Idia being autistic in Harveston Sledathon Event
I am endlessly fascinated by Idia as a character being extremely autistic, and how that plays into interactions and story.
First, the special interest plus infodumps abt said interests:

Idia struggles to communicate unless his special interest is mentioned, which in this case is Sled Over Heels. This is SUPER relatable. Autistic ppl may struggle with small talk unless its involving our special interest, resulting in infodumps that surprise nt folks.
Later on, we get references to food sensitivity:

Idia prefers his fruit to be a certain way, suggesting he struggles with taste or texture.

I'm not sure what else you could call his tablet. Idia uses it frequently, often when he's overwhelmed. Sebek is a loud, intense guy, which probably means Idia has a harder time communicating with him.
Later on, during the welcome party, we see Idia struggle with social anxiety, as well as an aversion to noise and crowds:

He then goes into a corner to escape the crowd and noise, unable to enjoy himself because of this. He's been thrust into something he didn't plan for, which can have a disastrous effect on auristic ppl.

Everyone else is confused by his behavior, since it implies that he's ungrateful for the kindness the Harveston people have given him.

Later on Epel tries to help Idia by asking if he's cold, which is not the issue. He's using his tablet, which shows that he's become overwhelmed and possibly dealing with a verbal shutdown. The party came "out of nowhere" and it caused him to struggle.
While Idia struggled a bit during the trip, it was really cool to see him getting excited about his special interest! It was also relatable to see how the other characters are just sort of confused by his passion for Sled Over Heels. I have had that happen to me countless times.
I enjoy seeing Idia as an autistic coded character because he feels realistic. While his special interest in tech makes him skilled, he has a lot of interests that are more "pointless," which is neat! His autism seems like it legitimately is a disability for him, and we see him deal with it without being infantilized. Idk i just love him

Clinic duty was never enjoyable for House. It was really just a slew of NPC’s for him to verbally abuse until someone showed something interesting. A weird rash, an inexplicably high fever, or, in your case, a discrepancy in your suspected genital anatomy.
“This… says you have a birth control implant. So either someone fatfingered your actual prescription on the computer, or—“
“It’s… accurate.” You replied sheepishly, lifting your arm to highlight its location. “I actually do have one.”
The doctor looked perplexed, almost angrily so. Like you’d just spat in his face and dared him to call your bluff. He aggressively limped towards you and gripped your arm entirely too hard. With his other hand, his two fingers prodded around for the implant until he got it.
“Well!” He scoffed, rolling the stick underneath your skin, pressing on either edge to seesaw it within you. “Thank god you’re not reproducing. Imagine some poor preschooler having to bring your fruity little ass in for Mother’s Day. Kid would get turbo-bullied on the playground. Good on you for being responsible.”
He hobbled back over to the computer to return to your file, leaving you stunned, speechless, and sputtering. What is this guy’s fucking problem? What in the actual ever-loving fuck did he just say to you? And why was it... kinda hot, in all honesty?
“Ah, there it is. Testosterone cypionate. Jumped the gun on that one. If only I had scrolled down. Alphabetization makes fools of us all…” He continued reading the details of your dosage. “0.6 milliliters biweekly, self-administered intramuscular injections. Ooh, so you’re a masochist too.”
Your reaction was an unfortunate reflex, on par with if he’d tapped your knee with that dinky little hammer, only much more embarrassing. You had no chance of stopping the pathetic whine that escaped your vocal cords. “Mm~!” You gasped, then coughed, hoping to sufficiently cover the sound, and shouted, “What?! N-No, no I’m not!”
“Oh, please, you are not a good liar.” House tapped his cane on the exam table, right between your legs. Not touching you, not even close. He just wanted to imply that he could. “To administer a masculinizing dose of testosterone in patients assigned female at birth, they can either self-inject, or they can rub themselves with what’s essentially lotion. So why would you choose stabbing yourself in the leg unless you want to stab yourself in the leg? And why would you want to stab yourself in the leg? Because you’re a pain slut. Am I wrong?”
No. No, he was not. Well, that isn't why you chose injections, but you were a pain slut. Of course, you didn’t wanna admit that to him. That’d just make you even more pathetic. Oh well, it’s not like you needed to say anything anyway. The mortified look on your face was proof enough.
“So! What brings you in today? Bruised butt-cheeks from your Daddy taking you over his knee too hard?”
You rolled your eyes at his snarky comment, trying to stick up for yourself and what little shreds of dignity you had left. “My STD test results.”
“Oh, sure. Figures you would need to know that. Can’t have Typhoid Mary taking backshots at the circuit party. What types of sex are you having?”
Used to these questions every time you get tested, you rattled them off nonchalantly. “Vaginal, oral, and anal.”
“Not letting anything go to waste, huh? I like it. How many sexual partners do you have currently?”
Wait a minute. You just needed to hear the results. What’s this guy doing? “Uh… didn’t the nurse already ask me these questions?”
“I’m sure someone did. I just want to hear you answer them.”
You crossed your arms and stared straight through him, silently, baring an expression that sufficiently said cut the shit without the need for any verbal assistance.
Dr. House pouted. “You’re no fun.” He opened the folder he had came in with, what he was initially supposed to give you. He had just been dilly-dallying to kill time. “All negative. You’re clean. Well, in this one aspect, you’re clean. Morally, you’re about the furthest thing from it.” Again, he smacked his cane on the table, in between your legs, this time in rhythm. “Just. My. Type.”
You squirmed, trying to shimmy backwards away from his cane. You cast your eyes downward, obscuring the profuse blush on your face. He didn’t need to know that he was getting to you. Still, it was flattering. You cleared your throat. “Uh… Thank you? I guess?”
“You’re welcome. Oh, and one more thing. I saw that your chart lists recreational ketamine usage. Is that true?”
“Yeah, actually. Why do you ask? Are you gonna tell me to quit?”
“Ugh, please. I’m a doctor, not a narc. Here, watch.” Dr. House reached into his pocket and took out a jar of pills. He opened it, poured a ridiculous amount of pills into his palm, and dry swallowed them. “See? Now we’re both junkies! But, you do have a point. It’s my Hippocratic duty to look out for my patients’ well-being. The street supply of ketamine can be mixed with dangerous additives like fentanyl or crack, which would put you at risk for overdosing. You want a scrip for the good shit?”
Oh? On god? Ethics and potential felony charges be damned. The weirdly hot doctor wants to hook you up with substances? Weapons grade ketamine? You’d be an idiot to pass it up. “Oh! Sure, thank you!”
“It does come with a pretty hefty co-pay though.”
“Oh…” Your face dropped. “How much?”
“Bend over.”
“Ahhh, modern medicine is amazing, isn’t it?”
Dr. House sighed in pleasure as he rutted into you from behind. Your legs were cramping, held apart in an awkward position. Your arms were cold against the metal slab of the table, and so was your face, buried within them to cover your shame and soundproof your moans. Apparently, that “copay" he mentioned was just a euphemism. Some dumb excuse to get you to trade pussy for premium drugs. And you were dumb enough to do it. Just his lucky day. Keep your face down, keep your mouth shut, and just let him use you. The high will be well worth it.
"Hey, faggot," He spat, and yanked you up out of the darkness by your hair. Your eyes stung, shocked by the fluorescent clinic lighting. "I'm talking to you. Are you always this rude to everyone who fucks you?"
"S-Sor—Sorry! I'm sor—fuck! Fuck!"
"Shut the fuck up, whore," House clamped his hand over your mouth, holding you even tighter against him. You couldn't move, you couldn't speak. Your only function was getting him off. "If we get caught, you don't get your ket. Now, mmm, fuck yeah, tell me... Isn't modern medicine amazing?"
Without the ability to verbally agree, you nodded.
"Do you know why I'm saying it's amazing?"
You shook your head.
He chuckled devilishly before growling in your ear,
"Because I can blow my load in a tight little tranny boy's cunt without worrying about knocking him up."

