ok ok ok like i thought “the chosen” would suck cause “blah another series about the life and times of jesus” like we GET it it’s been around for CENTURIES you guys make the same damn movie all the time
but it’s actually legit really good? lots of pretty good representation! not everyone in the movie is white. actual portrayals of jewish culture instead of just ignoring that part. disabled people. matthew being autistic. characters that aren’t just two dimensional. the people in it feel like real people. there’s actual jokes, jesus cracks a few and they’re really funny?? so far nothing hateful, no gay or transgender bashing. it calls out the church for being judgemental and hateful in a way that’s very tasteful
it’s not perfect tho. jesus is…still white for some reason? despite mary not being white? and no one else around him being white? no gay people in it which is kind of a bad and a good thing…but it’s a portrayal of jesus and the people around him as human. as real life people who felt things and made jokes and rolled their eyes and stuff. also the guy they cast as jesus is pretty hot as are all the disciples. which isn’t the point or whatever but i can’t say i’m complaining. it’s free online and i think it’s worth a watch!

whyyyy did Marcus tell Mary to suck it up and go through the wedding apologies i do not know much about their backstories (or how they’re connected 😭) but it seems very compelling!! do u have any references for the both of them tyyy
uhh mostly because he's sick in the head?
okay, real answer is because it's the path of least resistance for both of them. marcus doesn't want to get super involved in her personal drama because he dislikes her and disagrees with her politics. he's also very aware of the fact that he needs to protect his apostate family (anders, bethany and warden amell. potentially a baby mage but i'm not completely sold on that) and doesn't want to cause controversy. he's also very aware of her situation and... what can she do? call the wedding off? it's the biggest event of the year. he knows it's literally beyond his control but he still wishes he could do something.
in a worse, deeper layer of himself, there's also this sick sense of... poetic justice? mary has made her bed and now she has to lie in it. she chose a divine who will actively hurt the mages, so finding out she is in fact a mage is funny. anders goes along with this despite it being upsetting because he has never had a full conversation with mary, but bethany really disagrees because she had ties to mary's mage sister in the kirkwall circle. matilda amell doesn't care because she's busy hooking up with bianca (another plotline.)

Gabriel and Matthew 25:35
I hardly know what I want to say here (wow I am NOT a biblical scholar), but this has been kicking around in my head for a while so it's time to get it out there.
Like a few of us seem to have done, I started out life in Catholic school and learned my bible verses like a good little overachieving neurodivergent duckling.
So when Gabriel shows up with nary a tailored stitch on him and then over the course of the season Aziraphale proceeds to not only clothe, but give drink, housing, and safety... well I had two thoughts.
One was that this is peak cat lady behavior by Aziraphale where Gabriel is the scruffy cat who gets a pink collar and tuna everyday. The OTHER thought however was Matthew 25:35-40 (yes, I looked up the exact number, it's been a long time since Catholic school haha). Here it is (KJ just cause):
Matthew 25:35-40 King James Version (KJV)
for I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
It's talking about who gets welcomed into Heaven for good, charitable behavior - using the Jesus as a Stranger example. I am NOT a biblical scholar (Catholic school didn't last long), but I do find it interesting that Gabriel's visit hits so many of the exact beats of this verse. I'm almost surprised Aziraphale didn't quote it to try to convince Crowley to help (he would have gotten the biggest, most dramatic demonic eye-roll ever).
Now, it may be as simple as Aziraphale doing good and literally in this case following the teachings of the Bible (in a sentiment that most can agree is actually good). I just find it interesting that this is a big part of the plot of season 2 given the probable second coming of Jesus plot of season 3. In fact, knowing this info about season 3 going into season 2, I wondered part way through my first watch if Jim could be Jesus in Gabriel's body?? This seems to be squashed by the end of season 2 but... I dunno. Maybe if the season had been released week by week it could have been a theory we debated. I don't know that all this pertains to anything anymore but I had to get it out of my brain, and if anyone has anything to add I'd love to hear your thoughts!
(Also re-reading the Matthew verse above it occurs that many of those things could apply to Aziraphle and Crowley specifically the meat and prison bit, but that's probably a stretch and I'll stop now)

Got an opinion/advice question for y'all.
So, a few weeks ago, I wrote a scene that was initially going to be a bit of extra B-plot (or really C-plot) content in one of my fics (working title: Small Town Paranormal Investigations). The scene in question was Luz and Amity's milkshake date, as featured in the photo album from Thanks to Them.
Now, since I wrote it, I've done a bit of reconsidering with regards to the fic's structure, and realized that that particular scene would really work better as an intermission oneshot than as one part of the current multi-chapter affair. The broader AU fic/series that Small Town Paranormal Investigations belongs to is already planned to have smaller intermissions between most (if not all) main chapters, so the date would have just become a missing/bonus scene oneshot that I would post afterwards.
Thinking again though, there really isn't anything in the scene (as i wrote it) which ties it strongly to the broader AU, so I could probably release it as a tiny canon-compliant oneshot now-ish anyways.
On the one hand, holding off until its time comes in the broader AU gives me time to rework it for being a standalone oneshot, probably resulting in a better piece. This would especially help the pacing, since I wrote the thing initially with the intention of copying the show's scene-by-scene pace (which is rather fast).
On the other hand, it's kinda technically in a "finished" state already, and posting it now would be topical. Valentine's Day and all that. And besides, even if I post the kinda iffy one now, there's no real reason I couldn't revisit the premise later on with a bit more polish.
On the OTHER other hand, its length and pacing and all that is already also kinda perfect for including as one of the vignettes which make up the broader AU's test document of sorts, Something Like a Bible, which would ideally be the first thing I post of it (and should probabhopefully be done some time in the next few months). Putting the scene in SLaB would allow an almost-middleground between posting it now, when it's least ready and most topical, and posting it later, when it's most ready and less likely to be topical.
So, here I ask to borrow y'alls' executive function:
