Aaaand finally getting around to making that post about Ethereal Synchronization.~ 🐌
⚠️ It's long. Of course it is. (I may or may not return to add more or remove things as well, after a while...!) "Keep reading" at your own risk!
Tumblr media
Synchronization
In a more advanced state, Etherealism is not only capable of taking on less rudimentary forms on its own, but able to adopt the form of a host over time - synchronizing with it, so to speak. This entails a few things:
1. If the host form is damaged, the Ethereal form "remembers" how to repair it. 2. In cases where the host's form is absent, the Etherealism still takes on their image.
The way it handles what to synchronize with and repair also proves interesting, in every case entertained! (It is an idea that I have yet to settle on the mechanics of, truthfully! In that respect, there are different versions of synchronization - with slightly different mechanics!)
Synchronized State
Think of it as a formal, automatic "save state" with a side of image burn. Given enough time with consistencies of a given host form, it "burns" that "image" into the Ethereal form and creates a "save state" of that "image." Everything down to a particular nail length, hair length and physical abnormalities, such as scars and amputations.
However, given that Etherealism does intertwine with the host's DNA, it is able to tap into its "scripting." It's how it's able to heal the host form and restore it, whenever it is damaged. Now... where things get a little wacky and the mechanic diverge into two different versions is: whether or not the "heal" script predominantly takes the genetic code or the synchronized state of the host form into account whenever any form of restoration takes place. For the sake of simplicity, we'll simply refer to them as versions A and B.
▫️ Version A: refers to the genetic code to heal. ▪️ Version B: refers to the synchronized state to heal.
I'll also provide an example of how they differ from one another:
▫️ Example - Version A: If one who was missing a limb, long-since-healed, were to take on Etherealism, the Ethereal form would also be missing that limb. Since Etherealism interconnects with the host's DNA, however, if one were to apply a fresh "cut" and trigger the host's healing process, the Ethereal form would refer to the DNA "script" on how to repair it and regrow that limb.
▪️ Example - Version B: Once again, same logic applies. If one who was missing a limb, long-since-healed, were to take on Etherealism, the Ethereal form would also be missing that limb. However, in this scenario, if one were to apply a fresh "cut" and trigger the host's healing process, the Ethereal form would refer to the synchronized state's image on how to repair it and heal only the recent damage; the limb no longer wounded, but still missing.
This has led to interesting cases of hosts being unable to have certain corrective procedures done to their bodies (including implants/transplants, all manner of -ectomies, etc.) If the host takes on Etherealism with these existing conditions in place and doesn't add, remove and/or change them before the Etherealism forms a synchronized state, they will then have to fight the current synchronized state to do so. Yes, it is just as awful as it sounds. Repeated surgeries and procedures, over and over... and over... suppressing either version of the Ethereal healing response accordingly and keeping the body in a "new" state that "outlives" and thus overwrites the previous synchronized state.
And...! Taking both versions into consideration once more... despite all the wonderful features Etherealism has, i.e: it will not fix genetic flaws. I.e: it won't fix your near-sightedness. In fact, it may make correcting it even more difficult. (In which, I do have a confirmed character who wears glasses after having given up on the prospect of correcting his eyes thanks to not wanting to undergo "the horrors" of that process.)
Cycles
The Ethereal lifespan is a curious subject in the sense that, much like has been seen in some forms of cnydarians and crustaceans, Ethereals age forwards and backwards. (If you ever wondered why Ethereal characters have their ages listed as intervals - i.e: 21-24 - that is their aging cycle. They perpetually go back and forth between the numbers listed until the still unknown end of their days.)
In the cases of both version A and B of synchronized states as well, depending on the host form, its age, species, etc. the host's natural cycles are also elongated thanks to synchronization states and the Ethereal lifespan cycle itself. ⚠️ More sensitive material i.e: Menstruation cycles. Which is also just as crumby as it sounds - and taking into consideration the previous information, makes it even more daunting of a prospect for those who may wish to have surgeries to "correct" such things! ⚠️
Something to be noted as well, for Ethereals with host bodies born with Etherealism, who still have periods where their host form ages as it would normally, this is another curious factor to synchronization that is still unknown! There is no determined age marker for when an Ethereal's lifespan cycle may begin and the synchronization states start to come into play. In various humanoid cases: the lifespan cycle can begin anywhere between mid teens to mid forties. This seems to be the most common demographic recorded - and even then, that's still a very wide range!