the door slams open, the sound reverberating through the apartment like a gunshot. murder stumbles in, face flushed purple, a stagger in his walk. he smells of booze and fire. his jacket is torn, some parts charred. and yet, there’s a manic look on his face when he stares into the eyes of horror and killer, who are rushing to the hallway to see what the commotion is about.
“what the-” horror says, his voice sharp, his eyes narrowed. “murder, what the hell did you do now?”
murder lets out a sharp, humorless laugh, throwing his jacket on the floor with more force than necessary. “what the hell did i do?” he echoes, his tone wild and shaky. “i survived, horror. barely. isn’t that what you wanted?” his gaze darts from horror to killer, who leans against the wall all nonchalant. “for me to barely keep living while you both stand there and watch the show?”
killer looks murder up and down, his mouth curved downwards. “you’re drunk,” he says flatly. “and stupid, apparently.”
“yeah? and you’re an unfeeling statue,” murder snaps, his voice rising as he points a finger at killer. “you always sit there on the sidelines, watching, like none of this matters. like i don’t matter.”
horror steps forward, placing himself between them. turning to murder, he says, “ok, you need to calm down. you’re going to hurt yourself.”
“oh, i already tried that.” murder’s words come out bitterly, his lips curling into a manic grin. “almost drove myself off the cliff. you should’ve seen it – it was spectacular.”
horror scowls. “that’s not funny, murder.”
“what? so making jokes about killing others is fine, but you draw the line at my attempt to off myself?” murder spits, his bi-colored eyes blazing and wild. “maybe i should do this more if this is the only way to make you care!”
“we do care!” horror says quickly, the words coming too fast. “i care, okay? you don’t have to throw that in my face every time something goes wrong.”
murder laughs, a sharp and broken sound. “that’s rich coming from you. you’re so good at tearing me apart with your words, but the second i need you to actually be there, you disappear.”
“what?” horror clenches his fists, his soft tone swiftly gone. “why do think that’s the case, huh? i can barely breathe around you without you demanding more, like i’m some kind of bottomless pit.”
“because you never give me anything!” murder screams, leaning into horror’s space, his chest heaving. his eyes brim with tears of frustration. “i am drowning, horror! i am bleeding out for you, and all you give me is venom instead of a cure! what the hell do you even want from me?!”
“i want you to stop acting like you’re the only hurt one here!” horror’s voice booms in the cramp space. for a moment, the apartment feels like it might collapse under the weight of their shouting. “you think it’s easy for me?! to care about someone like you?! someone who’s all or nothing, who’s willing to break your own arm just to make a point?!”
“i wouldn’t have to hurt myself if you’d meet me halfway!” murder shouts back, his voice cracking. “i’d die for you, sans. for both of you. and all i get is this- this emptiness!”
horror flinches, his jaw tightening as his glare softens for just a moment. he looks away from murder’s fiery gaze. “i’ve never asked you to kill yourself for us. but,” he squints at murder’s slightly smaller form, “you don’t know how to do anything else, do you?”
killer sighs, finally stepping forward. “maybe if you both stopped shouting long enough to say what you need, this wouldn’t be a disaster.”
murder whirls on him in an instant, laughing bitterly. “oh, great. killer, the voice of reason. except, you never do a damn thing to help!”
“i’m not the one constantly crashing out and sleeping around just because i can’t handle my emotions,” killer replies coolly, his arms crossed in front of his chest.
“angel, you’re both impossible!” murder screams, his hands holding his skull as if he wants to break it apart. “do you even want this?! do you even care – either of you?!”
horror hesitates, his mouth opening and closing like he wants to say something but unable to. killer, as always, is the first to answer.
“i care enough to stay,” killer says, his tone even and detached. “that’s more than you give me credit for.”
“that’s not enough!” murder screams, tears spilled over. he shrinks into himself, his body trembling with the force of his sobs. “i can’t be the only one who feels this! i can’t be the only one who cries, who loves, who bleeds in this forsaken relationship!”
horror steps forward hesitantly, his hand twitching but not daring to touch the vibrating ball that is murder. “sans…” he starts, his voice softening. “i… i don’t know how to fix this.”
“then why are we even doing this?” murder whispers, his voice full of anguish and desperation. he looks up at both of them with his tear-streaked face. “why do i even love you when it’s killing me?”
neither of them answers. the silence blankets all of them, heavy and suffocating.
after a while, murder wipes at his face, breaking the fragile quiet. “it doesn’t matter, does it…? this is all i deserve. all i’ll ever have, like you said.” he laughs, a manic sound. “stars, i just wish…” he hiccups, as another sob threatens to tear through his vocal cords again. “i just wish you’d cry for me. just once. just like i do for you.”
horror looks away, gritting his teeth, while killer stares down at murder, face unreadable. and murder realizes, with a sinking feeling in his nonexistent stomach, that they never will.

Consultation
Doctor’s Notes - Upon initial assessment, [Blacked Out] presents as a well-spoken man with a firm grasp on reality. Patient 34 years old. Married for 2 years. Wife 4 months pregnant.
Denies necessity of psychological treatment, but has kept appointment at the request of his wife, who insisted on visitation due to a concern over growing isolationistic [sic] tendencies.
Patient displays high degree of verbal acuity and is very observant. Initial tests suggest a high IQ, with an extraordinary ability to recall facts. [Blacked Out] expressed pride at his intelligence and knowledge. Exhibits need to point out the weaknesses in others. Insists the behavioral changes are that of his wife who “no longer understands” him.
Patient is polite and cordial, but non-compliant. Seems to take pleasure in obfuscating answers and attempting to trick questioner. Patient’s demeanor is calm and controlled. Shows disconnect with the emotions of other individuals and general lack of empathy towards humanity. Verbally expresses affection for his expectant wife and child, but does not outwardly display so when discussing them.

Doctor’s Notes [Blacked Out] continues to show up to appointments despite questioning need for psychiatric treatment. States that he “knows more about medicine and the mind” than any of the staff. Mocks staff credentials and is often uncommunicative during therapy. Claims traditional psychiatric medicine fails patients by not offering them “real choices.”
Patient displays familiarity with psychological/psychiatric language. Patient states that he is well aware of own childhood history and its potential psychological ramifications. Describes authoritarian, punitive father and absent, passive mother. Insists that his superior intelligence and self-control make childhood history of physical, mental and verbal abuse unimportant.
Patient denies history of his own violent and impulsive behavior, citing memory lapses. Our conversations reveal the [sic] [Blacked Out] often manipulates others for his own amusement. Patient shows no remorse at negative effects his behavior has on other people. Views others as objects/pawns.

When asked about metacarpal bruising, [Blacked Out] denied bruising and became violent, interrogating me about my bedside manner. Doctors make the worst patients.

idk i’m really thinking about autistic mute regulus today. mute regulus who can say a few words as a child but loses the ability as he experiences more trauma. mute regulus who has always been shunned by the cult they were raised in, whether it be the purebloods and death eaters or a religious au, because they cannot vow their loyalty to the rest of the group and are viewed as a sour omen — a child marked by the devil. who experiences not just verbal mutism but mutism in regards to sign and written word as well, unable to communicate through sign language even when it’s her only option. worst case scenario, trauma-related increased mutism triggers catatonia. her total-body communication shutdown can last for months if he isn’t careful. slowly but surely, he is able to heal and reach a point where sign is always available to him + he is comfortable with his mutism and the mute community, but the trauma lingers. it shakes their hands as they sign. the cult was not just a cult of death eaters or religion or brainwashing, but a cult of silence, and they have been trapped in that silence since he was born.
eventually, his mutism as a result of autism does not feel like a trap, but a comfort. a sense of safety. a solace. however, its worsened intensity will always feel like a burden. a curse.

