her and the rest of his siblings when his job has always been to protect him  --- and feeling scared of what she’s capable of  (  which i think is fair because to not be scared after the limited knowledge and what he saw would be invalidating to her powers.  )  he’s scared of himself + he’s scared of what she’s capable of,  but once he sees her,  and once he realizes she’s been here too + she’s got a family she’s with + she seems genuinely happy,  he wonders if she’s doing better and if she’s better off out on her own than with her family  --- especially him.
because after everything,  their entire childhood + what transpired during season 1,  he knows she has every right to be angry at all of them.  but he carries a lot of it on his own shoulders because of what he did to her right before the academy was destroyed.  in an effort to try to protect his family + her,  he only hurt her more.  that was not his intention.  that was a failed attempt at being the leader and a quick realization that that was not his place anymore.  but allison nearly bled to death + he saw a man brutally murdered by her  ----  he had every right to be scared of her.  he knows that.  but after a year of thinking about this over and over again,  he knows he should have taken a different approach in trying to help her and understand her  ---  because he didn’t take that time with her before locking her up.  he should have and he knows that.  he takes responsibility for that.   he has no reason to blame her for not wanting to be around her family,  if that’s the case  ---  because so much has become clear to him since then.
luther didn’t read vanya’s book with the same perspective as everyone else.  everyone else knew that their father hurt them all.  luther didn’t recognize that until after reginald died.  a lot of vanya’s book was very confusing to him because of it;  a lot of the abuse they faced was pointed out in the book,  and he didn’t feel like she had a place in saying any of it because he didn’t think she understood.  but vanya understood better than luther did  (  keeping luther so close to him that reginald was able to twist luther’s perception of him was the height of luther’s abuse. )  he was less resentful in the way his siblings were towards her and just a little more lost by her book.  i mentioned this before but the similarities in vanya and luther really come down to the fact that vanya was on the outside of everything and luther was too close to it all;  both of their perceptions are skewed because of that but it makes their perspectives both very interesting.  it’s why it takes him longer to understand that what he did to her in his attempt to help was wrong  ----  because hes still trying to process,  for the first time in his life,  that their father was a bad man and that he treated his kids horribly  (  ‘ i was naive enough to believe dads don’t lie to their kids.‘  /  i cant believe how much time i just wasted believing dad.  ‘  )
coming to terms with the fact that he hurt vanya and failed her + his family in the process is part of him recognizing the way he was abused,  too.  the more he realizes reginald has hurt him and the others,  the more he realizes just how bad it was for vanya and how valid her anger is  ---  not just at their father,  but to all of them.   so it takes him until his first year in the ‘60s to start understanding her book more and more and how that anger that came through the pages was so valid.  all these pieces came together for him and he saw vanya in a new light.  all the siblings  (  maybe just excluding five  )  played a part in excluding vanya while growing up;  it was engrained into their minds to do so.  but he didn’t want it to be that way anymore.  he believes he deserves her anger,  but he also hopes that he can still be a brother  ---  so there’s a line to balance on between her valid anger + how rightfully destructive her anger can be + how he wants to be there for her,  this time in a better way that he was before.
but luther knows that her anger is far more valid than his desire to be a family again.  he puts that first.
he didn’t bring a gun there with intent to hurt her  (  he’s spent the last year feeling awful for hurting her before,  purposefully letting himself get beaten + exploited because he wanted to be punished for what he’s done.  he has no reason to want to hurt her again.  )   he brought a gun because he knew how powerful she is and how destructive she can be and how valid her anger is.  i’m not saying it was the right way to handle it but i do think it’s fair for him to be scared of her and it makes it clear that he recognizes why she should be mad at him anyway.  he always wanted the chance to apologize to her,  that was the most important thing  ---  but he was immediately blindsided when she didn’t know who he was.
but he recognizes the way he (especially) + the others have hurt her.  he is recognizing that she is hurt and that she is allowed to be hurt and she i allowed to be mad at them,  whereas season 1 luther felt like the rest of their family  was her victim,  not fully aware of the other side of the story.  but now that he is aware,  and now that he is starting to understand,  he sees that she has every right to feel hurt and be angry,  and she’s allowed to deal with it in her own way.  no one ever let luther deal with his pain in his own way;  he’s constantly belittled for it  ---  he doesn’t want her to go through that too.  so she needs to hear that it’s okay for her to deal however she needs to.  that validation is something she needed in season 1 and luther could not give it to her then,  but he’s trying so desperately to give it to her now.  he wants to help her right now;  if the only way he can do that is to leave her alone,  that’s fair + it’s her choice that he’s going to respect.  assuming that she’s lying and purposefully trying to hide out rather than actually not remembering any of it is just his way of trying to respect her boundaries.
he wants her back.  he wants her to be part of the family.  at this point,  she’s only the second family member he’s seen  ---  after a year of wondering if she’s dead or if she’s okay.  he desperately wants his family back and to atone for hi mistakes with all of them,  especially her,  but more important than atoning for himself is protecting + validating her.  that comes first.  but he understands that she may not be ready to see them or want to be part of that family anymore and that’s her choice,  he’s going to respect her for that.  because if hiding away + trying to move on with her life is the healthiest option for her,  rather than coming back to their family,  she’s allowed to do that.  he’s not going to force the family together like he tried to do before;  he didn’t always recognize that when his siblings left,  they were abandoning the academy / reginald,  not him.  he thought it was about himself.  but now he understands that it was about them and them having their own lives and being who they are  ---  just as this is for vanya  (  he assumes,  given that he doesn’t know if she’s lying about losing her memories at this point.  )  if this makes her happier than she feels she can be with the family,  then that’s the best thing for her.  he didn’t get that chance when reginald took away his options;  so luther won’t take away vanya’s.
if the best thing for vanya is to be away from them,  despite him wanting to make up for their lost time as siblings,  then he’ll respect it.  but when she does decide to come back to the family,  he makes a conscious effort to ensure she’s always included.  he becomes her advocate.  it’s such a little moment but before they meet their father,  she suggests they use the shell to talk,  and when diego doesn’t have the shell,  luther calls him out for it  ---  not to be funny,  but because it was vanya’s suggestion and he wants her to be heard.  in season 1,  there’s a lot of instances when there are family meetings that don’t include everyone or don’t pull everyone’s feelings into account,  but it’s different now,  and they’re all making sure of it.   he’s just really showing her that she is part of this family and that she is being heard and is important in their decisions and i think that’s extremely important  --  because he’s recognizing why she was in pain before and why her pain is valid,  so he’s trying to give this a fresh start and do better than he did before.  it doesn’t mean he’s always doing it perfectly,  but he’s actively working on himself and trying to do right by all of them  ---  especially vanya,  because she has every right to hate him,  and if she did,  he would understand.
so luther’s apology was not about himself;  it was not about trying to ‘ make himself feel better. ‘   it was entirely about her.  it was about putting her before himself.  it was about validating her pain and her anger in a way that she needed last time he saw her,  in a way he didn’t give her then.  it was all about respecting her and trying to make sure she was okay.
but beyond validating her anger and her pain,  he is actively taking responsibility for what happened.  he tells her that she was not alone in causing the apocalypse  ---  yes,  she was the bomb,  but there was a series of fuses and canon mentions multiple times that harold is the fuse,  but luther will always believe he was.  that’s why he mentions himself first before saying they were all a part of it;  that’s why he explicitly states “i destroyed the world by overestimating my own importance,”  because he’s recognizing just how valid she was in her response to what he did to her.  she destroyed the world,  but would she have if he didn’t lead her to it?
that’s how he sees her now.  he is scared of what she’s capable of because he is impressed by her powers  (  he told her that  )  but more than that,  beyond her powers,  he is actively trying to validate her all season and understand her pain and that really emphasizes the way luther is starting to get a fuller picture of the way they were all abused.  he has always been a protector,  but he’s realizing now that the way he’s gone about it hasn’t always been the best for people,  and that’s why we see him take a step back + try to put himself as an equal to the others rather than their number one.
of course we don’t get vanya’s genuine reaction to his apology,  since she doesn’t remember what happened between them and doesn’t have a way of truly understanding his apology / accepting it,  and that’s the worst part,  because she deserves to be fully conscious of what he’s saying to her and how she feels about it,  but the way he insists on validating her pain + the way she chooses to cope is the most important thing about this,  for me personally,  and the most important thing for luther to communicate to her.  he leaves there after his apology not certain if he believes that she doesn’t remember or not  ---  because he knows how valid it is for her to want to stay away from him / the rest of them,  and he knows how valid it is for her to want this life,  where she looks happy,  instead  ---  so he doesn’t insist on pushing because he wants her to have what’s best for her,  not what he wants  (  which is his sister back + a chance to treat her better.  )  he puts her before himself and that’s so important to the way his mindset has changed and how he’s come to terms with things since leaving 2019.