Certain lifespan cycles themselves are larger than others too, meaning one may be able to see the notable age differences in an Ethereal's lifespan cycle, especially if they're younger or encountering drastic changes within their genetic code at the time their Etherealism officially takes to and synchronizes with their host form.
In that regard, what seems like one established synchronized state for most Ethereals can actually be a series of states - some states may have more subtle or drastic differences. There never is one true synchronized state!

The Fentonworks Mega-Lab.
So! AU where the Fentonworks Labs actually stretch Miles upon Miles below the City of Amity Park.
It started when the Fentons wanted to add a simple addition to the original Lab when they ran out of space to store their more dangerous weapons. They didn't want their (at the time) young children getting their hands on their experimental Weaponry, it could blow up in their faces!
So they built a different Wing of the Lab to hold all those Inventions.
Then they ran out of space and added a few extra Storage Rooms. But then they decided it was a hassle to have to carefully transport their Dangerous Inventions all the way to the Storage Rooms, and built a Lab specifically for Dangerous Experiments near that same Section. Then that Lab was occupied for a while, and Jack wanted to start a different experiment as well, so they built a few more.
In the end they just never stopped building onto their Labs.
There are sections of the Mega-Lab that are entirely walled off because a few of their more unstable Experiments contaminated the area. Walking into them was not recommended, else you could walk out with an extra eye or 5.
In other sections, their Captured Ghosts had taken over a few Labs and created a sort of Mad Max style civilization using their discarded weapons and vehicles.
In another, all Ghosts became Humans and all Humans became Ghosts. That was a weird one, to this day they still didn't understand how they pulled that off.
In another, some type of Eldritch Time Ghost had been born, and now sort of always existed and never existed, and began experimenting with its powers. They nicknamed it Clocky because it liked to carry around a stopwatch.
And so many more. At one point a failed Portal Experiment messed with the internal Space of the entire thing. Now there was literally no way of Mapping it. The Fentons still somehow managed to navigate it perfectly.
When Jazz and Danny grew up, they too learned how to navigate the Labs, which is how Danny managed to show his friends the Portal Experimentation Wing in the first place.
Unfortunately, it wasn't safe for anyone aside from the Fentons to enter the Mega-Labs, so one day when the Fenton Family+friends left town on a Week Long Camping/Road Trip, they put up a few Ghost Shields to keep both Humans out and the Ghosts in.
This drew some unwanted attention after some tourists saw the giant Glowng Green Building in the middle of an Illinois Town, and rightfully called the Justice League.
Now, the Justice League had tried to call the owners of the house, but nobody picked up the phone. (An incident with Jack and a Canoe had knocked most of their phones into the lake. They weren't even at the lake yet.)
When nobody picked up, they decided to investigate personally.
After getting into the House, they quickly found a door labeled "Labs: Do Not Enter (unless it we are late for Dinner)" and went into ignoring all the warnings.
They quickly regretted it.