The sun beamed through every window in the house. Summer was in full spring, not a drop of rain in the sky. The air conditioner was fighting for its life during this harsh summer day. As the days grew hotter, you and Jake opted for little to no clothes and freezing cold drinks. Insecurities were non existent when the weather was nearing a hundred degrees.
Jake had been living in this house, way before you came along. You always joked with Jake saying, you only agreed to date him because he had a pool. Once you had moved in with Jake, you spent at least eighty percent of your time in the pool.
So, when you checked the weather this morning and found out the temperature would be well over ninety, you decided to make it a pool day. Jake hasn’t been home a whole lot in the past year, enough to enjoy the pool to the same extent as you. He had practically jumped out of the bed when you had suggested a pool day together.
“How about I cut some fruit to eat and you make us drinks?” you ask.
Not bothering to give you a verbal reply, Jake salutes you and walks toward the kitchen to get started. Laughing at his childish attitude, you scurry to your shared closet looking for a bathing suit.
You normally wore your one piece suit, mostly because when you used the pool it was just you and you swam for hours. But, since Jake was spending the day by the pool with you, you decided to wear a cute little floral bikini. He had bought you this swimsuit last summer, claiming you always wore the same one and he wanted to make sure you had more than one to choose from. You wanted to look nice for him, also knowing Jake well enough to know he would be taking pictures of you all afternoon. He insists that being your photographer is his favorite pastime.
Pulling on a t-shirt over your swimsuit, you trot out into the kitchen to start cutting the fruit. Walking over to Jake, you peer over his shoulder trying to get a good look at what he’s doing. Without even looking at you, Jake allows a small smirk to grace his face due to your presence. “Whatcha doing, sweet girl?”
Wrapping your arms around his waist, you nuzzle your face into his back.
“Just checking on you. Are you going to change into your shorts before you come out to the pool?”
“Yeah, do you want to go ahead and start on the fruit while I change?”
You nod, lifting your head from his back to allow him to move. “I’ll cut it up and then put it in the fridge. When you get done, just bring it out with you.”
“Mkay.”
Jake sets down the cups, gently removing your arms from his waist. He gives you a quick forehead kiss and scooches past you, heading to your bedroom.
Getting to work on the fruit, you quietly hum a tune Jake had put on in the car the other day. Watermelon, strawberries, and peaches were all diced and sliced perfectly, after what felt like forever. You put them all into a container, placing them inside the fridge.
Pulling out your essential pool supplies, you make a list of all the things you need. Towels, sunscreen, speaker, and sunglasses are all you can think of, leaving the rest up to Jake in case you forgot anything.
Slipping on your sunglasses and sandals, you head out to the backyard. You ‘gracefully’ carry all the supplies outside, setting them on your lawn chair. Not able to wait for Jake to come outside, you rip off your shirt and tiptoe to the pool. Instead of starting the music on the speaker, you let Jake have the reins to the music playing this evening.
Practically launching yourself into the pool, you couldn’t help but groan in relief of the cold water. The hot sun may have been beating down on you moments ago, but underneath the water you feel cool at last.
Finally popping your head out of the water, needing to catch your breath, you spot Jake making his way out of the back door. His smile was wide, fully expecting you to already be in the pool. Shaking the drink in his hand, Jake motions for you to get out for a minute. You rush up the stairs and out of the pool, making your way to Jake. “Here's your drink, madam.”
Grabbing the cup out of his hand, you take a sip out of the fruity drink he made. Humming in satisfaction, you lick the remaining liquid off your lips.
“So good, hun. Thank you. Do you need help carrying out the snacks?”
“No, I've got it. Give me one second, I’ll go grab it real quick.”
Watching Jake jog back inside, you take a seat in your chair. The sun heats your face, causing the drink in your hand to sweat. Seconds later, Jake appears back outside, fruit in hand. He takes a seat next to you, plucking the treats out of the bowl and handing it to you. Giving him a grateful smile, you lean over closer toward him.
“You wanna put some music on? The speaker should be over there, close to you.”
Reaching down towards the ground, Jake retrieves the tiny speaker. “Do you have any preferences for what we listen to?”
“That's up to you, love. I figured I'd let you DJ this afternoon.”
“Well how sweet of you. Finish up that fruit and you can get back in the pool.”
Scoffing at his words, you say, “Okay Mom.”
He giggles at your words, a smile wide on his face.
The two of you finish up some fruit and your drinks, while chatting mindlessly about anything and everything. The band has been super busy with work lately, but they were granted a few vacation days in the next week or two. You had suggested to Jake that y’all should throw a pool party soon. Keeping the number of guests to a minimum, you and Jake love hosting parties, but hate too many people. Thank god y’alls friend group was plenty small. Jake finally gets the music started, loud enough where you can hear it throughout the backyard, but not loud enough to not hear each other talk. You get up, wanting to return to the pool.
That is until you hear a whistle leave Jake’s mouth.
Spinning around, you find him scanning your body. You look over your sunglasses at him.
“What?”
“That's the swimsuit I bought you.”
You allow a small smile to grace your face. “It is.”
“You look very pretty.”
“Oh, thank you, Jakey.”
A blush managed to crept up, not just on your face, but on his as well.
Jake makes a move to come closer to you, but you back away from him. His eyebrows furrowed in confusion at your reaction.
“Where are you going?”
“I’m going to get in the pool. I’m pretty sure you said I could get in once I finished my treat, and it looks like I’m done. You can join me if you’d like.” you say, looking over your shoulder at him. He groans in response, watching you strut your way into the pool.
“You're going to kill me, woman.”
You laugh at his dramatics, signaling for him to get in with you. It doesn’t take much to turn Jake into a puddle of mush, especially if it's coming from the woman he loves most.
Throwing back the rest of his drink, Jake runs, jumping into the deep end. He can hear you cackling as the water consumes him. Coming up to the surface, he swims to the shallow end in search of you.
Jake finds you floating on your back, soaking in the warmth of the sun. He can’t help but smile at your glowing face. Scolding himself for not carrying his phone close enough to the pool, so he could take a picture of you.
He scoops your body into his arms, letting you drape into the water. Flinching at his unexpected touch, you open your eyes to look up at him, but find the sun too bright to see. Jake shields your face, in order for you to properly glance at him. Two carefree smiles, sat upon both of your faces.
“Wanna see who can hold their breath the longest?” you challenge.
“Last time we did this, you got mad because I won.” “No, I got mad because you cheated.”
“Uhuh, whatever makes you feel better sweetheart.” You swat at his shoulder, flopping out of his arms.
The two of you play around in the pool for quite a while, long enough for the sun to start setting. Jake slings his body against yours, swaying you back and forth in the water. He hums along to John Denevers “Let It Be”, which pours out of the speaker. Your hands find home within his hair, gently combing out all the tangles and knots.
Your noticeable shivers are what pulls Jake out of his thoughts. His hands run up and down your arms, trying to create some warmth for you. Smiling at his sweet attempt, you twist around in his hold, looking up at him. Caressing the side of his face, you lean up, pecking kisses along his jaw. He closes his eyes at the sensation, allowing his thoughts to be about you, and only you.
“You're chilly, love. Are you ready to head inside?” Jake questions quietly, not wanting to let go of you yet.
“Sure thing.” You continue your attack on his face, not making a move to leave the pool. He all but purrs at your vigorous kisses, but when he feels you shiver again, he pulls you away.
Tucking your wet hair behind your ear, Jake grins at you. The setting sun allows a golden glow to cast upon his face, illuminating his beauty even further.
“Honey, I think it’s time to go in.”
You groan in protest, not entirely ready to leave the pool yet, despite the obvious cold and pruning your body is currently going through.
“How about we compromise?”
“I’m listening.”
“We can take a nice warm shower. I’ll order us some takeout and I'll even throw in a song or two.”
You watch him suspiciously. He continues to wiggle his eyebrows at you, trying to get you to agree.
“Will you wash my hair for me?”
“I sure will.”
“And, you’ll sing the songs for me too. Not just play them on the guitar.”
He lets his eyes wonder, thinking it over.
“Deal.”
“Take me inside, Jakey.”
He makes for the stairs of the pool, holding his hand out to you. Eagerly reaching for his hand, you allow him to tug you along with him out of the pool.
Reaching your lawn chairs, the two of you start to gather your things. Jake wraps your towel around your shoulders, while trying to juggle all of the bowls and glasses. You start to grab all your pool supplies, but he stops you.
“Don’t worry about that. I’ll come back out later and bring all that stuff in. Let’s go warm you up in the shower, sweet girl.”
Your smile reaches your eyes, causing them to crinkle. Grinning back at you, he pats your bottom, pushing you forward towards the back door.
Padding up the patio, you remember a part of the deal you forgot to mention to Jake.
“Hey, Jake.”
He hums in question.
“Can I kiss you some more in the shower?”
Jake laughs at your question, never one to say no to you. “Only if we can move it to the couch afterwards.”
“Deal.”
Reaching the back door, Jake swings it open with his hip. Without you paying attention, he sweeps you off your feet and into his arms. You squeal in reaction, begging to be put down.
Letting the door close behind him, Jake carries you to your shared bathroom, while starting his own attack on your face, leaving kisses on your sunkissed skin.
Pushing at his face, trying to put a stop to his wrath. You manage to get him to pull away, only for a second.
“My favorite girl. I love you.”
You nuzzle your face into his chest.
“I love you too, Jakey.”
He resumes his reign of terror right up until you reach the shower. Jake reluctantly sets you down on your feet, but doesn’t allow you to get too far away.
Jake keeps you close not just through the shower, but the rest of the night and throughout the following morning. He would rather spend all day getting sunburnt with you, than be anywhere else without you.