Man...the siblings and their growth from their trauma, as well as their reactions to seeing Reginald and esp when it came to him being cruel to Diego was just so good. Each and every one had something in there that was important for and indicative of trauma survivors and coping mechanisms, and how you are when you’re growing and improving vs when you’re faced with a trigger and/or abuser and that is just so important. So we’re just. Gonna stick most of this under a read more bc there’s 7 of them and I’m going through each and every sibling lmao  so if you actually read this good for you bc it’s Super Fucking Long:
Luther: So I already spoke about Luther & Diego here, but man, I loved Luther this season. Last season if you had me rank my favorites it’d be “1. Ben 2. Every other Hargreeves sibling 3. Luther for me and this time it’s “1. Ben 2. Every other Hargreeves sibling” full stop. Luther has tried so hard to be the “Number One” in the group all the time, but in s1, he had no real priority besides Allison. This season, separating him from Allison, we get to see real emotional maturity from Luther. He apologizes to Vanya, he’s protecting Allison and Klaus, he chooses his current version of Five when he’s spotting.
Heck, even with Allison, I found I could tolerate their scenes together, and even enjoy some - him comforting her about having to leave Ray, apologizing for the movie-version-CPR, those scenes didn’t give me the same discomfort that their other scenes in season 1 have. They can’t erase their history and Luther can’t erase his feelings, but he’s also respecting boundaries. And you know what, it’s funny because by dropping this Number One identity, Luther actually became a good Number One - someone who supports and looks out for all the other siblings and trusts in their plans, instead of trying to unilaterally make decisions for them all.
When you look at the supper scene, Luther seems to “revert” back into his old self the least. Yes, he’s nervous, yes he has an outburst at his father close to the end again, but throughout the supper? Luther is the one who reaches out to Vanya and softly says maybe she shouldn’t showcase her powers, trying to be the peacemaker between his siblings while they’re upset, and standing up for them against their father. It’s important to remember Luther has already had his "first” meeting with Reginald about a year prior. He had his moment where he wanted to be Number One again, of being shot down hard by his father and realizing, without a doubt, that his father didn’t care about him and likely never would, and it allows him to at least try and keep the peace here.
Diego: I personally think Diego had the best development, and I will fight anyone who says that he’s too dumb (I mean I won’t, bc I can understand where that view comes from, but I also disagree he’s still shown to be smart, okay). But Diego ended up helping the siblings out of their situations the most, and it is mainly because of his emotional intelligence. We knew Diego was a sensitive one who made emotional bonds in season 1 of course - he had the biggest connection to Mom/Grace, he was the one who used to have connections in the police force and his relationship with Patch - out of all the siblings he seemed the most well-adjusted in terms of interpersonal relationships, though they certainly weren’t perfect.
But season 2? Diego makes a connection with Lila, a genuine connection. It’s important to note that when Lila is struggling, it is Luther & Diego who speak to her in words of comfort. Luther is ignored, of course, but he tells her that love shouldn’t have to hurt this much and he is right. And Diego is the one who gets through to her. Diego in season 1 is angry - at Reginald, at his siblings, at the world, but Diego in season 2 has learned to let himself give and receive love, and it helps him break through to Lila. And, we see yet again how good of a people person he is with the Commission. Yes, it’s because of Lila, but they headhunt him, and Herb and the rest of the Commission resistance adores Diego. He’s been there for what, a few hours? And he’s calling Herb “Herbie”, has a secret handshake with him, they look genuinely happy to see Diego. Five worked there for years and never made these connections, but Diego did, which helped him get a briefcase to bring his family home and figure out Vanya was the bomb and get the siblings to her in time. Diego’s emotional growth was amazing to watch because yes, he’s still in this hero mentality, yes he’s still making rash decisions at times, but he’s also building genuinely good relationships with people.
And now, the Dreaded(TM) - the scene with Reginald. Diego goes in confident, with the thought that they’re a united front, that he has the upper hand on Reginald for once. And then? Reginald utterly and completely tears him apart and for Diego, it’s like being a kid again. He gets so upset and so hurt that his stutter comes back, and there’s nothing else that he can say. And none of his siblings say something in his defense - not blaming them of course, because growing up with shared trauma, you’re all sad and scared, which includes not speaking up no matter how much it hurts seeing someone else get hurt or how much you want to say something.
Allison: Man, I love Allison more this season, and even though she was trying not to use her powers last season as well, this season we (and her) got to see that Allison can succeed without using her powers. She helps lead a civil rights movement and motivate everyone else, she is a powerful woman in her community, she finds genuine romantic love, and she does that all without her power. Her power is shown in season 1 to be something she used to get through life, to the point where nothing in her life became real and she used it on her own daughter. But this season? We see that Allison has merit, she is talented, strong, and intelligent, all on her own. She can fight, she can have a voice, she can do it without depending on this ability.
And we see two backslides - one, when she shows Ray her power, and we see her going back to the diner and using it on the racist waiter. And sure, he deserved it, but we see that Allison has glee at harming him (heck, most times when she’s using her rumor power she looks satisfied/vindicated) and she isn’t even fully aware of how deep she is until Ray pulls her out of it and tells her it’s enough. We saw a lot of Allison with Klaus this season, and while it’s not quite fair to say that Allison has an addiction because I don’t want to conflate the two, she does have to be careful with her powers because she can get sucked in so easily.
And the second one - when they’re about to see Reginald, and they’re arguing, Allison reverts to calling Diego “Number Two”. Nobody else has really reverted back to numbers by this point, but Allison gives him that dig - it’s their codename, the reminder that he’s so close to being number one but isn’t, it’s something designed to get under his skin that’s more pointed and hurtful than what siblings usually say to get under each other’s skin. And Diego’s response? Is that she’s a daddy’s girl. When Allison was a child, her rumor ability gave her power over others, and also allowed her to be useful to her father. Her dad used her in ways that he couldn’t use the other kids, it gave her the feeling of being Special, of being Important, and it most likely made it so that whenever she used it she was directly avoiding Reginald’s abuse, and probably making her the “daddy’s girl” that Diego was talking about. She laughs when Reginald writes down a note on Diego missing twice, rumors Diego to hit himself, her digs are at Diego because he’s the target for the moment. But when Diego gets taken down?
Tumblr media
Sorry for the crappy phone-version photo, but Allison is clearly uncomfortable, she specifically says nothing. As much as her digs at Diego were mean in the moment, she doesn’t want to see him genuinely get hurt, and it’s an interesting look at how the abuse affected Allison.
Yes, she uses her powers and falls into that “mean girl” persona when with her father, but it’s a method of survival, not who she genuinely is.
Klaus: So I’m going to be completely honest, I think in terms of development Klaus probably seems the most stagnant, though I wouldn’t say it is. Disclaimer: This next paragraph is going to make it seem like I hate Klaus and I want to promise you that I absolutely love him, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not going to call out his flaws and I’m kind of tired of seeing hate against Ben but nothing about Klaus for this situation.
