let me just say this: if crowley EVER makes an actual move on aziraphale and aziraphale gives even a HINT of reciprocation it's over for him in SECONDS bc u know aziraphale half asses nothing so it'll be like crowley tries to brush their fingers together and aziraphale fully beams at him and interlocks their fingers in seconds. crowley stares speechlessly at their hands for 5 minutes, looks up at aziraphale and faints. crowley gets aziraphale flowers and aziraphale puts them in the very center of his shop where everyone can see and keeps them alive for months. crowley fights a giggle every time he sees them. crowley offers his jacket on a cold night and aziraphale wears the jacket everywhere for weeks and gushes about it to everyone he meets. crowley chokes on his breath every meeting aziraphale is in it without fail. crowley slyly asks aziraphale on an actual romantic date and aziraphale SLAMS down their wedding invitations infort him of like "im so glad u asked, dear, i've been waiting for this" then launches into a rant about flower arrangements and table cloth colors and crowley is left blinking at him and trying not to explode. poor snake.

i could talk about the parallels between the dreemurr siblings and the skeleton brothers and how one is more reserved and is closely related to your choices and willing to make the hard choices that their brothers can't while the other is more energetic and refuses to kill even in the face of certain death and is closely tied to belief and hope and how both are so extremely codependent and how the dreemurrs were doomed because of it but the skeletons avoid their fate
but instead i'll just say that chara and sans are joined in "my brother is the coolest" solidarity

Broke: I respect Neil Gaiman's wishes and Word of God ™ and only write Aziraphale as an asexual nonbinary angel who loves in a holy way we humans could never fathom which is deeper than any carnal expression
Woke: Aziraphale's character and issues are symbolic of the experience of being a religiously traumatized gay man and have been for 30+ years and it's valid to write him as a character going through the gay experience especially as he consistently uses he/his pronouns and canonically in the book angels can "choose" their gender expression
Bespoke: I will write Aziraphale as a ravenously cockhungry power bottom and not even God can stop me

Saaaav <3 I do not know if this is considered an STS question I just have a mighty need for more Az lore. Like what did he do to get stuck with babysitting duty? Did he want the job bc he still has a burning need to be a father, or was that an unexpected perk of a punishment assignment?
jamie hi!! <3
oooh you have no idea what you just unlocked >:) to get into Az's motivations, we need to bust open some Mortae lore. because this guy is old. like, old old. like, the second Mortae that was ever created old.
Morrigan is referred to as the First (Mortae) but that's not really true because she's not technically a Mortae, she's Death. so who was the first? Uriel! (we learn more about the mess that was his death + resurrection in act 3 but yea, he's been around for a while which is why he's Morrigan's right-hand man)
Az was resurrected shortly after, and for a long time, he was hopping around with Uriel. they were new, they were testing the limits of their immortality and what Morrigan would let them get away with, they were the only two of their kind. in the early years, they had little purpose besides finding souls to slurp on and not upsetting Death (which was pretty easy because at this point, nobody was opposing her)
he wasn't exaggerating in Judas Wept when he introduced himself to Theodore as "a friend of [his] mother." he and Uriel are probably the closest thing that Morrigan has to friends. even tho Az isn't directly working for her anymore, he's been loyal for long enough that he remains one of her most trusted allies.
SO. back to the actual question you asked lol. when Theo was being held captive at the end of Judas Wept, Az spent weeks with Morrigan convincing her to let him give it a shot, let him look after her son, he'll set the boy right, etc. he absolutely wanted the job. and yeah part of it was because he wants to be a father, but he also saw that Theodore was suffering and knew that he was maybe the only person that could remove him from the situation and offer him something better.
because unlike Uriel, Az still holds on to some of his humanity (see: the painting of his wife which was created with materials that only existed long after her death. see: the preoccupation with rituals like having dinner together every night)
Az doesn't remember his real name. he doesn't even remember what he looked like when he was alive. but he does remember how to care for others, which is arguably the most human trait of all
and he's successful enough at keeping Theo in one spot and out of trouble (a herculean task) that he becomes a daycare for errant Mortae that don't respond to violent punishment (hi Marcella)
the caveat is that he's still bound to obey Morrigan (and somehow get her wet rat of a son to obey her, too) so he's forced into some decisions that make Theodore vewy angwy
thank u for letting me ramble about this man!!! i hope u have the best day <3

