I enrolled in INELDA's death doula training course today, and I'm glad I did so with a full 2.5 months before the live sessions of the training because that gives me more time to step very, very carefully through the absolute minefield that is my own grief as I process through the recorded 'pre-work' sessions.

Even just THINKING about the training has gotten me twitchy af.

I'm still extremely wary of the idea of offering death and funerary support as part of my scope of service, given the way my grief has calcified over the past 15 years into a hard shell that simultaneously flinches away from the slightest touch, but grief is a normal and natural emotion that commonly comes up in peer counseling even when the sessions is focused on another matter. Mostly I'm hoping that this will crack said shell in a way that therapy never managed, basically by coming at it sideways from the familiar perspective of being a service provider and therefore be less "threatening" to my hypervigilant brain, and that it will do so before I end up being the end-of-life caregiver for a parent for the second time.

SO BASICALLY LIKE 1/4 of the (INCREDIBLY SIMPLIFIED) lore of the dream smp:

PEACE:

dream started a minecraft server, and invited his close friends to play. they built and did stuff in peace, and they made a community house which was used as the first home. REMEMBER THE COMMUNITY HOUSE, IT WILL BE IMPORTANT.

dream also had a horse called spirit, which will also be important. remember that dream has an extreme attatchment to this horse.

so one of the friends invited tommyinnit, who at the time was 15. tommy invited tubbo, wilbur soot, and a bunch of other people, and they made a "nation" that sold potions to everyone. they called this nation l'manburg, and no one there was american. it was composed of wilbur, tubbo, tommy, eret, nihachu (niki), and fundy. fundy was canonically wilbur's son.

L'MANBURG:

wilbur declared war on dream, as l'manburg wanted to be independent ("SUCK IT, GREEN BOYYYYY"), and this is where the actual lore begins. tommy had these two minecraft disks, "cat" and "mellohi", and they were really important to his character.

there was a war, unsurprisingly. eret betrayed the l'manburgians to dream, luring them to the "final control room", which was really just an ambush for the people of the greater dream smp. (i'm sorry, boys, but IT WAS NEVER MEANT TO BE.) all of the l'manburgians lost a "canon" life that day. in the dream smp, each character has three "canon" lives, canon being when it's lore time and not, per se, dying to a creeper or a baby zombie.

after this surprise, dream and tommy had a bow duel for the independence of l'manburg, and dream won, killing tommy.

after tommy loses his first life, he offers dream his disks in exchange for l'manburg. dream takes the offer, and he puts the disk into an ender chest. tommy is left sad, but wilbur convinces him to stop being sad and revel in the new nation.

JSCHLATT:

tommy added jschlatt on april fools, and he was immediately blacklisted from the smp. however, dream and he had a discussion, and that discussion led to wilbur being pressured into letting l'manburg have elections for leader instead of it being a dictatorship.

wilbur campaigned for president and tommy his vp. they were called POG2020. quackity went for pres and georgenotfound for vp, and they were SWAG2020, fundy and nihachu were Coconut2020, and jschlatt was Schlatt2020.

originally, POG2020 won, but since Schlatt and SWAG combined to make SchWAG2020, they won, instating jschlatt as president of l'manburg.

his first act as president was to exile tommy and wilbur, and wilbur lost a canon life in the process of running, having been shot by fundy with a bow.

THE REVOLUTION:

wilbur and tommy found refuge in a ravine, which they named pogtopia. tommy was able to get in touch with tubbo, who agreed to spy on schlatt when he was acting as schlatt's secretary of state.

wilbur, deciding that pogtopia needed help, called upon technoblade (rest in peace, alex) and added him to the server. technoblade, who at that point had just won the potato war, agreed and stepped up. niki also joined, and wilbur built a button room full of tnt, all rigged up to a button.

why? fundy burnt the l'manburg flag after tearing down the walls, and wilbur was pushed over the edge of insanity. he put the button room as "a precaution".

THE FESTIVAL:

so basically, schlatt wanted a festival. tubbo decorated it, and it was alll going well until schlatt trapped tubbo in a box and coerced technoblade to kill him. tubbo was shot, and he respawned in pogtopia.

wilbur pressed the button, expecting to blow up manburg, but nothing happened because the tnt went missing.

Going on that ask about Twitter ATLA accusing everyone of “sexualizing minors” They’re also launching a crusade against OG fans making jokes like Sokka being a back bender or casually mentioning x character is their husband/wife. And I’m... just so tired. Idek what to say. Please tell me I’m not crazy for believing none of this is a big deal? I mean personally crude jokes aren’t to my taste and get annoying for me, but I also don’t think the people making them are automatically sex predators.