His relationship with Ben, of course, suffered a lot. Ben strongly disapproves of his actions, and they’re fighting all the time because they only really have each other and because Ben wants to go back to San Francisco. It gets so bad that they essentially have a sibling break-up - I’ve seen people upset at Ben for possessing Klaus (particularly before having his consent to do so) but something I haven’t seen is the fact that Klaus continuously refused to let their other siblings know that Ben was alive and with them because they were arguing. He never once manifested Ben to them or let them know that Ben was there, and yeah, as much as Ben shouldn’t have tried to possess him, what Klaus did was extremely fucked up. He even acknowledged that Ben was his “ghost bitch” as he so put it, and said that Ben couldn’t do anything but follow him around, and then he told Ben that he was acting like Reginald. When he loses Dave again in his head, he goes back to drinking, stuck in the same cycle as he was before. When he makes his cult, he does it to thrive, but then abandons them because he doesn’t want to deal with it anymore and then wants to tell them the truth from selfish reasons as Ben points out.
Does that mean that Klaus has had no progress or is a bad person? No, of course not. Addiction is a struggle, and to hold Klaus’s relapse against him is unfair, and I think what’s more important is that Ben mentions that Klaus has been sober for 3 years. 3 years. That is huge. During this time it seems like Klaus has controlled his powers better - we don’t see hordes of ghosts following him around, and he’s able to summon them in the premiere opening & the finale. He’s able to use his powers, he just hates doing so because of his trauma, and Ben is a constant reminder that Klaus never let him walk into the light because he wanted his brother back. Klaus is just so wracked with guilt in everything that he does because yes, there are parts of it that are selfish, but it’s also born out of good intent. Yes, Klaus summoned Ben, but he wanted his baby brother back, he did want to tell the cult, but he had felt guilty that they were all following him when he just wanted to survive in the 60s, yes he freaked out Dave more than a little, but he was trying so hard to save his life.
And him during the supper. It’s interesting because depending on how you look at it, either Five (mentally), Luther (vibes/originally) or Klaus (physically) are the elder siblings, and while Luther and Five try passively to keep the peace in their own way, Klaus kind of does...nothing. Klaus is drunk the entire time, tries to have a casual comment to Reginald, and he’s largely silent - but he’s still obviously affected. Look at his face when Reginald is being cruel to Diego.
Tumblr media
He doesn’t like it, of course he doesn’t, but Klaus has been so used to being the ignored, passive voice in his family and we see a man who’s never been afraid to talk, whether it be to a homophobe in the 60s or to his siblings who chalk up some of his comments to addiction, we see him completely quiet after his initial greeting. His only real action, which is still silent (but sweet), is checking up on Diego after Allison rumors him to punch himself. It’s an interesting thing, and the reason I mention him being technically one of the oldest is that with trauma, sometimes the older sibling sees more and has learned to live with it, or to not say something, etc. and while Klaus was the same age as everyone else growing up, he still reminds me of that type of trauma survivor. We can see so perfectly into his life, quietly watching the trauma and wracked with guilt over things that aren’t his fault, trying so hard to get by, something that culminated in his addiction and this lack of sense on who he is without this coping mechanism, and it’s something I hope he gets to actually learn and develop like Allison did this season.
Five: Poor Five has had a hell of 2 weeks. I think something to remember with Five is that while the other siblings have had time to deal with their traumas, Five....really hasn’t gotten a break. Five went from an abusive household to getting trapped in the future, to being alone for decades, to having to be a hitman (something that majorly messed him up) to having to come back as a teenager and try saving his family from an apocalypse, to immediately having to try and save them again in another timeline. He had to see his family dead/dying twice. Five is a character who’s had trauma after trauma heaped onto him with no break or time to actually, genuinely process, and it shows. Five is constantly cycling between trying to round up his siblings and make sure they’re okay. He kills the board, something that causes him a lot of distress, but also doesn’t tell his family about it, much like he doesn’t talk about a lot of his time at the commission, maybe out of fear that they’ll see him differently. He’s upset, he’s traumatized, but he does it all for his family and what happens? When they don’t show up for him, he gets upset, he throws the briefcase away, he says fine, they’re dead to me, whatever.
But they’re not, really, and I think what’s interesting about Five is that he’s just so, so desperate to see his family again, safe, and he’s been cycling through different realities where they just keep on dying. The apocalypse, seeing them about to die in a second apocalypse, watching them all get gunned down in the finale? Every time he’s given an out, a way to save himself, he asks what about my family? He wants all his siblings to survive because he’s seen them fall too many times to count and that trauma on top of everything else is making Five desperate and start to unravel.
Five is fascinating because he loves saying he’s the oldest, and technically he is, but I think sometimes he realizes that he’s in a little kid’s body and that means his siblings will sometimes treat him like he’s younger regardless, and I think the younger sibling in Five wants to come out in those moments. When Diego tells him to call for him if he needs help, Five does. Five gets hurt by baby Pogo and immediately calls for Diego. When Five is talking to Diego about seeing Reginald again, he’s nervous. He hasn’t seen his father since he jumped forward in time, hasn’t had to, but realizing he has to now? Five looks vulnerable, nervous, he looks like a kid.
And on the flipside - Five acting older. During the dinner, he’s the one who takes the lead by saying that they’re Reginald’s children, he’s the one who Reginald notes as seeming worthy enough, he even remarks with a little bit of wonder that actually, he’s technically older than Reginald now. It gives him courage, and we also see how he tries, like Luther, to keep the peace, although in a different way. When Diego shows his powers and Reginald insults him, Diego is up to fight and Five gets out of his seat, stopping Diego. He then goes into a quick rundown of everyone’s powers - let’s be honest, if each sibling had said their power, Reginald would have given a quick insult to each, and Five prevented that from happening. When Diego was insulted again? None of the siblings speak up (save for Ben attempting to jump in), and what does Five do? He takes the attention away from Diego, saying the president is unimportant. Five seems so focused in on his mission, but it’s about saving and protecting his family, and he does it so seamlessly here by literally redirecting attention away from the targeted family members (Diego in this case) and bringing it back to him and the mission at hand.
Ben: So Ben’s arc this season includes being seen, and the fact that he’s had the lack of autonomy to do so (and, ironically, taking away that autonomy from Klaus in the attempts to possess him).
I already spoke about his reaction during the supper scene here, and I won’t beat that dead horse but I will say it’s interesting that Ben and Klaus are both “passive observers” here - Klaus because it’s been what he’s used to, and Ben because he no longer is content being one. I think, personally Ben hates Reginald. And why wouldn’t he? He’s the one who actively didn’t want to be a superhero, who seemed to hate using his powers, who died for a cause that he didn’t even want to be in. When he enters the supper he doesn’t take his eyes off Reginald as he sits down, he’s frustrated that Klaus won’t let them know that he’s there, he wants to say something and have a voice. When Klaus says that Ben is acting just like Reginald, Ben recoils away from the thought and tells him to never say that.
Ben is trying this entire season to help his siblings, to be seen by his siblings - whether it be Klaus listening to him, wanting Allison to not enable Klaus, wanting to hug Diego and help him, and he finally gets to with Vanya. She was the one sibling he didn’t get to say goodbye to, and he got to say goodbye to her and help her, something he’s tried to do for Klaus for years but was unable to. Ben is snarky, sarcastic, a bit of a bastard, but he’s also so soft for his siblings. While Hargreeves blames them, and the siblings blame each other (particularly Luther & Diego), Ben never seems to blame any of them - even immediately after being summoned he’s not angry, just calm and understanding. Ben only ever shows annoyance at Klaus not listening to him, and genuine, subtle anger at Reginald, but never any other sibling. He wants them to be happier, more fulfilled, have better coping mechanisms and he gets that with Vanya, he knows she’s not a monster. In terms of trauma and how Ben relates, I feel like he’s accepted that there’s no going back for him, but that as long as you’re living and breathing that you don’t have to be stuck in your trauma or what your abusers said you are, you can be more, you can always change. He reminds Vanya of that and while we definitely better see Ben again next season as you know, actual Ben, it’s also a very fitting conclusion for him to have gone off getting through, literally, to one of his siblings.
Vanya: Vanya kind of has two different trauma reactions for me - one of which being repressed memories. It’s a common thing, to have years of your life that you just straight up don’t remember, and it’s a way for your body to try and protect yourself. If you don’t remember that trauma, well, you can’t be affected by it, you know? It’s a way for your brain to preserve itself, and it’s not without its fears or own issues or worries but it’s a coping mechanism, same as anything else.
Of course, Vanya also probably has amnesia from getting hit by the car, and I saw another side to her that a lot of trauma survivors have asked themselves before - Who would I have been had this trauma never happened to me? Yes, the trauma obviously did happen to Vanya, but her having a clear slate allows her to live without the inhibitions and trauma heaped on her. She can freely explore her powers, her emotions aren’t suppressed, she’s not feeling the guilt of the apocalypse, and learning about the troubles feels impersonal, because knowing you did something isn’t quite the same as remembering it and feeling those emotions.
And Vanya is happier for it. She shows so much emotion, she’s excited about her powers - while she seems intimidated by Reginald and knows that he’s awful from her siblings, she is excited to show off her powers at supper. She shows confidence, and even when she messes up and overdoes it, she just kind of shrugs and goes, “oops” but she’s not upset at it. Vanya is freer, more confident, able to go against the status quo and encourages time and time again for Sissy to do the same. Vanya is unafraid of who she is with this blank slate, and it shows that had she actually been given the opportunity to grow instead of being told she was a monster right from the start, Vanya would have flourished.
When she remembers, it’s important to note that they’re having dinner again, and that Reginald is chastising her. Even her siblings are, in her head, acting like they did when they were kids. But Five and Ben? Five is just looking at her concerned, and Ben actively roots for her, and they’re both seated the closest to her, which is fitting, because they seemed like they gave her the most support - Vanya felt like the family was fractured when Five left, and irreparable once Ben died. As much as she loves her siblings, Vanya was stuck in the thought that she didn’t have love from them, that she wasn’t deserving of love, that if she remembered she would feel that lack of love again and her fears manifest as her father telling her she’s weak and pathetic. And at the end? Ben tells her she was never the problem, she was never a monster, Reginald and his poor attempt at parenting was, and I think that’s such an important thing to see because it’s something survivors wonder time and time again, and to see a character who’s “responsible” for these to get told, no, it’s not you, it was never you, and you have a right to feel upset about it but you are not and never will be a monster is just beautiful.
In short, the siblings: We see growth and backslides from them all, and they all kind of follow similar themes - coping with the trauma (and others outside of their home life), their personal growth, and their backslides. We also see them trying hard to find their own identity - Luther denying his Number 1 role, Five not wanting to be an assassin anymore, Allison being a leader of her own merit, etc. - and learning how to give and receive love. Yes, they have backslides, yes the trauma is always with them, yes it causes them tension. We also see them falling silent when Reginald walks in, all leaning in to see what he’s writing, feeling quiet and uncomfortable when he speaks, but you know what? Diego says “So much for Team Zero” in anger after the dinner but by the finale, he says, “I know what it’s like to love dangerous people, difference is, they love me back.” Ben wants so badly to be seen that he lets up on his rational role and tries jumping into Klaus, but when he saves Vanya he does that as himself, Vanya knows what she’s done but doesn’t break, and tells her siblings that she not only needs them, she wants them with her.
This season was excellent because amongst their growth they showed that it didn’t mean they were perfect, but rather that they were growing. The shared trauma they have comes with mess-ups and triggers and different coping mechanisms and sometimes biting words and arguments, but they’re also learning to not hold those against each other but instead help and accept one another. They act as a team, they act as siblings, and remind each other that they don’t have to do this alone or face their traumas alone and that is just so, so wonderful.

Let’s talk about Ben becoming Sparrow!Ben / Number one
So, I just watched the end TUA s2 yesterday and it really made me think about Ben (but, then again he’s the only one I usually think about). It’s amazing that in this timeline, HE’S NUMBER ONE. He’s the one with the painting in the main room and he’s basically the leader of the team now.
But how did that happen? Of course the timeline now is different but, what were the reasons that led up to that?
Please bear with me, this will be one long ass meta under the readmore.
I think the main reasons are Klaus and Vanya.
Now let me explain first. Let’s start with Klaus.
Klaus is obviously the closest sibling to Ben. Even when they were young, it had been obvious and basically canon already that they were each other’s best friends within the group of siblings. We even have that one scene where Vanya was destroying the house in s1 and reminiscing horrible memories and her memories were of BEN AND KLAUS TOGETHER in one memory
Tumblr media
Also, prob a bit of Horrance because this was taken from a Horrance post. But, please bear with me. I would like to point out, shippy or not shippy that it seems that they were also close enough to want to SHARE A ROOM TOGETHER.
Tumblr media
I adjusted the brightness of the picture above and confirmed that yes. THAT IS ANOTHER BED. THERE IS ANOTHER BED IN THIS ROOM SO IT IS NOT A FAR REACH TO THINK THAT BEN AND KLAUS SHARED A ROOM.
Tumblr media
And seriously? With how rich their father is you know he would be decent enough to give every child their own room.
But what I get from this is that not only are they close, but how Ben can also be protective and caring of Klaus. Let’s go back to episode 4 in s1 where Reginald locked him in a mausoleum. From that experience alone, Klaus would’ve been vulnerable, afraid, claustrophobic, and obviously traumatized. He’s Ben’s best friend and most closest sibling. Ben is a softy from what I can see, he cares very deeply and is a concerned person. I wouldn’t even be surprised if he was the one to suggest to Klaus that they start sleeping in one room together.
I think seeing his brother being afraid of the dark and unable to function properly brought out his primal instinct to protect and care. He allowed himself to be emotionally vulnerable in a way that he shows and acts that he cares. In their world, that would have been a big mistake. Showing weakness by letting people know that you care and would get hurt if this person were to be hurt is something that can get used against you. I would not put it past Reginald of slipping that kind of idea into them.
Yes, you protect your siblings because you can die from not defending one another. But why protect them from your own father? Why protect them and care for them? If they’re weak, then that’s good for you because you can climb up higher into Daddy’s ranking and get a better position. But no, Ben let himself care and damned it all for his best friend.
And going back to the pictures above, I know that Vanya sees Ben’s words as a stinging knife to the heart. Reminding her once again that she, out of all the siblings, is the un-special one. But you also have to take in the fact that there is such a thing as tough love. I can imagine young!Vanya looking up to her siblings and asking them about their missions and probably in more than one occasion begging for them to tag her along, just smuggle her out of the house. Let her see and experience what it’s like to be a hero like them.
She comes to Ben and Klaus for that. I think out of all the siblings, Vanya is actually closest to Ben in a way that Ben also sees her as someone to protect. Vanya is their *ehem* “most fragile” *ehem* sibling, the one with “no powers” so he has also been protective of her. I can imagine him trying to befriend and play with her as much as he can, including her in many things because he sees that she’s miserable and always alone.
We can even imagine Ben trying to either train with her and worrying about her at some nights. She lives in a house full of people with superpowers and she’s just ordinary. What if one day, someone attacks them and he wouldn’t be able to protect Vanya? What if one day there will come a time that they can’t defend someone evil and he’s gone? How will Vanya survive? How can he keep Vanya safe and protect her at the same time?
Ben sees Vanya and Klaus as people he has to take care of.
Let’s also not forget the fact that Vanya practically told all of us that Ben was the glue keeping them all together. s1 ep3
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here she tells her readers how distraught everyone was for Ben’s death. And that him dying was basically the last straw, nobody could get along anymore because I think, Ben was their peacemaker.
Yes, we have Luther who is by their vote and their father’s, the “eldest” sibling, but being the eldest doesn’t mean you can be the mediator. He is the stereotype definition of eldest sibling, golden boy with a lot of achievements, always follows their parents, prim and proper, and always initiates things to go into motion.