A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)
Victor can be as affective as your heart desires him to be. Being a cowboy also includes being a gentleman, and he wants to show he's the right man for you. Victor is more used to show his love by words of affection and being protective, as these are the easiest options for him and also the ones he claims to be professional with. The securitron do wishes he could show more phisical affection, but he's afraid with a body as bulky and hard as his, it wont do much besides somes hugs, so its better for you to show all the phisical attention.
B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)
Your friendship with Victor would start right after you enter the Strip, that if you have some time left for some talk and even some rounds of blackjack, in which he's very skilled at. And you both would have even more free time after House win the hoover dam battle.
C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)
Because of his model, Victor is afraid you are going to feel uncomfortable during cuddling, but if you're willing to, sure, he would feel flattered. In moment, Victor would attempt wrapping one of his arms around your waist, bringing you closer to him.
D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)
The idea of having a calm and sweet domestic life with you is comforting for the robot, and he will make the effort to bring this feeling to you at the Lucky 38. As a cowboy, Victor does knows a few culinary tricks, but nothing out of the ordinary or extraordinary, its the basic of the basics in gastronomy.
E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)
Victor would wait for the right time for both of you and then tell you everything. He would be direct, but also trying to not keep the scene harsh, constantly reassuring you that you two can continue to be friends.
F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)
Victor never thought that much about weddings, or that he would ever marry someone, so he doesnt have a much strong opinion about it. Victor won't rush you, of course, but if you did propose for him in the right time of your relationship, he would accept right away!
G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)
Victor is extra gentle with you due to his securitron model, every movement with you are made with extra delicacy for you and only you to prevent any discomfort or injuries. His claws always caressing your shoulder in a flimsy, yet firm movement.
H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)
He loves hugs! Victor deeply love any any type of phisical affection coming from you. He just struggles when its him perfoming them. But trust me, he loooves them.
I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)
Victor is far more used with perform his acts of affection to you(protection and being verbal) as a way to say his "I love you" to you, and hes not accustomed with PDA. So hes more comfortable with using the phrase when hes alone with you, or when youre talking with only him.
J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)
Victor only gets clearly stressy when someone is obviously hitting on you, in that case, the cowboy grinds his teeth and makes subtle movements that imply the relationship between you two. He adds one of his arm around your waist, uses more romantic nicknames than usual, and repeatedly mentions the fact both of you are dating during dialogues, this while a blatant gaze is pointed at the person in question.
Victor trusts you, so when you are the person causing all this jealousy with someone else, he takes it way less seriously. He does feels the sentiment deep down, but he rather joke about it, as I mentioned, he trusts you. Unless its actually getting very suspect, then he will push you to a talk.
K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)
He LOVES to be kissed by you in his screen. You press your lips against Victor's screen and you experience the same staticky feeling everytime while his strong arms push you closer. He absolutly loves to (attempt) kiss your face and any part of it, and the same goes for him. If not your face, then perhaps, if he could, your neck.
L = Little ones (How are they around children?)
Some kids are afraid of Victor, the others really enjoy him! Its just the cheerful cowboy personality that attracts the children. Victor doesn't mind, he likes to show them tricks and teach them small things while also being a jokester to them. With that being said, hes pretty good with children!
He never really thought about the idea of him being a father, tho, it gives him a good feeling, but he would definetly question you if you really want to have a family with him, a securitron, or if even House would allow it. In the end, if everything goes okay with House and you fully convince him that you really wants him to be the father, he would feel more than flattered... For a good while Victor will be all soft towards you and call you all the names that one can imagine.
M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)
Victor always arrives in the right time if he's not busy with some work coming from House. He bids you a "g'mornin'", and waits for you to get ready for the day, or rushes you, if you have any appointment for the day. Sometimes, if hes feeling extra, he even brings breakfast for you.
N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)
If you do want to sleep with Victor right next to you, laying by your side in your bed, that would be...difficult. So mostly, when sleeping in the Lucky 38, Victor prefers to stay by the side of your bed, still counts as company and he is right next to you!! If you prefer, he even offers his arm for you to hold.
In other times, where both of you arent in the Lucky, and rather out in the wasteland, when you sleep in the ground, it would be far more easy for Victor to lay in the ground with you! But he still prefers to stay up, getting up from the ground is difficult for a securitron, and he wants to keep you safe while both are out.
O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)
Theres not much Victor have to hidden, due to his amnesia(more likely caused by House). So you pretty much know everything about him already, and he would love to expand his historic with you.
P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)
Victor is a happy folk, but that could easily change with any threat towards you or him.
Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)
Victor is a securitron, so excluding his amnesia about himself, he can remember several things about you! Birthday, favorite food, favorite book, weapon, flowers, little details of your backstory, pretty much anything!
R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)
Victor adores the moments where both of you are out in the wastelands, alone, while youre laying next to him in the middle of the night. Its peaceful, no gunshots or anything of that except for the radio. A small moment Victor finds himself craving more.
S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)
Can be very protective to any threat towards you or any ally and isnt afraid of making a mess, unless demanded to not.
T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)
Victor got quickly used to perform everyday tasks for you sake, he even finds himself enjoying it, nothing more than his responsability. But when it comes to special dates, he adds some extra effort(with some help with Jane, too). Dates arent going to be perfect, of course, but he makes sure to make it charming for both of you, he cooks and prepare everything at Lucky 38 for you and you only.
U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)
As I said, protective, sometimes a little too much. Without any warning Victor could be already poiting one of his weapons to anyone slightly suspicious or threatening to you. Hes already naturally protective, when hes with you it gets extra.
V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)
Theres not much Victor worry about, hes a securitron. And deep down, he enjoys the dust and scratches in his metal, makes him feel truly like a dusty cowboy.
W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)
Victor wont feel like a disaster, nor he ever felt before dating you, but will certainly miss you. You just made things more exciting and bright, yknow? But in the end, he agrees if youre happy somewhere else, or with someone else, hes happy too.
X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)
Victor is always using a cowboy hat over his antenna, it spins like crazy, yeah, but makes him feel different and more original than the others securitrons. I also hc him as bisexual
Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?)
Debauched people or/and pure cowards, it bugs the securitron a lot, and makes him wonder if he can trust someone like you. Victor enjoys actions some time or other and having a honest partner. Not choosing violent is something, running away from it is another.
Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habits of theirs?)
He can't sleep! The most Victor can do is shut down.