"I know he came out and went on e but last I heard he still uses he/him pronouns, people are misgendering him to prove a point " f1nnster uses any pronouns and you can see this by looking at any of his socials what the fuck are you on about
When he came out he literally said he would accept any but that he vastly prefers he/him. On his X he put "her pronouns are he/him" as a joke because people always call him the wrong pronouns. I know because I was there when he did it. He literally said that he's okay with all pronouns because he doesn't care that much when people misgender him, but he still prefers he/him. If he changed that in the last few months I'm sorry, but as the joke is still on his active account, I doubt it.
Also, as I told the last person: if someone uses both he and she, and everyone in a 100 person conversation only uses she to refer to them, then you're still trying to fit them into your binary agenda. This has literally been the problem with Finn the whole time. Everyone has always wanted to say that he's a cis boy or a trans girl and they've been fighting about it since he got popular, but now that he's come out people are ignoring him because he came out as genderfluid.
talking about him as if he came out as a binary trans woman is still misgendering him. Hundreds of people only referring to him as a woman and w she/her pronouns is misgendering him. he's literally on E and visibly trans fem; if he wanted to come out as a trans woman he would have but he didn't. yall are doing the same thing you did when you constantly harassed him about being an "egg" instead of letting him explore gender on his own. it wasn't right then and it isn't right now

Just saw a post that irked me that started off by saying Aziraphale has never suffered and as someone with religious trauma and who grew up in an emotionally neglectful and chronically invalidating envrionment I want to be the first to say that suffering is not defined by rigid standards and that there's a reason neglect and manipulation are classed as forms of abuse. I didn't finish reading the post because I got really angry seeing it so I apologize if I missed context by choosing not to engage further but I just want to make it abundantly clear that suffering and abuse are not black and white concepts, and just because someone is in a space that tries to paint themselves as good doesn't mean that they are good (I mean, seriously, if you haven't learned that from this show then idk if you've even watched it), and just because someone is unable to see that their situation is abusive does not mean that they aren't suffering (and in fact people saying that reeeeally smell of "if they were abusive why didnt you just leave?" Vibes)

no i actually need to make a post about this. i see ppl thinking crowley is gonna turn "actually" evil or accept the duke of hell position next season and i respect that but also, he's literally been protecting aziraphale for thousands of years. even when he was angry with him, tho never before as he is now, he still protected him and he will continue to do that even from heaven, even from God. he will. they would not only threaten God for aziraphale, but actually carry through with their threat. he's literally devoted his entire existence to keeping aziraphale safe and happy and he's not about to stop now just because he got his heartbroken. he has before!!! he has, even if not on this level, but he always shown up for aziraphale and he will have the stupidest, silliest fucking plan ever to rescue aziraphale from heaven next season and he'll probably fail but he will try again. it's like you guys didn't hear "rescuing me makes him (crowley) so happy". come on

something I've noticed from theory posts going around is that people seem to think that Aziraphale's actions at the end of the season are very out of character. I, to put it lightly, entirely disagree. Aziraphale's character arc in season 2 was beautifully and subtly written and the season HAD to end the way it did to let both Aziraphale and Crowley develop.
The flashbacks this season served narrative purpose beyond "haha let's see what AC got up to all that time ago". The way I interpreted the show was that these were specific memories Aziraphale was recalling throughout the season as a result of all the shit going on with heaven and hell and gabrie- i mean Jim and vinylatte and everything. Aziraphale went through a character arc known as a Fall Arc (coincidence? who knows):
Character believes lie
Character clings to lie
Character rejects truth
Character clings to worse lie (in this case, a more extreme version of the original)
This is shown not only through Aziraphale's present-day actions, but through the flashbacks.
All through the series we see how Aziraphale wants to do good. He likes doing the right thing and he - though he has moments of doubt - ultimately believes in the goodness of heaven and the evilness of hell. He hasn't had that same rejection of it as Crowley has had. That isn't a sign his mind has been tampered with or anything. That's just how he is as a result of all of heaven's manipulation and his genuine desire to do the right thing.
The apparently stark change in attitude after his conversation with the metatron isn't really as stark as people think. Aziraphale loves the idea of what heaven could be. His initial image of heaven has been shattered through millenia of being failed by them (especially recently with Armageddn't), but I think that he genuinely believes that with himself in charge, he could make that image real again. What he thinks he wants is what we saw at the beginning: him and Crowley side by side doing good. His arc in season 3 is going to be him joining Crowley in the recognition that the whole system is fucked up, and finally choosing Humanity (and Crowley of course) over heaven.
ALSO REMEMBER THAT HE ACCEPTED THE OFFER WITH THE IDEA THAT CROWLEY WOULD COME WITH HIM. Heaven are SO manipulative.
The fact that his actions are so in character for him at this point in the story is what makes "fix-it" fics so hard. It doesn't need fixing. This is literally how it has to go before they can converge their paths again and be happy. It's sad, and I love happy endings, but we need this sad ending first to give both Aziraphale and Crowley the opportunity to grow.
I may add to this some other time because this is a rambly mess but I just had to say this. thank you neil gaiman for writing such a well thought out transition season that stands on its own wonderfully. fingers are crossed for season 3 :)