But, he is not a mediator. He is not someone who can get everyone in line to listen. Yes, he has leader qualities, but not all of them. He is missing the ability to empathizing and include others. I actually wish we saw some flashback interactions with him and Ben, or Luther talking about Ben because I wanna see how their relationship would’ve been.
The same goes with Five. He is leader material as well (given he’s 58 years old tbh), but he has a hard time with his emotions and empathizing with the others as well.
So all in all, who else has the power to empathize with the others? Who else has that? Allison and Ben.
Allison is someone who I think is very good with people even without her rumour power (as we can see with season two). She and Ben seem to have had a very good relationship too judging from her scene in s1 ep2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think she and Ben were the mediators within the family. They are the ones who is most often on the neutral side of things, thinking about everything and everyone, the pros and cons, everyone’s feelings, and how they can make a solution that will make less sacrifices.
I think out of everyone, both Allison and Ben are the ones who take care of their sibling in a more emotional way. They allow themselves to show weakness or strength in a sense that, they let their guard down and allow themselves to just care. They also protect their siblings, but with Ben I think it’s deeper.
In regards to Ben protecting and even sacrificing himself on a deeper level than Allison, I will refer to this post that talked about their numbers. Some were saying that they were numbered backwards, from weakest to strongest, yet at the same time, it was also based on their usefulness for Reginald.
If we go with the usefulness and how well Reginald can manipulate them, then it is also very plausible. Luther is our golden boy who wants to please their father, Diego although denies it still tries hard to be a superhero that their father told them to be, Allison is also very much afraid of their father. Although she loves him even when he was abusive, she still followed him. Klaus being four is because of his fear, he’s very lenient and will somewhat do what their father wants. He wasn’t like Vanya who could blow up the place where he was being kept, so in a way he was easier to manipulate. Five obviously had a mind of his own as well.
So why, pray tell, is Ben number six? How was he immune to being manipulated and used whenever by Reginald?
My answer, Klaus and Vanya.
I think he saw how unfairly they were treated, saw how vulnerable his siblings are, and that was what made him rebel against Reginald. Klaus and Vanya are close to him, they are the siblings he is closest to, so having to see them go through all of those hardships, those trauma, and be so unloved by their father because they could not control their powers or have “no” powers in Vanya’s case.
I think in his own way, Ben stood up for his siblings that’s why his rank/number was demoted to six. He was punished to have a lower number.
I think the reason that the Umbrella siblings were so protective of each other was because Ben rebelled in a way that he saw injustice within their father and did something about it, even if it caused him a way to gain his father’s favor and love.
Now, after that explanation with how Ben became Ben with the Umbrella, let’s go to Number One in Sparrow. I will be calling him One now.
One did not have Klaus and Vanya growing up. I cannot assume yet what their upbringing was like, but with how I just described Ben’s relationships with the others, I think the Sparrows are more cut-throat and independent from one another.
One has become the “eldest” and supreme sibling here. He is the most useful and easily the most powerful as well. One did not die at a young age, so him being able to tap more into the secrets of his powers and being able to hone and improve it is deadly. The fact that Vanya is not here, we could also speculate that One is also the most powerful sibling here right now.
I would also like to reference my own post here on how powerful Ben could have been if he had not died. One has had years of training behind his back to polish his skills. The theory of One being a portal that could easily summon and manipulate monsters from another dimension is too good. He is the living embodiment of OP wherein he is calm, collected, and knows how to control himself and his emotions to not set an apocalypse in motion. That is, only if this theory even has a smidgen of a chance to become canon. Or has some aspects that can become canon.
But anyways, Ben with his stomach and Bentacles is OP enough already.
Going back to One, the idea of his siblings here being more independent and cut throat is a big possibility. I’m not saying that they don’t have a bond or that the Sparrow siblings hate each other. All I’m saying is that they might not have been as affectionate and emotionally open as the Umbrella siblings.
I mean like heck, even Diego, who is our most macho character has a soft side, especially for Ben.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look how soft they both look here, how Diego hugs Ben and just the all around atmosphere of it. You can feel from this scene alone how important Ben is to Diego.
I don’t think the Sparrow siblings have this kind of connection, hence why One was able to become One. Yes, they probably work better as a unit/team and yes, they will probably be better at using their powers and combining it with their other siblings, they’ve been together for 30 years and did not separate like the Umbrella siblings... But the actual connection of being soft and loving one another? The urge to protect and be vulnerable? I don’t think they have that.
I think, the Sparrow Academy will have more emotions and frustrations bottled up inside of them, than the Umbrella Academy. They’re trained to be tougher. At least, that’s what I’m speculating for now. I could be wrong on this one.
My speculation will be that Sparrow kids will be more independent and have lesser feelings and emotions for the others. Unlike Umbrella who obviously care so much about each other.
All in all, I think Sparrow!Ben/One will be an asshole in season 3 lmao we’re probably going to hate him so much in the first few episodes until we see how fucked up Reginald has raised them.
I look forward seeing how everyone will react to One, I think in the end, he’ll become our Ben one way or another. The Umbrella sibling’s bond is too strong to be severed, even in alternate realities.
But also, it will be such a good bitter tragedy if One loves his Sparrow siblings more and they were raised better because fuckkkkk that would hurt so good lmao

I haven't rambled on about the dynamics of Klaus and Five in a while, but here's an idea.
Tumblr media
I don't know exactly what the phrase was like in English, sorry, I usually see it in Latin Spanish. But when Five goes to find Klaus to 'save the world', I felt something warm on my chest. Five says he "has to settle for Klaus" but actually the subtext is much more interesting in that scene. Five does not usually open up emotionally with his siblings, he will never tell them that he needs them and tries to avoid that moment when he has to ask for their help. If we watch the series, Five very rarely NEEDED his siblings.
Tumblr media
I feel like Five talks in subtext all the time. When he says 'stay away' he is 'help me', when he approaches someone he seeks comfort, but he will never admit it. In this case, it went to Klaus and it may be because Diego is not there, neither is Allison, Luther is missing and there is no one else in the house except the two of them, but Five is there for the first time, at that moment where he needs help of his brother, he needs to feel with another. "The two of us are going to do it, it's not my first choice, but it's definitely my first choice." says Five in subtext.
Tumblr media
In the series, it is not the only time where Five finds comfort and companionship in the brother who 'does not serve' for the rest. Five always finds him a job. Be my father to seek information from one eye, join me to save the world, go with me and Diego. He is even frustrated when Klaus refuses to accompany him, because in a way, Klaus ends up being Five's comfort and Five's for Klaus.
When the rest of the siblings use Klaus as the watchdog, Five finds him for a moment, trusts him. Remember when Klaus said in the last chapter that he sees Ben? At first, Five follows the pack, but if you can see him better, listen to your brother, believe him too.
Tumblr media
Something I did not like about the second season is that all the good things that happened in the first season just fade away and although it is clearly seen that they still love each other, there is not so much interaction between them, which did not allow us to see the relationship development so strong that it started in S1.

He doesn't tell them about the other 36 children. - In an alternate timeline, Reginald chooses to adopt 6 different children (plus Ben) to form The Sparrow Academy because he knows of The Umbrella Academy's failings.
1993 - Reginald has already begun training the children (aged 3). It’s mentioned that they train together and also have “designated training days.” - Vanya (3) kills several nannies before Grace is created. At some unknown point after this (but before they turn 12) Grace gives the children names.
Oct-Dec 1993 Whilst working for the Commission, Five (53-58) assassinates the parents of Lila Spitts. Unbeknownst to him, the Handler then adopts Lila (4) and begins training her./p>
June 12th 1994 Reginald beings training Vanya (4) to hone her powers. He notes that in a chaotic environment (such as with the nannies) she quickly looses control, so uses a sustained note to encourage her to “locate control in another form”.