A CRITIQUE OF OMORI, PART 6: UNORIGINALITY

This is more of a "bonus" post. It is not as important as the other five posts before it and is more of a rant than anything.
Even though just calling OMORI "another quirky Earthbound-inspired RPG about depression" would be rather reductive, OMORI is painfully derivative at its core. For a game renowned for pushing the envelope for what indie RPGs can do, it's actually rather unimpressive. In terms of story, the game it bears the most resemblance to is - surprisingly enough - Silent Hill 2, with the similarities being... suspicious.
The male protagonist (James; Sunny) kills his female loved one (Mary; Mari), represses the memory of doing so and convinces himself she's still alive (James comes to Silent Hill in hopes of finding Mary after allegedly receiving a letter from her; Sunny conjures an imaginary fantasyland where Mari is still alive). The only major difference is that James killed Mary consciously while Sunny killed Mari accidentally.
Tying into the previous point, OMORI establishes that Mari died 4 years ago prior to the events of the game because of an external circumstance Sunny had no control over (suicide) to hide the fact that Sunny killed her, exactly the same way SH2 establishes that Mary died 3 years ago prior to the events of the game due to an external circumstance James had no control over (terminal illness) to hide the fact that James killed her.
As the screenshots at the top of the post show, both James and Sunny are established as generally reticent characters who don't outwardly emote much but are described by other characters (Mary in James' case, Sunny's friends in Sunny's case) as kind and sweet.
Silent Hill 2's Mary is James' kind, gentle and seemingly perfect wife who used to play the piano and dearly loved her husband; near the end of the game, it is implied that she verbally abused James during her final days, with said abuse partially being the reason he killed her. Similarly, OMORI's Mari is Sunny's kind, gentle and seemingly perfect older sister who used to play the piano and dearly loved her younger brother; near the end of the game, it is revealed that she harshly berated Sunny, with said upbraiding partially being the reason Sunny shoved her down the stairs.
Furthermore, inspecting the piano in the Lakeview Hotel has James briefly reminisce that he loved to hear Mary play the piano even though she wasn't very good at it; during the final memory of Memory Lane, Basil mentions that Sunny always sits in the room with Mari while she's practicing the piano.

The plot of Silent Hill 2 focuses on James' surreal trek through the town as his subconscious (represented via the Otherworld, Pyramid Head and the monsters) tries to get him to face the fact that he committed a murder. Similarly, the plot of OMORI focuses on Sunny's surreal trek through his imaginary fantasyland as his subconscious (represented via Black Space, Stranger, Something and its variants) tries to get him to face the fact that he committed manslaughter.
The recurring fog in Headspace represents the lack of mental clarity, as the game itself spells out to you. Do I even need to say anything here?

The main antagonistic forces of Silent Hill 2 are the symbolic embodiment of James' guilt that also serves as a constant reminder of his wrongdoing (Pyramid Head) and the personification of James' wish-fulfillment delusions that is meant to distract him from learning the truth (Maria). Similarly, the main antagonistic forces of OMORI are the symbolic embodiment of Sunny's guilt that also serves as a constant reminder of his wrongdoing (Something) and the personification of Sunny's wish-fulfillment delusions that is meant to prevent him from learning the truth (Omori)

Both James and Sunny/Omori are forced to descend into an eldritch location representing their subconscious - the Labyrinth and Black Space respectively - in the second half of their respective games. OMORI even has you enter Black Space by jumping through a hole in the floor!

The revelation that Sunny killed Mari directly precedes OMORI's penultimate boss fight against Basil, just like the revelation that James killed Mary precedes Silent Hill 2's penultimate boss fight against the twin Pyramid Heads. Additionally, the Truth segment's long walk to the tree where the final photo lies is reminiscent of the long hallway James has to go through before confronting the final boss.
Silent Hill 2's "Maria" ending shows James ultimately embracing his delusions by accepting Maria as Mary's replacement to avoid facing up to his guilt; similarly, the ending of OMORI's Hikikomori route shows Sunny embracing his delusions to avoid facing up to his guilt by staying in Headspace forever.
Of course, to insinuate Omocat stole Silent Hill 2's entire plot would be too absurd of an accusation, but the similarities were too glaring for me to ignore. Make of them what you will.
Silent Hill 2 isn't the only game OMORI heavily resembles. Aside from the very obvious "inspiration" the game takes from Yume Nikki, many of the things this game tries to do have been already done in some form (oftentimes better) by other indie RPGs and video games in general that were released before it.
Headspace is Earthbound's Magicant made into a whole game. The major difference is that Magicant is actually relevant to the story in both of the games it's featured in. By the way, don't Daddy Longlegs' appearance and his function in the plot seem strikingly familiar?
Omori stands down and vanishes at the end of the final boss fight after Sunny plays the recital he and Mari were meant to play, just like Giegue stands down and calls off the invasion of Earth after Ninten and his team sing the lullaby his adoptive mother, Maria, used to sing to him during the climax of Earthbound Beginnings.
OFF and Ib have already featured hand-drawn aesthetics all the way back in 2008 and 2012 respectively; in Ib, it also was a crucial part of the story and the gameplay instead of simply being an aesthetic choice.
Something and the variants of it you fight throughout the game seem to be made out of clay, an aesthetic choice the two Hylics games have already featured.
Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass has already featured the exact same "kid uses sugar-coated dream world to cope with hardship in his life" general premise, the hardship in question being terminal cancer in Jimmy's case. It also had Jimmy fight his fears, heights and spiders included. The final boss, the Pulsating Mass itself, tries to break Jimmy by taking the appearance of his family and verbally abusing him, with Jimmy getting the special "Heartbroken" status effect, just like Omori tries to break Sunny by reminding him that his friends loved Mari and he killed her while inflicting the special "Afraid" emotion on him. On top of that, JatPM features Jimmy facing off against the personification of his self-loathing too!
The LISA games have already featured OMORI's initial premise of "brother grieves his sister's suicide and has to deal with his own severe mental issues along the way". The major difference is that Lisa's suicide is a suicide caused by her father's sexual abuse instead of being a contrived cover-up planned and executed by a 12-year-old.
Truth be told, I'd have been genuinely glad to overlook such minutiae if the game's story was actually compelling or gripping. It isn't.
OMORI's story fails to be complex and compelling for a multitude of reasons. The main protagonist is dull, doesn't have much impact on the plot and comes off as more unpleasant than intended, the main characters in general are fleshed out poorly and their personalities are spelled out to the player multiple times rather than shown, the supposedly soul-crushing plot twist makes no sense under scrutiny, and the game is rife with unfortunate implications regarding the topic of mental illness, which it relies on to make the plot interesting. The emotions OMORI tries to evoke don't feel earned either, and come off as more of a "smokescreen" to divert the player's attention from the plot's lack of substance.
After all, in this game, the Feels are always more of a priority than the Reals.

Ok this is something ive vaguely wondered about for a long time and never known how to broach cos im sure most people will say it's Just Fantasy. i see this somno idea presented in extreme ways and more casual, like this one you mentioned. im curious about it because my initial reaction on seeing this hc was - is this based on people's real experiences, or fantasies alone, or just hcs for the boys/fictional characters? or all? because issues of consent become a bit grey here. maybe im just thinking of women's experiences and how women's discomfort can be minimized in pop culture. perhaps its different in your experience, as a gay man or in gay culture.
i kind of get icky when i see people throwing the need for constant blatant verbal consent around because post-weinstein we've lost a lot of the sexiness and complicity of non-verbal communication and consent in sex. but my brain always thinks of those cases where the guy doesnt think its even possible to rape a girl if theyre married or in a relationship. so anything goes, and yes and no blur. ofc mike and will are in a loving relationship, but what happens if one of them wakes up and feels a bit weird about it, totally not in the mood or just had a totally different sleep experience and is thrown for a loop because the other has a mouth around them? would they always be able to recover and just say no and separate (physically) and be fine? im not sure.

