with less than 24 HOURS until protocol, here are my final hopes/predictions/general ramblings

First off, jmart. Jmart my beloveds. My babygirls. I need them ALIVE AND WELL AND HAPPY, but you know I’ll take what I can get. Ideally it’s our jmart not an alternate universe jmart, but again. ILL TAKE WHAT I CAN GET. And if there’s no jmart, I’ll be sad but I’m sure I’ll get over it as I get unreasonably attached to new characters (that’s a lie. I listened to the finale like 9 months ago and I’m still not over it. I understand that having them in protocol would kinda undermine the whole ambiguous ending they had going on, but you know. I need them to be ok. Also, if they’re not in protocol I’m very curious who’s voice was in the announcement audio thing if it wasn’t martins)

Secondly, Agnes montague. Agnes my love. My darling. If you have seen my previous post with my “how Agnes montague can still win” theory you know where this is going, but anyways the theory is that protocol will be desolation focused and will have Agnes in it. I go more into detail in the post. (Also, this wasn’t in the original post, but I noticed that there’s embers in the promotional material, so more fuel for my ridiculous fire baby)

Next, I would like Gwendolyn Bouchard to bpm (brutal pipe murder) someone. I’m sorry, I don’t even know her, but I need it. It would be funny

Finally, a happy ending. I know this is completely unrealistic, and almost definitely won’t happen, but that’s not going to stop me from hoping. (Jonny and Alex if you’re reading this, shut up stop laughing I know they all probably die or something, just let me HOPE)

tuesdays as a non-patreon/kickstarter member in the tmagp fandom are so fun because i get to poke around the tmagp vague tag and watch everyone lose their minds over [REDACTED] while i silently panic and try to figure out what the fuck is gonna happen on thursday

tmagp episodes come out on Thursdays, which is the same day as my therapy appointments, so I get to face both the eldritch horrors thought up by Jonny Sims and the horrors of realizing how much is wrong with me because of my mother, within hours of each other :|

Okay, I have some things to say about the first season of The Magnus Protocol... This might be a long one but I don't care ✨

SPOILERS OBVS IF YOU'RE NOT UP TO DATE

I'd like to mention beforehand that I absolutely ADORED TMA, and I'm a big fan of Jonny and Alex's work. Maybe this is just me having too high expectations for this series, but I have spoken to some of my friends who also listen to this podcast and have listened to Magnus Archives and pretty much everyone agrees. So here we go

I'm not feeling it. I didn't enjoy this season at all in all honesty. The only moments that excited me was the lore we had for the TMA characters to which, as far as we know, have nothing to do with this story. It was all filler to please the fans which is appreciated, but every statement in this season felt unimportant. Sure, we had Mr. Bonzo and a couple others that we saw again as part of Gwen's work, but they never truly felt like a threat to me. If anything, most interactions they got felt coincidental more than anything.

Which leads to my second point, there was no action in the season and it made it political and boring to me :/ I understand that's this is how TMA kinda started as well, with a lot of build up and set up for the world. BUT, at least we got SOMETHING by the end of the season. There was real danger and survival instinct activated for the characters. TMAGP has none of that... They jump in, no questions asked and no questions answered. There's no thrill, there's barely any suspense. It feels empty.

And now the characters themselves. Well, except from the very charged introduction to all of them at once that lead many fans to be confused and have difficulty identifying each of them in the first few episodes, they are pretty mundane. None of their stories truly engage with me. Don't get me wrong, I still love them, but they feel a bit boring and all too similar to each other. They get lost in the plot and don't feel like individuals. It's like they're forgetting who they are in order to feed into the plot.

Now, with all of that being said, here's what I think could've helped make this a better series.

1. Make it a longer series. As of now, there's only one episode left which, yes, is supposed to be double length, but nothing has happened yet for me to want a second season. Even if it has taken an extra year or two, I would've rather waited. So, unless something very intense happens next Thursday, I don't think S2 will be in my "Need to listen" list. Too much setup, not enough fear. Like, I'm not even worried that Sam or Celia will die in the next episode. They have so much plot armor I'm certain they'll survive.

2. Make the statements have an effect on the characters. Only Sam seems to take interest in them. But with the others just setting them aside and ignoring the stories, it makes us feel like they're unimportant as well. And it sucks, cause TMA's statements had an effect on the characters and changed their ways of thinking. Now, they're just there to be there and not much is coming out of them.

So yeah, this is MY PERSONAL OPINION and I still want to support Rusty Quill for all the beautiful podcasts they create for us, but TMAGP was not it for me. I love this fandom, I love the lore and the writing itself, but the story didn't hook me in as much as I would've liked it to.

I might regret all of this by next week when the last episode comes out, but for now, these are my thoughts.

gwen is making me laugh so much w the vibe that she’s that One Kid at school who’s like the teacher’s pet and is constantly trying to enforce shit the teacher says and like standing beside them and being like “yeah.” “exactly.” “what she said.” and the teacher internally is just like jesus fucking christ

this is totally albertus magnus and not jonah magnus,, i hadn’t seen that theory until today but i so vibe w it. also thoughts about this universe jon and martin being dead and there’s voices in the puter. is this a sergei ushenka thing and the voices are actually this universe jon martin?

honestly i’m not Loving tmagp cases as much as i did tma? it feels,,, different. like tma would make me unsettled about Everything, whether it was a fear of mine or not. but tmagp is more,,, it only makes me unsettled if i already fear it? it feels less like. idk i can’t quite word it. i feel like with tmagp its sorta more character driven than plot driven? i mean there’s a plot yes but i feel like we’re only finding that plot Through the characters if that makes sense? im so bad at verbalising my thoughts

this isn’t a criticism of course, i love tmagp so much it’s just ramblings. i am SO excited for the next few episodes, so close to season finale. hoping gwen’s gonna be okay bc i couldn’t cope if she died. or celia for that matter but i don’t feel like celia will die. she had a big fuck off knife. she fully knows what she’s in for.

still holding out for gwenlena even tho i know it aint gonna happen. i cant help it i love them so much im deeply deeply unwell over them

Happy Thursday everyone, I know there's no ep this week so I'm gonna take the opportunity to share my theory with the class.

My friend and I have been calling it the "fear smoothie" theory, and I believe that our encounters with fears consist of two or more entities working as one to create even more terrifying and horrific instances.

So during TMA we kinda caught on to the fact that each of the fears has a handful of signature tropes associated with them! (think manikins or doors, that kind of thing. Just stuff that gets the audience to catch onto who might be behind a statement) Well as I've been listening to TMAGP I've been trying to find those same tropes and I noticed something interesting. (and this is gonna be a bit long but bear with me)

In each of the eps so far I have picked up tropes from two or more of the fears working in tandem to create even more horrific situations!

How did this happen? Good question I have three equally plausible situations on why the entities are doing this.

Number 1: During the aftermath of the eyepocalypse the fears were smushed even closer together than they had been previously been, when they were forced through the hole in the universe. Therefore they are now so intrinsically close that they physically cannot work separately.

Number 2: This is web bullshit, most of the fears aren't really too conscious besides "feed" so it makes sense if the web is trying to relive what it was like in the eyepocalypse.

Number 3: The fears remember how wonderful it was when the world went wrong. They are working together because they liked it. it made them realize that their teamwork was the best way to get the most fear and by working together they are hoping to create another "Archivist" (someone touched by all of the fears) to put them back to their full power. What's the best way to do that? Make 100 avatars touched by at least 2 fears each and make them race!