June 24th 1994 After 12 days of successful training, Vanya (4) refuses to listen and lashes out. Based on the cut on Reginald’s face, Vanya is immediately locked in the isolation chamber.
July 1994 Based on the healed cut on Reginald face, Vanya (4) is kept in isolation for at least 2 weeks. She is medicated and then made to forget about her powers by Allison (4).
1998 - Klaus (8) is locked in the mausoleum (seen in the flashback). - Diego (8) tells Klaus that licking a 9 volt battery will give him pubes.
2000 Lila (10) trains in a obstacle course while the Handler fires a machine gun at her.

for the tua asks: 13, 22, 23, & 29
i would very much like to hear your thoughts!
Thank you so much for the ask! And I am sorry for the late answer, I just saw this when going to bed last night so thought I should sleep on the questions to be able to give you a slightly better version of the one my tired brain managed to come up with yesterday haha. This got super long, I am so sorry!
13 -  If you could change one of the siblings’ storylines, who would you pick and what would you change?
I know some people have said this before, so its not very original, but I would change Ben (and Klaus) storyline. I know I can only choose one, but the main problems that I want to change involve both of them sooo (and I also just really wished they wouldn't treat Klaus as purely comedic relief with little to no plot relevance...and give him his powers back please). Most of my complaints could be solved by having 55min eps instead of 45, as I think having more screentime would solve most of the problems. So here we go:
1) I liked that were fighting, but I would like to know why. I wish we could see how all the negativity started (besides assuming they just are fed up with each other because they disagree on...everything), like was there a very specific thing that happened that just was the final straw? Could we please have some build-up? We also see that they care for each other in s2, but I would like to have seen more of it, cause the first time I watched it I didn't really feel it. Now, on my 7th rewatch I can see it more clearly (which is why I always rewatch shows a million times, cause I always notice new things or just pay more attention to background stuff). So what I really want is just more scenes that show more of their relationship so that it is clearer to the audience how their relationship started to deteriorate and some more love. I know it's not always best to show everything, let some stuff happen off-screen, not spell everything out, but... Robert and Justin have mentioned two scenes that they cut, which was Klaus making a heart at Ben and mouthing I love you too or something, and Klaus asking other ghosts if they have seen Ben after Ben passed. And I just wished they didn't cut it. And added some more scenes with Ben and Klaus in San Fran or something, just a little more of them on their own before the fam showed up AND, we were robbed for a final goodby between them and I will forever be mad about it.
2) I love Jill, and I liked the possession actually, it seems like something Ben would do (and I don't mean having sex with Jill, cause I don't think he would have. The way he said “sure, but” felt, for me, more like an awkward no, where you say yes, but it is immediately followed by a clumsy excuse as to why you can't) What I didn't like was the motivation behind it. Ben hasn't talked to his family in years, but what makes him want to be alive again is a girl he hasn't interacted with. I think it was cute that Ben had a crush, but I think Bens's motivation for possessing Klaus should have been to talk to the fam. It makes more sense, as Ben is mad at Klaus for not telling the fam about him, and we had the “I missed you guys so much” scene. I think it would fit better. But Jill is cute and I would love for her to be in the show. Maybe a scene (like the one where Ben is staring at her while she reads in the bus) where Ben sits next to her while she is tending to some flowers or something. Just a cute innocent ghost crush.
3) The last point is the whole going to the light thing. I get that they need Klaus alone and this was the way to get Ben to go, but it was introduced so late, and when it was it felt rushed. Bens' death could have been more impactful if this was a concept that was established for s1. Maybe mention that Klaus feels guilty about holding him back at the start of s2, but preferably in s1.
This is long, sorry! A lot of other people have said this so much better. So yeah, just more scenes with Ben (and Klaus) to elaborate more on the implied stuff and have Bens funeral and going into the light earlier.
22 -  Do you think the siblings like their code-names?
I think Luther, Diego, and Allison like their names. Allison's name makes sense and she likes her powers (up until she gets caught rumoring Claire), and while Spaceboy and the Kraken make very little sense, I think they enjoy them. Luther likes space, and Diego still uses his as a boxing alias, and why wouldn't he, he thinks he sounds badass. Though he might have conflicting feelings because of the bad memories from the Academy.
Klaus doesn't like his name, cause I can't imagine him liking anything that has to do with his powers or the academy days. Ben loathes his for the same reason and its such a horrible name for such a sweet boy :(
Five and Vanya? I am not sure. The boy is..... I don't even know, it makes no sense for that to be his name when the majority of the Academy is boys. But if it was I think he would hate it when he is 58, cause he is MAN, not a BOY even if he looks it. But when he was young? Maybe indifferent, I don't think he would be too bothered by an alias. The White Violin is not Vanya's alias officially, but if it was she would love it so much! Its badass, and she get to be a part of the Academy. What's not to love?
23 -  What sort of relationship do you think each sibling has with Grace?
This is mostly their relationship with her after they moved out since that's what I have the most thoughts about. I hope that's okay :) This also got waaaaay longer than I thought it would, I apparently have a lot of thoughts on this haha I am very sorry.
Luther) I think Luther and Grace were very close! Not when he was a kid (he was the leader and he had to be strong, and that means no running to mom when Reggie is being awful or when his siblings are being mean), but when everyone else moved out. I like to think that Grace would spoil him as much as she could. She has so much love and attention that used to be stretched for 7, but now Luther gets all of it. After working out she would make him good and super nutritious food and sneak in some cookies every now and then when he was missing his siblings or Reggie was being more of an asshole than usual. Luther would hang out in the kitchen and help her with the food. When Reggie was away, they (and Pogo) would eat dinner in the kitchen where Reggie rarely went (Grace wouldn't eat but she would sit down and enjoy some family time). It would be super informal and they would try to talk (but it's a bit awkward cause Luther doesn't know how to have dinner conversations since they weren't allowed to). After a few tries at small talk, Luther just puts on his favorite music and they eat in comfortable silence.
I also think that Luther tried to commit suicide after the accident and the serum, and Grace would find him, patch him up and comfort him when he was breaking down. She would tell him she was proud of him and that she loves him so much. He will always be her little boy even if he is big. She would keep stroking his hair long after he fell asleep and she would stay with him all night until he gets better and gets shipped to the moon.
Diego) Well, I will pretty much state the obvious, Diego loves her and would spend as much time with her as possible, especially after Klaus started to be high more times than not. They would do everything together. Grace loves all her children, but Diego spent the most time with her, and after moving out he will still check in on her every now and again when something bad happens (Patch breakup, getting kicked out of the police academy). He says he just wants to make sure she is alright, and while it is true, he also likes to see his mom when he is feeling down. She would patch up his clothes and make him some food he could take home cause she worries he is not eating well enough. When he moved out, Grace gave him the knife embroidery (in the boileroom) as a gift.
Allison) I don't think Allison and Grace were super close. While they love each other a lot, they don't spend much time together. When Allison was young she spent a lot of her time with Luther, and she tried to get Reggies' attention and approval (Diego call her Daddys girl so). I think Allison starts to appreciate Grace more when Claire is born. Having one normal kid is hard, she cant imagine having 7 super-powered ones. So after Claire is born she would call Grace and ask for advice and they would bond over being mothers (and maybe she would call every other week just to hear her mom's voice cause she misses her). Grace loves to hear about Claire, though she has never spoked to her. When Allison has to be in Detroit (there was a post about the Academy being in Detroit and I am running with it) she always visits Grace and they have coffee and cake, and Grace is so happy to see the newest pictures of Claire, and hear about how Allison's career is going.
Klaus) Klaus and Grace weren't close when he was a kid and not after moving out. Grace would take care of him when he overdoses or just can't make it to the bed before passing out. She would make sure that there was always water and some food on his bedside table, tuck him in and check in with him every hour to make sure he was okay, and if she had the time she would be there all night. He had a lot of nightmares, so I think she would read to him or sing on bad nights and when Reggie wouldn't notice. Sometimes he would go to her charging station and sit with her when the ghosts were worse than usual. She might be still while charging, but he doesn't want to be alone. Sometimes he would put his head on her lap, and when he woke up it would be to her petting his head. She loves it when Klaus borrows her clothes. The few times she caught him she would gush about her pretty boy, and Klaus loved that. After Klaus fell down the stairs, she moved her heels to the top shelf in her room and made sure that her jewelry was very visible so that he could compensate for heels with more necklaces.