This is a good one and I wondered if the question would ever come up because I know it's a controversial sex act / kink! Definitely onto something with some of it being in the realm of fantasy - but it is realistic for a lot of people as well. I'll offer my own perspective under the cut at the end like I usually do when I get too embarrassingly tmi/personal haha. But it's hard to explain this particular one without a real life perspective.
The consent aspect is a big part and one that's incredibly important in real life - but I'll personally admit when it comes to fanfic or just a simple HC post, there are certain aspects of fictional sex lives I just choose to gloss over and/or leave out. Because it is a bit of a fantasy world and a lot of assumptions are made. (Do yall know how many asks I get requesting details and preferences on the intricacies of anal sex prep? Yall. Suspension of disbelief. There's so many advice and sexual health articles out there to read up on if you're so curious, it's... implied. No offense to the curious mind, I appreciate the genuine approach, but I ain't including all that in a fic hahaha. ANYWAY)

I know exactly what you mean. And I don't know what goes on in most people's real sex lives, but in fanfic world, there can sometimes be a sort of "over-correction" when it comes to the way dialogue and consent is written. You just... gotta make it sound natural. So much reads like a sex ed pamphlet. There's a way to add consent and communication into the flow rather than a pause to deliver a PSA. Easier said that done, I know. It's important, but we don't have to treat what is fantasy and playing around with creativity as a manual for education every time. Real life... isn't A,B,C dialogue choices. Hard to explain, you know??? This isn't covering all the extreme kink explorations and all - which I don't really write so I'm not diving into that. There's an entirely different world out there regarding bdsm but it's not my world so I have little to offer in terms of conversation. As well as the cnc kink which is a whole other ballpark. Valid, but not the topic I'm including with this. This is more of a "light" version.
Gosh. Ok. Here is personal insight which kind of informs how I approach the topic of something like consent and especially a somno style sex act in realistic practice:
It definitely is very personality based - communication, trust, sex drive, what both partners are into. Goes along with the idea of "natural flow of conversation and sex" and really knowing your partner. So. We both know we're very comfortable with each other's bodies and in a well established relationship - we know each other's moods. This isn't something that's happening every day! Or even every week! An occasional indulgence. It's intimate, sharing a bed with someone long term. If you or your partner goes to bed exhausted or a bit upset or off-kilter from the day, feeling sick or just in an odd mood - obviously life just goes about normally. There are times though, when let's say... the night ended after a lot of sex, just a really intimate time and drifting off to sleep from a really passionate session and you know. Continuing in the next morning isn't hmm. Out of the ordinary. The vibes linger from falling asleep into waking again. It's hard to describe - sometimes blatantly spoken in the heat of passion when it's so good and you're still feeling greedy even before it's over ("I'd love to wake up to you fucking me") or something crazy. Or, you just know you'd both go another round before bed if you weren't so tired, so you pass out but whoever wakes up first may just get a head start and continue.
It's... a lot of just knowing your partner. Feeling comfortable to know if you wake up and oh, that's happening and you're not into it? You can just say "babe, I kinda want to just go back to sleep" and you know they'll ease off and let you be. Or, you wake up to a nice surprise and it's a shock at first, but you then relax and let it happen, or vice versa doing something to them. More often it's one of those instances more where you both wake up, very in the stirring strings of half awake, half asleep, and one partner is a little more awake and has the idea. And the half asleep one is like, oh? Sure! I'm just gonna drift though, you have fun. Go to town. It can be like that, too. This all feels very normal and within the flow of an established couple with a pretty active sex life. Just in my opinion.
I've read a lot of sex forums and kink forums because I'm curious about a lot of things! And sex is interesting to me beyond just titillation (using that one for another anon who adores the word haha), sometimes it's just fascinating research. I've read a lot of instances specifically with women, some are actually really into the practice and find it really hot to wake up to their partner either going down on them or starting to fuck them, when they're still sleeping. After conversations about it - there's the consent talk. Now, proceed. They'll wear a specific hair tie or bracelet when they go to sleep, signalling that they're looking for this sex act to happen if so desired. That's the communication, that's the greenlight. No bracelet - no touchy. I don't really practice anything like that because it's not like this is something we do often. It's an offhand comment, it's reading the vibe, it's the half asleep fumblings on a morning lie-in when one partner wakes up with the urge. So, all in all - there are different forms of communications rather than just sitting down the edge of the bed and turning to each other and blatantly spelling out every detail and shaking hands at the end before engaging with the session.
I know there are relationships that are very how do I say it - lifestyle kinksters? Where the master/sub (I don't like the other S word to be honest) have an agreement for whatever period of time is decided upon - where there's a "free use" understanding. They've consented to the initiation of sex whenever. Often including while asleep or half-asleep. But that's also an agreed upon form of consent where it's not long form discussed previous to each encounter. That's lifestyle kink, though. Not most people. Realistically, it's more... trust and understanding of who you're sharing your bed with. Are they into it? Can you tell when they won't be? There's no real rule book.
So when it comes it fiction - I think the idea is kind of implied it's a bit like what I've personally described? Even if not really detailed in the written prose. Not that consent isn't interesting or important - but at least my writing and the writing I like to read - I'm not looking for hyper-realism or education. And there's also great worth in reading/writing some stuff that's more controversial or not perfected romance - I just don't really dive into that myself. I'm very sappy romance and idealistic, to be honest. Just what I'm good at and prefer. ☺️😘

Meta: Help Rationalizing THG Worldbuilding
I originally posted this on reddit, even though I'm not really a redditor, because I've had trouble getting much traction on tumblr lately. I just made this sideblog, though, so I decided to share it just in case anyone wanted to discuss this with me.
According to the first book, all we really get about the history of the world of Panem is:
everyone kind of knows their education of history is propaganda, even if they don't have the word for it
Panem is in what used to be called North America, but an unspecified series of natural disasters and wars led to the rise of Panem's current regime
it's the 74th Annual Hunger Games, meaning that it's been somewhere about 75-80 years since the ultimate conclusion of the Rebellion of the Districts against the Capitol, implying that there was some period of time before the rebellion of the Districts and the "Dark Days" during which Panem was the seat of power that was risen up against
Before the existence of the prequel novel, I think that some of us sort of thought that this pre-Panem era might have been the dying days of the United States. However, it seems that it's pretty impossible for that to be true, given how different socially and culturally the Panem of young Coriolanus Snow.
I think it is implied that the excessive reliance upon Greco-Roman pseudo-language, nomenclature, and symbols, was part of a concerted effort on the part of those pulling the strings - people like Dr. Gaul and her ilk - to evoke certain theoretical states of being, directly and intentionally evoking panem et circenses as a mission statement and a weird if-you-know-you-know kind of dig at masses who were kept ignorant, both in and outside the Capitol. (Of course, this is really convenient when you're a YA author trying to drive home and teach a point at the same time.)
However, this had already started before the Rebellion, making it clear that the Capitol was rebuilt much in its own image, even if certain things intensified. And the Capitol of the TBOSAS movie is one that evokes both familiar imagery from the original film triology and a much harsher imagery that draws on very harsh federal and classical architecture, mixed with a kind of Soviet propaganda flavored art style and brutalism. (I'm using these words with a vague understanding of what they mean but an acknowledgment that there may be better descriptions of what I'm talking about.)
This, in turn, perplexes me, because I had sort of understood the Capitol's decadence to have been very... LA-flavored from the start. I had presumed that the Capitol had a hard time that might have more resembled starving in a resort, the way Katniss describes the situation when they're infiltrating the Capitol in Mockingjay. I had also come to the Aha moment, a couple years ago when teaching The Hunger Games (the first book) to seventh graders, that the "Capitol Accent" was a future-evolved version of verbal fry a la the Kardashians or something. I thought that the Capitol population might have been a "Hollywood Elite" run inland to the Rockies due to, I dunno, part of California falling into the sea. I thought that this might have also gone along with the idea that power is in spectacle, and there are conservative people all over who yell and scream about the Hollywood effectively being some kind of lefty shadow government, or whatever.
TBOSAS threw this perception for a loop, when one sees that the color and glitz and glamor of the Capitol, having healed and vampire-sucked the Districts for seven decades, seems to have had a weird original story with Lucy Gray and Dr. Gaul's warring colors, spectacle, and appeal.
While the Tenth Hunger Games are wiped from record as best as they can, the collective memory of Lucy Gray and how much the people started to become invested in her, along with the spectacle of the snakes, pushed and impression of a wild, freer aesthetic -- at least in terms of a first domino falling. At least, that's my current perception.
But, as described, it really challenges my prior conception of what the Capitol is, culturally speaking, and where it and the rest of Panem came from.
The Covey, also, may be an even bigger thorn in my side in this regard. I absolutely love the representation of something of my Appalachian heritage in the music that is depicted in TBOSAS. I also love the way it filters down into Katniss's story. However, the existence of the Covey also seems like something very anachronistic even for this imaginary-future timeline.
During what kind of era and circumstances where the Covey's parent generation - Lucy Gray's mother and others - existing?
Was in the the Capitol era before the Dark Days war? It must have been, right? But what came immediately before that?
The Covey seem to draw some vague flavor from pop culture perceptions of the Roma (which is kind of weird for the Appalachians but who knows and Roma can be anywhere they want), but it seems even more rooted in some kind of spiritual connection to - for example - the Carter Family becoming involved in syndication and touring with music that was previously unknown to the rest of America and the world. With Bristol, Tennessee/Virginia, being the "Birthplace of Country Music."
But that happened during the early 20th century.
One presumes that the timeline of Panem and The Hunger Games diverges from our own sometime in our own future, but has this perception on my part been wrong all along?
Is The Hunger Games universe better-perceived as something like the Fallout universe where it's sort of a nuclear-power-arms-race-punk divergent timeline well BEFORE the apocalypse that resulted in the present dystopia?
I would love to hear anyone's opinion on this, whether it's a reassurance that "just don't worry about it" is the best approach or someone who's better at worldbuilding-brain than I offering some kind of explanation - whether based on canon or fanon.