#Dpxdc#Dp x dc#Dcxdp#Dc x dp#Danny Phantom#Dc#Dcu#The Fentons expanded their Lab a little too much#The Fenton Labs are now a Liminal Space on the level of the Backrooms or SCP Site-13#It is pure undiluted Chaos in those Labs and only the Fentons can actually navigate it successfully#The Eldritch Time Ghost named Clocky is a “young” version of Clockwork#Yes the Fentons accidentally created Clockwork#Does this make Danny and Clockwork brothers?#I say it does#The Justice League expected for this to be a quick and easy investigation#Now they have been fighting through a never ending facility of Horror Monsters and Eldritch Radiation as they try to escape#There are more parts of the lab than what I mentioned#There is a section where Gravity is inverted but only if you lift your Left Foot#There's a room that looks EXACTLY like the Outside until you reach the edge and find a wall of Mirrors#There's a room that just leads to a random Chucky Cheese location in the 80s and the only way to leave it to warn 10000 Tickets#There's a Kingdom of Sentient Robots created by the Fentons that have forgotten their true Origins and worship the Fentons as their Gods#Its a cluster of pure Chaos that somehow Co-exists#The first team sent in by the JL calls back saying that they had lost contact with the outside for hours (it had been 2 minutes outside)#The next team was radio silent for a full day before calling in saying that they had just entered#They had no idea why they kept sending in more teams

Lmao I just had a fantastic vision.
The JL fighting a multiversal threat, and the for keeps disappearing into different universes/worlds. While everyone is coming up with ways to travel to apprehend the foe, Captain Marvel has an idea.
Batman: so far, our current multiversal technology is subpar and unable to go at the rate the villain is going.
Flash: while I can travel through universes, it’s going to take a while to l’acte which one they’re on, and even then, they can leave before I even do anything.
Superman: we need a reliable tracker and transport system. Both being crucial elements we don’t have
Captain Marvel: I have an idea.
Cue to the JL all on a random sidewalk, with the clear instructions to ‘wait until they arrive’ and to ‘not move or interfere in any way shape of form’.
Random Truck: *appears out of nowhere, hitting a random pigeon*
JL: huh
Marvel: well that’s going to be an interesting story. Anyways, there you are! Guys, meet Truck-kun!
JL: excuse me???
Truck-kun:
Marvel: Their a bit shy ☺️
JL: …
Truck-kun: *blushes*
JL: how is that even possible??!??!?
They proceed to go in and go through some weird interdimensional car chase, passing by random worlds, spawning through random streets (for some reason, most of them are in Japan), and more importantly, hitting A LOT of people. Old, young, middle aged, animals, even a vending machine at some point. It’s just a slaughter.
The JL is horrified, and Cap is just sitting in his seat, all chill.
Green Lantern: DID WE JUST HIT SOMEONE
Marvel: yup
Superman: AND YOURE DOING NOTHING TO STOP IT
Marvel: nope
Batman: Captain that kills people
Marvel: it’s not killing, more like transporting them into a different universe that is more suited for them. Had we not hit them, they would have died either ways within the hour. Now they get a second chance of life.
JL: *existential crisis*
Even after the villain is apprehended, they found out they only managed to get this far is because they had a magic car*
Hawkwoman: *stares at the car* how does one come across thee vehicles
Marvel: well I met Truck-kun cause he’s besties with my magic Train. Train-chan told me that Truck-kuns little brother Car-kun got abducted, which is why Truck-kun was so willing to help.
JL:…
Flash: I’m going to go lie down.
Batman: *mentally adding magic vehicle community to his conspiracy board*
Bonus:
Green Arrow: *retelling what happened* -and then some random Truck pulls up
Conner Hawke: lmao you met Truck-kun
Green Arrow:
Conner:
Black Canary: … how do you know that name?
Conner: w h a t
Bonus 2:
Naturally Conner tells Damian, who tells Jon, who tells Kon, who tells the Titans and basically the whole thing spreads.
Red Robin: YOU MET TRUCK KUN! THE GREAT ONE HIMSELF
Spoiler: THE ALL MIGHTY WHEELS OF STEEL
Cyborg: WHY WASNT I INVITED! CAP YOU LBOW HOW MUCH I LIKE MY ISEKAI
Blue Beetle: JUST CAUSE YOU GASLIGHT DOES NOT MEAN YOURE A GIRL BOSS
Superboy: SHARING IS CARING
Arsenal, lying on the road: TAKE ME
Bonus 3:
Static Shock: next you’ll be telling us you know Archie’s magic bus
Marvel: well I’m not sure I know who this ‘Archie’ is, but Train-chan does have a cousin called Bus-san.
Titans: *explode*