After moving out he would rarely come back, though sometimes he would sneak in during the winter to sleep in his room. She always makes sure that the bed is made and that there is some non-perishable food there for him, and she would leave a sweet and short letter for him that he reads, but stores in a shoebox in the closet before climbing out the window.
Five) Five and Grace are not close either. Before he time traveled she would clean his room and smile fondly over the math on the walls. She would always make sure that she didn't clean anything that he needed. If he was particularly excited and Grace caught him writing stuff, he would ramble on about it and she would just sit there and be proud of her smart boy even if everything he said went over her head. During the apocalypse, he thought about her and he wished he spent more time with her, and he plans to, when he has prevented the apocalypse. He hoped he could still do it after the sibs come back from 63, but now he wont be able to :(
Ben) Grace would read to Ben when he was very young and his tummy hurt. This sparked his interest in reading. She would recommend him books based on what he likes and she would always be happy to talk to him about it. I don't think she has read a lot of books, but maybe she has some version of spark notes in her programming (haha, sorry). Not getting the zipper up on the combat outfit was a common occurrence. She would hug him before missions, cause he always looked so anxious and sad. She promised him that when he got back home there would be cocoa there for him and some mom snuggles, which makes it slightly more bearable for him. She does not like that her sweet boy is covered in blood and looking worse and worse every time he gets home. (Glossing over his death, cause I am not sure how she would react to his death)
Ghost Ben sometimes visits her when Klaus wants some privacy or when they have had a fight, and he would just follow her around the house and talk to her even if she can't respond. Sometimes when he is lucky he visits during Luther, Grace, and Pogo dinner, and he will sit down with them and pretend that they know he is there.
Vanya) Grace and Vanya would be close. When the siblings were on missions, Grace would listen to her play the violin. Sometimes Vanya wouldn't feel up to playing and they would sit in her room and Grace would assure her that she is her very special girl and she is happy that there is someone there to keep her company. Grace is anxious when the kids are on missions, and she channels her robot anxiety into taking care of Vanya and give her her undivided attention. It was Vanya's favorite part of her childhood, as she finally gets to be the center of attention. Vanya does not go back to the Academy before the funeral, and when Grace misses her she would look at the “My life as Number 7″. Not to read it, but she likes to look at the author's picture to remind herself about what she looks like, all grown up.
29 -  Give a random headcanon
When Klaus dies and meets God, she says that she needs him so she can pick and choose. I headcanon that it means his presence on earth makes her able to pick the people who come to the afterlife, and therefore she keeps him alive. The reason he dies in the 2019 apocalypse is that everyone on earth is dead, and God has picked the ones she liked, and it's just then that she allowes him to die.
Thank you so much for the ask, it was very fun! I am sorry this is so long, but hopefully I answered okay :)

The Umbrella Academy and The Avengers Crossover!
So let’s do another crossover because I have too many ideas and like no time to write what with school and my other stories I would love to start posting before summer. So, let’s dive right in!
Firstly, let me just say that there aren’t nearly enough TA and TUA crossovers. Both groups have such brilliant and vibrant characters, it would be a sin not to see what would happen when we combine their dynamics. On the same note - because I cannot deal with major character death (like at all, I filter stories like that on AO3), let’s just pretend that all characters from the Marvel universe are just fine and dandy and ALIVE and will never die.
With that said - to the actual crossover!
When Five attempted to jump his siblings to the past at the end of TUA S1, he instead managed to jump them to a different dimension. And this dimension, unlike the one the kids come from is filled to a brim with superheroes.
Because of Loki’s use of the Tesseract that is already tearing into a hole into the space-time continuum (it is after all bending space to allow the Chitari access to Earth) Five’s jump gets side-tracked and the siblings end up in New York just as the Chitauri are attacking. Five immediately realizes that they are in the wrong place (and time) and attempts to warn the others. However, he ends up passing out before he can do properly explain what happened.
So, the remaining siblings, now in their 13-year-old bodies, with unconscious Vanya and Five attempt to do what they were trained to do - be heroes. Problem is because they show their powers, SHIELD notices them. And of course, there are agents storming down the kids’ hiding place and catching them after the invasion is dealt with.
Long story short, they manage to incapacitate the siblings and bring them to the SHIELD custody. Nick Fury is already planning on testing their powers and pretty much training them to be his little soldiers just like Reginald wanted, but the newly-formed Avengers catch on his plan fairly quickly. And it wouldn’t be Tony if he didn’t alert Captain America who is full of morals and surely against locking up children. So after much threats and bargaining, the Avengers essentially end up adopting seven kids who aren’t actually kids but never bothered to tell them (Five strongly advised his siblings against that).
At first, both sides are deeply mistrustful of each other. Five doesn’t trust anybody, especially not eccentric billionaires (been there done that, thanks a lot Reginald), assassins (because come on are Hawkeye and Black Widow honestly going to pretend they don’t kill people for living, Five knows what a killer looks like - he can see one in the mirror every morning), two muscular oafs (he knows Luther, that’s enough) and a shadowy organization that is trying to “protect the world” (as if the people at Temps Commission didn’t say the same thing). In Five’s mind, this is just a warped version of their own dimension and he won’t let those people touch his siblings.
So he fights tooth and nail to get his siblings out of SHIELD and then out of the Avengers’ Tower. They almost escape both times, but Jarvis (that traitor!) rats them out. It isn’t until Five lashes out at Tony (because Five won’t fall for this false sense of security, he knows they are just waiting to strike, to experiment on his siblings, to terminate Vanya, to “improve” Klaus, he just knows it) and in his anger describes some of the torture Reginald put them through when the Avengers finally understand what the actual problem is. They do their best to prove to Five that they are not and will never be like their late father. They try to be gentle and encouraging and talk about things (which is its own kind of torture for everyone involved). And Five reluctantly finds himself expanding his tight-knit family a little bit, to accommodate firstly the Iron Man and eventually Pepper and Bruce and Steve. He is still mistrustful of Fury, Black Widow and Hawkeye, but no one can fault him for that.
And funnily enough, after much trial and error of the Avengers attempting to “raise” seven “kids”, it all works out pretty well.
Tony, Bruce, Five and Ben have the weirdest type of bond. They are completely capable of talking science for hours (because Five and Ben still have to find out how science works in this universe and Tony and Bruce are so taken with the idea of time travel that all four just spend hours picking each others’ brains) and then promptly start insulting or ignoring each other (well, Tony and Five do that, Bruce and Ben just watch them with frustration and amusement depending on the day) whenever they have “outside audience” (meaning anyone who doesn’t belong into their science bros club).
Bruce and Vanya start something like a mentor-apprentice relationship. Bruce knows all about how difficult it is to have destructive powers that are linked to your emotions. So he and Vanya start semi-official Yoga & Herbal Tea Club together. The other Avengers and Umbrella Academy heroes join them every now and then. Eventually, Tony sets up a greenhouse at the Avengers Tower that is supposed to work as an oasis for their more volatile teammates and Vanya and Bruce organize weekly tea parties and violin concerts in there. (And even though Five grumbles tea is the worst and what he wouldn’t give for a decent cup of coffee, he ends up attending every single week.)
Alison’s throat has healed now that she is in her past body, but she is still reluctant to use her powers; nothing good ever came out of that. Natasha picks up on her reluctance and decides to instead teach her how to read and manipulate people without powers. In her opinion, it is a “healthy alternative”, because then Alison isn’t taking free will from anyone; people are just dumb enough to fall for a well-thought-out strategy. Alison is surprisingly ok with that because she feels like she can actually use these skills for something good - such as defusing fights between her siblings.