Now lessee how well Heaven can hold up its booze. While Ep 6 implies there's no (or very few) alcohol in Heaven, there's this funny concept called "let's pretend". Again, as seen with Charlie and Vaggie, part-angel or fully angelic people aren't immune to alcohol, so, let's go !
First of all, Emily, and I think that the complete irony is that she can hold it even better than Charlie. Ten glasses and she'll still be standing, excitedly asking for more - might even find the experience a brand new one and enjoyable, blissfully unaware of what awaits the common mortals after that (being a Seraphim, she ain't a common mortal). I peg her for the "curious" type of drunk, constantly asking the living hell out of everything and what's this, what's that, why is that guy falling flat on his face and not getting up ? Nor moving ? For hours ? but also hyper and super-excited. She already loves everyone and everything as her sober self, imagine when tipsy. Sliding down further that wonderful realm of drunken stupor might also make her the "sleepy" type, but contrary to Carmilla's "tired" drunk type, she's just yawning and wanting a nap, instead of being exhausted with everything.
Her filter pops like a cork, but given that her demeanor is mainly positive, she'll just shower everyone with praise and love, and at worst embarrass herself with oversharing - a bit of Anna's attitude around Hans in Frozen - so expect a lot of verbal backspace and realizing mid-sentence what she's currently saying, try to cover it up, only to have another slip of the tongue. I think she'll start to feel something around her 10th glass, and by the 16th or so be definitively at least tipsy, but might surprise everyone by tanking a full bottle before giggling at the pretty colors on the ceiling.
And as much just for irony, Sera won't be able to hold that well. She'll struggle to keep her head screwed on straight and try to maintain her usual poise, only to burst out one hysterical laugh ("HA !") at something at the least expected moment, and then snap back to regal and dignified again. While not a total lightweight either, she'll throw in the towel earlier than Charlie, so maybe she has around Vaggie's tolerance. Both the "tired" and "mood-swinger" type of drunk, in a sense that a constant battle to keep up the façade exhausts her pretty quick, and control slips, showing sudden bursts of wheezing hysteria. She'll sway a bit in the air, wings discoordinated, and might have trouble with distance estimations : grabbing something a wee bit too much to the left and patting around to grip the next glass. Might launch into lectures into the void, or talk to herself, both as an effect of the alcohol and to try to focus on something. Most of the time, people don't even peg her for drunk because "drunk" and "Sera" don't compute in their minds, but when you know where to look, you can see the signs that she's definitely wasted.
Might be able to hold 6 or 7 glasses, but by 10 it's over for her. She'll just wander aimlessly and come pretty close to smacking herself into a wall, talking to people that aren't there and being fairly disoriented. Really, the only saving grace is that she doesn't look as stupid as she's feeling, and that nobody will ever believe that the High Seraphim became a high seraphim in the span of an evening : they'll think they were drunk.
Adam. Ha, do I need to say more ? In any case since he's been seen scarfing down food and drinks and pretty much stuffing his face, I'll be lying if I said he isn't a party enjoyer. And he does hold his alcohol pretty well... but less well than he thinks : guy would bet on downing 30 glasses no problems only to get smashed by the 17th or so. Kudos to him, he will reach his 30th, but at that point he's only half-conscious. Verbal coherence goes completely out of the window, luggages included, and physical coherence is not far away, bending over said windowframe to look down and ask how was the landing. This guy is 100% the "rambling" and "complainer" type, because, c'mon, you've seen him when sober, right ? Expect a lot of "in MY time" and "when I was alive" comments, also being the "flirting" type (except nobody can make out what he's slurring, it's as if he's talking sideways from his mouth and sounds like a walking blooper reel) to various results. At its worst, and most inebriated, just before passing out and forgetting this ever happened, he'll also be the "crying" type, all insecurities coming back up, and suddenly the First Man looks like a sobbing child in search for a mother figure (Sera is the unfortunate target), spouting out all what he finds unfair (be it justified or not) and how nobody listens to him nor stays, and that they should obey because he's the dickmaster, and that has to count for something, fucking dammit. (...I didn't expected the swerve into sad, then the even heavier counter-swerve into stupid. Wow.)
However, to get to that point, you'll have to pass layers and layers of "agressive" drunkness, because Adam, being Adam, is gonna look at the lights on the ceiling and decide to fight them, because nobody's supposed to shine brighter than him. That's from glass N° 10 onwards, more or less. And you better let him think he outlasted everyone, or you'll have a whiny bratty fratbro on your hands.
Lute, well. Lute wouldn't want to drink, because Lute is an angel and angels aren't that unbecoming, but Adam already handed her a few and coaxed her into it. It could go both ways : first route, she has uncanny resilience and while managing a tipsy state around 20th shot or so, never really gets to the point of being outright sloshed. Or second, and funnier route : she isn't used to it and is an actual lightweight. Imagine Lute, drunk off her monochrome ass, saluting at nothing and thinking she's in a training session where the 'enemy' has drugged her, and takes on fighting her own chair because it looked at her weird. She'll mix up locations for sure, fuck up distance estimations, pounce on everything, and literally Adam has to be the responsible one for once (with one or two stupid comments of "yeah, women can't hold alcohol" while Emily is drinking him under the table). She'll still be deadly with a weapon, but that's more years of training and her body being honed to the point of it being automatic - because if she had to count on her fuzzed brain and cross-eyed sight alone, she wouldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo. However, she might also show her more affectionate side to those she likes (like Adam), and definitely be less composed overall, but not relaxing, because Lute wouldn't know relaxing even if she were to be drowning in a beanbag on a nice summer day with a cat on her stomach.
On the second route, 5 glasses and she's toasted, three more and it's over for her. "Violent" and "agressive" type for sure in all cases, though, with a side dash of "sour" and sprinkles of "confronting" sprayed over.
St-Peter would tell you that he doesn't remember being ever drunk in his existence, and he'll be right, because the keyword is remember : he'll go from sober to blackout torched while skipping all intermediate steps after one or two glasses. The guy just blips out of consciousness like the last spark of intelligence behind a Queef's eyes : poof ! gone. His alcohol tolerance would be in the negatives, and the problem is, he doesn't even know it, since he can't ever recall whatever happened. And for fun, nobody tells him, because it's so amusing to watch him eagerly want to participate in the common merriment, even shyly accept a drink to join, then observe the phenomenon the moment he downed the glass : frame one, he's sitting and conscious, frame two, he's very much not anymore, on both accounts. And then wake up, remember nothing, get invited to the next party, and doing it all over again. At least Niffty can boast being awake (even if not really aware) and active, but St-Peter will just go out like a lightswitch.
After a while - and once the fun subsides - people take pity on him and try to experiment with hybrid drinks (mundane + alcohol), but the only effect it achieves is apparently for his mind to spirit away from his body, and he'll just stay there sitting like a statue, smiling into nothing with a thousand yard stare. They call it "good enough" and throw a sheet on him, because the soulless staring can get creepy. Usually, they'll prepare non-alcoholic mimics of the real deal for him from then on : a party's only a good party if everyone has fun, after all.

Been reading your posts about the accent and all, and I wanted to share two horror stories I wrote in my accent. :)

Also it's interesting reading your posts about it - I've always been proud of my accent and my home and not exactly able to empathize with people who internalize the prejudice and turn against their home. So your posts are helping me see that side of things more.
Maybe it's because I grew up in Mount Airy, and of course we pride ourselves on Andy Griffith and Mayberry and all that. So maybe I got lucky and didn't grow up around the shame as much.
As for people assuming we're "dumb" - in 7th grade I scored high enough on the verbal part of the SAT to go to Duke's TIP program. There was a girl there from Tobaccoville with the thickest accent I've heard yet. I hope she kept it and I hope she's proud of it.
Anyway I love your blog and I hope you keep fighting the good fight. :)

i'll explain it how i see it personally: it isn't like the accent is just a collection of sounds or something equally as simple. it is one of the accents and dialects that carries on its back something much heavier. this has to do with code-switching, which occurs in all sorts of sociolinguistic cases.
it also isn't necessarily us 'turning away from home' (i'd like to address that further in a minute).
so to the sociolinguistic point:
in my case--and in a lot of cases given by those who have shared their stories with this community here--we are queer, non- or ex-religious people with leftist ideals. the opposite of what people are adamant about associating this region with.
the accent has become like a hallmark of that kind of behavior we don't align ourselves with but are still stereotyped and harmed by.
it seems to be a common experience that we want to hide the accent so we aren't automatically pegged as being the exact opposite of who we truly are.
because so many people, consciously or subconciously, revert to their misconceptions when they hear it, before we even have a chance to show them we're of like mind. i say this as someone who moved away from appalachia for several years. it's a thing. i promise.
so if you're trying to see it from our perspective, i think that's an important thing to understand. lord knows there ain't shit wrong with the accent itself. to me, it's home-y and warm, soft and familiar and hospitable.
it's what the accent unfortunately implies before we can get a word in edgewise. it isn't fair that we are made to feel this way, and i am hoping by reclaiming my own accent as i have been, i will be changing minds for the better.
but socially--its HARD. its EXHAUSTING. and code-switching has historically just been so much easier.
also--and i say this gently--i struggle with your idea of "turning away from home," because it reminds me of something regressionists in the south/appalachian south say about young people leaving the region, calling them traitors. this us-them mentality simply needs to be dissolved.
i am not turning away from my home when i protect myself from hatred and vitriol based solely on how i drawl my "i" sounds. my home has turned away from me.
it was always mine, always ours. my ancestors--our ancestors--were generous, loving, community-driven, hospitable folks. these hateful fucks have stolen what it once was and projected an awful image out into the world instead. that's not on me. all i can do is try to set it right again.

listen we have seen their father he’s a dickhead. it’s clear that akito and ena’s issues with feeling like their good enough stem (or in akito’s case is probably a part of) from him. them kids need to be let out of there!!!
also lil tidbit that may totally be a huge reach but I’ve dealt w shit and projecting onto characters and letting them heal is my coping mechanism sooooo
but anyways, both ena and akito have in canon been a bit violent. they both obviously come off as aggressive but literally its canon that ena has scratched akito and theres that toya 3* from the beginning of the game from the main vbs story where akito punched him (which lemme just say—neither of them are abusive. thats such a dumb thing to say and anyone that thinks that needs to stfu!!) but also!!! akito clearly was very harsh to kohane, immediately deeming her as completely unfit to delve into music when first meeting her, which is arguably similar to the way his father puts down ena for her art (and maybe him? idk i havent seen or heard anything abt any stories showing that so as far as im aware it might just be a theory/implied)
people who get abused often show traits,,,of their abuser.
again this is just total speculation and also hcs massively coming into play here, but prehaps shinei (i think thats shinodads name) is verbally and maybe even physically abusive at times
so guess who snatches the shinonomers up? airi!!!
i feel like w how airi and ena’s friendship is, she probably views her like a sister, and akito as a result, like her little brother. soooooo why not just fuck around and make it reality

RWBY isn’t anti-abuse victim, FFS
Still not sure how people ended up reaching the conclusion of “RWBY has a bad message because it makes victims of abuse and neglect into villains.”
Like bruh, okay, I’ll grant you that Salem, Cinder, Mercury, Adam, and Neo were subject to some pretty shitty treatment early in life, and this at least in part made them who they are today.
But all four of the titular protagonists were also victims of abuse and/or neglect.
Ruby and Yang had to fend for themselves after Tai was unable to deal with his grief from losing Raven and Summer in quick succession. While other parts of the show’s lore imply that Tai recovered at some point after Yang’s first attempt to find Raven ended in disaster, or at least he had good days as well as bad ones, Yang still had to step into her parents’ role for a while.
And that’s just what applies to both of them. Yang gets a double-whammy as well, because Remnant’s Third Worst Mum over there decided to dip almost as soon as she was born.
Weiss, meanwhile, gets to deal with an abusive shitheel of a father who decided it was a great idea to say the quiet part out loud and admit that he only married Willow for her name and money on their younger daughter’s birthday. Jacques is both verbally and physically abusive, and remains unassailable due to his wealth, power, and friendship with the kingdom’s ruler, until he got caught doing election fraud.
She’s also got to deal with Willow’s coping mechanism being alcoholism, and how self-destructive she became during her lower days (as seen in the DC comics). Like with Tai, this is more a case of the parent’s (understandable) inability to deal with their own trauma inducing more trauma in the next generation, but it’s still something she had to endure.
And then there’s Blake. Blake who was in the region of 12-14 when she was groomed by an older man, and trapped in an abusive relationship until shortly before she became an adult. And after she escaped, her abuser tracked her down, burned her new life to the ground, stabbed her in the gut and maimed her new partner/lover, before ordering a hit on her parents and subsequently stalking her across Anima and forcing her and Yang into a fight to the death.
Blake had it pretty fuckin’ rough.
And hey, that’s just our four main leads. How about their allies?
Well, let’s start with Nora. She had Remnant’s Second Worst Mum, and presumably also its Second Worst Dad, who abandoned her on the streets of a random village.
And hey, how ‘bout the rest of the Schnee family? Winter and Whitley were in functionally the same situation as Weiss. And Willow obviously also had to deal with being married to Jacques, something that fucked her life up completely. Oh, but let’s go for one more. Oz. Oz, who’s second go-around at life ended with him being burned to death by his own wife, after a battle where he saw all four of their children also die. Oz, who has then spent the following centuries constantly coming back, and occasionally being murdered by his ex-wife’s followers. Oz, the shambling mass of scar tissue, stumbling around in the approximate shape of a man, because he was manipulated into agreeing to a shitty deal by an arrogant god, and he decided that maybe killing all of humanity and replacing them with his and Salem’s kids wasn’t a good idea.
Bonus addition: Emerald. She’s new to our protagonists, and we don’t have a huge amount of information about her backstory compared to the others, but it’s very apparent that she was also an orphan when Cinder found her. Whether that’s in the traditional sense or the “They went out for cigarettes ten years ago” sense, I’m not sure, but if it’s the latter, that’s one more for the list.
RWBY isn’t condemning abuse victims by depicting them as monsters. It has significantly more good-aligned characters who endured abuse. What RWBY does do is make villains of those who perpetuate the cycle.
Salem was abused, but ended up killing her husband and kids. Villain. Cinder was abused, and now gleefully executes teenagers for kicks. Villain. Adam endured horrible treatment under the SDC, and then went on to groom and abuse someone who was still a child when he started. Villain. Mercury and Neo are more up in the air at the moment, but I genuinely think both of them will be redeemed by the end of the series. The same may even happen for Cinder and Salem, but I’m less certain about that. Frankly I can never tell what the writers want Cinder to be.
We have abuse victims who became heroes and abuse victims who became villains, and the difference between them is that the latter category are currently opting to make it everyone else’s problem. But as we’ve seen with Emerald, those choices aren’t set in stone.
To quote something else that gave its hero and villain similar trauma:
“There is a difference between you and me: We both looked into the abyss, but when it looked back, you blinked.”