Honestly, like, twitter is a cesspool that is incredibly difficult to navigate under the best of circumstances, and it’s becoming increasingly clear that all the worst bits of tumblr that left once the porn ban came down simply migrated to new territory, because takes are coming out of the twittersphere that are nigh indistinguishable from shit that’s been circulated around tumblr for years already at this point.

AtLA twitter is particularly vile, and the fact that this uptick in toxic behavior has coincided with the show’s re-release on Netflix is difficult to pin down as a coincidence. The fact is, no, you aren’t crazy--there’s absolutely no reason for these ‘fans’ to go off on people for making ultimately harmless jokes about characters from a show who were in the middle of a war, fighting and dying on screen, but somehow the suggestion that some of them may have had sex is horrible and automatically means the person making the joke is some kind of predator???? Nah.

Like, I agree, those kinds of jokes aren’t to my taste, and I prefer to read smut that has been written where the characters involved are adults, but the fact is, it’s canon that Sokka and Suki were having sex. It’s implied that Mai and Zuko had sex. These are scenes that were deliberately placed in the show by the adults writing it, scenes which younger viewers wouldn’t get because no seven-year-old is gonna watch sokka inhale a rose in surprise and think omg he was gonna have sex with his girlfriend unless something else is very wrong in that household, but the adults would get the reference and chuckle about it and move on, and there’s honestly nothing wrong with that!

Almost the entirety of YA literature is written by adults, and a big cornerstone of the genre is coming-of-age stories, which frequently involve an exploration of sexuality. Alanna had sex with Jon in the Song of the Lioness quartet, after having gone through fairly excruciating puberty growing pains since she was still pretending to be a boy at the time, and it was fairly tame since Tamora Pierce was writing for a young demographic--but it was an important part of her journey, and her story, and the fact that such scenes might get taken out of context by the purity mob on twitter and the author made out to be some kind of sex predator because she wrote a coming of age tale about a young girl who became a woman just... it really bothers me.

No one has to like ‘sokka is a backbender’ jokes--I don’t care for them and I don’t reblog them cause it’s just not my cuppa. But saying that the ppl making them are ‘sexualizing minors’ as if there are real kids being hurt and not fictional characters from a show that ended over a decade ago is just ridiculous, in my view, as is attacking ppl on twitter or tumblr for it! Like, please, get a life! Find something real to worry about and learn how to blacklist content or block blogs you don’t want to see because they post content you don’t like and move on! It’s not that difficult!

And for the love of all that is holy, quit pretending that teenagers are sexless beings until they hit the age of majority (which isn’t even a universal constant) and suddenly develop the Ability to have Sexy Feelings. That’s not how hormones or the libido work. Sometimes teenagers have sex, sometimes that’s an important and formative experience, and sometimes adults will write about it because it’s something they either experienced or wish they had the freedom to experience (see: queer adults who could not come out either to others or even themselves as teenagers, wanting to write about the experiences they missed out on bc of an intensely queerphobic climate), and adults are better positioned to be able to write and publish such works than kids are (and have the perspective of time and life experience through which they can judge the past which actual kids do not have).

Anyway, I rambled a bit, but tl;dr: you are not crazy, twitter is a vile cesspool, tumblr isn’t much better, and people really need to learn the fine art of just minding their own damn business lmao.

honestly i am just. so tired of certain fandoms 

i’ve been tired of grisha since the day i finished reading the books lmao and for soc, every time i see an edit with neelam as inej i just role my eyes and become increasingly annoyed with this trend of her supposedly being the only indian - scratch that, i mean desi, bc apparently indian is the only desi race that exists lmao - model available, not to mention her relationship with kaz is put up on this pedestal like?? ok yeah it’s great but idk i’m just so tired of seeing it like i’d rather see more of wesper or kuwei. voltrash fandom will not shut up about fucking ages and has made it their life’s purpose to focus on that argument instead of actual character development for, i dunno, HUNK AND LANCE. it’s amazing i’m not done with the raven cyc fandom like somehow the portion of it i’m privy to manages to stay in their lane and collectively ignore maggie. the 100 manages to make every one of its poc’s suffer physically at some point and honestly idek what bellamy is even doing anymore like he deserves better but he’s just stuck and the show has no spark anymore and it’s clear the producers are never gna make bellamy and clarke get together yet the fans still jump on nearly every moment like it’s gold. thirteen reasons will not stop showing upon my dash despite me blacklisting every version of it’s tag. tgd supporters are willing to shove the show down your throat and if you happen to watch it but don’t really care for it you’re immediately labeled as disgusting and lacking of taste. and then the levels of pretentiousness in some fandoms is so off the charts i wish i’d never been a part of them. so here’s to happy tumblr experiences :)