Luther is the one sibling that struggles the most in this new universe. All he has ever been told by his idealized father figure turned out to be a lie. He attempts to start a new chapter of his life in this new universe, but it is difficult. He is not sure who he is any longer. Steve Rogers can relate - he himself didn’t have the easiest of times adjusting to the future he woke up in. Steve and Luther tentatively manage to start a friendship where Luther learns a lot about being an actual leader that does what is right. And if Luther starts idealizing Captain America just a tiny little bit, no one says a thing, because Steve is a major improvement over Reginald any day.
Diego is unsurprisingly quite taken with Hawkeye. They start training together. Diego is working on expanding the range of his knife-throwing and Hawkeye is a worthy opponent for that. They don’t quite have a friendship, but they treat each other a little bit like friendly colleagues. However, Clint is forever amused by Diego’s stuttering around Black Widow and his obvious worship of Pepper. Diego has a thing for bossy women, motherly figures and generally strong females and his traitorous 13-year-old body filled with hormones is not helping that in the slightest.
Klaus kind of fluctuates between being alright and relapsing to addiction. He spends the most time in the greenhouse or with Ben, but he starts getting antsy pretty fast. Ghosts are in every dimension and the Avengers’ Tower is hunted by quite a few. Klaus starts stealing some liquor from Tony but is quickly found out. Tony calls Professor X to come to have a look at Klaus’ powers because Tony might be a great engineer, but this magical mumbo jumbo is beyond him at this point. Charles Xavier mainly relieves Klaus of the fear of the dead, but that slightly backfires, because Klaus is always extra and gets a little frunk on the fearlessness (running head first into any battle and literally not being afraid of anything, his siblings are pretty scared for him). Professor X then tries a different tactic and coaches Klaus in how to use his powers. They make some progress, but it is not until Doctor Strange comes around that Klaus actually masters his ouija-board-like powers.
Thor is like the fun uncle that shows every once in a while, causes mayhem and disappears. Diego, Luther and Klaus positively adore him. Thor dotes on Vanya and Alison and calls them “little Valkyries” or “his favourite Midgardian ladies right after Jane”. Five hates Thor, because of his oaf-ish tendencies and the fact that he loves to pick him up (Five is sure it is at least partially because Thor knows he hates it - not that it matters because Five is rarely caught off guard and teleports away before Thor can even touch him). Thor says Five reminds him of his brother when he was young (these statements usually paint a rather uncomfortable expression on Tony’s face). Ben just finds the visits amusing and loves to see his siblings’ antics.
Pepper and Natasha (and eventually Jane, Darcy and Wanda) have a shopping day with Kaus, Alison and Vanya once a month. Natasha and Alison people-watch while picking out sexy dresses, Pepper and Vanya look at the best new button-downs and Klaus (and Darcy) usually spends hours in the make-up section. Sometimes they take other people from the Tower with them - Tony, Bruce and Five and rarely persuaded to go anywhere, but Steve, Ben and Luther can be swayed. It’s hilarious to watch Steve navigate his way through stores with electronics.
Tony and Pepper are no doubt the ones most affected by the kids. Tony can relate to the abuse and neglect of parental figure far too well and subconsciously takes up the role of their surrogate father; even though he never calls himself that (it would no doubt deal a huge blow to the fragile relationship he has with Five). He is ridiculously protective of all the kids (which is one of the reasons Five respects him) and goes to great pains to ensure nobody upsets Vanya and no one insults Klaus’ choice of clothing or Diego’s stutter. Pepper notices, but she believes that it can be only beneficial for Tony to show some responsibility. So she orders a huge dining table into the Avengers’ Tower and starts organizing “family” dinners for all the occupants of the Tower. They don’t always go well (sometimes there's shouting or knives being thrown), but it still makes both Tony’s and Pepper’s heart swell to see all their “children” and friends around.
And that’s it for now! Feel free to add any thoughts or ideas.

Note
if (let's hope) tua gets another season, what would you like to see regarding number 5?
oh MAN uh. good question. so many things. in my wildest fanficciest dreams i want five to kind of… relearn how to be a human again? like he’s coming off 45 years of complete isolation and a few more years of the commission dehumanizing him to use him as a weapon, so he absolutely has Issues connecting to other people on any sort of substantial level, and i’d like season 2, where presumably he’ll be more directly in contact with the other hargreeveses on a relatively regular basis, to go into the process of him relearning to trust [some of] his siblings again and connecting with them as people and figuring out who he is and what he wants beyond “saving my family and also the world.” i think it’d be the easier writing choice to have him STAY isolated, to have him keep brushing his family off and having him deal with his trauma in Not Good ways because that’s what he’s used to doing, and while that’s definitely an understandable thing for him to do, again, i think it’s the easier writing choice and i want him to HEAL, GODDAMMIT, so i hope he gets to regain some of that connection and trust.
and like i’m biased, so i want that connection to primarily be with klaus, ben, and/or ESPECIALLY vanya, because i am super invested in five and vanya’s relationship and them getting the chance to help each other heal. there’s other meta out there about how he seems like he cares the most about ben and vanya, even after he gets back they’re the only sibs he talks to/about less-than-harshly, and i maintain that five is written UNBELIEVABLY out of character in episodes 9 and 10 and disregard the comments about killing vanya from my analysis because this is my post and i’m allowed. they hand him the idiot ball on so many plot points and it’s probably the most annoying part of the show for me. anyway. going back to when they’re all kids gives him the chance to make up for having left in the first place, and i think he’d want to make up for the lost time with ben once they’re both alive and in the same time. as for vanya, i think he and vanya have the most to help each other heal from: she doesn’t have any angry memories associated with him during her rampage, he wasn’t involved in locking her up, and they were both isolated and lonely for a really long time, so i think five and allison are the most likely siblings to help vanya feel like she’s part of the family again so the apocalypse doesn’t happen [which vanya also fucking deserves, but this is not a vanya post, this is a five post, so BACK TO FIVE].
as for klaus, five GETS ALONG with klaus in a way he doesn’t with diego, allison, or luther: the “nice dress” comment feels more like a genuine compliment than sarcasm to me, there’s the shot of klaus leaning on five’s shoulder after the bank robbery and five seems… pretty touchy about his personal space with everyone else, five keeps asking klaus for help with the apocalypse stuff even though klaus is nooot the best at Missions, and he’s very very concerned about klaus in the “you gonna tell me about it?” scene, both after AND BEFORE he figures out that klaus did time travel. plus klaus definitely is not wrong when he says five is addicted to the apocalypse—five definitely has an issue with fixating on something that’s very similar to addiction, so aside from them just getting along, i think they also have the potential to help each other with those issues and give each other a support system while they hash out their issues. basically i really want High Number Squad bonding in s2.
[i will say, i think there’s potential for him to connect with luther over the shared isolation experience as well [tHe MoOn] but luther is also… canonically a lot of the nasty traits i’ve seen people associating with fanon!five: he’s selfish, he’s only focused on his mission, he doesn’t actually care about his siblings beyond what they do for him and is willing to hurt them [emotionally AND physically] to get what he wants, because he’s so used to being the golden child and losing that status is worse for him than losing his relationships with his family. s1 five does want luther to think well of him, but i want five to get past that and stop seeing luther’s approval, because luther [knowingly or not] uses the fact that five cares about how luther sees him to manipulate five into doing what he wants, the same as he does to the rest of the family, and trying to get approval from someone who’s already demonstrated a willingness to use that approval as a cudgel to get what they want is a fool’s errand, so i don’t want to see five try anymore. luther has his own learning and healing to do, and as much as i don’t really like him as a character right now, i hope he gets the chance, but i have my biases and i don’t want five to get hurt any more while luther tries to heal. i’d rather five get to focus on the positive relationships it seems like he had prior to jumping to the apocalypse and the groundwork that s1 laid on top of those positive relationships. I WANT HIM TO HEAL, HE DESERVES IT.]
